Comedy Gold Mine
I’m a huge fan of stand-up comedy. Whenever I’m driving, I’m usually streaming the Pandora comedy radio stations. What’s great about that is you never know what comedian will pop up next. And I will never forget the moment I first heard the comedy of Chris Distefano from Size 38 Waist. As he talked about his family, his upbringing and incredibly inappropriate comments made by his father, I could not stop laughing. I immediately sought out everything I could on this man, and it was a deep dive! His body of work in a relatively short time is as impressive as it is hilarious.
If you’re like me, you’ve visited Vegas at the perfect time. Distefano is bringing his singular sense of humor to MGM Grand, and it promises to be one of the premier comedy events of 2026 (“Relatable Chaos,” p. 32). You really don’t want to miss this show.
And that’s just the beginning of the entertainment in store for you this week. Def Leppard, no strangers to the Las Vegas Strip, will perform throughout the month of February at Caesars Palace (“Muscle Memory,” p. 34). Expect all the hits and some newer material, as this band has continued to be extremely productive.

Continuing a Rich Legacy
Rock band returns to Las Vegas Strip property to continue its annual multinight engagement tradition
Collective Soul began what many of its fans hope is a tradition last year: It launched its first-ever multinight engagement in Las Vegas. The band had played multinight engagements in other cities, but its debut at The Venetian Theatre—a venue that’s been very good to other legacy acts like Styx, Chicago and Earth, Wind & Fire—was something truly special. And the success of the run has the entire band looking forward to its return.
Looking forward is something Collective Soul has always done, save for anniversary tours like 2024’s celebration of three decades since the band struck pay dirt with sleeper single “Shine.” That tour was also in support of Here to Eternity, a 20-track double album recorded in Elvis Presley’s Palm Springs residence.
If there was a rock act that qualifies as a working-man’s band, Collective Soul is it. Rhythm guitarist Dean Roland and older brother Ed Roland got the band back in action as soon as restrictions lifted and logged many miles on tours, both solo and with Hootie & the Blowfish.
“We always look at this as an opportunity we got 30 years ago. We
love what we do,” Roland told Las Vegas Magazine prior to the start of its Venetian run. “We just try to stay active and appreciate the fact that we get to play music for a living.”
Music has been a blessing for the Roland brothers since they grew up in a household headed by a Baptist minister in an Atlanta suburb. Ed, older by eight years, attended Berklee College of Music and soaked up the sounds of then-popular bands such as The Cars before returning home and working at a recording studio.
It was there Ed slowly made a demo with scraps of audio tape cut from other bands’ sessions, a recording that would include “Shine.” The song made waves independently and was subsequently championed by Orlando rock station WJRR.
“We had our moments of being morons when we were younger, just doing rock ‘n’ roll stuff, but we always tried to respect the fact … to take it serious. We wanted a career,” Roland said. Mission accomplished. –Ken Miller

Who Wants Pizza!?
Strip restaurant is a slice of authentic New York goodness
It’s inevitable that on any vacation at least one meal will be a pizza pick from all involved. May we suggest one place to hit up if you’ve got that pie craving? Richie Palmer’s Mulberry Street Pizzeria of Beverly Hills. You want a real East Coast pizza with simple yet incredibly delicious ingredients and an experience that’ll be a highlight of your Vegas vacation—this is the spot.
“We’re real New Yorkers coming in and bringing our pizza,” said Darren Tripicchio, general manager. “… Our focus on that balance with the sauce, the cheese, the dough—really old-school New York pizza, that oldschool New York Bronx pizza, that’s what it’s based on. (It’s) a very thin crust and crispy. And it’s all about the balance and the ratio between the dough, the sauce and the cheese. It’s an art. The balance of the three is what makes a pizza excellent.”
Tripicchio’s family has been pumping out pies all over Southern California for more than three decades, bringing their authentic flavors—many of the recipes come from his grandmother’s kitchen— with the sauce, the ziti and the salad dressings.
The cheese and pepperoni pies will more than satisfy, but we also
suggest trying Mulberry’s specialty pies, which have been so popular that they’ve become part of the permanent menu. The bulgogi pizza is a Korean barbecue-style pizza with bulgogi beef in a made-in-house marinade, onions, scallions and homemade spicy mayo, while the carne asada pizza includes carne asada steak, pico de gallo, cilantro, salsa verde sauce and a made-in-house cilantro aioli drizzle.
“Please come visit us and you’ll see—a lot of people tell us we’re the best,” Tripicchio said. “We never abandon quality; it’s always going to be top-notch.”
Besides the authentic and creative eats, don’t skip out on the drinks. Longtime friend of the family Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson partnered with Mulberry Street Pizzeria to offer the actor’s tequila brand Teremana. You can get the spirit in frozen margarita form, best-sellers for the restaurant. Try The Rockarita that blends Teremana, pineapple and coconut, and the Teremana Sunrise, mixed with pineapple, coconut, orange, grenadine and Teremana. –Kiko Miyasato
Feel Like an (Adult) Kid
Drink and play video games at this popular bar
Years ago, Jeffrey Benoit and friends were playing a heated game of Halo and drinking some beers in his living room. “And then the wives wanted us to find somewhere else to play,” he says, laughing. So, he and said friends opened their first bar arcade in Orlando in 2012, and in 2019 brought the concept to Las Vegas. “We also wanted to do a retro arcade-style video game bar in Las Vegas; I love Las Vegas,” Benoit says. Thus, Player 1 Video Game Bar was born.
“We span the whole history of gaming from 1970s to 2025,” Benoit says. Once
you pay the cover and step inside the bar, you’ll enter a gamer’s paradise with tons of arcade games and consoles available to play as much as you want, including Play Station 5, Xbox and Xbox 360, Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast, Marvel Super Heroes, Mortal Kombat, Tekken 2, Street Fighter, Ninja Turtles, Guitar Hero, Commando, Jungle King, Popeye, Donkey Kong, Tron, NBA Jam, Robocop, Karate Champ, Q*bert, Centipede and Pengo, as well as a whole section of pinball machines; there are even lounge-like areas with gaming chairs to play the consoles.
And what goes better with gaming than drinking? Enjoy video game-inspired cocktails like Princess Peaches, The Vice City and the Potion of Mana, as well as 50 beer taps and sake options.
“Player 1 is a nice break from gambling,” Benoit says. “It’s a nice stop to see the history of gaming. We’re constantly updating and changing out the games we offer. We’re trying to keep the spirit of gaming alive.” –Kiko Miyasato

Cinematic History
Downtown attraction featuring the city’s iconic signage now offers a movie-themed tour
This is an excursion worth taking while in town! Jaunt downtown to The Neon Museum for its new Viva Las Vegas! movie tour, led by one of the staff’s knowledgeable guides. (Many of them are Las Vegas born and raised, and have a wealth of knowledge and anecdotes to share.)
The tour is about 45 minutes and starts in the museum’s lobby, which is the actual lobby of the La Concha Motel, which opened in 1961 just three miles down the road. The tour is a great mix of cinema history and city history, all told based on the signs that you’ll stroll past in the museum’s Neon Boneyard. (There are a total of 30 illuminated pieces in the boneyard.)
Cool history tidbits include that the Moulin Rouge, the country’s first racially integrated casino, opened in 1955 (sign pictured). The famed Rat Pack would often perform here late into the night. The Aladdin lamp stood atop the Aladdin Hotel, where Elvis and Priscilla got married in 1967. The Red Barn sign helped illuminate one of the city’s first gay bars in the late-’60s, and it’s also where one of the first drag shows, RB Follies, was staged.
The Desert Inn sign sat on the property that Howard Hughes ended up purchasing after checking in to the top two floors beginning in 1966. It became the recluse’s permanent home until 1970, when he left the room on a stretcher to be flown to the Bahamas, never to return.
Cinema history includes the Plaza sign—the property appeared in Diamonds Are Forever, Back to the Future Part II, Cool World and Casino. The Riviera sign’s history includes the filming of movies like the original Ocean’s Eleven, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Jason Bourne. And you can view the giant 82-foot Hard Rock Café guitar, appearing in a scene from Honey, I Blew Up the Kid
So many more stories and fun facts fill the rest of the tour— time well spent for those that want to learn a little more about Las Vegas and its starring role in pop culture. –Kiko Miyasato

Kickin’ It Old School
Speakeasy bar combines the art of DJing and craft cocktailing
Who remembers vinyl? If your teenage years happened in the ’90s like me, you remember the days of crates, turntables and vinyl, and the DJs who carried all of it into the party. There was something special about listening to the DJ soundtrack the evening, switching out records, scratching them, slowing down and speeding up the sounds and mixing melodies. It was a special time for music, especially hip-hop and emerging electronic dance music.
Now there’s a place (and a party) that brings back all those vibes: Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den at Resorts World Las Vegas and its weekly High Fidelity Fridays.
“It’s an ode to Japanese listening bars; we wanted to create this because of the property’s Asian heritage,” says Josef Wagner, senior vice president of operations at Resorts World Las Vegas. “It’s like a lost art; hardly any DJs play with vinyl anymore and we wanted to bring that back in a beautiful, intimate setting. DJs playing a mix of old-school hip-hop, house music, funk, soul from the ’80s and ’90s.”
Along with the art of playing vinyl, Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den combines the art of mixology. It’s popular in many Japanese listening bars that the DJ booth is situated right behind the
bar, creating a perfect union of music and booze, and that vibe is re-created here. Guests can imbibe thoughtfully crafted cocktails made special for High Fidelity Fridays.
That Sidle Touch is a nod to the moves that DJs make when applying pressure to the record on the turntables. This slightly sweet bubbly cocktail is a mix of Patron reposado, prickly
pear syrup, lemon juice and rosé sparkling wine, served in a champagne flute with an orchid garnish. The Hennessy G Code pays homage to old-school hip-hop and its influence on the success of the Hennessy brand. Mixed with Hennessy VS, St-Germain elderflower liqueur, lychee liqueur and lemon juice, it’s served with an ice sphere and lime chip, resulting in a smooth, slightly

A popular pick on the menu is Bartender’s Choice, where guest and bartender get to create a unique cocktail together based on the guest’s taste, likes, dislikes and even hobbies and interests. This week’s High Fidelity Fridays on Feb. 6 welcomes Shalvoy.
There is no cover charge and no reservation required to get into Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den, but for High Fidelity Fridays it is suggested to get there at 9 p.m. to guarantee entrance.

The cocktail, reminiscent of a Negroni, became so popular that it made its way on to the permanent menu. So, while at High Fidelity Fridays, don’t miss your chance to order up a Bartender’s Choice and let the creativity of the evening
inspire you to create your own cocktail (and you get to name it, too!).
Other popular cocktails include Can I Smash, a bourbon-based drink with blueberry notes; Tai-Mai Tongue, a rum-based drink with hints of apricot and lime; and the Cara-Me-Home, a dessert-like treat with peanut butter whiskey and espresso.
“If you’re into spirits and a spirit collector, we have a nice collection of brown spirits like bourbons and single malts, too,” Wagner says. “And a special collection of Japanese whiskeys.” Coveted brands include FUYU, Hakushu and Hibiki, to name a few.
“We wanted to combine the DJ craft with the art of crafting cocktails, all in an intimate setting—about 60 people max—and make it about the music and the cocktails, in an unpretentious location with something for everyone,” Wagner says. “It’s a special night that’s playful.” Now those are some party vibes we can dig. –Kiko Miyasato

Tattoo artist is proud of his career accomplishments
For 28 years, Alejandro Gonzalez’s love for his hometown of Havana, Cuba, was strong, but he knew he had to leave in order to pursue his ambition of being a tattoo artist. (Having a tattoo shop in Cuba was illegal at the time.) “I never thought about leaving Cuba, but I needed to for my career,” he says.
But where would he go to up his game? “I literally searched on the internet, ‘Top friendly tattoo cities in the U.S.’ and Las Vegas was No. 2 after Miami.” Gonzalez left for the United States and
landed in Las Vegas, where he slept on the streets until he found a tattoo shop that would hire him. After working at various spots around the city, he finally made the move to Miami, where he opened and ran his own tattoo shop for eight years. Three years ago, he made the move back to Vegas, where he has been working at high-end shop Club Tattoo at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood.

there’s one thing Vegas does right (there are many, actually), it’s the steakhouse. Nearly every resort has a high-end steakhouse, and at Westgate Las Vegas, you’ll find Edge Steakhouse. With this combination of new school and modern sensibilities, you’ll find excellent incarnations of classic dishes that you know and love, plus newer twists that add even more to the experience.
Start with a drink like the Vegas Dream, a delicious sip with vodka, passion fruit, prosecco and a huckleberry reduction in a pomegranate sugar-rimmed martini glass. It’s sweet and flavorful, and worth sipping to the last drop. If you get it at the bar while waiting for your table, the kind staff will carry it to your table.

years. Get classic appetizers like the seafood platter, piled high with shrimp, oysters, octopus and king crab accompanied by cocktail sauce and lemon beurre monté sauce, or a shrimp cocktail with lemon and cocktail sauce. The hot, lightly fried shrimp starter, served with a sweet chili reduction, is so enticing that you may be tempted to skip everything else and order more.
Grilled octopus is spectacularly beautiful, with piquillo purée, pickled jingle bell peppers and a citrus gel on a smoked saffron potato cloud. The jumbo lump crab cake comes with lemon crème fraîche, cucumber and an avocado aioli. Foie gras gets a completely different treatment here; it’s made into mousse and served in a jar, with guava, kumquat confit, brûlée fig and fig crostini. It’s so sweet it could almost pass for dessert.
Caesar salad is a classic, and the wedge is accompanied by Nueske’s bacon, blue cheese and ranch dressing. The baby beet salad lightly dresses the vegetable in Meyer lemon vinaigrette, and artfully arranges mascarpone, pistachios, citrus and beet coral.
Edge Steakhouse features plenty of main dishes other than steaks, like roasted Mary’s organic chicken, which is citrus-brined and served with
a brown butter sage jus, and ora king salmon with a saffron potato risotto.
For your steak, try the 10-ounce filet mignon with roasted garlic, and 20-ounce cuts like the bone-in ribeye or dryaged N.Y. strip, a 10-ounce wagyu strip, among others, prepared Rossini-style with foie gras and Madeira wine sauce; au poivre; and blue cheese-crusted. Accompaniments include bone marrow, charred jalapeño, king crab Oscar; butter-poached lobster tail and more.
You can’t forget the sides—some favorites are the decadent mac and cheese,
with black truffle and white cheddar; and potato gratin, a deeply cheesy dish that begs to be the center of attention. The roasted Brussels sprouts are quite delicious, with the balsamic reduction adding a little tang, and apple mostarda, sweetness.
For dessert, Tahitian vanilla crème brulée is a pretty, tasty picture, and the milk chocolate sphere is sure to wow. Your server pours warm caramel sauce over the top of the smooth globe, and it slowly opens, revealing a warm s’mores brownie, vanilla Chantilly, pecan praline and salted caramel ice cream.

Chris Distefano finds the funny in the unfortunate
There’s a particular kind of comedian who doesn’t just tell jokes, they barrel through them. Chris Distefano is that comedian, and he’s rolling into the David Copperfield Theater stage at MGM Grand for one night only as part of the Aces of Comedy series.
It’s your chance to witness a funnyman who’s turned his particular brand of self-deprecating chaos into soldout appearances. In 2023, Distefano made history as the first stand-up comedian to sell out both Radio City Music Hall and The Theater at Madison Square Garden on consecutive nights, a feat that speaks to this guy’s sheer relatability. He’s the friend who tells the story that makes everyone at the table double over, the one who finds comedy in life’s most unfortunate moments.
In fact, his latest hourlong special on Hulu is literally called It’s Just Unfortunate, executive produced by Jimmy Kimmel. (The “unfortunate” part references a hilarious childhood memory when his father convinced nearly everyone at Yankee Stadium that 12-year-old Chris had special needs just to upgrade their seats from the cheap section to home plate.)
Distefano’s comedy draws from the well of everyday disaster:
fatherhood, marriage, his ItalianAmerican upbringing. Sample his approach: “My girl, she wants a guy who knows how to build stuff. I don’t know how to build anything. I can build walls—emotionally.”
In a 2019 interview with The Hoya, he explained his comedy’s origins this way: “I think my comedy comes from, it would be like my defense mechanism when I was like sad or like having like an emotional outburst, instead of like yelling or doing drugs or something like that, I would just try to make people laugh.”
That’s Distefano’s particular brand of magic: He transforms life’s absurdities into your escape.
The multiplatform entertainer launched his career on MTV’s Guy Code and Girl Code, where his combustible energy found its natural home among other comedians riffing on modern life. From there, he starred in IFC’s Benders, co-hosted Netflix’s Ultimate Beastmaster and hosted Vice TV’s Super Maximum Retro Show. His 2022 Netflix special, Speshy Weshy, and Size 38 Waist on Comedy Central cemented what fans already knew: This guy can turn a frenetic, sweaty hour into nonstop laughter.
Distefano has conquered the pod-

cast universe too, co-hosting the culthit History Hyenas with Yannis Pappas and running his solo show Chrissy Chaos, a title that doubles as personal branding. He’s a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and Your Mom’s House, where his stories ricochet off other comedians like conversational pinball. Television appearances on Impractical Jokers and The Deuce have kept him visible between stand-up gigs, and new projects are perpetually in the pipeline.
The Aces of Comedy series has built its reputation on bringing both legends and rising stars to MGM Grand’s stage. Distefano fits snugly into that lineup, a comedian hitting his prime at full, ADHD-fueled throttle. His delivery is like a conversation on maximum caffeine, turning personal catastrophes into rapid-fire punchlines before you realize he’s already moved on to the next disaster.
It’s the comedy equivalent of getting pulled into a whirlwind. All you can really do is hang on and laugh.

Def Leppard brings its classic catalog back to Las Vegas
By Genevie Durano
Selling out the same city twice surely gives a band a certain level of confidence. When Def Leppard returns to Las Vegas this February for its third residency— this time at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace—it’s not about proving anything but simply showing up for the fans who’ve been there since Pyromania
The 12-show run follows sold-out residencies in 2013 and 2019, marking the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees’ first time at The Colosseum. For a band that’s moved 110 million albums worldwide and lasted four decades in the music industry, this one is all about fine-tuning an already well-honed instrument.
Lead singer Joe Elliott has said Las Vegas works as a main attraction for Def Leppard, and it’s hard to argue. “There’s no place on Earth where you can have the likes of Adele, U2 and The Eagles all playing sold-out shows on the same night,” Elliott said.
This time around, the band arrives with serious momentum. Its 2024 single with Tom Morello, “Just Like 73,” hit No. 1 on the Mediabase Classic Rock chart. Guitarist Phil Collen—who joined Def Leppard in 1982 and helped define the band’s signature dual-guitar sound—describes the track as pulling from that early-’70s moment when David Bowie turned everything technicolor. Elliott calls it a celebration of influences that are deeply ingrained in the band’s DNA. It’s the kind of music that doesn’t just stick with you, it shapes how you think about what rock can be.
Speaking of DNA, Def Leppard’s includes Pyromania (11x platinum), Hysteria (14x platinum) and songs such as “Love Bites” that are embedded into the rotation. But the band’s recent work shows it’s not merely resting on the hits. Diamond
Star Halos (2022) was all about collaboration, while Drastic Symphonies (2023), recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard ’s Current Classical chart and hit No. 4 in the U.K., the band’s highest chart position there in over 30 years.
The residency follows a touring cycle that’s notched some serious numbers. The band sold about a million tickets on its 2018 North American run, then topped that with 2.1 million tickets across 27 countries during the 2022-’23 stadium tour with Mötley Crüe. Last summer’s

amphitheater dates with Bret Michaels, The Struts and Extreme wrapped on Aug. 31 in Virginia Beach, making the February shows at Caesars a natural follow-up.
The Colosseum’s 4,300-seat capacity offers something arenas can’t. Here, every seat matters, with sightlines and acous-
tics designed around a singular concert experience. Caesars Entertainment has promised a new production setup for the band, though as far as specifics go, fans will have to buy a ticket to find out. Given the band’s track record, it’s safe to assume it’ll deliver. After all, Def
Leppard has spent four decades figuring out how to meet audiences where they are, whether in a stadium in Denver or a theater in Las Vegas. This third residency round confirms what two sold-out runs already suggested: Las Vegas and Def Leppard were built for each other.

There’s no end to the Super Bowl viewing parties in Vegas
If you haven’t yet planned your Super Bowl viewing party, fret not! There are so many quality options available at all price points and for any size group. Read on, get your
reservations (or, in some cases, just walk in) and get ready for the biggest sports parties of the year!
Westgate Las Vegas offers perhaps the most impressive viewing party in town with its iconic SuperBook—the world’s largest of its kind! If you want to try your luck, there are first-come, first-served seats available, but we really recommend reservations, as this one fills up fast. Once you’re comfortable, get ready for a day full of fun betting options with SuperBook’s prop menu, featuring nearly 500 unique wagering options. And the drink specials really can’t be beat, including five beers for $20, $6 pints and $50 beer towers.
Westgate Las Vegas also offers free admission to its International Theater (this is all first-come, first-served), which features three giant high-def screens as well as food and beverage options and prize giveaways. There’s also free viewing at the property’s International Bar.
Over at the Grand Bazaar Shops, Bottled Blonde Las Vegas—one of the Strip’s newest and hottest multilevel venues—offers two distinct choices: the first floor, with a buffet-and-bar experience for $188.88 per person, or the rooftop, where packages can range anywhere from $1,000-$2,000 depending on location and party size. Whatever you choose, the viewing options are plentiful, with plenty

of wall-to-wall screens and full game audio throughout the spacious venue. (Reservations are recommended for both levels, although there is first-come, firstserved seating on the first level at the bar.)
Gilley’s at Treasure Island ramps up Super Bowl Sunday with a watch party featuring all you can eat and drink (tickets are $150).
Cabo Wabo Cantina at Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood offers a $250-per-person tailgate-style buffet and all-you-can-drink options. Din-
ing offerings include tortilla chips and salsa, house-made Caesar salad, shrimp cocktail, chicken wings, beef and chicken sliders and much more, while drinks are made with Sammy Hagar’s Santo Tequila, Sammy’s Mezquila and Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum. Screens include a 200-inch video grid and 200-inch projection screen. There’s also seating in the private upstairs lounge (reservations required).
There are no shortage of Big Game celebrations over at Resorts World, but if you’re a fan of cigars, it won’t get
much better than Eight Lounge, where the offerings include multiple screens for optimal viewing to go along with a curated selection of premium cigars and smoked cocktails ($150 per person minimum spend).
Combine your party with some laughs at Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club at The Linq Promenade, featuring host Vicki Barbolak and food and drink specials.

Jabbawockeez lights up the stage in new show FREQNCY
at MGM Grand
By Kiko Miyasato
Have you ever heard someone say, “We’re all operating on the same frequency?” While some might think this is hippie-dippy talk, there is some substantial science behind it. Some believe that humans around
the world are connected through mental, emotional and physical ties. While one could go down a rabbit hole figuring out the equations of why this happens, Jabbawockeez presents those connections through dance
and music, exploring the ties that bind all humans with its new show, FREQNCY, at MGM Grand. But don’t get it twisted; the show isn’t a brainteaser and you don’t have to think too hard—it’s meant to be fun and funny while being emotional and awe-inspiring, rolled up with all the amazing and innovative dance moves the troupe is famous for.
Jabbawockeez, established in 2003 and winners of the first season of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew, proved that its style of dance and theatrics could draw crowds. It became the first act of its kind to headline a Las Vegas venue in 2010; landed a residency show in 2012; followed with several iterations through the years; and introduced FREQNCY late last year.
The Jabbawockeez crew have also become famous for not showing their faces, donning signature white masks in every show including FREQNCY. “The plain white masks worn by the Jabbawockeez hold significant importance as they symbolize anonymity, unity and artistic expression within the realm of hip-hop dance,” Joe Larot, Jabbawockeez co-founder and co-CEO, told Las Vegas Magazine. “These masks have become iconic in our performances, serving as a visual representation of our collective identity and unique style. Through our skilled choreography and captivating routines, we have elevated the plain
white mask to a symbol of artistry and creativity in the world of dance entertainment.” Throughout the show, costumes change but the masks stay on, giving more emphasis to the group’s synchronicity and performance as one unified group.
The running theme through FREQNCY is how humanity connects with one another, how we all operate on the same plane of love, wonder and unity, but it also a show of entertainment, an exciting journey through styles, decades and genres of dance and music; and it wouldn’t be a Jabbawockeez show without comedy and innovative technology thrown in.
The changing sets play with visually stunning technology while amazing breakdancing moves, overthe-top routines, acrobatics and tumbling all set to hip-hop, rock, R&B, EDM
and pop, are the focal point.
The choreography is a blend of signature Jabbawockeez moves and innovative and unique styles of dance.
“Our choreography is like a gourmet dish of dance
moves, carefully crafted with intricate footwork, synchronized movements, and a sprinkle of theatrical flair that leaves audiences craving more,” Larot said.
Audience participation, be it onstage or hoots and hollers from your seat, is encouraged, too. While the show provides plenty of feels and deeper meaning, it also has a frequency that’s dialed into those party vibes.
The palatial Imperial Sky Villa at Westgate Las Vegas celebrates icon Elvis Presley
BY KIKO MIYASATO PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRISTOPHER DEVARGAS
Last year would have been Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday, but since the King of Rock ’n’ Roll passed at just 42, the pelvis that belonged to Elvis is only a fond memory. But in his short tenure, he is still the biggest-selling solo artist of all time. And besides Graceland, no other place in the world is synonymous with Elvis more than Las Vegas. It was his 1969 concert series that helped open The International hotel (that is now the Westgate Las Vegas) and established Elvis’ reign over the city—with 636 consecutive sold-out shows over a span of seven years. In honor of his 90th birthday, the property launched its “Year of Elvis” celebration, and that included the unveiling of the Imperial Sky Villa that has been decorated with Elvis images and storytelling plaques throughout. The four-bedroom, five-bathroom, 13,200 square-foot suite sits on the top floor of the hotel and was once called the “Elvis Presley Suite” because it’s where the superstar lived during his historic run of shows. Not only do guests get to explore the new design touches dedicated to Elvis, but they can walk in his footsteps.
Walking through the double doors to the suite, guests are first greeted with a beautiful, huge living space. Fun fact: The suite has since been reconfigured since Elvis slept there, but the living space is where his bedroom once was, so guests get to literally stand where he once slept. (What is now the giant fireplace was where his bed used to sit.) Another cool feature in the living space is a plaque of the original blueprints of the top floor of the hotel, including Elvis’ suite. You can see where the bedrooms were, the kitchen and dining room, terrace and where his bandmates slept. There was even a lounge on the top floor called the Skyroom, where Elvis and friends would spend time partying and performing. This space is also where you’ll spot the first of the suite’s photographs of Elvis—from July 28, 1969, a backstage shot of him prior to his first show at The International.
For a movie night, settle into the media room. For a dip, there’s a private pool with deck for sunbathing, lounging and eating. Each room has a gas-lit fireplace and hand-painted murals on the walls. Multiple floor-to-ceiling windows allow for unbeatable views of the city and beyond.
Spa-inspired bathrooms in the two master suites are huge and unbelievable in their design with marble-walled showers, double vanities, walk-in closets, step-down Jacuzzi tubs, his and her water closets, fireplaces and luxurious toiletries.
Check out the series of three photographs of Elvis at a press conference after his first performance at The International. It includes a transcript of questions from reporters, and his responses. Questions like, “How long do you rehearse for these shows?” “How do you choose the songs for the show?” “Why have you led such a secluded life all these years?” “Is it true you dye your hair?” and the question, “Elvis, is there any other individual you’d rather be?” and his answer, “Are you kidding me???”
More Elvis photos and factoids to enjoy include: Elvis at his Aloha From Hawaii concert special where he performed at the Honolulu International Center Arena—the show was beamed live through satellite across the globe on Jan. 14, 1973; Elvis performing onstage at the International Hotel with fun facts about his run of shows; Elvis smiling during one of his press conferences after one of his shows at The International. When asked how he felt performing live again he responded, “This has been one of the most exciting nights of my life”; and a black-and-white photo of Elvis blowing fans a kiss.
We pricked up our ears and what did we hear? Read on and have a laugh at what Las Vegas visitors are saying. Who knows? You may find one of your own quotes here!
