Earth is the planet we live on. It is one of the eight planets in the solar system. On Earth there is land, mountains, forests and cities. But most of Earth is water: the oceans cover two thirds of the Earth. This is why the Earth is blue when people take photographs from space. In fact, water supports plant and animal life on Earth. Also, life can exist on Earth because the sun gives sunlight and heat. Plants need sunlight to grow. Animals, including humans, need plants to eat and the oxygen they produce to breathe. Without heat from the sun, Earth can freeze. There will be no winds, ocean waves, or clouds to transport water. Only on Earth there are important natural resources for people to survive. Planet Earth is unique and it’s our home, so we need to take good care of it.
