Let’s make this holiday season brighter for every child in our community!

CHRISTMAS WISHES

Looking to spread some holiday cheer? Many students and families in our community could use a little extra support this season. These families fall just above the line for assistance from local organizations and live paycheck to paycheck.

For the past 11 years, Bill and Nykky Harper, Holston Hills residents, have organized a

child should experience the joy of having a bike at Christmas For years, he would donate a bike to the Mission of Hope in your name as his gift to you Over the past 12 years, his family and friends have kept his dream alive Last year, 668 bikes with helmets were donated

Join us for our annual Bucky’s Bikes bike drive for the Mission of Hope Holston Hills CC will be accepting new bicycles, bike helmets, and monetary donations to purchase bicycles and helmets Monetary donations can be made via check or on your member account.

Christmas Drive to help these families. Working closely with social workers from several Knox County schools, they identify students in need. Each student shares a list of Christmas wishes, plus requests for a new coat and a new pair of shoes

Thanks to generous Santa helpers, over 300 students received gifts last year! This year, even more students and schools have been added You can help in so many ways by sponsoring a student or a family, making a monetary donation of any amount, or letting someone do the shopping for you (Dara Jenkins loves to shop! ) To get involved, contact Nykky Harper at NykkyHarper@gmail.com or text her at 865-789-1905, or reach out to Dara at DJenkins@holstonhills.com.

Creatine Explained: The scoop that delivers

Creatine? What Is It and What’s All the Hype About?

Creatine is a naturally occurring compound made in the body from amino acids and stored mostly in muscle tissue. It helps regenerate ATP (Adenosine triphosphate), the main energy currency of cells. It is also found in foods such as red meat and fish and can be supplemented, typically as creatine monohydrate

How Creatine Works?

Replenishes ATP for rapid energy use

Enhances training capacity and muscle recovery

Stimulates muscle growth pathways (mTOR/IGF-1) key players in how your body builds and maintains muscle May support brain energy metabolism and reduce oxidative stress

Key Benefits

Improved muscle strength and mass: Creatine helps your body regenerate ATP faster, therefore enhancing gains in muscle strength and lean body mass

Supports healthy aging and muscle preservation: Helps counteract sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss) Has been found to improve function in older adults when combined with resistance training. Cognitive health: The brain uses creatine for energy as well. Studies have shown modest improvements in memory, attention, and processing speed, particularly in older adults

Improves exercise recovery: Helps replenish energy stores after workouts Reduces muscle damage and inflammation and may lower levels of muscle soreness over time

Dosage and things to consider

General recommendation: 5 Grams per day

Dosage may vary based on if you are loading, maintaining, or only taking creatine on training days

Be sure to consume an adequate amount of water throughout the day when taking creatine

Make sure you know what to mix your creatine with - using only water may not dissolve the powder completely, which may cause throat irritation.

Creatine has many benefits and can be used to enhance performance or daily function. As always, please consult with your doctor or dietician if you have any preexisting conditions or medications you are taking before adding anything to your regimen.
