Editor’s Letter

And just like that, it's time to wave goodbye to another year. For me, another one that passed way too fast, it feels like it was just yesterday that we were welcoming 2025 full of hopes and intentions. I am not the type who makes a list of New Year's resolutions – I follow the flow – but this time of year invariably ignites some sort of planning and goal-chasing in the back of my head. I guess I also play a small recap to keep what was good and discard what was not so positive. Regardless, it's a month to celebrate the things that got sorted, the wins and also the losses; they are all part of us. A la OHLALA style, the festive season is embraced with stunning dresses with a touch of sparkle. Our fashion pages will help you sort your outfits for special gatherings and in our Beauty Column, you'll find make-up tips for party-ready looks.

If you want to lock in the year with a golden key, I would recommend a pampering session. We end the year with an unforgettable spa and pool day at Talise Spa, Jumeriah Gulf of Bahrain – the perfect place to disconnect from routine and connect with yourself. They have unmissable offers for you and your girlfriends.

Celebrate the last day of the year in style. We've rounded up a few destinations that offer unique ways to ring in the New Year – places to be added to your bucket list!

Good food for me is something that immediately improves my mood and makes me happy. We embarked on a journey through Italian flavours at Scalini, Royal Saray Resort.

The last motoring experience of 2025 was behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz E 200, showcasing its high performance and refinement.

This month, we also bring the coverage of memorable events such as the Royal Bahrain Concours, Jewellery and Scent Arabia and the party of the year: the Fact Dining Awards Bahrain 2025. Enjoy the festive season, be merry and embrace all the possibilities the brand-new year has in store for you.

GLAM APPEAL

Any stylish and flamboyant look uses gold as its key element. We have a thing or two for pairing this metallic shade with black to elevate it to the highest level of sophistication. Embrace the party season with confidence!

is all about classic pieces with a twist. The large golden belt makes a plain black dress stand out in the crowd. Ladylike much?

Ballerinas have been the it-footwear for a while, and Givenchy caught the wave by painting its creation in stunning mirrored gold – say plié in style.

and beads for an embellished accessory that can add an edgy touch to your outfits.

If you are looking to steal the scene (and be the party’s queen), this feathery golden gown from Oscar de La Renta will seal the deal.

Coach is known for its playful style, even this sweater becomes an iconic piece painted in black and embellished with golden stars – a snazzy winter warmer. The tulle skirt adds whimsical flair, making it a great partywear piece.

PARTY READY

The end of the year calls for glamorous looks for the many gatherings the season brings. Opt for out-there outfits that make you stand out in the crowd, or go for stunning accessories that complement basic dresses. Spend the last month of 2025 looking fab!

SHINE BRIGHT

In ‘centre-of-attention’ mode, going for a total silver look will help you accomplish that. The metallic shade seems like a good choice for ringing in the New Year – a style to attract good vibes.

A TOUCH OF SPARKLE

Shiny add-ons transform plain cuts and basic pieces into eye-catching outfits. You can go for all-over glittery gems or a touch of light to embrace the holiday spirit.

This month’s roundup brings together fresh openings, limited-edition drops and inventive collaborations.

Fashion Has a New Address

Bahrain’s Marassi Galleria welcomes a new luxury boutique with the opening of ZIMMERMANN. Designed by long-term collaborator Studio McQualter, the space combines layered textures, materials and curated design elements to create an immersive retail environment. The façade features custom-made tiles and bronzed brass ribbing, while two display windows showcase artistic compositions of mannequins, vintage furniture and commissioned artworks. Inside, a full-height art piece greets visitors against whitepainted walls and custom terrazzo tiles. The artwork curations reflect the brand’s ongoing engagement with Australian and international artists. Ready-to-wear (RTW) pieces are presented in polished wardrobes with coloured wallpaper interiors, while accessories are displayed at a dedicated table. The boutique also includes a lounge area with terrazzopatterned flooring and a hand-woven emerald rug, furnished with Le Corbusier and Guillerme et Chambron seating. The store located on the first floor opens with the Cruise RTW 26 Collection.

Plush and Chic

Just in time for the festive season, BOSS and Steiff (a German company founded in 1880, known for producing high-quality, collectable stuffed animals) have come together for a playful holiday capsule that blends cosy style with German craftsmanship. The BOSS x Steiff collection features men’s, women’s and kids’ apparel in warm tones of cream and brown, including teddy-textured coats, hoodies, jackets, hats, mittens, soft shirts, sweatshirts and socks. BOSS accessories and shoes, like the Ariell bag and Gary sneakers, are reimagined with plush trims for a luxurious look. The collaboration also introduces new takes on Steiff’s signature teddy bear: a cream plush bear, a brown mohair collector’s bear and a black mohair XP member-exclusive bear, alongside teddy bear charms in black and brown. The capsule is featured in the BOSS Holiday 2025 campaign, starring TikToker Khaby Lame and model Amelia Gray. It is narrated by singer Khalid and supported by immersive social activations on Meta and Snapchat, including AI-created content and a Bitmoji collection.

Mirrored Magic

Maison Margiela launches the Tabi Collector’s series with its first edition: the Tabi Broken Mirror Embroidery. Limited to 25 pairs worldwide, the series reenvisions the house’s most popular shoe, Tabi, through innovative techniques and materials. For the first edition, a silver coating is applied to the leather before being fractured to reveal the layer beneath. Each shoe is then hand-embroidered with more than 8,000 glass beads, sequins and metallic fragments, laser-cut in varying shades to mimic the natural ageing of broken glass. Transparent beads interspersed throughout enhance depth and dimension, creating a three-dimensional, reflective effect. The Tabi, a Maison Margiela icon since 1988, is crafted by 11 dedicated artisans, preserving the shoe’s signature form and artisanal precision. The collection will be displayed in selected stores, accompanied by a film by Italian filmmaker Yuri Ancarani tracing the Tabi’s journey from concept to its final form.

Twice The Style

MINI and Paul Smith have introduced the new MINI Paul Smith Edition as the latest chapter in a long-running collaboration between the two British icons. Building on previous joint projects from 2021 and 2022, this edition brings Paul Smith’s ‘classic with a twist’ design language to the MINI Cooper 3-door, 5-door and Convertible. The exterior is defined by edition-exclusive colours, including Statement Grey and Inspired White, as well as Nottingham Green accents inspired by Paul’s hometown. Details such as the Signature Stripe on the roof, Black Blue MINI logos and 18-inch Night Spoke wheels reinforce the designer’s imprint. Inside, the British theme continues with knitted surfaces and Nightshade Blue sports seats. Subtle, playful touches like a handwritten ‘Hello’ light projection on the floor, an ‘Every day is a new beginning’ motto on the door sill and a hand-drawn rabbit on the floor mats complete the car’s interiors.

Two Decades of an Icon

Versace is marking 20 years of its DV ONE timepiece with an anniversary limited edition that revisits the watch’s origins while introducing archival details. First launched in 2005, the DV ONE became Versace’s defining timepiece, celebrated for its Swiss-made construction, high-tech ceramic case, strong silhouette and signature house codes, including the Medusa emblem and Greca motifs. The new DV ONE 20th Anniversary Edition draws on 1990s’ glamour through a black enamel dial decorated with a gold-tone 3D Barocco (baroque in Italian) pattern taken from the archive. A diamond-set crown and four additional diamonds on the indexes add to the piece’s refined detailing, while the case back reveals a black rotor engraved with the anniversary marking. Powered by a Swiss-made automatic movement and produced in black ceramic, the edition is limited to 240 pieces worldwide.

THE LUCKY CHARM

Van Cleef & Arpels expands the Alhambra universe with pieces that can be worn in multiple ways.

Since its creation in 1968, the Alhambra collection has stood as Van Cleef & Arpels’ emblem of luck, inspired by the four-leaf clover and its promise of good fortune. Over the decades, it has evolved while remaining true to its original motif, combining simplicity, craftsmanship and versatility. Now, the maison introduces a new chapter in this enduring story: transformable pieces that can be worn in multiple ways, making it both an aesthetic variation and a functional creation.

The Magic Alhambra transformable long necklaces extend the collection’s playfulness to design. First introduced in 2006, the Magic Alhambra signature uses asymmetrical motifs of varying sizes to create a sense of movement and dynamism. The new long necklaces incorporate detachable elements, allowing them to be worn as a full-length necklace, a shorter necklace or even a bracelet. Guilloché rose gold is paired with white and grey mother-ofpearl, while another version combines guilloché white gold with chalcedony and white mother-of-pearl. Each motif is carefully arranged to balance proportion, light reflection and the fall of the chain, with clasps discreetly hidden behind the neck.

Two Vintage Alhambra reversible rings add to the collection’s versatility, featuring a double beaded contour and reversible motifs. One presents grey mother-of-pearl on one side and a diamond set in rose gold on the other, while the second alternates chalcedony with a diamond set in white gold. Their design preserves the sparkle of the stones, with smooth rotation mechanisms and a graduated interior of golden beads ensuring comfort. The Sweet Alhambra watch, powered by a Swiss quartz movement, complements these pieces. A combination of guilloché white gold with chalcedony and diamond-set motifs, the design balances decorative detailing with legibility. Crafted with meticulous attention to materials and technique, these creations reflect the maison’s century-old expertise. Stones such as mother-of-pearl and chalcedony are selected for their colour, striations and luminosity, while each motif undergoes multiple steps of cutting, polishing and assembly before being set into the beaded gold mount. This dedication to precision echoes Van Cleef & Arpels’ long history of transformable jewellery, which dates back to the 1920s with clip systems and has since evolved through iconic Passe-Partout and Zip necklaces.

LIGHT IN MOTION

Pomellato reworks diamond pavé with varied stone sizes and cuts, offering new expressions of the Sabbia aesthetic.

Founded in Milan in 1967, Pomellato is known for its distinctive design language and craftsmanship carried out by more than 100 artisans at Casa Pomellato. The maison now expands its Sabbia collection with new pieces that continue to highlight its signature irregular pavé setting, a technique that places diamonds of varying sizes in natural, nonuniform arrangements, mimicking the way sand reflects light.

The latest designs introduce baguette-cut diamonds alongside brilliant-cut ones, adding a new geometric element to the ensemble. A key piece is the rose-gold lariat necklace. It features the recognisable Sabbia plate set with white diamonds, followed by a tail of baguette-cut stones and a cascading sequence of smaller plates. The adjustable sliding element is also diamond-set and allows the necklace to be worn at different lengths, either with the pendant positioned at the front or draped along the back.

The pendant earrings follow the same structure. The main Sabbia plate is extended with a line of baguette-cut diamonds and completed with a smaller plate, creating movement and a play between the two diamond cuts. The combination of irregular pavé and the warmth of rose gold results in surfaces where each stone reflects light differently.

Alongside these pieces, the brand also presents new High Jewellery creations that further develop the Sabbia aesthetic. These designs are crafted in white gold and combine baguette and brilliant-cut diamonds, set in two distinct settings: baguette diamonds are prong-set, while brilliant-cut stones are arranged in the signature irregular pavé technique. This creates contrasting textures and layers of reflected light.

The centrepiece High Jewellery necklace draws inspiration from the classic tennis necklace. Instead of a continuous linear arrangement, asymmetrically placed Sabbia plates in varying sizes form a flexible, lightweight structure that adapts to the shape of the neck. The accompanying earrings are presented as an asymmetric set, including one stud and two pendants, allowing for different styling options.

Pomellato continues to work exclusively with responsibly sourced gold and supports the continuation of Milanese goldsmithing traditions through training and craft preservation, a significant part of the maison’s identity.

FLOAT LIKE A FEATHER

For its 20th anniversary, CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel transforms feathers into intricate brooches.

CINDY CHAO The Art Jewel is a name revered among collectors for its sculptural, museum-quality creations, even if it remains less familiar to the wider public. The brand is a reflection of its founder Cindy Chao’s dual heritage: trained by her sculptor father and architect grandfather, she approaches jewellery with both a sculptor’s touch and an architect’s eye. Each piece begins as a hand-carved wax model, allowing her to explore movement, structure and light long before the first gemstone is set.

tsavorites, all set in titanium. The piece contains an astonishing 3,693 gemstones totalling 78.51 carats, each placed to follow the fluid curves of the twisted feather, creating a sense of motion and lightness.

The feather has emerged as one of her most defining signatures. Its journey began in 2016, when Cindy presented the Phoenix Feather Brooch at the Biennale des Antiquaires in Paris, inspired by the Belle Époque era, when feathers adorned fashion and interiors. That first piece later sold for USD1.21 million at Christie’s Hong Kong, cementing the motif’s place in her oeuvre.

Today, as the brand celebrates its 20th anniversary, Cindy revisits the feather with a series of brooches. One of them features a three-carat marquise fancy intense yellow diamond at its centre, surrounded by diamonds, yellow diamonds, greyish green sapphires, greyish blue sapphires and

Another brooch is built around a whopping eight-carat flame step cut fancy brown-yellow IF Type IIa diamond (known for its rarity and internal flawlessness). Accented with diamonds, tsavorites, greyish blue sapphires, greyish green sapphires and a colour-change sapphire, it comprises 4,015 gemstones and totals 76.3 carats. A third design centres on a four-carat marquise fancy brown-yellow diamond, yellow diamonds and brown diamonds, set in titanium and ox horn, with a total of 2,835 gemstones (73.91 carats). In each piece, the feathers appear suspended mid-air, twisting along a 180-degree arc, as if caught in a breeze.

Light in appearance, the brooches are made from titanium (one of the most challenging metals in jewellery), which allows volume but demands precision. The titanium form is set with cushion-cut diamonds and gemstones using a double-sided technique, with stones placed across and between layers to control depth and light, resulting in a jewel that feels alive.

TIME MEETS

POP ART

Piaget unveils the Andy Warhol Watch ‘Collage’ Limited Edition –an ode to the artist’s legacy.

In its 150 years of existence, Piaget has introduced numerous watch and jewellery collections inspired by the creative arts. The maison masterfully marries the delicate, often intangible beauty of artistic crafts with the brilliance of precision watchmaking.

Andy Warhol was one of the prominent names of the Pop Art movement. He was also an avid watch collector. By the time of his death in 1987, he had amassed a collection of more than 300 timepieces, including seven Piaget models. In 2024, Piaget began a relationship with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and has since deepened it with a capsule watch that transmits the artist’s singular creativity to the wrist. The Andy Warhol Watch ‘Collage’ Limited Edition features a dial adorned with a marqueterie of colourful ornamental gemstones arranged in an abstract form that echoes one of his most celebrated Polaroid selfportrait collages, taken in 1986. The watch’s stepped 45mm case is cast in 18-carat yellow gold, and only 50 examples will be made.

The maison’s artistic director, Stéphanie Sivrière, and her team immersed themselves in Andy Warhol’s work and the collaboration, travelling to New York City to view archives opened by the foundation, visit exhibitions and devour countless books dedicated to the pop artist’s vast catalogue. The two parties agreed that in this first year of the partnership, the focus should fall on colour, a wellknown feature of the artist’s portfolio. “We quickly learned that we wanted to express Andy Warhol, but without being obvious. To suggest, rather than to show. For its part, the foundation encouraged us to approach the project with freedom and to interpret his work in Piaget’s expressive, unbounded style. The result is a watch that tells the story of our collaboration, but that stands on its own as a piece of watchmaking art, a collectable inspired by one of history’s most prolific collectors,” said Stéphanie.

The dial motif of the Andy Warhol Watch ‘Collage’ Limited Edition comes to life with the careful application of four ornamental stones, shaped, cut and arranged using the ancient Métier d’Art of marquetry. The base, in black onyx, is complemented by thin slices of yellow Namibian serpentine, pink opal and green chrysoprase. These are surrounded by a stepped 45mm case crafted from 18-carat yellow gold and set on a green leather strap, a rich, mature colour chosen to add to the palette without distracting from the dial. The case back has a vertical satin finish. Inside the watch, Piaget has installed its in-house 501P1 self-winding mechanical calibre, a slimline power unit with a 40-hour power reserve decorated with circular Côtes de Genève stripes. This is overlaid with an engraved rendition of the Andy Warhol self-portrait on which the dial design is based, carrying Piaget’s logo and Andy Warhol’s signature – a wearable exclusive masterpiece.

A Multi-Sensorial Shift

Two new launches extend Valentino’s Born in Roma Donna perfume line.

With the growing interest in poly-sensorial beauty, products are increasingly expected to do more than simply scent or hydrate.

Valentino Beauty’s new Born in Roma Hair & Body line, taps directly into this demand, presenting fragrance as something that can be seen, felt and worn in multiple ways. The collection extends the Born in Roma Donna perfume into two formats that build a fuller, layered ritual.

The first addition, the Born in Roma Perfumed Body Shimmer, blends make-up, skincare and fragrance into a single step. Its formula is centred on the RomaLight Complex, which gives the skin a sparkling finish, while hyaluronic acid provides hydration. The shimmer is designed to offer an immediate visual effect supported by a long-lasting aroma, making it a straightforward way to add both glow and fragrance to the routine.

The second product, the Born in Roma Perfumed Hair & Body Mist, takes a lighter approach. Enriched with argan oil, it is intended to leave hair soft and luminous while delivering the signature scent in a more diffused form. The mist emphasises texture and weightlessness, offering an alternative way to wear fragrance beyond traditional application points. Both products share a cohesive visual identity – sleek black packaging accented with the line’s unmistakable pink, echoing the aesthetic of the eau de parfum. Rather than treating perfume as a final step, the new line positions it as part of a broader, tactile experience that can be adjusted and layered depending on preference.

Intelligent Skincare at Home

Bio-Performance Micro-Click Concentrate is Shiseido’s new precision treatment inspired by in-office procedures.

Long known for weaving scientific research with a distinctly Japanese approach to skincare, Shiseido has often focussed on treatments that work with the skin rather than overwhelm it. Its latest release, the BioPerformance Micro-Click Concentrate, follows that same line of thinking but introduces a more technical edge, one inspired by the precision of aesthetic procedures.

This is not a product that you smooth on and forget about. It arrives with an applicator fitted with 18 ultra-fine micropoints, each measuring around 20 microns. When pressed onto the skin, these tiny points are designed to create microscopic pathways, allowing the accompanying serum to be delivered more effectively into the upper layers of the skin. The brand explains that the motion also provides a form of mechanical stimulation, encouraging the skin’s natural renewal responses in a controlled, non-invasive way. A small doughnut-shaped guard sits at the base of each tip to ensure that pressure and depth remain consistent and gentle.

Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, is central to the formulation. It is known within the skincare world for its ability to strengthen the skin barrier, refine texture and contribute to improved firmness over time. Shiseido pairs this with a Barrier Fill Complex, which is meant to support the skin after the active ingredients have been absorbed. The treatment is designed to be used in two stages: first, an ‘intensive phase’ applied every two days over the course of 12 days, followed by a weekly ‘amplifying phase’ to maintain the effects. Shiseido’s own consumer studies claim that many participants reported improvements in the visibility of wrinkles, firmness and pore appearance. Though, as always, individual results vary. The MicroClick Concentrate is better suited to those who appreciate skincare with structure and precision, a little something to bridge the gap between daily routines and more invasive in-clinic treatments.

GLITZ AND GLOW!

For a night that calls for a touch of glamour, Bushra Hakim shares ideas to get you party-ready.

New Year’s Eve is the ultimate evening to experiment with your look. Whether your plans involve a glittering party, an intimate dinner or just a night out with friends, this is your moment to play with colour, texture and shine. With many different styles to choose from, here’s how to ensure your make-up and hair feel festive, polished and completely you.

SNOW BUNNY GLOW

This look is for anyone who loves the idea of winter, even if the weather outside says otherwise. The Snow Bunny aesthetic leans into cool tones and soft blush, giving the illusion of fresh air on your cheeks without the actual chill. Prep the skin to look smooth and bright, then use a lightreflective base for a gentle ‘icy’ sheen. Choose a cool pink blush and sweep it upwards across the cheeks for that fresh, outdoorsy flush. On the eyes, keep things frosted but soft: silvers, pale blues and opal shimmer that catch the light without looking metallic. Finish with lips in sheer pink or a rose tint, applied lightly so the edges stay soft.

RADIANT IN RED

If your celebrations are a bit more mature, then this is your colour palette. Dark shades of red, such as burgundy, berry, plum and soft maroon, all have a richness that feels instantly chic. They work well with everything, from sequins to sleek tailoring. The easiest way to wear this is through the eyes. Build depth using two or three similar tones: a medium shade as your base, a deeper colour in the crease and a hint of muted shimmer right in the centre of the lid. Keep everything blended to avoid stark lines. A soft berry blush ties the look together without overpowering it. For lips, choose a crimson stain for something relaxed or a deeper tone for full polish. Warm, sultry and perfect for late nights.

CHARLOTTE
TILBURY

MATTE SKIN ALL NIGHT LONG

Some events demand longevity, and New Year’s Eve always falls into that category. If you know you’ll be dancing, moving between gatherings or simply out until sunrise, matte skin is your best friend. Hydrate well, then use a smoothing, grip-focussed primer before applying your foundation in thin layers. Set the centre of the face and shine-prone areas, but leave the cheeks slightly softer for dimension. The result is long-wearing, photofriendly skin that stays flawless as the clock hits midnight and beyond.

WINTER BRONZE

A bronzed complexion isn’t just a summer fantasy. In winter, it becomes a chic alternative to the brighter, frostier looks of the season. Winter bronzing is subtle and refined, more for a sculpted look than a glow. Use a matte bronzer to add gentle definition along the cheekbones, temples and jawline. A little along the sides of the nose ties the warmth together. The goal is to add dimension and balance, especially if you’re wearing darker eye make-up or bold lips. Pair it with a minimal highlighter to keep the look sophisticated and not overly glossy. It’s flattering, modern and works beautifully with sleek hair or small jewellery.

MINIMAL GLAM

This look works best for dinners, house parties and last-minute invites. It’s polished without being loud, glowy without being glittery and intentional without requiring too much effort.

BEYOND ROUTINE INTO LIVING

WHEN FITNESS FITS YOUR LIFE, NOT THE WAY AROUND.

ENJOY THE PROCESS. LOVE THE CHANGE

Keep the skin luminous with a lightweight illuminator and focus on enhancing the lashes for instant definition. Eyeshadow should be subtle: taupes, browns, soft roses, anything that adds depth without drawing too much attention. Lips look best when kept natural and slightly blurred, using shades close to your natural lip tone. The appeal of soft glam is its simplicity. It looks like you, but elevated.

SMOKY EYES

No beauty list would be complete without the classic smoky eye. It’s dramatic, timeless and looks incredible under evening lighting. The trick to a great smoky eye is layering: start with a deeper tone close to the lash line, then blend upwards with softer shades. Greys, blacks, bronzes, midnight blues, all of them channelling the night sky mood. Keep the edges smooth, pack on mascara and go easy on the lips to keep the focus exactly where it should be. It’s sultry, impactful and always a crowd-pleaser.

FESTIVE HAIR

Finally, the finishing touch: hair. This is the easiest place to switch things up for New Year’s, and accessories do most of the work for you. A simple velvet ribbon tied around a ponytail or bun adds a neat, party-appropriate detail without being overdone. Tweed headbands, with or without rhinestones, are great for winter evenings and suit pretty much any hair texture or style. If you want something smaller, try a few star or moon pins placed through the lengths or at the base of an up-do; they catch the light just enough to make the style feel special. It’s an easy, elegant way to wrap things up.

CIHAN OGUZMETIN AT PEXELS

IN SEARCH OF REST

A visit to Talise Spa at Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain gave Bushra Hakim the chance to relax fully, with wellness therapies and scenic vistas.

There are days when you don’t actually need a holiday, you just need to drive somewhere far enough that you can pretend you’re on one. For me, that place is Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain. There’s something oddly therapeutic and meditative about the long stretch of road leading to the resort. This time, though, I had an actual agenda: Talise Spa’s newly launched massage and facial, and a day pass that promised pool, beach and freedom from adult responsibilities.

Driving through the resort’s gates, the landscape immediately felt different to the rest of the island. The arrival area, with its bright marble lobby, offers a grand and elegant welcome.

After a quick wander through, I made my way down to the spa, where Krizia at reception greeted me with cool towels and welcome drinks. A few minutes later, I met Ayşe, the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, who kindly walked me through the treatments and gave me a short tour of the property.

This was when I realised that Jumeirah Gulf of Bahrain is far bigger than it appears from the outside. The façade is intentionally understated as it hides an entire world behind it – one of the largest resort grounds on the island, in fact. There are about seven pools across the property, ranging from private and adults-only options to family-friendly ones. The sustainable resort desalinates the seawater for the canals that wind through its grounds, where one can take complimentary rides on an abra (traditional boat). The beach, however, is one of my favourite highlights. Stretching out with pristine white sand, calm waters and sunbeds lining the shore, it has the kind of atmosphere that instantly encourages you to slow down.

Back at the spa, I was introduced to Yulandari, the Head Therapist, who would be taking care of me. She showed me the women’s facilities: a traditional Turkish Hammam, an indoor gym, an indoor pool, steam and sauna rooms, as well as showers, lockers and a dressing area. Everything is set up to allow you to take your time and unwind before and after your treatments. We then moved to the treatment room where I changed into a plush robe, the unofficial signal that the day had finally begun.

The journey started with a foot bath of warm water filled with frangipani flowers and slices of lemon. The scent was delicate and soothing. A gentle salt scrub softened my feet, preparing my body for the relaxation ahead. Once settled on the massage bed, we moved on to what I had been most curious about: The Grounding Ritual, a massage created specifically to ease anxiety and stress. The spa recently introduced GROUND, a vegan wellness line that focusses on natural blends; for this ritual, the oil combines frankincense and rosemary.

Before starting, Yulandari asked about specific areas of tension and the preferred level of pressure. I’d done a rather ambitious yoga session the day before, so the list of sore areas was quite extensive. The ritual began with a dry massage and a deep inhale of a blend of frankincense, rosemary and mandarin. Instead of the usual top-to-bottom flow, the massage was divided by the left and right sides of the body. Long strokes shifted into kneading and circular motions, moving in a rhythm that felt both structured and deeply soothing. The fragrance of the oil was warm and earthy; within minutes, my mind had switched off.

Lying on my back, I noticed the treatment room’s star-lit ceiling – tiny lights twinkling softly, reminiscent of those often found on an Emirates A380 or in a Rolls-Royce. They shimmered gently to the soft hum of the music, setting the mood for complete surrender. Before moving on to the rest of my body, a scalp massage was performed using a rosemary and clay oil blend. The focus was solely on the scalp, avoiding the heaviness that can sometimes come with full-head oil treatments. After that came the rest of the body, methodically worked through until I felt the tightness easing away.

The next part of my visit was the Biome Facial, developed to strengthen and soothe the skin barrier, ideal for someone like me whose skin reacts to almost anything. This was unlike the typical facials I’ve had over the years. There were no extractions, no harsh tools, just a focus on technique, lymphatic movement and calming of the skin.

Yulandari began by removing my make-up with the Biome Cleansing Oil, then gently massaging the Restorative Cleansing Balm across my face, neck and décolleté. Her pressure was perfect, firm enough to stimulate but soft enough to relax. A lactic-acid Biome Cleansing Gel Mask was applied next to lightly exfoliate without causing irritation.

The facial incorporated a gua sha routine using a Mookaite stone sourced from Australia. Before use, the stone was kept in an ice bath, giving it a soothing coolness as it glided across my skin. The motions were soft and controlled, releasing facial tension and encouraging microcirculation. The same technique was also extended to the scalp.

It was followed by a longer massage using the Biome Overnight Repair Oil, lifting the skin upwards and working through areas that tend to sag or hold stress, especially around the jaw and cheekbones. She also worked my neck thoroughly, tilting it gently towards each shoulder to encourage blood flow. Warm gloves were used to remove the oil, followed by a misting of Biome Plant Water. The session finished with the Biome Repair Serum and Cream. Warm towels were used to gently wipe away residue from my hands and feet, preventing any sticky feeling afterwards. My skin felt noticeably calmer, hydrated and balanced without the post-facial tingling I usually experience.

At the relaxation area, Yulandari offered me a trail mix and a deep blue tea that is made from blue pea flowers. After all the pampering, I was naturally hungry, so this little break felt very necessary. I let the oils sink in for a few more minutes before heading for a shower. With the whole place to explore, I wasn’t about to skip the facilities. The indoor pool, with all its privacy, was first on my list. Crowd-free, warm and ideal for a slow float. The afternoon sun outside was too inviting to ignore, so I eventually made my way towards the beach to enjoy the rest of the day. The sea breeze was cool, the sun was about an hour away from setting and it created the ideal backdrop for a quiet read. I ordered a peach iced tea, settled onto a sunbed and let the moment take over. With the water sounds in the background and the light turning golden, I thought - If this isn’t the good life, I don’t know what is.

Elevating Aesthetic WELLNESS IN BAHRAIN

This month, OHLALA spoke to Sija Kurian, CEO of LIVA Skin and Sculpt Clinic, about her wellness space and the aesthetic scene in the Kingdom.

OHLALA – You have a background in international business. How did you choose to work with beauty? What do you like most about this universe?

Sija Kurian – While my academic background is in international business, I’ve always been drawn to industries where creativity, innovation and personal impact intersect. The beauty and wellness sector fascinated me because it’s not just about products or services – it’s about empowering people to feel confident and embrace their best selves. What I love most about this universe is that it’s the perfect amalgamation of art and science. Every treatment at LIVA Skin and Sculpt Clinic blends advanced technology with personalised, human expertise. I enjoy being part of a journey that transforms not just appearances but also confidence and self-esteem. Combining my business expertise with this creative, transformative field has allowed me to innovate while making a tangible, positive difference in people’s lives.

OHLALA– Tell us more about LIVA Skin and Sculp Clinic. What is the concept and mission behind it?

Sija – Established in 2024, LIVA Skin and Sculpt Clinic was created to redefine luxury in aesthetics and wellness in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Located in the heart of Manama, we bring together a handpicked team of world-class doctors, cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art equipment to deliver the most advanced, bespoke therapies and transformative personalised treatments. We are committed to introducing new concepts and pioneering approaches in this field in the country – continually raising the standards of innovation, safety and excellence. Our mission is to enhance natural beauty through science, artistry and compassion, ensuring every client’s experience is rooted in care, confidence and well-being.

OHLALA – What are the main treatments the clinic offers? Can you highlight some of them?

Sija – At LIVA, the world of aesthetics meets cutting-edge innovation. The clinic offers a curated blend of non-surgical and surgical treatments designed to rejuvenate the face, body and hair with precision and artistry. On the non-surgical front, LIVA offers Botox, fillers, a wide range of skin boosters for all skin types and concerns, whitening peptides, biostimulators, custom fat-melting injections, anti-cellulite solutions, exosomes, PRP and medical-grade chemical peels. But what truly elevates the experience is the clinic’s investment in next-generation technology such as Hydrafacial MD; 360-degree skin analysis camera; ResurFX a non-ablative fractional laser; Nanopore microneedling, a Swiss-engineered device that boosts collagen production and refines texture; Splendour X laser hair removal; and, for redcarpet radiance, Morpheus8, the celebrity-favourite treatment that combines radiofrequency with microneedling to sculpt, tighten and make skin look more youthful. On the surgical side, LIVA offers a refined portfolio of plastic surgery procedures, including liposuction, tummy tucks, breast lifts, augmentation, reconstruction, facelifts and more – each performed with an emphasis on safety, harmony and natural-looking results. Most recently, the clinic unveiled its minor operations theatre, tailored for swift, minimally invasive enhancements such as blepharoplasty, fat grafting and chin liposuction. These procedures can be done without general anaesthesia or hospital admission, offering a cost-effective experience with minimal downtime – perfect for the modern patient who values efficiency without compromising on excellence.

OHLALA– Feeling good and attractive is very important for self-esteem. How do you see the role of aesthetic treatments in helping women feel better about themselves?

Sija – When women feel good about themselves, it truly changes the way they

“When women feel good about themselves, it truly changes the way they experience life.”

experience life. Aesthetic treatments can be a meaningful way to support that, as long as they are approached thoughtfully and ethically. At LIVA, we focus on enhancing natural beauty, making clients feel confident and cared for, thereby strengthening self-esteem and overall well-being.

OHLALA – What would be your advice for those looking for cosmetic solutions for the first time?

Sija – Trying cosmetic treatments for the first time can feel overwhelming, so my advice is to take the time to understand your goals and priorities. It’s essential to approach them with realistic expectations and not mindlessly follow trends. Start with education and consultation with trusted clinics. It’s also important to remember that cosmetic therapies, much like fitness, require consistency. You may not see full results after a single session. To achieve and maintain the best outcome, you need to complete the recommended treatment plan – similar to how you wouldn’t expect a gym transformation after just one workout. Commitment to the process is key.

OHLALA – In your opinion, what is the key to achieving success in this business?

Sija – Success in the beauty and wellness industry comes from a thoughtful blend of passion, integrity and innovative learning. It’s never just about offering treatments – it’s about building trust, truly understanding your clients’ needs and delivering personalised care with consistency and excellence. Staying ahead with the latest technologies, techniques and global knowledge ensures that your services remain effective, relevant and future-focused.

OHLALA – How do you see the beauty field, more specifically, the cosmetic scene in Bahrain?

Sija – I see the aesthetic and wellness landscape in Bahrain at an exciting inflexion point. Demand is rising rapidly and non-invasive treatments – such as skin boosters, biostimulators and advanced resurfacing and rejuvenation procedures – are becoming increasingly mainstream. People are far more informed today, and there’s a growing willingness to invest in long-term wellness rather than temporary fixes. At the same time, the market faces challenges. Unfortunately, some providers cut corners by using diluted or lower-quality products or opting for cheaper alternatives to reduce costs, which creates unhealthy pricing competition and confusion among patients. They often compare costs without realising that premium-quality, fullquantity and genuine products naturally come at a higher, but justified, price. At LIVA, when patients pay for a treatment, they receive the full benefit: the best-quality products on the market, full dosages and expert care. In essence, they get true value for their money, not a compromised version of a treatment.

Graceful DESIGNS

To embrace our festive issue, celebrating the last month of the year, we chose a brand that creates stunning evening gowns. Ziad Nakad’s Harmony collection brings elegant dresses for special occasions – an ode to sparkles and red-carpetready numbers.

Inspired by musical compositions, powerful overtures giving way to gentle crescendos, Ziad Nakad’s Harmony capsule unites colours and textures to create stunning works that blend fashion and art harmoniously. The creations involve finely crafted dresses in hand-embroidered muslin, tulle and crepe for lavish flair. Subtle fur details enhance selected designs, boosting sophisticated warmth without sacrificing the pieces’ airy feel. Stylish gowns feature high necklines, dramatic puffed and cape-style sleeves that emphasise fluid movement. Some designs incorporate feathers or delicate flowers for a touch of panache, while belts cinch the waist, accentuating the feminine form. With an array of deep and delicate shades, the palette ranges from green and light blue hues, transitioning smoothly into navy with silver and gold accents. This season, the brand introduces burgundy for richness and warmth with touches of purple. Timeless black-and-white adds an edgy element while pink shades express femininity. Like a symphony, each item from the Harmony collection complements the other for a stunning visual unity. It celebrates a balance between power and softness, luxury and fluidity, resulting in elegance and beauty.

Salman

Every city has its own way of saying goodbye to the year. Some turn it into a performance, others wrap it in ritual, while only a few manage to make the whole night feel deeply personal despite the crowds. These four destinations approach NYE so distinctly that choosing one becomes less about where to travel and more about the kind of night you want to remember before the clock strikes 12.

DUBAI, UAE

One cannot speak of New Year’s Eve without mentioning Dubai, a city that treats the night as a curated experience. The Burj Khalifa fireworks and countdown remain the centrepiece, drawing droves to Downtown esplanade and filling restaurants like At.mosphere and Cé La Vi for the perfect view. On the coast, the Palm Jumeirah runs its own display, which many people watch from beachfront spots at Atlantis The Palm or from the lounges at Palm Jumeirah Mall.

JBR takes on a livelier atmosphere with open-air concerts, drone shows and family-friendly entertainment along the promenade. Charter a yacht at the marina or New Year’s Eve cruises on Dubai Creek, where traditional dhows serve dinner as they sail past the skyline. For a quieter and more conventional alternative, head to the desert where boutique desert camps offer barbecues, fire performances and a calmer moment under the stars, far from the city’s crowds.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL

If there’s one place where this particular day feels emotional rather than just festive, it’s Rio. Copacabana Beach becomes the epicentre of Réveillon, as millions dressed in white gather to symbolise peace and renewal. Music spills from every corner: samba groups, drummers, people dancing on the sand as if the entire beach is a big party floor. But the most beautiful moments happen quietly. Just after midnight, cariocas (the natives of Rio de Janeiro) make their way to the water with flowers for Iemanjá, the Afro-Brazilian goddess of the sea. Roses, orchids, small candles and handwritten notes are set afloat on the waves, a gesture that’s part prayer, part gratitude, part hope. Watching locals wade in with their offerings while fireworks fade behind them gives the night a sincerity that no rooftop bar can replicate. However, Rio has many hot spots, Bar do Copa being a favourite for those wanting the view without the crush of the crowd.

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZILRIPIO TURISMO

ROME, ITALY

Rome’s NYE is built around the table. The night starts with cenone, the traditional feast of the season, with silky lentils for good fortune, rich cotechino sausages and endless courses that stretch well into the evening. Restaurants like Roscioli, La Pergola or Il Gabriello turn the meal into an occasion, and for many Italians, this dinner matters more than the countdown itself.

When midnight arrives, the city empties into its piazzas. Piazza del Popolo and Circus Maximus host concerts, fireworks echo across the rooftops and bottles are opened everywhere, even in the middle of the quiet alleyways. Trastevere is especially atmospheric, its narrow lanes filled with neighbourhood gatherings, balcony music and families celebrating in that effortless, unpolished Roman way. This city does not try to compete with cities known for pyrotechnics; it gives you a night that feels lived-in, warm and wonderfully human.

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

If you want to be one of the first to ring in January, Sydney is your city. By late afternoon, locals and visitors are already spread across the harbour’s parks and headlands such as Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, Bradfield Park, Barangaroo Reserve (a total of 48 official vantage points), settling in with picnic blankets as if preparing for a summer concert. Before the fireworks begin, the city pauses for an Indigenous Welcome to Country ceremony, a grounding reminder of whose land the celebrations sit on. Then the harbour transforms. Boats drift into position like floating lanterns, restaurants along Circular Quay fill with long dinners, and the Opera House seems to glow a little brighter as midnight approaches. When the countdown finally arrives, the Harbour Bridge erupts into a cascade of colour that arcs over the water, a display so meticulously choreographed that it feels more like an entire performance.

ITALIAN CUISINE WITH COASTAL VIBES

Scalini offers a menu that celebrates the flavours from this Mediterrenean country and Apple Sharma headed there to try them out.

Ialian cuisine is one of the most popular in the world, and while our little island has plenty of restaurants serving it, few capture the quintessential charm of the Amalfi Coast quite like Scalini. Set within the elegant grounds of the Royal Saray Resort, the restaurant’s authentic flavours and relaxed setting made it an ideal spot for a leisurely lunch with my friend.

There’s an instant sense of ease the moment you enter, from the chic yet welcoming atmosphere to the warm reception from the staff – in our case Floor Manager Kumar Thapa and the lovely waitress Susan, who both looked after us throughout.

The Amalfi-inspired hues of azure blue seating and crisp white tablecloths immediately transport you to a sophisticated coastal trattoria. The venue feels intimate and calm, with a low, square coffered ceiling in pristine white, matching chandeliers and cerulean walls adorned with watercolour scenes of Italy. Offering a sophisticated yet cosy ambience, the restaurant features a well-stocked bar in one corner, a small bookshelf in another, marbled pillars and gold-framed artworks on nearly every wall. Overlooking a small terrace, we took our seats opposite a small stage where a live Italian duo performs each evening.

As a breadbasket appeared on the table, we turned our attention to the menu. We began by sampling the bread – sliced, rolls and soft focaccia – smothered in black olive pâté and chopped tomatoes for a taste of the Mediterranean. We were recommended a choice of the signature mocktails: The Scalini Sunset – combining strawberry, lychee, apple and lime – was tangy and refreshing, while the Fior di Mandorle, made with passion fruit, coconut and almond, had a tropical sweetness.

Our appetites suitably whetted, we started our culinary escapade with the Antipasti – first to arrive was homemade Arancini. These lovely little golden bite-sized risotto rice balls stuffed with tomato sauce and stringy mozzarella were my absolute favourite. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, they were surprisingly light and made for the perfect starter. Next came the Gamberoni al Limone – king prawns cooked in a spicy garlic and lemon butter sauce, garnished with dill. The juicy, tender prawns, with just the right amount of kick from the chilli, were soaked in a delicious, slightly tangy sauce that demanded to be mopped up with bread, which of course we did.

From the salads, the signature Mista Scalini stood out. A colourful mix of greens and seasonal vegetables was lifted by zesty segments of orange and grapefruit that brought a burst of freshness. The citrusy-sweet flavours paired beautifully with the earthiness of thinly sliced beetroot medallions stuffed with creamy cheese, reminiscent of ravioli – a lovely surprise. Chopped nuts added a satisfying crunch to this delightful dish. No Italian meal feels complete without pizza, and the Vegetariana was spot-on. Its thin crust, topped with perfectly grilled courgettes, broccoli and bell peppers, looked scrumptiously inviting with its summery colours and tasted just as good, especially with a drizzle of chilli oil. For mains, we moved on to the Trancio di Salmone – grilled Scottish salmon served in a silky lemon butter sauce. The fish was tender and flaky, beautifully presented on a lemon-patterned plate that echoed the dish’s zest. Accompanying it was a large, deliciously crunchy shrimp tempura and crispy confit potatoes with plump, skinned tomatoes perched like cherries on top – all tied together beautifully with the citrusy sauce. The Ravioli Alla Bolognese followed – homemade parcels filled with a hearty meat sauce. Rustic and warm, each bite carried the comforting depth of slow-cooked Bolognese, perfectly balanced with the soft pasta.

I was ecstatic when the next dish arrived – Gnocchi Al Pesto – one of my favourite combinations. Soft potato dumplings coated in creamy, aromatic pesto – what’s not to love? Topped with cherry tomatoes for added sweetness, it was a comforting dish that I could go back to again and again. For something heartier, the Controfiletto Di Manzo – carved prime Australian striploin with roasted baby potatoes and broccolini – was another hit. The melt-in-the-mouth meat, paired with a mild peppercorn sauce, was subtle and sophisticated. Simple but very well executed, it needed no embellishment.

By this point, we were almost full but who can resist dessert? And what arrived next was a showstopper: a beautiful platter complete with smoky dry ice theatrics. Presented this way for special occasions or large groups, this was a real treat as we got to sample several of Scalini’s signature sweets – a decadent chocolate cake with a biscuity, mousse-like interior; a classic tiramisu with silky mascarpone; the restaurant’s famous Crème Brûlée with a crispy white chocolate topping and red berries (my personal favourite); and the Homemade Artisanal Gelato. Served with mini macarons, the gelato came in seven flavours – rose, chocolate, vanilla, pistachio, coffee, lotus and coconut – each one rich, creamy and ever so moreish.

As I finished the last spoonful, I thought how perfectly Scalini captures the ease of Italian dining – honest food, warm service and an atmosphere that makes you slow down. Whether for a leisurely lunch or an intimate dinner, Scalini is well worth a visit.

STYLE POWERED BY ENGINE SOUNDS

The first edition of the Royal Bahrain Concours took place on the island and OHLALA headed there to take a look at this sophisticated event which brought together love for cars, stunning design and beautiful people in their best frocks.

When it comes to luxury, OHLALA feels at home, and if it involves some motoring, we find a way to talk about it. Last month, the Kingdom of Bahrain held the first Royal Bahrain Concours event at the Royal Golf Club in Riffa. Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, the automotive event brought together over 70 of the world’s rarest automobiles, joined by 300 club vehicles from across the GCC. The impressive display included pre-war masterpieces, legendary race cars and cutting-edge hypercars. The two-day event distributed special awards in different categories: Best of Show, Crown Prince Award, Pre-1940, American Class, British Classics, European Classics, Sports & Race Classics, Modern Classics, Flat Tops, Supercars, Hypercars, Steering Committee Award, AirX Award, Restomod/ Modified, 30 Under 30 and 4x4 Award.

We highlight some of the winners. The Best of Show went to the 1972 Lamborghini Miura SV, ‘Shah of Iran’, owned by Dr Khalid M. Abdulrahim (Bahrain). Originally ordered new in 1971 through the Iranian Embassy in Rome for Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the final Shah of Iran, in Bleu Ischia Metallizzato with white leather. After the 1979 Revolution, it disappeared for 12 years before reappearing in Italy, where it was restored in the 1990s and purchased by the current owner in 2009.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG One, owned by HRH Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud (Saudi Arabia), won the Hypercars award. The vehicle has Formula 1 technology adapted for the road, one of just 275 built worldwide. The Modern Classics was awarded to the 2006 Pagani Zonda F Clubsport, owned by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa (Bahrain). The car, handbuilt in Modena with only 25 coupés made, features a naturally aspirated 7.3-litre Mercedes-AMG V12 producing 650hp through a six-speed manual gearbox, achieving 1,230kg dry weight using carbon-titanium composites.

The Sports & Race Classics was given to the 1959 Ferrari 250 TR, owned by Michael and Barbara Malone (USA), it began as a 1956 Ferrari 290 MM, later upgraded to a 3-litre V12 Testa Rossa and re-bodied by Scaglietti. It raced for Scuderia Ferrari and Equipe Nationale Belge before racing in Brazil until 1962. Acquired by Michael Malone in 2003, it underwent a multi-year restoration by Neil Twyman, returning it to exact 250 Testa Rossa specification with a verified-matching engine and transaxle.

The Royal Bahrain Concours was organised by Thorough Events in collaboration with the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA). Besides stunning automobiles displayed on the pristine green grass and hills, guests enjoyed dining at stalls provided by well-known gourmet destinations across the country, offering everything from Japanese to Mexican dishes.

Bahrain Jewellery Centre showcased some of its beautiful gems and live entertainment took place throughout the days. The posh event ended, leaving us with a taste of class that mesmerised even those who are not car enthusiasts. We look forward to the second edition next year.

A MODERN CLASSIC

OHLALA SLIPPED BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THE MERCEDES-BENZ E 200 TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CLASSIC REFINEMENT MEETS MODERN AMBITION.

There’s something reassuring about a Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Like a favourite designer handbag, it never tries too hard – it just quietly reminds you why you chose it. So when the new E 200 Saloon arrived for our test drive, we knew we weren’t merely meeting another executive saloon; we were being reintroduced to a classic reinvented for a new era.

From its sculpted lines to its digital intelligence, this generation promised elegance with an edge – refined for the modern world. We were eager to see if it could deliver that blend of comfort, confidence and unmistakable sophistication that Mercedes-Benz embodies.

EFFORTLESSLY ELEGANT

Our first impressions were unanimous – the E 200 carries itself with such poise that we found ourselves standing a little straighter just looking at it. Every surface reflects Mercedes-Benz's attention to proportion – elegant rather than loud, with a confident sense of balance that draws the eye naturally along its profile.

The front end sets the tone: a wide grille crowned by the illuminated three-pointed star, flanked by Digital Light headlamps that effortlessly reveal the road ahead. The AMG Line exterior sharpens the silhouette – sculpted bumpers, clean lines and 20-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels complete its runway-ready stance. At the rear, slim LED lamps and twin chrome tailpipes complete the look. It’s modern without trying too hard –composed, confident and camera-ready from every angle.

A MODERN SANCTUARY

Inside, the E 200 greeted us with an instantly lavish feel. Tonka-brown ARTICO leather wrapped the seats, dashboard and doors so beautifully we started questioning every design choice in our own living rooms. Pianoblack trim and open-pore ash wood added contrast, while ambient lighting – all 64 shades – let us match the cabin to our mood and even our nail polish. The AMG Line interior refined the atmosphere with a Nappa-leather steering wheel, elegant stitching and comfort seats that remembered every preference. Above, the panoramic sunroof filled the space with natural light, highlighting craftsmanship in every curve. The result is a cabin that feels indulgent yet practical – a place that blends comfort with a quiet sense of privilege.

TECH WITH TASTE

Mercedes-Benz calls it the MBUX Superscreen, and the name fits. A sweeping glass panel stretches across the dash, merging a 12.3-inch display with an OLED passenger screen and a built-in selfie camera that feels distinctly futuristic.

“The E 200 carries itself with such poise that we found ourselves standing a little straighter just looking at it.”

The Burmester surround-sound system gave our playlist concert-level clarity, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connected wirelessly and instantly. The head-up display projected key data onto the windscreen and MBUX Augmented-Reality navigation overlaid directions onto live street views – the kind of innovation that makes regular sat-nav feel prehistoric. The best part? Everything just worked so smoothly that we stopped testing it and simply started enjoying it.

PERFORMANCE WITH PURPOSE

Once on the move, the E 200 revealed its true nature: smooth, composed and quicker than its calm demeanour suggests. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with EQ Boost delivered 204hp so seamlessly that we almost missed the switch between electric and petrol power. It reached 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and, at our private test site, continued to 240km/h – always calm, stable and impressively quiet.

The 9G-TRONIC gearbox moved through its gears like a choreographed dance, precise and unhurried, making city driving effortless. Out on the highway, it glided with balance and refinement. The mild-hybrid system smoothed every start and added a gentle push when needed – proof that performance can be both intelligent and indulgent.

SAFETY IN MOTION

Safety has always been a Mercedes-Benz strength, and the E 200 continues that legacy. Systems like Active Distance Assist Distronic, Blind Spot Assist, Attention Assist and Collision Prevention Assist Plus kept a watchful eye while we focused on the drive. The 360-Degree Parking Package proved its worth when Active Parking Assist guided us neatly into a café space barely wider than the mirrors on the first try, no fluster.

The Agility Control suspension balanced comfort with precision, keeping the car composed over bumps and around bends. Add Pedestrian Protection, Tyre Pressure Monitoring and auto-dimming mirrors and it felt as if the vehicle anticipated trouble before we even noticed it.

PARTING IMPRESSIONS

After a full day behind the wheel, the E 200 left us impressed and a little reluctant to hand back the keys. It reminded us why Mercedes-Benz remains the benchmark for effortless grace. The AMG Line styling, mildhybrid refinement and sense of poise in every detail make this saloon feel familiar yet refreshingly new.

For those who appreciate luxury expressed through craftsmanship rather than extravagance, the E 200 defines understated excellence. It fits seamlessly into daily life, turning routine drives into moments that feel considered and calm. By the time we parked it for the last time, one thing was clear: this isn’t just a car that performs beautifully, it’s one that feels perfectly in tune with its driver.

WORD ON THE STREET

Shoppers have gone into a complete festive frenzy!

Find out what’s causing all the hype with Miss Ohlala

As if fashion didn’t already test our limits, Prada is now selling a crocheted safety-pin brooch for around USD775, basically a craft-drawer relic elevated to luxury status. Social media’s verdict? A collective eye-roll. Crocheters claim they could make it in five minutes, while others call it ‘performance art for people with too much money.’ What are your thoughts?

KIKO Milano has unexpectedly taken over December makeup thanks to its Snow-Kissed Sparkly Peaks Lipstick. The frosted embossing, soft shimmer and not-too-metallic finish have made it a favourite on TikTok, with the lipstick being sold out almost everywhere. It’s affordable, cute and genuinely wearable, unlike some holiday releases that look better in the box than on your face.

are having their moment and for all the right reasons. The relaxed leg paired with adjustable waist tabs has solved the age-old dilemma of waist gap vs. comfort – social media has declared them the new easy denim. They’re structured enough to look intentional, slouchy enough to feel lived-in, yet extremely flattering on just about everyone.

The annual Advent Calendar scramble has officially begun. Harrods’ three beauty calendars are already gone, along with Selfridges’, Liberty’s and Cult Beauty’s sell-out boxes, all before December. The good news? Harvey Nichols and Charlotte Tilbury still have their 2025 editions in stock… for now. If there’s a brand you’re eyeing, this is your last chance before they vanish, too.
