Maths Enhancement Course What is the MEC?

Who is the MEC for?

In response to the present national focus on improving attainment in Mathematics, the Fylde Coast Teaching School Alliance has designed a short course to support secondary school Mathematics teachers in delivering high quality and engaging Mathematics lessons.

What does the course do?

How long does the MEC take?

By using the OFSTED publication ‘Mathematics: made to measure’ as a basis for the course, we focus on: • Increasing the emphasis on problem solving in the classroom • Fostering learner understanding • Using ICT and other resources as key tools to engage learners

for secondary mathematics teachers for non-specialists or those whose teaching needs to be developed to promote student understanding (as highlighted by OFSTED).

2 half-day sessions or 1 full day.

Where is the Venue? Local secondary school or sixth form college Course fees £150 per person

What is the course content? Half Day 1: • Outstanding teaching and learning • Developing students’ Mathematical understanding • Planning problem solving, practical sessions • ‘Takeaways’ to support the development of Mathematics teaching skills. Half Day 2: • Experiencing technology as a learning resource • Planning the use of smart technology and ICT in the classroom • ‘Takeaways’ to develop the resources and sources for future planning
