Gongmatic brings immersive sound experiences to spas

Gongmatic blends ancient instruments with technology

Featuring in Hagastrand, a new Nordic destination for wellness and social connection in Stockholm, Sweden, Gongmatic is a unique self-playing installation that combines ancient gongs with modern technology to create an immersive sound and light experience.

The project was developed by Grotta Sonora – an Italian instrument studio located inside a 3,000-year-old volcanic cave in Italy – alongside programmer and sound explorer Simon Morris.

Gongmatic is a resonating art piece that uses hand-tuned gongs and custom-built resonance technology to generate deeply immersive soundscapes without human touch or speakers.

Each gong is tuned to a natural resonant frequency and activated using custom-built technology in real time, producing sustained, layered, evolving tones that move through the room.

“This is for people who don’t have time to slow down, but need to,” says co-creator Margherita Cioffi. “Walk in, lie down and let the sound do the rest.”

The brand’s first installation outside Italy, at Hagastrand, features in a room with ceramic loungers by Sommerhuber.

“Hagastrand is a place for slowing down, finding tranquillity and indulging in a wellness journey beyond the ordinary, so the Gongmatic installation is a perfect addition,” says Alla Sokolova, head of wellness at Nobis Hospitality Group, which is developing Hagastrand.

“It is humbling to work with such an amazing, diverse and talented team to bring this sacred space to life.” www.gongmatic.com
