QUANTITATIVE ECONOMICS

Do you like working with numbers and data to solve problems?

Does simplifying complicated information intrigue you?

Do you want to use numbers to influence real change in the world?

This program is for students who want to dive deeper into using math, statistics, and data to examine critical economics topics and solve challenges that are important to diverse groups of people. Students learn to use applied statistical analysis to forecast trends and gain insight into the impacts of market behavior and policies, and help organizations translate data into actionable strategies that will help achieve their goals. In addition, this program provides a strong foundation for students who are interested in pursuing graduate studies including an MBA or PhD.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

• Evaluate economic data and apply it to real-world issues

• Use programming and coding skills to manage, visualize, and analyze large data sets

• Analyze market behavior and policy impact

• Inform business and policy strategies

• Translate and communicate technical information to broader audiences

CAREER PATHS TO EXPLORE

DATA ANALYST

Conduct research and evaluate industry data to help your company or organization solve a business challenge

IMPACT EVALUATOR

Anaylze interventions and determine the effects or changes they cause – positive or negative, intended or unintended, direct or indirect

POLICY ANALYST

Work in a nonprofit or government organization to evaluate public policies and their impact on communities and social groups

MARKET RESEARCH ANALYST

Study consumer preferences, business conditions, and other factors to help companies assess the potential sales of a product or service

Minnesota Center for Diversity in Economics

The Minnesota Center for Diversity in Economics (MCDE) was founded by a St. Kate’s professor to ensure that people of all backgrounds lead and influence economic research and decision-making. Here you’ll find many ways to engage in professional workshops, research important topics, network, and build relationships with mentors – adding big value to your educational journey.

Data Fest

Every year, the Economics Department hosts “Data Fest” events in the spring where students work to analyze data for a nonprofit community partner.

Economics Club

The Economics Club provides an opportunity to connect and learn with your peers. Participate in exciting activities and celebrate the talent and accomplishments of the Economics Department as a whole.

Employment for economists is expected to grow 6% between 2023 and 2033.
