“HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS” WITH 6 LOCAL SHOPPING FAVORITES

There’s something magical about the holiday season in Arkansas. The crisp, cold mornings; the quiet beauty of winter; and the simple joy of gathering around a table with family. This year, we decided to do something a little different, committing to shopping locally for every single gift. It’s a small way of supporting the people and businesses that make our community so special, and it’s a reminder of the incredible options right next door.

In this December issue, we’re celebrating the businesses and organizations that give our area its heart. Take Beloved Furniture, a local table-making company that crafts pieces designed to bring families together and create a backdrop for holiday memories. We’re also shining a light on three local nonprofits doing incredible work in our community: the Jones Center, the Children’s Safety Center, and the Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas. Supporting these groups during the holiday season ensures that your generosity has a direct, meaningful impact on neighbors and families in need.
And of course, we’ve rounded up six locally-owned shops that are perfect for holiday shopping. From unique gifts to one-of-a-kind treats, these businesses make it easy to find thoughtful presents while keeping your dollars circulating right here in NWA. Shopping local isn’t just convenient: it’s a way of investing in the people and places that make our community a home.
For me, the holidays are about warmth, connection, and tradition. Walking into these local shops, meeting the people behind the businesses, and seeing the care they put into their work, reminds me why this season feels so special. I hope this issue inspires you to explore local options and celebrate the holidays with the same spirit of community and joy that makes this time of year so magical in Arkansas.

Southern Brothers Construction recently teamed up with Springdale School District to put together the new Professional Development Center on South 48th Street. This 20,800 square foot building accommodates up to 490 people, intended for large-scale training sessions, private events, workshops, and more. Having opened its doors earlier in June with the ribbon ceremony in October, this project is a testament to Springdale’s commitment to education, training, and collaboration.
Jensen Kelly is the latest addition to The Skin Clinic team, working at the front desk as she manages both the office and the social media. A familiar face in Siloam Springs, Jensen makes others’ faces glow brighter and smiles a little wider with each visit. As always, the front desk makes for the first part of the treatment and the last, where customers receive an initial impression and — at the Skin Clinic — an ultimate desire to return.

Keeping it local this Christmas season with Springdale shops and stores

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY BO SIMPSON

Eclectic, whimsical, and bohemian, Bea and Bleux lights up Emma Avenue like a vintage ornament on a field-cut fir. This cozy boutique offers everything from candles and home décor to jewelry and thoughtful trinkets: the kind of place where shopping feels more like a treasure hunt and a five minute shopping trip quickly becomes thirty. Whether it’s a stocking stuffer or a heartfelt keepsake, Bea and Bleux’s home-in-a-store vibe at once reminds us of childhood Christmas excursions and Hallmark movie immersion, with gift ideas leaping straight off the walls, over the displays, and out the nooks and crannies! Overall, this is the perfect place for gift-givers looking to surprise, tell a story, or make a last-minute purchase.
At Hello Local, shoppers discover a minimalist space that spotlights local artisans and their craft. Mark Cloud created this space for NWA creators, such that Hello Local could be a storefront for them and provide the rest of us an opportunity to purchase something close to home, and therefore close to our hearts. Here you can find handmade soaps, candles, jams, prints, and small-batch goods, each telling a story of homegrown creativity that feels just right under our Christmas trees. Every purchase supports local makers, every item feels intentional, and every scent, color, or texture reminds us that the best gifts are made right here in Springdale.
Bella’s Gifts unavoidably brings its bright and colorful personality to the table with each visit, making this holiday season the ideal time to reel in its festive spirit! A Springdale favorite, this shop offers customized and ornamental items that say, “Look no further — the perfect gift is right here.” A selection of baby items, footwear, jewelry, women’s clothing, and other accessories ensure that at least one present awaits a loved one between these walls. With friendly customer service, seasonal decorations, and in-house gift wrapping, Bella’s Gifts represents Springdale’s signature touch with a little extra sparkle.

At Koda and Company in Tontitown, pets are more than companions — they’re family. This charming shop offers everything your furry friends could dream of, from freshly baked pet treats and fun toys to stylish harnesses, bandanas, and top-quality food. It’s a space filled with warmth, care, and personality, where each product is chosen with a pet’s happiness in mind. Whether you’re shopping for your own four-legged friend or a devoted animal-lover in your life, Koda and Company makes finding holiday gifts a tail-wagging experience.
Beyond Urban in Tontitown brings together style with personality in a boutique prioritizing fashion over trends. Shoppers will find a thoughtfully curated mix of chic apparel, standout accessories, and must-have cosmetics: everything from cozy outerwear and sleek dresses to statement jewelry that completes the look you’re going for. Each piece is selected to help you feel confident, current, and effortlessly put together, whether you’re heading out for a Razorback game or a night on the town. For the trendsetter or fashion lover on your holiday list, Beyond Urban offers an ideal blend of style and spirit.
Creativity meets pure fun at Hey! It’s a Shop. Situated along Emma Avenue, this colorful spot is packed with art supplies, original artwork, pop culture necessities, and quirky finds that you never could’ve started with in mind. Each visit feels like a small adventure, every corner divulges something new, and by golly there’s that nostalgia again! Whether you’re hunting for a don’t-know-it’til-you-see-it for a friend or you’re simply browsing for inspiration, everyone’s susceptible to stumbling upon a gift that feels personal, playful, and full of character — especially by accident.

BIBB
• 22 gauge wire
• Ornaments of at least 3 varying shades and sizes
• Wire snips
Cut desired length of wire for a cluster, about 24”
Add an ornament about 4” from one end of the wire and twist the wire around the top of the ornament to provide a base for your cluster. Twist about 5 times. You should still have about 4” of wire at the end; you will need it to tie onto your garland, tree, or wreath.
Continue adding ornaments to the wire, alternating sizes and colors until you have 4-6” of wire remaining.
Twist the remaining wire around the top of your final ornament 5 times to secure all of your ornaments in place. Making sure to leave at least 4” of wire in place at the end in order to tie onto garland, tree, or wreath.
Use the ends of the wire to attach to your holiday item of choice!!

Pro tip: Keep your clusters to the 24” length to keep from getting too heavy and/or having ornaments pop off. Ornaments will pop off at times, but they will still look gorgeous and you can always glue the ornament back onto to the top. Simple, gorgeous, and impactful!

You’ve heard it said before about certain places with an antique kind of charm, whether it’s the house of a relative, a friend’s childhood home, or even someplace you only came across by chance: “If only the walls here could speak.”
What is it about physical objects — be it houses or walls or tables — that give rise to sentiments like dreams come true? Words fail to capture the feelings we have toward historical artifacts in museums and family heirlooms tucked away in the corners of grandparents’ homes, or even front and center in the dining room.
Insight, wisdom, and deep feelings of connection grow from this sense of nostalgia, especially as we experience the déjà vu of family moments we were not yet born to witness. How is it that such objects can remind us of memories we don’t have? Well, because of them, maybe we do.
That’s why Jared Breedlove started a business of making memories for others, in the form of tables as durable physically as they are in memory of conversations had, meals shared, and time spent with those we love. And while these tables are meant to bring people together in the present, their quality ensures that the same will be possible for generations to come.
The name of Jared’s company, Beloved Furniture, is meant to reflect this intention: “Tables to be loved for generations.” It’s also a play on his last name, Breedlove, since family remains central to his business.
Born and raised in Southeast Arkansas, Jared started his professional life as a forester … “About as far from this area as you can get and still be in Arkansas — ten minutes from Mississippi and Louisiana.” His work included buying wood for a paper mill,
which he used as an opportunity to get his hands on logs too big for wood pulp. From there, he would use his own sawmill to take the wood from tree to table.
Before it was called Beloved Furniture, Breedlove Woodworking (which started in 2018 out of Jared’s custom-built garage in Wilmar, Arkansas) made all kinds of household items. His interest in woodworking from a young age had inspired him to make all of the furniture for his future home. So he did, for he and his wife, Kathryn.
Over time, however, he realized that both cutting lumber and making furniture created an additional challenge of having to predict what lumber would be needed for products that might take another year or two to sell. This led him to focus solely on making furniture and selling it, rather than trying to manage both alongside woodcutting, which was unsustainable.
It was then that Jared began focusing on dining room furniture (especially tables) for the same reason he changed the company’s name to Beloved Furniture and picked up the tagline quoted above. A special kind of life happens at the dining room table, and he recognized that.
Around the same time, Jared and Kathryn had a daughter named Hazel. Together, they decided to move to Northwest Arkansas — where Kathryn was originally from — as they believed it would be the best choice for their daughter’s future.
Today, nestled between rolling hills and country woods in Elm Springs, Arkansas, sits a quaint showroom built by Jared on their family property. This land originally belonged to Kathryn’s grandparents, making their return to Northwest Arkansas a return to her childhood … and also the beginning of their daughter’s.
We spend most of our lives reflecting on experiences like childhood, which rapidly fade into memory as the present bleeds into the past. The best way we can return to those experiences does not happen through the intellect, or by the sheer will of the imagination. It often seems, moreover, like the harder we try to remember things, the more easily we forget them; or, on the other hand, the harder we try to forget, the more frustratingly we remember.
Memories are stored in the unconscious, and it’s from the unconscious that they emerge (which may be why nostalgia feels so dreamy). Places , pieces , and people are our real-life time machines, and it’s through them that we remember without even trying.
Soon after meeting Jared, I heard his receptiveness to this reality. In fact, this lies at the heart of his operation: not simply giving shape to raw material, but giving shape to the potential for memory. In that respect, Jared Breedlove makes time machines, pieces that preserve memories in their grain.
From light-hearted conversations and Christmas tidings to life-changing conversations in candlelit dark, it’s these moments that make furniture truly beloved, stained by the memory of those who once sat around it.
If only tables could speak.

Recognizing what sets the Springdale community apart, with the help of local non-profits
When thinking about community, we have to start with its most essential element: people.
And what are people? People are creatures of meaning. We make symbols, we live by them, and we share them. So communities, too, are made of symbols.
Except, what do I mean by symbols? I mean everything: from words, to art, to music, all those things that make us distinctly human. Our decorations, ornaments, holidays, stories, family titles, traditions — all are symbols we use to understand and recognize each other apart from and in relation to ourselves.
It follows, then, that our communities become defined by the symbols most resonant to our collective attention. The themes we gravitate toward and values we uphold together make us something more than mere individuals. We become a collection of people, united in something more: a community.
In Springdale, what is it that unites us? What sets us apart from hundreds of thousands of other communities in the world?
My answer is simple. Springdale Gives. Now, this may seem a bit clichéd. It may sound like something every other community could say about themselves. After all,
ARTICLE BY BO SIMPSON
PHOTOGRAPHY BY JONES CENTER AND JOHNNY B PHOTOGRAPHY
what kind of community can thrive if its people are unwilling to give to each other?
When I say this about Springdale, however, I mean something different. The culture of giving here, formed between the outskirts of Johnson, Tontitown, Elm Springs, Lowell, and Sonora, extends beyond those boundaries to Fayetteville, Rogers, Bentonville, and the world over.
Here in Springdale, locality attracts and gives back its attention to the world, so that in giving to itself it truly gives to all. Here exists a cosmopolitan bubble where community means family, and family means everyone. This melting pot of Italians, Hispanics, Pacific Islanders, and Southerners represents what happens when people see and respect each other as people, wishing for one another what they would wish for themselves.

One of the ways this can be seen most clearly is through our local non-profits. Three worth highlighting in this article are as follows: the Jones Center, the Children’s Safety Center (CSC), and the Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas (HWOA).
The Jones Center represents Springdale’s heartbeat of service. It is both a symbol and an engine of giving, offering free or low-cost recreation, education, and nonprofit workspace; an all-in-one depiction of our city’s initiative to share space and purpose with all of its families, kids, and nonprofits. The Jones Center reveals that communities are stronger when they band together, and that by serving each other they may reach beyond boundaries of time and place.
The Children’s Safety Center views healing as a way of giving. In

its collaboration with law enforcement, doctors, therapists, and more, this center shows that true generosity surpasses finances. It taps into the roots of compassion as a deeply personal and active state of being, one that sits with the most vulnerable and shares time, expertise, and care to help them recover from abuse.
Last but not least, the Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas gives by hearing our community’s multicultural voice. Built by and for the community, it provides educational opportunities through scholarships and leadership training. Overall, the HWOA gives the gift of opportunity for Hispanic first-generation students, women, and families, helping them strive upward through collective empowerment.
All in all, whether it’s walking down Emma Avenue or strolling around the Springdale square, something feels unique and fresh in the air. That distinction to me has become clear: Springdale Gives.
