Rachel Gardner "Whispers of the Wild: Shadow and Light"
Foltz Fine Art is pleased to present Street Seen Vol. II, featuring “Whispers of the Wild: Shadows and Light”, a window installation by Rachel Gardner.
Street Seen is a rotating installation series that transforms the gallery’s Westheimer-facing windows across from St.Annes Catherdral into a platform for public art. Featuring contemporary artists, the series invites passersby to engage with new work from the sidewalk — day or night.
Designed to blur the line between gallery space and the urban streetscape, Street Seen brings art into everyday life and offers a fresh, accessible way to experience creative expression.
“This installation is inspired by winters spent in Utah, meditating and wandering through snowy forests filled with stillness and quiet beauty.
The large papier-mâché owls, rabbits, and a fox emerge as calm presences within the winter landscape, reflecting a sense of contemplation, resilience, and connection.
Through these forms, I invite viewers to slow down and enter a hushed, reflective space shaped by memory, nature, and the quiet magic of winter”

Forthepasttenyears,Rachelhasdevotedherarttotheexplorationofboththeconnectionanddisconnectionto natureinourmodernworld.Shealsofocusesheavilyonthecyclesoflifethroughinstallationsandscenesone maywitnessinournaturalworld.Growingupinsuburbia,atayoungage,Rachelwitnessedthedepletionofour naturalworldfor“progress"totakeplace.Thoughherprimarymediumispaperinbothtwoandthree dimensions,sheoftencombinesmanymaterialsononesurface.Herworkisincludedinbothpublicandprivate collections.
RachelisanassistantprofessorofsculptureatHoustonBaptistUniversitywheresheworkswithboth undergraduateandgraduatestudents.HerhomeandstudioarelocatedintheHoustonHeightswhereshelives withherhusband,daughter,andson.
