(회장 곽인영)는 2025년 5월 3일 (토) 오후 1시(미 동부시간) 맨해 튼에 있는 코리아 소사이어티에서 제15회 영어웅변대회를 화상 및 대면 하이브리드(hybrid)로 개최 했다. 올해 주제는‘내가 경험한
한국문화(Korean Culture: My Experience)’였다.
참가 대상은 미 전역에 거주하 는 9학년부터 12학년의 한국계, 미 국인 또는 다민족 고등학생으로 신분에 관계없이 누구나 참여할 수 있었다. 참가희망자는‘내가 경 험한 한국문화’를 주제로 영어 글 자수 1,400자 내, 웅변길이는 4-6 분의 원고를 작성하여 경운장학회 로 보내면 경운장학회는 원고를 심사하여 결선 진출자를 선정하 고, 결선 진출자들은 장학회가 진 행하는 스피치 워크샵을 통해 스 피치 코칭을 받은 후, 5월 3일 본선 에서 경합했다. 이번 대회에는 미 전역에서 9학년부터 12학년의 한 국계와 비한국계 고등학생 70여 명이 원고를 제출, 13명이 결선에 진출했다. 경운장학회 관계자들은 “대회를 거듭할수룩 한국에 대해 올바를 인식을 갖게하는 등 교육 적 효과가 크다. 우리 학생들이 학 교에서 배우지 못하는 한국의 역 사, 문화, 상황, 인물, 디아스포라 (전 세계에 진출해 살고 있는 한인 들)을 스스로 공부하는 과정에서

A minhwa is a complex folk painting from Korea that combines symbolic motifs, vivid colors, and scenes from everyday life. With a tiger crouching beneath a pine tree, peonies blooming in deep red, and swirling white clouds strewn across the sky, the details might initially appear a little disorganized. However, when you take a step back, you can see how each component is arranged to create a special piece. My life as a Korean-American, a fusion of tradition and modernity, combining Korean and American heritage, would be the subject of a minhwa if I were to illustrate one. Every component of the painting stands for a value that influences who I am and is evident in my day-to-day activities.
A strong base, such as a sturdy boulder or a strong tree, is always present at the base of many minhwas. My family is the strong base in my own minhwa. The importance of family is paramount in Korean culture. From working to making sure our table was always abundant with homecooked meals, such as doenjang-guk and different banchan such as kimchi, namul, and kongjaban, I witnessed my parents make many sacrifices as I was growing up. Family gettogethers on Chuseok and Seollal were an opportunity to honor our ancestors and maintain ties to our heritage with charye being held twice a year on Seollal and Chuseok. On this day there are also multiple other traditional elements of celebrations including the respectful greeting of elders, the preparation and eating of special foods such as dduk.
However in American culture, children are frequently urged to “find their own path” and pursue more personal freedom. Although independence is a valuable quality, I came to the realization that, in my painting, family is more than just a component; it is the foundation upon which most of my life was constructed. This value, in my opinion, transcends just tradition, it is the way of life that gives my decisions purpose and the sense of obligation toward all those who have supported me throughout my life.
Education, a value that is deeply ingrained in Korean culture, is another significant layer in my minhwa. In Korea, where education was highly valued, my parents would frequently tell me about their childhood. For them and many other kids growing up in Korea, education was important

and stressful, but key for a successful future. According to InterNations, the Korean school system is very testfocused and goaloriented, urging students to concentrate on their results. The high level of academic competitiveness in South Korea begins in middle school and becomes especially intense in high school. They brought that belief with them when they immigrated to the United States, and it influenced my perspective on education.
To be honest, there were moments when the pressure was a lot. Sometimes I felt like I was in a different world from my American friends, who seemed to approach school in a more relaxed manner. But as time went on, I understood that my parents weren’t merely encouraging me to succeed for the sake of doing so. They wanted me to realize that education is a privilege that can lead to opportunities they were never able to access.
I now have a newfound appreciation for learning as a result of balancing both viewpoints. My education has been a combination of structure and exploration, much like a minhwa, where tradition and creativity combine to create something meaningful. Every experience, obstacle, and accomplishment broadens my own understanding of who I am.
A minhwa contains meaning in the symbols and stories concealed in every detail, making it more than just its visual components. In my life, language is that untold tale. Speaking Korean at home came naturally to me as a child, but it felt like a barrier outside. I recall finding it difficult to explain why my parents placed such a strong emphasis on certain traditions or hesitating when friends inquired about the strange foods in my lunchbox. I even wished I didn’t have to learn two languages at times.
However, as I got older, I understood that language serves as a bridge across cultures and is more than just a tool for communication.

Speaking Korean allowed me to listen to my grandparents’ stories, to understand the humor in a Korean drama without subtitles, and
appreciate the culture itself a bit better. What once felt like an inconvenience became one of my greatest strengths, a stroke of ink that ties together the different elements in the piece. So why do these traditions and values continue to thrive in modern Korean culture? I believe it’s because they provide a strong sense of identity and continuity in a rapidly changing world. Korea has experienced massive transformations, from its rapid industrialization to its emergence as a global cultural powerhouse through K-pop, technology, and media such as K-dramas and despite these massive changes, core values like family, education, and tradition remain deeply rooted.
Each layer in my minhwa may seem distinct but together, they create a unified, meaningful image of what Korean culture is and in many ways, this reflects the very nature of minhwa itself. Often called “the painting of the people” minhwa is about representing Korean traditions, values, and everyday life in a way that resonated with the common people.
As a Korean-American, I’ve discovered that my identity is a painting in which both traditions coexist peacefully rather than a conflict between two cultures. Therefore, if my life were a minhwa, it would not be a single narrative but rather a dynamic work of art that is always changing, with every new experience contributing nuance and color. My minhwa is far from finished, but I know that with every past and new experience I am creating something meaningful that reflects my own Korean cultural experience with each layer and brushstroke. 사람들이 일생동안 저축할 수 없
는 액수의 현금을 즉각 창출한다.
이처럼 생명보험은 가장 필요 한 바로 그때 현금을 즉시 창출하
므로, 다른 어떤 형태의 자산보다 도 융통성(Liquidity)이 큰 자산 이다. 또한 대부분의 경우에 보험
료는 소득세를 내고 남은 돈
(AfterTaxDollar=Net Income=TakeHomePay)으로 지불하기 때문에 그로 인한 열매 라고 볼 수 있는 생명 보험금 (LifeInsuranceProceeds)은 소
득세의 대상이 되지 아니한다. 또한 생명보험은 자산으로서 융통성과 영구적 생명보험의 저 축성은 우리들의 개인적 (PersonalUse) 또는 사업상 (BusinessUse) 여러 가지 재정 적 목적이나 목표의 달성을 보장 하거나 보완하는 수단으로 활용 될 수 있다.
◆ 개인적 용도와 사업상 용도 △ 개인적 용도로, 충분한 액 수의 생명보험은 자녀들을 양육 하는 기간에는 (1)가족의 생계비 (FamilyIncome)를 보장하는 수 단으로, (2)자녀들의 고등교육비 (AccumulationofEducational Fund)를 보장하는 수단으로, (3) 주택 모기지(HomeMortgage) 를 갚아주는 수단으로(Mortgage Payoff), (4)자선 헌금으로 (CharitableBequest), 특히 저축 성 생명보험은 거기에 축적되는
한인들을 위해 보험 서비스를 제공하고 있는‘희망보험’은 NY, NJ, CT.의 △개인·사업체 보험상담 ·설계 △기존계약서검토·신규가입 △생명·건강·메디케어 상담 등을 주업무로 하는 종합 보험회사 이다.

않은(ClosedCorporation) 규모 가 작은, 즉 몇 명 안 되는 가족이 나 친지들이 주식의 대부분을 소 유하는 형태의 작은 법인인 경우 에 주주들의 생명보험이 필요하 다. 주주들 가운데 어느 주주가 사망하면, 그 주주의 지분(Stock) 에 대한 상속문제가 회사와 그 유 가족 사이에 분쟁의 씨앗이 될 수 가 있기 때문이다. ◆ StockRedemption Agreement 이러한 분쟁의 씨앗을 없애기 위해서, 어느 주주가 사망하더라 도 그 주주는 자기의 지분을 미리 정한 가격에 그 회사에 판다는 약 속(StockRedemption Agreement)이 필요하게 된다. 어 느 주주가 사망했을 때 그 주주의 지분에 대한 보상금을 그 유가족 에게 즉시 물어줄 수 있는 수단은 역시 현금이 필요한 바로 그때 쓸 수 있는 현금을 즉각 창출하는 생 명보험 밖에 없다. 이 주식판매 협약의 작성은 변 호사의 몫이다. 이 협약에 따라 각 주주는 자기의 지분만큼 보험 인을 통해 생명보험을 든다. 여기서 보험 가입자(Insured) 는 각 주주이며, 수혜자 (Beneficiary)와
