A Vibrant Evening
The fusion cuisine at this restaurant is sure to excite your taste buds Get globally inspired Asian cuisine at FUHU, a dynamic spot with an intimate lounge and bar and a seating area close to the open kitchen. You’ll know you are close when you spot the abundant cherry blossoms overhanging the entrance. The menu at FUHU is an inspired mix of fusion dishes, with such appetizers as the edamame FUHUummus. Like chickpea hummus, you’ll find the flavor of sesame here, but this is served with crispy papadums. Popcorn shrimp is accented with furikake and a spicy aioli, while the miso cod “taco” is served on bibb lettuce with orange and kataifi (shredded phyllo dough). That global crossover vibe continues with contemporary Japanese sashimi and nigiri plates—the tai snapper Nikkei features an aji amarillo sauce and choclo (a Peruvian corn). Main dishes include an 8-ounce Black Hawk wagyu filet with truffle teriyaki sauce; a 16-ounce New York strip with a wasabi demi-glace; octopus anticucho with a shiso chimichurri sauce; and merlion salmon with a prawns and a Singapore laksa sauce. The Korean fried chicken is appealing as well. There are several roll choices like the goma crab, the Crouching Spider with soft-shell crab and bay scallops, and classic spicy tuna. Sides here continue that global theme, with rainbow cauliflower and Romesco sauce accented by garlic crunch and a yuzu zest. From drinks to meals, this steakhouse specializes in making special memories for groups of any size At Barry’s Downtown Prime, there’s no end to the selling points. Even the journey to the restaurant is special: You make your way down an escalator, and it’s the only destination at the bottom. The feeling of exclusivity only increases from that point on, as you’re treated like true royalty the second you enter. Your smile will widen even more as the Cocktail Cart makes its way to your table. Manhattan and Old-Fashioned fans will find plenty to geek out over here, with your choice of regular or top shelf ryes, bourbons and tequilas (yes, you heard that right!). You will want to get out your phone and set it to “video” once your mixologist begins crafting everything together; the presentation is as intoxicating as the drinks themselves. This being a steakhouse, you might be tempted (and rightly so) for wanting to opt for appetizers like crispy calamari, jumbo shrimp cocktail and a chilled shellfish platter. But might we suggest trying something a tad different like the crispy vegetable spring rolls? Once you taste the filling of Thai papaya salad, maitake mushrooms, vermicelli noodles, bell peppers, zucchini squash, watercress

and roasted peanuts, all served with a Thai chili dipping sauce, it might become your new go-to before the main course. And oh, the mains! Good luck choosing between Dover sole, Colorado lamb chops, or one of the many cuts, from a 14-ounce dry-aged boneless ribeye to a 12-ounce wetaged rib cap (also known as “Barry’s Steak,” pictured). And save room for dessert—we’re partial to Christine’s carrot cake (the difference here is roasted pineapple chutney) and the campfire s’mores, as delicious as you remember from childhood. Another huge selling point of this space is its … space. There are several individual rooms that can accommodate larger groups, all with distinct names: The Chef’s Table (capacity of 12); The Sultan’s Table (capacity 14); The Sabre Room (capacity 22); The Fremont Room (capacity 24); The Garden Room (capacity 24); The Mint Room (capacity 44); and The Main St. Room (capacity 65). A Life in Song
Singer brings a hefty catalog of hits to Strip residency One Direction will no doubt be most famous as the group that launched the career of Harry Styles. But it’s far from the band’s only success story. Another of One Direction’s huge stars, Zain Javadd Malik (known to his legion of fans as “Zayn”), brings a seven-date residency to Dolby Live starting this week, and fans can expect plenty of the passion and energy Zayn is world-famous for. Ever since Zayn went solo in 2015, he has found immense success, becoming the first British male artist to debut at number one in both the U.K. and U.S. with his debut single, “Pillowtalk,” and album, Mind of Mine, in 2016. He’s also the only artist to have won the Billboard Music Award for new artist of the year twice (once with One Direction and once as a solo artist). Over the subsequent years, Zayn has released three other studio albums and collaborated with numerous artists, including Sia, Timbaland, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Chris Brown and Usher. He’ll bring quite an impressive and varied catalog to his Strip shows, from “What I Am,” “Alienated” and “Stardust” to “Better,” “Let Me” and “Entertainer.” Unlike his original group, Zayn has never gone just one direction—his various musical styles (from old-school hip-hop and reggae to R&B and electropop) have changed over the years; but one thing that hasn’t changed is his popularity with fans. –Ken Miller Park MGM, 9 p.m. Jan. 20-21, 24-25, 28 and 30-31, starting at $107 plus tax and fee. ticketmaster.com

Soon, you’ll head to a second chamber where a unique set of scenes play out. With Legendary Iceland, oceans, ice, lava and an elder troll (trolls are part of Icelandic folklore) tell the story of how Iceland emerged. It’s a captivating story that really gets you ready for the next step of the attraction.

After you head into the movie theater/ride portion, you’ll sit, belt in and get basic instructions. The screen stretches before you in a massive arc, and you’ll rise gently into the air before the lights dim. Then be amazed as ice floes and lava fields fill the screen and hikers, bikers, horses, fishermen and farmers trek through your field of vision. Swoop over immense fields of purple lupine and wend your way through canyons and ravines and past waterfalls. Glide over the ocean, examining rock formations and craggy islands. (Perhaps a troll caught by the dawning day?) The impressive sight of Hallgrímskirkja, the Lutheran church that is the second tallest-building in the capital of Reykjavik, is joined by fireworks. All along the way, you’ll feel the mists kissing your skin. FlyOver Las Vegas is located on the Las Vegas Strip in the Showcase Mall. Limitless Possibilities for Fun Toy icon gets her own restaurant in Vegas—complete with roller rink!
Barbie can do anything, right?! Of course she can! She can even earn more than a billion dollars at the box office! And now the iconic toy that’s inspired generations has staked her claim in Las Vegas with the opening of Malibu Barbie Café. “Barbie would love Vegas; it’s one of the most eclectic cities anywhere and Barbie is all about inclusiveness,” said Derek Barry, president of experiences at Bucket Listers, creators of the new café. “Barbie would love what we’ve done here—it’s that beachy, vibey café. … Mattel has been super excited and supportive with this project. AREA15 folks have been very receptive, too. It’s the perfect location. We’re excited.” This is the ninth iteration of the café, and it’s the biggest and raddest one of them all—a larger roller rink, bigger food and beverage menu and more immersive fun. Start your pink, dreamy, beachy adventure inside the café and order bites like pink pancakes, sandwiches and shareables, as well as sweets like design-yourown sundaes and cupcakes and dessert drinks like ice cream floats served in a pink Barbie car. Wash it all down with one of the specialty cocktails like the Think Pink margarita with JAJA blanco tequila, Cointreau, prickly pear purée, lime juice and coconut cream, or the Malibu Vibes with Buffalo Trace bourbon, Aperol aperitivo, sweet vermouth and rose syrup. What Will You Create? Limited-time experience combines light and sound BLVD Las Vegas, one of the Las Vegas Strip’s newest and coolest retail destinations, has a limited-time offering you absolutely have to take advantage of: Optik Interactive Light & Sound Experience. First off, it’s free. Second, it ends Jan. 25. Located at The Overlook on the third floor of BLVD Las Vegas, the experience was created by Brooklyn-based the Urban Conga in collaboration with Serge Maheu (a computer engineer who now specializes in multimedia productions) and

powered by Canada-based company Creos. It’s a series of 10 6-foot gyroscope structures that visitors can rotate to create changing light patterns (the gyroscopes contain a dichroic film that reflects daylight and refracts internal LED lighting after dark). In addition, moving the structures also produces different musical tones based on movement speed and direction. In other words, each visitor’s experience will be unique! While you’re at BLVD Las Vegas, indulge in some retail therapy as well.

Start the day off the right way when you’re in Vegas—that means brunch! Hit up one of the newest hot spots, The Kitchen Table at Rio Las Vegas. Hangover burgers, carnivore skillets and specialty pancakes like red velvet, ube and banana matcha are just some of the yummy treats, but make sure to dip into this new restaurant to take advantage of its signature booze. Order up Bloody Marys, mimosa flights, spritzes and booze-filled coffees. When afternoon and evening hits, take the party to The Tiki Bar at Excalibur. The new bar is saturated in exotic island decor, from wood tables and chairs to tiki votives, tropical foliage and thatched portals surrounded by glowing lanterns that help set the scene for tons of tiki-inspired sips. Rums mix with pineapple whip, coconut syrup, banana liqueur, sweet tea, strawberry and lime juices; there is even a tiki flight where you can sample three of the specialty cocktails, including the Tropical Tai. At night, the stage welcomes bands and DJs playing island sounds. We sat down with Yelena Anter, beverage development manager at Westgate Las Vegas, inside Velvet Bar at the resort and asked her how she ended up creating cocktail programs for the entire property. “I am a huge Elvis fan,” she said. “The whole reason I am in Vegas, the United States, even Westgate, is because of Elvis.” Growing up in Russia in the ’80s, it was forbidden to have anything American, but her dad managed to get a bootleg record of Elvis’ music. “I listened

to that record till you couldn’t play it anymore,” Anter said. “That’s how I first learned English. And in the ’90s as American movies became available, I watched Viva Las Vegas and I had a dream that I wanted to come to Las Vegas, no matter what.” So, she did, at just 19 years old. When she turned 21, she landed her first bartending job and continued to nurture her newfound love for creating cocktails. Anter set her sights on working at Westgate Las Vegas (the unofficial home
of Elvis) and has been with the property since 2023. “My job is to create a truly unique cocktail culture that’s unique to Westgate,” she said. “I make all the garnishes here in the kitchen. I make unique rims, syrups, cordials, too. It’s very rewarding and I love to challenge myself. “If I saw a glimpse of where I am at now 25 years ago, I would probably not believe my eyes. Blake Shelton isn’t tiptoeing back into Las Vegas. He’s barreling in with a beer in one hand and a setlist in the other. Fresh off his successful run last February, the country superstar returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace for eight shows with a promise that should thrill fans. “We had so much fun earlier this year, I figured—why not do it again?” Shelton has said. “This time we’re gonna do it more country, with more cocktails, and probably make a few more questionable decisions. Let’s go, Vegas.” This is the kind of confidence that’s made Shelton one of country music’s most bankable stars. With 30 No. 1 hits and nearly 11 billion global streams, he’s earned the right to show up in Vegas and do things his way. And fans are more than ready to make those questionable decisions right alongside him. The residency comes at a particularly hot moment for Shelton. His latest album, For Recreational Use Only, dropped in May. It’s his first full-length release in nearly four years. The 12-track collection
includes chart-topper “Texas” and current radio hit “Stay Country or Die Tryin’,” which both capture Shelton’s ability to balance traditional country sensibilities with arena-ready hooks. The album also features appearances by his wife, Gwen Stefani, along with veterans John Anderson and Craig Morgan. “It’s been a long time since we had a new album out, and I want to thank the songwriters and musicians who helped bring this record to life,” Shelton said when announcing the album. “Scott (Hendricks) and I have been working on this music for years, and I’m beyond excited to finally share it with the fans.” The last couple of years for Shelton has been spent in constant motion, wrapping his Friends & Heroes Tour with Craig Morgan, Deana Carter, Trace Adkins and Emily Ann Roberts, hitting summer festivals, and continuing to expand his Ole Red partnership with Ryman Hospitality. The Vegas outpost, located at the corner of Flamingo and Las Vegas Boulevard South, marks the fifth Ole Red location, joining Tishomingo, Okla., Nashville and Gatlinburg in Tennessee and Orlando, Fla., complete with a
rooftop stage that’s become its own destination on the Strip. He’s also branching into television production, co-producing CBS’ The Road, a gritty series following touring artists, with Taylor Sheridan and starring Keith Urban. For someone who “retired” from The Voice after 23 seasons, Shelton’s definition of retirement looks suspiciously like a full-time job. For his Vegas shows, Shelton delivers an undeniable honkytonk vibe. His performances feel more like Saturday night at your favorite dive bar—if that dive bar happened to seat 4,300 people and feature world-class production. Fans can expect a powerhouse set drawing from three decades of hits, mixed with fresh material from the new album. Songs like “Honey Bee,” “God’s Country” and “Austin” share space with newer tracks, delivered in his signature raucous energy that transforms even The Colosseum’s Roman grandeur into something that feels authentically country. This month, Vegas gets exactly what Shelton promised: more country, more cocktails, more questionable decisions. We can totally get behind that.

Styx brings its classic album—and much more—to the Las Vegas Strip Styx has mastered the art of longevity. These multiplatinum album-oriented rock architects have been defying the odds since the ’70s, with no signs of slowing down. The legendary rockers are returning to The Venetian Theatre for five nights with something truly special: a complete performance of 1978’s Pieces of Eight, plus all the hits that made them arena gods in the first place. Styx currently operates as a seven-member powerhouse: founding guitarist/vocalist James “JY” Young (affectionately dubbed “The Godfather of Styx”), guitarist/vocalist Tommy Shaw, original bassist Chuck Panozzo, longtime drummer Todd Sucherman, keyboardist/vocalist Lawrence Gowan, guitarist/vocalist Will Evankovich and bassist Terry Gowan. “We have home run hitters at every position,” Young told NEWHD Media last year. “Everybody seems to be in balance and happy. Everybody’s smiling at each other after the shows are over. And that’s a very good sign.” The band just released Circling From Above, its 18th studio album, a 13-track exploration of technology and nature that critics are calling its third consecutive masterpiece following 2021’s Crash of the Crown and 2017’s The Mission. While most heritage acts coast on their catalog, Styx continues to create. “We’re always writing,” Shaw told Billboard earlier this year. “Will and I live close to each other in Nashville, so we get together a lot and co-write things. But the other guys are great cowriters, too; we’ll get together at my house or at Will’s studio and we’ll start cobbling these pieces together.”
