hiring real estate agents | serving local residents

February has always felt like a month that invites us to slow down and lean into the moments that matter most. After the fresh start of January, there’s something comforting about this season, one that encourages connection, creativity, and a little extra intention in our everyday routines.

This month, we’re bringing you a mix of content that reflects that feeling. Inside, you’ll find a craft idea and a simple recipe you can make with the kiddos, perfect for creating memories at home. We’re also sharing a local restaurant roundup to inspire your next date night or family meal, along with a getaway idea for those looking to slip away with their significant other, even if just for a change of pace.
You’ll also get a behind-the-scenes look at an organization that gives back, offering a glimpse into the heart and purpose behind the work they do. And, of course, there’s so much more woven throughout these pages, stories and ideas meant to be enjoyed slowly and revisited often.
For me, this month is a reminder that love doesn’t always show up in big gestures. Sometimes it’s found in shared meals, quiet moments, and the simple joy of being present. I hope this issue feels like a pause in your day and a small invitation to enjoy the month of love just a little more!

Arizona Broadway Theatre presents a major production of 42nd Street, the iconic Broadway musical known for its precision, scale, and relentless energy.
For the first time in years, ABT Founder, CEO, and Executive Producer Kiel Klaphake steps back onstage in the commanding role of Julian Marsh — the legendary director who demands excellence and turns potential into performance, mirroring Klaphake’s own 20 years of building and leading a large-scale professional musical theatre.
This 42nd Street features a rare alignment of talent and leadership: nationally cast performers, eight standout local actors, and choreography led by ABT’s Artistic Director Kurtis Overby — all coming together in a production built on discipline, momentum, and classic Broadway spectacle.
Driven by tap-heavy choreography and timeless songs like “Lullaby of Broadway” and “We’re in the Money,” 42nd Street delivers the joy, glamour, and scale audiences expect from a flagship production — paired with Arizona Broadway Theatre’s signature dinner-and-show experience for a complete night out.

Community support can come across very personally throughout Arizona, but there are few groups that would represent the spirit of the community as comprehensively as The Singletons do. Being a local nonprofit, The Singletons predominantly works toward serving the needs of single-parent families in dealing with cancer-not just with assistance, but with dignity, stability, and happiness in life's toughest times.

“The Singletons never forget their original mission: to be a support network of single-parent families coping with cancer, being there when they might need it most.”
The organization was founded in 2005 in memory of Michelle Singleton, a single parent who had lost her battle with cancer. Following Michelle's death, her friends, notably Jody Boyd Farley, banded together and founded The Singletons in Michelle's name, ensuring that no single parent battling cancer would ever experience this horror alone again. Today, the organization serves single parents and is a large organization serving families throughout the Phoenix Metro Area, as well as Tucson, Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, and Johnson Ranch.
The needs of the families that The Singletons cater to are indeed dire. When a person gets a cancer diagnosis, that is not in and of itself life-changing, but for a single parent, it can very well become near impossible to deal with. Sixty percent of the parents receiving services from the organization cannot work due
to the diagnosis. Seventy-five percent of the families live below the poverty level, and seventy-three percent of these families do not receive any sort of child support. This is because more than half of these families are fighting stage 4 cancer, and in over a third of these families, a child is fighting cancer as well.
This is singularly unique because the Singletons take a "whole-family approach" in reaching families valley-wide. Providing consistent offerings to alleviate stress and bring together those important family units, the organization does not simply serve as a band-aid solution, offering relief for issues as they arise each day.
For example, Singleton Kitchen helps families with healthy dinners provided by the community and done in conjunction with Dream Dinners to help families spend quality time together and not struggle about what to make for dinner.

Singleton Seeds of Strength helps families for the long haul by teaching them necessary life skills such as gardening, cooking, and money management, among others, so they can develop a healthier future together.
Singleton Bare Necessities' assistance helps families meet some of their most basic needs. The organization ensures that adults or children with life-limiting illness get the necessary home supplies such as soaps, toilet tissue, and even products that many parents take for granted. The benefits of Singleton Pockets constitute limited financial assistance to meet home bill payments such as rent or utility costs. For children, life with serious illness gets more enjoyable with the assistance provided through the organization Singleton Kids.
At the heart of the organization is the HUB, a community center where families can put cancer aside, at least for some time. This sense of belonging is among the reasons this organization is so loved in the community. The families are reminded that there is more to life than cancer. The families can focus on laughter, jokes, and hope because they are not alone in this fight. Even though The Singletons has grown this much, the need for assistance keeps on increasing annually.
The Singletons have advanced their mission in one of the most meaningful ways possible through an annual charity event held at Blackstone Country Club in Peoria. For the past 15 years, Blackstone has been a dedicated partner, helping transform what began as a one-day golf tournament into a multisport fundraising event that now includes bocce ball, pickleball, and tennis, broadening participation and increasing support for the cause.
The event was inspired by an idea from Jane Dibbern, a Blackstone Country Club member who was introduced to the organization and was looking for a way to rally the community around it. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1,000,000, including an impressive $91,000 last year alone. Organizers are currently seeking sponsors and donors, including residents and small business owners who have an opportunity to give back by sponsoring a hole in the tournament, with their support prominently recognized as a meaningful contribution to the community.

“Today, the organization serves single parents and is a large organization serving families throughout the Phoenix Metro Area, as well as Tucson, Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, and Johnson Ranch.”

Community involvement isn't complete with this one generous act. Volunteering is key to the success of The Singletons, and those interested in getting involved can do so at thesingletonsofaz.com or by calling 480-818-5285. Itemized gifts and gift cards are welcomed donations.
Recently, Blackstone extended its holiday outreach through Singleton Santas. This has ensured that joy was brought in tremendous ways to dozens of families through financial assistance and gifts over the years. Many families who would otherwise not have been able to
bring that magic Christmas joy to their families, were able to do so.
As a rule, with all the things they do and accomplish, The Singletons never forget their original mission: to be a support network of single-parent families coping with cancer, being there when they might need it most. By doing so, difficult experiences become treasured memories while reminding Arizona families that, at moments in which they count the most, they will never have to face their darkest hour alone.

An easy Valentine’s dessert that feels nostalgic, sweet, and perfectly celebratory
What makes this recipe especially fitting for Valentine’s season is its versatility. You can keep it classic with dark chocolate, go playful with sprinkles, or lean into a softer palette with white or pink chocolate. The process itself is easy and approachable, making it a great activity to share. Pressing the cereal into the pan, cutting out hearts, and drizzling chocolate creates moments that feel just as sweet as the final result.
These heart-shaped Rice Krispy treats are a reminder that love does not need to be extravagant. Sometimes it looks like taking a familiar recipe and adding a thoughtful twist. They are perfect for celebrating friendships, family, and the little moments that make February feel special.
• 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
• 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
• 1 (10 oz) bag mini marshmallows
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
• Optional sprinkles for decorating

February is the perfect month for simple treats that feel thoughtful without being complicated. Valentine’s Day especially invites a little creativity in the kitchen, but it does not need to be elaborate to feel meaningful. These heart-shaped Rice Krispy treats are a sweet nod to nostalgia, dressed up just enough to feel festive and intentional. They bring together the comfort of a classic childhood favorite with a polished look that fits beautifully into February celebrations.
There is something special about homemade treats this time of year. The familiar combination of buttery marshmallows and crispy cereal feels warm and comforting, while the heart shape instantly sets a celebratory tone. A drizzle of chocolate adds richness and visual appeal, transforming a simple snack into something giftable and party-ready. Whether you are making them with kids, preparing treats for a classroom or gathering, or packaging them up for friends and neighbors, these treats feel joyful and personal.
Lightly grease a baking pan, spatula, and heart-shaped cookie cutter. In a large saucepan over low heat, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir continuously until fully melted and smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Gently fold in the Rice Krispies cereal until evenly coated. Press the mixture into the prepared pan, taking care not to compact it too firmly. Allow it to cool slightly, then cut into heart shapes. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in short intervals, stirring until smooth. Drizzle the chocolate over the hearts and add sprinkles if desired. Let set before serving or packaging.

The Foster Alliance is built on a simple belief: when children feel loved and cared for, everything else becomes possible.
Founded in 1998, the nonprofit has grown into Arizona’s largest provider of essential items for foster families and now serves families across the state, including here in Peoria.
One of their biggest supporters and partnerships is the longstanding partnership with the west valley’s own Arizona Cardinal’s. The team supports foster families through ticket donations, player activations, and clothing donations, helping to create moments of joy and connection.
Their influence appears during the moments that count the most, a bed for a child, clothing that fits properly, a backpack for the first day of school, diapers and personal products, and birthday gifts which means, "You matter." These simple needs provide dignity during uncertain times.
The Foster Alliance is also involved in supporting potential foster families by providing them with necessary home safety items. The organization is driven by volunteers and by charity, and it has chosen to lead the way with compassion, humanity, and innovation.

“By creating moments of joy and connection, The Foster Alliance reminds foster families they are never alone.”

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to mean reservations, crowded restaurants, or elaborate plans to feel special. Some of the most memorable moments are created right at home, through simple traditions that invite creativity, connection, and a little bit of magic. Celebrating Valentine’s Day in allows you to slow the pace, involve the kids, and focus on what the day is really about: love in all its forms. Whether you’re starting new traditions or refreshing old ones, these ideas turn an ordinary day at home into something your family will look forward to year after year.
One of the easiest ways to set the tone is with a Sweet Treat Table. This doesn’t need to be over-the-top to feel exciting. A small table dressed with intention instantly becomes a focal point and creates anticipation the moment your kids spot it. You can keep it simple with a few favorite candies and snacks, or elevate the display with thoughtful details. Start by layering greenery as the base, placing the largest pieces in a circular shape around the table. Add shorter, varied greenery on top to create depth and softness. Finish by arranging Valentine’s Day mini cupcakes, chocolate-dipped Oreos, and festive cookies.

A few fresh flowers or a handmade centerpiece add charm without feeling fussy. For added impact, use cake stands, trays, or stacked books under a tablecloth to create height, and stick to a cohesive color palette so the display feels intentional rather than cluttered. Another standout tradition is creating a Valentine’s Tree. This eye-catching centerpiece is both decorative and versatile, making it a favorite that can be reused year after year. Begin by collecting fallen branches and painting them white for a clean, cohesive look. For the base, a thrifted or repurposed white ceramic jar works beautifully and adds character. Secure the branches with floral foam, then cover the top with moss for a finished appearance. Choosing branches with different heights and natural curves creates movement and makes the tree feel organic. Once it’s built, this tree becomes a blank canvas that can be reused for other holidays simply by swapping out what hangs from the branches.

To personalize the tree, add handmade Valentine’s Day ornaments. Heart-shaped ornaments are especially meaningful and fun to create with kids. Using recycled shipping boxes for the base keeps the project sustainable and accessible. Cut out heart shapes, paint them red, and use a hole punch around the edges to create a lace-like detail. Write names, dates, or short messages on the back to turn each ornament into a keepsake. These ornaments can also become part of an interactive experience. Use them as clue cards for a Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt, guiding kids to small notes or surprises hidden around the house. Keeping the hunt simple and age-appropriate ensures it stays fun and stress-free.

Valentine’s Day in is about more than decorations or treats. It’s about creating moments that feel thoughtful, playful, and personal. These simple traditions encourage creativity, bring everyone together, and transform your home into a place filled with warmth and connection. Long after the candy is gone and the decorations are packed away, the memories made will linger, becoming part of your family’s story for years to come.

Hidden in a secluded area of the Hawaiian island of Lāna‘i, Sensei Lāna‘i, A Four Seasons Resort, has started a new trend in what it means to have a romantic getaway. Apart from what would generally make one choose a romantic vacation, say in terms of activities of interest, places of amusement nearby, there exists something more that Sensei has to offer: the ability for two people to reunite in their shared quest for self-discovery.
Found in the midst of Cook pines and banyan trees with miles of stunning natural surroundings, this is a must-visit spot for couples looking to reconnect, deepen their connections and become more in tune with one another.
“Sensei” also originated because of a collaboration undertaken by Larry Ellison and Dr. David Agus, a world-class physician and scientist, because of losing a dear friend and wanting to use his power and influence to make a difference and make people's lives
the best they can be. This partnership created “The Sensei Way,” a philosophy that relies on “preventive health science” and consists of three easy steps: Move, Nourish, and Rest. In a relationship, these concepts translate into a shared language and a set of strategies that can be applied to one’s life long after a vacation.
Days at Sensei are meant to be fluid so couples can design an experience for themselves based on what suits them. There may be days when a movement class is done together, followed by healthy meals prepared at Sensei Nobu, where mealtimes are for nurturing and care rather than compromise. There may be relaxation during afternoons, where spa time, personal time, and even walks in the beautifully designed environment may be included. In the aspect of choice, there also comes an aspect where the couple spends quality and alone time, where both aspects amount to wellness for sustenance.

“DAYS AT SENSEI ARE MEANT TO BE FLUID SO COUPLES CAN DESIGN AN EXPERIENCE FOR THEMSELVES BASED ON WHAT SUITS THEM.”
For couples perhaps looking to find a stronger experience together, there is the Guided Wellness Experience, which allows them, together with a pre-arrival specialist and Sensei guides, to strive towards each of their goals through personal activities, such as physical exercise and yoga, meals, and meditations, among others, which would inspire them to think about how their home and daily routines can help them care for each other's wellness.
The offerings by Sensei can be applied to those who form a partnership for the shared activity of their choice. The Optimal Wellbeing Programs are designed for specialized activities in sports, but you aren’t required to do any of the actual sports. For example, you could go golfing or play tennis and get some professional training in the sport as well as an evaluation of exercises and spa relaxation for rejuvenation.
Perhaps the most appealing aspect of this option to today's couples is the emphasis on rest and relaxation. In today's world that so eagerly relies on stimulation, the Rest and Reset Program reminds couples to take a step back and examine their patterns of sleeping, stress, and mindfulness.
Alternatively, the options available after the inclusion of wearables and follow-ups simply emphasize the importance of wellness as something to be done by all. And at the end of it all, Sensei Lāna‘i is all about moving past life the way it is being lived today and discovering the way to live life better-together.
Many couples go home not only with a new perspective on their lives, on their relationship, and on themselves, but also with new insights and practices in place to continue the development of their life together. And in the midst of the luxury of seclusion on the island of Lāna‘i, love, romance, health, and vacation are all rediscovered.

• 1 ½ oz vodka
• ½ oz elderflower liqueur or orange liqueur
• 1 oz fresh lemon juice
• 2–3 fresh strawberries, sliced
• Prosecco or sparkling rosé, to top
• Ice
• Lemon peel, for garnish
• Extra sliced strawberries, for serving

There’s an ease to this drink that makes it especially appealing. It feels celebratory but not formal, polished yet approachable. Served over ice and garnished simply, it encourages slow sipping and easy conversation. Whether you’re planning a romantic date night, hosting a Galentine’s gathering, or just marking the season in your own way, it fits effortlessly into the moment.
What makes this cocktail stand out is its balance. It feels fresh and bright while still offering a sense of warmth and intention. It doesn’t compete with the occasion, it complements it. Valentine’s Day doesn’t need to be elaborate to feel meaningful, and this drink reflects that mindset beautifully.
At its core, this cocktail is about creating space to connect. A shared toast, a relaxed laugh, or a quiet moment at the end of the day. It’s a simple reminder that love, in all its forms, is worth celebrating, especially when it’s done with ease, intention, and a touch of sparkle.
1. Fill a stemless wine glass or rocks glass with ice.
2. Add sliced fresh strawberries to the glass and gently muddle just enough to release their juices without breaking them down completely.
Valentine’s Day is an invitation to pause and enjoy moments that feel thoughtful and a little indulgent. This cocktail captures that spirit with a soft blush hue, fresh fruit, and a sparkling finish that feels perfectly suited for February. It’s light, refreshing, and visually striking without feeling overdone, making it ideal for everything from a quiet evening in to a table surrounded by friends.
A light, sparkling Valentine’s cocktail made for easy celebrating
3. Pour in the base spirit and citrus component, stirring lightly to combine with the fruit.
4. Top slowly with prosecco or sparkling rosé to maintain the bubbles.
5. Gently stir once to bring everything together.
6. Garnish with a lemon peel and additional strawberry slices.
7. Serve immediately while chilled and bubbly.
