As 85-87% of power system faults are occurring in transmission lines, it is a required to detect and locate the faults in the power system as early as possible. This paper describes an automatic tripping mechanism for the three phase supply system. In the event of temporary fault, the project output resets automatically after a brief interruption, while it remain in tripped condition in case of permanent fault. The faults that are LG, LL and 3L might be lead to damage to the power system equipment and may be affect the power system. This project is designed to understand about the basic operation of the relay and what are all the advanced techniques which are been used by the people to make the safety operation of the electrical appliance and protection.
