An Industry Comes Together

What

an incredible October it's been

for our industry!

As I write this, I'm still processing the amazing experience we just had in Charleston at the inaugural GolfCarting Expo & Dealer Summit. Despite some rainy weather, over 1,100 people showed up—more than 600 dealers, 45 exhibitors, and countless industry professionals from coast to coast. The energy, the conversations, the connections made—it all

exceeded anything we could have imagined for a firstyear event.

The feedback has been overwhelming. Dealers told us the education sessions were unlike anything they'd experienced before. Exhibitors said every conversation mattered because they were talking to their ideal customers. And the camaraderie? Unmatched. From the VIP reception to the golf cart showcase, we watched an industry come together in ways that simply don't happen at general trade shows.

We're already planning for 2026, and trust me—it's going to be even bigger. October 1-3 back in Charleston, with double the expo floor space. If you missed this year, don't make that mistake again.

This month's cover story is a perfect example of the innovation happening in our industry. The Club Car CRU isn't just another golf cart—it's a complete reimagining of what neighborhood transportation can be. With its face-to-face seating and social-first design, Club Car has created something genuinely different. It's the kind of bold thinking that's pushing our industry forward.

We're also exploring Sanford, Florida—a historic gem that's embraced golf cart culture in authentic ways— and sharing our picks for quality carts under $10,000, because not everyone needs all the bells and whistles to enjoy the ride.

Thank you to everyone who made the Expo a success. You proved what we've always believed: this industry deserves its own dedicated platform, and together, we're building something special.

See you on the road,

Club Car

RedefiningMobilityNeighborhood with Social-First Design

CLUB CAR'S INNOVATIVE STREET-LEGAL LSV COMBINES

AUTOMOTIVE FEATURES, ELECTRIC PERFORMANCE, AND UNIQUE SOCIAL LAYOUT TO CREATE A CATEGORY-DEFINING VEHICLE

In an industry where innovation often means incremental improvements to existing designs, Club Car has taken a dramatically different approach with the CRU—a street-legal low speed vehicle (LSV) that reimagines what local transportation can be. Originally launched in 2023 and recently enhanced with new lithium battery options, this Augusta, Georgia-designed and assembled vehicle isn't simply a golf cart with road-legal upgrades or an electrified minicar; it's

a purpose-built social experience on wheels that challenges conventional thinking about how we move through our communities.

BEYOND TRANSPORTATION: A MOBILE SOCIAL HUB

What immediately distinguishes the CRU from other low-speed vehicles is its revolutionary "social-first" seating configuration. Unlike traditional forward-facing layouts, the CRU features face-to-face seating centered around a removable table, creating what Club Car calls "a mobile gathering spot." This arrangement transforms everyday trips into social experiences, encouraging conversation and connection rather than merely focusing on the destination.

“CRU is a totally new way to enjoy the mobile-social life. With its street-legal status, reliable lithium battery powertrain, and eye-catching design, the CRU offers a fresh new experience for people and their active lives,” said Cindy Eley, CRU Product Manager at Club Car. “CRU’s uniqueness extends even to resorts shuttling people on vacation, and colleges and universities driving athletes around on campus.”

The removable center table includes integrated cup holders, providing a functional surface for everything from morning coffee to evening refreshments. Combined with the open-air design and 360-degree views, the CRU creates an experience more akin to gathering on a porch or patio than traditional transportation.

PERFORMANCE ENGINEERED FOR NEIGHBORHOOD LIFE

While the social design makes the CRU stand out visually, its technical specifications demonstrate Club Car's engineering expertise. Available in three distinct powertrain configurations, the CRU balances performance, range, and price to meet diverse consumer needs.

The flagship 16kW Lithium model delivers impressive range (53-75 miles) with six 16kW 210Ah maintenance-free lithium batteries. The mid-range 8kW Lithium version offers a more budget-friendly option with three 8kW 105Ah batteries and 25-40 miles of range. For traditional buyers, a Flooded LeadAcid option provides reliable performance with 15-20 miles of range.

All three models feature permanent magnet AC motors delivering 10HP continuous/30HP peak output, easily reaching the federally mandated 25 mph maximum speed for LSVs. Electric power steering with tilt column comes standard, providing car-like comfort and control, while four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes ensure reliable stopping power.

STREET-LEGAL BY DESIGN

Unlike converted golf carts that often struggle to meet road regulations, the CRU was engineered from the ground up to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 500 for Low Speed Vehicles. This design-forward approach is further enhanced by adherence to the more stringent automotive SAE J2358 standard, which includes Seat Belt Anchorage requirements and Occupant Protective Structure for rollover protection.

"CRU is a fully street-legal LSV under USDOT rules and can be driven on most public roads, with posted speed limits up to 35 mph—and in some states, even 45 mph," Eley explains.

DESIGNED FOR CUSTOMIZATION

Understanding that personal expression is central to vehicle ownership, Club Car has made customization a core aspect of the CRU experience. Buyers can select from bold or subtle dash colors, color-matched side mirrors, various seat color options, and other personalization features.

"Whether you want sleek and sporty or one-of-a-kind, these upgrades let you fine-tune every detail to fit your vibe," says Eley.

This personalization extends to the driving experience itself. With its 115-inch wheelbase, 5.5-inch ground clearance, and independent double A-arms with coil-over shocks in front, the CRU delivers comfortable handling in various environments. The solid rear axle with a panhard rod provides stability while maintaining the vehicle's 1,775-1,915 lb curb weight (depending on battery configuration).

PREMIUM FEATURES WITHOUT PREMIUM COMPLEXITY

Despite its innovative design, the CRU remains practical and accessible. Charging is handled via a standard onboard charger

using a regular 110V-120V household outlet—no special charging equipment required. The vehicle's 69.5-inch width (65 inches with mirrors folded) and 148-inch overall length make it maneuverable in tight spaces while still accommodating six passengers comfortably.

With a starting MSRP of $25,680, the CRU represents a significant investment compared to basic golf carts, but its street-legal classification, automotive-grade features, and unique social layout position it as a lifestyle choice rather than merely a utility vehicle. The generous 5-year warranty on lithium models (3 years for lead-acid) further demonstrates Club Car's confidence in their creation.

REDEFINING LOCAL TRANSPORTATION

What makes the CRU particularly noteworthy is how it challenges assumptions about neighborhood transportation. While many LSVs attempt to mimic traditional automotive designs in miniature, Club Car has embraced the opportunity to create something entirely different—a vehicle that

prioritizes social connection and local exploration.

"Sometimes, the CRU itself is the destination. Sometimes, it’s all about the ride," explains Club Car. "No matter where you’re headed, the CRU turns every mile into a spontaneous adventure."

For communities designed around golf cart transportation, retirement villages, master-planned neighborhoods, and urban areas with growing micro-mobility options, the CRU represents a compelling vision of how local transportation might evolve—focusing not just on getting from point A to point B, but on enriching the journey itself.

In a market increasingly crowded with both traditional golf carts upgraded to street-legal status and new carts that still look and act like traditional golf carts, the Club Car CRU stands apart by asking an entirely different question: What if your neighborhood vehicle wasn't just transportation, but a place to connect with friends, family, and community? The answer is as refreshing as it is innovative.

YOUR ONLINE REPUTATION: MANAGING REVIEWS THAT MATTER

YYour online reputation is now your dealership's first impression. Before customers visit your showroom or pick up the phone, they're reading what others say about you online. Managing your online reviews and reputation isn't optional – it's essential to your dealership's success and growth.

UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACT

Online reviews influence purchasing decisions more than almost any other marketing factor. Consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations from friends and family. For golf cart dealers, this means your Google reviews, Facebook ratings, and website testimonials directly impact your bottom line.

Reviews also provide valuable operational insights. Negative reviews often highlight issues you might not otherwise discover. Positive reviews tell you what customers value most, helping you focus your marketing and service priorities.

Search engines use reviews as ranking factors. Dealerships with more reviews, higher ratings, and consistent fresh feedback typically rank higher in local search results, creating a compound effect where better reviews lead to better visibility and more customers.

CREATING A REVIEW GENERATION SYSTEM

Most satisfied customers won't leave reviews unless you ask. The key is creating a systematic approach that makes requesting reviews a natural part of customer interactions.

Identify optimal moments to request reviews – shortly after a successful sale, after a service appointment that resolved an issue, or when customers express satisfaction. These moments capture genuine enthusiasm while the positive experience is fresh.

Make leaving reviews easy. Send direct links to your Google Business Profile or Facebook page with clear, simple instructions. The fewer steps required, the more reviews you'll receive.

Train your entire team to request reviews. Service writers, sales staff, and delivery personnel should all feel comfortable asking satisfied customers to share their experiences. Never offer incentives for positive reviews, as this violates platform policies.

RESPONDING TO POSITIVE REVIEWS

Positive reviews deserve acknowledgment. Responding demonstrates that you value customer input and pay attention to feedback. These responses also provide opportunities to reinforce your brand message.

Keep responses genuine and personalized. Reference specific details from the review to show you actually read their feedback. If customers mentioned team members by name, acknowledge those contributions.

Use positive review responses to reinforce your values. If customers praised your service, you might respond: "We're thrilled you experienced the personalized attention we strive to provide every customer."

Remember that potential customers are watching how you interact. Thoughtful responses demonstrate the care that attracted positive reviews in the first place.

HANDLING NEGATIVE REVIEWS

How you respond to criticism often matters more than the criticism itself. Potential customers reading negative reviews pay close attention to your responses, judging your character and customer

dealereducation

service commitment.

Respond quickly, ideally within 24 hours. Quick responses show you take feedback seriously. However, take time to craft thoughtful, professional responses rather than reacting emotionally.

Start by acknowledging the customer's experience and expressing genuine regret. Even if you believe the review is unfair, validate that they feel disappointed. "I'm sorry you had this experience" costs nothing and often de-escalates tension.

Take responsibility where appropriate without making excuses. Customers respect honesty and accountability. Offer to resolve issues offline: "I'd like to discuss this further. Please call me directly so we can resolve this properly."

Never argue publicly. State your perspective calmly and factually, then invite private conversation. Other readers will judge whether the reviewer or your response seems more reasonable.

MONITORING YOUR REPUTATION

Establish systems for tracking reviews across all relevant platforms. Monitor Google Business Profile, Facebook, and industry-specific review sites at minimum. Set up Google Alerts for your dealership name to catch mentions elsewhere.

Review metrics regularly. Track your average rating, number of reviews, response rate, and response time. Monitor trends – are ratings improving? Are certain issues mentioned repeatedly? This data helps identify operational improvements.

Assign responsibility for review monitoring and response. Whether it's the owner, manager, or designated team member, someone needs to own this process consistently.

LEVERAGING REVIEWS IN MARKETING

Your best reviews are powerful marketing assets. Feature customer testimonials on your website, in email marketing, and on social media. Real customer voices carry more credibility than any marketing copy you could write.

Create case studies from detailed positive reviews. Use review excerpts in advertising – short, powerful quotes from satisfied customers add authenticity to ads and marketing materials.

Display your ratings prominently. If you maintain strong ratings, make sure website visitors can easily see this social proof through rating widgets or review feeds.

THE LONG-TERM STRATEGY

Building and maintaining a strong online reputation is ongoing work, not a one-time project. Focus first on delivering experiences worth reviewing positively. No amount of review management can overcome consistently poor service.

Make continuous improvement based on review feedback. When multiple customers mention the same issue, address it. When customers consistently praise specific aspects, double down on those strengths.

Your online reputation affects every aspect of your business –customer acquisition, search visibility, employee recruitment, and vendor relationships. Investing in reputation management pays dividends across your entire operation.

The dealerships that thrive understand that online reviews aren't just feedback – they're opportunities to showcase values, demonstrate customer service commitment, and differentiate from competitors. When managed strategically, your online reputation becomes one of your most valuable business assets.

Industry Unites

Inaugural GolfCarting Expo Exceeds All Expectations

Despite cooler temperatures and intermittent rain, more than 1,100 people gathered in Charleston, South Carolina, October 8-11 for the inaugural GolfCarting Expo & Dealer Summit. The event brought together over 600 dealers, 47 exhibitors, manufacturers, and industry professionals from across the country—from California to New York, Colorado to Florida, and everywhere in between—proving that the golf cart industry was ready for its own dedicated trade event.

"From the beginning, we wanted this show to be a collective effort—one that recognizes our vendors, sponsors, and dealers as true partners," said Christian Amico, Co-Founder of the GolfCarting Expo and CEO of GC Media Group.

"Seeing our vision come together with the support of our team, close friends and family is truly something to be proud of. Together, we'll continue to grow and make this show the best it can be. We are beyond grateful to everyone who attended, contributed, and helped make it all possible."

“The Expo definitely exceeded our expectations,” said Nick DiStasio, Co-Founder of the GolfCarting Expo and Owner of Carts, Inc. “I look forward to

planning next year’s event and doing everything we can to help the industry evolve.”

AN EVENT UNLIKE ANY OTHER

What set the GolfCarting Expo apart was its comprehensive approach to serving the industry. Rather than simply providing exhibition space, the event combined education, networking, and hands-on product exposure tailored specifically to golf cart dealers and enthusiasts.

The education component proved to be a highlight. Eighteen sessions covered critical topics including sales strategies, marketing techniques, leadership development, battery technology, motor and controller systems, rental programs, and extended warranties—all specifically designed to address the unique challenges facing today's golf cart dealers.

"We heard from so many dealers that the education was awesome," noted Matt White, Editor of GolfCarting Magazine and Co-Founder of the event. "Nothing like this has ever been done for the golf carting industry, and it was clearly a huge hit.

We will be expanding our education offerings next year."

"If you are a dealer and you are looking for a way to get some real education for your team, a less busier place to interact with OEM's and suppliers, or maybe even just a more affordable option than PGA then THIS IS YOUR PLACE," said Bryan McCoy, Owner of McCoy Custom Carts.

The main stage featured a special Q&A session with Travis Andrews and Cory Osteen from Golf Carts Modified, hosted by Matt White. The conversation explored what it's like running the largest online community in the golf cart space, their vision for the industry's future, and candid reflections on what they would have done differently knowing what they know now.

FOUR DAYS OF CONNECTION AND CELEBRATION

The event kicked off Wednesday evening with a VIP Reception that set the tone for the days ahead. More than 200 dealers and exhibitors gathered for food, drinks, and networking, accompanied by a live DJ. Sponsored by CartGuard, Trojan Battery, and Denago EV, the reception created immediate connections that would strengthen throughout the event.

Thursday brought the expo floor to life with exhibitions running alongside eight hour-long educational workshops. The combination allowed attendees to balance learning with product discovery and relationship building.

Thursday evening's celebration featured several hundred dealers and exhibitors enjoying prime rib and turkey carving stations, a live band, and free drinks. Navitas Vehicle Systems, Bintelli, and Crown Battery sponsored the evening's festivities.

Friday delivered another full day on the show floor with ten additional 30-minute education sessions and the Golf Carts Modified Q&A. The day concluded with a happy hour sponsored by Crown Battery, Denago EV, E-Z-Go, and Venom EV.

A special thank you event at Top Golf, sponsored by DealerDirect, provided exhibitors and vendors with dedicated appreciation and relationship-building opportunities.

OPENING TO THE PUBLIC

Saturday brought a new dimension to the event as the doors opened to consumers from 10am to 4pm. Many dealers remained for this final day, recognizing the value of connecting with potential customers and enthusiasts. Ryan Martin from Discovery Channel's Street Outlaws made a special appearance for meet-and-greets and autograph signings, and served as guest judge for the GolfCarting Showcase.

The event concluded with the GolfCarting Showcase,

where owners displayed their creative and unique golf carts across multiple categories. The competition highlighted the incredible customization and innovation happening in the industry:

• MOST INNOVATIVE: Venom EV

• CLEANEST CART: David Aldridge

• MOST UNIQUE: Club Car CRU TALLEST CART: Cory Osteen

• LOWEST CART: Andy Fisher

• BEST SOUND: Eric Shadoan

• BEST PAINT: Paul Pryor

• BEST LIGHT SHOW: Paul Pryor

• BEST SEATS: Geri Legg (BackSpin Seating)

• MOST CUSTOM: Cory Osteen

• BEST OF SHOW: Cory Osteen

EXCEEDING EXPECTATIONS

Perhaps the most telling measure of the event's success came from the feedback received from both dealers and exhibitors. As a first-time event, many had been understandably hesitant to invest their time and resources. However, the reality exceeded expectations.

"We didn't have a single bad conversation all day," noted Chris Jones at Eco Battery after the first day of the event—a sentiment echoed throughout the show.

"The feedback we received from our dealers and customers was overwhelmingly positive. Everyone expressed genuine excitement and enthusiasm," said Bryan Porter, Business Manager, Parts and Accessories at Yamaha Golf Car Company. "We're truly grateful to be part of this new journey and look forward to being a part of the continued growth and success ahead."

Exhibitors particularly appreciated the quality of attendees. These weren't casual browsers—they were qualified dealers and serious enthusiasts actively seeking products, relationships, and solutions. Many exhibitors signed up for the 2026 event before this year's show even concluded.

LOOKING FORWARD

The success of the inaugural GolfCarting Expo has energized plans for 2026. The event will return to the Charleston Area Convention Center October 1-3, 2026, with the expo floor doubling in size to accommodate growing interest. Preregistration and early registration options for both exhibitors and dealers is available at GolfCartingExpo.com.

The three founders—Matt White (Editor of GolfCarting Magazine and Host of GolfCartingTV), Christian Amico (CEO of GC Media Group), and Nick DiStasio (Owner of Carts, Inc)— are ecstatic with both the turnout and the overwhelmingly

positive feedback.

For an industry that has long shared space at general outdoor recreation shows, the GolfCarting Expo proved that golf carts deserve—and can support—their own dedicated platform. The combination of targeted education, meaningful networking, and comprehensive product exposure created an experience that addressed real industry needs while building lasting relationships.

As dealers and exhibitors head home to implement new strategies, explore new partnerships, and prepare for another year of business, one thing is clear: the golf cart industry now has an event to call its own, and it's only going to get bigger and better from here.

AROUND $10,000 AND UNDER 5 GREAT OPTIONS

Looking for a quality golf cart without breaking the bank?

We've picked out 5 models in the $10,000-and-under range that we believe are worth taking a look at from brands like Club Car, MadJax, Tara, Yamaha, and Evolution. This lineup includes both 2-passenger and 4-passenger options, so whether you're looking for a cart to take on the course or something to cruise around with friends and family, we've got you covered.

In this guide, we cover starting prices, power options, available colors, and what each of these models offers in this price range. The information provided in this list is compiled from market research and feedback from current owners. Our goal is to make your golf cart search easier by highlighting models that deliver the best bang for your buck. We've gathered details directly from each brand's website, but please note that the level of information available can vary across manufacturers. Additionally, some variations of these models will retail for above the $10,000 price range, so keep that in mind.

Color Options: Onyx, Aspen, Caribbean Holiday, Leaf, Ocean, Chili Pepper
Power Options: ECO Lithium Battery 60Ah or upgrade to ECO Lithium Battery 105Ah

Why We Like It: Brought to us from one of the most wellknown names in golf cart accessories, Nivel, the MadJax ESeries has a ton of curb appeal in our opinion, with clean body lines, and the 12" GTW Spyder wheels with black and machined accents give it a clean, modern look. At under $9,000, you're getting nice touches like color-accented seating, a premium steering wheel, and a 7" LED display to give you all your essential cart info right at your fingertips.

The rear seat includes built-in storage and a grab bar, while front and rear cup holders keep your cocktails secure (unless you're the driver of course). The roof has grab handles, and you also get side mirrors and a clear foldable windshield. Additionally, the onboard charger ensures easy operation and keeps you up and running.

2. CLUB CAR ONWARD 2 PASSENGER

Starting Price: $9,475

Color Options: Metallic Tuxedo Black, Metallic Jade Green, Metallic Glacier White, Metallic Sea Foam, Metallic Signature Silver, Metallic Blue Onyx, Metallic Cashmere, Rally Red, Metallic Brilliant Blue, Pearl Mist Grey

Power Options: Standard Electric Flooded Lead Acid with Trojan T-875 batteries, includes shelf charger with 9' DC cord. This unit also comes in gas, or you can choose to upgrade to several different lithium options, but that'll take you well over the $10,000 price range.

Why We Like It: Now look, this one isn't going to have all the bells and whistles, but you can sleep tight at night knowing you have a model like this in your garage that's super reliable and has proven the test of time. You get solid basics like upper

center storage with a cell phone holder, plus side storage on both left and right with golf ball and tee holders built in. We'd recommend upgrading the dash to get the 7" color touch screen that gives you speedometer, turn signal indicators, battery status, drive mode settings, and more.

The seat options are straightforward - beige, white, gray, or black - and you can choose between no canopy or adding one. Three wheel options let you customize the look, from the standard 10" Mercury wheels up to 12" Athena wheels in either gloss black with machined accents or bright chrome. We think the bright chrome really sets off the look. While you have to keep it pretty stock to get around the $10,000 price range, there are tons of cool add-ons you can dress this cart up with if you're willing to splurge a little.

3. EVOLUTION D5-RANGER 4

Starting Price: $8,695

Color Options: Arctic Gray, Black Sapphire, Flamenco Red, Lime Green, Mediterranean Blue, Mineral White, Portimao Blue, Sky Blue

Power Options: 48V Lithium Battery

Why We Like It: Evolution continues to be a popular choice for new cart owners with models like this D5-Ranger 4, and at under $8,700, it's definitely a lot of bang for your buck. That 9" touchscreen is the real deal, giving you control over everything from your sound system to cart settings. Speaking of sound, the cuboid Evolution sound bar makes sure you're able to bump your favorite track on the go.

We love the two-tone seats that match whatever exterior color you pick. The adjustable steering column means drivers of all sizes can get comfortable, along with the armrests for each passenger. There is plenty of storage space to keep your things secure in the trunk and you can add an optional golf bag holder if you're actually taking this thing on the course. Those silent tires with off-road tread mean you can cruise the neighborhood quietly but still handle rougher terrain when needed. It's safe to say this bad boy is versatile.

golfcarts

4. TARA ROADSTER 2

Starting Price: $8,999

Color Options: Pearl White, Flamenco Red, Arctic Gray, Mediterranean Blue, Black Sapphire, Sky Blue Power Options: 48V 105Ah Lithium Battery

Why We Like It: Here's a fresh face on the scene that's definitely worth keeping an eye on. Tara is the newer brand from the makers of Evolution, and the Roadster 2 shows they're not messing around when it comes to features. The tech game is strong with this one, so you'll see a lot of similar features to the cart above. You'll get Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility, along with that cuboid sound bar with illuminated speakers to help curate the vibe. Not to mention the built-in dash refrigerator to keep your drinks cold, overhead storage for your essentials, and LED lighting with daytime running lights and high and low beams.

The aluminum frame keeps things light and should suit owners who are close to saltwater. Since this model is brand new to the market, we're still learning about realworld performance, but the feature list is impressive, and we wouldn't be surprised to see more of these on the course in years to come.

5. YAMAHA DRIVE2

Starting Price: $9,590

Color Options: Glacier, Carbon, Onyx, Coral Red, Pearl, Peridot, Titan

Power Options: Drive2 QuieTech EFI Gas or Drive2 PowerTech AC Electric (electric option pushes you over $10,000, lithium gets closer to $13,000)

Why We Like It: Alright, here's another rock-solid choice that's going to give you that same peace of mind as the Club Car. Yamaha has been in the game forever, and the Drive2 is their bread-and-butter model that just works, day in and day out. You're getting proven reliability with the QuieTech EFI gas engine, and like the name suggests, even though it's gas it's not going to be overly noisy like some other gas models. It may not have all the latest tech, but it's got all the

essentials covered - USB ports, along with a fuel gauge, LED tail lights, and that iconic Yamaha logo lit up with LEDs. The MA100 speaker/amp package by Millennia gives you quality sound without breaking the bank. Standard 10" black wheels look solid, but there are plenty of upgrade combinations if you want to personalize it. Golf-focused add-ons like the club and ball washer kit, sand bottles, and insulated cooler show Yamaha knows their audience. This is one of those carts that'll still be running strong years down the road.

FINAL THOUGHTS

These five carts show that while prices continue to climb, there are still many good options on the market around $10,000 or less. From the MadJax ESeries with its clean design and premium touches, to the rock-solid reliability of the Club Car Onward and Yamaha Drive2, there's something here for every type of buyer. The Evolution D5-Ranger 4 brings impressive features for the price, while the newer Tara Roadster 2 shows that fresh brands are bringing serious competition with tech and features that punch above their weight class.

Whether you're looking for a dependable workhorse that'll run for years or you want some of the latest bells and whistles without the premium price tag, each of these models delivers solid value in the $10,000-and-under range.

SANFORD, FLORIDA

WHERE HISTORIC CHARM MEETS MODERN CART CULTURE

A Central Florida gem blends rich heritage with a thriving golf cart community

Located just north of Orlando on the shores of Lake Monroe, Sanford, Florida, has carved out a distinctive identity as both a historic destination and an increasingly popular golf cart community. With its brick-lined streets, waterfront views, and vibrant downtown district, this city of around 60,000 residents offers something that larger cartfriendly communities sometimes lack: authentic small-town character paired with big-city conveniences.

A CITY BUILT ON HERITAGE

Sanford's story begins in 1870 when Henry Shelton Sanford purchased land along Lake Monroe, establishing a distribution point for goods traveling through Central Florida. The city's fortunes rose dramatically when it became a terminus for the South Florida Railroad in 1884. Though devastating freezes in 1894-95 decimated the citrus industry, those who stayed developed a substantial irrigation system, transforming Sanford into one of the largest vegetable shipping centers in the United States—earning it the nickname "Celery City."

Today, that rich history is visible throughout downtown Sanford, where turn-of-the-century architecture has been meticulously preserved. Picturesque First Street serves as the center of activity, showcasing unique shops, restaurants, art galleries, a historic theater, and a micro-brewery housed in beautifully restored buildings.

BUILDING A CART-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY

While Sanford has been known for its historic downtown and waterfront for generations, its emergence as a golf cart destination is more recent. In 2013, the Sanford City Commission enacted the city's first golf cart ordinance, establishing designated zones where registered carts could legally operate on public streets.

The response has been remarkable. Today, more than 800 golf carts are registered within Sanford's golf cart zone, and that number continues to grow as residents discover the convenience and enjoyment of cart-based transportation.

The city's golf cart permitted zone encompasses much of the historic downtown area and extends into surrounding residential neighborhoods.

THE HEART OF SANFORD'S CART COMMUNITY

At the center of Sanford's golf cart culture is the Sanford Golf Cart Gurus, a community-based Facebook group that has become synonymous with cart enthusiasm in the city. Founded shortly after the 2013 ordinance passed, the Gurus have embraced a mission that extends far beyond simply owning and operating golf carts.

"Sanford Golf Cart Gurus is the very heartbeat of Sanford," explains Victoria Huggins, one of the group's founding members. "We improve and amplify everything Sanford—from supporting all local businesses, events, churches, community groups, and everything Sanford. We are community, cart, family, fun!"

The group's vision centers on promoting, preserving, and enhancing Sanford's golf cart community while emphasizing their commitment to local engagement. "We live, work, love, and choose to spend our time and money in Sanford," Huggins notes.

True to that mission, the Sanford Golf Cart Gurus have participated in virtually every community event since the group's inception. Their involvement spans an impressive range of activities: parades, Fourth of July celebrations, Sofa & Suds festivals, the Holiday Tour of Homes, Jazz Festivals, community cleanup efforts, Sanford Zoo events, Trunk or Treat,

and Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium activities.

The group's flagship event is the Sanford Golf Cart Gurus Amazing Race, sponsored by Sanford Porchfest, which has been running for more than five years. This community-wide scavenger hunt-style competition brings cart enthusiasts together for a day of friendly competition while showcasing Sanford's historic charm and local businesses.

Beyond the Amazing Race, the Gurus organize and participate in charity events including the Pearlie May Foundation Poker Run, the Sanford Zoo Safari Poker Run, and the Light Up Sanford Christmas parade, demonstrating how golf carts can serve as vehicles for community engagement and charitable giving.

The Sanford Golf Cart Gurus welcome all locals who live in Sanford, own a golf cart, are interested in purchasing a golf cart, or simply want to participate in the group's charity events and community activities.

SUPPORTING THE CART LIFESTYLE

Sanford's golf cart infrastructure extends beyond just the regulatory framework. Rob Paul, a local entrepreneur, operates both the Bokey Lime Ride—a free shuttle service in downtown Sanford—and Sanford Golf Cart Rentals, providing visitors and residents alike with access to cart-based transportation.

“As a proud Sanford resident for over eight years, I’ve watched golf carts evolve into a true lifestyle in our community,” says Paul. “We love cruising downtown, connecting with friends, and enjoying everything Sanford has to offer, all from a cart. For those without one, that’s where Bokey Ride Lime and Sanford Golf Cart Rentals come in. We’re thrilled to be part of what keeps Sanford moving forward and standing out, while giving locals and visitors a chance to experience ‘Sanfording’ too.”

A DESTINATION WITH CHARACTER

What makes Sanford particularly appealing as a golf cart community is how seamlessly the carts integrate with the city's existing character. Rather than being purpose-built around cart transportation like some larger developments, Sanford has adapted its historic framework to accommodate this modern lifestyle enhancement.

The city's commitment to its past is evident everywhere. The city hosts numerous annual events including the Sanford Porchfest music festival, Asian Lantern Festival, and various farmer's markets and art walks that draw visitors from across the region.

Sanford also benefits from its proximity to the Orlando Sanford International Airport and Amtrak Autotrain, making it highly accessible to visitors while maintaining its distinctive small-city atmosphere. The city's tagline—"The Friendly City"—reflects a community culture that has warmly embraced golf cart transportation as an extension of its neighborly character.

For residents, the combination of historic architecture, waterfront amenities, cultural attractions, and golf cart-friendly streets creates a unique quality of life. Restaurants, movie theaters, bookstores, and service facilities are readily accessible by cart, with many establishments offering dedicated golf cart

parking areas and discounts when customers arrive by cart.

LOOKING FORWARD

As Sanford continues to grow and evolve, its golf cart community shows no signs of slowing down. The 800+ registered carts represent just the beginning of what city officials and residents envision as an expanding cart culture that complements Sanford's historic preservation efforts and community-focused development.

The success of the Sanford Golf Cart Gurus in fostering community engagement demonstrates how golf carts can serve as more than just transportation—they become catalysts for neighborhood connection, local business support, and civic participation.

Whether you're drawn to Sanford for its rich history dating back to the 1870s, its showcase waterfront along Lake Monroe, or its growing reputation as a golf cart-friendly destination, this Central Florida city offers a compelling blend of old and new. Here, brick-paved streets that once hosted horse-drawn carriages now welcome golf carts, creating a community where heritage and innovation ride side by side.

ASK THE MECHANIC

Q: My gas-powered Club Car is turning over and sounds like it's cranking, but it won't start. What's the most likely issue?

A: This is a very common problem with gas Club Car golf carts, and it often points to a worn-out starter-generator brush set. Unlike a car that has a separate starter and alternator, a gas Club Car uses a single unit called a starter-generator. This unit's primary job is to crank the engine when you press the accelerator, and once the engine is running, it switches functions to recharge the battery.

• THE BRUSHES: The brushes are small carbon blocks that ride on the commutator inside the starter-generator. Over time, these brushes wear down, and their electrical connection becomes weak.

• THE SYMPTOM: When you turn the key and press the pedal, the weak connection from the worn brushes is often just strong enough to make the engine turn over (crank) but not enough to generate a spark or get the motor to fire. The engine is essentially not getting enough consistent electrical power to start.

While you can often replace just the brushes, it's a good idea to inspect the commutator for wear and replace it if it's too damaged. If the problem persists after a brush replacement, you may need to look at other components like the spark plug, ignition coil, or fuel system.

Q: My electric EZGO stopped running. Upon inspection I noticed my solenoid was very hot. What can that mean?

A: A golf cart's solenoid is one of the hardest working components in the cart and vital for the cart to make a "connection" between the battery pack and the controller. Before you begin, make sure the cart is turned off, the key is removed, and the direction selector is in the neutral position with it being in tow mode (if applicable). It's also a good idea to disconnect the main battery pack positive cable.

CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE SMALL TERMINALS: These are the two small wires that connect to the solenoid's coil.

• Set your multimeter to the DC voltage setting (usually the 200V range).

• Place the red and black probes on the small terminals.

• Turn the key on and press the accelerator pedal. You should get a reading close to the full battery pack voltage (e.g., around 36V or 48V).

IF YOU GET A FULL VOLTAGE READING: This means the controller, key switch, and pedal switch are working correctly, and the solenoid itself is the most likely problem. It's getting the signal to activate but it’s not activating.

If you get no voltage reading: The issue is likely somewhere else in the cart's activation circuit, like a faulty key switch, forward/reverse switch, or the pedal microswitch.

CHECK FOR CONTINUITY ACROSS THE LARGE TERMINALS: These are the main power terminals.

• Turn the multimeter to the ohms or continuity setting.

• Place the probes on the two large terminals.

With the key off and the pedal released, the multimeter should show an open circuit (no reading).

With the key on and the pedal pressed (and the solenoid making its "click" sound), the multimeter should show very low resistance (close to 0 ohms). A reading higher than 0.4 ohms suggests the contacts inside the solenoid are burnt or dirty, and it needs to be replaced.

Occasionally the resistor on the solenoid may be faulty, to which provides a constant voltage supply to the control to inhibit any surge of power when activation occurs. You can check the resistor by removing it and measuring ohms between the two sides. If you have a 36v EZGO, the resistor should be rated at 250 ohms, on a 48 volt it's 500 ohms.

Lastly, either the solenoid activation circuit or field driver circuit in the controller may have been internally shorted, therefore a controller rebuild or replacement may be required.
