Welcome to Year 6

Staff in Year 6

– Mr Owen – Year 6 Eagles teacher and Upper Key Stage 2 Leader

Things to remember

–Small bag / small rucksack to carry outdoor shoes

–Reading book from school

–PE – Eagles and Hawks - Monday

–Kit for PE – team t-shirt and shorts/ jogging bottoms , hoodie/school jumper, trainers (Wear to school)

–A pair of wellies or outdoor shoes to be kept in our shoes boxes near the lockers.

Please ensure these are brought in each day as children must change into them at break and lunch – this includes a change of shoes on PE days

–Please ensure correct uniform is worn

–Names on clothes please

Snack

– Water bottle (only water) every day please

– Healthy snack from home OR money for snack for morning break

Homework

– Reading book to be read at home each week. Children can complete accelerated reader quizzes at home or in school before they change their book – we would like children to complete at least 2 accelerated reader quizzes per half term

– CGP books for comprehension skills and Maths. These will be given out week beginning 15th September. Children must look after these books. They will be given pages to complete each week. Parents are allowed to discuss the activity with your child and mark questions together. Homework will also be set on Purple Mash every other week. An email will go to parents each week to explain the homework set.

– Children also have a log in for TT Rockstars

– Homework will be set on a Friday to be completed by the following Thursday. Please make sure CGP books are handed into your class teacher by Thursday each week.

– Whole Class Reading books read throughout the year

– Literacy Counts followed, with a focus on high quality texts for

Writing stimulus e.g. When We Walked On The Moon

Maths

– Daily Flashback 4 questions and arithmetic questions

– Power Maths for build reasoning skills

• Final year before high school – want children to be fully prepared!

• Opportunities to take on extra responsibilities e.g. Reception buddies

Curriculum priorities

• Improve speed and fluency in arithmetic – booster sessions in the Autumn term will focus on arithmetic

• Booster sessions start on Tuesday 16th September and will be led by Mr Owen (Tuesdays) and Miss Hough (Thursdays)

• Written comprehension – point, evidence and explanation in texts

• Developing vocabulary across all subjects

• Developing sentence structures and use of more advanced punctuation across all subjects
