February is a reminder that even in the middle of winter, there’s so much to enjoy when you lean into your community. This Love Local Issue is all about celebrating the experiences, ideas, and destinations both near and far that bring a little extra warmth to the season.

This month, we’re highlighting the excitement around Hill House Home’s newest opening on Greenwich Avenue. While it’s just south of us, the brand has long been loved by Upper Westchester readers, making this expansion feel especially relevant. Founder Nell Diamond’s thoughtful approach to design where comfort and beauty coexist and mirrors the lifestyle so many in our community value, and it’s a story that resonates well beyond town lines.
February also invites us to carve out time for connection, which is why we’ve curated a date night feature in New York City. From romantic dinners to memorable evenings that feel a little out of the ordinary, these ideas are perfect for Valentine’s Day or any winter night that calls for a change of scenery.
Of course, love isn’t only about romance. Our Galentine’s Day ideas celebrate friendship, laughter, and the simple joy of gathering with people who know you best. Whether it’s a low-key night in or a thoughtfully planned outing, these moments of connection are often the ones we remember most.
And with Super Bowl Sunday on the calendar, we’re embracing the fun side of February with a collection of easy, crowd-friendly dip recipes. Ideal for hosting, sharing, or snacking your way through the game, they’re designed to keep things festive without adding stress.
Winter can sometimes feel long, but this issue is an invitation to make it meaningful, through shared meals, spontaneous plans, and stories that inspire you to explore something new. Thank you for being part of our Upper Westchester community and for continuing to support the local businesses and experiences that make this region such a special place to live.

When Nell Diamond opens the doors to Hill House Home at 117 Greenwich Avenue, it’s more than a retail expansion, it’s a full-circle moment.
Born and raised in London, Diamond spent part of her early childhood living in Greenwich, a detail that makes this new storefront feel deeply personal. “Opening a Hill House store on Greenwich Ave is truly a dream come true,” she shares. That sense of nostalgia and intention is woven into every detail of the space and the brand itself.
Diamond’s design sensibility was shaped early by classic British interiors and textiles, an influence that still defines Hill House’s aesthetic today. After attending Princeton University and beginning her career in finance, she quickly realized something was missing. “It didn’t feel right,” she says. “I wanted to work at a consumer brand.” That instinct led her to Yale School of Management, where she reconnected with Connecticut and where the idea for Hill House was born through Yale’s entrepreneurship program.

Founded in 2016, Hill House began as a directto-consumer home brand celebrated for its elevated bedding and textiles. But in 2019, everything changed with the launch of the Nap Dress® a piece that would become both a cult favorite and a cultural phenomenon. With its signature elasticated Nap Smocking, the dress redefined what it meant to be stylish and comfortable, quickly expanding Hill House into a fashion-forward lifestyle brand.
Today, Hill House offers far more than its iconic dresses. The brand now includes ready-to-wear, outerwear, accessories, sleepwear, kids’ apparel, and a beloved home collection that remains close to Diamond’s heart. As the company approaches its tenth anniversary in 2026, the throughline has remained consistent: pieces should feel special, but never too precious. “We aim to make things you reach for again and again,” Diamond explains. “Because you’re comfortable and you look great.”
That philosophy comes to life beautifully in the new Greenwich store. Designed with a strong residential feel, the space draws inspiration from classic interiors, layered with thoughtful vignettes that invite customers to slow down and explore. One standout detail sits behind the cashwrap: an arched china cabinet filled with Villeroy & Boch Petit Fleur plates—an unexpected, charming moment that feels both personal and timeless.

Given Greenwich’s strong residential character, Diamond wanted to create something extra special for the home collection. Toward the back of the store, shoppers will discover an upholstered bed dressed in a custom recolored version of Hill House’s Vine Stripe print. Only the second store in the brand’s fleet to feature a bed, following Charleston. It’s a discovery moment that feels intimate and joyful. “It genuinely makes me so happy every time I see it,” Diamond says. Greenwich itself felt like a natural next step. With a loyal customer base throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties, the location allows Hill House to connect with its community in real life. There’s also a familiar overlap with the brand’s seasonal Nantucket and Palm Beach clientele, reinforcing a shared lifestyle sensibility. For Diamond personally, the convenience matters too. “I love spending the day in our stores,” she notes. “Being able to hop on Metro-North and be there so quickly has been lovely.”

For those discovering Hill House for the first time, Diamond recommends starting with the Nap Dress, the brand’s unmistakable signature. Next, the Hotel Robe, a longtime bestseller especially popular during the holidays, offers everyday luxury and personalization through monogramming. And for those drawn to fashion-forward pieces, the newly launched Resort Capsule delivers effortless elegance. Diamond’s personal favorite, the Becca Dress, features white lace with a subtle metallic sheen and is perfect for dinner with platform sandals or thrown over a swimsuit as a chic cover-up.
As Hill House Home opens its Greenwich doors, the excitement is palpable, not just for the brand, but for the community welcoming it. Rooted in comfort, beauty, and thoughtful design, Hill House feels right at home on Greenwich Avenue. And for Nell Diamond, it’s a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful destinations are the ones that bring you back to where it all began.
Founded in 2016 by Nell Diamond, Hill House Home is a modern lifestyle brand known for its iconic Nap Dress®, elevated home goods, and timeless design. The Greenwich store is located at 117 Greenwich Avenue and marks a meaningful return to the brand’s Connecticut roots.

Steeped in Midtown Manhattan history, The Benjamin stands as a beacon of classic New York City elegance. Built in the 1920s, this landmark reflects the early evolution of New York skyscraper style and was officially designated a New York City landmark in 2017 for its cultural and architectural significance. The Benjamin has since been thoughtfully restored to honor its storied past while embracing modern comfort and design. Today, the hotel offers luxurious rooms with a welcoming sense of place that feels more like a refined home away from home. Guests can further unwind at the Royal Reflection Wellness Spa, where restorative treatments provide a serene counterbalance to the city’s pace. Anchoring the experience is The Parliament, the hotel’s modern American restaurant, blending polished service with a distinctly New York energy. www.nyc.sonesta.com/the -benjamin
Score big on Super Bowl Sunday with these winning recipes from Feast and Merriment.

The Super Bowl is about four things: football, friends, family, and food. And what’s better than that?! When you’re hosting, the goal is to keep things easy—mixing hot and cold dishes so you’re not stuck in the kitchen, and prepping ahead so the day feels relaxed and fun rather than rushed. When planning, focus on bold flavors, good contrast, and dishes that hold up well on the table.
Finger foods are ideal for this kind of gathering because they invite grazing and keep the energy casual. A mix of familiar favorites like guacamole and spinach artichoke dip, alongside unexpected standouts like hot beer cheese dip—kept warm in a mini slow cooker—and irresistible Chinese sticky wings, creates a spread everyone keeps coming back to. Ingredients:
• 3 lb chicken wings
• 1/2 tsp toasted sesame oil.
• 2 tbsp Shaoxing wine, Mirin, or dry sherry
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
• 2 tbsp brown sugar or honey
• 1 1/2 tbsp hoisin sauce
• 1 1/2 tbsp oyster sauce
• 1/4 cup ketchup
• 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tbsp ginger, finely grated
• 1/2 tsp five spice powder
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350°F and pat dry the wings with paper towel and set aside. Combine all the remaining ingredients in a bowl and mix well. In a separate bowl marinate the chicken wings with half the marinade, reserving the remaining amount for basting. Marinate the wings for 30 minutes and no more than 1 hour.
One by one, shake off any excess marinade and place the marinated wings on a tin foil lined baking tray - preferably with a raised grid that has been sprayed with non-stick oil (the grid helps with air circulation and crisping).
Bake for 25 minutes then baste and flip the wings. Bake for 10 more minutes and baste again. Then, after 10 more minutes, flip and baste one final time for a total cooking time of 45-50 minutes. The meat should be falling off the bones easily. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds, if desired.

Ingredients:
• 3 ripe large avocados
• 2 tbsp fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
• ¼ cup finely diced red onion
• 1 small garlic clove, grated or very finely minced
• 1 small jalapeño, seeded and minced (optional, to taste)
• 2 tbsp fresh cilantro, finely chopped.
• 1½ tsp kosher salt (plus more to taste)
Directions:
Halve and pit the avocados, then scoop into a bowl. Mash gently with a fork, leaving some texture. Stir in lime juice, onion, jalapeño, cilantro, salt, and garlic.
Taste and adjust salt and lime as needed.
Serve immediately, or press plastic wrap directly onto the surface to prevent browning.
Helpful Tips:
Use ripe—but not soft—avocados
They should yield slightly to pressure without feeling mushy.
Season early, taste often
Salt brings out the avocado flavor; adjust lime and salt gradually.
Mash by hand, not a processor
A fork keeps the texture fresh and rustic, not gummy.
Add lime juice right away It brightens flavor and helps slow browning.

Ingredients:
• 2 tbsp unsalted butter
• 3 tbsp flour
• 1 cup whole milk
• ½ cup beer (lager style recommended)
• 1½ cup sharp cheddar cheese - freshly grated, not packaged
• ½ cup gruyere cheese- freshly grated
• ¼ tsp paprika
• ¼ tsp garlic
• ½ tsp dijon mustard
• ½ tsp kosher salt
• Pretzel nuggets, tortilla chips, or crusty bread for dipping
Directions:
In a small sauce pan, gently heat the milk until warm but not boiling.
Meanwhile, in a medium sized saucepan, heat the unsalted butter over medium heat and whisk in the butter to make a roux. Cook the flour and butter for about two minutes.
Slowly whisk in the warm milk, adding a small amount at a time, until all the milk has been added and combined into a smooth texture. Slowly whisk in the beer. Bring to a gentle simmer, whisking often for about 5 minutes or until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon
Reduce the heat to low and whisk in the seasonings, then add the grated cheese one handful at a time, whisking until fully melted. Taste for seasoning. Serve in a warm bowl or mini crock pot with sides such as warm pretzel nuggets (found in the freezer section of most grocery stores), sliced sausage, crusty bread cubes, or tortilla chips.
Helpful Tips:
Grate your own cheese. Pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that can make the dip grainy.
Low heat is key. Gentle heat keeps the dip smooth; high heat can cause the cheese to seize or separate. Keep it warm, not hot. A mini slow cooker or insulated serving bowl keeps the dip perfect for hours. If it thickens, thin it. A splash of beer or milk brings it right back to dipping consistency.

BY TANYA MEYERS, FASHION STYLIST AND PERSONAL SHOPPER, FOUNDER OF MODET
ARTICLE BY TANYA MEYERS

Hi, it’s Tanya from ModeT, your fashion stylist. Every Valentine’s Day, I hear the same thing from clients: “I have nothing to wear.” And almost every time, that isn’t actually true. Most women already have what they need. The challenge is knowing which pieces do the most work, and how to put them together so it feels special, but not like you’re trying too hard.
It’s also the middle of winter, which means coats, real shoes, and plans that move fast. Whether you’re doing a dinner reservation, a Galentine’s plan, a low-key night in, or you just want to feel more put-together that day, here are the Valentine’s staples I rely on, plus easy ways to make them feel fresh.
1. A great blazer (yes, even for Valentine’s plans)
A great blazer instantly polishes an outfit, even if what’s underneath is simple. I love it over a silk top or sweater with dark denim, or over a dress to make it feel less “done” and more modern. It’s also one of the easiest ways to look intentional while staying warm.
Styling tip: If it reads too office, push the sleeves up slightly and add a bold earring or a clean stack of bracelets. One more trick, swap your everyday tote for a smaller bag. It changes the whole mood.
2. The elevated top that does not feel fussy
Have one top that feels special but not precious. Think silk, satin, a beautiful knit, or a clean neckline detail that frames your face. This is the piece that turns “I threw this on” into “I actually planned this.”
Styling tip: Choose fabric and fit over trends. If you want it to feel romantic without screaming Valentine’s, lean into texture, satin, lace trim, a soft knit, or a subtle sheen that catches low light.

• Dinner: blazer + elevated top + dark denim + boots + statement earrings.
• Dressy: simple dress + statement coat + walkable shoes + bold jewelry.
• Cozy: cashmere knit + relaxed denim or wide-leg pants + slippers or flat mules + necklace
• . 5-second upgrade: richer lip, subtle shimmer, or switch up your hair.
“I hear the same thing from clients: ‘I have nothing to wear.’ And almost every time, that isn’t actually true. Most women already have what they need.”

3. Dark, well-fitting denim or polished pants
You do not need a dress to look dressed up. A great pair of dark jeans or tailored pants can feel just as date-ready. The key is fit, sitting well at the waist and skimming the leg so it looks clean, not clingy. That smooth line is what makes the whole outfit feel elevated.
Styling tip: With jeans, keep the top and accessories a bit more refined, think a beautiful top, sleek jewelry, and a smaller bag. With tailored pants, you can go softer up top, like a beautiful knit or a drapey blouse. If you’re going out to dinner, choose a waistband that feels comfortable sitting down.
4. A shoe you can actually walk in
Shoes set the tone of the whole look. For Valentine’s Day, wear a shoe you can walk in confidently, like a sleek boot, a block heel, or a pointed flat. Comfort matters, because if you’re distracted by your shoes, you’re not enjoying the night.
Styling tip: Boots are often the most flattering February choice. If you do a heel, keep it simple and stable, and do a quick walk test at home before you commit.
5. Statement jewelry that finishes the look
Jewelry is my favorite shortcut. When an outfit feels “fine but not finished,” jewelry is usually the answer. A bold necklace, sculptural earrings, or one standout ring instantly makes it feel styled and personal.
Styling tip: Valentine’s outfits look best when one detail sets the mood. Pick one hero piece, a statement earring, a pendant with a little shine, or a great ring, and keep the rest clean. If your top has neckline detail, do earrings. If your top is simple, that’s when a necklace shines.
6. A coat you do not want to take off
Your coat is part of the outfit, especially on Valentine’s Day in February. It’s what you’re wearing on the way in, while you’re waiting for the table, and sometimes in that quick photo outside. If the coat doesn’t work, the look can fall flat before you even get inside.
Styling tip: If your outfit is minimal, let your outerwear be the statement, it’s an easy way to add that Valentine’s “special” feeling. And think about balance: a bulky coat over a bulky sweater can feel heavy. A clean coat over a softer top looks chic and effortless. When you feel like you have nothing to wear, do this first
Before you shop, do what I do with clients: treat your closet like a quick styling session. Try one switch you wouldn’t normally make and see how fast your outfit turns into a look:
• Swap your usual sweater for your most elevated top
• Add a belt to a dress you already own to change the shape
• Switch the shoe, boots instead of heels, or heels instead of flats
• Put on bold jewelry where you normally keep it minimal
This is the moment I see clients relax. Half the time, we do not need new clothes, we just need to style what is already there. And if you want it done quickly, without the trial-and-error spiral, that is where having a stylist’s eye makes it easy.
If you truly are missing a staple, shop smart and local
Start with big stores when you want easy brand variety and return policies that make life simpler, like Bloomingdale’s White Plains, Nordstrom at The Westchester, or Saks Greenwich. If you’re unsure, buy two sizes, try everything on at home with your shoes, and return what doesn’t feel right. Also, check local boutiques too, they often have a more interesting edit and pieces that feel more unique.
The goal is to invest in something you will wear again and again, not just for one night. If you’re filling a true wardrobe gap, I’d prioritize in this order: a great blazer, an elevated top, a shoe you can walk in, and a coat that feels like part of the look.
The real secret
The right outfit can change how you feel in your body and in your day. When you feel good in your clothes, your mindset shifts. You stand a little taller, you relax, you’re more present, and everything feels easier, and that’s what Valentine’s Day style should do.
That’s always my goal as a stylist. I want you to enjoy the night, because the best outfit is the one that lets you feel like yourself and makes it easier to show up fully.

DIS COVER THE VALAIS REGION OF SWITZERLAND, WHERE ALPINE TRAILS, THERMAL SPRINGS, AND LOCAL TRADITIONS CREATE RESTORATIVE TRAVEL.
In Switzerland’s Valais region, wellness and adventure are always part of the same itinerary. Morning could bring a high-alpine hike, afternoon a soak in mineral-rich springs, and evening a table set with traditional cuisine, always including delicious wine and cheese. For travelers, the best part will be finding the perfect balance between exploring the outdoors and relaxing with wellness-infused activities in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

An easy train ride from Zurich lands visitors in the Aletsch Arena, a high-alpine region on the south side of the Bernese Alps, home to three villages: Riederalp, Bettmeralp, and Fiescheralp. Known for its ski slopes in winter and hiking in summer, the area is entirely car-free, making walking and local buses the main modes of transportation through its quaint chalet-lined streets.
One of the main attractions of the ski-in/ski-out area is the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the 12-mile glacier is visible from several vantage points, shaping every experience in the area.
ARTICLE BY GABI DE LA ROSA
Located in the heart of Bettmeralp, Hotel Panorama provides no-fuss accommodations steps away from the picturesque Chapel Maria Zum Schnee. The hotel’s restaurant offers delicious regional cuisine, including raclette paired with Swiss wine. A good bottle of Pinot Noir or Gamay is also easy to come by because the Valais region of Switzerland is one of the largest wine-producing areas in the country, with vineyards dotting the steep slopes of the Rhône Valley. In addition to wine and cheese, eating cholera, a covered vegetable pie invented in the region during the cholera epidemic, is a must.

Begin at Viewpoint Moosfluh, the closest and lowest vantage point of the Aletsch Glacier. From there, trailheads lead to Villa Cassel, once the home of a British financier and now a museum focused on history and conservation. The hike passes through a thousand-yearold forest with views of both the glacier and the Matterhorn.
Walk over Goms Bridge, a nearly 1,000-foot-long suspension bridge that connects two hiking areas over the Rhône River. For a final look at the majestic glacier, take the cable car to Viewpoint Eggishorn. At nearly 10,000 feet above sea level, it offers panoramic views of the Matterhorn, Mont Blanc, Jungfraujoch, or the “Top of Europe,” and the most comprehensive view of the Aletsch Glacier.

After miles of hiking in the Aletsch Arena, it is time to relax and recharge in the mountain village of Leukerbad.
Hotel Restaurant Quellenhof Leukerbad is steps away from many of the area’s best thermal pools. The hotel also has a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner with several regional specialties.
Since the 1500s, the area has been a well-known destination for wellness and healing due to over 65 natural hot springs that
flow into the alpine village. Several public bathhouses welcome visitors year-round, including Leukerbad Therme, the largest thermal wellness resort in Europe. The family-friendly wellness center includes ten pools and a range of hot and cold plunge options. Walliser Alpentherme & Spa and Therme 51 also offer public access to the mineral-rich waters.
A hike through Dala Gorge provides beautiful mountain views while traversing a 2,000-foot suspension bridge over the Dala River. Hikers can also experience a 100-foot waterfall before the forested hiking trail leads back to Leukerbad.
The village is considered one of the most traditional and beautiful alpine settings in the country. It lacks the pretentiousness of Switzerland’s larger metropolitan areas and offers a storybook atmosphere with a friendly small-town feel. Walking through

Leukerbad reveals gorgeous chalets, small shops, bakeries, and restaurants worth exploring.
No trip to Switzerland is complete without fondue. Dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, fondue, which translates to “melt” in French, is a national dish consisting of a blend of Gruyere and Emmental cheeses. One of the oldest family-owned restaurants in Leukerbad, Restaurant Sternen offers traditional fondue along with a variety of mix-ins and dipping options. Pair the fondue with Valais wine for a celebratory meal. Restaurant Waldhaus is one of the most elevated restaurants in the village and is another family-run establishment offering a seasonal menu and over 70 different grappas to choose from.

A short train ride takes visitors to one of the largest cities in the Valais region of Switzerland. The city is a crossroads between Italy and France, with a history dating back to Roman times. Visitors can tour Roman ruins, including a well-preserved amphitheater, ancient settlements, and Roman baths.
Martigny Boutique Hotel is minutes from the train station and is one of the few establishments in the city employing people with disabilities. The light and bright hotel provides a comfortable base for exploring the city.

Take the steepest funicular in the world, the Mont-Blanc Express, on a scenic ascent through the Alps. The funicular connects to a smaller train that leads to the Trient Valley on the French-Swiss border, where, at the top, a full day of activity begins. Hiking, biking, zip-lining, or traversing the Emosson Dam, which straddles France and Switzerland, are all options. The crystal clear blue waters of Emosson Lake are perfect for a picnic or a break between adventures.
Back in Martigny, Barryland, the only theme park in the world dedicated to St. Bernard dogs, offers a look at the history of the dog, bred by monks in the 17th century for alpine rescue work. The Barry Foundation, founded in 2005, continues to preserve the breed and educate visitors about it. Guests can watch the dogs train, play, and interact as they learn about their role in the region.
Roman influence remains visible across the city, including at Les Bains Publics at Hotel Borsari, where visitors can soak in cement wine barrels located in the hotel’s spa. The baths sit on the site of a former wine tank factory and offer a circuit of hot and cold pools in a historically inspired, wine-colored setting.
