Embracing Wellness and Beauty Therapies

Editor’s Letter

In this issue, we delve a bit deeper into the topic of well-being. Feeling whole (our mantra and manifestation) is about finding inner peace and contentment, where all aspects of our lives (read more about the eight pillars of wellness in our pages) align. The month is calling for embracing all parts of yourself, the good and the bad, and finding a state of being that transcends perfection and praises self-acceptance, with an opportunity to cultivate good habits. We bring an explanation of the true meaning of wellness, along with three spa treatments to inspire you in finding the balance we all seek, as well as regional beauty brands that focus on sustainable products. Fashion is about looking good, which is also a way of improving your self-esteem. With AW2025 collections now in shops, we've selected a few styles that caught our attention, including the big comeback of skinny trousers and the timeless versatility of the white shirt.

For me, travelling is a way of taking care of myself. Exploring new places helps me re-energise and reset. I was lucky to stay at Our Habitas Ras Abrouq, a unique desert getaway just a short drive from Doha. However, I also jumped at the opportunity to travel to Seychelles. In Mahé, I relaxed at Constance Ephelia, and in Praslin, I unwound at Constance Lemuria. Don't miss out on uncovering these incredible destinations with me.

Good food improves anyone's mood. We had a lovely afternoon tea at Ledoux, Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay and enjoyed Peruvian flavours at La Mar Doha by Gastón Acurio, InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa.

We end our publication with a stylish drive behind the wheel of the Porsche Panamera Manufacturer Edition – a girl needs to thrive!

The Micro JACKET

This month, we chose to highlight a clothing piece that caught our eye: the cropped blazer

Tuxedo-inspired design is Celine’s take on this garment. A smart choice for those seeking a lightweight cover for their evening wear – we adore anything chic and elegant.

This Loro Piana outfit resembles the Spanish bullfighter’s clothes with an embellished short jacket, a cute way to add an interesting touch to formal attire.

Miu Miu’s version has shorter sleeves in a structured silhouette – it works well as a nice add-on to plain tees and jeans.

The regional brand Onori has an artsy approach. This green number adds an eye-catching detail to plain outfits.

With a less formal approach, Hermès bets on a cropped jacket that mixes tailoring with a sporty touch for a nice twist.

BETWEEN THE LINES

Stripes are a popular pattern choice in the fashion world. The visual effect is what makes this motif thrive: vertical designs are known for adding height and elegance, horizontal lines provide balance and stability, while diagonal columns create dynamism and energy.

RADIANT OUTFITS

Bright hues can add a vibrant touch to your autumn wardrobe. Solid tones of yellow, red, pink, blue and green are the perfect choice for painting your evening dress and letting you shine against the darkness of the night.

A SANCTUARY

Indulge in award-winning treatments, serene surroundings, and holistic wellbeing in the heart of Doha Oasis.

It’s time to put your floral Bardot dress, which still smells like sunscreen, in the back of the wardrobe and embrace winter items with their long sleeves, turtle necks and midi length. They will warm you up and put you in an elegant winter mood.

THE WHITE SHIRT

If there is a clothing item that can be called a girl’s best friend, it is the white shirt. This super versatile piece offers an array of styling options – it can be worn under dresses, help with layering and even get a touch of embellishment.

Greatest of All Time

The iconic Lacoste Crocodile has temporarily stepped aside for a new animal in the brand’s story: the GOAT. Celebrating Novak Djokovic’s status as the ‘Greatest of All Time’ in tennis, Lacoste has released a limited-edition capsule collection called From the Crocodile to the Goat. The capsule comprises five essentials: a polo, T-shirt, tracksuit jacket, cap and trousers, all bearing the one-off GOAT insignia. A Lacoste ambassador for over eight years, Djokovic embodies the brand’s pursuit of excellence while redefining the limits of the sport. With 24 Grand Slam titles, more weeks at World No. 1 than any player, the most Grand Slam match wins and a record number of ATP Masters 1000 victories, he stands unmatched. The collection was launched at Lacoste’s new Fifth Avenue flagship in New York, a fitting location tied to René Lacoste’s own legacy.

Walking On Clouds

On has launched a new campaign with Zendaya titled ‘Be Every You,’ marking the latest step in their long-term collaboration. The project explores ideas of identity and duality, with Zendaya both starring in and shaping the narrative alongside stylist Law Roach. The campaign introduces the Cloudzone Moon, Zendaya’s first co-created shoe with the Swiss sportswear brand. The design adapts On’s Cloudzone silhouette, adding a sculpted midsole with CloudTec cushioning, breathable mesh and enhanced support for everyday wear. A follow-up model, the Cloudtilt Moon, arrives this month with softer construction for recovery and all-day comfort. Filmmaker Bardia Zeinali directed the campaign film, which moves through four staged environments reflecting contrasts such as chaos and calm, while photographs by Emily Lipson highlight the collection’s layered styling. Alongside footwear, the Autumn and Winter 2025 range also features versatile apparel, including a bomber jacket, bodysuit and track set.

From the Ground Up

BIRKENSTOCK is extending its CARE ESSENTIALS line beyond foot care with the launch of a body care range. Made in Germany and powered by 100% natural-origin ingredients, the collection introduces four products designed for both hands and body: Relaxing and Balancing Hand & Body Wash and Lotion, available individually or as duos. The range adheres to the brand’s principles of function, quality and tradition, combining certified natural formulations with a sensorial experience. All products are vegan-certified, sulphate-free, COSMOS natural-certified and are produced with sustainability in mind. Packaging is made in Europe using FSC-certified cardboard and recycled aluminium bottles and tubes. “We’re excited to empower both our loyal footbed fans and new audiences to care from the ground up,” said Quentin Ojeda, Director of BIRKENSTOCK Cosmetics.

Reimagining a Childhood Classic

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story, Levi’s has released a limited-edition collection inspired by Woody, Buzz Lightyear and the spirit of the Western frontier. The collaboration transforms iconic film moments into denim staples and playful designs. Men’s pieces include the standout Western Jacket with custom studs referencing Woody’s belt buckle, Pizza Planet and the Space Ranger logo, alongside rodeo shirts, quilted vests, truckers jackets and flared jeans. Details such as Andy’s handwriting on pocket bags and Saddleman graphics add collectable value. For women, highlights include a Type II Jacket with chain-stitched ‘Yodelayheehoo’ embroidery, cow print denim shirts and Ribcage Bell jeans with Western-inspired embroidery. Graphic tees, hoodies and accessories (from cowboy hats to bandanas) complete the range. Each design blends authentic Western aesthetics with the whimsy of Andy’s toy box, celebrating a film that has defined the childhood of generations.

Fleeting Nature, Frozen in JEWELLERY

Boucheron’s Impermanence collection brings nature to life through multi-wear high jewellery pieces.

This year’s Carte Blanche High Jewellery collection from Boucheron, titled Impermanence, takes a close look at how fleeting the world around us is.

Conceived by Creative Director Claire Choisne, the collection builds on her earlier explorations of nature’s fragility, most notably the 2018 Eternal Flowers. While January’s Histoire de Style: Untamed Nature paid tribute to Frédéric Boucheron’s vision, Impermanence is a more personal interpretation, drawing inspiration from Japanese philosophies of ikebana, the art of flower arranging, and wabi-sabi, an aesthetic which embraces imperfection and impermanence.

The collection is made up of six compositions, each representing a stage in the gradual fading of light. Starting with Composition No6, the brightest and ending with Composition No1, the darkest, the works symbolise nature’s cycle from vitality to disappearance. Across these six creations, 28 transformable jewellery pieces have been crafted, collectively requiring more than 18,000 hours of work.

Materials and techniques vary widely throughout the entire collection. Composition No6 captures the delicacy of a tulip and eucalyptus in borosilicate glass (a material rarely used at this level) alongside a dragonfly fashioned from sapphire glass, mother-ofpearl, white gold and diamonds. In Composition No5, thistles are rendered in plant-based resin via high-resolution 3D printing (an impressive feat in jewellery making), with 800 diamonds secured using a newly developed ‘couture’ setting technique. A rhinoceros beetle in white gold completes No5.

Composition No4 combines cyclamens and oats with nearly 700 rose-cut diamonds set into petals, alongside a caterpillar and butterfly in white gold, spinels and diamonds. In Composition No3, iris and wisteria flowers are modelled using titanium, ceramic and aluminium, with a stag beetle anchoring the piece.

The fading of light is made more pronounced in Composition No2, where a magnolia branch appears skeletal, its form captured in aluminium and white gold, accompanied by a stick insect crafted in white gold and diamonds. Finally, Composition No1 takes the concept to its limit, where a poppy and sweet pea emerge from near-total darkness, with petals coated in Vantablack (a very dark material that absorbs almost all visible light). Black spinels, aventurine glass, onyx and titanium add further depth, while a butterfly with transparent black glass wings completes the composition.

Through Impermanence, tulips, thistles, cyclamens, magnolias, poppies and other motifs become brooches, rings, hair pieces or head jewels, letting the wearer style nature in a variety of forms.

Southern Africa’s deserts, wildlife and light serve as the blueprint for Terres d’Instinct, the new High Jewellery chapter for Messika.

This year marks 20 years since Valérie Messika founded her eponymous jewellery maison and to celebrate, she has unveiled a new High Jewellery collection unlike any before. Terres d’Instinct is a body of work born from a journey through Namibia, where Valérie was struck by vast ochre landscapes, fierce light and the commanding presence of wildlife. It’s this encounter with untamed nature that forms the heartbeat of the collection.

The designs draw from the contrasts of Southern Africa, namely Namibia, Botswana and South Africa, where desert sands, mineral-rich plains and wild creatures each leave their trace. The jewellery reflects these impressions in bold ways: textured gold surfaces, deep incisions, graphic stripes and shimmering pavé replicate the landscapes and their energy. In this first chapter, 16 sets have been created, each one exploring the dialogue between raw natural forces and refinement.

One of the centrepieces is the Kalahara necklace, which features two yellow diamonds, a massive 34.92-carat fancy intense yellow, radiant-cut stone and a 3.61-carat fancy yellow, radiant-cut stone. The design incorporates 3,298 smaller diamonds totalling 103.30 carats. Beyond its scale, the piece is also modular: it can be worn as a triple-row plastron, a double-row necklace, a choker or as a pendant necklace, offering four distinct silhouettes within one creation.

The Mirage piece reflects the movement of the Sossusvlei dunes, where brushed gold surfaces and pavé diamonds form volumes that appear to ripple and settle, just like the desert’s shifting contours. In Zebra Mnyama, onyx contrasts with baguette-cut diamonds in a sharp, architectural rhythm, anchored by two shield-cut diamonds of 1.52 and 1.50 carats. Fauve interprets the strength of the lion, its brushed gold carved with claw-like marks that cut across the surface, set against the light of 2,491 diamonds weighing 70.28 carats.

For Messika, the collection is also a step into new territory. While the brand is best known for its diamond expertise, Terres d’Instinct embraces coloured gemstones for the first time. Rubies, sapphires, emeralds, spinels and garnets join the narrative, bringing a palette that mirrors Africa’s vivid hues of sunset reds, oasis greens and turquoise exotic plumage. The Divine Enigma set has even been reimagined around a 30-carat Zambian emerald, a striking emblem of this new creative chapter.

Despite this expansion into colour, diamonds remain at the centre. Cuts ranging from cushion and baguette to heart, radiant and shield are paired with an array of setting techniques, including bezel, snow and halo. Across the collection, light becomes a narrative thread, with each piece designed to highlight the brilliance and adaptability of the stones while balancing sculptural form.

THE POWER OF TWO IN ONE

Huda Beauty introduces Easy Bake Duo, offering pink and peach setting powders in one pack.

Huda Beauty’s Easy Bake has long held cult status as a setting powder, and now it arrives in a new format, the Easy Bake Duo. Designed to combine colour correction and brightening in one compact design, the duo brings together two shades that can be used separately or blended for a customised finish. The idea is simple but clever. Each pack contains a pink shade to lift and brighten, and a peach shade to correct and neutralise dark circles. For light to medium skin tones, the Cherry Peach duo features the bestselling Cherry Blossom Cake, a sheer soft pink, alongside Peach Pie, a light peach. For deeper skin tones, the Pink Pumpkin duo introduces two entirely new shades - Pink Velvet Cookie, a deep rosy pink, and Pumpkin Pie, a deep salmon peach.

The powders promise up to 18 hours of wear with a blurring matte airbrush finish that absorbs oil, controls shine and sets make-up without flashback (the unwanted white cast that appears on the face in flash photography). Formulated to be non-comedogenic, the lightweight texture is enriched with rice starch powder to minimise pores, features micronised particles to prevent caking and contains vitamin E to provide a smoother application.

The packaging is flexible. A rotating selector allows you to choose one shade at a time or mix the two together, with the option to remove the divider entirely for easier dispensing. The process is straightforward: twist to select, shake to dispense and bake to set.

BEAUTIFUL

Across the Middle East, beauty brands are proving that luxury and responsibility can go hand in hand. Bushra Hakim spotlights regional brands leading the way.

Beauty isn’t just about how you look on the outside anymore; it’s also about what you stand for. From the creams we apply to the perfumes we wear, the brands we choose are a reflection of our values just as much as our style. In the Middle East, a quiet revolution is happening, where local brands are proving that luxury, efficacy and environmental responsibility can coexist. These brands are rethinking ingredients, packaging and production, merging science with the region’s rich heritage and culture. Here is a list of the ones leading the way in redefining what ‘green’ beauty looks like.

Amouage, Oman

Known for crafting some of the world’s most complex perfumes, Amouage has also become a steward of one of Oman’s most precious natural resources: frankincense. In partnership with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the brand now harvests Boswellia sacra trees in Wadi Dawkah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project not only safeguards sustainable sourcing but also employs and trains harvesters in traditional harvesting skills. With FairWild certification, each drop of frankincense is traceable and ethically collected. By investing in heritage and biodiversity, Amouage demonstrates how a luxury house can work with responsibility.

@amouageofficial

Arcadia, UAE

Arcadia by Amna is all about sustainability. Every perfume is crueltyfree, handcrafted locally and made using high-quality ingredients that are safe for both people and the environment. Packaging is designed to minimise waste, which is why bottles are reused during production, and all pouches are made from natural fabrics that can be repurposed. Even small details, like the omission of magnetic caps in favour of steel closures, reduce unnecessary materials. Beyond perfumes, their candle holders for Bakhoor and Midkhan are handmade using recycled cement and reused steel, supporting local artisans while keeping the ecological footprint low.

@arcadiabyamna

Asteri Beauty, Saudi Arabia

Asteri Beauty has been steadily gaining recognition across the Middle East for combining bold, high-performance make-up with a strong commitment to sustainability. It recently received its B Corp certification for meeting strict social and environmental standards, balancing accountability and transparency. Over 70% of its products use post-consumer recycled materials, with refillable options and FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) cartons, while all sourcing is cruelty-free and ethical. Beyond its vegan formulas and mindful production, Asteri invests in community engagement and celebrates Arab heritage through design and storytelling.

@asteribeautysa

Green Bar, Bahrain

Founded by Reem Al Khalifa, Green Bar is one of the first homegrown brands in Bahrain to put natural skincare at the forefront. Every soap, oil and cream is handmade using botanicals grown in her family garden or sourced from local farmers, reducing the footprint of imported ingredients while supporting community livelihoods. The formulas avoid synthetics, leaning more on botanicals like mint, rose and mulberry, boosted with the richness of mango and shea butter. The packaging remains minimal to reduce waste, while the brand’s café extends its ethos of wellness from skincare to plant-based dining. It’s a holistic model of sustainability, rooted in the land.

@greenbarshop

This Emirati skincare label is small but serious about the welfare of our planet. Mariam Em utilises postconsumer recycled (PCR) plastic in its packaging, avoids unnecessary promotional materials and is transitioning towards refillable systems to minimise waste. On the formulation side, the brand embraces a simpler, cleaner ingredient list inspired by local botanicals, such as the Sidr tree (Ziziphus Spina-Christi), a desert plant prized for its healing qualities. The result is skincare that is both effective and mindful of its environmental footprint, with transparency at its core. By focussing on what’s inside the bottle as much as outside, Mariam Em sets a clear example of modern green beauty in the region.

Mariam Em, UAE

Torba Naturals, Qatar

Torba Naturals is built on a true farm-to-bottle philosophy, with many of its ingredients grown on the brand’s own permaculture farm in Qatar. Founded by twins Mohammed and Fatma Al Khater, it revives native plants and traditional remedies, transforming them into clean, chemical-free skincare, wellness and home essentials. Thoughtfulness runs through every stage: crops are cultivated using regenerative agriculture, packaging is refillable or plastic-free, and collaborations with local artisans and farmers strengthen the community around them. The result is a brand where beauty and well-being remain closely tied to the land itself.

Women’s Empowerment with a TOUCH OF PINK

Pinky Blush Beauty Lounge is a destination where wellness meets connection – a stage for beautification and materialisation of ideas.

There is a lot of conversation around the theme of beauty worldwide that goes beyond vanity, and Qatar has not been left behind. Pinky Blush Beauty Lounge is changing the perspective of this industry in the country by transforming its brand into a Global Women’s Hub – a pioneering initiative.

At the forefront of this movement is Myrna Al Haddad, founder of Pinky Blush, as well as a writer, women’s rights activist and international speaker. Through her already recognised sanctuary of beauty and wellness, she is reimagining something more profound: a living community of women that transcends nationality, religion and profession.

The concept that Myrna envisions is the foundation of Qatar’s first global women’s club – an exclusive yet welcoming circle where women of every age and background gather to share experiences, attend events, support one another’s ambitions and collectively redefine what it means to thrive.

Pinky Blush already embraces many facets of expression, each corner of the lounge carries the story of a woman – an entrepreneur, an artist, a leader, an innovator, a dreamer. They arrive not merely for self-care, but for connection, inspiration and empowerment. It is a space where ideas are exchanged as naturally as greetings, where collaborations are born from casual conversations and where women discover a stage for their voices alongside a mirror for their beauty.

In a rapidly evolving society, Pinky Blush stands as both a luxury destination and a movement of modern sisterhood, proving that a beauty lounge can serve as a bridge between cultures, a catalyst for dreams and a symbol of the next generation of women’s spaces in the region.

Finding Your BALANCE

From emotional resilience to calming treatments, wellness takes many forms. Ahead of OSWA Qatar 2025, we explore its eight pillars alongside remarkable spa experiences.

Wellness is a word that gets thrown around a lot and is often associated with yoga mats, smoothie bowls or the gym. But the truth is, it’s so much more than that. Instead, it’s about creating balance across every area of life, right from how we manage stress to the way we connect with others and even how we look after our bank accounts. To live well, we need to think of wellness as a multi-dimensional aspect. Here’s a look at its eight key types and how you can nurture them in everyday life.

PHYSICAL

Exercise is what people think of when they hear the word physical fitness. But it’s less about sculpted abs and more about building habits that support your body long-term. That could mean walking to clear your head, eating foods that energise you or getting enough rest to recover properly. Consistency in all of these basics is what actually keeps you fit.

EMOTIONAL

We all experience stress, frustration and sadness, but being emotionally well is about how we respond to those feelings. It’s recognising emotions without judgement and having healthy ways to manage them. That might mean journalling, practising mindfulness or leaning on a trusted friend or mentor for support. Building resilience allows you to bounce back from life’s challenges instead of being swept away by them.

INTELLECTUAL

Keeping your mind active is just as important as keeping your body moving. Intellectual wellness comes from curiosity, learning and creativity. Reading, completing puzzles, exploring a new hobby or even engaging in conversations that challenge your perspective can all help. In fact, studies have shown that these activities help increase grey matter. It’s about feeding your brain with ideas that stretch it beyond the everyday routine.

SOCIAL

Strong connections are vital for a fulfilling life. Social well-being is about nurturing relationships that are supportive, positive and meaningful. Quality is more important than quantity here; a couple of good friendships often matter more than dozens of acquaintances. Make time for loved ones, communicate openly and don’t be afraid to set boundaries to protect your energy.

SPIRITUAL

Spirituality doesn’t necessarily mean religion; rather, it’s about finding purpose and meaning in life. Some people connect through faith, others through meditation, time in nature or simply pausing to reflect on what matters most to them. Aligning your values with your actions creates a sense of peace and direction, no matter what form your practice takes.

OCCUPATIONAL

Considering how much time we spend working, our jobs have a huge impact on our health. This aspect is about finding satisfaction in what you do, whether that’s in a formal career, creative projects or volunteer work. Feeling valued and aligned with your strengths can boost motivation and morale, while setting boundaries helps maintain balance, prevent burnout and avoid conflicts.

ENVIRONMENTAL

The spaces we live and work in play a bigger role in our well-being than many of us realise. A cluttered, noisy or chaotic environment can increase stress, while an organised, calm and sustainable space supports clarity and peace of mind. Spending time outdoors, adding greenery indoors or even small steps like recycling can improve your connection to your environment.

FINANCIAL

Money doesn’t buy happiness, but financial stress can most definitely take it away. Being well-off financially means managing your resources wisely – budgeting, saving and making decisions that support both your present needs and future goals. It’s not about being wealthy, but about feeling secure and in control, with spending choices that reflect your priorities as well as values.

With all this in mind, the October issue feels especially meaningful as we count down to the Ohlala Spa & Wellness Awards Qatar 2025 (OSWA), now in its ninth edition. Over the years, OSWA has celebrated the very best that Qatar has to offer and it continues to highlight how these sanctuaries contribute to our sense of balance and renewal. After all, embracing therapies that calm the body and restore the mind is just as vital as nurturing healthy habits. This month, we’ve explored three very different but equally enriching treatments. One experience combines a massage therapy with a grounding foot ritual, smudging, breathing techniques and singing bowls, for a holistic journey that soothes both body and spirit. Another takes inspiration from the East, blending the techniques of Thai and Balinese massage into a deeply restorative session. For those seeking a simple yet powerful relaxation experience, we have uncovered a rejuvenating massage designed to release tension and encourage complete stillness.

A THERAPY FOR BODY AND SOUL

Signature massages are a great way to get the real feel of a spa. Fernanda Langhammer tried Quan Spa’s Blissful Dream, a treatment that focusses on meditation and relaxation.

Idon’t know if you share the same feeling as I do, but sometimes all you need to keep going is a spa session that not only delivers a good massage but also gives you a sense of recharging your batteries. Something that touches you deeper than just fixing your back knots. Also, being located at an address on your way home, let’s say, is a big plus. I believe that Quan Spa at JW Marriott Marquis City Center Doha combines unique therapies and the practicality we all look for.

Quan Spa is one of those places that, by just stepping in, you feel that something good is going to happen to you there, that good gut feeling. Maybe it’s the wall covered in plaques with our Ohlala Spa & Wellness Awards received over the years that gives this air of confidence, a credibility that helps me to relax, knowing that I will be in great hands. But it could also be Tyla, the spa receptionist’s, beautiful smile or the décor that transports you to a haven of tranquillity and wellness.

The dark wood, in contrast with light beige accents, grey walls, beautiful panels featuring floral motifs and indirect lighting, creates a vibe of understated luxury. I was invited to sit in a semi-private area to answer Tyla’s questions regarding my health and treatment expectations. She served me a Summer Refresher drink made with rosemary (from the JW garden), lemon and honey – indeed a refreshing elixir that helped me settle into the calming environment. I also chose which oil I would like to use in my massage, I picked chamomile for its soothing properties and pleasant smell.

I was then introduced to Elvira, my therapist, who took me to my treatment room. On the way, we passed by an eye-catching installation inside a wooden structure with white pebbles and singing bowls that looked like a garden of peace, inspiring. We then reached the VIP room called Topaz. To my surprise, there was a beautiful arrangement made with flower petals and leaves on one of the beds, welcoming OHLALA to this insightful experience. What a great start! If I had a sense of confidence and relaxation before, happiness joined the pool of feelings. Elvira started by explaining the steps of this 90-minute signature therapy. Blissful Dream involves a foot ritual, smudging and a breathing ceremony, followed by a massage that works with long, firm, flowing movements and therapeutic techniques, ending with a singing bowl practice to reduce stress and calm the mind.

After the foot cleanse with salt and soap, we began the therapy with the smudging ritual, which involves burning medicinal plants to purify, cleanse negative energy and promote healing, balance and spiritual connection. The herb was sage mixed with frankincense resin and Elvira asked me to breathe in the smoke, repeating words of affirmation while keeping my eyes closed. She also asked me to pick a gem to hold while experiencing this mindful process. I chose the blue lace agate, which promotes emotional balance and fosters inner peace. It is also a stone for communication, supporting harmonious expression. I suppose I could improve my communication skills and express my feelings more effectively. After the purification rite, we moved to the bed to start with the body massage. Elvira’s touch was precise but gentle, as per my request. She worked out my back knots and then applied pressure to the marma points, specific vital points on the body where muscles, veins, ligaments, bones and joints meet. Working on these areas is believed to clear energy blockages, improve blood circulation and restore physical and emotional balance. It felt as if she removed a ton of weight from my body, and I felt lighter and at ease.

But the therapy didn’t end there. Elvira then rhythmically played the singing bowl around my entire body. The vibrations and resonant sounds are known to promote benefits such as improved sleep, lower blood pressure and increased concentration. The sound waves are believed to connect with the body’s energy and also influence brainwaves and the nervous system. I wouldn’t mind having my sleep improved, to be honest. I do struggle with it from time to time. I noticed that I felt a state of complete relaxation afterwards. When she told me that the treatment was finished, I didn’t want to move. I was too comfortable and had achieved deep tranquillity.

I got back into my everyday clothes and sat thinking about this incredible journey. I really appreciated that it combines the essence of different healing traditions in such a harmonious way. I felt renewed and grateful and I highly recommend it for those, like me, in need of a full reset.

A Restorative Massage in

a MAGICAL SETTING

Looking for some relaxing me-time, SD heads to ESPA for a memorable treatment.

The only way to describe ESPA at Mondrian Doha is otherworldly. Renowned Dutch architect Marcel Wanders has created nothing short of a wonder when bringing this magical and serene space to life.

When I enter the spa reception, I am immediately enveloped by a whiff of luxury. There are beautiful chandeliers dotted around, complemented by a bold grey and white abstract-style floor. It almost feels like I am walking on a large piece of art. I stroll past three glass cloches that house coveted spa awards. Nice, a reassuring start, I would say.

There are cosy seating nooks everywhere and the cream tones evoke a strong sense of sophistication. The contrast is quite incredible. From contemporary elegance to dreamlike fantasy, the contradicting elements blend in a seamless manner, showing the incredible design prowess of Marcel Wanders. This is truly a sanctuary.

A cold butterfly tea and a hot rose-shaped towel later, I am ready for my Signature 60-minute massage, in the trusty hands of my therapist, Martini. She walks me to my treatment room, but on the way, we stop by the different treatment areas and relaxation spaces in the spa.

The most striking is the vibrant mosaic relaxation area with swings hanging from the ceiling. I’ve never seen a spa like this. Reds, pinks and whites add a fantastical feeling to the space and the crystal chandeliers swooping down feel like a sparkly rainshower. This art installation meets wellness is just the treat our eyes need before settling into complete comfort.

I slip into a fluffy robe and enter my private massage room. Martini gives me the lay of the land – admire your surroundings, choose your oil and kick back while she transports you into a deep state of relaxation.

There’s a choice between two oils – Restorative with notes of lavender, good for circulation and relaxation, and Energising with lemongrass, ideal for deeper muscle penetration.

Since I am a light to medium pressure type of person, the obvious choice is Restorative. Plus, the lavender smells divine.

After making myself comfortable face down on the spa bed, Martini gets started. She begins with a gentle rub down from the feet all the way up to my shoulders, over a warm towel.

The Signature massage focuses on areas that I choose – neck, shoulders, back and feet. She starts kneading my back with a mix of light and medium movements. It’s interesting how tactfully she switches between both. Unexpectedly, the treatment takes it up a notch with a hot stone. The relaxation is immense as the heat from the stone penetrates my skin, instantly creating a feeling of comfort. She spends a good 20 minutes on my aching, sore, tense back and shoulder muscles, before moving on to my feet and legs. The pressure increases – she knows exactly where the pain points are. After 30 minutes, the massage has alleviated the stress from every important muscle in my body.

Meanwhile, I can’t help but escape into Marcel Wanders’ wonderland. If I were ever to get lost in a fairytale, this is exactly where I’d like to be stuck for an indefinite period of time.

It’s time to turn over, and she continues, allowing me to completely let go and feel the pleasure of every movement. She finally addresses my scalp area, gently massaging the temples and head, until I fall asleep. Everything is a blur after that and before I completely sink into my dreams, she wakes me up as the treatment concludes. I take a few minutes to gather strength to move off of this incredibly comfortable spa bed and get dressed again.

She waits to escort me back to another relaxation area – not quite as beautiful as the previous one, but perfect for the headspace I am in. Right now, an egg-shaped swing chair would probably render me motionless for the rest of the evening.

I sit on one of the four large couches, right across from a beautifully constructed dome. The detailing is intricate and the art is masterful. The relaxation area is truly a sight to behold. The peppermint tea is just what I need right now.

It’s been unforgettable and, as I am on my way out, I stop at the reception to say goodbye and compliment the spa manager on a job well done. She gives me a really good reason to come back – the ESPA Hydrafacial Signature. It’s not an ordinary Hydrafacial; it’s a bespoke treatment in collaboration with ESPA and the brand’s flawless product range. This treatment is perfect for all skin types and is a unique therapy featuring cryotherapy globes, ice, Dermaluxe Light and Britenol Serum. I am sold and instantly make an appointment for a repeat visit to try this out.

There’s no better way to conclude an evening of pampering at a spa than locking in the next treatment. Date and time fixed – see you soon, ESPA.

A MASSAGE FOR VITALITY

Spa treatments have different goals. This month, OHLALA’s editor headed to M|Spa for a re-energising therapy that allowed her to say goodbye to her stubborn knots.

There are many ways to embrace wellness in our everyday lives and going for a massage is one of them. I am pretty lucky that I get to try many different types of therapies – in the name of work, of course. However, wellness goes beyond rubbing and kneading muscles and joints; it’s about caring for your overall health to minimise the chances of getting ill. It combines emotional, environmental, mental, physical, social and spiritual aspects to promote a balanced lifestyle. I believe that our busy schedules are excellent excuses for not doing much on behalf of our health – we simply don’t have the time. If this is something you see yourself doing a lot, maybe committing to at least having a massage once or twice a month might help you get into a state of mind that can pave the path to a healthier life.

This month, my pampering experience happened at M|Spa at Alwadi Hotel Doha - MGallery Collection, located in the heart of Msheired Downtown. The spa menu is vast, with treatments ranging from Swedish, Thai, Sport (and the list goes on) massages and facials to special packages. I headed there for the Soul Revival Signature Massage that involves a mix of techniques to enlighten and relax body and mind.

Alwadi Hotel Doha - MGallery Collection lets you immerse yourself in Qatari heritage combined with elegance and M|Spa follows the same vibe of quiet sophistication. Tones of beige, brown and white with blue accents compose the colour palette, giving a calming atmosphere. The welcome drink was a concoction of ginger, lemongrass and honey to awaken my senses and put me in a relaxed state.

I moved to the changing area to slip off my clothes and be embraced by a comfy robe. The space has all the necessary amenities for pre- and posttreatment, with a shower and sauna in case you want to relax a bit more and get ready to grab a meal in one of the hotel’s outlets, as I did. There is a locker to leave your belongings and a dispenser with refreshing infused water. The rooms are named after flowers and Lily was the one chosen for me. Julie, my therapist, invited me in. The place was illuminated in a soothing tone of blue and rose petals decorated the massage bed. There were three oils to choose from: chamomile, argan and rose. For some reason, I have always been drawn to the scent of these tiny yellow flowers, which are very popular in Western Asia so, once again, I picked chamomile. The benefits go from anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents to calming properties. It is also known to tackle anxiety and help with sleep; maybe my body is sending me signals through my olfactory senses. I am quite an energetic person and slowing down is a bit of a challenge for me – chamomile oil sounds like a good start.

The therapy began with a foot-cleansing ritual. Julie washed my feet while telling me that she would mix Thai and Balinese techniques in my massage. She is originally from Thailand, a country known for its expertise in the subject, so I knew I would be in excellent hands.

She then asked me to lie down on the massage bed with my face down, which meant that my back was her first target. I have really bad knots in the upper region that have been there for a very long time and I try to ignore their existence and let them be. However, Julie had a mission to help me find relief in my shoulder area using all her know-how. After a few motions, she said: I will fix you.

Thai massage employs an ancient healing practice that combines stretching, deep acupressure and gentle rocking motions to enhance flexibility and improve energy flow. The Balinese method also applies stretching and acupressure, but adds reflexology and aromatherapy to release muscle tension, stimulate circulation and induce deep relaxation.

The use of both techniques, allied to my therapist’s experience, resulted in a tailor-made treatment that indeed helped me feel the tension melt away. It was not the most pleasant massage ever, but it was exactly what my body needed. After pulling, stretching, cracking and kneading, I was feeling fixed! Julie recommended more sessions to truly resolve this issue. The massage was supposed to last 60 minutes, but she asked if we could do 90 to achieve an optimal result, and I replied, ‘Oh, yeah’.

I must say that if you are looking for a massage that will improve your body’s function, Soul Revival is exactly what the name suggests – it gives your vibrancy back. Some massages leave you feeling sluggish when they end, but this one left me feeling lively, which was great. I had a business lunch with a colleague at AtTeatude afterwards, and this was the perfect feeling to carry on with my day.

Bespoke TAILORING

This month, we delve into the masculine universe in its feminine form with Max Mara’s AW2025 Sartoriale (Tailored Suit) capsule.

The Italian brand is well-known for its timeless creations and impeccable (quite unique) way of making tailoring a very feminine choice. Max Mara constructs a silhouette that rewrites the rules of men’s wardrobe staples, offering structures that celebrate and embrace women’s bodies.

When Max Mara launched its Tailored Suit project 11 years ago, it introduced a collection of classic, high-quality suits for women, inspired by traditional men’s tailoring techniques. The jacket was an overlooked element, seen as secondary to other style solutions. But the brand sees this piece as a travel companion and an instrument of self-affirmation. The goal of this project was to translate an icon of menswear into a jacket whose cut, proportions and finish easily adapt to feminine curves. It is a laborious job; it takes 345 minutes of work to make a Tailored Suit jacket, twice that of a standard style. The refined fabrics, the canvas on the inside, the 130 hand-sewn stitches on the armhole and the careful pressing make it unique in the natural way it moulds to the various female physiques. For Autumn and Winter 2025, the jacket comes in double- and single-breasted versions. The silhouettes play with constructed/deconstructed contrasts, where more formal double-breasted and semi- or fully-lined versions alternate with a softer, canvassed structure that resemble a lightweight shirt. Then there is the double-breasted jacket with elongated lapels and the velvet tuxedo version. On the single-breasted front, the ultra-feminine, three-button jacket is back with an accentuated waist. There is also a lightweight, two-button version in flowing fabric, as well as a menswearinspired version with longer proportions. The materials range from light, pure-cashmere melange to smooth velvet and ultra-light pure wools, plus the must-have pure-camel drap, the new slubbed melange wool, the Shetland effect that blends refined materials such as alpaca, cashmere, camel hair and yak, and finally, the yarn-dyed pinstriped and checked patterns. As for the colours, traditional shades such as ivory, black, kasha (golden brown), camel, grey and navy blue are accompanied by nude, denim blue that fades into light blue, loden green, brown and gold. A capsule made for women who travel, work, speak up, explore, listen and invent –mothers, sisters and daughters.

Swiss DNA, QATARI Flair

Another hospitality landmark is opening in the country: Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers Doha. The new address combines Alpine precision with Arabic heritage.

Doha’s skyline is getting a new addition: the Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers. Using the sleekness of steel, the clarity of glass and inspiration from honeybees’ masterful creations, the building exudes a bold architecture that fuses elegance with purposeful sustainability.

Set to open on the Corniche, it redefines what a hotel can be, offering a living hive of hospitality and harmony where form, function and philosophy coexist seamlessly. From the beehive-inspired motifs to the locally sourced materials and interiors infused with the resilience of Qatar’s Sidr tree, the design narrative is unmistakable: this is a space that nurtures, uplifts and connects.

GLEAMING FRAME

The hotel’s honeycomb façade calls attention to its stylistic architecture that pays tribute to Qatar’s historic bond with bees. Each interlocking hexagon modulates light, creates natural ventilation and casts dynamic shadows, a nod to the desert’s sun and celebration of resilience. In a cityscape with daring silhouettes, Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers Doha stands out for its unique design.

CORDIAL CORE

The tower embodies Qatari values of warmth and generosity. By day, light filters softly through its patterned anatomy; by night, the building glows like a lantern along the Corniche. Inspired by the strength of the Sidr tree, a symbol of adaptability and healing, the interiors prioritise comfort, privacy and a deep sense of welcome. Inside, timeless Swiss craftsmanship merges with mindful innovation, expressed in durable local materials, sustainable finishes and energy-efficient systems.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS

Just as bees design their hives to regulate temperature and airflow, the building’s shell minimises heat gain, reducing the need for air conditioning and lowering energy consumption. A practice that echoes the desert’s wisdom of wind towers. It’s a reminder that some of the most advanced solutions are those inspired by nature or ancient knowledge.

VALUES AND ORIGINALITY

Swissôtel Corniche Park Towers proves that innovation walks hand in hand with tradition. Its beehive form honours a nomadic respect for the desert’s natural aspect, with its contemporary cylindrical profile pointing confidently to the future. A hive born of the desert, marrying heritage with a futuristic vision. An address showcasing an impressive architectural design, based on biomimicry (a structure modelled on biological entities and processes), sustainability and cultural storytelling.

EXPLORING QATAR’S

GOLDEN WEST COAST

This untouched part of the country is home to the first Our Habitas property in the peninsula. Fernanda Langhammer and her family headed there to experience the brand’s ‘luxury for the soul’ concept, which she happily embraced.

When I previously thought of the word nature, for some reason, a lot of greenery would pop into my head. However, after visiting Our Habitas Ras Abrouq, I learned that a natural environment can be so much more. Located on the Arabian Gulf at the edge of the UNESCO-protected Al-Reem Biosphere reserve, I explored another type of nature, one that involves the beauty of the desert – golden sand, limestone formations meeting calm and transparent waters, kissed by the most amazing sunsets I have ever witnessed in my life. Nature lives there in a majestic form. Just like every place offering a unique experience, you have to go on a little drive to get there. For me, leaving the buzz of the city behind for a feeling of proper time off is worth every journey. About an hour’s drive from Doha, Our Habitas Ras Abrouq is a great escape for those looking for relaxation but also a touch of magic.

FEELING PART OF THE FAMILY

The hotel blends effortlessly with the beauty of Qatar’s West Coast. It looks as if it always belonged there. The low constructions are covered in tents, giving you the feeling of desert camping in the most luxe way possible. The 48 villas, ranging from one to four bedrooms, come with one or more private plunge pools and spacious outdoor decks. We were welcomed with big smiles and warmth by the team. We received a cold, refreshing towel and a drink and were escorted to the outside area facing the pool (one of the longest pools in the country) and the sea. In this scenario, Abhishikta entranced us in the Welcome Ritual where she invited us to be part of the Our Habitas family. She burned mastika for a moment of relaxation, letting the bad energy exit our bodies and minds. We received a bracelet bearing the hotel’s logo, imprinted on a wooden circle, with three arrows representing each of the owners and red straps in burgundy colour, the same as the Qatari flag. A gesture that made us feel really welcomed.

GLAMPING STYLE

The décor of the villas features soothing earthy tones, natural textures and local design elements, adding an elegant twist to the region’s cultural tapestry. The many carpets inside and outside, with their unique patterns, and Arabic baskets on the walls, give a sense of tradition, but at the same time add an edgy feel – a modern take on local customs.

Our one-bedroom Al Maha Villa had direct access to the beach, meaning uninterrupted views of the vast ocean. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had a freestanding tub, two sinks and a large shower that had access to the outdoor shower. The room had all the necessary amenities, with a living area with a sofa bed (by the way, the most comfortable sofa bed I have ever seen in a hotel anywhere in the world).

One aspect that I absolutely loved is that there is no TV anywhere – no unpleasant noises, just nature in its own grandeur. However, I have to say that the massive terrace outside, where the infinity plunge pool sits with refined furniture surrounding it, was my favourite aspect. A large rug and sofa with big clay pots seemed placed as if they had always been there. All colours match beautifully, creating no contrast with the scenery, just complementing the already stunning setup.

THINGS TO DO

We could have stayed in our villa the whole time; that wouldn’t have been a bad decision, however, there are many activities to join. One of the first things we did when we arrived was to request some bikes to move around the property and explore its spaces.

We also visited the watersports area and went kayaking, which was extremely enjoyable. The water is super calm and the transparent vessel made the trip even more fun.

The gym is filled with Technogym equipment, and the view you have when using the treadmill is breathtaking. Every day, we would receive a daily programme that offered yoga, singing bowls, a karak tea workshop and the unmissable sunset safari to Richard Serra’s East West monument. We joined the latter, and it was an experience we will cherish for the rest of our lives.

The Our Habitas Spa offers an array of treatments. The brand motto is to strengthen the connection to those around us and, to do so, we first need to reconnect with ourselves. I had the opportunity to embark on the Zekreet Oasis Experience, which included a Vibroacoustic Massage for cellular regeneration and an express facial using organic and locally sourced Torba products. The 60-minute massage involves a seven-colour crystal mat that combines the frequency of PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) infrared light, a technology that recharges your cells through whole-body exposure. It promotes detoxification, enhances blood circulation, stimulates cell metabolism and reduces inflammation. Lower frequencies relax larger muscles, while higher frequencies revitalise smaller ones, delivering a holistic experience that promotes both physical ease and mental well-being. The 30-minute facial was rejuvenating and used cool tools and red, blue and green light to reduce fine lines. It was a comprehensive treatment, and my therapist, Geeta, knew exactly what she was doing to deliver a tailored experience. I felt refreshed with my mental and physical well-being cared for.

NOURISHING FROM INSIDE

The culinary experience was a chapter apart. I have to confess that I am a foodie and good food brings me happiness. Qissa is the main restaurant; its décor blends Bedouin vibes with elegant furnishing. We had all our meals there. The breakfast offers a wide selection, but you can also order specific items such as smoothies and eggs prepared to your taste.

Chef Luke Borg has recently joined the Our Habitas Ras Abrouq family. He is from Malta, but has worked in many different locations and brings his culinary talent to this piece of paradise. The menu is an interesting combination of Mediterranean staples married with an Arabic twist. Chef Luke seems to be extremely comfortable in this scenario, and his dishes were unforgettable. We tried a few recipes and some of them were spectacular, such as the Watermelon Salad made with roasted watermelon, feta cheese,

radish, mint, olives, red onion and yuzu vinaigrette – it was like eating summer – super refreshing. The different textures and sweet, savoury and tangy notes created an explosion on our taste buds. The Red Ceviche was another fresh pick, featuring confit prawns, red onion, cucumber, coriander, sweet potato, a creamy red pepper sauce, cashew and chilli, with an interesting twist: it was accompanied by papadum crisps. We believe the trick is also in the cut; everything was chopped into small pieces, creating the perfect bite. We also had a comforting Red Coconut Curry with prawns, delivering balanced flavours, and an outstanding grilled tenderloin accompanied by roasted potatoes (the best ones I have probably ever had in my life) in a bed of muhammara sauce and chimichurri. The meat was cooked to perfection and the sauces complemented the dish beautifully. If you want to eat a great meal and dine in a magical atmosphere, I highly recommend the drive from Doha just for that.

UNIQUE DETAILS

Our Habitas Ras Abrouq is beyond compare. The terrain to get to the property seems to come from a sci-fi movie. The limestone mesas (geological formations) give lunar vibes and a scenario that I have never experienced before.

The mule deer that live on the property give an extra charm to the place. They are harmless and come very close to say hello. You just have to be careful and not leave any food around because they are pretty cheeky. And last but not least, the sunsets – they are absolutely mesmerising. They are a reminder of how wonderful the universe is and how grateful we should be.

Thank you, Our Habitas, for respecting nature and creating such an extraordinary haven of peace and beauty.

Seychelles:

IF PARADISE HAD A NAME

Looking for a connection with nature, Fernanda Langhammer headed to this archipelago in the Indian Ocean to explore its beauty while staying at Constance Ephelia and Constance Lemuria.

If you read my pages every month, you already know this, but I will repeat myself: I love travelling. There are lots of people (really a lot of people) sharing the same passion I do. Exploring a new country, its architecture, cuisine and culture is something that excites me. I had never been to Seychelles before, and I was lucky enough to see it through my stays at Constance Ephelia and Constance Lemuria hotels –an experience that is worth sharing.

CONSTANCE EPHELIA - MAHÉ

The journey to this slice of bliss on Earth started at Constance Ephelia, located on the main island of Mahé. After a drive across the island, which allowed me to take in all the beauty of the scenery, we reached the hotel which is in a natural park occupying 120 hectares – it’s a huge resort filled with greenery, mangroves, white sand and azure waters.

As soon as we reached the property, smiley Tembi, the watchman, welcomed us with enthusiasm, wishing us a pleasant stay. By the hotel entrance, a big team was waiting for us and made sure our check in went smoothly, done in the sofa area of Zee Bar, perfectly aligning with the chilled atmosphere of the resort.

The Resting Nest

Constance Ephelia is composed of 313 rooms ranging from junior and senior suites to two- and three-bedroom villas, hillside villas and a presidential suite – all have either garden or sea views. My Junior Suite had the spectacular ocean a few steps away and was very spacious. It had a comfy bed full of pillows, a large sofa and a bathtub separating the room from the bathroom. Boasting all the necessary amenities, there was also plenty of space to store my belongings.

Leisure for All

The hotel’s position is privileged, the natural park sits at the end of the peninsula and the property is divided into North and South, offering two main beaches and a few private gems. The beautiful and blooming mangroves create a path between the two parts. A good way to roam around the property is to request one of the bikes available at the Fitness Centre.

The sea in the South area, where I stayed, was rough during my stay (it depends on the time of the year), while the North beach was very calm and great for swimming. The imposing mountains surrounding the water make this place quite magical, which made me feel at one with nature.

But Constance Ephelia offers much more than just dreamy beaches; it provides an array of activities, with hiking being my favourite of them all.

A 1.6km walk inside the forest to cross from South to North, a path up the mountain providing the most breathtaking views – a unique experience without leaving the hotel premises.

Constance Spa is another highlight. With 18 rooms shaped like little huts, the space is a haven of tranquillity and transports your mind to a place of calm. With a pool in the centre, yoga classes happening outdoors and privacy in each treatment room, this part of the property is a jewel in a lush tropical scenario.

I headed there for a classic massage to immerse myself in relaxation. My therapist, Ratna, understood the task and, instead of working on pressure points, she delivered a treatment that allowed me to enjoy a true state of restfulness. The wind outside, kissing the palm trees that eventually touched the natural roof of the hut, created a sound that made my mind drift away, absorbing the good energy of the moment. I highly recommend booking a spa treatment while travelling, it hits differently.

If you like water, there are eight pools spread across the property and two boathouses offering watersports gear on each side of the resort. You can choose from pedal boats, small sailing catamarans, kayaks and snorkelling gear. However, if you prefer land sports, you’ll find four tennis courts, padel and squash courts and a fully equipped gym to help you keep up your workout routine. If you travel there with your family, there is a kids’ club called Coconut Tribe, where even the loungers by the private pool for the little ones are sized accordingly.

Delectable Gastronomy

When you go to a beach resort, you don’t usually expect that food will be a key element and one that stands out. However, at Constance Hotels & Resorts, this matter is taken seriously and is offered with a wide selection of fine grapes. Constance Ephelia has seven eateries: Corossol (where the breakfast is served, but where you also find a selection of international dishes), Helios (Mediterranean cuisine), Adam & Eve (with a Southeast Asian menu), Seselwa (to explore local Seychellois recipes), Cyann (for a fine-dining experience) and Zee and Kabana bars for a more relaxed atmosphere with small bites and creative drinks. Every outlet has at least one or two sommeliers helping elevate the dining experience. I had many memorable meals during my stay, but I will highlight some of my favourite ones. The Tom Yum soup at Adam & Eve was beautiful, not too thin, offering the perfect creaminess and coconut flavour, with prawns and shimeji mushrooms cooked to perfection. Still at the same restaurant, the cubed red snapper in a sticky, sweet and tangy sauce, with crispy edges and a soft interior, was simply divine, especially when paired with the smoked eggplant. At Seselwa, the dish that took me back home, Palm Heart Gratin, won my taste buds. Baked palm heart in bechamel sauce, topped with parmesan cheese, came bubbling and felt incredibly comforting. At Cyann, the prawn carpaccio, accompanied by sauces that represented the colours of the country’s flag, was almost too pretty to eat – fine dining at its best. Each eatery has its specialised chef delivering the best of each cuisine.

CONSTANCE LEMURIA - PRASLIN

To get to this property on the island of Praslin, we took a small plane, and in 15 minutes we reached our new destination. Constance Lemuria is a short drive from the airport and feels a bit more elegant and cosy, giving the impression that it was built in a way that makes it part of nature. Our arrival was received with grandeur; a gong played while we walked towards the massive doors of the hotel, opening right after the last gong sound disappeared. The vision behind the doors was stunning, the open reception, showcasing the infinity pool facing the ocean – an image that keeps replaying on my mind.

The Abode

My room at Lemuria was very similar to Ephelia, a Junior Suite with sea views. The room was brighter and the furnishings a bit more sophisticated. I loved that there was a window between the bathtub and the room, adding a touch of charm to the space. A clothesline on top of the tub was my favourite detail; many resorts forget to offer a solution to dry wet swimsuits. The double sink and spacious shower made it perfect.

Around the Property

One of the main attractions at Lemuria is its 18-hole championship golf course. I am not an expert in the sport (I am actually the opposite), but we were invited to try out the course with a patient instructor, Gary. He gave us some basic instructions and, in no time, we were hitting our balls with different clubs, understanding movements and lingo – a fun experience for beginners and a great setup for pros.

The sea in front of my room had slightly choppy waters; however, I went for a short swim on one of the mornings and it was splendid – nature is perfect! To best enjoy a proper swim, we headed to Anse Georgette, a beach world-renowned for its soft white sand, turquoise waters and lush green surroundings. I am a water enthusiast (I grew up swimming in the sea), so I stayed long hours catching waves and diving when they were too high – I felt like a kid again.

Outstanding Meals

With five restaurants and one bar, gastronomy is once again at the centre of the experience – to the delight of the foodie in me. Legend is the main restaurant, where a varied and delicious breakfast is served, offering stunning views. Located in a high area, the greenery and turquoise water bathed my eyes while my black coffee soothed my soul in the early hours of the day. Takamaka (yes, the name of the country’s famous liquor, but also the national

big highlight. The dinner was accompanied by entertainment featuring local songs played on percussion instruments, creating an atmosphere of vibrancy that made the meal one of the best of the entire trip. We tried a set menu called My Seychelles Story by Chef Jordi Villa. It was incredibly refreshing and paired very well with the climate. A coconut palm salad, served on a coconut shell, was spot on for me for its simplicity and smooth flavours. The Nest has an incredible location on top of a small hill, offering views of the sea and beach, as well as local cuisine. The seafood curry is a must-have! Last but not least, Diva is all about fine dining. The décor is funky with purple chandeliers resembling jellyfish and raffia chairs that recreate the turtles’ shells. Dinner was in the company of lovely Marie Noella, Lemuria’s Executive Assistant Manager, who told us all about Constance Hotels & Resorts. She’s been working with the company for 25 years, certainly a voice of experience and someone who understands the brand very well. To my surprise, the menu had my name on it, which was a caring touch that made me smile – a personalised souvenir. The entire selection was impeccable, but the Hokkaido scallops with Kampot pepper and verjus emulsion (a creamy buttery sauce made with verjus, a non-alcoholic juice of unripe grapes) was perfection in a bite. The crunchy top of the scallop, mixed with the sweetness of the mollusc and the saltiness of the jus, made it a star dish to my palate.

tree), is a barefoot dining space – eating with my feet deep in the soft sand was a

Sustainability Core

Both properties take the environment where they are located very seriously. At Ephelia, Markus is the sustainability manager and at Lemuria, Joseph. We enjoyed a nice talk with them and found out that Ephelia is home to seven species of mangroves and is certified as a Wetland of International Importance by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. An important certification that promotes conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. We walked around the property and learned about the bees making mangrove honey, spiders that create a balanced environment and even tried a germinated coconut that Markus promptly opened with the skill of a person who is wilderness-smart. In Lemuria, Joseph explained why they didn’t cut the bushes near the beach to give guests an open view of the sea. The reason? The vegetation in a hatching nest for turtles. They even have a special room by the sea with visual and written explanations about the turtles, where Robert, the turtle manager, sits.

Final Thoughts

Constance’s motto, True by Nature, says a lot; they not only celebrate the natural environment where the brand has its properties, but also the nature of its people. Everyone was extremely polite without losing their own personality. We got to explore the properties in the company of many of them, sharing their stories and helping to bring the brand’s vision to life. Big thanks to Galia, Anais, Hiru, Sheila, Didier, Vladimir, Mr Stephane, all the chefs, Sachin, John, Richard, Diane, Abir and everyone that made this memorable experience possible. I am grateful for your time and for creating memories that I will cherish and carry with me forever. I hope to see you again one of these days – I do plan to return to this magical Creole land.

Afternoon Delights with a PARISIAN TOUCH

Looking for a sophisticated pause, Sirine Errammach heads to Ledoux at Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay.

There is something timeless about the ritual of afternoon tea. The slow pour of hot leaves, the neat progression from savoury to sweet, the way conversation stretches as each bite is explored. It’s a pause, a small luxury in the middle of the day. That sense of tradition comes alive at Ledoux, the patisserie tucked on the mezzanine floor of the Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay. Walking in feels like stepping out of tempo. Marble veined in grey and cream catches the soft light, while geometric floors hold the room in symmetry. Scalloped glass tables shimmer, blush armchairs curve invitingly and at the far end, a pastry counter glows like jewellery in a boutique. Calm settles in, the city already feels far away, and the ritual begins the moment we take our seats. Our first decision? Tea.

We settle on the Ledoux Garden Signature Blend, fragrant with lemon, rose and lavender, like inhaling a spring garden. On the palate, it is soft, almost silken, the citrus notes keeping the florals alive. It’s the kind of tea that makes you slow down, sip after sip. Alongside it, the Organic Ginger Breeze jolts the senses: ginger warmth running down the throat, citrus sharp along the edges. One soothes, the other wakes us up, exactly the balance we were hoping for before the food is served. It’s in this harmony, gentle yet bracing, that Alessandra Banfi’s style comes through. Recently appointed Executive Pastry Chef at the Waldorf Astoria Doha West Bay, she brings with her a patchwork of influences: a Venezuelan childhood, Greek and Italian roots and years spent in Paris, New York and Dubai. Chocolate, florals, dates: her signature runs through every detail of the menu.

Ledoux is now her stage and she doesn’t hesitate to rewrite the script. Afternoon tea may traditionally begin with sandwiches, but here it opens with a surprise: a pre-dessert that quickly arrives at our table. In a small glass: a composition of goat cheese cremeux, honey, milk crumble and yoghurt sorbet. Cool, tangy, refreshing. Light and intriguing, it feels like a thoughtful overture before the main act.

Then comes the trolley, sleek, glass-fronted, rolled in with quiet ceremony, carrying the three-tiered stand. It looks less like a regular stand and more like a designer accessory – a metal handbag with shelves where sandwiches

and pastries sit in perfect alignment. There’s a childlike thrill in seeing it pull up to our table, as if we’re about to pick from a collection rather than a menu. Among the five savouries, two immediately catch our attention. The Tomato, Cheddar & Lettuce Multigrain Toast is a delight of balance: nutty bread with bite, tomato bursting with freshness, cheddar sharp enough to cut through and the lettuce lighting it all with crunch. Proof that even the most familiar flavours can shine when handled with care and precision. The Chicken, Apple & Cream Cheese Brown Toast leans the other way. Richer, deeper, but lifted by the sweetness of apple and the creaminess of cheese. Rounded, comforting, it’s the one we can’t resist returning to. The selection also includes three more bites: Cucumber, Labneh & Beetroot Chips, Spicy Tuna & Tobiko and an Egg-Mayo with Pickled Truffle Mushrooms.

The savouries set the stage, now the sweet takes over, bolder and more indulgent. One bite of the Valrhona Brownie with Caribbean Chocolate Cremeux is enough to stop the conversation mid-sentence: fudgy at the core, with that almost butter-soft melt only good chocolate can deliver. The kind we remember later in the day.

By contrast, the Date Cake tells a different story: local, warm, familiar. Paired with a smooth cream cheese and caramel sauce that lingers on the palate, it turns comfort into something polished. This is where the chef’s hand is clearest: she takes a flavour we think we know and makes us want to sit with it longer. The other treats were the Pistachio Sphere with Sicilian pistachio paste and kunafa, and Lemon Citrus made by layering passion fruit, lime and almond biscuit and the Rose Mousse Cake with raspberry confit and fresh berries.

And just when we think we’ve reached the end, there is still one more chapter to come: the scones. How could anyone claim an afternoon tea without them? It’s a good thing we left them for last. They are warm, twisted with vanilla and almond, with just the right crumb. Spread with clotted cream, strawberry or orange jams, they’re comforting and nostalgic. But it’s the pistachio cremeux that makes them unforgettable: silky, nutty, indulgent without excess – a detail, maybe, but one that stays with us. The afternoon tea set is available at Ledoux and Peacock Alley.

The Art of PERUVIAN CUISINE

With a vibrant blend of cultural influences, Peruvian dishes offer a refreshing culinary journey, and SD gets to experience what La Mar Doha has to offer.

Having lived in Doha for a few years, some restaurants consistently impress and even get better with every visit. La Mar Doha by Gastón Acurio is one of them. Located at the InterContinental Doha Beach & Spa, this stunning beachfront spot has long established itself as a brilliant venue since its inception.

Celebrity Chef Gastón Acurio is the proud ambassador of Peruvian cuisine, and he has excelled in bringing some of his bold but familiar flavours to our doorstep. If there’s one meal you have to try in this country, it has to be at La Mar. The celebrated journey through Peru, highlighting flavours that truly resonate with our foodie souls, is a must-have experience, whether you’re visiting or living here.

Chef Gastón’s vision may be to bring Peruvian flavours to the world, but Executive Chef Frank Ponce brings it to life in Doha. He is a man of many accolades. With a string of coveted awards under his belt, both for his restaurant and for himself, he is no stranger to acclaim.

Tonight, we’re here to check out a few new additions to the menu. Every visit brings about something fresh and unique.

All these musings are making us hungry and just in time, a generous portion of Plantain Chips arrives. These are addictive with a side of Avocado Mousse and Rocoto Mayonnaise (officially, our new favourite way to eat mayonnaise).

Shortly after, three cold appetisers hit the table. The Salmon Nigiri looks elegant and classy with Anticuchera Sauce. It’s melt-in-your-mouth delicious and created with such finesse.

The Conchitas are more playful, sitting inside a shell. The leche de tigre is smoked and brings about incredible notes along with a sharp tang.

And how can we dine in a Peruvian restaurant without a bowl of ceviche? The leche de tigre in this dish is elevated with saffron flavour. Sweet potato is usually the ‘Best Supporting Actor’ here, but La Mar has replaced it with torched avocado. The culinary artistry is hard to ignore – especially when it tastes so good. Add caviar and coriander on top of mixed seafood and you have a luxury dish right in front of you.

We are also treated to some hot appetisers – Croquettas with Smoked Beef and sriracha mayo, with grated chorizo on top, and Squid Ink Croquettas made with a squid ink bechamel. A side Chalaquita Salad with Rocoto Mayo beautifully complements the croquettas.

We’re lucky tonight – Chef Frank is in the mood to let us sample one of his New Year’s menu dishes. It’s Spanish octopus grilled on the Josper (a charcoal grill and oven combination) with celery root puree. Our jaws drop – what on Earth is a celery root puree and why would anyone venture into something like that? Celery has its place, and it’s not under a perfectly grilled octopus. Turns out not only are we terribly wrong, we are incredibly pleased. The flavours of the puree really surprise us – it’s light and earthy. It goes perfectly with the octopus marinated in thick honey and anticuchera. The Peruvian olives add a nice tang and the squid ink tuille adds a little crunch. Basil oil and chimichuri piquillo on top bring in all the celebration. We’re reserving our table for New Year’s at La Mar before we end this dinner.

Every week, Chef Frank whips up a special for mains. And this week’s is Prawns Saltado. A unique take on the traditional Lomo Saltado, this dish is an absolute stunner. The Prawns Saltado is a mix of comfort, decadence, flavour and uniqueness. The prawns are marinated in the typical saltado seasonings: oyster sauce, vinegar and spices. But what makes this dish really stand out is the spaghetti that sits below it, tossed in a Huancaina sauce. This traditional Peruvian sauce blends cheese, aji peppers, onions, garlic and more. Switching out the rice for this is a bold move – but one that properly pays off. We’re fans and since we’re on the topic of bold, we’re putting this dish right up there with La Mar’s famous chocolate cake (and truly the best in Doha).

The dessert is nothing short of a brilliant finale. A showstopping cacao bean arrives at the table. This is the dessert of all desserts. A massive bean, made with Ilanka (a north Peruvian dark chocolate), encases a medley of treats. Lucuma ice cream is the most noteworthy, sitting atop dark chocolate mousse and crunchy quinoa bits. Chef Frank knocks it open with a tiny but mighty hammer and we start digging in. Edible flowers add colour to the inside; the outside is already designed to look like a real cacao bean. It’s one of those desserts that pleases all the senses.

But that’s not all on the sweets side. We all know and love the quintessential Peruvian Chichamorada (a drink made from purple corn and seriously addictive), but we’ve never imagined this in sorbet form. It’s the perfect summer treat (in fact, we’re picturing these by the La Mar Beach Club poolside).

The service has been top-notch all night, with Chef Frank serving us himself on many occasions. The team behind the kitchen get applause for putting up an unforgettable menu.

There’s no debate that La Mar Doha is a mainstay in Qatar’s dining scene. It really doesn’t matter whether you appreciate the fine art of food or not, because every second of your experience will impress. We are leaving tummies full, souls satisfied and dreaming of our return visit. What a night. Now, let’s get that New Year’s reservation in.

STYLISH DRIVE

OHLALA GOT BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE PORSCHE PANAMERA MANUFACTURER EDITION, A LUXURY SALOON THAT EXUDES GOOD LOOKS AND PERFORMANCE.

They say you can’t have it all but the 2025 Porsche Panamera Manufacturer Edition certainly comes close.

Collecting the keys to this hand-finished, hyper-personalised machine, we expected Porsche refinement. What we didn’t expect was for it to charm us like a charismatic villain in a Bond film. From the moment we stood in its presence, we knew this wasn’t going to be just a drive, it was going to be a mind-altering experience.

STYLED TO STAND OUT

To call the Panamera handsome would be an understatement. In this Manufacturer Exclusive Edition, it’s more like haute couture on wheels. The SportDesign Package painted in stealthy black high-gloss reshapes the fascia and adds a sharper, more aggressive attitude. The Exclusive Design taillights and tinted HD Matrix LED headlights keep things distinctively Porsche but with an edge that’s all about craftsmanship. From the model designation in black to the side window trims and door handle inlays painted in body colour, the detailing is meticulous and undeniably bespoke.

The 21-inch Panamera Exclusive Design wheels, painted in black with highly polished surfaces, are both aggressive and elegant, like a tailored suit with racing gloves. Paired with Exclusive Design taillights and silver sports exhaust tailpipes, this car looks ready to launch even while parked at valet.

LUXURY UP CLOSE

Stepping inside, we were immediately greeted by a sensory hug of Barrique Club leather – soft, deep and unlike anything in the standard lineup. This isn’t just leather, it’s craftsmanship in tactile form.

The interior presented an effortless blend of German precision and Gulfstyle luxury – rich, detailed and built to impress. Thanks to the Matte Carbon Interior Package, every surface we touched, from the leather wrapped GT sports steering wheel, to the illuminated door sill guards, felt deliberate and indulgent. Even the air vent surrounds have been thoughtfully upgraded.

The overall cabin layout is driver-focussed, but not lacking character. To us, it felt more like a first-class cockpit, suited for everything from fast-track straights to downtown traffic.

We loved the Porsche crest on the headrests, a small but powerful reminder of the marque’s DNA, sitting right behind our perfectly positioned heads. The adaptive sports front seats are 18-way adjustable and offer the kind of support that says, “Take the long way home”.

"The interior presented an effortless blend of German precision and Gulf-style luxury – rich, detailed and built to impress."

EFFORTLESS INNOVATION

Whilst admiring the interior artistry, we noticed the Exclusive Edition model quietly flexing its tech muscles. The passenger display was a particular talking point, giving our designated co-pilot full command of media, navigation and much more.

The true showstopper? The Burmester 3D High-End Surround Sound System that wrapped us in audio so immersive, it was like having our own private symphony on four wheels. It felt like we were listening to our favourite driving anthems for the first time.

Of course, Porsche has equipped, as standard on all models, wireless smartphone integration, seamless connectivity, a head-up display and a central display that feels more like a top-of-the-range tablet than a dashboard.

PURE PORSCHE POWER

Porsche has added a layer of focussed urgency to the Exclusive Edition’s drive, by including the Sports Chrome Package. It has paired this with Porsche Active Suspension Management and adaptive air suspension and, let us tell you, the power and precision are almost unbelievable! We found the eight-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox as sharp as ever, responding with such finesse that we began to think it was reading our minds. Add the sports exhaust tailpipes into the equation and it sounds as fast as it feels, without ever being brash.

Despite revelling in the Panamera’s grand touring comfort, make no mistake, we found nothing soft about this car’s performance. It corners like it’s on rails and hit highway speeds with astonishing grace. Yet somehow, it never seemed to take any strain whatsoever. A truly otherworldly driving experience.

PEACE OF MIND

Performance may be Porsche’s love language, but it also speaks fluent safety. Lane Change Assist, Surround View Active Parking Support and soft-close doors all come as standard, making city driving feel less like a chore and more like a mini privilege.

More of a convenience than a safety feature is the 90-litre fuel tank that gives you range for days, even if those days include high-speed runs through open desert highways.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Now, don’t get us wrong, the standard 2025 Porsche Panamera is already a phenomenal car. With its sleek design, cutting-edge tech and signature Porsche performance, it easily holds its own in the upper echelons of the luxury saloon league. However, once you’ve experienced the Manufacturer Exclusive Edition, there’s simply no going back. It takes everything that’s great about the Panamera and elevates it into something far more personal, more indulgent and, frankly, more irresistible.

WHAT'S HAUTE?

Miss Ohlala brings to you this month’s wildest fashion and beauty moves.

Cowboy boots on the runway? Only Post Malone could make it happen. For his debut label, Austin Post, the rapper transformed Karl Lagerfeld’s former home into a Western haute couture showdown. Fringe, denim, leather and a model on horseback trotting through the salon. Forget merch, Post is officially riding his way into high fashion.

Maison Margiela, the house that famously avoids celebrity faces, has finally caved in and who better than Miley Cyrus to break the spell? The new campaign shows Miley draped in deconstruction and sheer drama, embodying the brand’s bold and experimental codes. It’s messy, it’s major and it’s definitely Margiela entering a new era.

Goodbye, Hollywood, Jaden Smith is packing his bags for Paris. Why? He has just been named men’s creative director at Christian Louboutin, where he’ll be in charge of shoes, leather goods and accessories. His first collection is set for Men’s Autumn and Winter 2026 Paris Fashion Week, and judging from his past looks, expect nothing short of wild.

Every brand is dipping into beauty these days, and Dyson isn’t missing out. After vacuums and hair tools, they’ve launched a new hair oil (part of the Omega range) that is lightweight, silicone-free and powered by sunflower oil grown on Dyson’s own farms. A leave-in spray joins the lineup, positioning the brand as a beauty expert, as well.
