“Ba-dee-ya, say do you remember? Ba-dee-ya, dancin’ in September…”
Maurice White, Earth Wind & Fire
At long last, we have come to the end of one of the hottest summers that we have ever seen in the 37075. Although we all had our share of fun times, the seemingly endless heat and humidity had many of us yearning for the bliss of fall to come sooner, rather than later, which leads us to our subject at hand - September.

Year after year, September is one of our favorite months. The ninth month of the year is noted for many things, including colorful leaves, lower humidity, shorter days and, of course, football.
September’s arrival also means that it’s time for our annual style issue, and as usual, we at Hendersonville Lifestyle have our own take on the subject. After all, style means different things to different people.
For some, it is all about clothing trends or hairstyles. For others, it might be something going viral on social media.
For your Lifestyle team, it means a great deal more – after all, style is in our name. We see style everywhere – it is an outward expression of how we see the world and how we want the world to see us.
This month, we bring you stories that showcase how style is alive and well in Hendersonville.
First, we visit with one of Hendersonville’s newest boutiques whose mission is meeting the needs of expectant mothers, new moms and their young children in style.
Next, we cruise down memory lane to spend some time with a local collector who boasts a sensuous, vintage collection of the great American sports car, aka the Corvette.
Continuing, we celebrate the return of one of our city’s most beloved restaurants. Follow along with us as we show you how nothing has been able to keep this establishment down – not fire, pandemics or tornadoes.
Finally, we check out what some of our local athletes have been wearing during their competitions. After all, the right uniforms, shoes and shades always sets the right mindset to go for the gold.
As always, our City Scene and Business Monthly sections will bring you the latest news about many of the great things happening in our city.
We are proud of our little September sojourn, and we invite you all to come along with us.
Keep stylin’, Hendersonville!

LOCAL BOUTIQUE OFFERS EVERYTHING FOR NEW MOMS AND THEIR CHILDREN

Warmth, Understanding, Caring.
These words reflect the feelings experienced by many women as they walk into Lila Maternity for the first time. The entire boutique seems be permeated with feelings of comfort and welcome.
Lila Maternity was conceived by veteran nurse/doula Caitlyn Schollmeier after she encountered shortcomings that made the birthing experience less enjoyable for her patients. One of the things that she noticed was the lack of comfortable clothing for women going through labor.
“I never liked seeing hospital gowns in the labor and delivery setting,” says Caitlyn. “Women should be free to wear anything they want, and to experience the process in whichever way makes them feel most comfortable.”
Eventually, Caitlyn decided to act, and she developed her own gown as a response.
CONTINUED >
“I created my first gown to help humanize the childbirth experience,” says Caitlyn. “I wanted to craft a garment that would provide accessibility for the delivery team, but also offer style, comfort and privacy for the patient.”
After developing her design, she soon went into production.
“At first, I only produced 50 gowns,” says Caitlyn. “However, I created a TikTok video about the gowns, and the demand for them soared. I ordered 2,500 more gowns, and we sold them all within two hours.”
After her initial success, Caitlyn decided to expand by opening a dedicated online retail outlet. In 2020, she launched her e-tail business under the name Lila Maternity.
“Our original name was Lifted Labor, which was an homage to elevating the labor and birthing experience,” says Caitlyn. “Later, I decided to modify the name, and I took the first two letters of Lifted, and the first two of Labor, and combined them to create Lila.”
During its first three years, Lila was exclusively an online business. However, during early 2024, Caitlyn decided that she wanted to have a physical presence. During March, she opened Lila Maternity in Hendersonville. Although it has only been open a few months, the boutique has rapidly become the go-to place for everything that a new or expectant mom needs, including labor gowns, swaddles, robes, nursing t-shirts and nightgowns.
Along with merchandise, Lila is also becoming known for its wide range of educational classes held onsite at its Hendersonville location.
“My ultimate goal is to see our store become a resource hub in our community,” says Caitlyn. “From products to learning to support – I want our clients to feel like they can get all their parenthood essentials from Lila Maternity.”

Caitlyn Schollmeier is not your typical entrepreneur.
Although she possesses exceptional business acumen, Caitlyn is also an experienced labor and delivery nurse and doula, who will be completing her midwifery certification at Vanderbilt University this fall.
Between her medical background and her own personal birth experiences with her three children, Caitlyn is uniquely qualified to help women navigate their journeys into the world of motherhood.
She founded Lila Maternity to provide women and their families with the expertise, education and merchandise needed to help them embrace their birth and delivery processes. According to Caitlyn, her goal is “to provide thoughtful products to aid the journey into motherhood while recognizing the humanity, diversity and beauty of our customers.”

Enthusiast Shares His Love Of The Great American
ARTICLE BY RICK MURRAY
PHOTOGRAPHY BY LYNN BOWLES*
One of the most popular hobbies for many people is collecting objects of interest. From artwork to sculptures to books, people often spend lifetimes adding to and managing their personal collections.
In Hendersonville, one of the most interesting collections is a rare complete set of C2 Corvettes. To find out more about this unique set, Hendersonville Lifestyle recently visited with owner Mike Kidd.

WHEN DID YOUR LOVE FOR CORVETTES BEGIN?
“I saw my first Corvette C2, in middle school. My PE teacher had a new 1966 Nassau Blue Corvette Coupe with a white interior. I loved the futuristic look of the cockpit, the throaty sound of the engine and exhaust train and the overall style ‘wow’ appeal.”
WHY CORVETTES?
“Early on, I became fascinated with legendary auto engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, who is known as the father of the Corvette. Through his style and vision, Arkus-Duntov created the first true American sports car.”
FIRST CORVETTE?
“I bought my 1st Corvette during the pandemic. It is a 1967 black/camel roadster that had been previously owned by NASCAR legend Mark Martin. Oddly enough, I ended up buying my 2nd Corvette just 3 days later – a gorgeous red/red 1963 C2 with the classic split rear window. I am particularly proud of these two vehicles because they bookend the C2 model years.”
HOW MANY CORVETTES?
“I have 5 Corvettes covering all 5 years of the C2 series. Along with my bookends, I also have a 64 silver/silver, a 65 blue/blue and a rare black/white 66 coupe. The 63 and 66 models still have their original undercarriage inspection corrections, so I never drive them. However, I do drive the 64, 65 and 76 models regularly. I am particularly proud of my 64 Corvette – its glovebox, owner’s manual and air intake were all signed by Arkus-Duntov himself with his unique ‘Mark of Zora’.”
ADVICE FOR PROSPECTIVE COLLECTORS?
“Do your homework, know the car/trim/ features that you want and have a budget. I always buy for a reason, never on impulse, and I also buy to keep, not to resell. I consider my collection to be generational art that I will someday pass down to my ‘Grand-Kidds’.”

Making it in the restaurant business is not for the faint of heart.
Cash flow problems, competitive pressures and staffing issues must be carefully managed everyday just to make ends meet. Given the thin margins that most eateries operate on, there is little room for error, leaving many restauranteurs feeling like they are walking daily tightwires.
When confronted with an unexpected disaster such as a fire, many restaurants do not have the resources to recover, and they ultimately go out of business. Add in an extended shutdown due to a global pandemic, and things only get worse. Finally, throw a devastating tornado into the mix, and you enter the world of Jolly Ollie’s Pizza and Pub.
Since 2019, Jolly Ollie’s owners Dilya and Michael Knight have experienced each of these catastrophic situations, only to rebuild and reopen time and time again. During each occurrence, things appeared very bleak for the veteran restauranteurs.
“It was not easy dealing with the aftermath of the fire and the lengthy pandemic shutdown,” recalls Dilya Knight. “However, through a lot of hard work and community support, we were able to recover and reopen.”
Just when Covid began to subside, and things started to get back to normal, here came Dec. 9, 2023. On that stormy Saturday night during the midst of the holiday season, the unexpected occurred once more. At approximately 5 p.m. that evening, a massive 400-yardswide EF-2 tornado brought havoc and destruction to the City by the Lake as it carved out a swath of ruin that stretched from Madison to Gallatin.
In the hours and days following the tornado, the scale of destruction gradually emerged. Many homes along the path of the twister experienced significant damage, along with over 130 local businesses. Most of the businesses that were impacted were located on or adjacent to Nashville Pike, including Jolly Ollies. The beloved restaurant had

once again suffered severe damage, with much of the structure rendered nearly unrecognizable.
As they surveyed the damage, the Knight’s soon realized that once again they were going to be in for a long and challenging rebuilding process. However, their previous experiences in recovering from the 2019 fire and surviving the pandemic closure period had taught them how to be resilient in the face of disaster.
“Our recent history has taught us how to come together and operate in a crisis mode. We are strong, and we are survivors,” says Dilya. “Although we had seemingly lost everything once more, we counted our blessings. None of our staff nor customers who were in our restaurant when the tornado struck were injured. We realized that recovering again was going to be a challenge, but we were unwavering in our commitment to build back bigger and better than ever.”
For the next eight months, the Knights and their team worked diligently to rebuild their restaurant. Along the way, they received numerous donations of money, materials and “sweat equity” from agencies, customers and supporters across the community.
Finally, Jolly Ollie’s was able to reopen once more during a special friends and family event held on Jul. 29. The invitation-only occasion was held to celebrate the rebirth of the restaurant, while simultaneously thanking many of the people who had stood steadfast by Dilya and her team during their time of need. The friends and family get-together was followed up by other special occasions, including a special multi-day grand reopening celebration at the end of August.
“We are forever grateful to our community and friends for their unwavering support,” said Dilya Knight. “Without them, we wouldn’t have made it.”

ATHLETES EXPRESS INDIVIDUAL STYLE WHILE COMPETING IN LOCAL TRIATHLONS

ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK MURRAY

One of the most popular aspects of sports and athletics these days is the attention paid style.
From fashionable uniforms to tricked out workout gear, many people seem to enjoy the look of their favorite athletes and teams as much as they do their on-thefield performance.
This devotion to style was showcased daily during the recent Paris Summer Olympics, as television and print coverage devoted almost as much time to what the competitors were wearing as to how many medals they won. However, the attention to

outfits and equipment is not just limited to professional teams and world class competitions – it has also trickled down to the world of youth sports.
From baseball to softball and beyond, the days of dull, boring uniforms and gear are long gone. As young people follow their favorite teams in broadcast and social media, they are keenly aware of the brands, colors and styles being worn by their sports heroes.
One sport that does a great job of combining stylish design with functional form is the triathlon. Specialized bikes, custom triathlon uniforms, aerodynamic helmets and custom-fitted shoes are just a few of the many of the hallmarks that are regularly seen at triathlon competitions around the world.
Locally, the same attention to stylish detail can be seen in competitions closer to home, such as the annual Old Hickory Lake and Kids Triathlons sponsored by the Hendersonville Area Endurance Team (HEAT). During these events, hundreds of athletes vied against one another to see who could take home the gold during the multisport competitions. Along with demonstrating their swimming, biking and running skills, many of these athletes also took advantage of the opportunities to show off their unique styles.
After all, it never hurts to look your best, even during the heat of competition.

Part the top half of the hair in two sections. Create fishtail braids (or braids of choice) and tie them together in the back of the hair. Add a fashion accessory around a ponytail for a little extra fun!
Braids are a great way to add style and uniqueness to your hair style rotation and have been a staple in hair styles dating back to 3500 B.C. This historical hairstyle is here to stay, so we wanted to share some go-to impressive looks.

Part the hair down the center or side part, if preferred. Create braid(s) on the side of the head and secure with elastic. Twist the hair with braids into a simple bun, securing it with hair pins. Add an accessory for a classy touch.

BOLD COLORS Fresh florals. An eye-catching shimmer. The perfect embellishment. We’re talking cocktails, not the catwalk. But like fashion, the art of mixology is full of ways to push the limits with creative twists on classic recipes, and unique adornments guaranteed to turn heads. There’s no reason your personal style can’t extend to the drink in your hand, and this botanical beverage is bound to taste as delicious as it looks.
• 2 ounces Absolut Citron
• 1/2 ounce Blue Curaçao
• 1/2 ounce lemonade
• 1 ounce Sprite
• Edible flowers such as rose, lavender, hibiscus and nasturtiums
Pour Sprite into ice cube trays and add edible flower combinations. Let freeze overnight.
Combine Absolut Citron, Blue Curaçao, lemonade and ice cubes in martini shaker. Shake and strain into a martini glass.
Allow ice cubes to melt, gradually filling the glass with Sprite and garnishing the drink with beautiful botanicals.
