Quando as crianças crescem “sozinhas”, sem o amor e o apoio de um dos pais ou de outro prestador de cuidados estável, elas enfrentam um risco maior de discriminação, negligência, abuso e abandono. As crianças são mais propensas a serem privadas de oportunidades para aprender, amadurecer e desenvolver aptidões para a vida, e assim acham mais difícil tornar-se membros contribuintes da sociedade.
Mas podemos mudar esta situação. O elemento chave reside nos cuidados de qualidade, e o investimento em cuidados tem efeito multiplicador, pois as crianças recebem cuidados enriquecedores, florescem e materializam o seu potencial de geração em geração.
