Welcome to our style issue.
I've never been a high-fashion, latest-designer type—more a jeans, sweater, sweatshirt, and sneakers girl. My home would never make it on the pages of a glossy magazine. It's more of a space filled with comfy seating, cozy throws and pillows, and many books. My late husband always said it felt like living in a library.

I think it's important to remember how fun it can be to get new wardrobe and decor ideas from current magazines, television shows, and social media influencers. However, what's important is embracing the styles that make you feel like you! Find your own look, knowing it may change many times as the years progress. And that's okay.
This issue has some fun and unusual suggestions to inspire your style journey. Check out the race-themed clothing from 1755 Wild Co, with uplifting themes like "Life's a race. Make it count." There are also some hacks to upgrade your hairdo. And for my fellow foodies, a photographer gives us some tips on styling those food shots.
Style is deeply personal, and it evolves as we celebrate our quirks, passions, and desires. It is a form of self-expression that communicates who we are, how we perceive the world, and what we value. In this way, style becomes a powerful tool for connection, enabling us to find common ground with others who share our aesthetic sensibilities.
As individuals, we can embrace established styles, blend them, or forge entirely new paths, becoming trendsetters ourselves. I hope this issue inspires you to forge new paths or perhaps explore familiar ones. There is so much here in Lawrence to uplift our spirits, boost our productivity, and ignite our creativity.
Oh, FYI: The magazine is going through some changes in the coming months, so things might look slightly different. But I'm a person who believes that change means adventure, excitement and improvement. So, sit back and enjoy what's to come!
Here's to being uniquely you!

Sisters Join Talents to Create Race-Inspired Clothing and Accessories Line

“Two Sisters--One Brand” is the motto Jamie Jamison and Shan Warren created for their clothing brand, 1755 Wild Co. The motocross-, BMX-, ATV- and racing-themed line features everything from t-shirts and sweats to backpacks, socks, and beanies. They even create wrapping paper, custom stickers, and rugs, and can design custom items to fit any occasion.
Jamison is a social-media influencer @moto. mom.life, where she shares her family’s everyday antics and involvement in motocross. (Four of her six kids race.)
Warren is the creative mind behind the designs. She enjoys life with her sweet canine friend, Nellie, and dreams of exploring the country in a remodeled RV.
Lawrence City Lifestyle talked to the sisters about how the vision for the company came about and why they’re passionate about everything Moto.
LCL: HOW DID YOU BOTH BECOME INVOLVED IN THE MOTOCROSS WORLD?
JAMISON: Our father actually started it. When he was 16, he saved up his money to buy a dirt bike. He was really into it, and then, as an adult, he met our mom. She had done nothing of the sort but got into it because he was. He got her a bike and they would trail ride, and he would race. In fact, he raced on the

tracks I’ve raced on, and now my kids race on. So, three generations have raced on the local tracks.
My mom rode while she was pregnant with both of us. And I rode pregnant with all of my kids. I raced pregnant with my daughter, Ellen. I think I was about 16 weeks pregnant. So, really, it’s in our blood.
But Shan and I raced BMX before we ever got dirt bikes. I did it from when I was six until I was twelve. And you [looking at Warren] raced from three to seven years old. The only reason we quit was because our parents divorced, and we went other ways. When I was sixteen, I finally got a dirt bike and was like, ‘I want to race.’ So, every Sunday, I would go out and race. Racing is where my heart is.
WARREN: I was so young when I raised BMX that I don’t remember it. I was told I would make the boys go home crying because after the race, I’d take off my helmet, and they’d see my blonde hair and realize they had lost to a girl.
I don’t remember racing. I liked the idea of racing, and I remember I liked traveling because we would go all across the United States for nationals and regionals, and we were good. We were the

Warren sisters, and I retired ranked number three in the country.
Jamie has a big passion for motocross. When she was 16 and got a dirt bike, I got grandfathered into having my own dirt bike, too. It’s funny. Every Sunday, we’d go out to race, right? But I’d stay back because I didn’t want to race.
I love the motocross community. The Moto Moms of motocross are what keep the community and sport going. And that ties into my passion for 1755. I’m falling in love all over again with the motocross community because of going to [nephew] Jack’s and [niece] Ellen’s races. You’re enemies on the track but friends in the pits. That is just how it is. If someone falls, people help them up.
LCL: HOW DID THE NAME 1755 WILD CO COME ABOUT?
WARREN: So, 17 is my lucky number. I was born on March 17th. My motocross number was 34, which is 17 multiplied by 2. And 55 is Jamie’s actual race number.
JAMISON: [Pointing to the kitchen table in her home.] We sat at this table for two hours trying to decide what we wanted to name our company. We went back and forth with lots of different ideas. Finally, we just kept going back to the wild part and the fact that life is wild. I have a wild crew of six kids, and the racetrack is wild. We’re wild. So, it just kind of fits what’s going on. And Shan wanted the co. Combined, it came to 1755 Wild Co.
“We're able to work together but still shine through our own personalities.”
- Jamie Jamison
LCL: AS SISTERS, HOW IS IT WORKING TOGETHER?
JAMISON: Shan does a lot of the actual design. I’ll come to her with ideas, and then she will make them come to life.
WARREN: I couldn’t do it without Jamie’s ideas.
JAMISON: And I do a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff like organizing, updating the website, and helping customers.
This has actually brought us a lot closer. I mean, in all honesty, we weren’t close growing up. We’re 100-percent opposites. But then there are some

things that we are freak-like. We can finish each other’s sentences. We can read each other’s minds. We do that all the time. Yet we are so different. It’s good that we’re different when it comes down to it. It wouldn’t work out if we were both one way or the other. We’re able to work together but still shine through our own personalities.

ARTICLE BY JESSICA GRACE PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES
What began as portrait photography quickly morphed into so much more. The start of the pandemic in 2020 allowed Janie Jones the time and opportunity to get creative and try different facets of her photography. With ideas rolling around in her head, she began doing, creating and trying new things. Since she, along with the entire world, was confined to her home, her living spaces became her canvas, and as ideas flowed, so did her desire to take action. She did everything from DIY’s
in building to styling her home with different angles, items and decor. Through combining the desire to create and the love of styling, she found a love of using her photography skills paired with food. This evolved into food styling and photography.
Jones did it for herself at the beginning, but when the world began to open up again, many businesses realized how needed her talent was and reached out to her for food photography and branding needs.

Area Photographer Offers Tips To Make Food Photo Perfect
With her Instagram profile, @uncommon.jane, gaining traction, she was soon booked with restaurants and other businesses to pivot her business to primarily styling and food photography.
While food photography will always be her favorite, she also longs to capture people’s stories through senior and family sessions. She is known and recognized for her uncommon, clever, and artistic styling when it comes to shooting various kinds of food. When asked what her favorite thing to photograph was, Jones answered, “ A great flat lay [an image shot directly from above] with beautiful linens, dinnerware, herbs, spices, and whatever else is in the dish. It just makes me happy!”

1. Start with the dish and make sure to note the colors of the dish.
2. Move on to the raw ingredients.
3. Once you have those colors, find the linens, cutlery or other props to accentuate the food.
4. Less is more: Don’t “overbusy” the scene.
5. Natural light is best. Pull your table up in front of the window if you need to get good lighting.
6. Make sure the background or backdrop is neutral in color so you can really see the details of the food.
Happy Creating!

• Window insulation strips
• Canvas
• Kilz Interior primer
• Staple gun
• Spray paint, color of choice
• Super glue, optional
Instructions:
Create the desired design using insulation strips. Simply peel off the sticky backing and attach to the canvas. Be sure to wrap each strip around the back and press firmly. Use a staple gun to secure strips to the back of the canvas. Add a dap of super glue to any curved areas that appear to loosen. Once your desired design is created, apply a thin coat of Kilz interior primer. Spray paint the entire canvas the color of choice that you would like. Allow to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

This trend-forward DIY art piece adds texture and dimension to your walls and is easy enough for anyone to do regardless of artistic ability.

Place a bandana on the forehead and tie it in the back. Create as many braids as desired in the back of the head, teasing the ends to avoid using elastics.

Part a mohawk section of hair down the center of the head. Create a French braid down the middle. For a thicker-looking braid, gently pull on the strands working your way up and down the braid. Pull it back into a ponytail for a simple and trendy look.

Part hair down the center. Create pullthrough braids on each side of the head. Tie elastic at the end of the braids to create a ponytail at the nape of the neck. For extra volume in the buns, tease the hair in the ponytail before twisting it into a bun. Secure with hair pins and... Voilà!
