Do you want to know more about how you can make a real difference to environmental and sustainability efforts?

The growing urgency of climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainability concerns has increased the demand for professionals with expertise in environmental policy, science, and advocacy. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts these careers will grow significantly in the coming years. This degree will prepare you to work in a wide variety of areas including government, nonprofit organizations, and corporate sustainability, or to enroll in a graduate program of your choosing.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

• Interpret the complex relationship between humans and the environment

• Assess how research and data can help us understand and address environmental and sustainability challenges

• Create solutions to environmental and sustainability problems in collaboration with the community

• Advocate and integrate these principles into organizational strategies for a more sustainable future

Help businesses integrate sustainability into their operations

EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY

Work with organizations to educate and raise awareness about environmental and sustainability issues

LANDSCAPE, CITY, AND URBAN PLANNING

Work with government agencies, as a consultant or with other community organizations to design and develop sustainable communities

SUSTAINABILITY CONSULTANT

Advise businesses and organizations on how to improve their sustainability practices

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

Work in government to advance legislation and policies related to sustainability, or with companies on planning and regulation

LIBERAL ARTS: This degree pulls from a variety of programs across the School of Humanities, Arts, and Sciences, giving you a well-rounded education and perspective.

FOUNDATION: St. Kate’s is grounded in Catholic social teaching and has a legacy of producing graduates who are committed to social justice, leadership, and positive change.

Outdoor Active Katies for Sustainability Club (OAKS)

• Analyzing Social Issues with Data

• Leading within a Diverse World

• Introduction to Ecology

• Global Sourcing

Join this club with like-minded students who are interested in increasing sustainability literacy and action on campus through an appreciation for the natural world and engagement in outdoor activities. This club has two focuses: finding ways to go outside and be active, and examining sustainability and environmental issues. There are bi-weekly meetings and various events and volunteer opportunities. Members can participate as little or as much as they like!

Bio Club

Enrich your academic journey with dedicated career readiness support and valuable insights from guest speakers. We also host annual events and ongoing activities, such as our signature plant and honey sale, where you can actively contribute to sales and harvesting, and volunteer opportunities such as terrarium building or nature walks.

Jobs for environmental scientists and specialists are expected to grow 7% between 2023-2033.
