It has been lovely to see our new values in action around school. Staff are praising children for demonstrating the values in their lessons, while playing outside, or as they move around school. Children are becoming familiar with and remembering all five values:

• Independence

• Joy

• Growth

• Connection

• Acceptance

Being on the gate this week, I’ve enjoyed hearing children talk about our independent cat on their way to school. The list of names for our independent cat is growing! His real name is Paddy, but we initially named him Cuthbert when he first started visiting, as we didn’t know his real name. This week, he has also been called Ginger and Tabby!

You may also notice that children are now bringing home a postcard on Fridays. These postcards are linked to our five values, and staff choose a child from each class who has really demonstrated one of these values. It has been lovely reading these out and celebrating them in Friday Praise Assembly. These examples are wonderful for other children and really help bring our school values to life.

Have a lovely weekend – Mrs Payne!

Thursday 2nd October was National Poetry Day and this year’s theme was ‘Play’.

National Poetry Day is an annual, national celebration that encourages everyone to create, experience and share poetry with family and friends. To mark this special day, like last year, children at Churchtown Primary School will take part in a poetry competition. Children should write their poem in their homework books (or sheets provided) based around this year’s theme and winners will be selected from each year group. The poems can be in any form, from a haiku to an acrostic poem, we just want pupils to get creative!

THERE IS SOMETHING GOOD ABOUT SOUTHPORT

Prior to the summer holidays, Adventure Coast invited local school children and college students to capture what they love most about our town through art. The response to this was incredible and all the artwork submitted has been proudly displayed outside the park entrance in a striking ‘outdoor gallery’ of largescale banners, complete with mock frames and plaques.

There was a shortlist of 10 standout pieces and one of these was from Churchtown Primary School - Ellie S who is in Y6 Sycamore.

Ellie was short listed from hundreds of entries and Adventure Coast welcomed former world boxing champion Tony Bellew to say a few words when the shortlisting was announced and help celebrate the amazing talent in our community.

CHRISTMAS DESIGNS 2025

It’s that time of year when the children will be creating their special Christmas designs in school to be transferred onto a range of professionally printed Christmas cards, A3 poster calendars, tea towels, mugs, gift labels, tote bags and much more.

Your child will be sent home with their completed design on Friday 10th October 2025.

Please complete the form on the reverse of your child’s artwork and return it to school by Friday 17th October – you will not need to place an order at this stage. The P.T.A. will then forward the children’s designs to Xmas4schools. Once they have received your form, they will send you a text and an email containing your order link, which you can follow to your child’s ordering portal. From here, you can place your order and make payment.

Well done to you all for putting yourselves forward!

We would like to say a heartfelt goodbye and thank you to Miss Gannon, who has been an invaluable member of our team since 1999. Her passion and expertise in Early Years education have touched the lives of countless children. She has

inspired a love of learning through reading, outdoor play, Christmas nativities and creative activities within the curriculum. Beyond her work with the children, she has built amazing relationships with parents, making a lasting impact on our school community. We will miss her greatly and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her life.

Pokémon Cards in School

We kindly ask that children do not bring Pokémon cards into school.

While we understand how popular they are, we’ve found that cards can easily become misplaced or damaged, which can lead to children becoming upset. If any cards are brought in, they will be kept safe by a member of staff and returned at the end of the school day to be taken home. Thank you for your understanding and support.
