At Laura Loftin Dentistry, we believe dental care should feel calm, personal, and uplifting. As a privately owned dental office, we’ve created a serene environment where dentistry goes beyond smiles—we care for your overall wellness. From advanced care to comfort-focused details, every visit is designed to help you feel seen, valued, and at ease while achieving the confident smile you deserve.

As we enter this season of gratitude, it’s natural to pause and take stock of the many gifts in our lives. Thanksgiving reminds us to slow down, be present, and appreciate not only what we have—but who we have beside us. It’s a time to celebrate connection, to express thanks, and to give back in ways that make a difference.

In a world that often celebrates hustle and ambition, it’s easy to lose sight of the beauty in the moment. Goals and achievements matter, but true fulfillment doesn’t come from titles or possessions—it comes from within. It’s found in living with purpose, embracing who we are, and cherishing the people who walk with us on our journey.
This November issue is all about gathering, gratitude, and generosity. We are deeply thankful for the residents and local businesses who pour so much heart into our community, making it such a special place to call home.
And to our advertising partners—thank you for helping us share uplifting stories and shine a light on the good happening all around us.
As you prepare to gather with loved ones this holiday season, may you find joy in the simple moments and peace in reflecting on the blessings that surround you.
Wishing you and your family a Thanksgiving filled with warmth and gratitude.

By changing the dental experience, we feel that we can help overcome those fears! Spa-like amenities and exceptional customer service is what we want to give to each patient.

We aren’t here to funnel patients through generalized exercises in hopes that they’ll feel a little better. We treat YOU and your individual needs by building a relationship and providing customized treatments. Make the smart choice and start your journey to being pain-free!

As the only female surgeon in Fort Worth specializing exclusively in facial plastic surgery, Dr. Emily Johnson has spent decades perfecting her craft and tailoring care to each patient who steps through her doors. At her clinic, 817 Surgical Arts, she combines innovative anti-aging and cosmetic technologies with a deep understanding of individual goals. From advanced surgical procedures to a comprehensive medspa and customized treatment plans, 817 Surgical Arts is a place where patients leave feeling confident and empowered.
A proud Texas Christian University alum and triple board-certified facial plastic and cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Johnson trained with nationally renowned experts, refining her skills in both functional and aesthetic procedures. She founded 817 Surgical Arts to “inspire confidence in our patients by providing a comprehensive array of surgical and non-surgical techniques, emphasizing comfort, safety, and outstanding results.”
That mission comes to life in the care she provides every day. “I love working on the face and educating patients on what’s truly needed,” she explains. “It’s such a joy to see the confidence they gain. They carry themselves so differently after treatment compared to when they first walked into my office.”
As the only female surgeon in Fort Worth with this specialty, Dr. Johnson has a unique perspective on what female patients are often seeking. “I feel really passionate about education,” she says. “I want patients to understand which procedures will benefit them most, even if they come in with a different idea initially.” This transparency is a cornerstone of the practice—patients are guided step by step, without pressure, toward the best path forward. What distinguishes Dr. Johnson most is her exclusive focus on the face and neck. After completing a rigorous five-year ENT residency, where she specialized in facial and neck surgery, she pursued an additional fellowship in aesthetics to master cosmetic artistry. “For me to be a master at something, I need to focus all my attention on that,” she explains. Today, she offers procedures such

as blepharoplasty, brow lifts, facelifts, neck lifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction, chin augmentation, fat grafting, and otoplasty—all designed to enhance natural beauty while restoring confidence.
Her expertise in facial anatomy is particularly evident in her high volume of rhinoplasties and deep-plane face and neck lifts. “These surgeries require precision and a deep understanding of structure,” she notes. “It’s something I’ve spent years refining.”
Dr. Johnson chose the name 817 Surgical Arts to honor her roots and give a nod to where it all began. Her clinic prides itself on leading with patient education and providing a no-pressure environment. “Being able to build that trust and relationship with a new patient is really important to us,” she shares. “It’s critical that you find a surgeon you connect with because it’s not just about the procedure; it’s all the aftercare appointments, the education, and all the things we need to do to optimize the results.”
In addition to surgery, 817 Surgical Arts operates as a full-service medspa. Patients can choose from chemical peels, skin resurfacing, radiofrequency microneedling, EMface, Botox, fillers, and other non-invasive treatments. This combination of surgical and nonsurgical services makes the clinic a true one-stop destination for facial aesthetics.
Outside the clinic, Dr. Johnson is deeply rooted in the Fort Worth community. She is married to an anesthesiologist, and shares her home with two teenage boys and two Great Danes.
For anyone considering surgical or nonsurgical cosmetic treatment, Dr. Johnson and her team at 817 Surgical Arts provide expertise, artistry, and compassion. As Dr. Johnson and her team say, “When it comes to choosing a facial plastic surgeon in Fort Worth, you shouldn’t choose anything less than a first-class experience.”
To schedule a consultation with Dr. Johnson, call 817-290-9900. You can also visit 817surgicalarts.com or follow them on Facebook at 817 Surgical Arts, and on Instagram @dr.emily.johnson_fortworth.

ARTICLE BY BROOKE WADSWORTH

Nearly three years ago, Matt Hughes and Griffin Phillips broke ground on The Middleton Hotel in Graham, Texas, bringing a much-needed space to a growing community. The Middleton Hotel is a family of boutique hotels, each created on a historic property with modern construction and design elements, located in the western Cross Timbers area of North Texas.

Matt first recognized the need for another hotel after joining the local board in Graham. Confident he was up for the challenge, he called on his longtime friend Griffin to help imagine not just a hotel, but a place that could add real value to the community. Matt and Griffin set out to ensure every detail of the stay was designed with the guest in mind.
That vision aligned perfectly with the mission of the Graham Industrial Association (GIA), the city’s leading advocate for economic development since 1956. The GIA purchased two properties: an abandoned 19th-century building and a vacant lot nearby. As Matt and Griffin bounced ideas back and forth, their vision for the hotel began to take shape. They didn’t just want a place for travelers

to stay—they envisioned a welcoming space where neighbors could gather, where art and culture could flourish, and where visitors would feel right at home.
The plan took off thanks to XCaliber Container, a locally founded company. Sixteen double-stacked shipping containers were transformed into modern guest rooms, creating a distinctive design that sets The Middleton Hotel apart. The open lot was reimagined with a courtyard featuring a fountain and coffee shop, giving guests and locals alike a place to relax. Meanwhile, the historic building was reborn as a tapas and cocktail restaurant, offering inventive bites and memorable drinks in a lively setting.
One of the hotel’s defining features is its deep connection to the arts. From the start, Matt and Griffin wanted each space to feel alive with creativity. Every room, along with the lounge, showcases the work of a different artist hand-selected by the founders. “Early on in our process, we reached out to some artists that we resonated with, but Shea Slemmer was the first one to really see our vision,” Matt recalls. “Shea travels all around the world, and actually came by before we even broke ground. She helped us gain confidence before we actually opened. Her art is featured in the restaurant and the hotel.” You can see more of Shea’s work on Instagram @sheaslemmer.
Shea’s involvement opened the door for more collaborations. Today, The Middleton Hotel features the work of seventeen artists. Some began with modest followings but have expanded their reach over time, remaining tied to the community
In addition to The Middleton Hotel, Matt and Griffin are also involved with the Jazz Chapel. Originally built in 1883 as the Cotten-Bratton building, this beautifully restored landmark embodies the essence of timeless style with a touch of Texas charm.
through the hotel. “We hand-pick the artists that we really like and that we feel follow our vision,” Matt explains. Make sure to check out all the featured artists listed on their website at hotelmiddleton.com
For travelers seeking more than just a place to stay, The Middleton Hotel delivers an authentic local experience. In the summer, guests can enjoy Graham’s concert series, which brings live music to the heart of town. Combined with a vibrant dining scene and the creative energy infused throughout, The Middleton Hotel emerges as both a cultural hub and a welcoming retreat.

Lance Thompson of Cordell & Company Insurance Agency shares key factors in choosing the best insurance options
ARTICLE BY MICHELLE W. PARNELL
For Lance Thompson, Cordell & Company Insurance Agency allows him to develop intentional and lasting relationships with people in the community as well as an opportunity to provide guidance and assistance during challenging times.
“I enjoy being able to connect with and meet such a variety of people and it is very fulfilling to know that I’m helping somebody,” shares Lance. “Insurance is something that nobody really wants, but it’s something we all have to have. Our team gets to be there when something bad happens and to be able to help people through tough times is what gives a bit of joy throughout doing our job.”
As an independent insurance agent, Lance equips clients by researching and providing the best insurance options to meet their needs, making recovery smoother when unexpected losses arise. Drawing on more than twenty years of personal expertise and six decades of company insight, Lance provides things to consider when it comes to choosing and reviewing insurance options.
“I always recommend getting at least two or three quotes to make sure that you are seeing what the marketplace actually looks like because not every company is the same. Having an independent agent who works with multiple companies helps you easily explore different options.”
“Home and auto deductibles are continuously increasing, so make sure that you're getting the best wind and hail deductible out there. The ideal deductible is in the 1%-2% range. Dallas/Fort Worth gets hail, ice, tornadoes, and residual hurricanes, making roofs the number one claim. So, wind and hail deductibles can be a huge determining factor.”
“You want to avoid getting into a situation where you're trying to cut costs in coverage but then experience a loss, because then you're having to scramble to figure out ways to make sure that you're properly covered. Make sure the coverage you have is adequate for your situation.”
“In addition to documenting your belongings, make special note of any collections such as jewelry, firearms, antiques, and collector’s items like baseball cards that may not be adequately covered through regular personal property insurance.”
“As your business expands and grows, it is important to make sure that your general liability class codes are actually defining what you're doing. Communicate any changes to your agent to ensure proper coverage.”
“Insurance is a top expense for a lot of people, and you need to make sure you're getting the best value and coverage. Communicate with your agent about changes such as refinancing, moving, or opening a home business.”
“With increasing insurance premiums, it is important to have an agent who will communicate with you and will shop for the best insurance fit and not just do an annual renewal. Independent agents can explore what is out there in the marketplace and get the best value.”

I am so grateful to serve West Fort Life Magazine as the social media director. My favorite Thanksgiving tradition is something my parents started when I was very young which was inviting those who do not have a place to have a Thanksgiving with loved ones over to our home. We have had church friends to coworkers come to our home & now my husband & I intend to carry on that same tradition in our home. Something special being able to share memories & create them over a home cooked meal—and pie of course. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

As a writer with City Lifestyle I enjoy discovering people’s passions and being a facilitator for them to share those passions with the world. One of my favorite Thanksgiving traditions is time around the table with family, laughing and enjoying time together without the distractions of a busy schedule… with a little parade watching and football thrown into the mix.

James Taylor’s concert felt less like a performance and more like a gathering with friends. With wit, humility, and timeless music, he created an evening of connection that reached far beyond the stage.
Taylor’s voice anchored the night - warm and woven with the rich harmonies of his singers and the layered talent of his band. Between songs, he mixed humor and gratitude: joking about being with the band for “80 years,” teasing his son and band

vocalist Henry, and even holding up the set list to assure the audience of what was ahead. He also paused to thank everyone—from the musicians, singers, crew and to Amy and Rachel at the monitor feed—making it clear how deeply he values the people behind the collective sound.
The highlights were many: an energetic “Up on the Roof,” a star-lit intimacy during “Sweet Baby James,” and an extended standing ovation after “Fire and Rain.” His delivery of Carole King’s songs carried quiet reverence, honoring their long friendship.
The stage design mirrored the music, with meteor-shower bursts of light and scenic backdrops that transported the audience to campfires and Carolina woods, and warm nights with fireworks. Fans called out throughout the show, and Taylor responded with quick humor, creating the easy familiarity of a reunion.
By the final notes, the concert had become more than music. It was a night of gratitude, laughter, and song—an evening that felt like coming home.

Let’s face it: hosting Thanksgiving dinner can be stressful.
Between grocery shopping, house cleaning, cooking and baking, it’s no wonder the day devoted to giving thanks can feel a tad daunting.
Here’s some very welcome good news: whether this is your first holiday hosting rodeo or you’ve stuffed many a turkey over the years, you can knock out most of the Thanksgiving meal prep work in advance – some of it two weeks before the big day.
To make this year’s Thanksgiving meal easier and more enjoyable, consider the following timeline of tips.

2 WEEKS BEFORE
• Print out the recipes you plan to use – this will be much easier than constantly tapping your phone to prevent the screen from going dark or scrolling when your hands are covered with flour or onions.
• Using your menu and printed out recipes as a guide, compose a complete shopping list.
• Double check your supply of herbs and spices to see what you have on hand –even the ones you are pretty sure you have enough of, like salt and pepper (this tip comes from personal experience!).
• Shop for all non-perishable and frozen food items. Basically, if it doesn’t need to be stored in the fridge, or if it doesn’t have a short shelf life, it’s going in the cart.
• Plan three easy and tasty dinners for the days leading up to Thanksgiving and purchase those ingredients during your shopping trip. Or plan at least one night of takeout.
CONTINUED >

• Clean your home completely, enlisting family members to help. Then, as the big day approaches, you can touch up as needed.
• Finish your grocery shopping for fresh vegetables like potatoes, onions and carrots and other items not purchased earlier.
• Go through your fridge and toss any old, expired condiments, leftovers and mysterious food items that no one is eating. This will free up valuable real estate for your various dishes.

• Wash and chop all veggies and place the prepped produce into plastic baggies or airtight food storage containers. If some recipes call for “minced onion” and others require “chopped onion,” label the bags accordingly.
• Set the table, and include the empty serving dishes. This will help you figure out ahead of time where the larger dishes can go (and if they will all fit!) Add Post-It notes to the empty dishes to remind you what will go in what. Use a clean sheet to cover everything and keep it all dust-free until Thursday. You can also do this for a buffet.
• Gather all needed serving spoons and other serving pieces.
• Pre-measure herbs and spices for your recipes and store them in labeled small plastic bags with the name of the dish they are for and what’s in the baggies. You can also do the same for any flour, sugar or other non-perishable ingredients you’ll use in your dishes.

• Do a quick clean and tidy around the home; for instance, run the vacuum and shine up the bathrooms.
• If you haven’t already done so, bake your pies, or, at the very least, prepare your pie dough. Wrap the dough in plastic and keep it in the fridge until you’re ready to assemble and bake the pies.
• Make the mashed potatoes. Bonus tip: on Thanksgiving, put the potatoes into a slow cooker and heat them up using the “warm” setting.
• Prepare the gravy. If you have a second slow cooker, it too can be warmed up this way on Thanksgiving. This will also help free up pots, pans and burners on the stove!
• Set up a separate drink station where guests can help themselves or someone can serve them away from the kitchen. Stock it with glasses of different sizes, napkins, bottle and can openers and straws.

Despite the stubborn Texas heat, fall fun still finds its way to Fort Worth. While the leaves may not change as dramatically and sweater weather is more of a state of mind than a forecast, there's still plenty of seasonal charm to soak up. From pumpkin patches and festivals to cozy cafes and local events, there's no shortage of ways to get into the autumn spirit—even if you're still wearing short sleeves. Here's your ultimate guide to making the most of the season in Cowtown.
Take a Walk in the Park
As the heat begins to lessen, take advantage of the cool weather and enjoy the outdoors. While the leaves may not change color quickly in the season, there is plenty of lovely nature to be seen at the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, along the Trinity River, and right in your own neighborhood!
Watch a Performance
At the height of Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Texas Ballet Theatre, and Casa Mañana’s seasons, there are many opportunities to attend a performance from talented artists. Come dressed in your best and experience an evening filled with warmth (and maybe some holiday hits).
Experience a Football Game
Football and fall go hand in hand! Whether it’s Friday Night Lights at the high school, experiencing TCU game day in Amon G. Carter Stadium, or taking a trip to Arlington to watch the Cowboys, watching a football game is necessary to fully engage in the fall season.
Give Back
In a season of gratitude and thankfulness, give back to the Fort Worth community by volunteering your time with the Tarrant Area Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, or another charity. A fraction of your time and energy could make a difference in someone else’s life.
Enjoy Seasonal Flavors
Immerse yourself in the fall flavors of cinnamon, pumpkin spice, and caramel by enjoying seasonal coffee menus at Fort Worth favorites like Ampersand, Summer Moon, Common Grounds.
Visit a Farmer’s Market or Fall Festival
Ring in the harvest season by strolling through a farmer’s market like the Clearfork Farmer’s Market or a fall festival to pick up seasonal produce like squash, pumpkins, apples, and other baked goods filled with fall flavors! Enjoy these limited time treats and the cool air!

The holidays have a way of calling us back to what matters most—faith, family, compassion, and the quiet but powerful act of giving. As lights go up and calendars fill, there are still many who sit in silence, carrying burdens too heavy to bear alone. But what if this season, you could be the spark that changes everything for someone else?
The founders of City Lifestyle, through their private foundation, are once again launching its annual Christmas Giving Campaign—a heartfelt effort to seek out and support individuals and families who have quietly fallen through the cracks. The mission is simple: to bring light, dignity, and hope to those who need it most.
Since its beginning just four years ago, this initiative has grown from a humble idea into a life-changing movement. Last Christmas alone, more than 200 families across the country received unexpected support—financial relief, but also something even more powerful.
“We don’t just send checks,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
Together with City Lifestyle President Matthew Perry, Steven has helped shape this into a tradition that goes far beyond charity. “This is about community,” Matthew adds. “We believe we’ve been blessed, so now we get to be a blessing.”
Every story begins with a nomination. Often, it’s a neighbor, coworker, friend, or teacher—someone who’s been quietly carrying too much for too long. One past recipient, after receiving unexpected support during a time of deep personal struggle, wrote:

“We send a message: You are seen. You are loved. And you are not forgotten.”
“Beyond the very practical solution of receiving funds to fix my car, this thing you guys worked together to do is bigger than that. I carry the Christmas card you sent in my purse. When things get really hard, I pull it out and remember what it felt like to be seen. That card represents hope— that change for the better is possible. I’m not sure how many people get to carry hope around in their purse. But I do.”
Another wrote in after her husband was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer and unable to work:
“This support has blessed our family not only financially, but emotionally and spiritually as we trust God to meet our needs throughout this difficult time. Thank you to our anonymous friend and to your foundation. What a joy and gift to be part of God’s family!”
Each year brings countless stories like these—real lives touched by simple acts of kindness. Some use the funds to pay overdue bills, others to afford groceries, medication, or repairs. But no matter the circumstance, the impact is the same: hope is restored.
This season, you have the opportunity to be part of that. The campaign is now open to nominations—completely confidential and prayerfully considered. Whether it’s someone battling illness, facing unemployment, or just in need of a helping hand, you can bring them a moment of grace that will ripple far beyond Christmas morning.
“Knowing my mom was chosen filled my heart with indescribable joy,” said another past recipient. “Your generosity doesn’t just brighten her life; it inspires hope and faith in all of us. It enables her to stay in her home and get back on her feet.”
Nominations are open from November 1st to December 5th, 2025. To submit someone you know, simply scan the QR code or visit @CityLifestyle on Instagram, where you’ll find the nomination form in the bio.
This holiday season, let’s give more than gifts. Let’s give each other the gift of being seen. Because sometimes, the smallest gesture becomes someone’s greatest miracle.
