Letter from the Editor to open his own shop—keep an eye on this builder. THE CHOCOLATE CAKE PHILOSOPHY Our "Chocolate Cake" piece offers dealership owners a delicious metaphor for customer experience. Most businesses deliver single-layer cake—a good product with a sweet initial experience. But the best dealerships are like triple-layer chocolate cake, with unexpected positive touches layered throughout the customer journey. A follow-up email, a handwritten note, a helpful video at just the right time—these "frosting layers" transform satisfied customers into enthusiastic advocates.

A

s we kick off 2026, this month's issue of Golf Carting Magazine showcases the creativity, community, and innovation that make our industry so compelling. COVER STORY: ROADKILL On our cover, we're thrilled to feature "Roadkill"—Brian Harris's stunning rat rod build from 360 Golf Carts in Greenville, North Carolina. What began as a $60 haulaway became one of the most talked-about custom carts of 2025. Brian transformed a garage-kept 1991 E-Z-GO Marathon into a faithful tribute to hot rod culture, complete with a chemically-induced rust patina, exposed suspension, and bronze MODZ wheels. From acid-dipping stainless steel panels to achieve authentic rust to integrating a hidden beverage dispenser in the custom speaker box, every element demonstrates Brian's obsessive attention to detail. This build doesn't just look like a rat rod—it captures the spirit of hot rod culture in golf cart form. LOW AND SLOW We're also excited to share Brandon Lee's air-ride E-Z-GO TXT from Portsmouth, Virginia. Brandon discovered his passion for cart customization by accident earlier this year, and his Speedway Blue build with full air suspension proves he's a natural. What makes this story even better? His 8-year-old daughter helps with the builds. Brandon's already built four carts from the ground up and has plans

GAS CART BUYER'S GUIDE For those shopping for gas-powered carts, we've compiled our picks across four categories: the Yamaha Drive2 PTV for 2-passenger reliability, Club Car's Onward 4 Passenger for rust-proof versatility, the E-Z-GO Express 6 for family-sized adventures, and Cushman's Hauler 1200X for serious work capability. These models represent proven reliability backed by years of real-world performance. PGA SHOW POKER RUN Looking ahead to the PGA Show in Orlando (January 21-23), we're excited about the 2nd Annual Navitas/ Nivel PGA Poker Run happening Thursday evening, January 22nd, in the Reunion community. This charitable event brings dealers together for networking, custom cart showcases, and friendly competition—all while supporting humane societies in Jacksonville and Waterloo, Ontario. With an expanded sponsor lineup and impressive prize pool, this year's poker run builds on last year's successful inaugural event. If you're attending the PGA Show, don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow dealers and industry partners. As always, thank you for being part of the Golf Carting Magazine community. Whether you're building rat rods in your garage, fine-tuning your dealership's customer experience, or planning your trip to Orlando for the PGA Show, we appreciate you choosing to spend time with us each month. Here's to an incredible 2026!

PACE TECHNOLOGY LAUNCHES ENHANCED SPEED CONTROL Textron Specialized Vehicles Inc., a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company, now offers enhanced Speed Control functionality as a standard feature of its Pace Technology® platform. Available on most newer E-Z-GO ELiTE electric golf cars and Cushman ELiTE electric utility vehicles equipped with Pace Technology, this feature allows operators of golf courses, commercial and educational campuses, government installations, and other sites to control the speeds of their vehicles in geofenced areas, for enhanced safety in high-traffic zones or on difficult terrain. “Enhanced Speed Control is included as a standard component of the Pace Technology package, underscoring our commitment to providing essential functionality to our customers,” said Peter Claus, Vice President, Pace Technology for Textron Specialized Vehicles. “Customers who choose Pace Technology are investing not only in today’s solution, but in a platform that will continually deliver new, innovative features that enhance both the experience for drivers and efficiency for fleet operators.” In addition to Pace Technology, Textron Specialized Vehicles and its affiliates manufacture E-Z-GO golf cars, Cushman utility vehicles, and Jacobsen® and Ransomes® turf equipment. The Pace Technology software platform uses advanced GPS-based technology and is accessible to operators through a multitude of devices, including desktop and laptop computers, tablets and smartphones. Operators can monitor vehicle usage on their property, tracking location and activity, and

engaging in two-way communication with drivers if needed through audible alerts and in-vehicle screens. In addition to limiting vehicle speeds in geofenced areas using Speed Control, operators also can restrict vehicle usage in and around sensitive areas, such as water features and ornamental beds. Managers can easily add or alter new geofenced zones as needed, and provide different levels of privileges for specific users and vehicles. Pace Technology offers a robust and growing set of features to improve operating efficiency and the customer experience across a variety of applications. For example, golfcourse operators can use the system to monitor pace of play, protect turf, and provide an enhanced experience for golfers through features such as food-and-beverage ordering, live weather alerts and radar, and digital scorecard functionality. Commercial, educational and government facility managers can track the location of grounds and maintenance crews on their campuses, and limit vehicle speeds or restrict vehicle usage in pedestrian thoroughfares or other busy spaces. Brian Harris transforms a 1991 E-Z-GO Marathon into a show-stopping tribute to hot rod culture with meticulous attention to detail and innovative techniques

S

ome custom golf carts make you look twice. Others make you pull over, get out, and walk around them in disbelief while asking, "What in the world am I looking at?" Brian Harris's rat rod creation from 360 Golf Carts in Greenville, North Carolina, is firmly in that second category. With its intentionally weathered patina finish, exposed suspension, bronze-accented wide stance, and details that would make any hot rod enthusiast nod in appreciation, this build—appropriately named Roadkill— represents something rarely seen in the golf cart world: a faithful homage to automotive rat rod culture executed with precision and creativity that borders on obsessive. FROM $60 HAUL-AWAY TO SHOWSTOPPER The story behind this build is as unexpected as the cart itself. What began as a customer's unwanted 1991 E-ZGO Marathon destined for the scrap heap became Brian's canvas for one of the most talked-about custom carts of 2025. "A customer actually brought it in to have batteries put in, and once he found out how much batteries were

going to cost, he said, 'Man, I don't know if this cart's worth it,' Brian recalls. "As I looked at it, it was a very clean cart, and he said, 'How much would you charge me to haul it off?' I was like, 'Our standard $40 pickup delivery.' He was like, 'Well, here's 60 bucks—take care of it for me, I'll go buy another one.'" That $60 transaction proved fortuitous. When Brian put the cart on the lift, he discovered something rare: a 30-year-old E-Z-GO that had spent its entire life in a garage, resulting in exceptionally clean bones underneath decades-old bodywork. "I actually called him back and I was like, 'Man, where's this cart been at?', and he said it's actually been in a garage for about 30 years, which is pretty hard to find on an old E-Z-GO," Brian explains. Rather than part it out or flip it as-is, Brian saw potential for something special—a chance to build the rat rod golf cart he'd been envisioning. INSPIRATION STRIKES The concept crystallized after Brian saw a build from Kart King featuring a three-wheeler rat rod. "As soon as I saw it, I said, 'Man, I got to build a rat rod,' and that kind of gave me a little bit of inspiration," Brian notes. "Then we went to the drawing board and designed this." At 360 Golf Carts, Brian makes it a priority to create at least one "off the wall custom" each year—builds that push boundaries and showcase what's possible when creativity meets technical expertise. This rat rod would become the flagship project for 2025. 22 www.GolfCarting.com

ENGINEERING THE STANCE Achieving the aggressive, wide stance that defines the build required extensive modifications to the Marathon's original architecture. Brian started with 2015-and-newer E-Z-GO leaf springs, which are significantly longer than the original Marathon components. "The newer style E-Z-GO leaf springs are a lot longer, so that's going to bring out everything," Brian explains. "We did have to make custom shock mounts and adjust that. The guys over at GC MOD got us the steering conversions, so we did do the four-bolt steering conversion with all new components." A rare find made the stance even more dramatic: a threeinch E-Z-GO lowering kit. "And the thing about those, they've been extinct for quite a while, so we were able to get lucky and find one of those," Brian says. The width comes courtesy of three-inch spacers on each side—six inches total—creating the aggressive footprint that gives the cart its hot rod presence. "I’ve got about 200 miles on this cart now, and the bearings are still holding up," Brian notes, addressing the obvious concern about running significant spacers. Brian's long-term plan involves cutting and extending both the front and rear axles to eliminate the spacers entirely, but time constraints for an upcoming festival meant the spacers stayed for now. The custom steering shaft extension ensures everything functions properly despite the widened stance. Rolling on 23x10x14 tires mounted to 10-inch wide bronze MODZ wheels, the cart plants itself with authority. "That's

exactly the look I was going for—the widest wheel I could get possible with a bronze look that would kind of set off everything," Brian says. THE ART OF CONTROLLED RUST Perhaps the most striking aspect of the build is its finish—or more accurately, its intentional lack of traditional finish. The panels showcase a rust patina that looks like decades of weathering, yet the cart sat in a garage for 30 years. How did Brian achieve this seemingly contradictory finish? "The inspiration we had was originally going to be a paint job, and then I thought, 'What if we rust it?'" Brian explains. "And then I got thinking about these Marathon panels— they're actually stainless steel. And if you know about stainless steel, stainless steel does not rust." The solution required chemistry. Brian acid-dipped the panels to remove the chromium that gives stainless steel its rust-resistant properties. Once that protective layer was gone, he applied a mixture of salt, vinegar, and hydrogen peroxide, then let nature take its course—sort of. "We rusted the panels over several days until we got the color that we wanted, and then after that, did a matte clear over it," Brian says. The process extended to the steering wheel, originally chrome, which received the same rust treatment to match the body panels. Bronze accents throughout the cart—from the wheels to the seat plates to various trim pieces—complement

the weathered finish perfectly. TECHNOLOGY MEETS TRADITION While the exterior aesthetic celebrates vintage hot rod culture, the technology underneath is thoroughly modern. An Alpine lithium prototype battery—not yet available to the market when the cart was built—provides 105 amp hours in a compact package. A Navitas DC kit delivers 35 mph performance, appropriate for a cruiser rather than a speed demon. "We didn't want to go too fast with it," Brian explains. "This was going to be a cruiser, 35 mile an hour max, which is about what it runs." The real technological showcase happens in the audio system. Two SoundExtreme amplifiers—one mono block for the subwoofer, one four-channel for the speakers—run directly off the lithium battery without voltage reducers. A 10-inch EcoXGear SoundExtreme subwoofer barely fits in the custom floorboard enclosure, while four 6.5-inch speakers mount in a custom distressed wood box in the rear. "Trying to fit a 10-inch sub into that floorboard was interesting, but we made it just barely fit," Brian notes. The rear speaker box deserves special attention. Built from distressed wood with metal brackets mimicking traditional rat rod construction, it features a plexiglass panel with the 360 Golf Carts logo illuminated by color-changing LEDs. The frosted plexiglass creates a sophisticated look that contrasts

GOLF CARTING MAGAZINE 23

beautifully with the weathered aesthetic. But the best detail? A food-grade pump hidden in the box connects to a beverage dispenser. "You can't ever stay dry while you're driving in the neighborhood," Brian says with a grin. WIRING AS ART Ask Brian about the most time-consuming aspect of the build, and his answer is immediate: custom wiring. With lights, speakers, turn signals, backup camera, Android Auto screen, keyless ignition, and various accessories throughout the cart, creating a clean, integrated system required meticulous planning. "Probably the most time spent on the cart was planning and running all the wires to get it as clean as possible," Brian explains. "But there are a lot of wires. There's lights and speakers everywhere, a speedometer and everything else." The result is a system that looks factory-integrated despite being entirely custom. A MIC Tuning block controls accessories via button presses on the dash. The EcoXGear controller manages all lighting. Everything integrates with the turn signals—even the rear speakers light up in sync with turn signals and brake lights. The cart is fully street legal with turn signals, brake lights, backup lights, mirrors with integrated lights, and all required safety equipment. A rear-view camera feeds to the Android Auto screen, which also displays speedometer and battery information. COMFORT MEETS CHARACTER Lazy Life custom seats—featuring cool-touch black leather that stays comfortable even in direct sun—provide modern comfort within the vintage aesthetic. The brown briar-colored sections complement the bronze accents, while custom escalade stitching and embroidered 360 Golf Carts logos add 24 www.GolfCarting.com

personalized touches. "They did a fantastic job on these seats," Brian says. "The black part is actually their cool touch black leather, so it's about 20% cooler in the sun. You can actually sit on it without burning your legs." Custom hip restraints, color-matched to the wheels and bronze theme, complete the seating area. Every detail receives the same attention—from the rusted steering wheel to the custom dash integration to the distressed wood accents throughout. THE DETAILS THAT MATTER Brian's philosophy centers on attention to detail. "That's what we pride ourselves on—making sure all the details are good, because it's the little things that people actually notice," he explains. "If it's got one minor hiccup, it can kind of ruin the whole project." That philosophy extends to every aspect of the build. The custom front fascia integrates a seamless light bar. Factory rubber trim pieces, rare on a Marathon this old, were carefully preserved and refinished. The suspension modifications required custom leaf spring brackets to prevent fender rubbing. Even the motor—a MODZ high-speed unit—was selected specifically for this application. Future plans include cutting and extending both axles to eliminate the spacers and potentially adding rear shocks, but Brian's not rushing. "Right now, it's kind of something I've wanted to do for a while," he says. LIFE BEYOND THE BUILD Normally, Brian doesn't keep a personal golf cart. "I just kind of take one home as I need it because I get bored with things pretty quick," he admits. "I like to have a new golf cart around the house about every month or two." But this rat rod has proven different. "This one's kind of

stuck with me since I built it, and I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to get rid of it yet," Brian says. "But I'm sure that day will come." When he does drive it around Greenville, reactions are consistent. "Everybody goes, 'What is that?' And then usually the next question follows: 'How much?'" Explaining that the rusty, weathered cart started as a 1991 Carolina blue E-Z-GO Marathon typically elicits disbelief. "I tell them it's an E-Z-GO, they go, 'No way.' So then I have to pull up the original photos of how it started, and people are just amazed by it," Brian notes. That amazement translates to business. The rat rod serves as a rolling advertisement for 360 Golf Carts' capabilities, demonstrating Brian's willingness to tackle unconventional projects and execute them at the highest level. A PIECE OF ROLLING ART The rat rod from 360 Golf Carts represents something increasingly rare in custom golf cart builds: a faithful homage to another automotive culture executed with respect for that culture's values. This isn't a golf cart with rat rod styling bolted on—it's a thoughtful translation of hot rod philosophy into the golf cart medium. From the chemically-induced rust patina to the exposed

26 www.GolfCarting.com

suspension to the distressed wood accents, every element serves the overall aesthetic. Yet underneath that deliberately weathered exterior sits thoroughly modern technology— lithium power, sophisticated audio, integrated lighting, and street-legal functionality. It's this combination of old-school style and new-school substance that makes the build so compelling. Brian didn't just make a golf cart look like a rat rod; he captured the spirit of rat rod culture—the creativity, the attention to detail, the willingness to try unconventional techniques, and the pride in craftsmanship that defines the hot rod community. When people ask "What is that?" they're recognizing something special—a build that transcends typical golf cart customization to become genuine automotive art. And when Brian eventually does decide to part with it, some lucky enthusiast will own not just a custom golf cart, but a piece that represents the best of what's possible when creativity, technical skill, and dedication to detail come together. For now, though, Roadkill—that $60 haul-away turned showstopper—continues to cruise the streets of Greenville, stopping traffic and starting conversations, exactly what a proper rat rod should do.

WHY YOUR DEALERSHIP SHOULD BE MORE LIKE CHOCOLATE CAKE

Who loves chocolate cake? I do. In fact, my friends sometimes make fun of me and my love of chocolate. I drool over the Dove chocolate bar commercials. I moan a little when I bite into a Reese's Peanut Butter Egg. I'm a hot chocolate snob now, and can't believe anyone drinks hot chocolate from anywhere besides Starbucks. Okay. I realize I have a problem. But, that's not why we're here. Back to chocolate cake. And, I'm not just referring to plain old singlelayered chocolate cake. I'm talking about the kind with two or three layers of frosting and then cake and then frosting and cake and maybe even another layer of frosting and cake. For me, the best part is one of those middle layers of frosting, it moistens the layers of cake above and below. It gives the cake an extra bit of umph! What I realized recently is that a golf cart dealership has the opportunity to be like chocolate cake. Most products or services are like plain chocolate cake. We're excited for that outer layer of frosting. It's sweet and tasty. (We feel good about what we've bought.) Then, we take a deeper bite and get into the cake. Sometimes the cake (and our experience with the product or service) is delicious, moist and smooth. It's not quite as good as the frosting, but still altogether a pleasant experience. Other times, the cake is a little dry. We need the frosting to ensure the overall experience is a good one; and sometimes even that doesn't do the trick. We were sold on the frosting, but the cake didn't deliver. On the other hand, there's the double or triple layer chocolate cake. The frosting (our initial experience) is delicious, exactly what we

30 www.GolfCarting.com

expected. Then that first layer of cake is good, too. (We're pleased with the product weeks or months into using it.) And, then, BAM! We hit another layer of frosting. The cake around it tastes a little better than it did at first. (We received an email from the dealership where we bought the cart, sharing a little tip on how to use it more effectively.) The next layer of cake is even better than the first. That frosting above and below gives an added richness that you didn't expect. (A note arrives in the mail, asking how we're liking the cart and if there's anything we don't like about it!) The final layer of cake is so moist, so awesome, you just have to tell the world about this amazing piece of cake! (The dealership responded directly to a comment we sent back after that last note, and we updated our Facebook status with, "I love ABC Golf Carts. You've got to check them out!" and links to the dealership's website.) There are a ton of single-layer chocolate cake businesses out there, which opens up all kinds of opportunities to provide two or three or four layers with your product or service. What about you? What can you do to add a layer? An unexpected positive experience? An additional "touch" a week or two after a purchase? A how-to video sent just before a seasonal time when a golf cart is often used or requires service? The options are limitless, you just need to be intentional. A TOP PICK IN EACH CATEGORY

L

ooking for a gas golf cart, but not sure where to start? We've got you covered. Whether you're on the course, cruising the neighborhood, or tackling work tasks, there are plenty of great options on the market from brands like Yamaha, Club Car, E-Z-GO, and Cushman. In this guide, we highlight four standout gas-powered models: a 2-passenger, a 4-passenger, a 6-passenger, and a utility option with a work-ready bed. Our picks are based on hands-on experience, feedback from owners, and research across major manufacturers, helping you find a gas cart that you can count on. OUR PICK FOR A 2-PASSENGER GAS CART: YAMAHA DRIVE 2 PTV STARTING PRICE: $9,802 COLOR OPTIONS: Carbon, Coral Red, Glacier, Onyx, Pearl, Peridot, Racing Blue, Titan POWER OPTIONS: QuieTech EFI Gas Engine (357cc, single cylinder OHV) WHY WE LIKE IT: The Yamaha Drive2 has been a reliable

favorite for years, trusted by many golf courses and daily riders around the world. The QuieTech EFI gas engine lives up to its name with reduced engine noise at just 60.5 dB, making it one of the quietest gas-powered units you’ll find. The Yamaha Drive2 delivers 45 mpg and a top speed of 19 mph, with independent front and rear suspension for a smooth ride. It may not have all the latest tech, but it covers the essentials with standard USB ports and a fuel gauge/hour meter, with upgrade options like the MA100 speaker/amp package by Millennia to give you some tunes. Standard features include 10" black wheels and choice of stone seats and top or pay a little more and get the seat and top in black. There are plenty of upgrade options available, including our favorite wheel choices like the 12" V-Series Radial Black Machine Alloy Wheels or 14" R-Series wheels. Golffocused add-ons like the club and ball washer kit, sand bottles, and insulated cooler give you everything you need for the course. This is one of those carts that'll still be running strong years down the road. OUR PICK FOR A 4-PASSENGER GAS CART: CLUB CAR ONWARD 4 PASSENGER STARTING PRICE: $11,009 (non-lifted), $11,942 (lifted) COLOR OPTIONS: Rally Red, Metallic Cashmere, Metallic Signature Silver, Metallic Tuxedo Black, Metallic Glacier White, Metallic Blue Onyx, Metallic Jade Green, Pearl Mist Gray, Metallic Brilliant Blue POWER OPTIONS: 429cc Kohler EFI engine (14.0 HP) Why We Like It: The Club Car Onward has built a rock-solid reputation for quality, and the latest 4-passenger gas model continues that tradition. One of the reasons customers continue to choose Club Car is their aircraft-quality aluminum

frame, which means it won't rust or corrode over time. This is a huge advantage if you're in a coastal or humid environment, and it's one of the many reasons these carts hold their value so well. Just like the Drive2, this unit will also top out at 19 mph with its fuel-efficient 14HP Kohler engine. The Onward has a great boxy look to it and comes available in both non-lifted and lifted configurations. The lifted version comes standard with fender flares, a brush guard, larger 14" tires, and 4-5" of higher ground clearance and Club Car’s SportDrive™ suspension. Standard features include beige, white, gray, or black seats, with premium and elite seating options available if you want to upgrade. The standard instrument panel features a round color gauge with speedometer, turn signal indicators, and battery status. Club Car offers tons of customization options, from multiple wheel choices (we love the 14" Bright PVD Chrome Athena Wheel or 14" Gloss Black Zeus Wheel) to practical accessories like the Premium Sound Bar, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, HomeLink Garage Door Opener, and the Onward Rear Locking Trunk. If you need to tow, the receiver hitch is a useful add-on for hauling a small trailer. With a wide range of wheel, seating, and accessory options, the Onward 4 Passenger can be tailored to fit your style and needs. OUR PICK FOR A 6-PASSENGER GAS CART: E-Z-GO EXPRESS 6 STARTING PRICE: $13,674 (VARIES BY PACKAGE) COLOR OPTIONS: Standard: Ocean Grey, Slate, Electric Blue, Black, Bright White | Premium: Inferno Red, Platinum, Flame Red, Metallic Charcoal POWER OPTIONS: 13.5 HP Gas Engine with closed-loop EFI

golfcarts Why We Like It: The E-Z-GO Express 6 is built to take the whole crew along for the ride, with seating for six and extended legroom so everyone stays comfortable. The 13.5 HP gas engine delivers a top speed of up to 17 mph. E-Z-GO offers this model in multiple package levels, ranging from the base Touring S to the loaded Summit XTL. You're able to choose from non-lifted and lifted options, with higher trims adding features like fender flares, brush guards, and premium or luxury seating. The top-tier packages include E-Z-GO's Technology Package with a 10" ECOXGEAR touchscreen, 28" soundbar, and rearview camera, along with premium interior touches like a silver dash, lighted cup holders, USB-A and USB-C ports, and individual key switches. There are tons of wheel and tire options available, and you can add accessories like the Modular Overhead Infotainment Center with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Whether you need a beefier setup to handle rough terrain or a ride to cruise around the neighborhood with the family, the Express 6 can handle it all. OUR PICK FOR A GAS UTILITY CART: CUSHMAN HAULER 1200X GAS STARTING PRICE: While we were unable to find an MSRP, we believe it to be around $13,000 to $15,000 COLOR OPTIONS: Black, Bright White, Flame Red, Forest Green, Metallic Charcoal, Patriot Blue, Safety Yellow POWER OPTIONS: 13.5 HP EFI Gas Engine (401cc, Single Cylinder OHV) Why We Like It: If you need a cart that's built for work, the Cushman Hauler 1200X is calling your name. This isn't your typical golf cart with a bed thrown on the back. It comes

straight from the factory designed to transport tools, equipment, and supplies around your property or facility. The 13.5 HP EFI gas engine delivers a top speed of 16.5 mph. The standard 12 cubic-foot plastic cargo bed features integrated tie-downs to keep your gear secure, with a 500 lb bed load capacity and 1,200 lb towing capacity. You can also upgrade to an aluminum bed box or an aluminum flat bed if that is more what you are looking for. The lifted suspension provides 7 inches of ground clearance, making it capable of handling rough terrain while the turf-friendly tires provide traction without tearing up the ground. Cushman offers tons of practical accessories to customize your Hauler for specific jobs. Options include bed dividers, an electric bed lift to eliminate manual dumping, a 2-inch rear receiver hitch, brush guards, fender flares, and various tool holders. The OPS Package adds a canopy, windshield, seat belts, and mirrors for added protection and safety. Whether you're maintaining a golf course, managing a large property, or running a commercial operation, the Hauler 1200X is built to work as hard as you do. FINAL THOUGHTS You can rest assured that if you purchase any of these four models, you’re getting some of the most reliable and welltested golf carts on the market. These carts, or predecessors very similar to them, have been around for a long time and it’s no surprise why. They are dependable, consistent, and built for regular use. Whether you need a two-seater, a family-friendly layout, or a utility-focused model, each pick here represents a cart that’s designed to last. Ready to find your ideal gas-powered cart? DEALERS GEAR UP FOR SECOND ANNUAL NAVITAS/NIVEL PGA EVENT Thursday night tradition brings industry together for charity, camaraderie, and custom cart showcase in Reunion, Florida

W

hen hundreds of golf cart dealers descend on Orlando for the PGA Show each January, the real action doesn't end when the Orange County Convention Center closes for the day. About 25-30 minutes away in Kissimmee, the sprawling luxury community of Reunion transforms into the industry's after-hours hub, where leading brands host invite-only events, showcase their latest products, and bring dealers together in ways the convention floor simply can't match. On Thursday, January 22nd, the 2nd Annual Navitas/Nivel PGA Poker Run rolls through Reunion, combining friendly competition, charitable giving, and the chance to see some

of the most impressive custom builds in the industry—all while cruising through one of Central Florida's most beautiful communities on golf carts. BUILDING ON SUCCESS Last year's inaugural poker run faced challenging conditions— temperatures in the 40s and steady rain. Yet dealers showed up, visited each house, collected their cards, and celebrated the industry connections that make events like this invaluable. That success laid the foundation for this year's expanded event, which features more sponsors and an even stronger lineup of participating brands and prize donors. THE POKER RUN EXPERIENCE For a $30 entry fee, participating dealers begin at the Nivel

Parts house, then visit five sponsor houses throughout Reunion—Bolt Energy, Golf Carts Modified, ECO Battery, Sound Extreme (ECOXGEAR), and MODZ—collecting one playing card at each stop. After gathering all five cards, everyone converges at the Navitas Vehicle Systems house for food, drinks, and prize announcements based on the best poker hands. Each house stop offers something different—a chance to see new products, check out custom builds, connect with brand representatives, and network with fellow dealers in a relaxed setting that's impossible to replicate on a trade show floor. The event runs from 6:30 to 9:30 PM, giving dealers plenty of time to visit each location and enjoy the hospitality. SUPPORTING A GOOD CAUSE Entry fees and funds raised through the event will be split between the KW Humaine Society of Ontario and Ninna’s Road to Rescue, extending the event's impact beyond the golf cart industry and adding meaningful purpose to the evening. AN IMPRESSIVE SPONSOR LINEUP Major sponsors include Navitas Vehicle Systems, Nivel Parts, Golf Carts Modified, Bolt Energy, ECO Battery, Sound Extreme (ECOXGEAR), and MODZ—the seven brands hosting houses on

the poker run route. Additional sponsors supporting the prize pool include Boulevard Carts, Trojan Battery, FSIP, Red Hawk, Golf Carting Magazine (serving as media sponsor), Qomolander USA, Lithium Rhino, Slow Rides USA, Kart King, Cart Racks SC, and Golden Hour LEDs. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Todd Dussault at todd@navitasvs.com. The prize pool includes donations valued in the thousands. The Grand Prize is a Navitas chassis build fully outfitted with Nivel/Madjax parts and a 76v Bolt Energy battery, assembled by Kart King—valued at nearly $12,000 not including Kart King's build time. Additional prizes include MODZ wheels and tires, an LED kit and soundbar from Sound Extreme, a JBL soundbar from Red Hawk, a 51v lithium battery from Qomolander USA, and many more! BEYOND THE CARDS What makes the poker run special isn't just the competition or prizes—it's the opportunity for genuine connection. During the PGA Show, dealers and manufacturers operate in convention mode: meetings scheduled, conversations interrupted, interactions constrained by time limits. GOLF CARTING MAGAZINE 43

The poker run offers something different. Dealers can spend real time at each house, ask detailed questions, see custom builds up close, and have relaxed conversations with brand representatives. Each participating house showcases custom builds, demonstrates new products, and creates space for meaningful dialogue. For dealers, the event provides rare face time with peers from across the country. Running a golf cart dealership can be isolating—you're often the only one in your market dealing with specific challenges. The poker run creates space for dealers to share experiences, swap solutions, and build relationships that extend beyond the single evening. A GROWING TRADITION The poker run enhances the overall PGA Show experience, giving dealers reasons to extend their trips and maximize their time in Orlando. For sponsors, the return goes beyond brand exposure. They're building goodwill with dealer networks, creating memorable experiences that strengthen business 44 www.GolfCarting.com

relationships, and demonstrating commitment to the dealer community in tangible ways. Last year's weather-challenged inaugural event proved the concept works. This year's expanded sponsor list and refined logistics build on that success, potentially establishing the Navitas/Nivel PGA Poker Run as an annual tradition dealers mark on their calendars as soon as PGA Show dates are announced. ROLLING INTO YEAR TWO The route through Reunion is set. Sponsors are making plans for their houses and prize donations. Dealers from across North America are scheduled to be part of the second chapter in what's shaping up to be a lasting PGA Show tradition. For three hours on Thursday night, the golf cart industry will come together not in convention center aisles, but on the streets of Reunion—rolling from house to house, collecting cards, checking out builds, making connections, and supporting a good cause. That's the kind of evening that reminds everyone why they love this industry in the first place.

ASK THE MECHANIC Q: My Club Car electric golf cart is experiencing intermittent loss of power, but the solenoid is clicking. A diagnostic tool revealed a controller fault code indicating "Low Pre-Charge Voltage." What does that mean? A: The "Low Pre-Charge Voltage" fault indicates that the golf cart controller (or motor controller) is not seeing the expected voltage on its main B+ power bus before the main solenoid is commanded to close. This circuit is designed to slowly "precharge" the large filter capacitors inside the controller. This prevents a large, damaging current inrush (a high initial surge) when the main solenoid contacts close. If the pre-charge circuit is open or has high resistance, the controller can detect this state and prevent the solenoid from closing its main contacts, or it may trigger a fault after the solenoid attempts to close, leading to the intermittent power loss. Replacing the resistor that runs across the two large lugs of the solenoid will typically fix this issue. Q: My gas golf cart engine starts and runs perfectly fine, but when I press the accelerator, the engine just revs up loudly, and the cart barely moves, or doesn't move at all but the drive belt looks like it's spinning. A: The most likely cause is the CVT drive belt is slipping severely or the secondary clutch is stuck. Inspect the belt. Look for smooth, glazed, or cracked rubber on the sides, or if the belt appears too loose. If the sides of the belt are smooth/ glazed, it indicates severe slipping and the belt must be 48 www.GolfCarting.com

replaced. With the engine off, the belt should be riding low in the driven (secondary) clutch sheaves. If the belt is sitting high, the driven clutch may be stuck in the high-speed ratio, preventing the cart from getting the low-end torque needed to start moving. Q: My electric golf cart charger does not turn on when I plug it into the wall and into the cart. What could be the reason for this? A: The most common reason is the charger's internal circuit breaker or relay, which prevents charging when the battery is completely dead, has not been triggered. The charger is looking for a minimum voltage from the pack. Most 48 volt chargers require the entire battery pack to have a minimum voltage of at least 35-40 volts to safely initiate the charge cycle. If the pack is below this threshold due to a long period of disuse or a dead cell, the charger remains off. To get the voltage of the pack above the minimum activation threshold, connect a 12 volt battery charger across the positive and negative terminals of the entire golf cart battery pack for a short period (1-2 hours). This small, low-amp boost should raise the overall pack voltage enough to allow the main golf cart charger to recognize the pack and turn on automatically. This must be done carefully, monitored closely, and only until the voltage is sufficient to trigger the main charger.
