Too Much Talent for Just One Stage

New York-themed Cirque du Soleil show delivers a top-notch, adults-only experience

If you’re a fan of America’s Got Talent but wish that network show could be a bit more edgy in nature, Mad Apple by Cirque du Soleil is the show for you. The acts on display at this tribute to the energy and excitement of New York City are all worthy of winning the million dollars on AGT, and the framework in which they are presented is distinctly adult.

What really sets Mad Apple apart from other variety shows is the setting: It really feels like you’re entering a nightclub. There are two bars that serve drinks 30 minutes before the show begins, one along the front of the stage and one onstage for VIPs. While at the bar, don’t be surprised to find yourself hobnobbing with a cast member—they walk among the crowd to help everyone get in a festive mood. Not having to go to the lobby to get your drink (and possibly missing some of the show in the process) is a seriously cool element.

Another aspect that adds to the nightlife vibe is the live band and backup singers, who deliver atmosphere to spare with songs like “Boogie Wonderland” and “Ain’t No Stoppin’ Us Now.” But the band pulls out some New York-tinged surprises too, like the opening clarinet of “Rhapsody in Blue.”

Entertainment here includes balancing acts (you won’t breathe until it’s over), aerialists (we dare you to keep your mouth closed), basketball acrobats (your hands will hurt from clapping) and contortionists (we won’t blame you for putting your hands over your eyes). Weaving this all together is a real air of comedy, extremely adult in nature, we might add. It comes not only from the overall tone of the show, but from actual stand-up comedians, some of whom have actually appeared on—you guessed it— America’s Got Talent. But now they aren’t on network television, so … you might hear some slightly different material that’s for adult ears only. –Ken Miller

Hittin’ the Booth

Music superstar brings the studio to the stage in her latest Las Vegas Strip residency

Could you imagine the opportunity to hear one of the most powerful singers of a generation perform in an intimate studio surrounded by their most talented collaborators and friends? Well, that’s no longer just a figment of your imagination, it’s actually happening in Kelly Clarkson’s latest residency, Studio Sessions, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Made to look like a recording studio, the set is warm and welcoming with plenty of chic mid-century modern furnishings, wood paneling and homey decor. And what really transforms this show into a studio-like experience is how Clarkson’s crew uses the set. There are more than 20 musicians featured, and when an instrumentalist or backup vocalist isn’t included in a song, rather than disappearing backstage, they sit and mingle on the stage as they would during breaks in a recording sesh.

The more casual, laid-back feel of the show is accented by Clarkson’s personal anecdotes and interactions with her fellow entertainers. It’s all very uplifting and personal, letting the audience feel like they’ve gotten a glimpse of the star’s life. For much of the set, she even sings into her favorite mic to record on.

And of course, you’re going to hear all the hits, from “Walk Away” and “Behind These Hazel Eyes” to “Because of You” and “Stronger.” But Clarkson also sprinkles in some hits from her most recent album, chemistry, like “me” and “favorite kind of high,” as well as some covers. After all, how could the icon skip an opportunity for some Kellyoke after repeatedly showing the world how masterfully she can perform songs other than her own on her popular talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show?

Audience members got to enjoy a stunning rendition of “I Will Always Love You” on opening night, while another show witnessed an impressive performance of The Beatles’ “Come Together.” What the songstress will pull out at these upcoming shows remains to be seen, but you’ll certainly want to be there when she does. –Em

Going Forward Into the Past

Entertainer uses the latest technology to bring his history to vibrant life in Strip residency

Donny Osmond has some favorite segments during his headlining show on the Las Vegas Strip. There’s the “Donny Rap,” the “Request Segment,” and the climactic part of the performance when inflated, blinking Donny Balls are pitched into the audience for celebratory volleying. The latest addition incorporates artificial intelligence, images of him at age 14 and his grandson to make something magical happen: Osmond duetting with his youthful “Puppy Love”-era self.

“That’s becoming another anchor point to the show,” says Osmond. “People have heard about it. They’ve read about it. They see it on YouTube and in interviews I’ve done. Then when that curtain opens up and you see this three-dimensional character that’s me 53 years ago … I hear the ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ coming from the audience.”

Two years in the making, Avatar Donny is a high-tech combination of Osmond’s face as it looked more than a half-century ago and his grandson Daxton, dressed as his grandfather did in the early ’70s when he was frequently featured on covers of teen idol magazines such as Tiger Beat. He’s even wearing a cap that was a trademark back in the day. A fan sent it to him just for the video recording in New York, after which Osmond promptly returned it.

“When I’m looking into the eyes of myself, 53 years ago, can you imagine how strange that is? I’m looking in the mirror 53 years ago,” says Osmond.

Due to the technology involved, Osmond needs to be on point during the segment with split-second timing. Other parts of the show are much more casual and spontaneous by design.

“That segment in my show that I call ‘The Request Segment,’ it’s 20 minutes of unknown,” says Osmond. “I don’t know where it’s gonna go, and like I’ve said in times past, it’s probably my favorite part of the show because it’s unknown. For some people, that would scare them half to death. That’s why I love those parts of my show, because the audience is entertained in real time.” –Las Vegas Magazine Staff

Autumn in Vegas

Shopping complex sports seasonal displays for the fall

It might be hard to believe, but autumn is here in Las Vegas! Although the temperatures regularly hit the 90s well into October, once November sets in, you begin to feel like getting in the mood for the chill in the air. And The Shops at Crystals has you covered for that. The upscale shopping complex decorates for every season with a gorgeous main display and seasonal touches throughout the center.

Channeling autumn in the garden, a full-size glass greenhouse is the center of

attention in one display, surrounded by an artful arrangement of mums and colorful pumpkins, while floating overhead is a plethora of umbrellas accented by fall leaves. Along the passageways of the center, you’ll find fall foliage hanging overhead, while those umbrellas drift among the branches.

Another area features more mums, decorative grasses, armatures of birds stopping for a spell on their migratory travels, and pumpkins of several hues piled plentifully and hanging from vines

overhead while waiting on harvest.

As you make your way from one scene to another, you’ll pass a range of upscale boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, Bulgari, Chanel, Alexander McQueen (can you think of any brand more suited to ushering in the colder temperatures?), Tiffany & Co., Prada and the new Zegna, the Italian menswear store that is sure to make anyone look good in the cooler months. –Nina King

Upgrades, People! Upgrades!

Vegas university sees success after its team gets a new home

If you happen upon a UNLV alum in the wild, chances are you can figure out what years they attended simply by asking what branch of UNLV Athletics was in its heyday at the time they attended. Rebels of the ’70s and ’80s will proudly boast about the Jerry Tarkanian-era of Rebel Basketball, while more recent graduates might be excited to tell you about the Rebel Girls & Co., the co-ed dance team that’s won national championships almost every year since 2016.

An exciting upgrade for UNLV Athletics has been the Rebel Football program’s move to Allegiant Stadium, where fans can get a pro ball-like experience, but for a fraction of the cost and with fun, college football vibes. (This writer can affectionately recall attending games at Sam Boyd Stadium, which was home to the Rebels for a few decades.) And while the tailgates and Flavor Flav sightings (he’s a huge fan!) will always be fun memories, the move to Allegiant Stadium is a

massive upgrade that’s put some wind in the team’s sails.

The team finished its 2024 season with its first bowl game victory since 2000, defeating California in the Art of Sport LA Bowl. Now the Rebels have charged into the 2025 season with six wins at the time this story was printed, and hopefully another by the time you read this. –Em Jurbala

Let the Fun Begin

Strip Mexican restaurant has both classics and clever twists

Mexican food is just fun. Every meal feels like a celebration, and if you need further proof, have a meal at ¡VIVA! by Ray Garcia. Everything about this restaurant is adventurous and upbeat. From beginning to end, this experience is guaranteed to produce a smile that will continue long after you’ve had dessert.

You’ll want to start with some queso fundido for the table—a true flavor bomb with three cheeses, chili poblano, tomato fondue and caramelized onions, which you scoop up with tortillas. Wash it down with a ¡Viva-Rita!, made with blanco tequila, fresh lime, agave and salt air foam. For a distinctly different Mexican sip, try the Al Pastor Old-Fashioned, made with Rittenhouse rye, Planteray pineapple rum, piloncillo, guajillo, anise, aromatic bitters and citrus oil.

You can definitely go the classic route here with chicken or lobster enchiladas, Baja shrimp tacos and carne asada, but you might want to take a slight detour and try delights like the Peruvian scallops, accompanied by yuzu, tomatillo, avocado and pichuberry, or a vegan tamale that will win over even the heartiest carnivore with its delicious blend of calabacitas, mole verde, olive relish and vegan feta.

Even the sides here are an adventure. Refried lentils, mixed with cotija cheese and epazote, and papas, crispy fingerling potatoes smothered with chili manzano and cotija cheese, are both vegetarian, while esquites, a blend of corn, bone marrow, serrano chili and cotija cheese, is distinctly not. –Ken Miller

Bazaar Meat gets stunning new location, but you’ll want to go for the cocktails, too

A longtime favorite of both tourists and locals, Bazaar Meat by José Andrés enjoyed tremendous success at SAHARA Las Vegas, but recently the restaurant made the move to The Venetian Resort. Its new home is a beautiful mix of light and dark with the Blanca Room, bright and airy with a large outdoor patio, and the Rojo Room, a deep-red, dimly lit, sexy space, and it’s also where you’ll find the slick-looking bar. It’s behind this bar that mixologists are mixing up some photo-worthy, uniquely tasting cocktails that we say demand a visit to the restaurant, whether you’ve come to dine or not.

“When people come to Bazaar Meat, they talk about this amazing, well-rounded experience, so with the food you want cocktails that match that,” says Eduardo Sanchez, Bazaar Meat general manager. “You don’t want one part to be underwhelming than the rest. We have these amazing dishes, but we didn’t want to limit ourselves to just that. We have this beautiful bar and this beautiful space, and we wanted to elevate our beverage program when we moved to this new location. The goal is to keep innovating; new ideas with new dishes and new cocktails, like with the Martini Service.”

Heads turn whenever a table orders the new Martini Service. “The martini

Cocktail photos by Christopher DeVargas
Martini Service

is served below freezing, served colder than you’ll ever get shaking it,” says Kevin Gorham, Bazaar Meat mixologist. “That coldness, what it does is it softens flavors and rounds out the harsh edges. It makes it a silkier version of a martini.” The Martini Service includes a wheeled-to-your-table cart stocked with the prebatched vodka or gin martini—your choice. Removed from a portable freezer, the cocktail is then garnished to your liking with choices like lemon peel, onion, blue cheese-stuffed olive or regular olive and lemon oil. Lastly, you pick a fragrance, which is a spritz of rosemary, thyme, dill or red peppercorn.

For another showstopping cocktail, heads will turn again when the Nitro Caipirinha cart is wheeled to the table. The prebatched Avuá cachaça caipirinha is added to a steel bowl along with liquid nitrogen. The mixologist then stirs the two together until a sorbetlike consistency is achieved and then piles the mixture into a glass and tops with some fresh lime zest. “This is all about having a cocktail in another form,” Gorham says.

For brown spirit lovers, another cocktail experience comes in the form

of the Aladdin Manhattan. “Think of it as a reverse Manhattan; it’s very vermouth-driven,” Gorham says. “In Spain, they drink vermouth as an aperitif, the starter, to get their stomach ready for the feast. So this cocktail is Spain meets America. It’s the classic Manhattan recipe, we just flip the ingredients to be more Spanish-style, so

it’s vermouth-driven with a little backbone of American bourbon and orange and Angostura bitters, and finished off with cedar smoke and orange twist for garnish.” The cocktail is brought to the table in a box and poured tableside, allowing for the smoke to billow out and swirl around in the air, preparing the taste buds for a unique Manhattan experience. “If you’re a Manhattan drinker, you’re going to love this cocktail,” Gorham says. “This isn’t gonna destroy you like a classic Manhattan— you can have a couple of these, pace them throughout dinner.”

The list of cocktail treats continues with more favorites like the Floral Cloud, a gin cocktail served with a cloud of hibiscus-rose smoke; the Salt Air Margarita, a classic tequila on the rocks topped with a salt air concoction, and the Ben Franklin Milk Punch, a perfect-for-fall blend of brandy, nutmeg, lemon and sugar, clarified with dairy. –Kiko Miyasato

BOA Steakhouse brings modern elegance to Vegas

One of the newest restaurants in Las Vegas, BOA Steakhouse, has a name that may sound familiar, especially if you’ve dined at its sister properties in California and Austin. BOA Steakhouse’s parent company, Innovative Dining Group, has built a reputation for elegance and quality, not only for its BOA Steakhouses, but also for its Japanese cuisine at Katana

21 day dry-aged

Caviar cones in California and Sushi Roku across the Strip at Caesars Palace. At the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian Resort (BOA Steakhouse is located on the second floor in the Palazzo tower), the steakhouse welcomes you with modern, elegant decor and a hospitable atmosphere.

“Las Vegas has always been a city we’ve believed in and felt a strong connection to,” said Lee Maen, founder of

Innovative Dining Group in a news release.

“We’ve successfully been operating in Las Vegas for more than 20 years, and now we’re thrilled to bring BOA to Grand Canal Shoppes and share a steakhouse experience that combines hospitality, upscale dining and nightlife energy in a way that feels uniquely Las Vegas.”

Start that experience with classic cocktails and delicious apps. For a drink

that will keep on giving, choose the Smoke Show, constructed with Knob Creek rye, maple syrup and orange bitters, imbued with applewood smoke. The Blackberry Smash is a tasty twist on that classic theme, with this version using Grey Goose Le Citron vodka, Lejay crème de cassis, blackberry, of course, and mint, with Lejay’s blackcurrant adding to that fruity flavor. Wine aficionados are sure to

find plenty to work with considering how expansive the list is.

You’ll do well to order the caviar cones as an app, a tiny mouthful overflowing with roe, chives and crème fraiche. The hamachi crudo is a striking plate, with slices of the delicate fish arranged with black truffle, the tiniest of celery leaves and preserved Meyer lemon.

Wagyu cigars come with black garlic yuzu aioli and chili crisp, and you are sure to want to try the goat cheese baklava. The wedge salad here is close to the classic, with cherry tomatoes layering against applewood-smoked bacon and blue cheese dressing. The tableside Caesar salad presentation adds a bit of drama before your entrée.

And BOA Steakhouse has those entrées! Here, you’ll find primarily Creekstone Farms products like BOA Steakhouse’s signature 21-day dry-aged tomahawk for two or the 15-day dry-aged ribeye. Joining those is the 40-day dry-aged New York strip.

That’s not all; there are selections of Australian wagyu and A5 Japanese wagyu as well.

Not into steak?

Chicken Parm, lobster fra diavolo, Ora King salmon, Nova Scotia lobster tail and roasted king crab are just a few things to look for on the menu. The weather’s great— go and experience Southern Nevada’s outdoor paradise

Some of the most spectacular outdoor adventures in the American West are hiding in plain sight, just beyond the Strip’s glittering lights. From towering red rocks and snow-capped mountains to ancient petroglyphs and natural hot springs, the Las Vegas area offers an embarrassment of riches for those willing to trade the casino floor for a trail. Whether you’re looking for a morning hike or a multiday expedition into some of Nevada’s most remote wilderness, there’s a surprise at every turn.

Photography

to find world-class outdoor recreation. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area sits just 17 miles west of the Strip, offering over 20 hiking trails that range from leisurely family strolls to challenging scrambles up towering sandstone formations. The 13-mile scenic drive provides awesome photo ops around every curve, while serious climbers tackle routes that have attracted adventurers from around the globe (hello, Free Solo -er Alex Honnold). Don’t miss the Calico Tanks trail—the panoramic views of the Vegas Valley from the top are simply incredible.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park
Lee Canyon

For a dose of history, Spring Mountain Ranch State Park , adjacent to Red Rock, offers a glimpse into Old West ranching life at the historic ranch where Howard Hughes once lived. You can explore preserved buildings, tackle easy hiking trails and occasionally catch living-history demonstrations in this picturesque mountain setting.

When summer temperatures soar past 110 degrees in the valley, locals know exactly where to go: Mount Charleston. This high-elevation oasis boasts more than 60 miles of hiking trails winding through fragrant pine and aspen forests. Cathedral Rock is a must-do hike for all levels, but for those feeling ambitious, the 18-mile Charleston Peak—at 11,916 feet and the highest point in Southern Nevada—is a bucket-list feat. When the snow comes, these mountains are a sledding playground for kiddos and adults alike.

Speaking of snow: Lee Canyon, adjacent to Mount Charleston, serves as Nevada’s premier ski destination. During winter months, you can hit the slopes for skiing and snowboarding, then return during warmer seasons for world-class mountain biking trails and chairlift rides that offer awesome views.

Back in the valley, the Wetlands Nature Preserve is an unexpected urban oasis where boardwalks and trails wind through a thriving desert wetland ecosystem. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise: Bring binoculars to spot herons, ducks and migratory birds—more than 200 species have been recorded. The miles of paved paths make it perfect for cycling, too.

Wetlands Nature Preserve
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area

For prehistory buffs, check out Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, one of the Southwest’s most significant petroglyph sites. More than 300 panels contain thousands of ancient rock art images, and the easy 1.1-mile interpretive trail leads to spectacular red sandstone formations—all just a short drive from Las Vegas.

Water lovers should head to Willow Beach, where you can launch kayaks for a scenic paddle toward Hoover Dam or the stunning turquoise waters of Emerald Cove. The Colorado River here offers excellent rainbow trout fishing, while the beach area provides picnic spots and easy access for swimming.

Of course, no discussion of Las Vegas water recreation would be complete without mentioning Lake Mead America’s largest reservoir offers endless possibilities: Rent houseboats for multiday adventures from Callville Bay Marina; explore the lake by powerboat or jet ski from Las Vegas Boat Harbor at Hemenway Harbor; paddleboard in protected coves; swim at Boulder Beach; or explore hidden hot springs tucked into canyon walls. For a land-based adventure, hike or bike the Historic Railroad Trail. Five massive tunnels carved through the mountains in the 1930s during Hoover Dam’s construction now form a spectacular 3.7-mile trail with panoramic views of the lake below.

the adventures get even more spectacular. Valley of Fire State Park , Nevada’s oldest, showcases otherworldly landscapes of brilliant red sandstone formations and ancient petroglyphs. Key trails include Fire Wave for those Instagram-worthy shots, Mouse’s Tank for impressive rock art and White Domes for slot canyon exploration that feels like stepping onto another planet.

For a genuine Wild West experience, head to Nelson, a ghost town where original buildings, vintage cars and mining equipment lie scattered throughout the landscape. The nearby Techatticup Mine offers fascinating underground tours into the area’s mining past.

the rewards are extraordinary. China Date Ranch serves as your gateway to Death Valley, where you can sample fresh dates, learn about desert agriculture and stock up on supplies before heading into one of America’s most extreme national parks. (The delicious date shakes alone are worth the trip.)

Death Valley National Park itself offers experiences found nowhere else on Earth. Drive through Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America at

282 feet below sea level. Explore the colorful mineral deposits of Artist’s Palette, hike through dramatic Golden Canyon and slide down massive sand dunes. Camping under Death Valley’s star-filled skies ranks among the best outdoor experiences anywhere.

For art lovers, stop in Beatty to visit the outdoor Goldwell Open Air Museum, featuring large-scale installations including the famous “Last Supper” sculpture. The small town also serves as another gateway to Death Valley.

Road trip enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the ET Highway, Nevada’s most famous stretch of asphalt. This 98-mile section of Highway 375 cuts through desolate, weirdly beautiful desert landscape. Stop at the quirky Little A’Le’Inn in Rachel for a burger, keep your eyes peeled for UFOs and experience the vast, empty beauty of the Nevada desert. The highway runs along the infamous Area 51, the top-secret military installation that’s fueled decades of speculation and conspiracy theories. the lights of Las Vegas take on a different glow. Sure, the city knows how to put on a show, but the real spectacle lies just beyond the neon—in slot canyons and dark skies, ancient rock art and endless desert horizons.

Finally, there’s Great Basin National Park , arguably Nevada’s crown jewel. Yes, it’s a five-hour drive from Vegas, but experiencing some of the darkest skies in the continental U.S. makes every mile worthwhile. During the day, explore the otherworldly Lehman Caves, hike to pristine alpine lakes or summit Wheeler Peak, Nevada’s second-tallest mountain. Fair warning: It’s a butt-kicker. Pack a tent—Wheeler Campground might just be the most beautiful campground in the entire state.

No matter the cut, Las Vegas has the steak you want —and the great steakhouse experience

There are few dining experiences that linger in your mind longer than a great steak dinner. Close your eyes and picture the one you’ve never forgotten: maybe it was the restaurant itself, where the vibe just made you hungry; maybe it was the service, making you feel relaxed and happy; maybe it was the appearance when your cut hit the table, cooked

to absolute perfection; maybe it was the way the knife glided through the meat effortlessly; or maybe it was that perfect combo of steak and sauce, whether it be peppercorn, bearnaise, bordelaise, chimichurri or horseradish—or heck, even A.1.!

Las Vegas has perfectly mastered this experience, and we present some of the absolute best on the

following pages. As with anything of absolute quality, palates differ. Some of you will never deviate from filet mignon, while others can’t get enough of the deep flavor of a ribeye. Whatever your preference, we hope you find it here. So read on, then make your reservations—and get ready for a new steak dinner memory you will never forget.

Bourbon Steak at Four Seasons. 702.632.5000 It’s one of the most classic steaks in the world, and this cut from Creekstone Farms is simply magnificent at Michael Mina’s newest Vegas restaurant. Full of flavor and butter-like in its tenderness, it demands your full attention—and return visits.

Carversteak at Resorts World Las Vegas. 702.550.2333

As far as brands go, Australia’s Westholme wagyu is pretty hard to beat for overall quality. And Carversteak’s 50-ounce F-1 tomahawk from that brand is an absolute giant on the Strip—in more ways than one. Marbling, tenderness, overall flavor, this cut has it all.

This is the best of both worlds, a New York strip and a filet mignon, separated by a bone. Which one do you start with? That’s the eternal question, but with this longtime favorite’s version, you’ll be glad to go back again and again to get it right.

Barry’s Downtown Prime at Circa Resort & Casino. 702.726.5504

This cut—a 12-ounce, wetaged rib cap from Creekstone Farms—is so good, chef Barry Dakake put his trademark on it. The outer rim of the prime rib roast, it’s amazingly tender, and Dakake’s version boosts the flavor profile to the maximum.

Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian Resort. 702.414.3737

For the perfect meal for two, this 20-ounce Creekstone Farms Angus steak (a center-cut beef tenderloin roast) is hard to beat. Emeril Lagasse’s grilled and oh-so-tender version is cooked in a red wine reduction, carved tableside for two and drizzled with bearnaise sauce.

Peter Luger Steak House at Caesars Palace. caesars.com

Simplicity is usually the best approach when it comes to steak, and this porterhouse, cut into slices and served on a very-hot plate, is as basic as it gets. This is a very old-school steakhouse, which means you only get the signature Luger’s Own Sauce. The good news? It’s all you need.
