Lovin’ Everything & Everybody Local

The title of this message might seem like an overstatement (it is)…there is certainly plenty of that going around these days. However, I was inspired by a “local” story that is not local to our community, but to one in Florida. While it is 3,000 miles away, it meant as much to me as if it happened in Thousand Oaks or Westlake Village.

I’m old-fashioned. I’d rather be informed by what I read from a diverse selection of credible sources than have my brain fried by TV “talking heads” or a blabber mouth podcast “influencer” (gads, I really dislike that word!). So, I get news feeds from newspapers, magazines, broadcast and internet media of all sorts.

In this case, The Washington Post sent me an article entitled, “He ate at this restaurant every day. When he didn’t show, the chef saved his life.” What happened was that a retired Air Force veteran was an everyday diner at the Shrimp Basket restaurant in Pensacola, Florida. He always ordered the gumbo. He chatted with folks and became friends with the chef. When he stopped showing up, the chef went to his apartment, found him near death and then saved his life. That and the amazing follow-up support from the chef, the restaurant and its staff and patrons are in the article ( https://apple.news/A1lYn4eQ_QMqCKXiZVFVczQ).

Businesses and a neighborhood came together to support a lonely senior. What does this caring, compassion and generosity in Pensacola have to do with our community? Pretty much everything. I believe it could and might happen here and come out just as well.

In this issue you will see how Montecito Bank & Trust supports local nonprofits throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. It’s a bank for Pete’s sake! But it’s a community bank and that says it all!

There is much more inside and it is all about us…the “locals.” Friends and neighbors.

Happy Valentines Day

from Rosemary Allison

My husband Jim is a devout Catholic, and Sunday Mass has always been one of his greatest joys. Around 2001, our parish put out an appeal for donations to the Loaves and Fishes Pantry. At the same time, Jim was stepping into his new role as a step-dad to my three children. His goal was never to replace their father, but to offer them love, stability, and the kind of family traditions that shape lifelong memories.

One of those traditions became our nightly family dinners, where we shared the triumphs and challenges of the week. Another grew from Jim’s desire to teach the kids the quiet beauty of giving back. The Saturday before Thanksgiving each year, he would load Jennifer, Cristina, and Joe into the car and take them shopping — not for themselves, but for families in need. Together, they filled carts with food for the Loaves & Fishes Pantry and delivered it to Padre Serra.

For years, Marlene Schuberg and the church volunteers were astonished by the unexpected — and abundant — deliveries that appeared without fanfare to the pantry housed at St. Mary. Eventually, they uncovered the truth: Jim and his three merry little elves were the anonymous “Santa team” behind those bountiful donations. Every year, including this past December—three years after Jim’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis—we have kept his tradition alive. Jim, Joe, his wife Katie, Cristina, and I filled a large trailer and delivered the food to Marlene at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Camarillo for distribution to families in need.

Though Alzheimer’s has taken so much, Jim’s memories were momentarily reawakened. He smiled, bursting with pride and joy, watching our grown children—and our youngest granddaughters, Elizabeth and Madeline, riding along in the cart—carry on his tradition by purchasing, delivering, and unloading the food into the pantry. What began as a simple family tradition has taken on a deeper meaning now, becoming a living thread that carries Jim’s values forward — from memory to love, from past to present.

The traditions Jim created with my children became essential in building a relationship rooted in respect, affection, and admiration. They wove a beautiful tapestry of shared experiences that strengthened our family and enriched each of our lives.

As families today navigate the rush and noise of modern life, my hope is that they discover — or rediscover — their own rituals. These traditions become the heartbeat of family life, reminding us where we come from and gently guiding our children toward where they are going. They are the bridges between generations and the anchors that hold us close. And for us, they remain a precious reminder of the love, generosity, and quiet heroism of the remarkable man I married.

Montecito Bank & Trust Gives $1.2 Million to Local Nonprofits

For the 23rd year and counting, Montecito Bank & Trust awarded local nonprofits grants to support their efforts to uplift the area’s most vulnerable residents.

“You and your teams are resourceful problem solvers; often the first to see a need and step up to meet it,” acknowledged Chairman and CEO Janet Garufis. “You respond to crises at hand, work to find long-term solutions and to help empower individuals and families so that they have the tools they need to not just survive but thrive. You feed the hungry, house the homeless and heal the hurting… You listen to your community, engaging with them to better understand their needs, collaborate with partners… and advocate for changes to enhance the quality of life for all segments of our community. THANK YOU!”

Montecito Bank & Trust’s Annual Community Dividends® Awards Luncheon, held last November at The Hilton Santa Barbara Beachside Resort, recognized 188 local nonprofits’ amazing work, distributing $1.2 million in awards to help support their programs. Since its launch in 2003, the Community Dividends program has invested more than $24 million in over 300 nonprofit organizations. In 2025, its total charitable giving exceeded $1.7 million, with funding directed toward organizations serving lowto moderate-income individuals and families across both counties.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Nonprofit executives, frontline staff and volunteers gathered alongside 68 Montecito Bank & Trust associates, the Bank’s executive leadership, Board of Directors and Emeritus Director Pete Jordano to celebrate the organizations. Throughout the year, Bank associates contributed more than 5,500 volunteer hours to many of the organizations represented.

In addition to awarding Community Dividends grants, the Bank chose two nonprofits to receive the Michael Towbes Community Impact Dividend, established in 2019 to honor the Bank’s founder. The annual award directs at least $100,000 to nonprofits delivering essential, sustainable services to large numbers of vulnerable residents.

This year, rising demand and a shifting funding environment made it difficult to prioritize a single area of need.

Photo Credit: Clint Weisman, Clint Weisman Studio

“Identifying one pillar where the need was clearly greatest—food insecurity, mental wellness, housing and healthcare—proved to be an impossible task,” Garufis said. Thus, the Bank opted to strengthen the community’s safety net by investing in two trusted local foundations: Santa Barbara Foundation and Ventura County Community Foundation. Each received $100,000 for emergency response funds, bringing the Impact Dividend total to $200,000.

This decision “demonstrates MB&T’s unwavering commitment to our ENTIRE community. Mike always hoped that our Philanthropy would ‘model the way’ for others in the community,” said Garufis. “We believe this is one of those moments

where MB&T can make a powerful statement about the urgent need for support.”

Attendees also received a surprise treat from students at the Music Academy of the West’s SING! Program, who performed “ Shalom Chaverim,” a Hebrew folk song, and “Kuwa Furaha” (Be Joy) by Jim Papoulis, drawing a standing ovation from the audience. The free afterschool program primarily serves students from Title I schools and is supported by Montecito Bank & Trust.

The event concluded with another unexpected nod commemorating the Bank’s 50th anniversary—five “golden tickets,” each representing a decade of service, were tucked into the Bank’s 2025 Community Impact Report distributed at the event. The nonprofits who discovered them received an additional $500 donation.

The afternoon demonstrated the importance of service and recognition as well as the mutual benefits that result when local institutions work with area nonprofits to invest in the well-being of the place we call home.

“Everyone is invited to this exciting evening on February 28th at the Hyatt Regency Westlake! Adorn yourself in colorful, festive attire and be prepared to dance the night away to captivating music while fostering a strong sense of community spirit,” says Community Conscience’s Executive Director Robin Britt. “The 2026 Mardi Gras Ball promises to be an unforgettable night!” Guests are invited to kick off the evening with a champagne reception, accompanied by smooth jazz from the Chris Banta Trio; mingle in the silent auction; and enjoy a gourmet dinner and lively dancing to the tunes of Fifth Avenue Entertainment.

Highlights of the 33rd annual Mardi Gras Ball include silent and live auctions featuring incredible items. Funds raised contribute to the important cause of helping provide the community's most vulnerable residents with access to essential services at no cost through Community Conscience’s Human Services Center. Each year, these nonprofits serve more than 79,000 people.

ROYAL RECOGNITION

Honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to the Greater Conejo Valley through their actions, talents, dedication or financial support is another anticipated Mardi Gras tradition.

King of the Mardi Gras Ball Chuck Huffer is being honored for his extensive volunteer work, including

service with the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks, Conejo Recreation & Park District (CRPD) Board, Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency (COSCA) Board, and Conejo Senior Volunteer Program’s Free Income Tax Program.

“His positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to serving others make him an exemplary volunteer and a valued member of the community,” says Britt.

This year’s Queen of the Mardi Gras Ball Jill Haney is recognized for her dedication to civic and philanthropic life, comprising volunteerism and leadership across business, healthcare, education and social services. Her current service includes work with the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, Greater Conejo Valley Community Foundation, Moorpark College Foundation, Rotary Club of Simi Sunset, Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley, Center for Non-Profit Leadership, and Simi Valley Chamber of Commerce. Past leadership roles include guiding organizations such as United Way of Ventura County, Ventura County Leadership Academy, Simi Valley Hospital Foundation, Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital, Simi Valley Free Clinic, American Heart Association, Simi Sunset Foundation, and Simi Valley Education Foundation.

“Jill has consistently united people for the common good, leaving an indelible mark on the community fabric and earning admiration and respect from colleagues, volunteers and residents alike,” notes Britt.

Joanne Grimm, Owner and Artist of Joanne’s Garden Whimsy

As a former elementary school teacher, I made it a priority to include art throughout the curriculum. Now that I am retired, art is not only a priority for me, but a necessity! I am a self-taught artist and have been creating mandalas for over 7 years. I began painting as a way of helping me navigate my cancer journey. With that phase of my life behind me, I now have the privilege of sharing my love of this colorful and meditative art form through teaching mandala painting classes in my home studio.

“I encourage everyone to make art a part of their daily self-care practice; letting go of the idea of making it perfectly and learning to enjoy the process.”
Joanne Grimm

In the 4 years I’ve been teaching painting, my students continue to be my inspiration to grow as an artist and explore new designs and techniques. With the success of my own classes, I regularly invite local guest artists to teach workshops at my studio to share their creative talents with my students, truly making it a supportive community of one another.

As a member of the Buenaventura Art Association in Ventura, I am part of an amazing network of artists who challenge me to try new things, in turn, sharing with them the art of mandala painting. I encourage everyone to make art a part of their daily self-care practice, letting go of the idea of making it perfectly and learning to enjoy the process.  JoannesGardenWhimsy.com & FB/ Instagram @JoannesGardenWhimsy

Kathy Somers, Kathy’s Moss Art

I became passionate about creating moss art after a home remodel. Since then, I can’t stop making new one-of-a-kind designs because it’s challenging. I also love bringing nature into so many people’s homes (without the work of a plant). This unique art is touchable and adds beauty for years. Becoming an artist allows me to give back—I donate 30% of my sales to three local charities: Raising Hope, Able Arts Work, and Shelter Hope. @kathysmossart

Sandra Stevens, Blue Elly Designs

When I started out sewing in my 20s, I started making quilts and after seeing how taking some simple cotton fabrics and creating a beautiful piece of art, I was hooked. After many years of quilting, I found minky fabric and all the wonderful blankets and stuffed animals that can be made for children to enjoy. Every year I find something new to add to my sewing experience. For me, it is a creative outlet that is a large part of my everyday life.

HRC Fertility: Helping Families Grow

HRC Fertility Westlake Village is quietly transforming heartbreak into hope, one family at a time. In a community where playgrounds, schools and parks are woven into daily life, this clinic stands as a refuge for those who are struggling to build the families they’ve always imagined.

Where Science Meets Heart

At HRC Fertility Westlake Village, reproductive medicine is only part of the story; the rest is about human connection.

“People come to us at some of the most vulnerable moments in their lives,” says Dr. Alison Peck, a Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist at HRC. “Our job is to pair the best science with genuine compassion so they never feel alone on this journey.”

Fellow Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist Dr. Roy Handelsman shares that philosophy.

“We’re not just treating lab results,” says Dr. Handelsman. “We’re caring for people who are carrying enormous hope and often enormous grief at the same time.”

What HRC Fertility Offers

HRC Fertility Westlake Village provides a full spectrum of reproductive care, including diagnostic evaluations, fertility preservation, advanced treatments and third-party reproduction. Among the most popular services are IVF (in vitro fertilization), egg freezing, IUI (intrauterine insemination) and options involving egg donors, sperm donors and gestational surrogates, along with comprehensive male fertility evaluations and hormonal assessments.

“No two patients have the same story, so no two plans should look the same,” Dr. Peck explains. “We tailor every protocol to the individual or couple sitting in front of us.”

Behind the scenes is a state-of-the-art embryology lab and advanced genetic testing that allows the team to manage even the most complex cases. Dr. Handelsman emphasizes that the technology is a means, not an end: “Cutting-edge tools are powerful, but what matters

most is how thoughtfully we use them. Every decision comes back to what gives this patient the best chance at the family they dream of.”

Patient-First Philosophy

What truly sets HRC Fertility apart is its culture of warmth and partnership. Patients often describe feeling “seen” and “supported,” which is no small thing when appointments can involve deeply personal conversations and difficult news.

“Infertility can feel isolating,” says Dr. Peck. “We want our patients to feel that when they walk through our doors, they’re stepping into a space where they are heard, respected and believed.”

That ethos extends to patients from all walks of life, including single parents by choice and those growing families through donor or surrogate assistance.

“Families are created in many different ways, and all of them are valid. Our role is to support that diversity with both excellence and open-hearted acceptance,” notes Dr. Handelsman.

Rooted in the Conejo Valley

For the Conejo Valley community, HRC Fertility Westlake Village is more than a medical office; it is a place where futures are quietly rewritten.

“In an area so rich with families and children, it’s deeply meaningful to help those who are still on their way there,” Dr. Peck says. “Every positive pregnancy test, every birth announcement—we feel honored to be part of that story.”

Ultimately, the team views its work as creating a far-reaching “ripple effect of love,” one family at a time. As Dr. Handelsman reflects, “When a patient sends us a photo of their baby or stops by with a toddler who once existed only as a hope, it’s a reminder of why we do this. We’re helping turn possibility into new beginnings.”

HRC Fertility Westlake Village is located at 1220 La Venta Drive, #103 in Westlake Village. For more information, call 866.HRC.4IVF or visit HavingBabies.com/ locations/Westlake-Village

Fall for Jasper, Canada’s Rocky Mountain Town

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY MELISSA CURTIN

For explorers and wanderers who appreciate the power of the mighty universe, the largest National Park in the Canadian Rockies awaits. Designated a Dark Sky Preserve and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Jasper National Park boasts over 4,000 square miles of untamed wilderness and limited light pollution.

World-class Marmot Basin is a popular year-round destination for outdoor adventures—from skiing, to hiking, to wildlife viewing. Proximity to all the best activities makes small town, unpretentious Jasper an ideal base for exploring the area’s glaciers, turquoise lakes, powerful waterfalls and abundant wildlife. Towering Canadian Rockies—with dramatic peaks, ranges and mountainscapes—feel like stepping into a postcard.

Photograph Furry Friends

Jasper received the UNESCO designation in part due to the abundant fauna that calls the park home. Every turn is a photo opportunity.

SunDog Tour Co. offers thrilling expeditions to witness elk, moose, big horn sheep, wolves, lynx and mountain goats. This year-round wildlife tour, in a heated mini-coach with oversized windows, features a local guide for expert knowledge of the area’s wildlife and terrain.

While most bears currently hibernate, in 10 years, Jasper may be the bear capital of the world, because grass, wildflowers and buffalo berries (a favorite treat) will be accessible year-round.

Find the Falls

Follow the path to the falls on the Icefields Parkway, considered one of the most scenic drives in the world—from Jasper, through the Columbia Icefields to Athabasca Falls, just a half hour south of town. Weather permitting, gear up to explore Athabasca Glacier and its ice caves with an experienced guide from Rockaboo Mountain Adventures.

Athabasca Falls’ pounding waters, known more for volume and force than height, originate from a glacier that cut through the rocks beneath Mount Kerkeslin. The Athabasca River plunges 79 feet over a hard quartzite layer into a narrow gorge, creating thunderous displays of sound and spray before winding to the Arctic Ocean. Forty minutes south of Jasper, glacier-fed Sunwaptu Falls boasts a 59-foot upper falls easily accessible from the viewpoint parking lot, while a 1.3-mile hike winds through a pine forest to the lower falls.

Find Zen at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Fairmont’s chic mountain retreat features a luxurious spa to warm the bones and soothe the soul. Anyone can book a spa day for access to the hotel’s steam room, sauna and heated outdoor pool and jacuzzi, with views of the picture-perfect Lac Beauvert and Canadian Rocky Mountains. Cozy up by the historic lobby’s grand stone fireplace. Sip a Ceaser, Canada’s favorite clamato cocktail, or stay for an Italian dinner at Orso Trattoria to indulge in Lamb Pappardelle, Short Rib Agnolotti or a juicy steak. In winter, skate on the nearby lake or blast off through the solar system with astronomy experts at the interactive 50-seat domed planetarium.

Stop for breakfast at Otto’s Cache for artisanal coffees, healthy smoothies, scrumptious sandwiches and brunch bites like Turkish eggs or crispy potato hash. Indulge in freshly baked pastries, savory scones and pies, Basque cheesecake and soft fresh cookie medleys like brown butter chocolate. Celebrate Canadian whisky culture and step into Maligne Range for a flight or cocktail at Jasper’s first distillery, opened last summer, that uses local grains and glacier-fed water.

Discover the Second Largest Dark Sky Preserve

Connect to the universe with a 2-hour outdoor stargazing experience. Jasper Star Trails provides space talks and private tours that make the night sky come alive with advanced digital and optical telescope equipment showing the Milky Way, comets, double stars, nebulas, planets, galaxies, whizzing satellites and more. Powerful binoculars allow you to see the craters on the moon as it inches above the mountains. In summer, as days grow longer and the sun sets after 10 p.m., specialized solar gazing equipment is used to view the surface of the sun.

The annual Jasper Dark Sky Festival is filled with celestial moments like a sunset helicopter cruise, dark sky treasure hunt or animals of the night hike. Special events include a Drone Light Show and speakers like astronaut Robert Thirsk. If you’re lucky, you might witness the Aurora Borealis.

ANNA SANTIAGO CATERING: CONNECTING THROUGH FOOD

Anna Santiago Catering is rooted in a simple idea: that food is one of the most powerful ways to make people feel seen, cared for and connected. For Founder and Executive Chef Anna Santiago, this endeavor is about much more than a menu.

“Anna Santiago Catering is a Southern California–based catering company focused on thoughtfully crafted food experiences for weddings, private events, corporate gatherings and intimate celebrations,” she explains. “At its core, Anna Santiago Catering is about hospitality—bringing people together through food that feels intentional, welcoming and memorable.” That emphasis on feeling—how guests experience a moment, how hosts feel supported—drives every decision behind the scenes.

Her culinary vision blends elevated, seasonal cuisine with global inspiration so that dishes feel refined yet approachable. Anna describes how every menu is designed to reflect both place and personality, weaving in the best of the season with flavors from around the world.

“The food reflects global flavors and careful technique without feeling

overcomplicated or trend-driven,” she notes, pointing to a philosophy that values substance over spectacle and invites clients into a creative partnership.

“What sets Anna Santiago Catering apart is the balance between elevated presentation and genuine warmth,” Anna says. “Every menu is customized, never templated and thoughtfully built around the client's vision, dietary needs and the experience they want their guests to have.” That means no preset packages or onesize-fits-all offerings. Instead, Anna and her team listen closely: What does this couple want their guests to remember? How should the food reflect a family story, a shared trip or a cultural tradition?

That level of intention shows up most clearly in how the company handles dietary needs.

“Anna Santiago Catering offers a deeply personal, chef-driven approach that combines creativity with flexibility and care,” Anna explains. “From celiac-safe grazing boxes to globally inspired wedding menus, the company is known for accommodating dietary needs without compromising flavor or presentation.” Trust and communication are central. “Clients receive a collaborative experience that prioritizes trust, communication and thoughtful execution rather than a one-size-fitsall package.”

Some offerings have become instant favorites.

“Some of the most popular offerings include curated grazing tables and boxes, elevated appetizer service for receptions and cocktail-style events, wedding catering, private chef dinners

and corporate gatherings,” Anna shares. The elevated appetizer service, in particular, is a standout for clients who want movement and mingling rather than a traditional seated dinner. “The elevated appetizer service is especially popular for clients who want an interactive, refined experience that encourages movement, conversation and variety while maintaining a polished presentation.”

Behind the polished food and seamless service is a deeply personal story.

“Anna Santiago Catering grew from a lifelong connection to food as a way of expressing care and bringing people together,” Anna reflects. “For me, cooking has always been rooted in family, culture and community—where meals were less about perfection and more about connection.” Over time, that personal foundation evolved into a professional calling. “That philosophy continues to guide the company today, shaping menus and events that feel intentional, warm and genuinely meaningful.”

Ultimately, Anna sees her work as an extension of how she shows up for people in her life.

“The ultimate goal of Anna Santiago Catering is to create food experiences that make people feel seen, cared for and connected,” she says. “Beyond serving great food, the company aims to set a standard for thoughtful hospitality— where inclusivity, quality and intention are never compromised. The hope is that every event leaves guests feeling welcomed and hosts feeling supported and confident in what they shared.”

SUGAR PLUM FAIRY FUN

Pacific Festival Ballet celebrated their annual Sugar Plum Fairy fundraiser and luncheon at North Ranch Country Club. The Sugar Plum Fairy theme always leads to their annual production of “The Nutcracker” ballet led by Artistic Director Kim Maselli. Our Conejo Valley community always looks forward to this treasured event that starts the Christmas season.

When I was a child, our house was often full of classical music. Tchaikovsky's score is particularly special to children. A magic moment occurred a few years ago when we were at Pacific Festival Ballet's “The Nutcracker” with our granddaughter, Bellefleur; she turned to us and said, "I love this music!" She was about 5 years old then. She's 12 now, and she loves it even more.

Take in sweeping alpine views across Switzerland’s

DIS COVER THE VALAIS REGION OF SWITZERLAND, WHERE ALPINE TRAILS, THERMAL SPRINGS, AND LOCAL TRADITIONS CREATE RESTORATIVE TRAVEL.

AN ALPINE ESCAPE

AN ALPINE ADVENTURE IN ALETSCH ARENA

An easy train ride from Zurich lands visitors in the Aletsch Arena, a high-alpine region on the south side of the Bernese Alps, home to three villages: Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp. Known for its ski slopes in winter and hiking in summer, the area is entirely car-free, making walking and local buses the main modes of transportation through its quaint chalet-lined streets.

One of the main attractions of the ski-in/ski-out area is the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 12-mile glacier is visible from several vantage points, shaping every experience in the area.

In Switzerland’s Valais region, wellness and adventure are always part of the same itinerary. Morning could bring a high-alpine hike, afternoon a soak in mineral-rich springs, and evening a table set with traditional cuisine, always including delicious wine and cheese. For travelers, the best part will be finding the perfect balance between exploring the outdoors and relaxing with wellness-infused activities in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

WHERE TO STAY

Located in the heart of Bettmeralp, Hotel Panorama provides no-fuss accommodations steps away from the picturesque Chapel Maria Zum Schnee. The hotel’s restaurant offers delicious regional cuisine, including raclette paired with Swiss wine. A good bottle of Pinot Noir or Gamay is also easy to come by because the Valais region of Switzerland is one of the largest wine-producing areas in the country, with vineyards dotting the steep slopes of the Rhône Valley. In addition to wine and cheese, eating cholera, a covered vegetable pie invented in the region during the cholera epidemic, is a must.

WHAT TO DO

Begin at Viewpoint Moosfluh, the closest and lowest vantage point of the Aletsch Glacier. From there, trailheads lead to Villa Cassel, once the home of a British financier and now a museum focused on history and conservation. The hike passes through a thousand-year-old forest with views of both the glacier and the Matterhorn.

Walk over Goms Bridge, a nearly 1,000-foot-long suspension bridge that connects two hiking areas over the Rhône River. For a final look at the majestic glacier, take the cable car to Viewpoint Eggishorn. At nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Jungfraujoch, or the “Top of Europe,” and the most comprehensive view of the Aletsch Glacier.

The World Needs Love

Invest in Kindness!

Today I wore a red sweater with the word LOVE written boldly across the front. I didn’t expect anything special from it, but everywhere I went, people stopped to compliment it. Some were strangers I had never met, yet they smiled, pointed to the sweater, and told me I was glowing. I don’t think it was the sweater itself—I think it was the word love. It’s amazing how a simple word can touch people so deeply. Whether someone has felt love, is seeking it, or is still learning how to receive it, love is a universal language that everyone understands. Loving someone can look different for each of us. For some, it’s a warm hug; for others, it’s listening without judgment or showing up when it matters. I feel truly blessed by the love I receive from my family, my neighbors, my friends and even the people I meet for just a moment. I genuinely believe that the right people show up in our lives exactly when they’re supposed to.

But here’s something I’ve learned: If you’re not feeling the love, sometimes

the answer is to give more of it. When we express love—through kindness, encouragement or simple human connection—we naturally invite more of it back into our lives. When people feel loved, they tend to stand a little taller, smile a little wider and treat themselves and others with more care. And the beautiful thing is, when they feel good, you feel good too.

Love is infectious in the best possible way, just like compassion and empathy. When we take the time to understand what someone else is going through, we help create a softer, kinder world.

In a time when life can feel complicated and rushed, it’s clear to me that what the world needs—perhaps now more than ever—is love.

Warmly,
