Love is in Bloom

Local Love

February is the season of love, and here in Gallatin, loving local is always in style. This month’s Local Love issue is a celebration of the people, passions, and small businesses that make our community feel like home.

We are thrilled to spotlight the Queen of Local Love herself—Kim Baker of Kimfetti + Co. Kim’s creativity, heart for celebration, and commitment to spreading joy remind us that love is best expressed boldly and beautifully. Her work truly embodies the magic of turning moments into memories.

You’ll also discover the edible creations of beauty from Blooming Kupcakes, where artistry and flavor collide in the most delightful way. These sweet treats prove that love really can be baked into every bite.

This issue wouldn’t be complete without sharing stories of local lovebirds, reminding us that the best love stories are often written right here in our own backyard. And as February brings a splash of color and culture, we’re excited to celebrate Mardi Gras, embracing the joy, tradition, and community spirit that make this season so vibrant and delicious at Roux's Creole Cafe.

At Gallatin City Lifestyle, we are endlessly grateful for the opportunity to tell these stories—to uplift local businesses, celebrate milestones, and connect neighbors through shared experiences. This month and always, we are proud to be loving local.

This issue is packed full of love and we are excited for you to enjoy every page! With gratitude,

February 2026

Queen of Local Love, Kim Baker, Continues Turning Passion, Pink, and Purpose into a Community-Wide Celebration with Kimfetti & Co.

BY LINDSEY HICKMAN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY CIERA + CO.

If you ask anyone in Gallatin who knows how to show up for a community, Kim Baker’s name comes up fast—and always with a smile. As President & CEO of the Gallatin Area Chamber of Commerce, Kim has spent more than a decade pouring energy, heart, and an unwavering belief in people into the city she chose as home. Now, with the opening of her bright pink party supply storefront and creative space, Kimfetti + Co., she’s celebrating Gallatin in a brand-new way—one sprinkle at a time.

Kim’s path to leadership wasn’t mapped out with titles or trophies in mind. After moving frequently as a child, she arrived in Gallatin in 2000 from South Florida with a simple desire: to belong somewhere. “I was hungry to call somewhere home,” she says, “I decided Gallatin would be it.”

That decision came with commitment. When Kim joined the Chamber in November 2013 as a part-time office administrator, she went all in—long before she ever held the CEO title. “I didn’t really mean to do any of this,” she laughs, “I just got in here and did my best, asking questions along the way. Showing up where I thought I was supposed to.”

By February 2015, after a nationwide search, Kim was named President & CEO. She didn’t pretend to have every tool in the leadership toolbox. Instead, she brought passion, energy, and a promise to give 110 percent. A friend once told her, “Passion is powerful—don’t forget that,” and Kim has carried that reminder into every room she enters. “Why leave home without it?” she says, “It’s more fun being all in, all the time.”

CONTINUED >

That passion hasn’t gone unnoticed. Over the years, Kim has been recognized as 2019 Leadership Sumner’s Alumni of the Year, 2021 Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives’ Top 40 Under 40, 2023 Pope John Paul II Preparatory School’s Mentor of the Year, and in 2024 alone earned honors including Tennessee Chamber of Commerce Executives’ Executive of the Year, Vol State Community College’s Distinguished Alumnus, and United Way’s Advocate of the Year. Under her leadership, Gallatin has earned statewide recognition for standout events and publications, reinforcing its reputation as Reader’s Digest’s 2017 Nicest Place in America.

Yet even while championing for hundreds of local businesses, Kim quietly carried a dream of her own. Entrepreneurship has always been in her DNA— from selling Girl Scout cookies on the streets of South Florida – including one memorable sale to Dan Marino – to inventing crafts and sketching ideas into journals. “Opening a business has been a lifelong dream,” she says, “Helping others realize theirs was inspiring—but I wanted to live more of my personal dreams, too.”

The spark reignited during a summer trip to Bonnaroo with close friends, where conversations about goals and why not now? moments lingered. Soon after, Kim stumbled upon a vacant downtown storefront that just felt right. By July, the lease was signed. In October, Kimfetti + Co. officially opened its doors.

The concept itself had been quietly waiting for nearly 15 years—born from Kim’s love of hosting, event styling, and creating memorable guest experiences. Raised by exceptional hosts and shaped by years in the service industry, Kim sees celebration as more than decor. “How will it make guests feel? What will they remember?” she asks.

That philosophy is woven into Kimfetti’s mission: to help people feel seen and celebrated by elevating life’s sweetest moments with intentional design and hands-on support. The shop’s core values— Celebrate Everyone, Lead with Kindness, Create with Joy, Grow Together—aren’t just words on the wall; they’re lived daily.

Family plays a central role, too. Kim and her husband Ryan’s eight-year-old daughter, Annlyn, has become both muse and teammate. From paint colors to products that sparkle just enough, Annlyn’s influence is everywhere. “She’s learning the joy of owning something,” Kim says, “Building from the ground up. Seeing the fruits of hard work.” For a generation that will own less and less, that lesson feels especially meaningful.

“Working with so many businesses and helping many realize their dreams has been so inspiring to witness and walk through, but has often left me wishing I was living more of my personal dreams, too.”

Opening Kimfetti has also given Kim fresh perspective on the very work she’s championed for years. Experiencing Chamber events like Tinsel and Treasures as a business owner was, she says, “full circle.” Hearing customers say, “I’m here because of the Chamber event,” reaffirmed why community infrastructure matters—and why Gallatin works.

Her advice for aspiring business owners is heartfelt and practical: get involved, write that Chamber check, ask questions, lean on neighbors, and give yourself grace. “Gallatin is true to itself—come as you are,” she says, “Once this community knows and trusts you, they show up loud and proud.”

At the heart of it all is the same guiding belief Kim has carried since her earliest days at the Chamber: passion changes things.

“Here at Kimfetti,” she says, “we craft moments with sparkle and fun, because everyone deserves to feel special, loved, and celebrated.”

In Gallatin, that’s not just a business motto—it’s a way of life Kim Baker has been building for years.

Every Love Story is Beautiful

MEET LOCAL LOVEBIRDS WHOSE FAIRYTALES

CAME TRUE AT FIVE PALMS

For Kevin and Michelle Scharfman, creating memorable experiences is a family affair—and it all began with their own love story. College sweethearts who met at Nova Southeastern University in South Florida, the couple quickly discovered a shared passion for life, learning, and each other. After tying the knot, they continued their journey together at the University of Florida, where Kevin pursued pharmacy school and Michelle earned her master’s degree in special education. Today, that same dedication and care infuses Five Palms, the venue they’ve shaped into a home for love stories and unforgettable moments.

This past December marked 23 years of marriage, a milestone Michelle describes with gratitude and grounded honesty. “Marriage is hard, but it is so worth it,” she says. She knows firsthand that every couple faces seasons that test them—days, weeks, sometimes even years—but believes deeply in working hard, sticking together, and choosing love over and over again. As they prepare to enter their “empty nest” chapter this summer, she feels anchored by the fact that she’s married to her best friend.

Scharfman Family | Photo by Elizabeth Hall Photography

Their love has always been rooted in everyday moments—pizza date nights, cheering on their daughters, and building a life filled with intention. So when Michelle, a wedding photographer of more than a decade, began dreaming of a venue of her own, it felt like a natural extension of everything she cherished. One night, after she and Kevin casually wondered aloud about buying land, Michelle acted immediately—calling their realtor the very next morning. That spark became Five Palms, now in its second year of hosting.

Today, their venue is far more than a business. It is a family legacy. All three of the Scharfman daughters work at Five Palms, along with their new son-in-law. Their oldest, Kaylee, is a wedding coordinator, while Kennedy and Kyla help bring events to life with warmth and care.

Every couple who marries at Five Palms becomes part of that extended family. Designed with a photographer’s eye and a mother’s heart, the venue reflects Michelle’s belief that every love story deserves a space as beautiful—and as meaningful—as the people within it. And as you’ll see in the stories of the couples who’ve celebrated their love here, every love story is indeed beautiful—especially when it begins at Five Palms.

GABBY & BRETT

High school sweethearts from Old Hickory and Mt. Juliet, Gabby and Brett have been together for over four years and recently celebrated their love with a September 2025 wedding at Five Palms. Following the advice to love the Lord above all, their bond continues to grow stronger each day. Bourbon Steakhouse is one of their favorite date spots, but their wedding day was truly unforgettable. With the stunning venue, thoughtful planners, and the vision of Michelle and Kevin, Five Palms perfectly brought their dream wedding to life, creating memories they will cherish forever.

Five Palms was born from love and family— designed with a photographer’s eye and a mother’s heart— so every couple feels celebrated, supported, and welcomed into something meaningful from the start here.

“ Marriage is hard, but worth choosing every day—through seasons, celebrations, and sacrifices— because building a life together creates a foundation strong enough to hold family, faith, and unforgettable moments forever together.”

CAMERON & HAYDEN

Both from Wilson County, Cameron and Hayden were introduced through a mutual friend during their final year of college, a connection that quickly turned into a lifelong partnership. Together since February 2024, they were married on October 5, 2025, with a shared commitment to keeping God at the center of their marriage—believing that pursuing Him individually equips them to love each other as Christ loves the church. Town Square Social, where they shared their first date, remains a favorite. Choosing Five Palms before construction was complete, they trusted the vision of Michelle and her family, and the venue became everything they hoped for and more.

KAYLEE & TUCKER

Kaylee and Tucker’s story began their freshman year at Sewanee: The University of the South, where a shared college experience— football for Tucker and volleyball for Kaylee—sparked a friendship that lasted all year before turning into something more the following summer. Now living together in Lebanon, they’ve built a life rooted in service and dedication, with Tucker serving as a teacher and head football coach at Walter J. Baird Middle School and Kaylee working as a Medical ICU nurse at Vanderbilt. Together for four and a half years and married for just five months, they make time for local date nights at Town Square Social and the occasional upscale sushi dinner at Wako in Murfreesboro. Choosing Five Palms was an easy decision. Kaylee might be a little biased since her parents own the venue, but she believes its charm and beauty stand on their own, from the picture-perfect suites and panoramic ceremony views to the welcoming reception space and the unforgettable greenhouse.

“Five Palms is more than a venue—it’s a reflection of our family, our faith, and our love story. Every detail was created with intention, so couples feel supported, celebrated, and confident that their wedding day is as meaningful and beautiful as the life they’re beginning together.”

BUTTERCREAM BLOOMING IN

Gallatin’s award-winning floral cupcake artist creates edible art for birthdays, weddings, and Valentine’s Day

For Katherine Halbeck, creativity didn’t arrive with a business plan—it revealed itself quietly, one piped petal at a time. Today, the Gallatin-based owner of Blooming Kupcakes is a multi-award-winning cupcake artist, known for transforming humble cupcakes into couture-level floral arrangements that feel as thoughtful as they are beautiful.

What began as an unexpected creative outlet quickly uncovered a rare talent. After discovering floral cupcake artistry online, Katherine ordered piping tools and began experimenting in her home kitchen. The results were striking: lifelike blooms crafted entirely from buttercream, each one delicately formed by hand. When friends saw her creations, their reactions said everything. This wasn’t just baking—it was art. Blooming Kupcakes was born from that realization: a way to create joy, beauty, and meaningful moments through edible design.

A day in the Blooming Kupcakes studio is equal parts discipline and imagination. Katherine starts by reviewing orders and planning color palettes, treating each arrangement like a bespoke commission. Every flower—rose, peony, ranunculus, or wild bloom—is piped petal by petal, requiring patience, precision, and complete focus.

That commitment to excellence is perhaps best reflected in Blooming Kupcakes’ signature vanilla flavor. Katherine wanted to reimagine vanilla as something luxurious and memorable—never ordinary. Inspiration struck during a dining experience that featured an unexpectedly rich texture and depth of flavor. A conversation with the restaurant owner revealed the secret: premium imported flour. That insight led Katherine and Andy to incorporate the same quality ingredient into their cupcakes, creating a vanilla that is subtly complex, refined, and unmistakably Blooming Kupcakes.

As a couple, Katherine and Andy’s partnership is the backbone of the business. Their collaboration balances creativity with execution, artistry with logistics. Each role supports the other, resulting in cupcakes that are not only visually stunning but flawlessly produced and delivered.

CONTINUED >

Supporting the artistry is her husband, Andy, who manages the baking, prepares the buttercream, and handles deliveries. The division of roles allows Katherine to immerse herself fully in the creative process, ensuring every finished piece feels intentional and elevated.

What sets Blooming Kupcakes apart goes far beyond presentation. While high-quality ingredients are a given—including specialty flour imported from Europe—the true distinction lies in technique. Katherine uses advanced floral piping methods more often associated with sugar art than traditional bakeries. With more than 60 unique flower designs in her repertoire, each cupcake is meant to be admired before it’s ever tasted. The result is a dessert that blurs the line between centerpiece and confection.

Blooming Kupcakes has become a sought-after choice for birthdays, weddings, showers, anniversaries, corporate events, and thoughtful gifting. Floral cupcake bouquets are especially popular, often selected to complement wedding florals or mark meaningful milestones. Seasonal offerings—including limited-edition Valentine’s collections—sell quickly, while intimate cupcake workshops invite guests behind the scenes to learn the floral piping techniques that bring each design to life.

Though the brand has earned both national and international recognition, Katherine remains grounded in the purpose that inspired it from the beginning.

“What we do goes beyond cupcakes,” she shares, “each piece is created with intention and care, with the hope of leaving a lasting impression.”

At Blooming Kupcakes, beauty is more than decoration—it’s an experience. One thoughtfully crafted cupcake at a time, Katherine Halbeck is redefining what it means to celebrate life’s moments, proving that art doesn’t just belong on walls—it can bloom right on your plate.

Valentine’s Day is one of Blooming Kupcakes’ most anticipated seasons, featuring limited-edition floral cupcake collections and curated gift boxes designed for romantic gifting. Orders can be placed at bloomingkupcakes.com, while seasonal pop-ups are announced on social media for those hoping to purchase spontaneously. SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY, GALLATIN CHARM

Roux’s Creole Cafe: Where Mardi Gras is more about meaning than mischief.

When James and Holley Lampley opened Roux’s Creole Café in Gallatin, they weren’t just adding another restaurant to the local dining scene—they were bringing an entire culture with them. Warm, soulful, and deeply rooted in Southern tradition, Roux’s has quickly become a place where food is more than a meal; it’s a celebration. And with Mardi Gras approaching, the Lampleys are leaning into the heritage and history that inspire everything they do.

Deep Southern Spirit, the Gallatin Way

Cajun vs. Creole: A Local Lesson

Many diners use the terms Cajun and Creole interchangeably, but James shares the difference so you know what to expect from a Creole Cafe.

“Cajun food has roots in the Frenchspeaking Acadian people who settled in rural Louisiana,” he says. “It’s rustic, hearty, built around ingredients like seafood, pork, and rice.”

The idea behind Roux’s was simple: bring something unmistakably unique to a town that deserved it. “Our decision to bring Creole to Gallatin was born out of a desire to create something truly different for our community,” says James. After decades in the restaurant industry, he was craving a new challenge—one that honored time-honored culinary traditions while offering something fresh to local diners.

Creole food, he explains, isn’t just a regional style; it’s a story, a legacy woven through Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and beyond. “The rich traditions and vibrant flavors of Creole cuisine captivated us,” he says. “By sharing these recipes and stories, we hope to bring a taste of authentic Southern hospitality to everyone who walks through our doors.”

Creole, meanwhile, is city cuisine—the food of New Orleans itself. “It blends French, Spanish, African, and Caribbean influences,” he explains. “Creole dishes tend to be richer, often featuring tomatoes, butter, and a wider range of spices.”

Both, he emphasizes, are bold, flavorful, and essential to understanding Louisiana’s unique culinary landscape.

Roots in Tradition—Even Without the Bayou

While James doesn’t claim deep Louisiana ancestry, his culinary training is steeped in classic French techniques— techniques that shaped Creole cuisine long before it became a New Orleans staple.

“My background gave me the confidence and expertise to create and adapt the unique flavors of Creole cooking,” he says. “Embracing these influences lets me honor the spirit of the cuisine while bringing something authentic and heartfelt to our guests.”

Beignets made with skill and flair by Roux’s pastry queen and bread pudding expert, Sofia Goodall.

And authentic it is. Roux’s menu is a blend of respect for history and a willingness to test, tweak, and perfect. Each dish carries a story. Each recipe is a piece of culture retold.

A Family Affair With Deep Community Roots

Roux’s isn’t a one-man operation, and James is the first to emphasize it. Friends and the Lampleys’ children have become part of the Roux’s heartbeat. It’s a team that feels like family, working together with a shared goal: make every guest feel welcome. Unlike traditional establishments with designated hosts and formal table service, Roux’s approach is distinct. Every member of their team, from the kitchen to the front-of-house, is committed to ensuring guest’s needs are met. “Eddie Pollard is our dedicated operations manager, Sofia Goodall is our talented beignet queen and bread pudding specialist and our wonderful children can do it all,” explains James.

Mardi Gras at Roux’s: More Than Beads and Parades

To James and Holley, Mardi Gras is more than the wild parties often associated with New Orleans. It’s tradition—one actually rooted outside Louisiana.

“Most people don’t realize Mardi Gras was first celebrated in Mobile, Alabama,” James says with a laugh. “That fact surprises a lot of guests. To us, Mardi Gras is more than just the lively parades and parties; it’s rooted in tradition and carries meanings tied to the holy week leading up to Lent, rather than the debauchery it’s sometimes associated with.”

At Roux’s, Mardi Gras is celebrated simply, warmly, and with intention. Expect authentic king cake, festive menu specials, and of course, beads. Lots of beads.

“And unlike being in New Orleans,” James jokes, “we give our beads out in hopes you keep your clothes on.”

It’s a lighthearted nod to Louisiana culture—and exactly the kind of humor that keeps Roux’s feeling both approachable and fun.

A Recipe with a Story: Bread Pudding Through the Years

If there’s one dish that fully embodies Roux’s mission, it’s the bread pudding. James discovered a recipe from the 1830s tucked inside an old church cookbook. It became the foundation for Roux’s version—old-fashioned, historically rich, and beautifully simple.

“We made the original, tested it, made some minor changes for bulking up the recipe, and added a twist to the bourbon glaze,” he says. “It’s old, authentic, and on point.”

For James, it represents the connection between food, history, and community—a reminder of how recipes travel through time and across generations.

A Dining Experience Made Simple—and Special

Roux’s offers a service model that stands apart from traditional sit-down dining. There’s no assigned host or section-based servers. Instead, guests place their orders at the counter, and the entire staff works as a unified team to take care of everything else.

“Every team member—from the kitchen to the front-of-house— is committed to giving you attentive service,” James explains. Food is brought to the table. Needs are met promptly. The dining room stays clean. “You’re supported by the collective efforts of our full team, not just one person.”

Creole cuisine is a regional story — shaped by migration, culture, and centuries of Southern life. At Roux’s, the Lampleys’ team celebrate that expansive history, offering flavors rooted in Mississippi, Alabama, Texas, and Louisiana alike. It’s not about recreating New Orleans. It’s about honoring the full sweep of Creole tradition, served with warmth, intention, and heart.

Watch for Roux’s food truck rolling into town Mardi Gras week!
