A tradicional Gala que anualmente reúne os padrinhos, madrinhas, amigos e parceiros SOS foi realizada no dia 1 de junho, data que se celebra o dia das crianças, com o objetivo de agradecer a todos aqueles que de várias formas vêm apoiando a organização no exercício da sua nobre missão. A Assembleia Nacional revelou-se pequena para acolher a maior família de Cabo Verde, e os que lá estiveram, dizem-se surpreendidos pela organização, beleza e excelência em cada uma das apresentações. As surpresas começaram com a atuação da Escola de Dança Nicole
que a todos encantou pela exuberância. O encanto no rosto dos presentes fi cou ainda mais expressivo pelo ritmo, a sincronia e a beleza da Banda das Forças Armadas. O grupo SOS Stars, composto por crianças e colaboradores SOS, também fez uma brilhante apresentação. Os nossos ilustres convidados, principalmente as crianças, ainda foram presenteados com o show de ilusionismo do Mágico Ady, a contagiante energia do grupo Azagua e a alegria da Jenifer Solidade que fechou o show com chave de ouro.
SOS family meets at the 15th edition of the Sponsor’s Gala
The traditional Gala that annually brings together godfathers, godmothers, friends and SOS partners was held on June 1st, the date that celebrates children’s day, with the aim of thanking all those who in various ways have been supporting the organization in the exercise of its noble mission. The National Assembly proved to be small to accommodate the largest family in Cabo Verde, and those who were there said they were surprised by the organization, beauty and excellence in each of the presentations. The surprises started with the performance of the Nicole Dance School, which charmed everyone by the exuberance. The charm on the faces of those present was even more expressive by the rhythm, the synchrony and the beauty of the Band of the Armed Forces. The group SOS Stars, made up of children and SOS employees, also made a brilliant presentation. Our distinguished guests, especially children, were also presented with the conjuring show Magic Ady, the contagious energy of group Azagua and the joy of Jenifer Solidade that closed the show with a fl ourish.

A ilha de São Vicente foi palco de mais uma edição da Gala que tem como objetivo agradecer aos Padrinhos e parceiros da SOS Cabo Verde em Mindelo, bem como lhes prestar contas do trabalho da nossa organização no último ano. A edição deste ano, teve como destaque uma homenagem justa e merecida a Dra. Isaura Gomes, uma fi gura carismática do Mindelo, pelo seu nobre contributo na implementação do nosso programa na ilha de Monte Cara. Segundo o Diretor Nacional da Aldeias SOS, Dionísio Pereira, a nossa organização está em grande naquela ilha, isso graças à bondade de amigos e parceiros. “Nossa meta para os próximos tempos é acabar com o fenómeno de crianças em situação de rua em São Vicente. Com a ajuda de todos alcançaremos esta meta. Para a nossa homenageada Zau, nossa merecida vênia. Obrigado Zau, obrigado gente do Mindelo que sempre acarinharam os nossos projetos”, enalteceu o diretor na sua página pessoal do facebook. À semelhança do que aconteceu na cidade da Praia, no dia 1 de junho, a Gala de São Vicente que decorreu no âmbito da celebração dos 35 anos da SOS Cabo Verde e dos 10 do Centro Social SOS Mindelo, surpreendeu a todos que estiveram presentes. A família SOS Mindelo, foi acolhida no Centro Cultural de Mindelo, e especialmente brindada com atuações de Constantino Cardoso e Airline, Grupos Camisado e Colá Sanjon, assim como António Tavares, Coral Banda CCM e a dupla Mara Alves e Thaísa Rodrigues.
The island of São Vicente was the stage of another edition of Gala that aims to thank the Sponsors and partners of SOS Cabo Verde in Mindelo, as well as providing them with our organization’s work accounts last year. This year, the edition was to highlight a fair and deserved tribute to Dra. Isaura Gomes, a charismatic fi gure of Mindelo, for their noble contribution in the implementation of our program on the island of Monte Cara. According to the National Director of SOS Villages, Dionisio Pereira, our organization is in great on that island, thanks to the kindness of friends and partners. Our goal for the coming period is to end the phenomenon of children living on the street in São Vicente. With everyone’s help we will achieve. For our honored Zau, our well-deserved bow. Thank you Zau, thank you people from Mindelo who always cherished our projects”, praised the director on his personal facebook page. Similar to what happened in Praia, on 1st of June, the Gala São Vicente, which was held during the celebration of the 35th anniversary of SOS Cabo Verde and 10 of SOS Social Center-Mindelo, surprised everyone who was present. SOS Mindelo family, was welcomed at the Cultural Center of Mindelo, especially toasted with performances by Constantino Cardoso and Airline, Groups Camisado, Colá Sanjon, António Tavares, Coral Banda CCM and the double Mara Alves and Thaísa Rodrigues.

Depoimento da Primeira-dama e Madrinha de Honra SOS Dra. Lígia Fonseca
Um dos primeiros convites, melhor dizendo, desafi os, que me foram feitos após a tomada de posse do meu marido como Presidente da República de Cabo Verde, foi o de ser Madrinha de Honra das Aldeias SOS. Estávamos em Abril de 2012, e este amável convite veio em forma de projecto. Um projecto elaborado com todas as rubricas que se espera encontrar num documento desta natureza, designadamente com a defi nição do objectivo geral e das actividades que se esperava fossem realizadas. Lê-se no documento, que o projecto « visa sobretudo ter a Primeira Dama de Cabo- -Verde como parceira da Aldeias Infantis SOS Cabo Verde na questão da defesa de causas sociais com a fi nalidade de bem estar colectivo». Naturalmente que aceitei o convite, mais a mais, quando estava tudo tão bem defi nido sobre qual a actuação que a organização esperava da minha parte. Mas aceitei, ainda com mais agrado, porque percebi que as Aldeias SOS tinham estado atentas ao que eu
vinha dizendo sobre o papel que eu queria desempenhar enquanto cônjuge do Presidente da República. Não tendo o cônjuge do Presidente da República nenhum estatuto legalmente defi nido em Cabo Verde, e uma vez que eu decidira que continuaria a exercer a minha profi ssão a tempo inteiro, sempre pensei que a melhor utilização que podia fazer do facto de ser esposa do Presidente da República, nestas circunstâncias, era a de ser a promotora das organizações da sociedade civil que tanto estavam a fazer pelo país. Iria usar a minha imagem, voz, e toda a visibilidade que uma Primeira Dama tem, para promover o trabalho dessas ONGs e, assim, ser uma parceira activa na busca dos meios que as mesmas necessitam para desempenhar as missões assumidas. E as Aldeias SOS , ao me convidarem para ser sua Madrinha de Honra, num projecto inicialmente defi nido para cinco anos , mas que renovaram por mais cinco, o que me propunham era precisamente isso: que fosse sua parceira na defesa e promoção activa da ideia de que cada criança pertence a uma família e deve crescer com amor, respeito e segurança, e que transmitisse por todo o lado que a missão da Aldeias SOS de dar uma família às crianças em difi culdades ajudando-as a construir o seu próprio futuro e a participar no desenvolvimento das suas comunidades. Esta forma organizada, objectiva e perspicaz como fui convidada pela Aldeias SOS é uma marca da organização. Fui confi rmando isso ao longo destes anos de trabalho conjunto. Tudo, desde a mais pequena actividade, até aos eventos internacionais, tudo é muito bem pensado e organizado com cuidado e todo o profi ssionalismo, sempre tendo em mente a visão da organização e sentindo-se em cada pessoa envolvida o amor que dedica à causa. Consciente de que para garantir que cada criança do nosso país vive numa família de amor e possa crescer e desenvolver-se integralmente, impõe trabalhar afi ncadamente com as comunidades e lutar pela adopção de políticas públicas que protejam as famílias, por um lado, mas que as responsabilizem pelo cuidado com as crianças ao seu cargo, por outro, este tem sido, também ,um plano de acção permanente da Aldeias SOS, promovendo parcerias com as entidades públicas e trabalhando a sociedade , designadamente contra situações preocupantes como a gravidez precoce, abandono escolar, falta de cuidados de protecção das crianças. O reforço familiar é, igualmente, um dos programas de grande intervenção da organização. Todo o trabalho que é desenvolvido pelas Aldeias SOS e os resultados bons obtidos são visíveis nas muitas condecorações e homenagens que recebe de entidades públicas e de outras organizações. Mas nada melhor para comprovar o sucesso da organização do que falar com tantas e tantas pessoas, jovens e adultas, que dizem com orgulho: eu cresci ou eu estive nas aldeias SOS. É ver o sorriso e a tranquilidade de cada menino e menina que vive numa família SOS, é ouvir a alegria das crianças e dos padrinhos e madrinhas quando se juntam para a tradicional gala anual dos padrinhos SOS. É saber que as Aldeias SOS são escutadas pelas autoridades sempre que o tema envolve direitos e proteção das crianças. Por tudo isto, e por tudo o que tenho apreendido ao longo destes oito anos de trabalho em conjunto, só posso dizer: OBRIGADA Aldeias SOS!

Testimony of the First Lady and SOS Sponsor of Honour
One of the fi rst invitations, or challenges, that were made to me after my husband took offi ce as President of Republic of Cabo Verde, was to be the Sponsor of Honour of the SOS Villages. We were in April 2012, and this kind invitation came in draft form. A draft drawn up with all the items that one expects to be found in a document of this nature, namely with the defi nition of the overall objective and the activities that were expected to be carried out. It can be read in the document that the draft “aims mainly to have the First Lady of Cabo Verde as a partner of SOS Children’s Villages Cabo Verde on the question of defence of social causes with the purpose of collective well-being.” Of course, I accepted the invitation, moreover, when everything was so well defi ned on which the action that the organization expected of me. But I accepted it, with even more pleasure, because I realized that the SOS Villages had been aware of what I had been saying about the role I wanted to play as the spouse of the President of the Republic. As the spouse of the President of the Republic had no legally defi ned status in Cabo Verde, and since I had decided that I would continue to practice my profession full time, I always thought that the best use I could make of being the wife of the President of the Republic Republic, in these circumstances, was to be the promoter of civil society organizations that were doing so much for the country. I would use my image, voice, and all the visibility that a First Lady has, to promote the work of these NGOs and, thus, be an active partner in the search for the means that they need to carry out the assumed missions. And the SOS Villages, when they invited me to be its Godmother of Honor, in a project initially set to fi ve years, but renewed for another fi ve, what they proposed to me was precisely that: to be their partner in the defence and active promotion of the idea that each child belongs to a family and must grow up with love, respect, security, and to transmit everywhere that the mission of SOS Villages to give a family to children in diffi culties helping them to build their own future and to participate in the development of their communities. This organized, objective and insightful way as I was invited by SOS Children`s Villages is a hallmark of the organization. I was confi rming that over the years of working together. Everything from the smallest activity up to international events, everything is well thought out and organized carefully and all the professionalism, always keeping in mind the organization’s vision and feeling in each person involved the love dedicated to the cause. Aware that in order to ensure that each child in our country lives in a loving family and can fully grow and develop, it is necessary to work hard with the communities and struggle for the adoption of public policies that protect families, on the one hand, but that take responsibility for the care of children in their side, on the other hand,
this has been also a permanent action plan of SOS Villages, promoting partnerships with public entities and working with society, namely against worrying situations such as: early pregnancy, school dropout, lack of protective care for children. Family support is also one of the organization’s major intervention programs. All work is carried out by SOS Children’s Villages and the good results are visible in the many awards and honors that it receives from public entities and other organizations. But nothing better to prove the organization’s success than talking to so many people, youth and old, who proudly say: I grew up or I was in the SOS villages. It is seeing the smile and peace of every boy and girl who lives in an SOS family, it is listening to the joy of children and godparents when they get together for the traditional annual gala of SOS godparents. It is knowing that the SOS Villages are heard by the authorities whenever the topic involves children’s rights and protection. For all this, and for all that I have learned over these eight years of working together, I can only say: THANK YOU SOS Villages!
