Editor’s Letter

Light can come from different sources, and this month, we are getting it from jewellery, watches and within ourselves. We bring a selection of must-see (and have) timepieces and bold jewels. Even our lookbook showcases a new fine jewellery brand. We are in 'let it shine' mood, leading to the end of another year – one more month and we wave goodbye to 2025. I know, time flies, and letting it pass in style makes the journey worth it. This month, another edition of Jewellery Arabia and Scent Arabia is taking place in the Kingdom from November 25 to 29, and we are looking forward to exploring the latest gems and watches in the market.

We enjoyed two unique treatments to nurture the light within. I headed to Liva Skin and Sculpt Clinic for in-depth care for my complexion. They offer an array of therapies to address all skin concerns – I have to say I am really pleased with my results and plan to visit again soon. Meanwhile, Bushra Hakim visited Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain to try the award-winning Bahrain Island Ritual fullbody treatment. Read about our experiences to tune in with a rejuvenating and relaxing vibe.

We wonder how far you would go for good food, so we've rounded up a few dining spots from around the world that we believe are worth the ticket price. On a local note, we nourished our bodies at La Terrace, the newest dining spot at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain. We enjoyed a sundown atmosphere, accompanied by excellent French and Mediterranean recipes. We also relished the authentic Japanese menu at Bushido.

I am an enthusiast of road trips and wish the drive behind the wheel of the stylish Bentley Flying Spur Speed First Edition took us beyond the country's border – maybe one day.

And don't forget:

BEST FOR HUGS

Quilted garments were created for warmth and protection. Nowadays, the technique appears to be more visual than its original purpose. These are the brands we’ve spotted incorporating these panels into their collections.

jackets are the most common pieces to receive the quilted touch. Loro Piana presents a weather-ready collection perfect to keep you warm.

Do you like cosy looks? This FENDI set will do the trick. Sophisticated, this combo of a midi skirt and jacket will make you look the part and create a huggable effect.

Burberry embraces tradition and takes quilting to its shoe line with a velvet finish. Anyone feeling royalty?

Chloé took its padding to another level with a colonial jacketinspired long coat. The fluffy panels are elegant and sleek – perfect for those looking for a warm and fashionable item.

If you want a more relaxed take on the trend, Brandon Maxwell proposes a padded vest that can be worn by itself or on top of tees and shirts. Great for a futuristic look.

FRINGES ARE BACK!

Somehow, this trend gets a new face every season. The details can be found in hems and intricate knits, adding a kinetic movement to dresses, skirts, jackets and accessories. It can be featured as an embellishment or embody a bohemian interpretation – what we like most is that it offers a playful and dynamic element to both everyday and statement pieces.

SOFT TOUCH

Still in the leather business, suede is making a huge comeback this season. Its velvety and plush surface makes this fabric malleable and easy to shape into dresses, shirts and jackets. However, shoes and handbags are also covered in this sophisticated material. Just don't forget to take good care of it to make it last.

Same, Same But DIFFERENT

Burgundy and baby pink are in the same colour family, yet they feature different personalities. The dark hue is a mix of red and blue, and the light one is the result of red and white. Even though they look very different, they share the same root, which makes them a great combination – just like all families.

Tales of Travel

Louis Vuitton is turning the page of its own history with From Louis to Vuitton, a stunning new release by Assouline Editions. Written by Franco-Swiss author Arthur Dreyfus and introduced by the brand’s CEO Pietro Beccari, the book captures the maison’s remarkable journey from a young Louis leaving his village in 1854 to the global symbol of travel and luxury it is today. The 406-page volume features 320 images and explores 54 key words as themes, right from its iconic creations to its famed Asnières workshop and visionary artistic directors. The edition also reflects on the brand’s commitment to sustainability, sport and the art of travel. Presented in a Damier-style case with a bold yellow cover, it is available this month in French, English, Chinese and Japanese. A limited-edition Louis Vuitton trunk version will also be offered in very limited quantities globally.

The Watch Bible

Audemars Piguet is celebrating its 150th anniversary with The Watch - Stories and Savoir Faire, an ambitious new release published by Flammarion. Nearly 600 pages long, the book delves into the fascinating world of watches with intricate movements and complications, as well as the artistry of dials, cases and straps. Created by a team of over 40 writers, designers, engineers and artisans, it captures the collaborative spirit that has defined the Swiss Manufacture since 1875. Rich with interviews, archival images and technical insight, it serves as both an educational guide and a celebration of craftsmanship. As CEO, Ilaria Resta notes: “This book reflects our desire to share the passion that drives us. It lifts the lid on hidden wonders and highlights the unique skills needed to bring a watch to life. Above all, it pays tribute to the generations of individuals that have shaped Haute Horlogerie and the history of Audemars Piguet for 150 years.”

Bling It On

Swarovski brought its signature brilliance to New York Fashion Week with a hard-to-miss collaboration at Off-White’s Spring and Summer 2026 ready-to-wear collection. The line fused sharp tailoring, textured layering and bold embellishments, with Swarovski crystals expertly scattered across outerwear, denim and accessories. Cropped bombers shone with crystallised logos, while denim jackets and flared trousers shimmered under intricate crystal embroidery. Even trainers joined the sparkle, reworked with radiant renditions of iconic motifs for glamour at every step. The partnership beautifully balanced Swarovski’s savoir-faire with Off-White’s urban edge, reimagining the brand’s signature silhouettes through the transformative play of light and texture.

Art Revival

JW Anderson and Wedgwood joined the Estate of Lucie Rie for a collaboration that beautifully bridges past and present. The special collection revives a series of teacups and saucers that Lucie designed for Wedgwood back in 1964 but were never produced, until now. Each piece has been carefully handcrafted by Wedgwood’s artisans using the brand’s signature Jasperware in soft Jasper blue with white inlays, complete with the matte, tactile finish that makes the material so distinctive. Alongside Lucie’s revived designs are mugs inspired by fifth-century Greek pieces from Jonathan Anderson’s personal collection, available in Blue/Saxon Blue, Chocolate Brown/Black and Canary Yellow/Mimosa Yellow. Proceeds will go towards the Lucie Rie and Hans Coper Foundation, supporting the preservation of their archives and future creative scholarship.

Bring BLING on the

Prepare yourself to be stunned by another edition of Jewellery Arabia and Scent Arabia.

It's that time of the year again when we all head to Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) to contemplate (and purchase) beautiful jewellery, watches, accessories and perfumes at Jewellery Arabia and Scent Arabia. Now on its 33rd edition for Jewellery Arabia and third edition of Scent Arabia, this much anticipated event, under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bahrain, takes place from November 25 to 29.

The two exhibitions are expected to attract over 700 international and regional brands across six dedicated halls and more than 51,000 visitors from around the world. The event reaffirms Bahrain's position as a leading destination for the luxury jewellery and perfume industries. The island captivates many people from the GCC for its economic importance, dining scene and other events such as the Formula 1. However, Jewellery Arabia and Scent Arabia represent a qualitative addition to the Kingdom's tourism sector. These two exhibitions attract a significant number of visitors from the Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, as well as from many other neighbouring countries, according to Sara Ahmed Buhiji, Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of EWB. "This year's exhibition will welcome over 85 new brands, in addition

to hosting a range of specialised pavilions designed to enrich the experiences of shoppers. We are committed to providing exceptional value to all participants and visitors through these immersive and curated offerings," said Mohammed Ebrahim, General Manager of Informa Bahrain, the event organiser.

What's More?

This year's novelty is the Jewellery Arabia Plaza, a dining area in Hall 7 inspired by the atmosphere of upscale French cafés. The space was created in collaboration with Josh Stone Design Studio and Rue Catering Company, offering visitors an elegant space to relax and experience fine dining.

The exhibition also includes a Greek Pavilion, showcasing the works of eight designers and taking visitors on a journey into the heart of ancient Greek craftsmanship. The Jewellery Arabia Atelier, operated by Imperial Jewellers, offers on-the-spot jewellery customisation services, from adjusting necklace lengths to polishing precious items.

Pieces to Love

As a devotee of sophisticated jewels and stunning watches, OHLALA curated a selection of masterpieces that are a must-see (and have), from Patek Philippe's latest women's timepiece to Kismet by Milka Roslow creations. Check them out in the following pages.

THE STRIPED STATEMENT

With the new Gondolo Serata Zebra, Patek Philippe transforms its classic watch into a daring play of pattern, gemstones and design.

Patek Philippe adds a new chapter to its Gondolo Serata line with a version that feels both daring and impeccably refined. The latest interpretation, known as the Gondolo Serata Zebra Ref. 4962/200R-010, brings a contemporary twist to one of the brand’s most graceful evening watches.

Launched in 2006, the Gondolo Serata made an impression with its soft, Art Deco-inspired contours and fluid geometry. It was designed as a dress watch that could easily move from day to night, balancing both elegance and versatility. The original white gold models, set with diamonds and framed by guilloché mother-ofpearl dials (References 4972G-001 and 4972/1G-001), remained in the collection until 2021. The design resurfaced in 2023 in rose gold, with its slightly larger case set in spessartite gemstones, paired with a brown lacquered floral dial (Reference 4962/200R-001).

Now, the Zebra version carries that evolution forward, introducing a striking sapphire crystal dial that reimagines the pattern seen on the Golden Ellipse (Reference 5738/50G-023), one of the standouts from the brand’s 2022 Rare Handcrafts collection. Rather than using traditional enamel, the manufacturer has developed a new method to achieve depth and visual contrast.

The zebra motif is engraved and black varnished on both sides of the sapphire crystal, then finished with black metallisation and white varnish on the underside. The result is a fascinating play of light and shadow, giving the dial an almost sculptural quality. The rose gold case, measuring 28.6mm by 40.85mm, is adorned with 94 brilliant-cut spessartite stones totalling 2.02 carats. The gemstones are arranged in a double gradient that transitions from deep brown tones at 12 and six o’clock to lighter orange shades at nine and three o’clock. This shift in colour draws attention to the case’s subtly waisted shape and curved profile, while a second row of gemstones on the case’s lower edge highlights its asymmetry, a small detail that makes a big visual impact. Two applied Breguet numerals mark the 12 and six o’clock positions, with rose gold leaf-shaped hands gliding across the patterned dial. The watch is completed with a white calfskin strap with a satin finish, secured by a rose gold pin buckle engraved with the Patek Philippe logo. Inside sits the Patek Philippe quartz calibre E15. Though compact, it’s treated with the same level of care and finishing as the brand’s mechanical movements, a testament to the brand’s craftsmanship and consistency across every piece it produces.

FROM SAND IT RISES

Boucheron has taken its Quatre collection to new heights with Quatre Sand Cuff.

Born from the maison’s perpetual pursuit of innovation, the capsule is a reinterpretation of the iconic Quatre, crafted with the cutting-edge technique of 3D-printing sand. Creative Director Claire Choisne joined black sand with yellow gold in a striking set of cuff bracelets and bangles.

Sand is elevated in Boucheron’s hands, but it’s not the first time the material has been used by the maison. In the 2015 Bleu de Jodhpur High Jewellery collection, sand from the Thar desert was embedded into a necklace made of rock crystal. The concept was taken a step further in the 2024 Carte Blanche collection, Or Bleu, inspired by the rushing waters and black sandy shores of Iceland.

To create the new pieces, Boucheron used a 3D sand-printing technique borrowed from the automotive and aeronautics industries. The polymer binder was precision-sprayed onto the sand in successive layers, barely a millimetre thick, like a millefeuille puff pastry, making the grains adhere to one another as if glued. This innovative process in jewellery yields a notably hardwearing material that retains the texture of the sand – a novel aesthetic that resonates with the maison’s experimental spirit.

These pieces were challenging to craft technically. First, the Creative Studio used 3D modelling to achieve the oversized dimensions they desired, while still reproducing the precision edges that characterise the signature Quatre pattern, Clou de Paris. Each black sand component was then 3D-printed before being mounted onto the gold structural bangle. Its polished inner surface and brushed edge maximise the interplay of textures and light, while a special coating seals in the sand’s colour. The clasp on each bangle is inconspicuous enough not to detract from the design’s purity and power.

Moving beyond technical details, the new capsule recreates the aesthetic of the Quatre icon. The seven-piece set can be worn stacked together or separately. The collection comprises one black sand and yellow gold bracelet featuring an XXL version of the Clou de Paris design; two other bracelets with the same materials and pattern in a smaller format; and four brushed gold bangles complete the set. Black sand was deliberately chosen for the radical contrast it creates against the warmth of yellow gold. This bold visual effect perfectly reflects the concept behind the Quatre collection. These creations are the ultimate fusion of style and innovation.

WHEN TIME TURNS GRACEFULLY

With a swivelling case dating back to the 1930s, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s new Reverso Classic Monoface Origin keeps its legacy alive through ingenious reinvention.

Jaeger-LeCoultre recreates one of its most iconic designs with the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin – a new feminine model that celebrates the enduring charm and adaptability of the Reverso’s Art Deco design.

First introduced in 1931, the Reverso was born out of a challenge posed by British polo-playing military officers stationed in India during the Raj. They needed a watch that could withstand the impact of the game without damaging its crystal. The solution was both practical and ingenious, a case that could swivel to protect the dial, creating an immediate fusion of function and form. Quickly, it transcended its sporting origins to become a design icon admired by tastemakers from all walks of life. Its geometric silhouette and swivelling double-sided case (protected by a historical patent, CH159982) cemented its place as one of the most recognisable watches in the world.

The new creation takes inspiration from the earliest women’s Reverso timepieces of the 1930s and introduces a new, refined case size to today’s style. Measuring 32.5mm x 16.3mm, it has the same proportions as the original Reverso Dame from 1931. Perfectly balanced and elegantly discreet, this new dimension honours the original while catering to modern tastes for quiet luxury. Its polished steel case frames a beautifully detailed dial. In the centre, a sunray guilloché pattern catches the light, extending seamlessly into the classic chemin de fer minute track. Surrounding it, the vertically brushed outer section provides contrast and texture, set against finely transferred Arabic numerals.

The watch comes with a choice of a five-row steel bracelet for a sleek, modern look or a blue alligator strap for something more classic and elegant.

As with the earliest Reverso designs, the flip side of the Monoface case is left blank, open for personalisation. Whether engraved with initials, adorned with a meaningful date or decorated with lacquer, it becomes a private canvas for self-expression and sentiment.

With the Reverso Classic Monoface Origin, Jaeger-LeCoultre reminds us why some designs never fade. Nearly a century after its creation, the Reverso remains as relevant as ever, an emblem of craftsmanship, grace and understated beauty.

Symbols of Determination and DEFIANCE

The Fearless Collection is the new line in Kismet by Milka fine jewellery, embracing confidence and audacity.

Envisioned by Turkish designer Milka Karaagacli, Kismet by Milka was created in 2009 and focusses on hand-crafted fine jewellery and piercings. The pieces range from delicate designs to bold statements.

The Fearless Collection embodies daring structures with a refined touch, created for those who like to embrace uniqueness. It features iconic symbols of raw courage and unwavering determination. Many women have left their mark in history, and one of them, Marie Curie, is the inspiration for this capsule. She was the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two different scientific fields, and her legacy is now expressed in the form of jewellery.

The core of the designs is rooted in nature, and two animals lead the inspiration. The honey badger is considered one of the most courageous animals and a synonym of bravery, and the other is the eagle, a global symbol of power and freedom.

The pieces are designed in Roslow gold (a trademark colour gold tone developed by Kismet by Milka that mixes rose and yellow gold), offering a burnt peach hue that can be mixed and matched with other metals, as well as white gold, and some creations are adorned with diamonds. The Crux Ring mixes Roslow and white gold, embellished with white brilliant diamonds. The Battleclaw Cuff mixes Roslow gold and white brilliant diamonds in a daring ear cuff design.

In the words of the brand’s founder and creative director, Milka Karaagacli: “We created this collection for the fearless ones, for those who face life head-on despite their fears because they are the ones who shape the world. They are us. We are fearless.”

The award-winning Tonda PF from Parmigiani Fleurier receives a new upgrade.

Parmigiani Fleurier expands its Tonda PF collection with a new interpretation – the Tonda PF Automatic Steel Rose Gold, Deep Ruby. The model builds on the collection’s awardwinning design, which received recognition at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in 2022, and is now presented in a colourway that adds warmth to the existing line.

The watch’s Deep Ruby dial defines its character. Parmigiani Fleurier describes the tone as a blend of burgundy and plum, a colour that reacts to light rather than presenting as a flat shade. CEO Guido Terreni explains that for the brand, colour is never intended to be loud or decorative, instead, it’s developed through layered tonal depth. In this case, Deep Ruby shifts between softer and darker hues depending on its surroundings, giving the dial a sense of movement and dimension.

The dial carries the brand’s signature Grain d’Orge guilloché pattern, handmade using traditional engraving tools. This fine texture, characteristic of the Tonda PF line, adds both tactility and visual depth. The hour indices are set with 12 hand-applied baguette-cut diamonds, each chosen for

its clarity and geometry. Together they amount to approximately 0.36 carats, graded D-G in colour and IF-VVS in clarity. The diamonds serve a functional role, marking the hours with precision while maintaining a restrained aesthetic.

The case combines stainless steel and 18-carat rose gold, finished with alternating polished and satin surfaces. It measures 36mm in diameter and 8.6mm in thickness, proportions that retain the Tonda PF’s balanced form. The knurled bezel, a hallmark of the collection, is machined to a fine texture that complements the polished case surfaces. The ARunic sapphire crystal provides anti-reflective protection on both sides, while the sapphire caseback reveals the movement within.

Parmigiani Fleurier has designed the bracelet as a continuation of the case architecture rather than a separate component. Stainless steel and rose gold links are integrated in a tapering form, described by the brand as a river of gold. Each link transitions smoothly into the next, combining polished and satin finishes for a fluid appearance. The bracelet closes with a stainless steel folding clasp, completing the streamlined design.

RETRO GLAM ON YOUR WRIST

Breitling introduces the new Lady Premier collection, reimagining vintage elegance for today’s woman.

When a woman puts on her watch, her whole personality is magically transformed.” Willy Breitling’s words from decades ago still ring true and they are echoed in the new Lady Premier collection. The line pays tribute to Breitling’s history of women’s watches, from the avant-garde Premier Fantaisies of the 1940s to the Lady-J and Wings Lady of the 1980s. This timepiece is not a simple revival, but a reinterpretation that captures the spirit of confidence and elegance for today.

The new Lady Premier expands on the dress-watch sensibility of the original line while introducing details that make it distinct. Cases are more fluid, straps are shaded in ombré alligator leather and dials are finished with a silk-like shimmer. Pablo Widmer, Head of Product Design at Breitling, describes the style as ‘modern retro’, a way of revisiting archival designs and reworking them with new curves, textures and tones. The result is a collection that feels refined, feminine and unmistakably contemporary.

LADY PREMIER AUTOMATIC 36

The 36mm models are powered by the Breitling Calibre 10, an automatic, COSC-certified self-winding movement with a power reserve of about 42 hours. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, providing reliable precision alongside a smooth sweep of the seconds hand. Crafted in three styles: stainless steel, stainless steel with lab-grown diamonds and 18-carat gold, the cases measure 9.9mm in thickness and are glareproofed on both sides with cambered sapphire crystal. Dial colours include aubergine, sage,

dove grey and chocolate, with rhodium or gold-plated hands and hour markers, each paired with a matching gradient alligator strap that fastens with a folding clasp. The watch is water resistant up to 100 metres.

LADY PREMIER SUPERQUARTZ 32

For those who prefer smaller proportions, the 32mm Lady Premier houses the brand’s Calibre 77 SuperQuartz, a thermocompensated quartz movement that is 10 times more accurate than standard quartz. COSCcertified and powered by a battery with a lifespan of three to four years, it delivers precision designed for modern lifestyles. The stainless steel case, available with or without lab-grown diamonds, measures 32mm in diameter and 8.9mm in thickness, with water resistance to 100 metres. Its dials are offered in mother-of-pearl, ink blue and midnight black, featuring satin-soleil and circular brushing finishes that shift subtly under the light. The new tapered, seven-row Chevron bracelet introduces a V-shaped pattern, offering a feminine interpretation of the line’s traditional link design, while diamonds cascade organically from lug to bezel to enhance the jewellery-like quality of the watch.

In line with the brand’s commitment to sustainable luxury, the Lady Premier collection incorporates responsibly sourced gold and traceable lab-grown diamonds. Every element is designed to marry technical precision with aesthetics, reflecting the brand’s broader mission to produce beautiful, high-quality products while being mindful of environmental and ethical impact.

Birth of an ICON

Givenchy Makeup has always played in the field of innovation and rebellion, with distinctive application techniques, avant-garde textures and groundbreaking formulas. With that vision at its core, enter Le Rouge Velvet Matte lipstick.

With a completely new design, formula and appeal, Le Rouge Velvet Matte also pays tribute to Givenchy Makeup’s first lipstick, released in 1962. Mixing heritage and ingenuity, this matte blurring lipstick pledges an impressive 24-hour plumping effect. Its skincare-enriched formula promises unprecedented performance. It contains a hyaluronic acid-enriched complex that helps smooth and plump the lips. Shea butter adds even more comfort to the lipstick’s texture, delivering six-hour hydration and long-lasting effects for voluptuous, sculpted lips. A combination of soft-focus powders (blurring powders) blurs out the lips’ surface, making them appear smoother.

Coming in 17 unique shades ranging from nudes to reds, revealing a fresher, more luminous complexion. Each shade pays tribute to Givenchy’s legacy while being resolutely modern. The collection’s star shades embody this approach, from the warm beige N05 George 5 (a timeless almond hue drawn from the house’s Couture ateliers) to the pinkish brown N02 Tailored Nude (a rosewood tone inspired by the soft fabric used in a bustier) and the deep pink P09 Blushing Tulle (a striking pink that evokes a light, delicate tulle). Together, they form an ensemble of powerful, contemporary and easy-to-wear neo-nudes.

The design unveils a precise bullet tip that glides into an elegant, black case that mirrors the house’s modern, graphic silhouettes. The bullet’s tip is engraved with the 4G logo, which also adorns a sleek metal ornament that recalls an aristocratic seal – an emblem of the discreet elegance that defines the brand.

WOODY

Woody perfumes are timeless, often smooth, warm and grounding. Built around cedarwood, sandalwood, vetiver or even oud, they anchor a fragrance with structure and calm, much like a base note in music. They are neither overtly masculine nor feminine but sit beautifully in the middle, making them a favourite for modern perfumery. These fragrances develop gradually on the skin, evolving from bright top notes into a lasting, comforting dry-down that can feel like a soft embrace. Woody scents remain popular for year-round wear, especially in unisex compositions.

Carolina Herrera’s Cedar Chic is a musky, cedar-based composition where bright bergamot and orange blossom soften its edges. Fétiche Le Santal from Christian Louboutin puts sandalwood at the centre, adding fig for a velvety texture that feels elegant on the skin. Guerlain’s Vétiver Fauve, part of the house’s L’Art & La Matière collection, introduces fig and pineapple for a sunny twist on the earthy note, drying down with tonka bean and vetiver.

Oud also finds a natural home in this family. Carolina Herrera’s True Oud refines the classic note with spices for smooth depth, while LOEWE’s Bittersweet Oud adds resinous depth tempered with zesty freshness.

FRESH

Fresh fragrances are bright, uplifting and invigorating. Often featuring citrus, green, aquatic or aromatic notes, they feel clean and energising – perfect for daytime wear or warm weather. Fresh scents tend to open with immediate clarity and lightness, evolving subtly into gentle bases that maintain a crisp energy. They are a favourite for sporty or casual wear, but the latest launches show that freshness can be elevated with soft woods, musks or tropical accents for more nuanced interpretations.

Paco Rabanne’s Invictus brings marine-inspired freshness with zesty citrus and pink pepper, combining sporty energy with subtle depth. Byredo’s Alto Astral blends soft woods with coconut and diffused musks, giving the impression of airy freshness despite its woody undertones. Together, these launches demonstrate how fresh scents can feel light, wearable, and versatile.

CAROLINA HERRERA CEDAR CHIC

DIPTYQUE

AMBER

Amber fragrances are radiant, enveloping and comforting. Typically built around resins, amber and tonka bean, these compositions are warm and long-lasting, creating a sense of depth and richness. Often associated with cooler months or evening wear, amber scents tend to leave a lingering, sensual trail. Their complexity allows perfumers to explore contrasts, with bright accents against creamy or resinous bases, resulting in compositions that are both rich and wearable.

Les Eaux Primordiales’ Ambre Supermassive glows with rich resin and spices, a classic example of the family’s warmth and intensity. Diptyque’s Lazulio blends rhubarb, creamy benzoin, vetiver and a hint of rose, creating a luminous amber-woody fragrance inspired by the colours and textures of lapis lazuli and the peacock feather. Roja Parfums’ Elysium Noir explores a darker, more intense amber, smoky and resinous with complex layers that unfold slowly on the skin.

GOURMAND

Gourmand fragrances evoke the comforting sweetness of edible notes, including vanilla, sugar, tonka or caramel. The trick is balance; a successful scent from this family smells indulgent but never cloying. Modern gourmand launches tend to combine warmth with airy elements or a subtle floral note, ensuring they feel sophisticated and contemporary rather than dessert-like. These are perfumes can be both comforting and statement-making, often leaving a memorable impression throughout the day.

LOEWE’s Roasted Vanilla sits comfortably in this space. Its creaminess gives it an edge, but the brand’s clean, botanical aesthetic keeps it airy and wearable, enhanced by oakwood and pink pepper. Les Eaux Primordiales’ Vanille Supermassive layers warm vanilla with smoky depth, highlighting the note’s richness. Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 Édition Millésime (limited edition) combines saffron, amberwood and jasmine for a luminous, almost weightless gourmand that lingers on the skin like silk. Prada Paradoxe: Radical Essence, the latest from the successful range, uses amber, white musk and neroli to create a warm, slightly sweet composition that feels fresh yet comforting.

Craft your perfect holiday moment. Gather your favorite people and join us for a season filled with festive flavors, heartfelt cheer, and the timeless joy of being together. The celebration comes alive with vibrant live music and a magical visit from Santa, making it a holiday experience the whole family will adore.

FLORAL

The floral family is the beating heart of perfumery. It’s the oldest, most recognisable and adaptable option, ranging from airy, delicate compositions to rich, opulent blooms. Florals can feel optimistic, nostalgic, romantic or playful, and the latest releases demonstrate their adaptability and contemporary appeal. These perfumes can be worn on any occasion, but their versatility comes from how they balance sweetness, freshness and powdery textures to suit a modern lifestyle.

Acqua di Parma’s Gelsomino a Freddo demonstrates this beautifully. It highlights jasmine extracted through a rare cold enfleurage process, preserving its green, dewy freshness. Paired with lemon, pink pepper and patchouli, it evokes the impression of a freshly picked garden bloom.

Guerlain’s Absolus Allegoria Florabloom celebrates nature’s excess with tuberose, rose and ylang-ylang, an ode to a floral super bloom under the desert sun.

Miu Miu’s Miutine is playful and sweet, blending gardenia, brown sugar and patchouli woven into a soft floral-gourmand accord. Valentino’s Amour Sans Détour strikes a more restrained, powdery note within the floral family, combining violet, rose, jasmine and bergamot for an elegant, sensual experience.

ULTIMATE SKIN RESTORATION

Our beauty pages went a bit further this month, calling for a more in-depth facial and Fernanda Langhammer was not afraid (maybe a little) to answer. She headed to Liva Skin and Sculpt Clinic for a rejuvenated complexion.

Chasing a healthier lifestyle and fighting signs of ageing has become a big part of my life lately. I guess growing older has made me wiser, but also very aware that now is the time to take care of myself with a comprehensive beauty routine (morning and evening, no excuses) and good habits – setting priorities is a good start. However, even though I have been more conscious about my diet, I am exercising more and follow all the steps of a proper skincare routine, I’ve noticed that this is not enough anymore. I had been considering more invasive procedures for a while and that’s when Liva Skin and Sculpt Clinic entered my life.

Located at Segaya Walk, an area known for the many hospitals and clinics, Liva’s space is on the first floor. The clinic is beautifully decorated, with an expansive reception area featuring circular sofas (the ultimate trend in interior design), painted in beige with golden and black accents. The floor is covered in Carrara-style tiles while plants and sculptures give a touch of contemporary flair. It smelled really nice as well, giving me a welcoming, chic vibe. I was very pleased with my first impression.

I have to mention that my journey at Liva started before I stepped into the physical space. I was asked to send a close-up video of my face, and I then scheduled a video call with Dr Paridhi and Dr Emil Engibarian to discuss my main concerns and goals. The talk was a great start, helping me understand the therapies available and what I was comfortable with. I have done many facial treatments in spas before, but they were all superficial; it was going to be my very first time doing something more invasive and they made sure I was feeling sure about what to pick and agreed that starting slowly was the best option.

So when I arrived at Liva for my appointment, we already had an idea of what we would do. After my vital signs were checked by Jane, the nurse who accompanied me throughout my time at the clinic, I had an in-person consultation with Dr Emil. He is a specialist Plastic Surgeon, and after looking at my bare face, we confirmed the treatments I would receive as a first-timer: Nanopore and Skin Booster. We also discussed future interventions, but that’s a story for the future.

I then met Dr Alaa Aljassas, who was in charge of performing my treatments that day. To discover which areas needed more attention, she took pictures of my face with a device called LifeViz. The 3D imaging equipment provides detailed skin analysis, supports planning and enables effective tracking of improvements over time. With the pictures, we could focus on my most significant issues – hydration, pigmentation and enlarged pores in specific areas. With that information, Dr Alaa chose the best booster for me, Neofound EXO.

Neofound Bio Stimulation (skin booster) is a solution for those who want to improve the quality of their skin, without going down the route of fillers or anti-wrinkle injections, and achieve a more natural result. There are many of them for different purposes, such as tackling wrinkles, pigmentation, collagen boosting or lightening. They all deliver highperformance active ingredients deep into the dermis, ensuring maximum effectiveness. EXO is indicated for hydration, aiming to increase elasticity and improve the firmness and consistency of the complexion. The formula is based on hyaluronic acids with different molecular weights, amino acids, antioxidants, peptides and synthetic exosomes. She also said she would combine the injectables with Nanopore Microneedling, a non-invasive aesthetic medical technology with many benefits, such as reducing wrinkles and expression lines, delaying skin ageing and reducing acne scarring and pigmentation. I have to say, I wasn’t really worried about the Nanopore, as it’s a device composed of thin needles that open microchannels in the skin to help the booster penetrate the complexion and create minor trauma that increases collagen production. But the injectables, oh boy!

Jane asked me about pain tolerance, which in my case is very low, so she didn’t hold back on the numbing cream and I am very thankful for that. After applying the cream, we waited a while until my face was no longer as sensitive. Dr Alaa then started using the injections around my eye and, I guess because I was terrified of the pain, they prepared me so well (plus Dr Alaa’s really light hand), I didn’t feel much – I even asked if she had done anything – I was impressed that all my fears were basically unfounded. I have to say that some areas, such as the cheeks, were quite painful, but for someone expecting a session of pure pain, this was doable, and I will most probably come back for more sessions to achieve better results. According to Dr Alaa, having this treatment at least once a month will deliver incredible effects. I can already feel my face lifted and I look rested, as if I had an excellent night’s sleep, but I will have a better idea after a week – it’s been only three days since I had the treatment done, so I am looking forward to how my skin will look in a few days.

Post-treatment is all about avoiding the sun and just moisturising the skin for a week – a break in my disciplined beauty routine. I had no side effects and my skin already looks plumper and refreshed, leaving me quite pleased. I am already planning my next visit. I believe I’ve become hooked on this more effective skincare regimen. If you are just like me, a bit worried about taking your beauty game a step further, at Liva you will find really caring professionals who will listen to you and deliver what you need – and, more importantly, what you want.

REST IN PROGRESS

An award-winning spa treatment called Bahrain Island Ritual is what Bushra

Hakim enjoyed at Cocoon Wellness Spa, Hilton Bahrain.

Ithink it’s safe to say I’m a bit of a spa addict. There’s something so grounding about getting a good massage or being pampered at least once a month. It puts my body at ease and helps my mind switch off from the daily hustle. One of the perks of my job is getting to explore some of Bahrain’s best spas, and this month’s visit was to Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain.

My agenda for the day was the Bahrain Island Ritual, which won the OSWA 2025 Signature Treatment Award this year in the Favourite category. The treatment includes a body scrub, a full-hour massage and a facial – a complete top-to-toe experience.

On the sixth floor of Hilton Bahrain, Cocoon Wellness Spa welcomes you into a serene, softly lit space accented with warm gold and bronze tones. Golden butterflies flutter across the décor, giving the space a dreamy appeal. I was greeted by Eman at the reception, who handed me a consultation form before showing me around the space. The tour revealed dedicated rooms for different treatments, including a couples’ suite and a relaxation room, along with separate thermal areas for men and women, with each featuring a Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, lockers and showers.

My therapist for the day, Analyn, led me to the treatment room – a cosy space with a massage bed, a chair for a foot bath and a spacious attached bathroom for both changing and showering. A plush robe awaited me inside and, once I’d changed and stowed my things away, the lights dimmed and soft beats filled the room. The ritual began with a soothing foot bath, as Analyn added fragrant bath salts and lemon slices to warm water, then washed and dried my feet.

I was then asked to lie on my stomach, where warm towels covered my feet and the calm vibrations of the singing bowls set up a relaxing mood.

A brief dry massage followed, instantly releasing tension, especially from my back. Analyn then began applying the gold gel scrub – a rich, gel-like formula she paired with a qessa glove for deeper exfoliation. Using circular motions, she gently buffed away the dead skin that had built up thanks to the recent change in weather. After the exfoliation, I took a quick shower to rinse off the scrub. Since it was a gel, it took a little effort to remove completely, but that was a good sign as it meant the formula was rich and hydrating rather than abrasive.

Once I was back on the massage bed, I was tucked under warm towels to stay comfortable. For my massage, I chose the Calm Me oil blend infused with jasmine. A scent so beautiful and luxe it could easily be bottled as a perfume. Analyn used a variety of Balinese massage techniques, including acupressure, stretching and kneading. Her movements were fluid yet firm and she paid special attention to my upper back, where most of my tension lives. What I particularly loved was the variation in her technique; no two motions felt the same. It kept the session engaging and truly restorative. When I turned over, a warm towel was gently placed over my eyes. A small but thoughtful touch that deepened the relaxation. Once she finished massaging with her hands, she switched to a bamboo stick, rolling it over my back, legs and hands for a deeper tissue massage, followed by a heavenly head massage that perfectly wrapped up the session. The lights went back on, which meant the facial was up next. This was done using Cocoon’s own skincare line. Analyn examined my skin before starting with a mild cleanser, followed by toner and a gentle exfoliating scrub. A light steam prepped my face for extractions, which were done using the Smart Ice Blue Hydra Facial machine. Its spatula tool used subtle vibrations for painless blackhead and whitehead removal, followed by a vacuum attachment to clear any remaining impurities.

Then came a refreshing mist of toner from the sprayer attachment, smelling absolutely divine. An application of eye cream and Epidermal Growth Factor serum was followed by a face massage using the All-in-One Skin Superfood Oil, which nourished and rehydrated my skin beautifully. She then applied a sheet mask to boost hydration, and using a hot wand helped the product absorb more effectively. While the mask did its magic, Analyn did hers with another round of head massage. Afterwards, a cold wand was used to seal everything in and tighten the pores. Finally, a layer of eye serum and moisturiser completed the facial. My skin felt supple and calm, with that telltale post-facial glow that makes you want to skip make-up for days.

After changing, I took a few minutes to sip on some coffee and nibble on the biscuits they’d set out for me. It’s funny how even a small snack can be enjoyed the most when you’re this relaxed. My muscles felt like they’d finally unclenched, my skin was soft and hydrated, and I felt the peacefulness you get only after a proper spa day.

When I finally stood up to leave, I felt genuinely reset. Not just polished or refreshed but taken care of. There’s a difference between a good massage and a good experience and Cocoon Wellness Spa is definitely the latter.

For more information or to book an appointment, please call or WhatsApp Cocoon Wellness Spa at Hilton Bahrain on 3817 0088.

Minimal Yet EXPRESSIVE JEWELS

This month, we embrace the universe of gems with a brand-new name: Akshita Rattha Fine Jewellery.

Defined by sculptural elegance, quiet symbolism and intricate craftsmanship, Akshita Rattha Fine Jewellery honours individuality and embodies the lightness of being. Founded by designer Akshita Rattha, each creation is meant to be a modern heirloom – timeless, wearable and crafted with ethnically sourced gemstones. The brand starts its journey with three collections: Auraya, Marelle and Talora. Auraya explores the harmony of form through sculptural design and sacred geometry. Crafted in 18-carat gold and adorned with fine gemstones, each piece reflects convergence and balance, blending organic curves with architectural lines in jewels that are intentional and versatile.

Marelle is a lyrical exploration of the ocean’s quiet strength, drawing inspiration from coral forms and the rhythm of tides. Sculpted in gold with vibrant gemstones, Marelle reimagines marine beauty in a way that feels fluid, serene and deeply connected to nature’s resilience. The Everblooming, 18-carat white gold statement earrings featuring ombre diamonds and white diamonds, beautifully express Marelle’s fluidity. Talora is a collection named after the Latin word for dew – a symbol of grace, renewal and quiet strength. Inspired by the luminous stillness of dawn where light and water converge in fleeting brilliance, Talora translates this moment into a series of sculptural jewels in 18-carat white gold, adorned with incandescent pearls and brilliant-cut diamonds. Designs such as the Serina, in 18-carat white gold, with briolette diamonds and emeralds, trace a path of suspended light, and the Lunira, in 18-carat white gold, with round and rose-cut diamonds and baguette-cut diamonds in a channel setting, cascades with diamonds like droplets across a moonlit sky.

Drawing from a legacy of heritage maisons while embracing a contemporary vision, the brand speaks to a discerning global clientele who view jewellery as an extension of self, art patrons, collectors and women who wear each piece as a reflection of meaning and empowerment.

“At the heart of my work lies the belief that jewellery is more than adornment. It is a personal expression – a story of empowerment carried through form and stone,” says Akshita.

A Life of INNOVATION and ENTERPRISE

This month, OHLALA spoke to Donna Benton, the mind and force behind the lifestyle savings concept: the ENTERTAINER.

DONNA BENTON

OHLALA – You founded the ENTERTAINER in 2001, providing BuyOne-Get-One-Free offers in dining, travel and more. How did this concept pop into your head? Back then, did you ever imagine that it would become such a big idea, inspiring others?

Donna Benton – When I launched the ENTERTAINER in 2001, it really came from a simple idea: I loved going out, discovering new restaurants and experiences, but I also wanted to make it affordable. Dubai was growing fast, and I saw an opportunity to create something that helped people enjoy more while spending less. That’s how the Buy-One-GetOne-Free concept was born. I never imagined it would grow into what it is today. Celebrating 25 years as one of the region’s leading lifestyle and savings brands, with thousands of offers across the GCC, including our brand-new ENTERTAINER Bahrain 2026. The latest edition features over 2,500 Buy-One-Get-One-Free offers across the Kingdom. It’s amazing to see how a simple concept evolved into a must-have app that helps people save, connect and truly live life to the fullest.

OHLALA – You are the perfect example of a visionary entrepreneur. Where has this skill taken you? What are all the concepts that you’ve created or have been involved with?

Donna – Thank you! I’ve always been driven by curiosity and a genuine desire to make everyday life better. The ENTERTAINER was my first major venture but over the years, I’ve been involved in many hospitality, lifestyle and digital innovation projects. I think being a visionary is about identifying opportunities before they become mainstream. For example, transforming the ENTERTAINER from a printed book into an innovative, data-driven app back in 2013. Now, we’ve taken it even further with our AI-powered in-app assistant, H.A.P.I., which gives users instant support and personalised recommendations. I’m constantly inspired by how technology can enhance real-life experiences – it’s about creating joy and value at the same time.

OHLALA – Why did you choose the Middle East to establish your businesses? What is it about this region that makes it a great place to propel new ideas?

Donna – The Middle East has such a dynamic energy; it’s always looking forward. When I arrived in Dubai, I saw a region full of opportunity, where innovation is embraced and people truly value great experiences. The GCC is an incredible market for us because people here love dining out, wellness and travel – and they’re tech-savvy. It’s also a region that supports entrepreneurs – that’s one of the biggest reasons I’ve kept my roots here for 25 years.

OHLALA– You took a break from leading the ENTERTAINER and have been back at the helm of the company since 2023. What made you come back, and what are the differences between being CEO then and now?

Donna – Coming back to lead the ENTERTAINER felt completely natural. This brand is part of me; it’s my commercial baby that grew into something much bigger than I ever expected. After some time away, I realised how much I missed driving innovation, staying connected with our users and staying true to our core. Being CEO today is about blending tech with lifestyle, ensuring the app feels intuitive, stylish and smart.

“I’ve learned so much along the way and if I can help others find their voice and build their dream, that’s success to me.”
– Donna Benton

OHLALA– What aspect of what you do do you like the most? And what makes you the proudest?

Donna – I love hearing how the ENTERTAINER genuinely changes people’s lives. Over the years, we’ve had stories of first dates at ENTERTAINER restaurants, families making memories at any one of our partner attractions and serious savings made by our users that have helped with school fees or house buying. What also fills me with pride is the loyalty of our customers and the trust of our partners, incredible brands who’ve been part of our journey. Seeing our members dine, relax and explore more while saving is what keeps me motivated.

OHLALA– If you had to attribute your success to one thing, what would it be?

Donna – Resilience and following my instincts. I’ve learned that in business, especially as an entrepreneur, things don’t always go according to plan. But staying adaptable, positive and focussed has been key. I’ve also been fortunate to have great mentors and a strong team who share my vision. Surrounding yourself with people who believe in what you’re building makes all the difference.

OHLALA– Can you give one golden tip for those looking into starting a business? What would be something to follow, no matter which field?

Donna – Solve a real problem and make sure you’re passionate about it. Passion is what fuels persistence, especially when challenges arise. Also, never underestimate the power of understanding your customer. When I created the ENTERTAINER, I wasn’t building a discount product; I was creating a lifestyle solution. Whether you’re launching a café, a tech startup or a service business, your focus should always be on how you make life better for your audience. And one practical tip: start now. Perfection can wait. Progress can’t.

OHLALA– What can we expect from Donna Benton’s next steps?

Donna – Right now, I’m focussed on taking the ENTERTAINER to the next level, making it more personalised, more intuitive and even more rewarding. I’m also passionate about mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs, especially women in business. I’ve learned so much along the way and if I can help others find their voice and build their dream, that’s success to me.

@entertainerbah

This month, we take our travel pages on a journey into food-centred cities around the globe. Would you plan a trip solely focused on the food you will experience? We would.

The term culinary tourism has been getting a lot of attention lately, not just foodies (there are many of them out there, though), but there is a growing movement of people planning their vacations around specific restaurants and cuisines they would like to try. Visiting food festivals and taking cooking classes is also another layer of this trend that helps travellers connect with a destination’s culture through flavours.

A recent online survey conducted by Panterra Research revealed that 47% of travellers prioritise local cuisine as their top food and beverage experience. Airbnb reported that around 30% of its ‘experience’ category is now in the ‘food and drink’ option. Previously, food was seen as just an adjacent part of the trip, but now, it’s playing a central role. We have always enjoyed a memorable dining experience, and this month we bring you some destinations renowned for their exceptional cuisine, along with some eateries offering fine dining with local flair.

OMAKASE WEDNESDAYS

For guests who appreciate detail, by chefs who love craft. Omakase at the counter, every Wednesday night.

1. BANGKOK, THAILAND

The city has a reputation for vibrant food, mainly attributed to its street delicacies. The lively dining scene that populates the Thai capital is something that, once experienced, is forever remembered. The smells, different textures and offerings make anyone, even if not a food enthusiast, embark on a unique culinary journey. But Bangkok also offers a lot more than just cheap food. Its eateries have evolved over the years, with fine-dining spots taking over the city, once known for its street food. You can now find upscale and world-class restaurants committed to ‘sanuk’, a word that means fun and encapsulates the Thai concept of having joy in everyday life.

Thai cuisine is exciting, full of flavours and aromas, and Saneh Jaan is an ode to traditional dishes, aiming to preserve and value the authentic tastes of Thai food. The décor displays art pieces and images of local ingredients such as sweet basil, garlic vines and coriander, creating an ambience that puts food in first place.

Located at Praya Palazzo, Praya Dining offers a culinary journey through Siamese history. You can experience exquisite ingredients and the culture of Siam, which highlights Thai royal cuisine with its sophisticated preparations and vibrant presentations, complemented by the stunning views of the Chao Phraya River.

THANKSGIVING THANKSGIVING BRUNCH BRUNCH

Friday November 28 | 1pm - 4pm th

From

35 BHD

At SUSHISAMBA Bahrain, the rooftop buzzes with Thanksgiving spirit - tables overflowing, glasses clinking, and the rhythm of the day as bright as the view. It’s a feast made for friends, family, and a little samba in your step!

3. CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

African, Dutch, Malay and Indian cuisines influenced South Africa’s culinary roots, making it a melting pot of flavour and consequently, exceptional food. The terrain in the Cape Town region contributes to a unique blend of ingredients; the vine-friendly slopes kissed by the Atlantic Ocean (meaning fresh seafood) result in dishes that use fresh elements but are seasoned with a unique blend of spices. The best part of dining in this city is that many eateries take advantage of the beautiful scenery and offer spots with stunning views. The gastronomic journey at La Colombe happens in a treehouse-like setting at the Silvermist Estate, conducted by Chef James Gaag. The creations first please the eyes with visually aesthetic dishes. On the menu, small gardens are made with seasonal ingredients, and an unusual mix of components such as wild boar and kimchi – umami flavours and innovation are key. Pier, in the words of the Head Chef John Norris-Rogers, is an ode to the ocean. It serves a multi-course tasting menu inspired by ingredients from the sea, celebrating what Cape Town has to offer in a refined experience –if you pay a visit, look for dishes such as curried hake and smoked mussels.

2. BOLOGNA, ITALY

Italy is renowned for its widely recognised Mediterranean dishes; however, Bologna is considered the country’s food capital. The popular Spaghetti Bolognese (Tagliatelle al Ragu – which is pasta with minced meat and tomato sauce) says all about its origin. The city is also the birthplace of the famous mortadella and the beloved Parmigiano Reggiano. This type of cheese, protected by the Denomination of Origin that follows strict guidelines and inspections, can only be produced in the cities of Bologna, Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena and Mantua, all located in the Emilia Romagna region. If that’s not enough reason to visit the city, its medieval architecture and financial importance might help.

For those looking to escape the buzz of the city, these two restaurants will hit the spot. Casa Mazzucchelli, located in Sasso Marconi between the Bologna Hills and Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, blends family traditions with innovative techniques in the hands of Chef Aurora Mazzucchelli and her brother Massimo. With Emilian and Sicilian roots, the menu is an expression of hearty dishes with leavened goods, such as bread, stealing the show.

L’800 restaurant is located in an old farmhouse in the Argelato countryside in the province of Bologna. It features period furniture and regional cuisine using unique ingredients such as snails and frogs’ legs. It also offers a tasting menu totally dedicated to snails.

LA COLOMBE

4. COPENHAGEN, DENMARK

Since the opening of Noma in 2003 (founded by René Redzepi), Copenhagen has become a reference in the food field, significantly influencing global fine dining. The restaurant is a pioneer of the new Nordic movement, emphasising seasonal, local and foraged ingredients, which have helped turn the city into a landmark in the culinary world. Despite changing its original format and no longer functioning as a regular restaurant, it has evolved into a cuisine lab now, with a limited number of seats. Noma remains relevant, having been featured in the acclaimed TV show, The Bear

If you are looking for more than an exciting menu, Alchemist combines gastronomy, drama, art and spectacular visuals to create a holistic dining experience. Pre-information that you must have is that the experience lasts from four to six hours and patrons are requested to come with curiosity and presence of mind. The downside is that it might take three months to get a reservation.

Another restaurant worth checking is Geranium, with a light vibe and a mission to create meals that involve all senses. The restaurant is located on the eighth floor in Fælledparken (Common Gardens) in the centre of Copenhagen. It offers a plant-based, seafood-focussed tasting menu inspired by the seasons and Danish traditions.

6. SAN SEBASTIÁN, SPAIN

This city in Spain’s Basque region is well-known worldwide for its namesake cheesecake. However, the place is not only famed for this sweet delicacy but also for its pintxos (tapas) and dishes like txuleta (an aged steak) and bacalao al pil-pil (cod fish prepared in a special sauce). A spot for discerning gourmands, but also a great destination if you appreciate coastal vibes and Belle Époque architecture. The good news is that every cobbled street in the Old Town hides a dining gem, and you can book food tours. Looking for something fancier, San Sebastián has one of the highest concentrations of Michelin-starred restaurants in the world.

Located in a pedestrian street in the city’s old quarter, Casa Urola, headed by Chef Pablo Loureiro, offers traditional Basque cuisine with a twist. It has a lively pintxos bar, but also a stylish dining room on the first floor. Market-inspired dishes and fish and meat cooked on the grill, with black monkfish a highlight, compose the menu.

Ikaitz is a family-run restaurant located in the Gros district, focusing on traditional regional dishes. A selection of fish, meat and locally sourced ingredients celebrates the Basque flavours – grilled octopus and boneless oxtail are some of the must-try options.

5. LISBON, PORTUGAL

Well known for its sardines, salted cod and eggy desserts, the Portuguese capital is a destination for food lovers looking for something comforting but with that extra pizzazz. The small country has significant marine influences, but also knows how to explore its land produce with traditional recipes mixing grandmothers’ expertise and sailors’ discoveries around the world. The city was recognised as Europe’s Best Culinary Destination in 2024 by the World Culinary Awards. An excellent destination for lovers of fresh seafood, seasoned meat, hearty soups and flaky desserts. Prado not only embraces local ingredients but also follows the ‘farm-totable’ concept, which exudes fresh and seasonal dishes. At the heart of the eatery is Chef Antonio Galapito, who emphasises the importance of smallscale producers and lets the seasons inspire his creations. A tasting menu is offered in the evenings.

Set on a side street in the popular Bairro Alto, Essencial blends French techniques with seasonal Portuguese ingredients in the hands of Chef André Lança Cordeiro. Vol-au-vent de Lavagante and Moleja (lobster and sweetbread vol-au-vent) and Pithiviers de Novilho (beef pie) are some of the main highlights. It offers a fixed-price tasting menu that is complemented by grape pairing – a spot-on choice.

7. TOKYO, JAPAN

According to the Mastercard Economics Institute’s Travel Report, Tokyo was the trendiest summer destination in 2025 (from June to September 2025). The Japanese capital has many attractions, and its culinary offerings are one of the reasons it attracts so many tourists. The city’s unparalleled skill of blending heritage with futuristic elements makes dining there an exciting experience. Forget about sushi and sashimi that you’ve eaten elsewhere in the world; the culinary journey in Japan is unique and most probably not easy to find in another geographical location.

Japanese restaurants typically feature a minimalist interior design, allowing the food to take centre stage. Ginza Kousui praises seasonal ingredients in its menu, highlighting delectable ingredients from the mountain and sea. The Shizuoka-born chef plays with guests’ five senses with unique flavours and eye-catching presentation.

Chef Kazuki Tagaki heads Chisou Koryu, where he expresses his desire to create dishes that entertain guests through his unique perspective on ingredients. His creative menu includes puffer fish spring rolls, monaka wafer cake filled with monkfish liver and more innovative recipes.

Luscious Food with a FRENCH ACCENT

New dining spot on the island? We are there! Fernanda Langhammer headed to La Terrace at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain, to discover what’s on the menu.

The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain is a well-known destination for its beautiful beach and pool area, good vibes and delectable dining experiences in the heart of the city. With the weather reaching its prime in this part of the world, the property has added a new, charming spot to the long list of eateries on offer: La Terrace. The new space is located on your left after crossing the revolving door that leads to the pool area. For those who know the space well, it’s just outside La Med. I was surprised by how cool the place looks. It has its own character with a menu that pleases all palates. The décor is edgy, with grey floors, massive black umbrellas and black-and-white chairs with turquoise cushions – inviting, right?

My party and I were there during sundown, and it was an enjoyable experience that I believe I haven’t felt in a while. Maybe it was the nice weather, the DJ tunes, good company, a new menu to explore or the sound of water splashing in the pool a few metres away, but it just felt right, like I had unplugged from the urges of the day and just embraced a feeling of relaxation.

For me, an aspect that makes good food even better is having knowledgeable, friendly staff. Abhishek assisted us throughout our dining journey with patience and attention to our many requests. He also helped us pick items from the expertly crafted menu. The selection is an ode to classic French dishes with a local and Mediterranean twist, perfect to accommodate all diets and preferences.

We placed our orders and, in no time, the dishes started arriving at our table. The Niçoise Salad, a classic recipe originating in the coastal city of Nice, France, is traditionally made with tomatoes, hard-boiled eggs and tuna. At La Terrace, it was also accompanied by green beans, cooked potatoes,

green leaves and onions, with all ingredients plated in separate portions. The confit red tuna was the best part, with a tender, flaky texture and luxurious flavour, far moister than typical canned tuna, absolutely delicious. The Spanish Octopus was next, grilled to perfection and accompanied by rocket salad and cherry tomatoes. This delicacy is one of my dining companion’s favourite seafoods and we were all excited to try it. In my opinion, octopus should be prepared simply to highlight the incredible qualities of this oceanic treat – and that’s precisely what we got. The grilling process added a charred, smoky flavour, revealing a tender, succulent consistency with a slightly sweet, mild aquatic touch that was far from fishy – one of the winners in an evening of strong contenders. Still in the seafood business, we tried the Oysters On Ice, six pieces of the freshest samples I have ever had in my life, and Garlic Prawns. I know, it was a marine feast! The prawns were butter-poached, meaning they were cooked slowly and gently in melted butter at a low temperature. This cooking style prevents food from becoming tough, keeping it moist and juicy. The lemon and parsley added the final touch, giving it a luscious bite.

Moving on to mains, we tried a great vegetarian pick: Tagliatelle with Mushroom and Truffle Cream. I have to confess that I am a pasta lover, and if there is an option on the menu, I automatically go for it. If it has a truffle touch, there is no way I won’t order it. As expected, the warm dish was as comforting as I wanted it to be – rich, decadent and earthy, with deep umami flavour. The truffle provides a musky and pungent aroma that marries beautifully with the mushroom’s meaty notes, enveloped in a silky, creamy sauce – it was luxurious and indulgent, and I kept going back for more.

From the Signature Dishes section of the menu, we tried the Truffle Croque Monsieur, which Abhishek insisted on (thankfully) and Steak Frites, which is commonly served in French and Belgian brasseries. We initially didn’t go for this because it’s usually just a fancy grilled cheese.

However, La Terrace elevates it to an entirely new level; the bread feels like it was made as a sophisticated puff pastry, generously filled with Emmental cheese, turkey ham, truffle shavings and, last but not least, truffle béchamel sauce. The crispy exterior and rich filling delivered an exuberant bite, with complex flavours that somehow harmonise – perfect for cold nights when all you want is a meal with intense notes. The steak was beautiful: US prime striploin (250g), cooked in herb butter, served with fluffy, salty French fries and salad. Every proper place serving highquality meat usually provides special cutlery to enhance the experience and at La Terrace, we received nice-looking Laguiole French knives. The meat was juicy and succulent with a deeply browned crust – heaven on a plate for a carnivore.

On a side note, if you are a caviar enthusiast, there is a Caviar Service in the menu offering Kaspian Caviar served with sour cream, chives, chopped egg white and yolk, shallots, capers, blinis, crispy and boiled potatoes. You can choose from 10g to 125g.

To end our meal, we tried two French desserts: Crepe Suzette and Profiteroles. The crepes were flamed in a very theatrical tableside performance by Pastry Chef Rajashekar. A delicate sweet made with thin, pancakes folded in quarters, served in a caramelised orange sauce. The dough was super light, with pieces of orange confit and fresh segments. A mouthful of striking flavours that we all loved. The profiteroles had a choux pastry that was crispy on the outside with a slightly moist interior, and, to my joy, it was not filled with whipped cream but with soft vanilla ice cream, finished with a chocolate sauce – not too sweet, just perfect. If you are looking for a place that offers superb ambience for a casual endof-the-day drink paired with tasty food and hookah, La Terrace will tick all the boxes. But you have to move fast – the tables are proving to be hot tickets – it’s outdoor season, babe.

A TRUE JAPANESE DINING EXPERIENCE

From authentic ambience to refined flavours, Liz O’Reilly discovered that Bushido by Buddha-Bar does it all… beautifully.

Bushido may have been around long enough to become a bit of a Bahrain institution, but walking through those heavily ornamented doors never fails to impress. Bushido means ‘The Way of the Warrior’ referring to the code of honour and morals developed by the Japanese Samurai. So, it’s no surprise that you’re greeted by suits of Samurai armour at the entrance, which sets the tone for the darkly intimate interiors.

Japanese references abound and, when you visit, please don’t forget to look up. Arranged over two floors, the walls and ceilings in this expansive space are every bit as interesting as what’s going on at eye level. Traditional lanterns drop to form giant chandeliers, casting an intimate glow, and several sets of Samurai armour sit in a gallery high up on one wall, as if mounting a silent honour guard over the patrons below.

An expansive staircase makes an impressive centrepiece leading to the DJ booth and an upper seating area from which to observe the festivities below. And festivities there are, since Bushido is known as much for its extravagant VIP parties as for its exceptional food.

Heading there at lunchtime, we got to sample a selection of dishes from the à la carte menu, all suggested and prepared by Executive Chef Goh Boon Wah, himself an institution and a major influence on Bahrain’s pan-Asian culinary scene.

True to Bushido’s Japanese ethos, first to the table was a serving of Ambassador Rolls – quite a unique combination of shrimp and crabsticks rolled with fried shrimp tempura and creamy cheese. Topped with rock shrimp and green caviar, these were clean and refreshing while at the same time comforting, a great winter option.

Dim sum is a Bushido signature and the Truffle Chicken Xiao Long Bao proved a definite favourite at our table. Savoury minced chicken in a light, almost citrusy broth made extra special with the addition of delicately earthy truffle all encased in a silky, doughy dumpling. Chef Goh warned us that sometimes the broth will spit out when you bite in, so I started with a delicate nibble. Soon though, the delicious combination of gooey dough and umami filling had me tucking in like a pro – no spitting experienced. Next to the table was a dish I have not encountered before: big, juicy shrimp split and grilled, then coated in mayonnaise and grilled again. Their tops, a tempting golden brown, yielding to the sweet meat below, the mayo provided an interesting texture combination, its high fat content saving the flesh from becoming dry in the double grilling process. The last of the appetisers was one of my all-time favourites: Shrimp Tempura. Big, crunchy, sweet and tasty, the batter was so crisp it crackled in the mouth with each bite before yielding to reveal the chunks of meat within. Even going back to this after it had cooled (as I did several times throughout our meal) did not diminish the crispness of the superb batter, a true sign of excellence.

We tried two mains of which the first, Wagyu ribeye cooked with house teriyaki, sesame and truffle oil, had my dining companions waxing lyrical. Served with a medley of crunchy vegetables including baby corn, corn on the cob, broccoli, courgettes and sweet new potatoes, all coated in that glossy teriyaki sauce, this dish was another exceptional offering. The meat so sweet, succulent and tender, it literally dissolved on the tongue with chips of roasted garlic adding a deliciously smoky kick to an already deeply satisfying combination.

For me though, the Warrior’s Seafood Ramen was undoubtedly the dish of the day. Glossy smooth noodles accompanied by squid, prawn, scallops, lobster and Japanese fishcakes, all enveloped in a supremely tasty broth. Chef Goh explained that the soup is made with black cod bones, shrimp,

tomatoes and vegetables all simmered for at least three hours. The aroma alone excited my taste buds and a gloriously light spicy kick delivered on that promise. Earthy shiitake and king mushrooms complemented the sweetness of the seafood and I truly couldn’t get enough of the scallops –delicate flavour with a robust texture and cooked to perfection. Dessert was a fitting finale to the culinary excellence that had gone before and a feast for the eyes, arriving at the table in a magnificent floral display pouring smoke from strategically placed dry ice.

We were lucky enough to be treated to a whole selection from the allhomemade dessert menu, including chocolate and vanilla ice creams and mango and raspberry sorbets, the latter both tart and sweet and my personal favourite, alongside fresh fruit (the biggest grapes I have ever seen), chocolate, Red Velvet, honey and pistachio layer cakes, glossy profiteroles, decadent panna cotta and more, all accompanied by sweet sesame crackers.

Aside from the sorbet, I particularly loved the profiteroles with their light, airy choux pastry and smooth, creamy filling and the panna cotta with its rich red-berry topping.

We honestly shouldn’t have been able to eat any more, but I’m proud to say that, between my dining companions and myself, we managed to thoroughly enjoy every mouthful of this magnificently decadent display and our meal couldn’t have ended on a higher note.

From the eye-catching interiors to the attentive serving staff and the excellence of the ingredients to Chef Goh’s warm welcome and genuine hospitality, I can fully recommend Bushido. Whether you want a quick lunchtime bite or the chance to linger over a superbly constructed menu of Japanese and other Asian delights that turns an evening into an occasion, you won’t go wrong here.

REFINEMENT IN MOTION

OHLALA SPENT THE DAY BEHIND THE WHEEL OF BENTLEY’S FLYING SPUR SPEED FIRST EDITION – WHERE PERFORMANCE AND PRESENCE MEET POWER IN PERFECT HARMONY.

There are test drives, and then there are Bentley test drives. When the Flying Spur Speed First Edition arrived in Bahrain, we didn’t just take the keys – we took a deep breath. This fourthgeneration Flying Spur, finished in elegant Cambrian Grey, promised to blend British craftsmanship with modern hybrid innovation. Over our drive, it proved that performance, style and sustainability can coexist effortlessly.

GRACE WITH GRAVITAS

At first glance, the Flying Spur Speed looked less like a car and more like an occasion. Its proportions were pure Bentley: long bonnet, short front overhang and a rear stance that radiated presence. The Cambrian Grey paint – a refined mid-grey with a whisper of blue – shimmered subtly under Bahrain’s sunlight, accentuating its sculpted curves. Every detail told a story. The dark-tint brightware and Blackline Specification gave the car a contemporary edge, while the illuminated Flying B mascot rose gracefully from the bonnet like a piece of jewellery. Our test model’s 22-inch gloss-black wheels completed the look – elegant, bold and commanding without ever feeling excessive. The Flying Spur exuded the kind of confidence that doesn’t seek attention – it simply commands it.

THE ART OF COMFORT

Inside, luxury meets theatre. The Pillar Box Red and Gravity Grey hides by Mulliner delivered a dramatic yet tasteful contrast, paired with high-gloss carbon-fibre veneer for a touch of modern sophistication. The dark chrome

accents gleamed softly – technical, stylish and unmistakably Bentley. The new Precision Diamond quilting on the seats and 3D diamond hide across the doors created a tactile sense of sculpture. Everything you touched, pressed or adjusted felt deliberate – as if Bentley’s designers had asked: “What would feel good after a long day of being fabulous?” It’s a cabin that makes you sit taller and drive slower, just to make it last.

INNOVATION WITH INTUITION

Beneath the glamour lies technology that anticipates your every move. The My Bentley App Studio integrates navigation, music and streaming apps directly into the system, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto keep things effortlessly connected. The crisp 12.3-inch display is intuitive and elegant – simple, fast and logical.

Rear passengers are equally indulged. The Bentley Rear Entertainment system transformed the back seats into a private lounge, complete with twin screens and crystal-clear sound from the 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen setup. It’s the kind of comfort that encourages unhurried travel – no one in a Bentley is ever in a rush.

A POLISHED PERFORMANCE

Underneath that graceful exterior lies Bentley’s Ultra Performance Hybrid – a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 paired with a 190PS electric motor. Together they deliver 782PS and 1,000Nm of torque, making this the most powerful Bentley saloon ever. The result? 0–100km/h in 3.5 seconds – and the only drama was on the speedometer.

“The Flying Spur exuded the kind of confidence that doesn’t seek attention – it simply commands it.”

The Performance Active Chassis and Bentley Dynamic Ride systems worked in harmony to keep the car balanced, while All-Wheel Steering made manoeuvres fluid. The eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox felt psychic – always one step ahead, the kind that quietly makes you look more skilled than you are.

In full-electric mode, the Flying Spur glided silently for up to 76km – ideal for early starts or late arrivals when you’d rather impress the neighbours with your taste than your exhaust note.

SMART, SUBTLE AND SAFE

During our drive, the Flying Spur Speed revealed how advanced Bentley’s technology has become – not hidden in the background, but elegantly present in every moment. The car’s electrical system worked like an invisible co-driver, monitoring surroundings through the environment display and responding with precision. Intelligent Park Assist proved its worth, guiding the car into tight spaces with accuracy that inspired confidence – and spared us the indignity of a second attempt.

The optional Wellness Seating Specification also made its presence known and appreciated. Seat Auto Climate and Postural Adjust constantly adapting to our movements and the cabin temperature, easing muscle tension and keeping us comfortable long after most cars would have us fidgeting. The air-filtration and ionisation system kept the cabin calm and fresh, even when the outside world was doing its best to test both.

Remote Park Assist and cabin pre-conditioning felt like small luxuries that made a big impression. Watching the Flying Spur glide neatly into a space or stepping into a cabin already cooled to perfection was a reminder that true refinement is about thoughtfulness, not theatre.

FINAL REFLECTION

Our day with the Flying Spur Speed confirmed what we already knew –Bentley doesn’t build cars; it crafts experiences. This isn’t merely a grand saloon; it’s a statement of refinement and quiet power.

Across Bahrain – from the long highways to the heart of the city – it felt perfectly at home: poised, potent and effortlessly composed. To us, the Flying Spur Speed First Edition isn’t just about reaching a destination; it’s about making every journey feel like it’s worth dressing up for.

NEWS FLASH!

The gossip, the drama and the outfits everyone’s talking about, all with Miss Ohlala.

As if piercing ears, noses and eyebrows wasn’t enough, shoes have joined in too. Tory Burch started it in 2023 with Chelsea boots sporting toe rings and metal-hooped mules. Now Cult Gaia and Lado Bokuchava are turning loafers, Mary Janes and boots into full-blown jewellery statements. Footwear is officially loud, absurd and Instagram can’t get enough of it.

Butter yellow has finally melted away, and chartreuse is here to take over. That yellow-green shade that can’t decide what it wants to be but is everywhere. It instantly brightens (or burns) the eyes, depending on who you ask. Bottega, Chloé and Maison Margiela are all hooked, proving that people are now kind of done with neutrals.

JW Anderson x Uniqlo is the latest obsession online. Influencers joke it’s “Dior for less” since Jonathan Anderson now leads Dior, so the logic tracks, sort of. Smart shirts, Marino wool knits and corduroy jackets are all selling out fairly fast. Affordable luxury disguised as everyday staples. It’s minimal effort with maximum hype.

Remember when Maria Grazia Chiuri stepped down and everyone kept speculating where she’s headed next? The same designer who reshaped Dior is heading back to FENDI, the brand where it all began for her. She’s taking over as Creative Director, bringing her signature brand of feminism-meetscraftsmanship, sharp tailoring, softer storytelling and a new chapter for FENDI’s modern woman.
