TA Skills Enhancement Course Overview: To improve the impact of Teaching Assistants, levels 1-3 on raising pupil attainment. The course considers the role and responsibilities of a professional Teaching Assistant and the skills needed to support pupil progress within the classroom. The sessions will focus on skill development combining practice and application of techniques with learning walks and peer observations to recognise good practice.

What will be covered? Session 1 -

Knowledge enhancement - Understanding the role of a Teaching Assistant. Outlining the role and expectations of a Teaching Assistant, levels 1-3 plus lesson planning and differentiation.

Session 2 -

Skills enhancement A. Developing techniques to improve pupil attainment and behaviour management strategies. Deepening thinking through and appreciation of learning styles and questioning techniques.

Session 3 -

Skills enhancement B. Developing a greater understanding of how differentiation, synthesis analysis and evaluation can improve pupil learning. This session also covers the SEND code of practice, specific learning difficulties, the process of appraisal for TAs and a brief understanding of safeguarding.

How long is this course? Each session is 2 hours from 1:30pm - 3:30pm
