Tinsel, Toy Drives, and One Sleek Sleigh Upgrade

The holidays are here, and I spent this month in a warehouse full of elves. Not literal elves (well, maybe), but the longtime volunteers of Elf Louise who work behind the scenes to make some pretty magical things happen.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what joy looks like in bulk, it’s rows of donated toys, ribbon flying, and grown adults grinning while wrapping bikes with Santa hats on. These volunteers have been showing up for decades. No spotlight. No Pay. No big thank-you banners. Just pure, heart-forward kindness. Honestly, it made my chest ache in the best way!

And while we’re talking about things that made my heart grow three sizes, I also got to hang with Allison Craig from San Antonio in a Box. Y’all, she’s basically a local gift wizard! We pulled together the best hometown goodies for every name on your list. Think thoughtful, fun, and zero risk of being re-gifted.

Now if you’re dreaming a little bigger this year (like, four-wheels-and-a-bowon-top bigger) North Park Lexus gave us a peek at the 2026 Lexus TX, and let’s just say, this ride belongs on a holiday movie set. It’s sleek, it’s smart, and it’s definitely sleigh-adjacent.

But here’s your gentle reminder: your people don’t need a Lexus or a perfect tree or cookies that look like Martha Stewart made them. They just need you . The real you. The one who’s trying. The one who’s tired but still showing up. The one who means it when they say I love you at the end of a chaotic phone call.

This issue is your permission slip to slow down, light something that smells like nostalgia, and remember that your presence is the gift.

Big hugs, loud laughs, and maybe a little mistletoe mischief,

Steeped in Holiday Magic

Christmas parties are even more magical when shared over tea. At La TEAda, families gather for an afternoon of laughter, fancy hats, and treats served on delicate china. Little ones sip cocoa or sweet tea beside their moms, grandmas, and friends, creating memories that feel straight out of a holiday storybook. A Little Box of San Antonio Joy

INSIDE EVERY SAN ANTONIO IN A BOX IS A TASTE OF HOME, A BIT OF HEART, AND A WHOLE LOT OF LOCAL LOVE.

ARTICLE BY ALLISON CRAIG
PHOTOGRAPHY BY COURTNEY WARDEN PHOTOGRAPHY

San Antonio in a Box began with one simple idea: gifts should feel personal. What started as a small way to share hometown favorites has grown into a go-to for thoughtful, meaningful gifting. Each box celebrates the city’s makers, featuring smallbatch sweets, spicy salsas, handcrafted soaps, savory snacks, and artisan treats, all beautifully packaged and ready to send.

Founder Allison Craig curates every collection with care, making it easy to share San Antonio’s warmth across the miles. Each detail reflects heart, creativity, and unmistakable local pride.

Shoppers can choose a pre-selected box or build their own, add a personal note, and let the team handle the rest. The packaging is polished, the shipping seamless, and every box captures the flavor and soul of the city. Businesses love San Antonio in a Box for client and team gifts, while families use it to surprise loved ones near and far. Each purchase supports the local makers who give our city its charm, helping traditions stay alive and sending a little piece of home wherever it goes.

San Antonio Fudge safudgeco.com

This holiday season, elevate your gifting with something as thoughtful as it is indulgent. Founded by a mother-andson team with more than forty years of confectionery experience, San Antonio Fudge Co. is guided by a dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and modern luxury. Every product is handmade in small batches right here in San Antonio, ensuring each bite feels personal, elegant, and unforgettable.

Their signature Fudge Blocks are the heart of the collection, featuring rich, velvety fudge topped with silky chocolate and intricate designs. For those who love a taste of Texas, the Cowboy Fudge Block is a longtime fan favorite, perfectly balancing walnuts, marshmallows, and smooth chocolate fudge. Each piece is beautifully packaged and designed to impress, whether it is a personal treat or a holiday gift meant to share.

Their fudge-filled truffles and decadent Fudge Spreads make irresistible additions to any celebration, from stockings and dessert tables to client gifts and cozy nights in. The limited holiday lineup brings back beloved seasonal flavors, including Peppermint and Chocolate Pecan, available as both fudge blocks and truffles.

For an extra touch of holiday cheer, the Texas-themed Advent Calendar offers twenty-four handcrafted truffles, each one a delicious daily surprise in the countdown to Christmas. Every flavor captures the joy of the season, crafted with care, sweetness, and just the right amount of nostalgia.

Whether you are shopping for family, friends, or business partners, San Antonio Fudge Co. turns gifting into an experience that feels indulgent, heartfelt, and unmistakably local. From the first bite to the last, each creation is a reminder that simple pleasures, when made with love, never go out of style.

What began as a converted Exxon station in 1992 has grown into one of San Antonio’s most beloved barbecue spots. Founded by Bobby Peacock and now run by his son Stewart, The Barbecue Station is known for its perfectly smoked brisket, flavorful sides, and a team that feels like family. Inside the former service bays, you’ll find locals lined up for classic Texas barbecue made the old-fashioned way—low, slow, and full of heart. Their signature sauce and rubs let fans bring that unmistakable flavor home and savor the taste of San Antonio long after the meal ends.

Rooted in San Antonio’s heritage of craftsmanship, Capistrano Soap Company continues a three-generation family tradition of soapmaking. Named after Mission San Juan Capistrano, the company began with founder Ignatz Kyrisch, whose heirloom recipes inspired the modern ACEQUIA bodycare line. Each bar is handcrafted in small batches, honoring the waterways that first sustained our city and symbolizing renewal in every product. From their studio in La Villita, Capistrano blends history, artistry, and wellness to create bodycare that feels as authentic and beautifully simple as San Antonio itself.

Local baker and cookie artist Jacqueline Smith has made Cookie’s Cookies a household name among San Antonio sweet lovers. Her custom sugar cookies are baked from scratch, hand-decorated, and almost too pretty to eat. Each one blends creativity and flavor in perfect harmony. From holiday designs to wedding favors, birthday celebrations, and business events, her cookies bring color, joy, and artistry to every occasion. Loved by locals and businesses alike, Cookie’s Cookies proves that great taste and great design are the perfect recipe for celebration.

Double Sided Toffee Co.

Founded in 2017 by Texas-born mom of four, Janessa Sullivan, Double Sided Toffee Co. began after more than a decade of perfecting her toffee recipe for family and friends who insisted it was the best they had ever tasted. What started as a homemade holiday favorite quickly grew into a thriving local business rooted in faith, generosity, and community. Every batch is handmade with care, combining buttery toffee, rich chocolate, and a perfect crunch that keeps people coming back for more. Today, Double Sided donates a portion of every sale to nonprofits including Young Life, Life Restored SA, and Any Woman Can, making every bite a gift that gives back.

Founded by mother-daughter duo Cindy and Annie Holland-Rodriguez, Caley Cosmetics is a Latinx, women-owned brand carrying on three generations of beauty expertise. Inspired by their grandmother’s legacy, they’ve built a vibrant line of natural, probiotic makeup and skincare designed to make clean beauty feel like vacation: bright, effortless, and joyful. Every formula is created in their eco-friendly lab using high-quality ingredients that nurture the skin while delivering radiant results. From colorful packaging to playful product names, Caley Cosmetics celebrates confidence, creativity, and self-care, proving that beauty can be simple, safe, and fun while still feeling luxurious and full of personality.

Founded in 2019 by UTSA alumna and entrepreneur Marcie Anguiano, Mission Crafts Chandlery has quickly become one of San Antonio’s most beloved destinations for fragrance lovers and gift seekers alike. Marcie’s vision was simple: to create a hands-on scent experience that brings people together through candles and beautifully crafted goods designed to inspire connection, creativity, and calm.

Before launching her business, Marcie spent more than a decade in corporate event planning for companies such as TJX, Inc., where she honed her eye for detail and her ability to craft memorable experiences. That background in

Mission Crafts Chandlery

storytelling through design now shapes every part of Mission Crafts, from the ambiance of the studio to the curated collection of candles, soaps, and artisan gifts that fill its shelves.

Her creativity and leadership have earned widespread recognition, including the NAWBO Rising Star Award and features in San Antonio Magazine and Latina Woman Magazine. But what truly sets Mission Crafts apart is the way it turns candle making into an experience. Guests are invited to pour, blend, and personalize their own scents while learning the art and science behind fragrance.

The workshops often evolve into moments of laughter, reflection, and friendship, reminding guests to slow down and savor life’s simple pleasures. Whether celebrating a milestone, planning a date night, or searching for the perfect gift, visitors leave with more than a candle, they leave with a memory.

Today, Mission Crafts Chandlery continues to grow as a hub for creativity and connection, blending craftsmanship, community, and sensory joy into every product and experience. Each visit feels like a reminder to breathe deeply, live intentionally, and carry the warmth of San Antonio wherever you go.

THE MAGIC OF GIVING

THROUGH LOVE, GENEROSITY, AND THE DEDICATION OF VOLUNTEERS, THE ELF LOUISE CHRISTMAS PROJECT HELPS MAKE CHRISTMAS BRIGHTER FOR FAMILIES IN NEED.

Christmas can be a magical and joy-filled time. But for some families, financial challenges make it impossible to have presents under the tree. Thanks to generous community donations and the hard work of dedicated volunteers, the Elf Louise Christmas Project brings gifts to thousands of families in San Antonio every year, helping those children wake up to a happier Christmas morning.

The Elf Louise Christmas Project began in 1969, when Trinity University student Louise Locker felt there was a lack of Christmas spirit in her life. She wanted to do something to change that while also helping people. As someone who knew what it was like to grow up with a limited income, she wanted to provide Christmas presents for kids who may not receive them otherwise. With the postmaster’s permission, Louise read the undeliverable letters to Santa and provided gifts to 13 of those families. It was such a meaningful experience for everyone involved that Louise repeated it the next year. That small act of kindness has grown into the San Antonio holiday tradition known as the Elf Louise Christmas Project.

Executive Director and long-time volunteer Karen Gordon told me that Elf Louise is an organization “based on hope, faith, and a belief in people’s goodness.” The Christmas gifts that are given to the children and families of San Antonio in need “promote emotional well-being, instill a sense of belonging, and reinforce values of kindness, caring, and community.”

Elf Louise is completely run by volunteers. Thirty-four people work year-round, coming in several days a week to keep the operation running. Some volunteers have been with the project for over 30 years, including one who has wrapped gifts and delivered presents for 40 years. In October, the pace picks up, and the core group of year-round volunteers start putting in even more hours to prepare for Christmas. That’s also when other seasonal

volunteers start to appear, helping with gift wrapping, stocking toys, and unloading crates.

Most of the gifts distributed by Elf Louise are purchased with donations from individuals and business sponsors. They also receive many gifts from local businesses that host Toy Drops. Donations from Elf Louise’s Amazon and Walmart wish lists help round out the presents needed.

Everything at Elf Louise is a team effort, and that includes finding the families who will receive gifts. Over 200 social service agencies, churches, schools, and community organizations partner with Elf Louise to identify families in need and guide them through the application and approval process. They are an integral part of making sure Elf Louise reaches the families that need their help the most.

In 2024, Elf Louise provided gifts to 5,500 families, including nearly 18,000 children. Since the project’s inception, close to one million children have received presents from the Elf Louise Christmas Project.

That incredible impact on our city takes a massive effort, and there are many ways people can help. A great way to start is by spreading the word about Elf Louise, including on social media. Listen and donate during the WOAI 1200 Radiothon on December 13 and 14. Visit their website at www.elflouise.org for a variety of ways to donate money and purchase toys from their wish lists. Every contribution is appreciated, but gifts for older children and teens are especially helpful, as these tend to be more expensive. Businesses can host a Toy Drop or become sponsors. Every type of contribution helps Elf Louise’s mission of providing joy to families in need.

If you would like to volunteer at Elf Louise headquarters, sign up on the website or consider becoming part of that year-round group of core volunteers. Many of them have been with Elf Louise for decades, and it is time for them to train the next generation to deliver Christmas magic for many years to come.

Volunteers say the excitement and gratitude they see when families receive their presents are what bring them back to help each year. “The joy of seeing a child’s face light up, or hearing a parent’s heartfelt thank you, fuels their dedication year after year,” Executive Director Karen Gordon said. This cycle of giving is most profoundly seen when former gift recipients of The Elf Louise Christmas Project return as volunteers later in life, often bringing their own children and grandchildren with them to give back to an organization that gave them so much. Some of them report that the gifts they received from Elf Louise were the only ones they had that year. This is the truest expression of the Christmas spirit: the joy and love we receive from others can change our lives. And that change can transform into compassion and hope that can be shared further, uniting our community.

“ELF LOUISE IS LOOKING FOR NEW HANDS AND HEARTS TO CARRY ITS CHRISTMAS MAGIC FORWARD.”

EMBRACE THE SEASON WITH THESE HOLIDAY PARTY TIPS AND TRICKS.

Good Holiday PARTY VIBES

Just like that, it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year. And while you may still be stuffed from all the turkey, it’s time to start planning the ultimate holiday party. I’ve included some tips and tricks to make sure it is the absolute best time for your guests.

01

SETTING THE ATMOSPHERE IS CRUCIAL.

The mood is subjective to the type of party you’re having, though. This could include a tree in the corner, an advent wreath on the table, a menorah on the counter, or other decor aligning with your celebration. Either way, I personally recommend lighting a fire in the fireplace or playing a looping video of one on your television to create a festive and cozy ambiance.

02

HOLIDAY GAMES ACT AS ENGAGING ENTERTAINMENT.

I once played a game where little trinkets from the Dollar Tree were wrapped in a massive ball of plastic wrap, and guests had 30 seconds to unwrap as much as possible before passing it to the next guest, claiming the unwrapped trinkets as their prize. It definitely gets the adrenaline up and provokes quite a few laughs at the random items wrapped inside.

03

Whether a simple apple dip (8 oz cream cheese, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup toffee bits served with apple slices) or a festive drink, such as a cranberry Moscow Mule (2 oz vodka, 1 oz cranberry juice, 1/2 oz fresh lime juice, ginger beer, and fresh cranberries with a sprig of rosemary for garnish), serving holiday-themed food and drinks amplifies the atmosphere.

THE PLAYLIST IS, IN MY OPINION, THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF ANY HOLIDAY PARTY.

04 FOOD AND DRINKS PLAY A MASSIVE ROLE IN THE HOLIDAY PARTY SCENE.

While everyone is mingling, it is crucial to have some festive background noise. And, while the classics are well, classic, here are my go-to, more modern song choices for some great holiday fun!

• “Christmas Isn’t Cancelled (Just You)” - by Kelly Clarkson

• “Drummer Boy” - by Justin Bieber

• “Fancy Like Christmas” - by Walker Hayes

• “Hot Chocolate” - by Tom Hanks  (From the Polar Express soundtrack)

• “It’s Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries” - by Carly Rae Jepsen

• “Naughty List” - Liam Payne featuring Dixie

• “Redneck 12 Days of Christmas” - by Jeff Foxworthy

• “Stretchy Pants” - by Carrie Underwood

• “Text Me Merry Christmas” - by Straight No Chaser featuring Kristen Bell

• “The Chanukah Song” - by Adam Sandler

Now go create your own, special playlist, pour yourself a mug of eggnog, and dance the night away!

The Sleigh Reimagined

Who needs reindeer when your sleigh comes with heated seats and a third row?

You know what is better than a one-horse open sleigh? A 2026 Lexus TX with a third row you can control from the front seat.

North Park Lexus is bringing holiday sparkle early this year with the newest release of the Lexus TX, a luxury SUV that feels more like a private cabin than a car. It is sleek, refined, and now available in Matador Red, a bold color that practically begs for a red ribbon on the hood.

Inside, every detail is designed for comfort and flexibility. Choose bench seating or captain’s chairs in the second row and enjoy a third row that feels like its own retreat. Add intuitive technology,

a whisper-quiet ride, and buttery smooth handling, and even errands feel indulgent.

When you become a Lexus owner, the luxury continues long after you leave the dealership, with exclusive partnerships across the city including The Shops at La Cantera, JW Marriott San Antonio, Broadway San Antonio, and the Valero Texas Open.

Visit North Park Lexus at their San Antonio or Dominion locations this December to experience the TX for yourself and discover what quiet luxury really feels like. It is proof that the joy of the season can come with leather seats and heated steering.

Come for the cookies and chair massage. Stay for the third-row luxury.
