A Quiet Happy New Year
“
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.” Oscar Wilde
J
anuary has never really been my month for resolutions. I’ve tried, like everyone else, but they usually come with more pressure than clarity. Lists, rules, promises to a future version of myself I’m not even sure I want to become. So over time, I stopped forcing it. What’s funny is that some of the biggest changes in my life didn’t start in January at all. Five months ago, I
moved to Qatar and joined fact. Not driven by a New Year’s resolution, but by timing and instinct. And it reminded me that meaningful shifts rarely announce themselves with fireworks. You’ll feel that thread running through our cover story. Wellness today isn’t about discipline or performance anymore, and it’s certainly not about punishment disguised as self-care. It’s about learning to live with yourself a little better. Making space. Letting go of guilt. Building small habits that support you instead of controlling you. In these pages, we share simple, realistic practices designed to work with you, not to optimise your life, but to help it flow more easily. January also brings a renewed curiosity about what’s happening around us. We’ve selected a handful of moments we’re genuinely excited about, from Ludovico Einaudi’s live concert at Katara to desert escapes in Brouq and Sealine, perfect to enjoy the quieter pace and mild winter weather. Food, for me, is still one of the easiest ways to slow down. This month, I spent time at Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas and returned to Cecconi’s. As always, when the clock strikes midnight on December 31, the one thing I always wish for myself, and for everyone, is a year filled with health and travel. Not rushed trips or packed itineraries, but journeys chosen with intention. If you’re still wondering where to head next, our travel pages offer inspiration that leans toward slower, more personal experiences, a reminder that sometimes the best journeys are the ones that allow us to step away from the noise and reconnect with ourselves. Wherever this year takes you, I hope it feels gentle, intentional and deeply yours.

Qatar’s desert is about to get a serious injection of noise, dust and adrenaline! On January 9 and 10, Monster Jam rolls into Sealine Season, transforming the sands into a playground for one of the world’s most spectacular live motorsport experiences. If you’ve never seen it live, Monster Jam is all about scale, power and precision. The show features giant, custom-built trucks towering over 10 feet high, each packing 1,500 horsepower, battling it out on specially designed dirt tracks. Expect flying jumps, razor-sharp manoeuvres and head-to-head racing that keeps the crowd on its feet, all within a format that stays firmly family-friendly. The event is brought to Qatar by Proactiv Entertainment in partnership with Feld Motor Sports, the global force behind Monster Jam’s international tours. Its arrival adds a new layer to Sealine Season, which continues this winter with its mix of curated desert weekends, live entertainment and premium hospitality experiences. For those who want a closer look, the Monster Jam Pit Party takes place before the main show, giving fans the chance to step onto the track, see the trucks up close and meet the drivers. The action will take place at Sealine Qatar Racing Club – Mawater. Entry requires both a standard event ticket and a Pit Party Pass. ✤

and breeze make it the ideal moment to trade the city for wideopen dunes. This year, Sealine Season leans fully into that mood, transforming the edge of the desert into a hub of open-air events with the sea never too far from sight. At the high-energy end of the spectrum, Monster Jam rolls into the Mawater Sealine Circuit Sports Club on January 9 and 10. Expect oversized trucks, roaring engines and full-throttle action as the world-famous machines battle it out in races, freestyle stunts and skills challenges. As the sun sets, Sealine Nights takes over with a series of desert concerts designed for cooler evenings and open skies. On January 16, Moudi Al Shamrani and Sultan Khalifa bring strong regional sounds to the dunes, pairing live performances with fireworks that light up the night. A week later, on January 23, Khaled Abdulrahman delivers a warmer, more intimate atmosphere, built around signature melodies and a slower desert rhythm. The month wraps up on January 30 with Samri Night, a themed evening celebrating traditional rhythms, live performances and a steadily building ambience that carries guests through the night, fireworks included. Add desert safaris, dune bashing, horse rides along the beach and high-speed buggy or quad sessions, and Sealine starts to look like the most fun winter escape around. ✤

TURNING THE VOLUME UP EINAUDI, UNDER THE STARS One of the most influential composers of our time is heading to Qatar this January for a rare open-air performance at Katara Amphitheatre.
The region’s most electrifying music event is back on January 30 at Stadium 974, with global EDM heavyweights, cutting-edge electronic sounds and a night designed to hit hard.
As Doha steps into 2026 in full cultural swing, one night is already shaping up to be unmissable. On January 9, Italian composer and piano icon Ludovico Einaudi will land at the stunning Katara Amphitheatre for a one-night-only live performance presented by Visit Qatar, and it’s set to be pure magic. Over the past 30 years, Einaudi has done something rare: he’s made contemporary classical music cool, emotional and wildly popular. Classically trained in Milan yet radically modern in approach, he broke the rules by stripping music back to its raw essence. Think hypnotic piano loops, slow-building intensity and melodies that stay with you long after the final note fades. You’ve heard his music even if you don’t realise it. His albums Le Onde, Divenire and In a Time Lapse became global cult favourites, while his soundtracks elevated films like The Intouchables and Nomadland into emotional masterpieces. Today, he's the moststreamed classical artist in the world. At 8pm, Katara’s open-air amphitheatre will turn into a moonlit soundscape: intimate, atmospheric and deeply cinematic. For anyone looking to begin the year on a powerful emotional note, this is one concert not to sleep on. Tickets start at QR300. ✤
January in Doha is officially stacked. Major sporting fixtures, cultural highlights, outdoor celebrations… The calendar barely leaves room to breathe, and right at the heart of it sits the highly anticipated return of the 25N51E Music Festival. Set against the striking backdrop of Stadium 974, the festival brings together world-class production, an open-air seaside setting and a lineup built to keep you moving until late. The 25E Main Stage is built for peak-time energy. International heavyweights Calvin Harris, Alesso and Afrojack headline with explosive sets designed for massive crowds: big drops, instantly recognisable anthems and visuals engineered for stadium-sized moments. This is EDM at its most unapologetic and high-impact and the kind of night you feel in your chest before you even process it. Switch gears at the 51N Stage, where the atmosphere turns deeper and more immersive. NTO and Ben Böhmer deliver melodic, emotionally driven performances that sit somewhere between club culture and live electronic concert, perfect for getting lost in sound. Named after Qatar’s geographic coordinates, 25° North and 51° East and backed by Visit Qatar, the festival has become a marker of the country’s growing presence on the global music circuit. More artist announcements are on the way, and tickets are already live. ✤

FAST CARS, BIG ENERGY A NEW YEAR FEAST Fireworks, global bites and feel-good vibes: Doha’s biggest foodie playground is back this January and it’s shaping up to be unmissable.
Global car culture meets live racing and music as FuelFest makes its Qatar debut, launching its 2026 World Tour with a full-scale automotive takeover in Doha.
New Year, new plans, and if you’re looking for the perfect way to kick-off 2026, clear your evenings for the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF). Running from January 14 to 24 at the 974 Stadium precinct, the city’s favourite winter festival, launched by Visit Qatar, returns with bigger flavours, brighter nights and something for everyone, making it the ultimate after-work and weekend hangout. Things get underway in style on January 14 with an opening ceremony packed with live performances, a themed spectacle and fireworks that officially set the table for 10 days of indulgence. Once inside, it’s all about eating your way around the world. Expect buzzing food districts lined with kiosks from restaurants and cafés serving everything from Arabian comfort food and Asian crowd-pleasers to Mediterranean favourites, global street food and elevated fine dining. Come hungry, very hungry: this is not the place for small bites or restraint! Food may be the star, but the entertainment keeps the night going. Stick around for paramotor fireworks, jaw-dropping drone shows, live entertainment and open-air movie screenings. Families will also want to bookmark QIFF Juniors for kids’ workshops and creative fun, while the QIFF Ring brings playful challenges with tasty rewards. Free to enter and easy to love, QIFF is your go-to January plan, Doha-style! ✤
Doha’s events calendar is about to get a serious injection of horsepower. In 2026, FuelFest arrives in Qatar for the first time, with the city selected as the opening stop of the festival’s global world tour. Taking place at Katara South Parking on January 23, the day will bring global car culture straight onto one of the region’s most iconic racing venues. For car enthusiasts, culture fans and anyone drawn to high-energy live experiences, this one lands squarely in must-see territory. Founded by Cody Walker and inspired by the Fast & Furious legacy, FuelFest goes far beyond a traditional car show. The event blends rare automotive displays with live action, music and street culture, creating a one-day experience that moves constantly between track, stage and crowd. Expect a world-class lineup of supercars, muscle cars and movie-famous vehicles, alongside live drift battles and racing that keep engines running all day long. Set to deliver an unforgettable experience, FuelFest Qatar will feature a star-studded lineup, including appearances by Fast & Furious cast members Tyrese Gibson and Jason Statham, followed by a live performance by DJ Infamous and will culminate in an unprecedented double-headliner concert featuring global music icons Ludacris and Busta Rhymes. Throw in celebrity appearances, interactive brand zones, street art installations and food concepts, and the result feels less like a single-format event and more like a full-scale cultural takeover. ✤

FROM BASEL TO DOHA This winter marks a major shift for the region’s art scene as Art Basel launches its first-ever edition in Qatar, adding a major new chapter to the country’s cultural calendar. regional art scene. Hosted in Msheireb Downtown Doha, the inaugural edition places Qatar firmly on the international Art Basel map, alongside Basel, Paris, Hong Kong and Miami Beach. This first edition brings together 87 galleries and 84 artist presentations from 31 countries and territories, with a strong presence from across the MENASA region alongside internationally recognised names. For collectors, curators and art professionals, it delivers the structure and calibre expected from the Art Basel brand, right here in Doha. What makes this arrival particularly visible is where it unfolds. Rather than being confined to a single venue, Art Basel Qatar is set across Msheireb Downtown, with M7 Doha and the Doha Design District anchoring the programme. Galleries, installations and performances extend into public spaces, turning the neighbourhood into an active part of the fair rather than just a backdrop. The edition is shaped around the theme ‘Becoming’, a framework that runs across both gallery presentations and public projects, reflecting ideas of transformation, identity and change. Presented with Visit Qatar as the fair’s Lead Partner, Art Basel Qatar positions Doha as a new destination on the global contemporary art circuit. ✤

One of the most respected épée competitions on the international circuit is back this winter, with the Doha Fencing Grand Prix 2026 taking over Aspire Dome from January 23 to 25. Part of the official Fédération Internationale d’Escrime World Circuit, the event brings together more than 400 topranked athletes from over 50 countries, including world champions and Olympic medallists, all competing for crucial ranking points. The level is high, the margins are tight and every bout matters. What makes fencing especially engaging to watch live is the proximity. You’re close enough to follow the footwork, spot the feints and feel how quickly a match can turn. Épée is a game of patience and precision, where long moments of control can suddenly explode into action and one touch can decide everything. Doha is no stranger to top-level fencing. The city has hosted the Fencing Grand Prix since 2005, building a solid reputation on the global circuit. At Aspire Dome, the indoor setting and clear sightlines make it easy to stay focused on the action. For anyone looking to experience a different side of the winter calendar, this is sport stripped back to its essentials: sharp, focused and unexpectedly gripping. ✤

IRONMAN IS COMING
A BIG CULTURAL YEAR
Qatar is officially stepping onto the global triathlon map as the country is set to host its very first IRONMAN 70.3 in early 2027.
Fresh off the close of Qatar–Argentina and Chile 2025, the Years of Culture (YoC) initiative reveals its 2026 partner countries and the timing couldn’t be more symbolic.
Doha is no stranger to big sporting moments, but this one hits differently. In 2027, the city will host its first-ever Visit Qatar IRONMAN 70.3 Doha, reinforcing its position on the global triathlon circuit after hosting the T100 Triathlon World Tour. Endurance athletes see this as a new point on the map. For Qatar, it’s another sign of how sport here keeps evolving beyond stadiums and grandstands. An IRONMAN 70.3 is a test of balance and endurance as much as power: a sea swim, a fast bike leg and a city-based run, all designed to push athletes while keeping the experience immersive. In Doha, that means open water, wide roads, clean lines and a skyline that never really leaves your peripheral vision. The timing also makes sense. Across the Gulf, endurance sport has been gaining serious momentum, with races in Bahrain, Oman and the UAE drawing athletes from Europe, Asia and North America. Add to that the global appetite for early-season races (many 70.3 events sell out months in advance) and Doha’s arrival feels less like a surprise and more like the next logical step. Expect a different kind of spectacle: quieter than a football final, tougher than it looks, and built around personal limits rather than scorelines. ✤
If there’s one thing Qatar does well, it’s turning culture into a fullscale experience and 2026 is already looking busy. As the Qatar– Argentina and Chile Year of Culture bows out, the spotlight shifts north and south with Canada and Mexico stepping in as the next partner countries for the YoC programme. The timing feels anything but random. With Canada and Mexico gearing up to co-host the FIFA World Cup 26, the connection brings things full circle. It was football, after all, that sparked the creation of YoC back when Qatar won the World Cup hosting bid. In 2026, that same global energy feeds into art, design, music, education and creative dialogue, on and off the pitch. Throughout the year, audiences in Qatar can expect a packed calendar filled with exhibitions, pop-up events, performances, film screenings, talks and collaborative projects rolling out across Doha and beyond. Think fresh perspectives, bold aesthetics and a mix of established and emerging voices from both countries, all woven into Qatar’s cultural landscape. The programme will also include legacy projects from Year of Culture Qatar–USA 2021, pushing existing cultural ties into a wider continental dialogue built for the long term. ✤

CLEANING THE INSIDE
EATING TO CALM, NOT TO PUNISH
We're finally admitting it: the mind gets saturated just as easily as a phone memory. Thoughts accumulate, to-do lists grow, emotional residue builds up… And if nothing is done, everything slows down. Mental decluttering is about keeping the mind functional, light and efficient. Journalling has become one of the most common tools for this internal clean-up. Not the aesthetic kind made for social media, but private writing. The kind you do at night to unload the day: what stayed stuck in your head, what bothered you, what went well, what you don’t want to carry into tomorrow. The page becomes a space where the nervous system finally exhales. For many, this simple habit transforms sleep. Instead of replaying the day in loops, the mind settles faster. Emotions feel processed rather than trapped. Anxiety decreases not because life is easier, but because the inside is no longer overcrowded. Mental decluttering also happens through evening boundaries. Choosing not to scroll endlessly. Choosing silence over stimulation. Choosing one conversation instead of 10 notifications. It doesn’t mean cutting off the world, it means controlling what gets inside. Even during the day, micro-decluttering moments make a difference: clearing your workspace, taking five quiet minutes between two intense tasks, closing the eyes and breathing instead of consuming more content… These pauses prevent overload before it settles. Lifestyle Tips: Try the 1-3-5 method (handle one big, three medium and five small tasks daily), spend time outdoors, keep a gratitude log.
The new wellness obsession this year? Fighting inflammation. The silent fire behind fatigue, bloating, skin issues, joint pain, brain fog, hormone disruption and accelerated ageing. And the most powerful tool to lower it sits on your plate. An anti-inflammatory lifestyle starts with how you build your meals, not with what you forbid. Instead of thinking in terms of restriction, you think in terms of support. You eat to stabilise energy, not spike it. Your plate becomes colourful, not because it’s pretty, but because plants, polyphenols and antioxidants are antiinflammatory by nature. Leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, berries, citrus, herbs and spices appear everywhere. Curcuma, ginger, cinnamon and garlic become daily staples. Olive oil replaces industrial fats. Nuts and seeds add both texture and metabolic stability. Protein is eaten for muscle but also becomes a blood sugar stabiliser. Eggs, fish, legumes and clean meats prevent glucose spikes that trigger inflammatory cascades in the body. Carbohydrates are not excluded, but reframed. They come from whole foods (oats, quinoa, sweet potatoes, fruits) and rarely in isolation. Ultra-processed foods quietly exit the routine. Not through radical bans, but through loss of appeal. Once you feel the difference (calmer digestion, steadier mood, clearer skin, fewer cravings), the body stops craving what inflames it. The change shows up fast in daily life: mornings are no longer foggy, afternoon energy doesn't collapse, bloating fades, skin settles, joint stiffness softens... Even emotional reactivity becomes less intense because inflammation feeds stress responses. Lifestyle Tips: Try a Mediterranean diet, read food labels for hidden sugars, swap frying or grilling with baking and steaming.

EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE You take around 20,000 breaths a day, and you barely notice any of them until stress takes over. In 2026, breathing becomes intentional. Not limited to yoga or meditation anymore, it’s now a real performance tool in everyday life: to calm down, focus, recover and reset. Before a presentation, you slow your breath to steady your voice. Before a workout, you sharpen it to boost focus. After an argument, you deepen it to release tension. At night, you soften it to prepare for sleep. Different rhythms, different effects. Slow breathing tells the body that it is safe. Faster breathing can energise you when fatigue hits. Deep breathing releases physical and emotional tension stored in the chest and the belly. What makes breath so powerful is also its immediacy. You don’t need equipment, space or silence. You can use it anywhere, at your desk, in a taxi, in the elevator. No one sees it, but your nervous system responds instantly. Lifestyle Tips: Try the 4-7-8 breathing method (inhale through the nose for a count of four, hold for seven and exhale through the mouth for eight counts), practice deep, diaphragmatic breathing for at least five minutes (two or three times daily), be consistent.
FROM CORRECTION TO RECOVERY In 2026, beauty doesn't try to ‘fix’ the body. It supports it. After years of aggressive treatments, over-exfoliation and miracle promises, a new philosophy has taken over: regenerative beauty. For the face, the focus has shifted toward protecting the skin barrier and supporting its natural renewal instead of constantly stripping it. Skincare routines are now built around hydration, calming active ingredients, anti-inflammatory textures and 26

protection against environmental stress. The goal is not to transform your skin overnight, but to keep it healthy, resistant and luminous over time. People are paying closer attention to how their skin reacts, not just how it looks. Redness, tightness, breakouts and sensitivity are no longer ignored, they're treated as signs of imbalance. Products are layered more carefully. Less friction. Fewer actives at once. More patience. For the body, regeneration has become just as important as aesthetics. Lymphatic drainage, fascia release, sculpting massages and circulation-boosting treatments are now central to wellness routines. Not to ‘reshape’ the body violently, but to help it eliminate waste, release tension and restore proper fluid movement. After long hours sitting, flying, training or standing, the body accumulates stagnation. These regenerative practices help it breathe again. Legs feel lighter, the belly relaxes, the back releases. The skin looks fresher not because it is stretched, but because it is better irrigated. Non-invasive technologies also fit into this logic. Instead of burning, freezing or traumatising tissues, they aim to stimulate natural processes: collagen production, cellular turnover, microcirculation. The approach is supportive, not corrective. In daily life, regeneration also passes through the obvious: hydration, sleep, movement, nutrition. No treatment can compensate for dehydration, exhaustion or chronic inflammation. energy, focus, moods and physical strength are not supposed to be the same every single day. For years, women were taught to push with the same intensity, follow the same routine, train the same way, eat the same way and work at the same pace, every day of the month. When energy dropped, the reflex was willpower. When motivation disappeared, the answer was discipline. Cycle syncing changes that narrative completely. It’s based on one simple idea: the body doesn’t run in a straight line. It runs on fluctuations. And instead of fighting them, you can work with them. Some days, you wake up sharp, focussed, motivated, ready to train hard, take decisions, socialise and perform. Other days, everything feels slower. Concentration drifts. The body feels heavier. The need for rest, silence and comfort becomes stronger. Instead of labelling those days as ‘unproductive’, cycle syncing treats them as part of a normal internal rhythm. In daily life, this changes how you organise your time. Highenergy days become ideal for intense workouts, challenging meetings, deep focus and social plans. Lower-energy days become perfect for slower training, mobility work, administrative tasks, recovery sessions and early nights. You stop forcing your body to perform on days it’s wired for regeneration. Food adapts as well. Some phases naturally come with stronger appetite, others with lighter hunger. Cravings fluctuate. Digestion shifts. Instead of controlling it aggressively, you learn to anticipate it: more grounding meals when energy dips, lighter, fresher food when alertness returns. Even mental focus follows this rhythm. There are days for brainstorming, creation and fast thinking. And days for reflection, organisation and consolidation. 28

When you stop expecting the same cognitive output every day, stress drops instantly. This approach also deeply changes the relationship with guilt. Rest stops being a failure, slower days stop feeling wasted. You no longer interpret fatigue as weakness, you read it as a signal. It's not about planning your life to perfection. It’s about understanding your internal timing well enough to stop fighting it. Potential Benefits: Reduces PMS symptoms (cramps, bloating, etc.), improves hormonal balance, boosts mood and energy levels.
A NEW CHAPTER FOR THE BODY In 2026, menopause wellness has stepped fully into the lifestyle conversation. Not as a taboo topic or a niche health issue, but as a real-life transition many women are navigating right now. Openly. Actively. And with far less silence than before. For a long time, women were expected to ‘push through’ menopause. To accept fatigue, sleep disruption, weight changes, mood swings, brain fog or joint discomfort as something to endure quietly. These signals were often minimised, brushed aside or left unexplained. Today, that mindset is finally being challenged. Menopause is no longer framed as a loss of control, but as a phase of adjustment, one that deserves information, tools and smarter habits. Menopause wellness isn’t about going backwards or trying to recreate a pre-menopausal body. It’s about understanding what’s changing and responding differently. Energy doesn’t behave the same way anymore. Recovery takes more intention. Stress can feel louder. Instead of fighting these shifts, the focus is on adapting to them.

Movement becomes more strategic. Strength training takes centre stage, not for aesthetics, but to support muscle mass, posture and bone density. Low-impact cardio, walking and mobility help keep joints fluid and circulation active without pushing the body into exhaustion. Training stops being about intensity at all costs and starts being about long-term support. Nutrition follows the same logic. Blood sugar stability, sufficient protein and anti-inflammatory foods are foundations. Not restrictive rules, but practical tools for steadier energy, clearer focus and better overall balance. Most importantly, menopause wellness reshuffles priorities. Rest becomes non-negotiable. Boundaries matter more. Recovery is planned, not postponed. The focus shifts away from appearance and toward autonomy: feeling comfortable in your body, trusting its signals and building habits that actually work for this new phase of life. Lifestyle Tips: Be kind to yourself, don’t fight the changes but do get medical help to deal with them. Join online communities to find others in the same boat.
ONE WORKOUT, EVERY BENEFIT Nobody really has time for five different workouts a week anymore, and one-dimensional training no longer fits the way we live. That’s why hybrid training has taken over the fitness world. Hybrid workouts mix everything in one intelligent flow: strength, cardio, balance, mobility and breath. You might start on the mat, waking up your joints with controlled movement. Then you pick up weights for strength work. A few minutes later, your heart rate rises with low-impact cardio sequences. The 30

session ends with core control, deep stretching and breathing to reset the nervous system. The beauty of hybrid training is that it mirrors real life. In one single day, you bend, lift, carry, twist, walk fast, slow down, change direction. Hybrid workouts prepare your body for all of it, not for one movement pattern only. The benefit is immediate. Your body stops feeling stiff in some areas and overloaded in others. You feel more coordinated. More agile. Less fragile. You don’t wake up sore in the ‘bad way’. And perhaps most importantly, you don’t get bored. Every session feels different, stimulating, alive. Find It Here: F45 Training, Stage Hybrid Studio, The Zone
MOVING WITHOUT MAKING IT A BIG DEAL Have you ever heard of ‘exercise snacking’? Although the name may suggest otherwise, it has nothing to do with food. It’s about breaking one of the most damaging patterns of modern life: long hours of physical stillness, followed by short bursts of intense activity. The body was never designed to sit all day and then suddenly perform. And this year, that model is finally being questioned. Exercise snacking consists of dividing your usual exercise routine into short workouts lasting around 10 to 15 minutes. Instead of one long session, movement is distributed across the day in compact bursts that are easier to fit into a busy schedule. These mini sessions are designed to be efficient and targeted. They can focus on strength, cardio or mobility, and often isolate specific muscle groups. A short leg workout in the morning, core exercises during a lunch break or mobility work in the evening… Each session is brief, but intentional. What makes it appealing is its flexibility. It adapts to real life.

Whether at home, at the office or wherever movement is possible, these short workouts remove the constraints often associated with traditional training: time blocks, equipment, changing clothes or finding motivation for a full hour. Rather than eliminating structured workouts, exercise snacking rethinks how they are distributed. The body still works, just in smaller, more manageable doses that fit naturally into the rhythm of the day. And don’t be fooled: just because you’re not killing yourself at the gym doesn’t mean your body isn’t working. Movement doesn’t only count when it looks intense or exhausting. This is where Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis (NEAT) comes into play. It describes all the energy the body expends outside of formal workouts: walking, standing, stretching, carrying, cleaning, gardening, changing posture, climbing stairs… All the movements that don’t look like exercise, but keep the body active throughout the day. For years, these everyday actions were largely ignored in favour of structured training sessions. Now they’re being revalued. Not as a replacement for workouts, but as a foundation. By multiplying small moments of movement, the body avoids long periods of inertia and stays metabolically engaged. A constant, low-level of activity that supports circulation, blood sugar regulation and joint health. Lifestyle Tips: Consult a fitness professional to make sure your movements are correct, then build short bursts of activity into your daily routine. 32

TRAINING FOR THE BODY YOU’LL HAVE IN 20 YEARS The question is no longer ‘How hard can I train?’ It’s ‘How long will my body still feel good if I keep moving like this?’ Training for longevity is not about performance goals, transformations or aesthetic pressure. It’s about staying mobile, pain-free, upright and confident in your body for as many years as possible and that changes everything about the way you move. You don't train to destroy yourself once and recover for three days anymore. You train to feel better immediately and again tomorrow. That means choosing movements that protect your joints instead of compressing them, strengthening deep muscles instead of only the visible ones, and improving posture instead of accumulating compensation patterns. You start paying attention to how your body feels when you wake up, how your back reacts after long hours at your desk, how your neck holds tension, how your hips move when you walk. This is where the slow, controlled quality of movement becomes essential. Not because slow is trendy, but because slow reveals everything. When you move slowly, you feel your weaknesses. You notice where you rush, where you avoid, where you compensate and that’s exactly where your progress begins. Beyond strength, slow and precise movement calms the nervous system, lowers stress hormones and rebuilds trust in the body. When movement stops being violent, the body stops defending itself. Pain decreases. Fatigue becomes cleaner. Recovery gets faster.

WHY CALM IS THE NEW POWER
Sleep has shifted from being treated like free time to becoming true prime time. People have finally understood that no serum, no workout and no supplement can compensate for poor sleep. The way you sleep shows on your skin, in your mood, in your metabolism, in your emotional stability. Bad sleep ages you faster than almost anything else. The new sleep routine starts early. In the morning, you expose your eyes to natural daylight to reset your internal clock. In the afternoon, caffeine is timed carefully. In the evening, lights become softer. Screens slowly disappear from the bedroom. The body is guided, not shocked, into rest. Sleep hygiene has become a lifestyle ritual. Clean sheets. Cooler rooms. Calm sounds. Moments of decompression before bed. You don’t 'crash' into sleep anymore, you transition into it. Lifestyle Tips: Stick to a schedule to regulate your body clock, have a wind-down ritual a couple of hours before bedtime (avoid screens, reduce blue light, read or listen to music), consult a doctor for persistent sleep issues. ✤
In 2026, the most important wellness organ is invisible. It’s not your abs, your heart or your muscles, it’s your nervous system. After years of constant stimulation, permanent notifications, emotional pressure and multitasking, the body is no longer asking for more performance. It’s asking for regulation. You feel it in daily life: that sensation of being tired but wired, the difficulty to switch off at night, the stomach that tightens under stress, the impatience that appears out of nowhere. None of this is random. It’s the body stuck in survival mode. The new goal of wellness is no longer to push harder, but to return to a baseline of safety. And that happens through small, repeated actions woven into real life. A few minutes of slow breathing in the morning. Standing up between meetings. Letting silence replace noise at the end of the day. In the evening, the signal becomes even clearer. Lights soften. Sounds slow down. Screens fade out. Some choose gentle stretching, others quiet music or lying on the floor. The message sent to the body is always the same: you’re

AI FOR PRODUCTIVITY
What It Is: Some apps use AI to help users build and maintain small daily habits, from drinking more water to moving more or reading regularly. Why It Matters: Big resolutions usually fail. Small habits last longer. AI focuses on consistency rather than pressure. How To: Users define micro-habits. The system adjusts reminders, suggests realistic schedules and tracks progress without guilt-based motivation. Apps To Know: Fabulous, HabitNow, Coach.me The Limit: The tools support repetition, not discipline. The effort still belongs to the user.
AI And Planning What It Is: AI is now integrated into productivity and planning apps. It helps structure goals, manage time and reorganise schedules dynamically. Why It Matters: Most resolutions fail for practical reasons: poor planning, overload, lack of realism. AI intervenes at that level, not at the level of willpower. How To: Users define objectives and the system helps break them down into achievable steps, adjusts deadlines and reorganises tasks when things slip. It helps people stay realistic rather than perfect. Apps To Know: Notion, Motion, Reclaim.ai The Limit: AI can organise effort, but it cannot create motivation.

writing. The technology doesn't replace the user’s voice; it suggests prompts, structures thoughts and helps overcome the blank page. Why It Matters: Journalling is widely associated with better selfawareness, emotional clarity and stress reduction. The problem has always been consistency. AI lowers the barrier to entry and makes the practice easier to maintain, especially for beginners. How To: Instead of writing alone, users respond to daily questions, reflect on guided themes or summarise their mood in a few lines. The goal is not literary performance but regular mental check-ins. Apps To Know: Reflectly, Rosebud, Journey The Limit: These tools support reflection, not deep psychological work or therapy.

AI FOR WELLNESS
What It Is: Mood-tracking apps using AI allow users to log emotions, energy levels and stress. Over time, the system identifies patterns and offers simple feedback or exercises. Why It Matters: Mental health has become a central concern, but not everyone has access to therapy or structured support. These apps offer a discreet, accessible way to stay aware of emotional fluctuations. How To: Users record how they feel in a few seconds each day. Over weeks, they can see emotional cycles, periods of fatigue, stress peaks or recovery phases. Some apps suggest breathing exercises or short cognitive techniques. Apps To Know: Wysa, Youper, Woebot Health The Limit: These tools aren't medical devices and don't replace professional care.

AI And Meditation
AI And Sleep
What It Is: Some meditation and sound apps now use AI to personalise sessions based on time of day, focus level or nervous state. Why It Matters: Meditation often feels difficult to start or maintain. Personalisation makes it easier to integrate into daily life without rigid discipline. How To: Instead of choosing a generic session, the app adapts soundscapes, rhythm and duration to the moment: short energetic focus in the morning, slower sound at night. Apps To Know: Headspace, Balance, Endel The Limit: Technology frames the experience, but presence and silence remain essential.
What It Is: Some sleep and sound apps now use AI to analyse sleep patterns and adapt sound environments, wake-up times or relaxation routines. Why It Matters: Sleep is one of the first resolutions every year, but also one of the hardest to stick to. AI helps personalise routines instead of relying on generic advice. How To: Users track sleep hours or wearables feed data to the app. The AI then adjusts bedtime suggestions, soundscapes or wake-up windows based on fatigue and habits. Apps To Know: Sleep Cycle, Endel, Rise The Limit: AI can improve routines, but it cannot replace real rest, lifestyle changes or medical advice. fact magazine

CITY RIDES •
T
here’s something reassuring about a large SUV done properly. Not flashy for the sake of it, not trying to be something it isn’t — just confident, capable and quietly impressive. That’s the space the new Hyundai Palisade occupies, and after spending time inspecting and driving it as a team, we quickly understood why Hyundai positions it as its flagship family SUV. The Palisade is unapologetically big, thoughtfully designed and clearly built around real-world use. In a region where expectations are high and everyday usability matters, this SUV feels less like a trend-chaser and more like a considered answer to daily life. One that understands how journeys can still take longer than expected, even around the city.
Form with Function On the outside, the Palisade strikes a commanding figure. The bold front end features distinctive vertical LED daytime running lights paired with a wide grille that gives the SUV serious road presence. It looks confident without being aggressive — the automotive equivalent of someone who doesn’t need to raise their voice to be heard. From the side, its proportions work in its favour. A longer wheelbase and overall length translate into a premium silhouette, while large alloy wheels fill the arches convincingly. Around the back, clean lines and a wide light signature complete
a design that feels modern, mature and entirely appropriate for a flagship SUV — especially one designed to move effortlessly between daily duties and time off.
Designed for the Journey Step inside and the Palisade immediately shifts into comfort-first mode. The cabin is spacious in every sense, with a horizontal dashboard layout, soft-touch materials and refined finishes that create a calm, upmarket environment. This is a space designed for long journeys — and for passengers who expect to arrive feeling relaxed without having been reintroduced to their knees. Eight-passenger seating is standard and access to all three rows is easy, with thoughtful layout choices that make moving around the cabin straightforward. The centre console feels solid and well designed, offering useful storage and a sense that everything has been placed where it belongs. There’s a reassuring feeling that the designers didn’t just sketch this interior — they lived with it.
Smart Where It Matters Technology is one of the Palisade’s strongest cards, and it plays it confidently. A panoramic digital display integrates the instrument cluster and infotainment system, presenting information clearly and without unnecessary drama. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard – a detail that keeps everyday connectivity simple. fact magazine

• CITY RIDES Connected services allowed us to remotely start the engine, adjust the cabin climate and check vehicle status via smartphone, all of which slotted easily into daily use during our time with the car. Voice recognition added another layer of ease, handling navigation and climate commands naturally, without the need to shout at the dashboard.
Smooth by Nature Under the bonnet, the Palisade is powered by a 2.5L Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (T-GDI) four-cylinder (V4) engine producing up to 281ps and 43.0kgf.m of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. On the road, we found it delivered power smoothly and predictably, with linear acceleration that suited the vehicle’s size and purpose. The drive itself felt calm and composed. Noise insulation proved effective, keeping the cabin impressively quiet even at highway speeds. Whether navigating city traffic or settling into a steady cruise, the Palisade remained stable, refined, and confidenceinspiring – exactly what we look for in a large family vehicle that may also double as a weekend escape machine.
Built-In Confidence Safety is clearly a priority here and, throughout our drive, the Palisade’s driver assistance systems worked quietly and
effectively in the background. Features such as forward collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane following assistance, rear cross-traffic alerts and smart cruise control operated smoothly, supporting the drive without becoming intrusive. One standout addition is the built-in dual-camera dash cam, capable of recording while driving or monitoring activity while parked – a feature that felt particularly reassuring in everyday traffic and crowded parking areas. Combined with 10 airbags, third-row seatbelt pre-tensioners and a rigid body structure designed to absorb impact efficiently, the Palisade gave us a consistent sense of security for everyone on board, including those seated right at the back, who are often forgotten elsewhere.
Final Thoughts After our time with the Hyundai Palisade, the verdict was unanimous. This is a large SUV that understands its role perfectly. It delivers space without feeling cumbersome, technology without being overwhelming and comfort without drifting into excess. The Palisade doesn’t try to be clever — it just does things right. And sometimes, that’s exactly what makes a car stand out. In a segment filled with noise, this flagship Hyundai speaks calmly, confidently and with just enough personality to remind you that driving can still be enjoyable, even when practicality takes centre stage. ✤

RACING DESIGNS FOR A NEW SPORTS ICON Ferrari has unveiled its latest sports car, the 849 Testarossa, a hybrid plug-in which replaces the SF90 Stradale.
The new model is equipped with three electric motors alongside the mid-rear twin-turbo V8, delivering a total of 1050cv, 50 more than its predecessor. The heart of the 849 Testarossa revolves around its twin-turbo eight-cylinder internal combustion engine, which has been completely re-engineered to reach new performance peaks (a remarkable 830cv of maximum power) and is combined with an advanced hybrid system derived from Ferrari’s unmatched motorsport experience. Among the most prominent innovations is the new turbo, the largest ever for a Ferrari production car, enabling unprecedented acceleration. The hybrid group, consisting of a rear electric motor and two units installed on the front axle, is capable of delivering 220cv. The on-demand four-wheel drive system and torque vectoring maximise performance in all conditions. To enhance its dynamic qualities, the 849 Testarossa is equipped (in addition to the latest generation brake-by-wire system) with Ferrari’s ABS Evo controller, which improves braking precision and consistency in all conditions. From a styling point of view, the model marks a revolution in the concept of a Ferrari V8 mid-rear berlinetta: the inspiration taken from 1970s’ Sports Prototypes, together with sharp and geometric lines, creates a unique and timeless design. The synergy between form and function has enabled impressive aerodynamic performance: the total downforce of 415kg at 250km/h represents a 25kg increase over the SF90 Stradale. The cockpit is even more enveloping and ergonomic than before: the central sail motif with the integrated gear-change gate, inspired by the F80, improves the positioning of components and makes them more accessible. A new sonic dimension reflects the essence of the car, with a powerful and pure character. The timbre of the new V8 turbo has been optimised to ensure a recognisable acoustic signature in all driving conditions, while preserving the distinctive harmonics of Ferrari’s V8. The 849 Testarossa was developed by the Ferrari Styling Centre, 42

directed by Flavio Manzoni, revolutionising the shape of the SF90 Stradale and emphasising the car’s technological and performance characteristics. The front has structured volumes that recall Ferrari geometries from the 1980s. A bridge-like horizontal fascia connects the headlights, recalling the styling theme already used on the Ferrari 12Cilindri and F80. The rear is dominated by the two tails inspired by the 512 S which, integrated with the active wing, compose a patented aerodynamic solution. The sculpted rear bumper underlines the car’s sporty stance, emphasising the width, while the central section is characterised by the modelling around the iconic round tailpipes. The interior of the 849 Testarossa is a synthesis between the layout of a berlinetta with a horizontal dashboard and the cockpit of a single seater. The upper body of the dashboard features a floating effect with 'C'-shaped air vents framed in aluminium. Between the upper and lower parts there is a contrasting horizontal band that integrates the main controls and the passenger screen. The lower part of the dash features two architectural sail motifs that incorporate the control functions, with the F80-inspired gate integrated in a floating position in the sail on the steering wheel side. The steering wheel of the 849 Testarossa integrates digital and analogue functions: the mechanical controls already seen on the F80 have been carried over, including the iconic Engine Start button, while the digital cluster allows the rapid reconfiguration of the electric driving modes (via the eManettino). Connectivity is guaranteed by compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while wireless charging for smartphones is integrated into the central tunnel. The car is also equipped with the MyFerrari Connect system, which allows the vehicle to be monitored remotely via a dedicated App. The 849 Testarossa offers a wide range of personalisation options designed to enhance the car's sporty character and stylistic identity. ✤ GO: VISIT WWW.FERRARI.COM FOR MORE INFORMATION.

AN ALL-IN-ONE TOOL The Welder Keyboard breaks the rules to fuse the satisfying feel of a mechanical keyboard and an intelligent touchscreen display in a 180-degree foldable unit. This one is crowd funded, so availability can be a bit patchy but, launched just a couple of months ago, it’s already proving popular. The difference from a regular laptop is that this has a portable mechanical keyboard with a built-in touchscreen, allowing it to be used as a mini dual-screen workstation without the faff of carrying an additional monitor and extra cables. The keyboard uses mechanical switches, similar to a high-end desktop, rather than the standard laptop’s soft-touch keys. And, the CNC-machined aluminium chassis gives it enviable rigidity. Users also enjoy 18 dynamic RGB lighting modes with 108 combinations that add vibrant rhythm to the workflow. The gadget is ideal for content creators, streamers and gamers who can use the second screen for apps, chats or accessing performance stats. ✤ GO: VISIT KICKSTARTER.COM/PROJECTS/WELDERKS/ WELDER-NEW-RGB-MECHANICAL-KEYBOARD-WITH-SMARTTOUCH-DISPLAY FOR MORE INFORMATION.

A PASSION FOR HOSPITALITY fact chatted to Raed Rabie, General Manager at InterContinental Doha The City, who was recently named on a regional GM Power List. He shared the inspirations that have driven his 30-year career and aspirations for the future. “From the very beginning, I was drawn to hospitality because it brings together people, cultures and experiences in a way no other industry does,” says Raed, adding that he sees hotels as more than just buildings. “They’re places where life happens and memories are made.” He was recently named as a regional industry leader, which he describes as “truly an honour”, saying his leadership style is centred around trust, transparency and ownership. “I believe that when you give people the right tools and the space to grow, they often exceed even their own expectations,” says the GM. “We focus on genuine empowerment, giving colleagues the confidence to make decisions that enhance the guest experience in real time. When colleagues feel empowered, the guest journey naturally rises to another level, and that is what defines a truly exceptional hotel.” 50

destination for major events, business travel and luxury tourism. I expect a stronger shift toward experiential hospitality, guests want culturally rich, immersive encounters that connect them to the destination, not just accommodation.” He adds that sustainability, wellness and personalised travel will remain key drivers, and Doha’s growing calendar of corporate, cultural and sporting events will keep strengthening the market. 2026 is also an exciting period for the property with InterContinental’s global signature programmes being brought to life in Doha, from Timeshifter, which supports travellers in adjusting seamlessly across time zones, to experiences shaped around the spirit of Incredible Occasions, where celebrations are elevated with thoughtful, personalised detail. Guests can also expect refreshed menus across the dining portfolio and increased support for award-winning concepts such as the themed nights at The Square, the Afternoon Tea experience at La Parisienne Caffe and the nightlife offering at Hide. Hospitality is well known as a demanding industry in which it can be difficult to maintain a decent work-life balance. Raed recognises this, explaining: “Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of setting boundaries, protecting personal wellbeing and making time to reset. I prioritise family and personal interests and I encourage my team to do the same. When we take care of ourselves, we lead better, think clearer and show up with the energy our guests and teams deserve. “I enjoy discovering new restaurants, travelling and immersing myself in different cultures, it keeps me inspired, both personally and professionally. I also value quieter moments: time with family, reading and staying active. These habits help me recharge and return with a fresh perspective.” And, he adds that after 29 years in the business, he still finds it exciting because the industry never stands still. “Guest expectations evolve, new trends and technologies reshape the journey and every day offers a fresh opportunity to create something meaningful for our guests and for our teams,” he says. ✤
Raed’s Three Qatar Must Tries First, the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar; two remarkable cultural landmarks that tell the country’s story with real depth and imagination. Second, a desert adventure to the Inland Sea, where the landscape is unlike anywhere else in the area. Third, Souq Waqif, the living heartbeat of Doha, where tradition, flavours and craftsmanship come together in the most authentic way.

VOICE FROM THE KITCHEN •
Marriott Marquis has several food and beverage (F&B) outlets. It must be a very high-pressure job. How do you bring it all together and what is your favourite part of your role? Managing nine food and beverage outlets is certainly highpressure, but it’s also what makes the role so energising. The diversity of concepts keeps every day dynamic. For me, it all comes down to structure, strong leadership and, most importantly, trust in the team. Each outlet has its own personality, and my role is to ensure consistency in quality while allowing every concept to express its individuality. The most rewarding part of my role is developing people. Mentoring chefs, watching them grow and seeing them take ownership of their kitchens is incredibly fulfilling. When a team feels confident and aligned, even the most demanding days turn into moments of pride. You were responsible for the hotel’s outside operations during the Asian Cup 2023. Do you have any fun or interesting stories to share about this time? The Asian Cup was one of the most intense and memorable experiences of my career. Operating across three stadiums, managing 12 VIP lounges and serving around 2,000 people every day meant the pace never really slowed down, but the energy was incredible. What stayed with me most was the feedback from VIP guests from all corners of the world, which reinforced that the systems, planning and team leadership were delivering at the highest level. Moments like that make all the long hours worthwhile and give the team a real sense of pride. Behind the scenes, it was organised chaos in the best sense, long nights, quick decisions and constant problem solving. What made it special was the mindset, everyone stepped up without hesitation, supporting one another and treating it as a once-ina-lifetime experience rather than just another event. That shared spirit is what made it truly unforgettable. How do you prepare for a massive operation like that, it must be quite nerve racking? Were you pleased with how everything turned out? Preparation is everything at this scale. We began planning months in advance, covering menu engineering, logistics, staffing and supplier coordination, supported by multiple dry runs. By the time the operation went live, the groundwork was firmly in place, allowing the team to execute with confidence. There is always a strong sense of responsibility with an operation of this size, but that comes with the role. I was very pleased with how everything turned out. The feedback from guests, organisers and senior leadership confirmed that the planning, structure and teamwork delivered exactly what we set out to achieve. What is your personal signature or favourite dish that’s served at the hotel and what makes it popular? One dish that truly represents my personal signature is our Lobster Salad with grapefruit emulsion, avocado, sweet potato, celeriac, carrots and tarragon oil. It’s a dish I keep coming back
to because it reflects how I like food to feel: clean, balanced and quietly refined. What makes it special is the harmony of flavours and textures. The natural sweetness of the lobster works beautifully with the brightness of the grapefruit emulsion, while the avocado adds a smooth richness. Sweet potato and celeriac bring depth, the carrots add a gentle sweetness and crunch, and the tarragon oil finishes the dish with a subtle herbal note that pulls everything together. Its popularity comes from that balance. It feels light yet satisfying, elegant without being complicated, and visually striking. Most importantly, it reflects the modern, refined culinary direction we aim to deliver across Marriott Marquis City Center Doha. ✤ fact magazine

DINING DELIGHT •
here are plenty of reasons to make the drive to Hilton Salwa Beach Resort & Villas: the long private beach, the sprawling waterpark, the calm of the villas tucked away from the crowds, the exquisite eforea Spa… But on my latest visit, I found another one to add to the list: Levantine restaurant, hidden inside the resort’s Arabian Village, a cluster of white-and-blue buildings that look like they’ve been plucked from a Mediterranean postcard. The warm welcome comes from Samah, the restaurant manager, who walks me through the entrance ritual. On the left, rows of large glass jars, filled with traditional pickles, line the shelves. A few steps later, a brass setup invites guests to freshen their hands with rosewater, an old regional gesture that immediately speaks of hospitality. The restaurant is split into two sections, one of which can be fully closed for private dining. Both share the same identity: a modern space with character. Think patterned tiles, soft blue shutters, bursts of red chairs and, on the walls, black-and-white photographs from Lebanon’s 1960s–70s golden age. The open kitchen, where I can see the chef working with ease around the glowing charcoal, is what finally seals my curiosity. I love Levantine food, not only because it’s generous and made for sharing, but also because it’s full of flavour and naturally balanced. A Mezze Parade We said generous, didn’t we? Well, it takes about 10 seconds for that promise to come true. Suddenly, the table fills up with a parade of small, colourful bowls that instantly put me in a good mood. The classics are the first I notice: silky hummus with that glossy pool of olive oil, bright Mutabal Badenjan topped with pomegranate bursts, and a mellow, slightly sweet muhammara. To keep things fresh, there’s Tabbouleh Salad, sharp, lemony, lots of parsley, and a crunchy Fattoush Salad where the sumac bread pieces are actually crisp, not the sad, soggy version you sometimes get. On the warm side of the mezze, falafel is the obvious must-order. Samah leans in with a quick tip before I grab one: “Dip them in the hummus.” He’s right. The hot, crunchy shell meeting the cold, creamy hummus turns into an even greater bite. The one that also gets me is kibbeh. Not the usual croquettes I expect. Here they’re resting on a bed of greens, scattered with pine nuts and pomegranate seeds. The shell is deep golden and crunchy; once I cut into it, the inside stays warm and soft, with that gently spiced meat-and-bulgur mix that feels absolutely comforting. Take a bit of everything on the fork and you get crunch, freshness and a little tang all in one bite. This alone would’ve been a full meal. But we’re only getting started! Straight To The Grill When it comes to mains, Levantine leans fully into what it does best: grilling. The menu is packed with all the big favourites: Shish Tawook, beef kabab and also some seafood options. When you can’t decide (which was very much my case), you go for the Levantine Mixed Grill. It’s the closest thing to a guided tour of their grill section. The plate arrives looking like a full spread on its own: skewers of chicken, lamb and beef, all resting on a thin fact magazine

layer of bread that soaks up the juices. Everything has that proper charcoal kiss: the chicken is golden and tender, the beef slightly smoky, the lamb chop juicy. Rice is usually the plain side I forget halfway through but I love that here it's served with Ouzi rice, dotted with toasted nuts, caramelised onions and spiced with cardamom and cinnamon. So tasty! There’s also a small section of Qatari dishes and Samah doesn’t hesitate for a second before pointing to the Djaj Bil Roub. It’s a grilled boneless baby chicken marinated in yoghurt, saffron and onions. Served with simple sides (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and fries) it’s the perfect reminder that when the seasoning is right, you don’t need anything complicated. When it’s finally dessert time, Samah doesn’t even need to ask what I want: Umm Ali is non-negotiable. It comes warm, creamy, with toasted almond flakes on top for that little crunch. Next to it, the Baklawa Delight of Salwa: crisp phyllo, nuts, sweet syrup. Perfect to pair with tea or coffee. Two bites, two textures and that’s it, Levantine wins you over again! ✤

ucked along the waterfront of West Bay, The Diplomatic Club has long been known for its understated elegance but its newly opened garden venue elevates that reputation to something truly special. Set right at the water’s edge, the space is a secret oasis revealed just in time for Qatar’s golden winter months. A place that feels made for sunsets, long conversations and lingering over exceptional food. Al Sayyad weaves the magic of Lebanese and broader Arabic cuisine into every corner of this new outdoor haven. The al fresco experience offers something enchanting: a blend of nature, refinement and effortless coastal charm. Heavy mosaic tables, plush patio seating and rich greenery come together to create a genuine garden feel. Trees, blooms and pockets of bright, natural colour surround each table, and ours, set with exquisite care, felt like a personal invitation to a beautifully prepared feast. Despite its premium, polished aesthetic, the venue maintains a relaxed warmth. Two thoughtfully placed screens offer the perfect chance to catch the game without ever detracting from the atmosphere; an enhancement rather than a distraction. The result is a space that feels equally luxurious and welcoming. The menu is as expansive as it is enticing. With a focus on fresh, local seafood, Al Sayyad promises variety in abundance. Each dish, a celebration of the restaurant’s culinary craftsmanship. The Hommous bil Tahina was silky and beautifully balanced, the chickpeas blended to a smooth, creamy consistency enriched with tahina, lemon and a whisper of garlic. • ON THE MENU that released a gentle puff of steam as they were torn open. Simple, comforting, and deeply satisfying. Alongside, the Rocca Salad brought a burst of freshness. Known locally as jarjir, the peppery leaves were lifted by finely sliced onions and ripe tomato, all brightened with sumac, olive oil and a sharp lemon dressing. We then moved on to the hot appetisers, with the mixed fatayer platter offering a variety of textures and flavours: the spinach fatayer was tender and fragrant, the meat sambousek had a golden, delicate crunch, the meat kebbeh provided earthy warmth with its spiced filling, and the cheese roll delivered a satisfying bite of melty, salty richness. Rounding out the selection, the grilled halloumi arrived lightly charred, the edges caramelised just enough to enhance its natural saltiness. Firm, chewy, and deeply savoury, it was a comforting and familiar favourite, executed with precision. Next came the main event, and it arrived with both grandeur and generosity. The table filled so quickly with platters and sides that the waiting staff instinctively stepped in, gracefully rearranging everything to ensure each dish could take centre stage. The Seafood Platter was the first to command attention. Even before it reached the table, the aroma of charred seafood drifted towards us, turning heads as it passed through the garden venue. Presented on a large plate with beautiful grill marks seared into each piece, it featured grilled lobster, hammour, prawns and calamari, all nestled amongst roasted peppers and onions. The prawns were plump and juicy, the hammour flaked effortlessly and the calamari was tender. Perfectly proportioned potato wedges and a simple twist of lemon completed the dish – rustic, generous and irresistible. Following this, the Mixed Grill offered an entirely different but equally rewarding experience. Recommended by the staff, it proved to be a showcase of well-executed classics: kofta, shish taouk, shish kebab and lamb chops, all arranged with precision. The chops were beautifully spiced; bold enough to excite, yet subtle enough to let the meat shine. The shish taouk carried the unmistakable flavour of the grill, succulent and deeply seasoned. The kofta and kebabs were tender, almost like enjoying a perfectly cooked steak on a stick, juicy and full of warmth from the spices. Thick-cut chips, just the way I like them, added a comforting crunch alongside the smoky meats. As the sun dipped behind the skyline, the garden transformed. Mood lighting flickered to life, casting warm pools of illumination across the decking, while we lingered over the last bites of our feast and admired the shimmering waterfront. The atmosphere encouraged us to slow the pace, enjoying the moment as much as the food. To continue the evening, we ordered a sweet Moroccan tea which arrived with theatre and charm, poured from a height to create a cascade of aromatic steam. We were gently encouraged to try a dessert and the popular chocolate fondant with peanut butter ice cream proved impossible to refuse. Presented with understated elegance, the portion was generous, easily enough to share. The peanut butter ice cream was thick, creamy and richly indulgent, the kind that melted slowly on the tongue. The fondant itself was wonderfully oozy, bursting with warm, velvety chocolate sauce 60

I
think we can all agree the weather is perfect right now in Doha and what better way to enjoy it than with a little al fresco rooftop dining. It had been quite some time since we last visited La Cigale, one of Doha’s most iconic hotels, so we were excited to have the chance to return. On arrival to the 11th floor, we were led from the reception room into the first large, open space. Since it was night, the skyline was visible through the windows, offering wide uninterrupted views. The larger section of Sky View is very contemporary, arranged across two levels and divided by sculptural wood panelling that adds definition to the space. It was filled with high tables and chairs and served as an entertainment venue. Sliding doors led out to an open terrace that lent itself more readily to dining. There was also a large screen that played the latest matches and sports. We were welcomed warmly by restaurant manager Mikhail and his team. The music was perfectly pitched, setting the mood while still allowing conversation to flow easily: something that not all restaurants have mastered. We thoroughly appreciated being able to talk and immediately relaxed in the soft glow of our table lamp. The service from all of the staff was polished and attentive, without feeling overwhelming. Opening Dishes We began with the salads, which were more considered than expected. The chicken Caesar combined crisp baby gem with warm, pan-seared chicken breast, a creamy dressing that was well balanced, and parmesan that added depth rather than dominance. meat spoke for itself. It was exceptional, the kind of steak that makes you ignore fullness entirely, and we came back again and again. The salmon pavé followed and held its own, falling apart easily under the fork, flaky and indulgent, with a clean richness that was satisfying without being heavy.
Hot Appetisers The hot appetisers added warmth and generosity. Chicken skewers arrived lightly charred and full of flavour, the meat tender and well seasoned, paired with cool tzatziki that refreshed each bite. The beef sliders were rich and satisfying, the patties juicy and neatly contained in soft buns, with steak-cut fries that were crisp on the outside and fluffy within. The beef empanadas were golden and crisp, breaking open to a savoury filling that felt familiar and comforting, and ideal for sharing.
Desserts Even though we could hardly eat another bite, we somehow found a little room to enjoy the sweet treats. The chocolate fondant arrived warm and soft, giving way to a flowing centre that was rich without being overwhelming. The ice cream truffle offered a lighter finish, cold and creamy ice cream rolled in pistachio and finished with caramel: simple and well balanced.
A Pause in the Evening Before the mains arrived, we took a moment to absorb the wider atmosphere. Around us, diners talked easily, some standing to take selfies against the skyline, others following the match on the screen or simply focussing on their plates. The atmosphere felt lively and social while still allowing diners to savour their meals.
Final Thoughts Sky View struck that careful balance between setting, service and food. The views and atmosphere drew us in, but it was the consistency of the experience that made an impression on us. Mikhail and his team provided seamless service and were impeccably friendly throughout. If you haven't had the chance to visit, now is the perfect time to try it for yourself. It’s an absolute must during this milder season when you want to enjoy the great outdoors. ✤

NEW IN TOWN •
I
find it fascinating how a simple, common and even ordinary ingredient like salt can be at the centre of a culinary journey. But that's what I encountered in my dining experience at The Salt Road Doha at Andaz Doha. Located by the beautifully decorated lobby (the hotel’s lobby is unmissable, it exhibits a mix of Arabic patterns with modern art and on the ceiling, an eye-catching canopy bears a design that alludes to Qatar's traditional craft of Sadu weaving), The Salt Road Doha is a venture from Chefs Craig Cormack and Beau du Toit, offering internationally-inspired dishes crafted with South African techniques, with selected salts elevating each creation. I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Craig at an event a couple of years ago, where he passionately explained why this often overlooked ingredient became the driving force behind his culinary career. It's a fascinating story, and he's been spreading knowledge and showcasing the many different types of salt worldwide. On entering the eatery in Doha, you’re welcomed by a vast collection of salt specimens from Mozambique, Germany, Scotland, France and many other countries – some donated by guests. And guess what? Not all of them are white; it's like a collection of colourful sand that adds a unique touch to the décor. Regarding the interiors, the restaurant offers an indoor dining room and an outdoor terrace. Inside, the colour scheme is primarily black and white, with touches of brown ranging from pale beige to darker tones. The wood panels in the ceiling create a cosy atmosphere while the patterned tiles add a funky touch to the space. The open kitchen lets you observe the chefs at work and have a peek at the Josper – everything harmoniously
working to the tune of Chef Calum. The dining journey started with a beautiful, warm loaf of bread that we topped with butter and received three types of salt to accompany it: Kala Namak (known for its sulphur note), Black Salt from Hawaii and Baleni Salt (hand-harvested salt from a geothermal spring in South Africa) – such a creative way to help us navigate this vast yet not widely known world of salts. I previously followed a vegan diet, and Kala Namak was present in my scrambled tofu for a touch of eggy flavour, but it was the first time my dining companion had tried it and she was amazed and intrigued by the taste of it – salt can be surprising sometimes. The menu is straightforward, and I personally liked that it offered a variety of small plates for sharing. I am an olive lover (any type), and if I see them on a menu, I tend to go for them. The mixed selection of green and black types came bathed in herbs, chilli, onions and garlic, very succulent and yummy just how I like them. We then tried the Burnt Leeks, charred on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. This was accompanied by toasted hazelnuts and whipped ricotta, which added a delightful contrast of creamy, light texture with rich, nutty, earthy notes, creating a sweet-savoury balance to the dish. My dining companion couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. We also ordered the Charred Asparagus served with runny smoked egg yolk and sauce vierge (an uncooked French sauce typically made with tomatoes, olive oil and fresh herbs such as parsley). The vegetable was crunchy, the way I like it, and the flavour profile played with the deep, buttery richness of the yolk, with the fresh, fact magazine

acidic notes of the sauce adding complex layers to the grassy hints of the asparagus – it was my turn to be enthusiastic about how divine it was. For mains, I had the Grilled Prawns in seaweed reduction, and my colleague opted for the USA tenderloin 250g, with an interesting twist: slaphakskeentjies sauce. This dish (with a tongue-twister name) is a traditional South African staple made with baby onions cooked until soft and served in a tangy, sweet-sour mustard sauce. At The Salt Road, it was transformed as the accompanying sauce for the tenderloin, adding a piquant kick to the meat. My prawns were kept whole and cooked with a seaweed reduction on top, enhancing their sweet, succulent flavour and adding salty, briny and umami-rich notes for a sophisticated flavour profile. For the side dish, we were unanimous: Parmesan Fries. The mention of a secret salt caught my attention. The fries were cooked to perfection and arrived at our table piping hot, which made me forget about uncovering the mystery ingredient; they were nonetheless delicious. We couldn't leave without trying the unique desserts, so we asked Chef Calum for help. My colleague is a chocolate fan and went for the Chocolate & Almond Torte with an unexpected twist: burnt marshmallow ice cream. She loved the soft brownie texture of the torte. I went down a more adventurous path, choosing the Malva Pudding, something I had never tried before. Made with Rooibos custard and Cape Malay poached peach, it was right up my alley, with cinnamon hints and a tart flavour I adored. South Africa, especially the Western Cape, is a major peach producer, perfect for preserving and cooking. The fruit is often used in traditional Cape Malay cuisine, which blends South African, Malay, Indian and Dutch influences, creating sweet-tart compotes. It was a completely new taste for me, and I absolutely loved it. If you are looking for creative cuisine rooted in simplicity, head to The Salt Road to discover an innovative menu that relies on high-quality ingredients, delivering effortless flavours that linger on your palate and leave a smile on your lips. ✤

oming back to a great restaurant is a bit like replaying a favourite track. You think you know every beat, every drop yet somehow, it still hits. I’d been to Cecconi’s before, brunch included, so expectations were set. High, but realistic. Over the years, Cecconi’s has secured its place among Doha's most reliable Italian addresses. With the weather finally on our side, the terrace feels like the obvious choice. Spacious, green, and refreshingly calm, it instantly slows the pace. We’re greeted by Gianluca, the Restaurant Manager. He talks us through the menu, the thinking behind the place, like someone genuinely proud of what’s been built here. We can tell how much of himself he’s pouring into it. At the table, Brian takes over with a smooth, precise and perfectly measured service. Stick To The Classics The true test of any restaurant? Order the classics. So that’s what we do, and we do it the Italian way, meant for sharing. Here, conviviality isn’t a concept, it’s a given. Fingers encouraged. We start by reaching for the truffle arancini, no hesitation. I bite in while they’re still piping hot, the crust cracking under my teeth before giving way to a soft, molten centre. The fried zucchini, served with lemon and aioli, are polished off in no time. One of Cecconi’s signatures follows quickly: the Margherita pizza. The crust is blistered and lightly charred, airy but with
enough structure to hold its own. I fold a slice and immediately understand why this one never leaves the menu. Bright tomato, buffalo mozzarella melting, basil still fragrant and fresh. I like that the dough is fluffy, easy to chew and above all, never sits heavy (always a win). Left alone, we’d probably clear the entire tray without a second thought. But considering what Gianluca has lined up next, restraint feels wise. Thankfully, the team brings the Insalata Caprese to freshen things up! Cool buffalo mozzarella, vine-ripe tomatoes, good olive oil: nothing more, nothing less. A reminder of just how satisfying simplicity can be when the ingredients are spot on. All Roads Lead To Pasta When it comes to choosing sides, I’m firmly team pasta. I could eat it every day without hesitation and, if we’re being honest, I’d happily die for a good cacio e pepe (I know, dramatic). So, when Gianluca suggests trying it, there’s really no debate. Yes, there’s a small twist: a parmesan cream instead of the traditional pecorino one. A deviation, technically. But one that works. Cacio e pepe may look simple, almost too obvious, yet it’s one of those dishes that can go very wrong. I’ve had versions that were clumpy, bland or just forgettable. This one isn’t. The sauce is smooth and generous, clinging perfectly to every tonnarelli. It's creamy, comforting and dangerously moreish. Any thought of restraint I had left after the pizza is quickly abandoned. One life, after all. The more refined option, the fettuccine with lobster, catches my friend’s eye. The pasta is coated in a rich bisque, with tender pieces of lobster, a touch of marjoram and a squeeze of lemon to fact magazine

sharpen the edges. Elegant and well balanced, it’s a dish for those who like a little extra flair. More disciplined than I am, she leaves a few bites behind. Or perhaps she’s simply saving room for dessert? Before that, there’s still one more plate to come: one of the Chef’s Specials, a Risotto Osso Buco. It’s rich and generous, saffron warming the rice, Parmesan doing what Parmesan does best, a final lift of parsley at the end. Deeply satisfying, exactly what you expect from this classic. At this point, choosing a favourite feels unnecessary. The only real question left is how much room we’ve saved for what's next. Dolci, Done Right Caprese Cake, Sicilian Cannoli Ricotta, Roman Maritozzo… The dessert menu reads like a greatest hits of Italian signatures. Yet one name pulls the eye instantly, framed and written in capital letters: ‘CECCONI’S CLASSIC, Traditional Tiramisu’. And yes, it lives up to its name. Even if you’re not a devoted tiramisu lover, this one is hard to stop once you’ve started. Light but properly structured, not overly sweet, with a clear hit of coffee and a clean, bitter finish from the cocoa. It gets everything right and, unsurprisingly, the plate is left spotless. My dining companion, who has lived in Doha for the past 11 years and has tasted more tiramisus than she can count, doesn't hesitate: this one sits firmly at the top of her list. I can’t say I’ve tried them all (yet), but it's also one of my favourites. Proof, if any were needed, that saving room for dessert was the right call. One we’d happily come back for! ✤

RISHIKESH, INDIA You can’t talk about spirituality without mentioning Rishikesh, which has long been considered the spiritual heart of India. Known as the Yoga Capital of the World and set along the banks of the Ganges at the foothills of the Himalayas, this small riverside town attracts travellers seeking raw authenticity over artificial luxury. The vibe here is a beautiful mix of soulful serenity, wild adventure and bustling street life. Days tend to start early, often before sunrise, with meditation, chanting or pranayama (yoga breathing) sessions overlooking the river as the mist rises. Afternoons might be spent attending spiritual talks, visiting nearby temples or strolling along the riverbanks near Lakshman Jhula bridge, watching the orange-robed sadhus go about their day. At dusk, don’t miss the mesmerising Ganga Aarti fire ceremony, where lamps float downstream like stars. For the full experience, traditional ashrams like Yoga Niketan or Parmarth Niketan offer everything from dropin classes to multi-week programmes rooted in classical yoga, philosophy and breathwork. The iconic Beatles Ashram (where the band wrote the White Album) remains a pilgrimage site, and there has been a recent wave of highend wellness resorts, like The Roseate Ganges and VILEEN Rishikesh, offering Ayurvedic detoxes without the austerity. Food-wise, Rishikesh is strictly vegetarian and guided by Ayurvedic principles. Expect vibrant thalis, fresh papaya bowls and ginger-lemon honey tea. Beyond its spiritual focus, Rishikesh also offers access to nature, including camping, forest hikes and even white-water rafting for adrenaline junkies. Rishikesh isn’t polished or indulgent, but that’s its appeal. Stripping life back to its essentials, it’s the ultimate pilgrimage for the modern soul searcher.

ALGARVE, PORTUGAL If you think the Algarve is just for summer beach parties, think again. Portugal’s southern coast has quietly earned a place among Europe’s most appealing wellness destinations. With dramatic limestone cliffs around Lagos, Benagil and Carvoeiro, turquoise beaches and an easy pace, the Algarve is the perfect setting to escape the grind and focus on some ‘me’ time. You’ll find wellness-focussed stays across the countryside and coastline, often set among olive groves, citrus orchards or overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Head inland to the Monchique mountains, known as the Garden of the Algarve, where thermal springs have been used since Roman times to treat everything from respiratory issues to tired muscles. New eco-retreats are popping up along the Rota Vicentina hiking trails, near Aljezur, Carrapateira and Odeceixe, offering silence retreats and surf-yoga combos that take advantage of the world-class waves at Sagres. Start your mornings with Pilates or breathwork sessions on outdoor terraces, followed by a hike along the Seven Hanging Valleys trail. If you’re looking to unlock the secret to a long, happy life, Costa Rica is essentially the cheat code. With its motto, Pura Vida, meaning ‘pure life’, wellness is a national philosophy. It’s no coincidence that this Central American paradise is home to one of the world’s few Blue Zones in the Nicoya Peninsula, where people live measurably longer. Many wellness retreats are located deep in the forest or along the Pacific coast, where volcanoes, rainforests and coastlines sit side by side. Yoga decks overlook jungle canopies and mineral-rich hot springs replace traditional spa treatments. You’re not just sitting by a pool; you’re forest bathing in Monteverde’s cloud forests, drinking

uncrowded during the off-season (spring and autumn). In the afternoon, indulge in local Algarve orange treatments or a medronho-infused massage at a hillside spa. Cold ocean swims are also popular, praised for their energising and grounding effect. Food plays a central role in the Algarve’s appeal, with simple, nourishing meals built around fresh seafood (grilled sardines), seasonal vegetables, local fruit and olive oil. The mild climate suits year-round travel, while its accessibility is ideal for those who want to unwind without disappearing completely. Laid-back, affordable and incredibly restorative, the Algarve is a masterclass in the art of living well.

Days often include yoga, meditation or breathwork sessions, balanced with active pursuits, such as surfing spectacular waves, hiking around the Arenal volcano or kayaking at night to see bioluminescence glowing in the water. A leader in eco-conscious travel, accommodation in Costa Rica ranges from open-air bamboo yoga shalas to off-grid solar-powered jungle lodges. The food is typically farm-to-table organic, built around fruit, vegetables and rice – plucked straight from permaculture gardens and shared communally. Lush, vibrant and bursting with life, Cost Rica is an opportunity to unplug, recalibrate and remember what it feels like to be fully alive.
SEDONA, ARIZONA, USA It doesn’t get more high frequency than this! Famous for its towering red rock formations and mysterious ‘energy vortexes’, this small Arizona town has become a magnet for wellness travellers and spiritual seekers. Many believe
Sedona is home to powerful energy sites, said to promote healing and clarity. Whether or not you believe in the mysticism, there’s no denying that Sedona feels different. The landscape itself is therapeutic, with iron-rich red rocks glowing a surreal orange hue at sunrise and sunset, creating a unique backdrop for wellness. Luxury retreats honour the land’s heritage through Native Americaninspired rituals, from sacred red clay wraps to blue corn polishes and prickly pear facials. Yoga, meditation and sound healing sessions are widely available, alongside holistic therapies like reiki, chakra balancing and shamanic healing. You don’t need to be a crystal collector though to appreciate the vibe (you’ll find plenty of those in the New Age shops downtown, alongside aura readers and psychics). The real draw is the outdoors – hike the Cathedral Rock trail for views that stretch for miles or take a ‘pink jeep tour’ into the backcountry for some rugged solitude. Sedona is also a certified Dark Sky City, meaning the stargazing is some of the best on the planet. Whether you’re meditating on a vortex site or mountain biking down a canyon, Sedona has a way of silencing the mental chatter, helping you shed the old and embrace the new. ✤ fact magazine

From chasing the upcoming total solar eclipse to bagging tickets for major sporting events and from going solo and quiet to seeking ultra-personalised experiences, there’s loads to look forward to on the travel calendar over the coming year. If you’re looking for inspiration for your next big trip, we take a look at some of the top trends to bear in mind when you make that all-important booking.
HUSH NOW – SEEKING THE SOUND OF SILENCE According to data from leading hotel groups and trends reports, 2026 is the year of switching off. We’re all going to be looking for quiet comfort, finding a way to check out of today’s 24/7 digital culture where work never seems to stop and we’re constantly checking emails and phones. Dubbed Hushpitality, a new movement is fast gaining popularity with organisers such as theoffline-club.com regularly booking out its digital detox retreats in France, Spain and Netherlands. ‘The programme is no programme. We believe our lives are too busy and planned out already. You can do whatever, whenever – all activities are spontaneous and optional so you can go your own way and do as you please.’ Visit Skåne's Map of Quietude is a network of places ranked by decibel in the south of Sweden so you can seek out peace and quiet or, if you really want to embrace the silence, Oregon's Skycave Retreats offer guests the chance to stay for three days in cabins in complete darkness. According to Hilton’s 2026 Trends Report almost 60% of U.S. travellers surveyed by Morning Consult said they would be interested in attending a quiet/silent retreat, including 53% who expressed interest in a reading retreat specifically. GOING SOLO – GETTING AWAY FROM EVERYONE Tying into the trend for seeking quieter spaces, solo travel – the ultimate getaway from other people’s noise – is also on the increase with Hilton reporting more than a quarter of travellers planning to go it alone in 2026 and almost half planning to add solo days to their family travel plans. In recent years, women have taken the lead in popularising the independent glamour of solo travel – social media has numerous groups where lone female travellers can exchange stories and information. But now, more men are also expressing a desire for solo getaways, leading to a slight rise of the ‘Mancation’ in 2026 for those in Saudi Arabia, China and Türkiye, compared to 2024 data. Shetravelledtheworld.com rates Bali, New Zealand and Budapest as its top three spots for solo female travellers in terms of safety, ease of access and affordable options. It’s also worth noting that, thanks to this trend, many hotels and restaurants are making a special effort to accommodate solo travellers – call ahead to reserve a spot for one and make sure they know you don’t want to sit by the toilet – and look out for accommodation options with minimal single person supplements. Check Out: Norwegian Cruise Line, Virgin Voyages and MSC Cruises offer special rates for single travellers going solo on the high seas.

TOURISM FOR THE ANTI-TOURIST Yes, it sounds like a misnomer and, with anti-tourism protests now quite common, it’s perhaps not the best way to describe this trend. But, what it simply means is heading away from the tourism hotspots and taking the opportunity to better experience local culture in less popular but no less interesting locations. It also feeds into another less-known trend: destination dupes – swap Saint-Tropez for the less well-known but equally gorgeous Carry-le-Rouet or Capri for neighbouring island Ischia. Much of the anti-tourist trend springs from a wish to journey more sustainably with travel agency Virtuoso 80

ADDING THE EXCLUSIVITY FACTOR According to elitetraveller.com, access rather than ownership is becoming the new currency with bespoke private members’ clubs seeing a rise in popularity. Particularly aimed at high-net-worth individuals, they can offer curated experiences that are not available to the general public. Following on from the growth in demand for experiential travel over recent years, this is a trend for travellers who seek the unusual and have the means to pay for it. Think cruising on a hired super-yacht at the Monaco Grand Prix, spotting the ‘Big Five’ at a private African wildlife reserve or tickets with meet and greets to sold-out events and concerts. Companies specialising in this kind of travel are likely to offer various benefits from personalised experiences to VIP hotel benefits, on-call concierges and the opportunity to connect with like-minded travellers. Exclusive travel is certainly not for everyone but, according to trends predictors, it’s something more people are saving towards as an experience in itself. days of the package tour where everyone gets the same experience. These days the travel industry is moving towards hyper individuality with specialised options available, often geared to life stages, such as menopause retreats or divorce breaks, which concentrate on wellness and recovery. Another aspect of the personalised travel experience is tours geared towards special interests. Grape tasting certifications and culinary escapes have been around for several years but now there’s a special break to suit almost any and every specific interest from battlefield tours and history breaks to whale watching and volunteering holidays. And one newish option that feeds into several trends at once – hushpitality, solo travel and hyper-personalisation – is reading breaks (a chance to finally catch up on that ‘to be read’ pile). BookRetreats.com offers reading retreats in France, Greece and Hungary, among others, where visitors can enjoy local culture alongside plenty of time to curl up with a good book. OF ROADS AND RAILWAYS According to Hilton's 2026 Trends Report, more of us will be taking to the highways in 2026 – it’s no surprise that the hashtag #RoadTrip has racked up more than 5.9 million tags globally! And explore.co.uk says more travellers are choosing epic rail journeys over short-haul flights – making the journey part of the holiday – in fact, the company has seen a 25% increase in rail bookings over the last year. While Hilton’s report finds some travellers are taking to the roads to save cash, others are seeking out the more luxe option with specialist companies turning the road trip into a curated journey built around Michelin-starred dining and one-off experiences. In rail too there are dual purpose journeys. The appetite for slow, scenic travel is on the rise but rail with its student and multi-journey perks can also prove a cost-effective option. While luxury rail travel too is experiencing an upsurge with the likes of Saudi Arabia’s soon to be launched ultraluxe train, Dream of the Desert, due to offer various routes reminiscent of the golden age of rail travel Check Out: The Society of International Railway Travelers irtsociety.com for information on the world’s top luxury trains.

saying 45% of its clients are adjusting plans due to climate change. Respondents also said they wanted to reduce pressure on local communities and preserve the authenticity of experiences. This change in mindset has led to the rise in popularity of destinations outside major tourism hubs with online travel platform Agoda experiencing a significant rise in the number of searches for non-traditional locations. The company’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report noted that governments and tourism authorities are very aware of the trend with countries such as Indonesia and Japan adopting strategies to drive visitors to alternative destinations, aside from Bali and Tokyo. trends such as the desire for quiet, slow journeys and travelling outside main tourist hubs are also feeding into the growing trend for off-peak travel. And, of course, there are the financial implications of travelling outside the main tourist seasons with greater value for money often available and many hotels and visitor facilities offering special deals. Check Out: Eastern European destinations such as Prague, Budapest, Krakow, Sofia, Tirana and Sarajevo are booming due to low-season costs and abundant culture. ON THE HIGH SEAS Micro-cruising is this year’s buzzword, describing a distinct move away from the giant 5,000-berth super liners to much smaller vessels that can access restrictive ports and offer a more sustainable travel style. As with many of the other trends, voyagers are seeking greater cultural immersion with longer port calls offering the chance to explore destinations more fully. There is also a move towards shorter cruises of three to five days as opposed to the recent norm for voyages of a week or longer. Many travellers are seeking experiences at sea with small-ship voyages to the Arctic and Antarctic on the rise and numerous vessels due for delivery over the coming months. This type of journey not only plays to
the sustainability agenda but may also allow participants to engage in ‘citizen science’ along the way as part of an expedition-type voyage. Passion-driven activity cruises are also on the up offering a full range of activities from fitness to literary journeys featuring author meet and greets and port calls in literary settings. Check Out: Bargeladycruises.com for super micro journeys along France’s inland waterways. CHASING THE SUN… OR NOT 2026 is set to see the first total solar eclipse visible from Europe in almost 30 years. An eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Earth and the sun, obscuring the view of the sun, either partially or fully, from a small part of Earth. This year will be the first time it has happened over Europe since 1999 and, understandably, there’s a lot of excitement for the event. Astro-curious travellers are plotting the course of the event, which will start in Greenland, cross the Atlantic via western Iceland and then progress south to northern Spain and the Balearics. During a total eclipse, the Moon completely covers the sun, revealing the sun's outer atmosphere, the corona, in a breathtaking display. The sky darkens suddenly, stars and planets become visible and the temperature drops, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. So, it’s no wonder there are numerous tours and travel options catering to those who want to witness the event. Visiticeland.com even has a whole section dedicated to it. The date to mark on your calendars is August 12 and get planning if you don’t want to miss it. Check Out: You can track the event at NSO – National Solar Observatory nso.edu or timeanddate.com. THE NEXT BIG THING – HOT TICKETS 2026 will be a huge year for international sports with the FIFA World Cup, Winter Olympics and Paralympics and the Commonwealth Games all taking place over the next 12 months. And these are such big events that travel around them is not restricted purely to sports fans, they’re things everyone can get excited about and involved in. In fact, Airbnb said 65% of the top-search travel dates so far for 2026 fall around major global events. Being staged across the US, Canada and Mexico, the World Cup offers multiple trip options. And the Winter Olympics, taking place during February at more than half a dozen venues in northern Italy, will give the dual opportunity of a skiing break coupled with the chance to catch some of the Olympic action. But, it’s not just the big matches that are attracting travellers. With a growing awareness of sport worldwide, visitors are also connecting with local culture via events such as catching a spot of sumo wrestling in Japan or watching Muay Thai on trips to Thailand. Expedia even says almost 60% of travellers are likely to watch a sport while travelling. Check Out: Roadtrips.com has a comprehensive calendar of all the big sporting events coming up in 2026. ✤ fact magazine

collaboration between Men's Creative Directors Pharrell Williams and Nigo, it's an artistic manifestation of a friendship for life; a symbiosis between an archivist and a point of reference – Nigo, whose vast archives of 20th century workwear inform the collection, and the stylistic expression of Pharrell Williams as a representation of the duo's shared history in streetwear. Silhouettes imbued with memories of the early 2000s are cut in the spirit of the future. Framed by the dandy elegance for which the brand is known, the collection stages an exchange of codes between the ideas of streetwear and dandyism. The metamorphosis creates expressions composed from suiting, workwear and sportswear cross-pollinated in form and fabrication. Workwear silhouettes – engineers, chefs, gardeners, et.al. – are formalised or amplified in material value. Taking reference from streetwear, a sculpted bomber jacket is ornamented with a heroic yellow flower and varsity jackets constructed in the house leathers are adorned with insignia. The traditional lines of tailoring are casualised in cut or volume; some cropped and re-imagined in leather; some infused with Japanese construction. An air of rockabilly and mod pays tribute to subcultures key to the archives and artistic expressions of the co-directors. scattered crystal embroidery. The Dandy Damier features in chequerboard-like manifestations in denim, knitwear and leather. A Damier-infused wave-effect tailoring jacquard evokes the boro repair technique, while kasuri weaving is exercised in tailored jacquard and silk wool outerwear. A Cherry Blossom Damoflage is imbued with bubbly yarn evoking cherry pollen. The traditional colours of wardrobe genres – from the heritage shades of classic menswear to the canvas and denim nuances of workwear and the leather dyes of rockabilly – are brightened by the cherry blossom pink of Japanese sakura. Natural patterns abound in varieties of camouflage. A streetwear trope, it's expressed in a leafy camo printed on ripstop and overembroidered with beads and sequins and a camo tapestry jacquard. The leopard print of rockabilly merges with camo on ripstop canvas and poplin and appears hand-beaded on leather and in chainstitch on tailoring. Leopard print further dots a pixelated pattern as embroidery on tailoring and as fil coupé in shirts. The women's collection is equally intriguing: sometimes androgenous, sometimes ultra-feminine. Silhouettes range from boxy ‘90s-esque shoulders to loose, flowing and, at times extreme. The palette is mostly neutrals with the occasional bright flashes of brilliance expressed in flames licking across the fabric of a pants suit or a flash of bright crimson enlivening a grey skirt adding both interest and humour. Feathers and frills abound alongside leather, lace and sharp tailoring for a collection that retraces Louis Vuitton’s travel heritage. Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Women’s Collections, merges past and present with his audacious signature aesthetic. AUTHENTICITY IS KEY We caught up with Qatari-Emirati content creator Khalifa Abel, AKA @5haxy, to find out what makes him tick and keeps his almost 125k followers engaged. How did you first build your social media presence and why? I started building my social media presence as 5haxy because I wanted a space where I could express myself freely, my culture, my style and my way of seeing the world. What began as sharing simple moments turned into a platform where people connected with my taste, my storytelling and the way I blend Qatari and Emirati heritage with modern luxury. I built it organically by staying consistent and showing up as myself, without forcing trends or following what everyone else was doing. What, in your opinion, makes people engage with your content? People engage because they see authenticity. Everything I post reflects who I am, from luxury fashion to everyday routines. I also pay attention to details: the tone, the visuals, the story behind each moment. My followers know I don’t pretend; I share exactly what I love, whether that’s a fragrance, a car or a travel lifestyle. That honesty is what creates trust and keeps engagement high. Do you work to a strategy and, if so, can you outline this? Yes, but my strategy is built around consistency, aesthetics, and storytelling. ● I post regularly across different formats (reels, stories, stills) to keep the audience engaged. ● I maintain a clean, luxury-driven aesthetic that reflects the brands I align with. ● I make sure every piece of content tells a story rather than just showcasing an item. And most importantly, I stay connected to my audience through genuine conversations. My strategy is simple: be real, be creative, and always deliver quality. You often post about fashion and travel, areas that many people would call passions. What’s your background in these areas? Fashion and travel have been part of my life long before social media. I grew up appreciating style, especially how clothing can express culture and identity. Over time, I naturally developed my own aesthetic, a mix of Qatari heritage, Emirati elegance and modern minimalism. Travel, on the other hand, shaped the way I see people, cultures and visuals. It taught me how to tell stories through images and helped me refine the lifestyle aspect of my content. These aren’t hobbies to me; they’re experiences that influence my creativity daily. Do you have any brand collaborations you can share with us and, if yes, how did these come about? I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the world’s most respected luxury brands, including Dunhill, Zegna, Boss Bottled Beyond and many more. On the lifestyle and automotive side, I’ve 94

collaborated with Ford, Lexus, Infiniti and household names like Nescafé RTD and Flying Tiger Copenhagen. Most collaborations came naturally. Brands resonated with my content, my aesthetic and my audience. Many of them reached out after seeing the quality of my work and how my posts consistently deliver strong engagement. What is your favourite designer style to recreate? I love recreating clean, structured luxury, especially looks inspired by brands like Dolce & Gabbana and Zegna. Their style matches mine: refined, minimal, elegant but with personality. I’m also drawn to pieces that merge modern fashion with Gulf culture, because that balance is a big part of who I am and what I represent as Khalifa. Do you have any travel planned for the coming months, what can your followers expect? Yes, I have several trips coming up. My followers can expect
fashion-forward travel content, hotel reviews, lifestyle moments and a lot of behind-the-scenes storytelling. I always try to bring them with me, not just showing a destination, but how it feels, how it inspires me and how it shapes my content. What would be your advice for anyone looking to build their own online presence? Be authentic, be consistent and don’t try to copy anyone. People follow personalities, not replicas. Focus on what makes you unique, learn your strengths and create content that reflects your real lifestyle, not a version you think people want to see. And, most importantly, stay patient. Growth takes time, but the right audience will always find you if you stay true to yourself. ✤

What We’re (Still) Talking About Catastrophe!

Seemingly miracle weight-loss drugs have been making headlines rather a lot over the last few years. It’s almost impossible to go online without seeing the stories of formerly chubby celebrities who’ve undergone hefty (pun totally intended) transformations through the use of injectables such as Ozempic and Mounjaro. There are even a few on our team who’ve given the shots a go and we certainly aren’t against the idea of those who really struggle getting a bit of help. But a recent headline gave us cause for concern. According to sciencealert.com, pet drug
OK, we regularly poke fun at fashion brands coming up with ridiculous takes on everyday items – Balencia/IKEA tote anyone? But we honestly didn’t expect Hermès to get in on the act. The super-luxe brand is particularly known for handbags that command million-dollar price tags (yes, we know, don’t get us started!), so we were kind of surprised to find it had seemingly branched out into medical supplies… with the release of Hermès band aids. Released via the Petit h line, the little lambskin patches are shaped like sticking plasters but, unsurprisingly, all is
Lions in Saudi – and we don’t mean the ones some ‘people’ keep as pets – that’s definitely a story that bears closer inspection. Arabian Gulf Business Insight reports plans from the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve to reintroduce Asiatic lions to the 24,500sq/km protected space. Hunted to extinction in the Kingdom more than 100 years ago, cave drawings suggest big cats previously roamed freely on the land for around 10,000 years. Now the reserve plans to bring them back alongside leopards, which are already the subject of a breeding programme underway in Taif.
company OKAVA Pharmaceuticals has announced that it is trialling a similar drug for cats! Apparently more than half of the world’s pet felines are overweight with conditions such as heart troubles, arthritis and diabetes on the increase. However, since experts agree that the cat obesity epidemic is mostly caused by the common practice of free feeding, where pets have unlimited access to scoff as much as they want, it would probably be kinder, and healthier, to just lock up the kitty kibble outside of mealtimes. 98

not as it seems. Rather than for patching scraped knees, these band aids are designed for decorating laptops, notebooks or bags and come in a mix of colours. Though we can’t help fearing there will be a certain range of people who’re bound to complain that they don’t do the job of a plaster. A touch of class at a much more affordable price. Or you could up the ante by sticking one on your Birkin – Jane Birkin, the inspiration for the original It Bag, would either be spinning in her grave or laughing her head off.
Apparently, there are only around 900 Asiatic lions left in the wild in India’s Gir National Park but conservation efforts there have shown the species us adapting well and numbers are on the increase. So, hopes are high for the Saudi project. However, there could be a fly in the ointment. Reserve CEO Andrew Zaloumis says the plans are currently at the consultation stage and he is expecting potential pushback because apparently ‘People are scared of lions’. Judging by what humans did to them last time they made an appearance, perhaps it should be the other way around!
