There's just something about summer that brings about a sense of excitement and adventure.
Sure, fall has my favorite flavors and scents, winter has its cozy charms, and I can't deny the beauty of spring. But when the summer solstice rolls around, I’m more than ready for the long, languid days sitting by the pool or floating on a boat.

The pages in our Adventure Awaits issue will help you make the most of this season. In this issue you will discover the flavorful collaboration of Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar’s Santo Tequila, fabulous “dock and dine” waterfront restaurants, and a must visit, the Stormking Art Center, outdoor sculpture museum.
My family loves to explore new places to visit and build summer fun memories together each year. There's something about visiting a new place, trying a new drink or place to dine that feels so rejuvenating and refreshing.
Just like this season has a way of bringing people together, we hope the pages inside this month’s issue will enrich and enliven your experience of our Garden State this summer!

Explore the Flavorful Collaboration of Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar
ARTICLE BY ANA MEYER | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
In the world of culinary creativity and rockstar revelry, few names shine as brightly as Guy Fieri and Sammy Hagar. These two legends, known for their bold flavors and larger-than-life personalities, have joined forces to create something truly remarkable: Santo Tequila. Join us as we delve into the heart

“When it comes to tequila we're dealing with such simple ingredients and such a rustic simple, traditional approach to making a great spirit.”
of this collaboration, exploring the inspiration, craftsmanship, and rockstar spirit behind additive-free Santo Tequila. Grab your glass and get ready to toast to excellence, friendship, and unforgettable moments with every sip.
We know Guy Fieri as a celebrity chef, entrepreneur, and family man. Having met Guy, there’s more to him than just his TV persona. I want to personally add to his lengthy list of accolades. Fieri is genuinely a “super nice guy” who really cares about his fans. Picture this: Guy swings by the Low Dive bar in Asbury Park and the Wine Outlet in Wall Township, New Jersey to hang with his fans and sign bottles of his Santo Tequila. Rain or shine, his admirers showed up in droves, wrapping around the building at the Wine Outlet. Suddenly, like a culinary superhero, Guy emerges from his black SUV, braving the rain to personally greet his fans. Inside, he’s not just posing for snapshots – he’s
making genuine connections, treating everyone like friends. Guy Fieri isn’t just a celebrity chef; he’s a down-to-earth legend who knows how to make every moment count.
“When it comes to tequila we’re dealing with such simple ingredients and such a rustic simple, traditional approach to making great tequila. Any cheat will be evident in the bottle and those cheats are fixed with additives, which we would never use. You’ll get quality and integrity all the way through from our Blanco to our Reposado to our Añejo.” Guy Fieri
Q: Can you share with us the inspiration behind creating this particular tequila brand?
A: The inspiration for Santo Tequila stemmed from a shared passion for quality spirits between myself and my good friend, the legendary rocker Sammy Hagar. Sammy is an icon in the spirits industry, having

started his first tequila back in 1996. When he asked me to be involved with Santo, I jumped at the opportunity. He created a tequila that embodied the spirit of adventure, authenticity, and celebration, reflecting our collective love for good times and great flavors, so I was all in!
Q: What distinguishes Santo Tequila from other tequila brands?
A: Santo Tequila stands out for its unwavering commitment to quality and tradition. Crafted using 100% blue weber agave from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, and employing time-honored production techniques, our tequila boasts a smooth and distinct flavor profile that sets it apart from the crowd. 100% Blue Weber agave. 100% additive-free.
Q: Could you provide insights into the flavor profiles?
1. Santo Blanco Tequila: Crisp and clean, with citrus and floral notes. Versatile for sipping or mixing.
2. Santo Reposado Tequila: Rested in oak barrels, offering a smooth finish with hints of caramel and vanilla.
3. Santo Añejo Tequila: Aged an average of two years, rich and full-bodied with flavors of oak, caramel, and spices.
4. Santo Mezquila: A one-of-a-kind blend of tequila and mezcal, bold and smoky with a unique flavor profile.
Q: The packaging and branding are visually striking. How does it embody the spirit of the product and its rock-and-roll heritage?”
A: It was inspired by our shared love for rock-androll culture and the spirit of adventure. From the bold colors to the iconic logo, every element reflects the energy and excitement of the Santo Spirits brand.
“It's not a magic trickwe're just really showing you the cards and saying great people, honest ingredients, and honest crafting gives you great tequila. Why waste a great time with friends on an ‘OK’ tequila?”

Q: Are there any signature cocktails or serving suggestions you recommend?
A: Santo Tequila lends itself beautifully to a variety of cocktails. Whether you prefer it neat, on the rocks, or mixed into your favorite cocktail. Visit our website for delicious drink recipes.

EXPLORE AN AMAZING OUTDOOR MUSEUM

Experience incredible artistic works in a beautiful outdoor setting in New York’s Hudson Valley. Named after a nearby majestic mountain, Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre outdoor museum, has been featuring modern and contemporary art since 1960.
“If you want an experience of big open fields with grasses and wildflowers, head south from the center [of Storm King] and you’ll see large-scale installations that are dramatically set in the fields,” says Art Center’s Artistic Director and Chief Curator, Nora Lawrence. “Then, if you head to the outskirts, or to the north, there are paths through the woods with smaller sculptures and installations, so that’s a totally different experience.”
It’s definitely been a landscape project for as long as it’s been an art project, she adds, and there’s no way to separate those two things. “They make each other more extraordinary. It’s something that has been created through generations of landscape architects who have also worked closely with artists to make sure we’re making the most of artistic projects by using the land to complement them.”
Over the years, artists have included Alexander Calder and Maya Lin, who designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. In addition to extraordinary outdoor works of art, there are nine galleries located inside the Museum Building, a beautiful renovated mansion built in 1935.
Storm King receives almost 200,000 visitors in an average year. “We get a lot of visitors from the Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and New York City, but they also come from places like Germany, France, Japan, and Brazil,” says Nora.
Like most nonprofits, Storm King needs funding in order to continue operating. A great way to support this unique and beautiful place is to buy a membership or donate, which can open up special experiences.

“There’s no place like Storm King in the local region,” says Nora. “There’s nothing else that offers such an open and grand scale experience of art in nature. That’s really special.”
A permanent major commission is by artist Sarah Sze. “It’s a 36-foot diameter incomplete circle called Fallen Sky,” says Nora. “The top, which faces up towards the sky, is mirrored stainless steel, so you can look into it and see not only your face, but the sky and clouds and trees as well. It kind of brings the sky and the heavens down to earth. Sarah has also done a temporary installation that will be in our largest indoor gallery.”
Storm King Art Center recently unveiled Arlene Shechet: Girl Group, the most ambitious exhibition yet of Arlene Shechet’s outdoor sculpture, and the first to pair this body of work with her iconic indoor ceramics. The exhibition debuts six new large-scale commissions—spanning heights of ten to twenty feet and lengths of up to thirty feet—along with complementary indoor works in wood, steel, and ceramic. The exhibit also includes ceramic sculptures and modular benches and is on view from May 4November 10, 2024.

EXPLORING THE NAS WILDWOOD AVIATION MUSEUM
ARTICLE BY BEN MEYER | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

In the heart of Wildwood, New Jersey, nestled within the historic confines of Hangar #1, lies a treasure trove of aviation history. Founded in 1997 by Dr. Joseph Salvatore and his wife Annie, the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum is not just a museum; it’s a testament to passion, perseverance, and the indomitable spirit of community.
The museum’s journey began when Dr. Salvatore, inspired by memories of aircraft soaring over Wildwood from his childhood, refused to let Hangar #1 fade into obscurity. With the support of the local community, they transformed the dilapidated hangar into a vibrant museum that now houses over 25 historic aircraft and interactive exhibits.
“Hangar #1 is listed on the national and state registers of historic places”, says Austin Myers NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum, Events & Communications Manager. “
Step inside Hangar #1, and you’ll find yourself immersed in the rich tapestry of World War II aviation history. From the Douglas Fir timbers that form the very bones of the hangar to the poignant stories of the 42 Naval Aviators who lost their lives, every corner of the museum resonates with the legacy of that significant period.
But it’s not just about preserving the past; it’s about bringing it to life. Austin shares that “You can even sit in the cockpit of an actual aircraft and climb a real air traffic control tower, or explore exhibits showcasing lesser-known aspects of WWII history, like the presence of German POWs in Cape May County.”
The museum’s collection is equally impressive. For fans of Top Gun , iconic aircraft like the F-14 Tomcat and the F-5 Tiger await, alongside rarities like the TBM Avenger torpedo bomber, the same type flown by President George Bush Sr. during WWII.
Preserving these historical artifacts requires meticulous care, a task undertaken with dedication by the museum’s staff. Take, for instance, the restoration of the F6F-3 Hellcat, rescued from the depths of the Pacific Ocean and painstakingly brought back to its former glory by the skilled hands of restoration experts.
But the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum isn’t just a static display; it’s a vibrant hub of activity, hosting events that bring the community together. From the Wings & Things Arts and Crafts Festival to the annual AirFest, there’s always something exciting happening at Hangar #1.
Looking to the future, the museum continues to evolve and expand. Recent restoration projects have revitalized Hangar #1, while upcoming initiatives like the STEAM gallery promise to enrich the visitor experience further. And with plans to host international exhibits like “The Longest Yarn,” commemorating the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the museum’s reach extends far beyond its historic walls.
So, whether you’re an aviation enthusiast, a history buff, or simply looking for a unique adventure, take flight into the past at the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum. Because here, history isn’t just preserved—it soars. www.usnasw.org
