CITY, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY

Retire with peace of mind.

When it comes to your retirement, nothing is more important than peace of mind. That’s why we designed our all-inclusive services to simplify your life — like Signature Freedom Dining and weekly housekeeping — while our live-in community managers and 24/7 concierge team give you the sense of security you need to live life on your terms.

Welcome to the Rogers City Lifestyle Family!

I am honored to present the first edition of the Rogers City Lifestyle publication. My name is Macye Reynolds and I want to share a little bit about myself and Rogers City Lifestyle with you.

I grew up in a suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma and earned a degree in Strategic Communications from Oklahoma State University. Shortly after graduating, my husband, Brock, started his career with Walmart, and we were so excited about the opportunity to move to Northwest Arkansas. It didn’t take us very long to fall in love with everything Rogers had to offer.

I am blessed with this opportunity to serve, help, and connect businesses and individuals in our community.

Rogers City Lifestyle is more than just a publication; we are a community-driven endeavor built on the enthusiasm, talent, and insights of people who are passionate about our community. Whether you have lived in Rogers your whole life, are a curious newcomer, or someone in between, this magazine is designed to inspire, educate, and connect you with our community.

In each issue, you can expect a diverse range of content—from in-depth articles and interviews to stunning photography and creative expressions—all curated to reflect the vibrant spirit of our community. Our contributors are dedicated to bringing you the best stories.

I am incredibly excited to embark on this journey with you. Rogers City Lifestyle aims to be your go-to source for all things Rogers, Arkansas and a platform where your voice can be heard. We encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas, and stories with us, as your contributions will help shape future editions.

Thank you for joining us on this adventure. I hope you find as much joy in reading this magazine as we have in creating it. Together, we can build a thriving community that celebrates and nurtures the love we have for our city!

Cheers,

September 2024

A CLOSER LOOK

Go Pokes!

I graduated from Oklahoma State University; I bleed orange! As many do, I changed my major 4 times before landing on Strategic Communications, which I went on to get my degree in.

Our Local Delicacies

Rogers not only found a place in our hearts, it also found a place in our bellies. Some of our favorite spots around town include: Yeyo’s, Big Orange, and The Rail.

Hitched

My husband and I grew up only 10 minutes apart and my uncle even took out his wisdom teeth, but we never crossed paths until college. This year we will be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary.

Becoming Locals

Brock and I have made Rogers home where we have since adopted our puppy, Archie!

Favorite Pastimes

Rogers is so diverse in the activities it has to offer, whether that be a walk around Lake Atalanta, an afternoon sunbathing on Beaver Lake, or a notso-casual game of pickleball at Mount Hebron park.

“BECAUSE IT’S YOUR HAIR”

THE ROLE CONTINUING EDUCATION PLAYS IN THE CULTURE OF SALON H. ROSS

“Experience is the best teacher.” This statement made by Julius Caesar over two thousand years ago has remained prevalent throughout the ages due to its striking candor. Hillari Ross, the owner of Salon H. Ross in Rogers, is a devout disciple of this adage and uses its wisdom as the foundation for the culture of her salon.

ARTICLE BY BROCK REYNOLDS & HILLARI ROSS | PHOTOGRAPHY BY @STORI.PHOTOS

Beauty is an ever-evolving, fast-paced industry. With new trends and techniques constantly emerging, the ability to adapt is quintessential. When Hillari entered the industry twenty years ago, she quickly realized that she needed to embrace change. Salon H. Ross first opened its doors in 2016 and Hillari promptly gained a reputation of excellence and professionalism. The salon began to grow rapidly and Hillari began adding stylists to her team. “When I hired my first stylist, everything changed for me and the salon.” She soon discovered a new passion for mentoring

and developing new and talented stylists. Over the years, Hillari has made significant investments toward her own professional education to keep her on the cutting edge of the industry. She now strives to pass this knowledge on to her team. “It is such a gift to be able to give my assistants not only hands-on education and daily training, but also to help guide them past pitfalls that I have experienced in my career,” reflects Hillari.

There is no greater reward for Hillari than to see an assistant flourish and grow into a confident and skilled hairstylist.

“We develop skilled stylists by nurturing their talents and providing ongoing education.”

She understands and adheres to the belief that the success of her team reflects her own success as a leader. Under Hillari’s guidance, stylists at Salon H. Ross provide quality services while gaining hands-on experience in new techniques. This approach not only accelerates the stylists' mastery of their craft but also helps them cultivate their own unique style and boost their confidence, thus equipping them to carry on the salon’s legacy of excellence. Hilari says, “Watching the stylists achieve their goals, seeing their skills and confidence grow, and encouraging them to hone in on the specialty they love is so rewarding.” As she cultivated her team,

she was astounded by the value they reciprocated back to her. The atmosphere at Salon H. Ross evolved from competitive to creative. With this culture change, the whole experience at the salon elevated not only for her and her stylists, but also for their clients as well. “Working with my assistants has been a symbiotic learning experience”, said Hillari. “While I have shared my knowledge and techniques, they have taught me the importance of fresh perspectives and adaptability.” The enthusiasm and innovative attitude of each stylist is infectious and empowers Hillari to stay curious and open to new trends every day. Collaboration and the

significance of each voice is the heart and soul of her salon because it enables each team member to be impactful in their own way. Each stylist provides unique insights that challenge Hillari to grow not only as a stylist, but as a leader. “If anyone is considering hiring an assistant stylist, go for it, because you won’t regret it.” Salon H. Ross views each client as an opportunity to touch the life of another person in a positive way. This attitude provides a superior service and raises the standards for the entire hairstyling community. It is not surprising that Salon H. Ross has received multiple awards, including the “Best of NWA” accolade. They merit their success to the combined effort and spirit of every member of the team. Salon H. Ross is trailblazing the way toward a bright future and contributing to the next generation of exceptional hair stylists. “Because it’s your hair.”

FINDING A TOUCH OF GLAM IN EVERYDAY DESIGN

ARTICLE BY ALLISON GIBESON | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
HGTV star shares her secrets to make a home look both beautiful and livable.

Tamara Day, star of HGTV’s Bargain Mansions, describes her style as “laid-back luxe.”

“I am a mom of four, and I like pretty, shiny things,” Tamara says. “The two don’t always mix well. I design with lifestyle and family in mind but with that touch of glam.”

This mixture of practicality and flare can be accomplished throughout the home on a budget, Tamara says.

When it comes to the kitchen, she says replacing the backsplash is one of the most cost-effective ways to refresh the room. Additionally, she says paint is the most inexpensive option to update cabinets, and there is a de-glosser on the market that will reduce the labor involved by helping paint adhere to cabinets.

“You can get a whole new kitchen with some fresh paint,” Tamara says.

In the bathroom, Tamara suggests putting up new light fixtures and wallpaper for a fresh look. She suggests using wallpaper on just one wall to create contrast.

“Wallpaper transforms everything and puts in a hominess factor,” Tamara says.

To give a new feel to the living room, Tamara suggests using decorative pillows as well as displaying design books and layering with a candle or other interesting object to create a sentimental focal point. She also suggests investing in good, quality sofas

and rugs because less expensive options will not typically withstand the amount of wear and tear they receive from a family.

Overall, Tamara says there is a balance between mixing expensive and inexpensive items and materials around the home, all without having it looking cluttered. She says every space needs something that is thrifted.

Tamara finds many people enjoy elements of different types of styles and have a hard time defining their personal style. To help narrow down to a preferred look, she suggests taking a hundred room images and sorting them into piles of likes and dislikes. She says when someone completes this exercise, they typically find a theme to their preferences.

MAKING COLOR, TEXTURE AND PATTERN STAND OUT

Tamara has a natural eye for using great colors and textures in design. What is her approach to making a room look great?

HERE ARE TAMARA’S TOP TIPS:

Find a base color with pops of other colors.

“Every room needs a touch of black and a pop of color,” Tamara says. “The black will anchor it, but the color will give it life.”

If the home is urban, she suggests more bold pops. If it is a traditional home, use a mixture of colors. Additionally, she suggests using one basic color throughout a home with pops of other colors as opposed to having a different color in each room.

Consider wallpaper.

“Wallpaper can be scary for a lot of people, but there are so may wallpapers out there that are removable,” Tamara says.

Tamara says wallpaper adds texture and warmth, and she includes it in most of the homes she designs.

Layer with baskets, blankets and greenery. All three make a room feel cozy and add color and interest to a space.

DIY GOLD LEAF JEWELRY DISHES

supplies you’ll need:

• Wooden bowls, trays, etc.

• Gold leaf (or metallic gold paint)

• Gentle Gold leaf brush

• Mod podge (or gold leaf adhesive)

• Acrylic paint

• Paint brushes

• Painters tape (optional)

steps to do:

• Grab a wooden bowl, some acrylic paint, and a brush.

• Hand paint some paint on one section of the bowl.

• Let the first coat dry and paint another two to three coats of paint until you’re happy with the result.

• Let the paint fully dry.

• I wanted my gold leaf paper to overlap the paint for a layered look, so I took a paint brush and painted some Mod Podge in an overlapping pattern.

• Once the Mod Podge gets tacky, use your hand to apply the gold leaf and accompanying wax sheet.

• Push the gold leaf onto the tacky glue, then remove the top layer of paper.

• Use your fingers to gently push the gold leaf onto the glue a little further.

• Next, use the gold leaf brush to smooth over the whole area and gently wipe away any excess gold leaf. Pay extra attention to the edges.

• Next, smooth the gold leaf section as much as possible, but don’t worry about any imperfections. The organic look of the gold leaf being imperfect gives the piece character.

• Next, work your way to the outer edge.

• Once the gold leaf is perfected, gently brush over the leaf with some Mod Podge to seal it to the bowl.

• Let it completely dry and enjoy!

“They’re a great and affordable gift idea for friends.”
