FOCUS ON Blepharoplasty
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) removes excess skin around the eyes. On the upper eyelid this can cause a ‘hooded’ appearance. Surgery tightens the supportive structures which naturally lose elasticity with age to achieve a more alert and youthful appearance. It is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic procedures.
Why is it so popular?
• The results are permanent
• The results are subtle and scars can be hidden in the folds of the eye
• It can boost self confidence as it is very difficult to disguise sagging, protruding fat pads, folds and deep lines

July issue highlights
As we near the end of term, everything switches gear. Summer plans are gaining force, and things are happening outdoors. We're eating outside, watching films outside and going to concerts outside, so in this issue we have lots of ideas for all of these things. Our festival guide highlights events of all kinds, taking in music, wellness, food, circus skills and more. And further afield than London, we look at camping spots across the UK as well as luxe destinations in the Balearics and holidays for Lego fans in Denmark. It's an eclectic mix this month, but we're still on top of interiors trends, beauty news and fashion – plus we have an extended Mama section, focusing on summer with the tinies. Enjoy July.

V&A Storehouse has opened following 10 years of planning and extensive audience consultation. Designed by world-renowned architects Diller, Scofidio + Renfro, it opens as part of East Bank, the new cultural quarter in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
It’s a ground-breaking new museum experience spanning four levels, and at 16,000m2 – bigger than 30+ basketball courts – it takes over a large section of the former London 2012 Olympics Media and Broadcast Centre (now Here East). It is a new purpose-built home for over 250,000 objects, 350,000 books and 1,000 Archives.
A world-first in size, scale and ambition, and new source of inspiration for all, V&A East Storehouse immerses visitors in over half a million works spanning every creative discipline from fashion to theatre, streetwear to sculpture, design icons to pop pioneers. A busy and dynamic working museum store with an extensive self-guided experience, visitors can now get up-close to national collections on a scale and in ways not possible before.
Tim Reeve, Deputy Director and COO, V&A, who developed the concept for V&A East Storehouse, said: “V&A East Storehouse is a completely new cultural experience and backstage pass to the V&A, transforming how people can access their national collections on a scale unimaginable until now. From conservation and how we care for our collections and cultural heritage around the world, to the artistry of our Museum Technicians and new research – there’s so much to discover.”
Through the V&A’s radical new Order an Object service, anyone can now book to access any object at V&A East Storehouse, for free, seven-days-a-week. From Mid- Century furniture to ancient Egyptian shoes and Roman frescoes, an early 14th century Simone Martini painting,
The V&A opens its whole collection to the public for the first time in the groundbreaking new V&A Storehouse

“Neither warehouse nor museum, but a hybrid shared by sta and the public”
Leigh Bowery costumes, Althea McNish fabrics, vintage band t-shirts and performance posters, and avant-garde fashion and couture from Balenciaga, Schiaparelli, Comme des Garcons, Issey Miyake and Vivienne Westwood, there’s something for everyone to explore.
Since going live on 13 May, thousands of appointments have been booked to see over 1,000 objects from 14th century and contemporary ceramics to a 17th century carpet from Iran, 1930s wedding dresses and Julia Margaret Cameron photographs. So far, the most popular item ordered is a 1954 pink silk ta eta evening dress by Cristóbal Balenciaga.
Elizabeth Diller, Founding Partner, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the firm that designed the architecture for V&A East Storehouse, said:
“To celebrate the heterogeneity of the V&A’s collection of collections, visitors will experience a sense of being immersed in a vast Cabinet of Curiosities. The Collections Hall invites visitors to explore pre-curated works surrounding them, not according to conventional curatorial logics or standard storage taxonomies, but guided instead by their own curiosities in a new kind of institution: neither warehouse nor museum, but rather a hybrid shared by sta and the public with expanded opportunities for access and exchange.”
Visitors are captivated by stunning vistas across all levels, surrounded by a cross-section of the V&A’s collections. Spanning ancient Buddhist sculpture to PJ Harvey’s guitar, paintings by Angelica Kau man’s circle, costumes worn by Vivien Leigh, works by Sir Frank Bowling and Hew Locke, items from Glastonbury Festival, Su ragette scarves, vintage football shirts, Thomas Heatherwick’s model for the London 2012 Olympic Cauldron and road signs designed by Margaret Calvert, visitors can take their own path through over 100 mini curated displays hacked into the ends and sides of the storage racking.
Six large-scale objects anchor the space, on display for the first time in decades. Highlights include the 1930s Kaufmann O ce, the only complete Frank Lloyd Wright

interior outside of the US, an exquisite 15th century carved and gilded wooden ceiling from the now lost Torrijos Palace in Spain, and a full-scale 20th century Frankfurt Kitchen designed by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky.
Also on show is a building section from Robin Hood Gardens, a former residential estate in east London, the 17th century Agra Colonnade, an extraordinary example of Mughal architecture from the bathhouse at the fort of Agra, and the largest Picasso work in the world – a monumental Ballets Russes Le Train Bleu theatre stage cloth. At 10 metres high and 11 metres wide, the Picasso-signed stage cloth has been rarely seen since its debut in 1924. It is on display in the new David and Molly Lowell Borthwick Gallery of epic proportions, built to show the V&A’s striking collection of large-scale textiles and theatre stage cloths on rotation.
These large objects are brought further to life with a series of co-production projects in collaboration with young east Londoners, communities, and creatives, highlighting multiple new voices and perspectives across the space, including oral histories, new films, publications and artworks in response.
This is the first of V&A East’s two new cultural destinations to open in east London. The second, V&A East Museum, is scheduled to open in spring 2026, and celebrates making and creativity’s power to bring change. Created with young people and rooted in east London’s heritage, V&A East Museum spotlights the people, ideas and creativity shaping global culture right now.w

DECO
Claridge’s is celebrating 100 years of Art Deco. Absolutely takes a tour
By PENDLE HARTE
DELIGHTS
Claridge’s is a fabulous example of London’s finest Art Deco. Mirrored details, geometric flourishes, extravagant chandeliers and monochrome marble are all on display in the hotel that strikes a clever balance between the traditional and contemporary. And because fun is such an integral part
of Art Deco – and of Claridge’s – they’ve announced a programme of events celebrating 100 years of Art Deco. Not that Claridge’s started life as an Art Deco hotel, explains archivist Kate Hudson. She is taking a small group of us on an Art Decothemed tour of the hotel, one of the events celebrating the centenary that they weren’t certain would attract much interest. But demand has been huge and I’m lucky to have a spot. “We had no idea it would be so popular,”
she says. Her estimate is that most guests at Claridges are ambivalent about the building’s history, while a minority are enthusiasts. We learn a lot. There has been a hotel on the site since 1812, and the current building is Victorian, dating back to 1898 when the architect behind Harrods and Harvey Nichols designed a hotel to suit the exacting standards specified by the Grosvenor Estate. It wasn’t until 1925, the year of the famed Paris exhibition, that Art Deco elements were introduced – though of course it wasn’t until the 1960s that the term Art Deco was coined. In 1925, the style that we now call Art Deco was simply the height of contemporary fashion, as manifested in Paris. The Paris exhibition set a new global standard for style with more than 15,000 exhibitors and millions of visitors over the six month event. New ideas spread throughout the world in its wake and Claridge’s hired hot interior designer Basil Ionides, who had been inspired by everything he’d seen in Paris, to make some changes to the hotel interior. A press release was issued to reassure the existing clientele that nothing too shocking was set to change, but that an injection of ‘joie de vivre’ was on the cards.
Ionides introduced what became a longstanding relationship with Lalique, bringing in carved glass panels and various decorative details. Kate leads us across the road to admire the hotel’s iconic Art Deco entrance. “Originally there was an entrance for the horses and carriages,” she explains, and it was replaced with the impressive black tiled portico in 1929. Its interior remains the same today: the impressive chandelier, the mirrors, the coloured glass, and over the revolving door Kate points out a fun jousting tent e ect. However, not everything remains in its original state. Over the years attitudes to conservation have varied along with fashions. While you might think that the beautiful restaurant is an original Art Deco interior, in fact it’s just two years old, a completely reimagined space that includes lots of references to the hotel’s design history, but is actually entirely new. The stylish secluded Fumoir bar? Also not original. However, the ballroom and the library retain their original features. Moreover, the hotel has recently added several new floors below ground, making it very much a fusion of old and new. Interested? Book yourself onto a tour.

Previewing the major retrospective of Gianni Versace’s work that opens this month
Amajor new Gianni Versace retrospective comes to Arches London Bridge this month. Honouring the legacy of a designer who transformed the fashion world, the exhibition will feature the largest collection of vintage Gianni Versace designs ever to be displayed in the UK with over 450 original vintage garments, accessories, personal sketches, interviews and photographs which showcase the designer’s craftsmanship, innovation, and unmistakable aesthetic.
This retrospective celebrates a visionary designer whose groundbreaking work catapulted the Versace brand to a level of great international success that has sustained almost 30 years after his death. From opulent baroque prints to daring bondage designs, Gianni Versace’s visionary collections revolutionised fashion.
The show reflects the many ways that Lonson and its people inspired the designer’s work. Gianni's closest friend was Elton John, already a hero of British pop music at the time who famously owned every Versace silk shirt. A collection of these iconic designs is now on display. Princess Diana became a close confidante and a symbol of reinvention wearing his clothes. Looks, collections and documents that tell of these relationships feature throughout the retrospective.
The phenomenon of the supermodel was born in London and Gianni Versace’s fashion icons were the (London-born) Naomi Campbell

and Kate Moss with whom he produced many of his legendary campaigns in collaboration with world-renowned photographers. Famously, George Michael’s chart-topping song ‘Freedom’ cast the “Supers” as they lip-synced the lyrics in both his music video and on Gianni’s catwalk.
Boldly reinvented every season, Gianni Versace’s designs are showcased in the exhibition through a vibrant chronology of looks on display from 21 collections (Spring/ Summer 1988 – Autumn/Winter 199798). Original runway show footage, videos, magazines and photographs underscore the rapid changes in aesthetics during these years.
As the exhibition looks back, it considers how the nostalgic appeal of the '90s Versace aesthetic underpins our current understanding of identity, fame, and consumption today. From social media influencers to the resurgence of '90s-inspired aesthetics, the obsession with personal reinvention and excess remains ever-present, where trends are rapidly recycled and reinterpreted.
Liz Koravos, Managing Director of Arches London Bridge says: “Gianni Versace ties to so much in modern culture and his legacy is enduring, a mark of a talented designer. Versace was a pioneer in collaborative art, something that is commonplace these days. The crossover between fashion, music, pop culture, fine art, antiquities, sculpture and the rise of the supermodel is all encapsulated in his work. The biggest collection of vintage Versace to ever visit the UK will give visitors a kaleidoscopic view of the 90s.”

The debut roster boasts award-winning talents like EllesBailey, TheLongestJohns, Talisk, Breabach, and the LondonAfrobeatCollective.
Beyond music, the festival’s heartbeat is creativity and participation: expect spoken-word, comedy, circus, and interactive arts. Highlights include a Heritage Craft Village, where you can try blacksmithing, stone-carving, needlework, and more.
When Kristyna Weston moved to the UK, she couldn’t understand why premium quality Prosecco (Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG) wasn’t readily available here, especially when, as a nation, we consume so much fizz. And so, she went on a mission to change that – first opening an online shop, then a bar and now, bringing Italy’s top producers to Marlow for a twoday festival, the first of its kind in the UK. A high class Queen’s Park restaurant and bakery
By PENDLE HARTE
It’s been famously hard to get a table at this Queens Park restaurant/bakery since it opened several months ago, so we’re feeling lucky to be sipping Vermouth and soda (locally made) in this stylish space. Despite the daft name, this is a serious eaterie run by an enthusiastic team, combining a daytime bakery with an ambitious dinner venue. On weekends they routinely sell out of bread well before midday, with queues stretching far down the street.
It’s a stylish space, all shades of caramel and khaki, and it’s filling up fast on this sunny evening. We’re advised that we have to try the
unlikely-sounding oxtail crumpet first, and it’s a small mouthful of meatiness with an appealingly old-fashioned mix of oiliness and saltiness, a clever combination disguised as a cute mini cupcake. The house bread is good too, predictably, as is a biscuity cracker made from leftover sourdough discard.
This might be the first restaurant I’ve visited in some time that isn’t based on a sharing plates model. We are reminded that sharing is possible, though we stick to the traditional way and order individually. To start, it’s crab tart for me, which is excellent, unusually generous on the crab/pastry ratio, and the perfectly thin pastry is tasty and crusty with
“Oxtail crumpet is a small mouthful of meatiness disguised as a cupcake”
a dark flavour that I’m guessing is possibly rye. Watercress is a lovely peppery addition. Meanwhile, lamb sweetbreads with radish and croutons is a lively salad with capers and lots of flavour. And then we end up sharing main courses, because they’re both so good. My pork collar with Judion beans, Calabrian chilli and friggitelli peppers is a large and hearty plate with a Spanish feel: the pork is sweet and soft, the beans are juicy and buttery; it’s a substantial meal. Guinea fowl with roast Datterini, baby gem and anchovy mayonnaise is a crisp, salady plate with flavourful and gamey meat. To drink, we enjoy Albarino wine from Uruguay (there are also various local cuvees available by the glass) – and despite being too full for pudding, we are persuaded to take home a small box of signature Madelines. They are flawless: buttery, delicate, pretty. Thank you, Don’t Tell Dad.

Permit Room
Dishoom's cocktailloving little sister
Portobello Road's Permit Room is Dishoom’s first outpost dedicated to Bombay’s vibrant bar culture. Inspired by the permit rooms of Bombay, it’s an easygoing all-day bar-café for breakfast, a solo pint, lazy dinners with friends, or cocktails and DJs into the night. And you can even stay overnight at the Permit Room Lodgings. This warm, neighbourhood hangout is set over three thoughtfully designed floors by Macaulay Sinclair. It includes a Breakfast Room and Bar, a nod to the old ‘First Floor’ dining room.
The food menu features Bombaystyle breakfasts including the new French Toast (cheese-filled brioche with hot honey and bacon) and Crumpety Eggs Kejriwal. Lunchtime and dinner bring snacks like Crispy Spinach Chaat and Spicy Chicken Pu , comforting curries, and the house-favourite Tandoori Chicken. Dishoom classics such as Black Daal and Mattar Paneer feature too. Drinks are just as creative, with unique cocktails like the chilli-spiked Blushing Dawn Paloma and the Thums Up Sazerac. Beer options include the Watermelon Sharbat Gose or a towering Kingfisher beer tap. DJ Rohan Rakhit curaties a programme of global sounds and emerging South Asian talent, from jazz to disco. A celebration of culture, community, and flavour, the Permit Room brings a little Bombay soul to Notting Hill.

Italian inspired sweet and savoury dishes, all featuring lemons
Crispy fried red mullet
with chickpea and red onion salad
Serves 4
Prep 30 mins
Red mullet is one of the gems of the sea, one that always that brings me joy. This highly prized fish, particularly revered in the Andalusian coastal town of Barbate, is known for its range of sizes and for the versatility it offers in cooking methods. Whether it tips the scales at a few grams or approaches the he ier side of half a kilo, red mullet always delivers great taste and quality. Best known for the way its sweet, nutty flavour – which some liken to a cross between crab and lobster – stands out whether it’s grilled or pan-fried, red mullet is a winner. This recipe celebrates this delightful fish by pairing it with a wonderful chickpea salad, complementing the natural flavours with the freshness of the lemon and aromatic fennel seeds. The contrast between the warm fish and the cool herbaceous salad creates a food experience that is balanced and exciting.
INGREDIENTS
• 4 tbsp chickpea (gram) flour
• 1 tsp smoked pimentón
• 8 red mullet fillets
• 75ml (21⁄2fl oz/scant 1⁄3 cup) olive oil
• flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper For the salad
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 garlic clove, bashed
• 1 tsp fennel seeds
• 2 × 400g tins of chickpeas (garbanzos), drained and rinsed
• 1 red onion, finely chopped
• juice of 1 lemon
• 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
• large handful of flat-leaf parsley, leaves picked and chopped
METHOD
1 Prepare the salad. Heat the oil, garlic and fennel seeds in a frying pan (skillet). Add the chickpeas and gently cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring, then tip into a large serving bowl and season well with salt and pepper.
2 Add the onion and lemon juice and set aside while you prepare the fish.
3 Mix the chickpea flour with the pimentón and plenty of salt and pepper. Dredge the red mullet fillets in the flour.
4 Heat the oil in a large frying pan (skillet) until it shimmers, then add the fillets and fry for 4–5 minutes until golden and crispy, turning once. Drain on paper towels.
5 Add the parsley to the salad and serve with the crispy red mullet fillets.
Jamón, peach and pistachio
Serves 4
Prep 30 mins
This salad is a perfect summer dish, one we especially love to enjoy at Iris, Cádiz. Pistachios have recently become a favourite in Spain, growing especially well in regions like Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia. Known for their vibrant green colour and rich, nutty flavour, Spanish pistachios can add a special touch to traditional and modern dishes, and importantly, they have become an economic boost for various smaller communities. Jamón Ibérico Cinco Jotas is the perfect addition here, its exquisite flavour elevating the dish and complementing the other ingredients beautifully. I think goats’ cheese is perfect for this dish, pairing well with the sweet, juicy peaches and savoury jamón. The infused milk adds a lovely depth of flavour, bringing everything together harmoniously – ideal for a warm, sunny lunch.
INGREDIENTS
• 61 tbsp olive oil
• 4 ripe peaches, halved
• 2 sprigs of marjoram
• 1 tbsp honey
• 2 tbsp Pedro Ximénez sherry vinegar
• 125g (4oz) jamón Ibérico
• 60g (2oz) shelled pistachios
• 100g (31⁄2oz) soft goats’ cheese
• 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
• flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
METHOD
1 Heat the olive oil in a non-stick frying pan (skillet) over a medium–high heat. Add the peaches, cut-side down, and cook for 2–3 minutes until just starting to colour.
2 Add the marjoram, honey and sherry vinegar and some salt and pepper and continue to cook for a further 2–3 minutes until sticky and tender. Flip over and turn o the heat.
3 Arrange the jamón on a serving platter. Toast the pistachios in a dry frying pan (skillet) until lightly charred and fragrant, then roughly chop.
4 Add the peaches to the platter and spoon over any juices from the pan. Scatter with the goats’ cheese and pistachios and drizzle with the extra virgin olive oil to serve.
Arroz al horno with pork ribs
Serves 6
Prep 3 hours plus marinating
Ribs have a special place in my heart–they’re just irresistible, no matter how they’re cooked! In this recipe, while rice serves as the foundational ingredient, the ribs are the star of the show. Marinated to perfection, the ribs release their rich, savoury juices into the rice as they cook, infusing every grain with a depth of flavour that is mouth- watering and satisfying.
The marinade is a bold mix of aromatics and spices, including the zest of lemon and sprigs of fresh oregano, enhanced by a good pinch of pimentón. Marinating not only tenderises the ribs but deepens the flavours. As the ribs slow-cook to tender perfection, their flavours combine with the lemon’s acidity, cutting through the richness and balancing the fatty succulence of the pork.
This harmonious blend of tender meat, aromatic seasoning and refreshing citrus results in a dish in which the flavours dance together in unison. Paired with the so , flavourful rice that captures all the essences of the marinade, this dish is both hearty and refined.
An Amontillado would pair beautifully with these delicious ribs.
INGREDIENTS
• 6 chunky pork belly ribs
• 200ml (7fl oz/scant 1 cup) white wine
• pared zest of 1 lemon
• 4 sprigs of oregano
• good pinch of pimentón
• 75ml (21⁄2fl oz/scant 1⁄3 cup) olive oil
• 1 large onion, finely sliced
• 2 red (bell) peppers, deseeded and sliced
• 3 large tomatoes, chopped
• 3 garlic cloves, crushed
• 300g (101⁄2oz/12⁄3 cups) bomba or other medium-grain paella rice
• 700ml (24fl oz/3 cups) fresh chicken stock
• flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
METHOD
1 Put the ribs in a dish with the white wine, lemon zest, oregano and pimentón and marinate for 1–2 hours, or overnight.
2 Preheat the oven to 140°C fan (160°C/320°F/gas 2–3). Put the ribs in an ovenproof dish and cover with kitchen foil. Bake for 2 hours, or until tender.
3 Meanwhile, heat the oil in a paella
pan or ovenproof dish. Fry the onion and peppers for 10 minutes until really softened, then add the tomatoes and garlic and cook for 5 more minutes.
4 Increase the oven temperature to 170°C fan (190°C/375°F/ gas 5).
5 Add the rice to the pan, then nestle the ribs into the rice, pouring in any of their juices. Pour over the stock, season well with salt and pepper and return to the oven. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the rice is tender and the ribs are browned, then serve.

After navigating IVF, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery in my thirties, I hit my forties determined to take back control of my fitness. So when I had the chance to try a FOLD Reformer bed at home, I jumped at the opportunity – and enlisted expert trainer Aimee Long to help elevate my workouts.
Aimee has trained celebrities and royalty, but her approach is refreshingly down-to-earth. She mixes Pilates, barre, strength

We trained virtually twice a week for a month using the FOLD bed, hand weights, and Pilates accessories. Each session was a full-body burn. Aimee pushed me with combinations of dynamic Reformer moves – tricep dips, inner thigh pulses, roundthe-worlds – and floor-based cardio and strength work that had me breathless and sore
in the best way. She adjusted the plan as we went, helping me target ankle stability and core strength, while focusing on form over intensity. What stood out most was Aimee’s personalised, holistic approach. Rather than focusing on weight loss, she encouraged me to reframe my goals: to build strength, improve mobility, and challenge my body with purpose. At 42, I can honestly say I feel stronger and more connected to my body than ever before.

NUTRIBULLET PRO JUICER, NUTRIBULLET.CO.UK,
THE BIG SQUEEZE
Why we should all be juicing for health and longevity
Juicing, the process of extracting juice from fresh fruits and vegetables, has gained popularity as a health trend. Advocates claim numerous benefits ranging from improved nutrient intake to enhanced digestion. Here are some key benefits of incorporating juicing into your diet:
NUTRIENT DENSITY
Juicing can provide a concentrated source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. When you juice fruits and vegetables, you can consume a larger quantity than you might be able to eat whole. This means you can get a significant amount of nutrients in a single glass, which can contribute to better overall health. Nutrients like vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and potassium are abundant in various fruits and vegetables and are essential for bodily functions.
IMPROVED DIGESTION AND NUTRIENT ABSORPTION
Juicing breaks down fruits and vegetables into a liquid form, which can be easier for
your digestive system to process. This can be particularly beneficial for people with digestive issues or for those who struggle to eat enough whole fruits and vegetables. The nutrients in juice are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, providing a rapid nutritional boost.
DETOXIFICATION
Juicing is often promoted as a way to detoxify the body. While the body naturally detoxifies through the liver, kidneys, and skin, consuming juices rich in antioxidants and nutrients can support these processes. Ingredients like leafy greens, beets, and citrus fruits are known for their detoxifying properties and can help in cleansing the body.
WEIGHT MANAGEMENT
Juicing can be an e ective tool for weight management. When incorporated into a balanced diet, juices can serve as lowcalorie, nutrient-rich meal replacements or snacks. However, it's important to be mindful of the sugar content in fruit juices and to balance them with vegetable juices to avoid excessive sugar consumption.
ENHANCED IMMUNE FUNCTION
The vitamins and antioxidants found in freshly made juices can help strengthen the immune system. Vitamin C, found in high levels in citrus fruits and leafy greens, is particularly known for its immune-boosting properties.
INCREASED FRUIT AND VEGETABLE INTAKE
Juicing o ers a convenient way to increase your intake, ensuring you benefit from the wide range of vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients these foods provide. This can contribute to a more balanced and nutritious diet.
IMPROVED ENERGY LEVELS
Many people report increased energy levels when they start juicing. The quick absorption of nutrients provides an immediate energy boost, and the overall improvement in diet quality can lead to sustained energy throughout the day. This can be particularly beneficial for those who experience afternoon energy slumps or rely on ca eine for a pick-me-up.
While juicing should not replace whole fruits and vegetables entirely due to the loss of fiber during the juicing process, it can be a valuable addition to a healthy diet. By incorporating a variety of nutrient-dense juices, you can enhance your overall health, support bodily functions, and enjoy a tasty and refreshing way to consume essential vitamins and minerals. Be warned: using a juicer for the first time can be daunting because these are powerful machines, and they can be noisy. We confess to being a bit frightened at first.. but the delicious and nutritious results are worth it. You won't look back: just make sure your model's attachments are dishwasher safe.

SIX REASONS WHY LINEN IS THE BEST FABRIC FOR BEDDING
1 BREATHABILITY AND TEMPERATURE REGULATION
Linen is naturally breathable and excels at regulating temperature. Unlike synthetic fabrics or even cotton, linen allows for superior airflow, which keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This thermoregulating quality makes linen an ideal choice for year-round bedding, especially for people who tend to sleep hot or experience night sweats. The moisture-wicking ability of linen is another standout feature. It can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, helping to keep your bed feeling dry and fresh even on humid nights.
2 DURABILITY AND LONGEVITY
Linen is known for its strength—flax fibers are significantly stronger than cotton, which means linen sheets are highly durable and can last for decades with proper care. In fact, linen tends to get better with age: it becomes softer and more comfortable after each wash without losing its structural integrity. While linen may cost more upfront, its longevity makes it a cost-e ective choice in the long run. Instead of replacing worn-out sheets every few years, linen bedding can serve you well for decades, aging gracefully with time.
3 ECO-FRIENDLY AND SUSTAINABLE
Linen is one of the most sustainable fabrics available. The flax plant requires minimal water and pesticides compared to cotton, making linen a more environmentally friendly crop. Nearly every part of the flax
plant can be used, resulting in minimal waste. Additionally, linen is biodegradable, meaning that once it reaches the end of its life cycle, it won’t linger in landfi lls for centuries like synthetic fabrics. Choosing linen bedding is a conscious step towards more sustainable living, appealing to environmentally minded consumers who want to reduce their ecological footprint.
4 HYPOALLERGENIC AND GENTLE ON SKIN
Linen’s natural fibers are inherently hypoallergenic and antibacterial, which makes it an excellent choice for people with sensitive skin, allergies, or respiratory issues. Its antimicrobial properties help inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi, promoting a healthier sleeping environment.
Choosing linen bedding is a conscious step towards more sustainable living
Linen also has a slightly textured surface that gently massages the skin, which some people fi nd soothing and therapeutic. Over time, the fabric becomes softer and more supple, adding to its comfort.
5 TIMELESS AESTHETIC APPEAL
Linen has a natural, rustic beauty that adds a sense of e ortless elegance to any bedroom. Its texture and drape create a relaxed, inviting look that suits both minimalist and bohemian interiors. Linen's subtle sheen and rich colors, often in muted earthy tones, contribute to a serene atmosphere—perfect for a restful space. Moreover, linen resists pilling and rarely looks wrinkled in an unattractive way. Its signature creases add to its casual, lived-in charm rather than detracting from it.
6 LOW MAINTENANCE
Despite its reputation for being luxurious, linen is surprisingly low-maintenance. It doesn't require ironing (unless you want a crisper look), and it's naturally stain-resistant thanks to its fiber structure. Linen can be machine washed and tends to release dirt and stains more easily than many other fabrics. Linen bedding combines comfort, practicality, and environmental benefits in a way that few other fabrics can match. Its breathability, durability, sustainability, and timeless appeal make it a standout choice for anyone looking to invest in high-quality sleep essentials.

SCIENCE OF SLEEP
Sanjay Verma, the Chief Sleep O cer at Jensen Beds, on helping Olympic athletes to prepare and how the same principles can help you too
Q When did you first start studying the science behind sleep?
A I began in 2008, while working for a luxury bed brand. At the time, I was launching the brand in an emerging economy, but we struggled to make sales – despite our target customers having the means to buy, they felt the products were too expensive. To shift perceptions, I realized we needed to emphasize more than just luxury; we needed to focus on the value of truly restorative sleep. This forced me to quickly learn everything I could about what sleep is, why it matters, and how a bed or mattress can make a di erence.
Q How did this lead you to being a sleep coach for Swedish athletes?
A Later in my career, I joined Hilding Anders as Chief Sleep O cer to establish a Sleep Centre of Excellence, part of the company’s broader move to reposition itself as a “sleep company”.
“Every Jensen bed is designed to support sleep by providing ergonomic support”
Around the same time, the Swedish Olympic Committee approached Hilding Anders for sponsorship. We struck a deal: part of the sponsorship fee would be paid in services – specifically, sleep coaching. In return, Swedish Olympic athletes became brand ambassadors. I became the o cial Sleep Coach in 2020, and even after the sponsorship ended, I continue to work with both Sweden’s Summer and Winter Olympic teams.
Q Looking at athletes, how much would you say sleep plays a key role?
A It varies by athlete and sport, but the impact is undeniable. Walter Wallberg, a gold medalist at the Beijing Olympics, once told the media that his performance drops by 30% after a poor night’s sleep. In my view, sleep is significant enough to make or break an athlete over the long term.
Q What types of things do you encourage the athletes to do?
A I encourage a range of practices – primarily improving sleep hygiene, managing stress, and creating a bedroom environment that’s conducive to restful sleep.
Q When did the opportunity come up to join Jensen Beds?
A I joined Hilding Anders – the holding company of Jensen – in 2019, eager to move beyond simply selling high-end luxury products, which I’d done for over 15 years globally. I wanted to contribute to Hilding Anders’ mission to democratize good sleep. The company launched a new bed brand focused on sleep, with production handled by Jensen. Over time, that brand has been absorbed into Jensen itself. I continue to support Jensen’s drive to bring better sleep to new countries beyond its home market of Norway.
Q Today you are Chief Sleep
O cer: can you give us an idea of how a day in your life looks?
A No two days are the same. I spend time reading books, scientific journals, and listening to podcasts to stay on top of the latest sleep research. I collaborate with Jensen’s marketing team to help position the brand around sleep and support the new product development team with sleep-related insights. I also participate in PR activities –appearing as a guest on podcasts, attending marketing events, and giving sleep talks.
Q How much science goes into a Jensen Beds creation?
A A great deal. Even before I joined, a professional chiropractor led product development for nearly three decades. After his retirement, Jensen brought in another expert. Every new product is developed with the latest sleep research in mind and is rigorously tested in a Swiss laboratory. Only products that meet the highest standards
for ergonomics, hygiene, climate control, and sustainability are ever launched.
Q Looking at any recent mattress launch from Jensen Beds, how would you say it aids sleep?
A Every Jensen bed is designed to support sleep by providing optimal ergonomic support – thanks to a wide selection of models and firmness options, along with mechanisms to control firmness. They also isolate movement, maintain a comfortable climate by dispersing excess heat and wicking away moisture, and use sustainable materials throughout production.
Q Can you give us 5 top tips for the perfect night’s sleep?
1. Stick to a consistent sleep schedule. Your brain thrives on routine, and going to bed and waking up at the same time each day builds a powerful, compounding habit for better rest.
2. Seek bright morning light and dim evening lights. Morning sunlight signals your body to wake up, while avoiding bright and blue light at night tells your brain it’s time to wind down.
3. Keep your bedroom cool. A cooler room helps your body temperature drop naturally, making it easier to fall asleep.
4. Limit evening ca eine, alcohol, and heavy meals. What you consume before bed can disrupt your sleep quality.
5. Choose the right bed, mattress, pillows, duvet, and bed linen. Quality sleepsupporting bedding adapts to your body and preferences, turning your bed into a sanctuary for rest and recovery.

SPOTTERS TREND
At our recent visit to WOW!house 2025 at Chelsea Harbour, we discovered a wealth of design trends reflecting the contemporary pulse of interiors— where craftsmanship, sustainability, narrative, and sensory immersion converge across 22 exquisitely curated spaces. Here are the dominant themes and notable highlights shaping the conversation in 2025:
1. CRAFTSMANSHIP & QUALITY MATERIALS
A deference to expert craftsmanship permeated the show, with furniture and finishes deeply rooted in quality. Highlights included Tom Faulkner’s sculptural dining table, Sta an Tollgård’s bespoke study pieces, and period joinery by Atkey & Co for Shalini Misra’s entry—all embodying the kind of attention to detail that outlasts fleeting trends
Romanos Brihi and Venetia Rudebeck’s kitchen exemplified this ethos, blending marble, brass, oak, and plaster in a tactile symphony—anchored by Gaggenau appliances and antique pieces that give the space personality.
2. SUSTAINABILITY & REPURPOSE CULTURE
WOW!house 2025 layered its creative ambition with eco-conscious materials: modular façades made from 3D-printed bioplastics, flooring and fabric walls designed for reuse, and rehoming of furnishings post-show. This is a deliberate shift toward a circular creative economy

3. ORGANIC COLOUR PALETTES & BOTANICALS
Natural hues dominated—from soft olives and earthy terracotta to deep forest tones. The verdant courtyard, garden terrace, and multiple rooms showcased lush greenery and wallpapers adorned with foliage motifs, reinforcing the biophilic resurgence across interiors .
4. TEXTURAL LAYERING & PATTERN PLAY
2025’s interiors asked visitors to linger through layered textures and patterns. From intricate wallpaper and fabric combinations (print-on-print) to ceiling treatments— think bamboo-clad or tented overhead drapery—the spaces encouraged a "layers rich in depth" aesthetic. We saw bold tongue-in-cheek stripes on terraces, verdant botanical prints, and tactile panelling that brought warmth and personality to refined spaces.
5. CEILING AS A FIFTH WALL
An unexpected co-star: ceilings. Whether painted, upholstered, clad in bamboo, or tented with fabric, they contributed significantly to ambience, marking a departure from the ubiquitous white ceiling and adding inviting intimacy to rooms .
6. ASYMMETRY & CURATED CLUTTER
There was a tangible shift away from perfectly symmetrical, 'matched' interiors. Designers like Kelly Hoppen and Ben Pentreath endorsed asymmetry and collected interiors—spaces
evolved over time with "quiet accumulation" of objects, art, and vintage layers, intentionally curated into rich vignettes.
7. TILE-DRENCHING FOR COHESION
This year’s embrace of tile drenching—floor-to-ceiling tiling using unified patterns—emerged as a refined trend. Ideal for compact bathrooms and kitchens, it’s a visually seamless way to unify a space while remaining customizable to palette and texture preferences.
8. NATURAL MATERIALS IN EVERYDAY APPLICATIONS
From limestone and terracotta garden paths to sisal, linen, rattan, and polished brass, natural materials were not mere accent items but core players in creating earthy comfort. Adam Ellis’s tree-motif wall in the dining room and woolsisal flooring reinforced this familiar-but-elevating motif.
9. NOSTALGIC & ARTS & CRAFTS INFLUENCES
Rooms like Chad Dorsey’s Arts & Crafts drawing room wad anchored in British-American stylistic crossovers—floral wallpapers framed architecturally, rich handcrafted rugs, and folk references—highlighting the enduring appeal of tradition and nostalgia.
10. PURPOSEFUL ZONES & SOCIAL SETTINGS
Multiple spaces included intentional "social points"— from cocktail trolleys and tea trays to snug reading

“Tile drenching— floor-to-ceiling tiling using unified patterns— emerged as a refined trend”
nooks, dens, and media rooms. Toni Black’s Gathering Bar embraced this concept, showcasing the renewed value of dedicated spaces for social connection.
11. MULTISENSORY & STORY-DRIVEN EXPERIENCES
WOW!house feels like walking through a story, not merely a showcase. Beyond visuals, Jo Malone’s signature fragrances infused rooms, and narrative-driven pieces (e.g., Alessandra Branca’s "fairy-tale" bedroom or Victorian fabrics in smuggled skylit rooms) created immersive emotional layers.
12. HERITAGE ARCHITECTURE REIMAGINED
Externally, Adam Architecture’s Georgian-inspired façade and Darren Price’s Atkey & Co doorway set an evocative classical stage for the showhouse—a declarative gesture connecting context to crafted interiors.
• Curated Stories – Each room acts as a chapter: collectable, sensory, soulful.
For anyone seeking inspiration that balances the luxurious with the lived-in, the sustainable with the sumptuous, it’s a masterclass in creating deeply personal and enduring spaces.

Tracey Emin adds to her popular collection for the National Portrait Gallery
You might think you can't a ord to invest in art, but surely you can a ord a teatowel. An a ordable entry route into art collection comes via the National Portrait Gallery, where Tracey Emin's collection of homeware is priving highly collectible.
And now Emin has collaborated once again with the National Portrait Gallery Shop on a new range of tea towels. The pieces feature three of Emin’s drawings from the 2023 commission The Doors, which cover the entrance doors to the Gallery. Exclusive to the National Portrait Gallery Shop, each tea
towel is made in the UK from organic cotton. The tea towels sit alongside her ceramics range, Untitled, 2023, consisting of two plates, one featuring a single portrait in the centre and the other featuring six selected portraits around the rim, two mugs, each featuring three selected portraits and a milk jug featuring a single portrait.
National Portrait Gallery Shop says: “The reaction to our Tracey Emin collection has been incredible, with products constantly selling out. Many Gallery Shop customers snap up the entire range as gifts or keepsakes. Presented as a collection on the wall the plates look beautiful, as well as on the table or as practical gifts. The tea towels can be framed and mounted as
original artworks - further democratising fine art which is so important to Emin.”
The artist shares her thoughts on The Doors artwork: ‘Women in history are greatly underrepresented. I didn’t want to depict specific or identifiable figures. I felt like the doors of the National Portrait Gallery should represent every woman, every age and every culture throughout time. I used myself as a mental template, but the end result is many di erent women, some that exist in my mind and some that perhaps exist in reality, here and now, as well as from the past. I want people to stand in-front of the doors and say, ‘she looks like my mother, she looks like my best friend, my daughter.’ npgshop.org.uk
SHADES NICE
East London Parasol company has teamed up with Spanish designer Celia B to create a range of flamboyant sun umbrellas. Founder Lucy Ferguson tells us about it
A Celia B, the Spanish fashion label founded by Celia Bernardo in 2012, is celebrated for its dopamine-inducing designs and bold, playful patterns that celebrate self-expression. Each parasol in the La Isla Bonita collection features Celia B’s distinctive hand-drawn prints, inspired by beautiful global destinations –from Mallorca to Santorini. The designs are digitally printed on water-resistant canvas and paired with signature East London Parasol Company craftsmanship: bamboo frames, hand-carved wooden poles, vibrant threading, and gilded detailing, all handmade in Bali in around 20 intricate stages.
Q How did the East London parasol company come about?
A I had the idea to create flamboyant garden parasols after spending a lot of time in Kerala, south India and becoming entranced by the temple umbrellas they use in celebrations. After a break up I decided I wanted to do something joyful and colourful and
the parasols were the perfect idea. I went back to India, travelled around Kerala and Rajasthan finding umbrella makers and launched my first parasols in 2016. I started making because I wanted to bring joy to people and inspire them to be brave with colour. The parasols naturally create an intimate space underneath which bring people together. And popping up a parasol immediately creates a theatrical scene. Seeing customers photos of how they style their parasols makes my day!
Q You have been inspired by India. Tell us about that.
A I first visited India about 25 years ago as my dad worked here and I was blown away by the colour, noise, sounds, fabric and magic of it. Once you’ve been exposed to that it’s hard not to want more. I’ve been lucky to spend a large part of the last 13 years in India and it’s crafts, colour and capacity for joy is unlike anywhere else I know.
Q The parasols are so beautiful - can you tell us about the manufacturing process?
A In 2017 I started working with artisans in Bali to create our bamboo parasols and wooden bases. Then, in addition to working with Indian printers, I found a family of stone carvers in Rajasthan to make parasol bases- and the business grew.
During lockdown I decided I wanted to champion British craftsmanship and found a skilful carpenter in Hampshire who had been making scenery for theatres, but needed to pivot due to covid. We have been working together over the last few years to hone our frame design and they are beautiful. Each of our octagonal parasols is assembled to order.
We sell our designs of parasols, decorative bases and cushions. Our production is slow and careful, with minimal waste and no mass production. We use sustainable woods and plant a tree in India or Indonesia for every parasol we sell - partnering with a responsible reforestation initiative.
Our Round Bamboo parasols and wooden bases are made in Bali where we work with many villages of artisans - each bamboo parasol is made in over 20 stages. Following that,
Q Tell us about the collaboration with Celia B
our octagonal parasol frames are made in Hampshire using FSC certified sustainable ash wood. The octagonal parasol canopies are screen printed in India and our cushions are block printed by hand in Jaipur, while the stone bases are hand carved by 7th generation stone carvers in Rajasthan.
During my 20s I was fortunate to spend many summers at festivals with the people who created the event spaces. The whimsical and gorgeous worlds they created definitely gave me confidence in dreaming up opulent garden parasols when there weren’t really any others like them on the market.
Q What is your background?
A I went to university at St Andrews and studied English Literature and theology- I tried many careers after universitystarting in financial communications, then professional kitchens, then working in parliament in the House of Commons before writing a book for children and working at Neals Yard Dairy selling cheese. What I learned from all those experiences was that I love people- and that’s not something you are taught at school. Throughout my career
adventures the people I worked with were the high points for me, and I’m so lucky that I’ve found brilliant people to work with to create the parasols over so many years.
Q How do your parasols fare in the British climate?
A The parasols are named after divas, known personally or internationally, because they aren’t run of the mill, they’re extra special. With care they’ll last years. We try to be as helpful as possible about how to prolong the life of your parasol on our website. A vital thing is to make sure it’s dried out before you pack it away. The most important element of having a happy parasol is a very good parasol base. Our octagonal parasol frames are made here in the UK from sustainable ash wood and we happily help mend them with our carpenter. We also sell replacement octagonal parasol canopies to our customers so they can refresh their garden set up rather than buying a new parasol.

KITCEN STORY
Case study: A south London kitchen by Husk
The kitchen in this London home was transformed as part of a comprehensive renovation, with the design experts at HUSK collaborating closely with the client’s fitter and Mayflower Stone to ensure a seamless integration of the new kitchen into the broader redesign. A key focus was selecting the right materials, and after reviewing several samples, the clients chose Neolith sintered stone in colour Estatuario for the worktops. Neolith o ers the elegance of marble but with practical advantages such as ease of transport, installation, and durability. Its sleek, 12mm profile provided the modern, low-profile
look the clients desired, which would have been di cult to achieve with other natural stone.
SELECTING THE RIGHT MATERIALS
The Neolith® Estatuario, with its delicate marbled veining and silk finish, brought a luxurious feel to the space, while its durability makes it ideal for everyday use. The clients upgraded their IKEA kitchen carcasses with Fenix® Verde Comodoro fronts, adding a rich, deep green contrast to the light, marble-inspired worktops. The combination of these materials ensured that the kitchen was both visually stunning and functional, creating a perfect balance of style and utility.
A PERFECT BALANCE OF STYLE AND UTILITY
Architectural vision French architect Francois Jeantet played a key role in reimagining the home’s layout, moving the kitchen to the front of the ground-floor plan and opening it up to a spacious, light-filled rear extension. The kitchen became the heart of the home, designed not only
for cooking but also as a social hub for gatherings. Bespoke joinery partitions the kitchen from the hallway and dining room, maintaining an open, airy feel while giving each space its own identity. The central Neolith island became a focal point, o ering both practical workspace and an area for casual dining within the built-in seating at the bay window.
EXPERT CRAFTSMANSHIP AND PREMIUM PRODUCTS
HUSK’s expert craftsmanship played a crucial role in enhancing the kitchen’s appeal with custom details tailored to the clients’ preferences. Features like colour-matched shelving within the island and a bespoke solid oak storage rack again reflected the owners personal tastes. The addition of gold accents in the lighting, bar stools, and tap brought a touch of luxury, beautifully complementing the marblelike Neolith® surfaces. The result was a kitchen that seamlessly blends classic elegance with modern design, creating a space that is both functional and beautiful. neolith.com

The icon of British breakfasts, Dualit celebrates its 80th birthday this year. Absolutely joins the party
Iconic British manufacturer Dualit celebrates its 80-year anniversary this year. Founded in 1945 by Max Gort-Barten, Dualit began as a small engineering company and quickly gained a reputation for robust, handcrafted products. The brand’s Classic Toaster, which first launched in 1952 as a commercial six-slot version, has become a symbol of enduring quality, now instantly recognisable in domestic kitchens worldwide for its distinctive retro design and durability. The Dualit Classic Toaster combines traditional craftsmanship
with modern innovation, with every part being fully repairable or replaceable. Each one is hand-built by the same person from start to finish in its factory in West Sussex and features the name of the assembler on the base plate. Dualit’s longstanding team of eight assemblers proudly put their names to toasters that bring toast to thousands of tables across the globe.
Fans of TV’s Inside the Factory might have watched the recent episode which included a visit to Dualit’s West Sussex factory to discover exactly how this iconic piece is made – and it’s a complex
process. Each component is assembled carefully by hand and to order – and this makes each toaster fully repairable. So it’s literally a toaster for life.
And the toast? We tested a Dualit classic toaster, the kind that has been handmade in the UK since the 1950s, with its iconic design and manual dial. I can confirm that the warm bread/burnt bread issue is easily addressed with a dial that lets you choose exactly how long to toast for, and a lever that allows you to check progress without stopping the clock. Controls are simple and easy to understand (though the bagel setting, with its one-side-only policy, confuses us: which side?). Plus, its shiny chrome finish and rounded shape looks stylish on our worktop. We have been using it for over a week now and haven’t heard the fire alarm once. What a result.
To mark this milestone anniversary, Dualit has launched a limited edition of the Classic Toaster, adorned with the Union Jack that’s bound to become a collector’s item for fans of British design. The Union Jack design will only be available to purchase throughout 2025, with the four slot launching in the UK and two slot launching in export markets. Don't delay. dualit.com

How to use tiling to upgrade your bathroom and transform it into a wet room
Showering is ever popular and the wet room is fast becoming the go-to for a contemporary bathroom upgrade. This fully-waterproofed, open shower space combines accessibility and hygiene with style and one key component is expertly chosen tiles. Once you have had the tanking and a drainage system installed, with the right tile choice you’ll find the perfect finishing touch for a fully waterproof wet room.
With constant exposure to water, it’s crucial to pick water-resistant tiles, which are ultra-durable and will stand the test of time. Porcelain tiles make a great choice with a huge variety of styles from stone and marble to wood-e ect designs. Natural stone can add a spastyle finish to a wet room; these tiles need to be sealed regularly and they will require more maintenance. Mosaic tiles are another popular option, which add a luxurious element to any wet room design.
Don’t forget to factor in slip resistance as safety should be another priority for a wet room. Look for tiles with high slip-resistance ratings, such as R10 or higher. Also, consider textured tiles as this style helps to provide extra grip, which will be key for flooring.
Large-format tiles can work well in a wet room if you want to minimise grout lines. This is ideal if you love a minimalist look where style matters and can be more practical as this is where dirt can accumulate. Also, consider tiles with rectified edges (these are machine cut and produce tighter grout joints) as this enables less visible grout, which will ultimately leave your wet room looking fresh for longer.
If you are looking for an inclusive bathroom solution or simply want to future-proof your home, a wet room can also provide the perfect solution. The flooring tends to be level making them suitable for all ages and mobilities and you can easily incorporate fold-down seats or grab rails into your design.
Whatever your plans are for your wet room, from a spa-like retreat to a familyfriendly space, tiling is important in order to add functionality and enhance the look. Whether you prefer durable porcelain to intricately detailed mosaics, the right tiles will transform this space into a
practical, safe and stylish environment to escape to. So consider your tiles wisely and, with expert planning and highquality installation, your wet room will instantly add value to your home.

Another brick in the WALL
Billund in Denmark is the home of Lego – and it’s an excellent family destination for fans of the brick
By PENDLE HARTE
At the gate at Heathrow we’re surrounded by small children. It’s the first week of the Easter holidays and there’s only one reason for so many families to be flying to Billund, a small airport in the rural east of Denmark. In fact, it’s the same reason that the airport exists. Billund is the home of Lego, and the enduring appeal of the plastic brick has made this small town into an international destination. And today, the airport that was originally built to take Lego all over the world is now used to bring people to Lego. Not only is this the gateway to Legoland, but also to the
newer Lego House, a vast ‘experience centre’ dedicated entirely to the humble brick.
Thanks to Denmark’s e cient public transport system, we’re in the centre of Billund just a few minutes after landing. Actually, we could almost have walked here. Expecting Billund to be entirely Lego-themed, we're a bit surprised to find that there are no Lego street signs, theme cafes, shops or even billboards. Instead it’s a small, quiet place, quite short on restaurants and bars and dominated by a vast white monolith that turns out to be the Lego House. The Legoland theme park is on the outskirts of town, with its own hotel and eateries. Our hotel, The Lodge, is comfortable and surprisingly lacking in any
references to Lego, though we all know that everyone is here for the same reason. Once inside the Lego House, it all begins to make sense. It’s a whole Lego world, brilliantly presented to appeal to all ages, obviously to people already obsessed with Lego, but also to people who aren’t. It is a vast and cleverly designed building, a series of staggered blocks that itself resembles a series of Lego bricks. Inside the light and airy space are 25 million lego pieces, most of them here to be played with, spread over di erent colour-coded zones in light-filled areas. It could so easily be hell for parents and overwhelming for children, but thanks to its ingenious design, it’s not. You need a whole day to visit really, because
there are so many things to do. We start in the basement, where there’s an exhibition about the history of Lego. It’s a good story, and advertising artwork from the 80s, 90s and 00s will be familiar to most of the parents visiting. In brief, Lego was founded in 1932 by Billund carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen, and by 1980, it had become a global leader in the toy world.
On the first floor, there’s a spectacular model world in Lego. Elaborate miniature street scenes include cityscapes with moving trams, trains and buses; cranes and construction activity, fairgrounds with moving rides and flashing lights, ports with shipping containers loading and unloading, ski resorts with working cable cars, river cruises,

helipads –and everywhere are busy little Lego people sitting in cafes, getting into cars, buying flowers, sunbathing on rooftops, putting out fires, driving ambulances and loitering on Lego pavements. The detail is mindblowing.
Then there’s the stop-motion station, where we have 15 minutes to create a small film at individual stations, each with a selection of backdrops and various figures and costumes to work with. We choose the jungle, and are proud of our stop-motion version of I’m a Celebrity, complete with Ant and Dec, plus a few colourful characters arriving in style. Other activities include making lego fish and scanning them into a digital aquarium, constructing Lego flowers and adding them to a large display, and programming Lego robots. Everywhere are small Lego vignettes: recreations of historical interiors, say, or model trees made of millions of bricks, or enormous Lego dinosaurs, and there are lots of pieces submitted from Lego fans all over the world. A vast Lego waterfall is built from almost two million bricks.
Various stations - known as Creative Labsallow for free play with more bricks than anyone has ever had access to before, whether children want to contribute to communal creations or work on their own. And when hunger calls, there’s a Lego cafe, sta ed by Lego robots that deliver your food in large plastic bricks, and everyone takes home a small chef minifigure.
We leave with small paper bags containing freshly made Lego pieces that we’ve witnessed coming o a mini production line. “Lego is
“Lego is a language,” they say, and with its infinite potential for creativity and innovation, they’re not wrong”
a language,” they say, and with its infinite potential for creativity and innovation, they’re not wrong. We spend the best part of the day at Lego House, and as we exit the lift on the roof into the sunshine, the building comes into its own. Brightly coloured zones on di erent levels are dedicated as a series of playspaces in what feels like a futuristic otherworld with striking architectural beauty. Set against a blue sky, it’s an impressive sight. The next day we brave Legoland, which is a more relaxed version of the Windsor theme park of which we have varyingly positive recollections – but we much enjoy the model village that includes the Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, the Ei el Tower and other global icons alongside miniature versions of innovative modern European housing developments, Copenhagen’s Royal Palace and a working model of Billund airport itself, among other replicas. The roller coasters are fun, the queues are minimal and the whole experience is great. No wonder we encountered all those families at Heathrow –they knew that Billund is the place to be.

and endless
sunshine at two exclusive Mallorca hotels makes the perfect chill-out break
By SANDY CADIZ-SMITH
Spain’s beautiful Balearic Islands are steeped in myth and mystery. Mallorca, the largest of them, has long been a land of legends, with tales of hidden treasures and sea nymphs luring sailors to their fate.
It’s also bathed in sunshine, abounding in beautiful beaches (over 260 of them), home to over 20 renowned golf courses, and teeming with great hotels, restaurants, and bars. And to top it o , it’s only a short flight from the UK to Palma, the majestic and historic capital. That’s certainly enough to lure us there.
We’re longing for a complete getaway-from-itall escape to relax and recharge, so we’re starting at Zafiro Palace Andratx to indulge in their 'All Inclusive Redefined' package. The all-suite, luxury five-star hotel is set on high in the peaceful Camp de Mar area with great views of the lush mountains, golf course, and turquoise sea.
Our personal concierge, carrying glasses of
chilled Cava, greets us in the cool, cavernous reception area. She’s ever-present (in an unobtrusive sort of way) throughout our stay, ready to ensure our every wish is fulfilled.
There are 304 suites sprinkled through beautiful gardens punctuated by sparkling swimming pools and stylish restaurants and bars. The hotel’s ingenious layout gives it an air of exclusivity and serenity. It never feels overly busy, but more like our hidden haven in a secret village.
Especially in our luxurious Club Suite, which is spacious and light-filled with a large seating area, huge spa bath and balcony overlooking the private pool and bar areas below. And a large sparkling bathroom stocked with fragrant Jo Loves amenities.
There’s a tower of sweet treats, a gin and tonic corner, and a fully stocked mini bar to welcome us. We pour a gin and tonic as we unpack into the large walk-in wardrobe and ponder our next steps.
Zafiro Palace Andratx has eight di erent food and drink venues to relish. It’s a taste

of happiness on a journey around the world without leaving the embrace of our Mallorcan palace. The bountiful breakfast bu et selection at The Market is extraordinary. It’s a vibrant display of beauty and deliciousness that makes the perfect start to the day.
We love the gourmet signature cuisine of Mare Nostrum, Italian classics reinvented at La Veranda, Nikkei cuisine at Taste and Sushi, and premium cuts of meat at Caliu Steakhouse. It’s time to revel in long lazy lunches and elegant evening soirees with superlative service, exceptional wine, and panoramic views. And remember, it’s all-inclusive. And e ortless, as everything is only an easy walk away from our glorious suite.
It’s also a short stroll to the beach, or you can hop on one of the hotel’s Vespas (once again, included). But we’re focusing on some serious pool hopping. Because there are several pools and they’re all stunning. The sun loungers are
“It’s time to revel in long lazy lunches and elegant evening soirees”
like deluxe hotel beds, and each pool has a food truck and bar serving a range of refreshments. And we need to do some serious lengths to work o some of that irresistible food. Before the inevitable afternoon siesta. When in Spain…
After time at Zafiro Palace Andratx, it’s hard to imagine how life could get more relaxed. But we’re soon to find out that it most certainly can. We head inland to Son Sabater by Zafiro. This new boutique hotel is set in 20 hectares of countryside, surrounded by a forest of Mediterranean oaks. It’s like we’ve been transported to a Spanish (and luxurious) version of Narnia.
The finca dates back to the 16th century and has been restored using local materials, including the striking Mallorcan stone. It’s the epitome of rustic charm mixed with contemporary style, modern facilities, and friendly personal service. There are only 15 rooms. And did I mention it’s relaxing? We take long strolls, lie poolside (what is it about those pools), and enjoy authentic Mallorcan cuisine and cocktails al fresco. It’s the perfect way to end our stay.
Our two-centre Mallorcan idyll has been blissful and restorative. And we don’t want to lose that chilled-out state of mind. Because Mallorca is more than a destination, it’s a feeling.

Boarding
life at Marymount International School London – the pupils' view
B“A place filled with laughter, support, and global friendships”
organising themed movie nights or dance nights, cheering each other on through exams, or simply being there for one another, the spirit of community is constant and real. Boarding at Marymount has shaped who I am. It’s taught me how to lead with empathy, live with openness, and celebrate the strength in our di erences.
Yashvi, High School Student
oarding at Marymount is more than just living away from home; it’s about finding a new home in a place filled with laughter, support, and global friendships. As an Indian student and the current Boarding Council President, I’ve come to see boarding not just as a place to stay, but as a space that helps you grow into yourself and into a community. From the moment you step onto campus, there’s a sense of welcome in the air.
Whether it’s the comforting smiles of the boarding sta , late-night conversations in the lounges, or the joy of celebrating Holi alongside Christmas and Lunar New Year, Marymount boarding is where di erent cultures don’t just meet, we connect.
The diversity of the boarding community makes every dinner table conversation an opportunity to learn something new. What stands out most to me is how supported I’ve always felt by houseparents who genuinely care and by friends who have become family. Whether we are
That spirit of connection and shared joy continues daily on campus. The following is a glimpse into a Year 7 day in the life: I wake up at 7am when the alarms start ringing down the corridor. I get dressed quickly, still yawning, and head down for breakfast. The dining hall begins buzzing as we wake up more, filled with people laughing, swapping toast, and trying to look alive. Someone’s always forgotten their blazer! At 8:20, we walk to school. I go with my friends, and we’re in a rush because someone’s shoes have disappeared again – oops! Classes are usually fun, my favourites are drama and dance. In drama, we do improv games that make everyone crack up. In dance, we learn routines that make Mondays come alive. My teachers are strict but funny, and they totally get us.
Lunch is noisy and full of energy. Everyone rushes to get their food and find a table. It’s great because we sit with our friends, chill out and share random stories. Then we head to our afternoon classes. After school finishes at 4pm, I might go to rehearsal, dance club, or just relax on the lawns with friends.
Dinner is at 6, then we have study time. Prep is not my favourite thing, but it feels good to get it done. At 8pm we get snacks, hand in tech at 9, and by 9:30 we’re in bed – whispering and laughing, tired but ready for the week to come.

SPORT
FOR SUCCESS
Sport is great for health, but how does its competitive edge feed into a positive culture – helping young people to be part of something bigger and also achieve personal goals? Schools give us their take on its role in student success
Oakham School
At Oakham, sport is a fundamental part of school life. But Director of Sport Dr Iain Simpson says there’s something much more. “It provides a buzz to the school campus on match days when hundreds of pupils take to the playing fields, the pitches, the courts and the pool to compete.”
With around 50 inter-house sporting competitions each year, students are encouraged to take part and support their peers. All abilities get the chance to play against other schools – it’s as busy for the D team as their A team counterparts –all celebrated in the Oakhamian annual magazine via a season report. Oakham has many pupils playing for academies or on sporting pathways. “We formally support and recognise these achievements at our annual Sports Colours Presentation ceremony. When our 1st XV boys’ rugby team won the National Schools Cup at Twickenham for the third time in 2023, 850 pupils, parents and sta travelled to London to watch them compete,” says Iain Simpson. The school was also out in force when the U16 girls’ hockey team carried o silver in the Tier 1 National Cup Competition in March. Winning teams become role models, as do elite athletes at national and international level. “The most powerful role models are people like themselves,” says Iain Simpson. With that in mind, Oakham also celebrates alumni who have gone on to great things, inviting them back to give talks or run coaching sessions. And this has a massive impact. “For example, when England rugby player Jack Van Poortvliet returned to visit his old House and talk to pupils in Years 7 and 8, it was hugely motivational.”
Not everything ends in triumph – and Iain Simpson says it’s far better to have competitions that are closely fought, sometimes lost, when it comes to life lessons. “We reframe the idea of failing
and view it as simply not achieving everything that we set out to do,” he says. “It is really important that we challenge our pupils so that they encounter a mixture of success and failure and are equipped to react to both in a way that is reflective, positive and purposeful.”
This translates back into the classroom.
“As part of Oakham School’s Connected Curriculum, we overtly teach the skills, behaviours and habits that young people learn through sport,” he says.
“The child who learns to set targets and work hard towards challenges in their sporting environment, and to problem solve and overcome those challenges, is then equipped to do the same thing in the classroom and beyond.”
Reed’s School
At Reed’s in Surrey, there’s a long tradition of success in sport – with recent wins in areas such as hockey, tennis, ski racing, athletics and golf. But Director of Sport Andy Watts says that wins aren’t the only measure of success – and sometimes they aren’t the best measure. “Setting up fixtures that include challenge is vital, as it builds resilience, helps with problem solving and encourages di erent ways to overcome adversity.”
The school o ers team sports from A-F level and beyond, and with an expectation that all pupils are involved on Saturdays in First and Second Forms (Years 7 and 8). Coaching and facilities, and matching players to teams with comparable depth, support success and build skills. “Involvement in sport only enhances what happens in the classroom. Developing time management skills, working collaboratively with others and stepping out of your comfort zone can all contribute to academic progress,” he says.
Reed’s has highly ambitious pupils pursuing high-level sport. They may start their day in the gym, fitting in one-to-one technical sessions in their free periods and then committing evenings and weekends to training and competing “This level of dedication is one of the most impressive aspects of the modern pupil athlete,” says Andy Watts. But it isn’t just pupils pursuing elite sports pathways who commit

time to improve – the school has noticed increasing demand for its Strength & Conditioning programme across the cohort. Success is recognised weekly via assemblies. “Captains read out all results: the wins, draws and losses. It is important to recognise all competition and sometimes the best received reports are losses where teams have given their all. This public recognition is important,” says Andy Watt. Reed’s encourages young people to aspire to sports leadership roles, too. “The skill of coaches and teachers is to try and provide opportunity for success, but also learning how to deal with losing, coping with adversity and overcoming any fear of failure,” he says.
“Communication of selection is vital face-to-face, as indeed is rewarding e ort, not just the outcome.” He adds that it’s important not to shy away from the e ort involved. “Success isn’t just about winning, as nice as that is, it is about the hard work behind the scenes.”
Tonbridge School
At Tonbridge, sport is part of day-to-day life. “Sport is integral to our school’s ethos, with all students engaging in activities at least three times weekly,” says Director of Sport Chris Morgan. “We believe it fosters character development, o ering equal opportunities for personal growth regardless of skill level or team a liation.”
National and international achievements significantly influence Tonbridge students’ enthusiasm about sport. All the better when you have alumni to get behind. Current OTs shining bright include Ben Earl in rugby and Zak Crawley in cricket – both now England regulars. “They serve as inspiring role models, driving increased interest and participation,” adds Chris Morgan. Those on a potential elite sports pathway receive tailored support through the school’s mentorship programme. This includes guidance from performance coaches and sta members who have navigated similar elite challenges. “This holistic approach prepares students to aim high while equipping them with strategies to manage setbacks.”
Winners and losers both deserve positive feedback, and the focus here is on building a supportive culture. “Coaches, supported by teachers, provide context and understanding, emphasising the broader educational value of sports,” says Chris Morgan. The Tonbridge team know that the lessons learnt in sport translate into the classroom and help students confront fear of failure. “These sports experiences equip them with
essential life skills, fostering adaptability and perseverance in facing challenges.”
Not every child can be (or aspires to be) top in games. “We promote a culture that values participation and emphasises the broader benefits of sports,” says Chris Morgan. There are some 20 on o er here – all the mainstream choices plus more o beat options such as fives, ultimate frisbee and rackets. In the ‘major’ sports, the school regularly fields 25 rugby teams, 14 hockey teams, 17 football teams and 17 cricket sides on weekend fixtures.
Tonbridge’s ultimate aim is to engender a love of sport that lasts into adult life. By that measure, they are definitely winners. “The OT cricket side has won the Cricketer Cup more than any other school, the OT Golf side has won the prestigious Halford Hewitt the most times and the OT football club has continued to grow in recent years and now, on a weekly basis, fields two sides,” says Chris Morgan.
“It is important that pupils encounter a mixture of success and failure and react in a way that is positive”
Malvern College
While there has always been a tradition at independent schools of playing to win, at Malvern College there is recognition that there’s a much broader purpose and meaning to success. Silverware still counts, but the primary intention of the school, alongside the fun and the health benefits of sport, is to develop personal qualities. Training is designed to develop collaborative skills and encourage students to compete but still show empathy for others.
The school believes that playing sport, whether at elite or recreational level, is a means of developing both talent and character. Challenging games teach transferable skills and wider intelligence. Malvern College is, of course, proud of those who shine at elite level.
Upper Sixth pupil Noah Goryn is part of British Fencing’s athlete development programme. He has balanced studying for his IB Diploma while winning gold at the British Youth Championships. The College sees the benefits beyond his sporting achievements in this opportunity to travel, developing his cultural intelligence and language skills. He’s also managed nutrition, sleep and wellbeing practices that are hugely beneficial to preparing for exams.
Last year, Fergus Morris and Will Clayton donned the striped shirts of the
RACE TO THE LINE AT MALVERN COLLEGE
U18 Barbarians Rugby Club. The sports team at Malvern College say they reap the benefits of these school successes because when a pupil trains with a specialist coach or team, they bring these skills back with them. Also, the skills are hugely transferable in learning and life situations.
Daisy Tuthill, who plays hockey for Wales U18, models the skills of organisation, selfregulation and discipline on a daily basis as a College Prefect. She was nominated by her boarding house because she’s admired as a role model. And when Old Malvernian Rose Harvey made headline news as ‘The Covid Lawyer turned Olympic Runner’ she demonstrated to students at the school how the skills and qualities that bring success in life and work sit hand-in-hand with the skills and qualities needed by an elite athlete.
Wycli e College
Sport is integral at Wycli e College – from prep to the top of the Senior school – says Director of Sport Ben Taylor. “Pupils have a huge variety of opportunities to play competitively, but also engage in a wide variety of co-curricular sporting activities that cater for our culturally diverse community.”
He believes there has been a shift in the way young people view elite sport, perhaps due to social media. “Reels of goals, tries and celebrations are a great motivator, but can also provide pupils with an unrealistic perception of what sport might be like.” Wycli e’s approach helps to counteract that medals and glory perspective. “The highlight of the school sporting calendar is our ‘Legacy Sports Day’ held before our Athletics Sports Day,” says Ben Taylor. “No one can play a sport that they have competed for school in before and must try something new. This creates a brilliant level playing field.” With all the traditional sports on
tap, Wycli e has also diversified to ensure everyone finds something they enjoy.
There are many pupils at the school who are on elite pathways, supported through its scholarship programme.
Wraparound care includes a strength and conditioning coach, physio and sports therapists. There’s also nutrition advice and access to sports psychologists. “Current professional players from di erent sports come in throughout the year to talk to pupils about their journey and give the pupils real world advice,” adds Ben Taylor.
Inevitably, elite pathway can bring setbacks. Then the team help students to either progress or use this setback as a learning opportunity. Disappointment doesn’t just happen at the elite end – so there’s an important balance to be struck. “We encourage all pupils to look deeper into their losses and use them as a development tool. There is no straight line to success and if we can help pupils to understand this then the benefits can be seen in all areas of their sporting and academic lives.”
Kew House School
Sport fosters a sense of community at Kew House. Celebrating wins, supporting teams and individuals, and recognising achievements all promote a positive culture around sport – also reinforcing ideas around teamwork, dedication and perseverance. But the school believes it’s also vital to teach children that failure is a natural part of both sport and life. The emphasis here is on e ort rather than simply outcome – teachers and coaches provide constructive feedback to help young people cope with setbacks and build resilience. Their support is designed to help young people to reflect, set realistic goals and focus on continuous improvement. This fits one of the mantras of Kew House: ‘What can I do di erently next time?’. Not all children are naturally gifted at sport, and there’s emphasis on inclusivity and variety – helping children discover sports and activities they enjoy and may excel in. That’s why the school maintains a compulsory curriculum time for girls and boys to be playing together in Core PE lessons. The school adds it’s important that young people learn to appreciate playing sport together throughout Years 7 to 11.
The sports team know that providing a variety of choices of sport, emphasising skills development over competition, and giving encouragement to less able or willing students, works. It’s about reinforcing the value of participation and personal improvement rather than just winning. All abilities get the opportunity to participate in interschool fixtures against carefully matched teams throughout the school year to highlight the fun and camaraderie of a competitive sporting environment.
KEW HOUSE SCHOOL ROWING
WYCLIFFE HOCKEY
For Kew House students on an elite sports pathway, there’s the Top Performing Athlete Program (TPAP), with guidance on goal setting, time management and coping with setbacks such as injury or de-selection. It includes advice around physical development – including the importance of continuing education, maintaining wellbeing and building life skills to prepare for alternative pathways and a future beyond sports. The results for Kew House students have ranged from an international wake-boarding champion to girls and boys winning places in football academies across west London. Rowing is also developing into a key strength.
The team say that sport is a vibrant element of the school community, but also helps to shape young people’s attitudes, skills and values by enabling them to to promote their personal development and ability to thrive in the future.
Concord College
At Concord College sport is used to broaden the international cohort’s experience and present alternative challenges. It is also a key tool to help young people manage their physical and mental health. The focus is giving each student the opportunity to play sports they enjoy and at a level they choose. It’s also a key area of House competitions, so a vehicle for friendly rivalry and relationship building.
Every Wednesday there are varied games sessions for Years 9 to 11. All students have a ‘twilight’ programme available in their 4pm activity time, while boarders attend one ‘sports prep’ a week where they choose their own activity. Wins and achievements are celebrated school-wide – and via social media as many parents are international. Concord College recently made it to the Society of Heads U18 National Cup Final for football for the first time – taking many supporters along to cheer on the team.
With such a diverse community, the sports team at Concord College also see diverse attitudes to sporting fails. They place emphasis on personal growth and persistence. This is all supported by the adventurous outdoor programme, which uses the fantastic local landscape to expose young people to carefully supported challenges. The repeated
practice needed to master a new sport or face an unfamiliar challenge such as abseiling is a great resource to draw on in class.
Concord College’s highly successful DofE programme dovetails with sport and outdoor education – last year four students achieved gold and one became a DofE Ambassador. Such challenges help students deal with stress, learn teamwork and find out more about their own capabilities. Reflection and goal setting are also carried back to class. Sta and pastoral teams make sure they celebrate determination and ability to get back up and try again alongside every success.
Some students join Concord in Year 9 unable to swim or ride a bike and the progress to National Lifeguard Qualification or mountain biking can be a milestone achievement. Others join with high sports aspirations and, while there are no sports scholarships here, the elite programme provides sta mentoring and specialist support. There have been high achievers in many fields, from cricket to fencing, Formula 4 and golf. Last year, Concord came top in the county for basketball and fielded successful badminton and table tennis teams. And a Year 13 runner scooped a Welsh national fell running championship and now has an Oxford Blue in cross country. Another Year 12 student has just brought home a silver medal for Singapore in a major men’s windsurfing competition.

MINI MATCHING
Absolutely Mama Editor Carly Glendinning
on her favourite summer mama and mini outfits
Ihave always loved the idea of outfit matching. If you’re a child of the noughties I understand why it might bring back slightly cringey memories of Britany and Justin or Posh n’ Becks. But for me it’s all about making your little one feel secure, like they are part of a tribe. My daughter is really close in age to her cousins and my sister and I have been buying identical dresses for them since they were babies. But when it comes to mama and mini dressing, I like to co-ordinate with my daughter, rather than wear exactly the same outfit. Here’s five matchy, but not matching outfits we’ll be wearing on our holiday this summer.

SCANDI FEEDING
The Scandinavian mum’s guide to stress-free and stylish baby feeding
When it comes to raising calm, contented babies, Scandinavian mums are quietly leading the way, and baby feeding is no exception. Rooted in a culture that values balance, equality and beautiful functionality, feeding in Nordic homes is approached with the same gentle rhythms and e ortless style that define the Scandi lifestyle.
Gentle routines, zero guilt
In Scandinavia, there’s less pressure around how you feed your baby, and more focus on what works best for your family. Whether breastfeeding, bottle-feeding or a combination of both, the key is comfort and flexibility.
“Scandi mums are generally very relaxed about feeding,” explains Dr. Elin Sørensen, Infant Feeding Specialist. “The most important thing is that both baby and parent feel comfortable. A good bottle should mimic breastfeeding, support a healthy sucking
technique, and be easy to handle and clean.”
It’s a mindset reflected in the popularity of brands like BIBS, whose baby bottles are found in many Nordic homes. Available in glass or BPA-free PP, with both latex and silicone options, BIBS bottles are designed to support natural feeding while fitting seamlessly into stylish, modern spaces.
Shared feeding, Scandinavian-style
“BIBS bottles are designed to support natural feeding.”
Another defining feature of Scandi parenting is how involved dads are from the start.
With generous parental leave and a strong culture of co-parenting, bottle-feeding is often embraced as a shared experience.
“It’s very normal here for dads to take night feeds, prepare bottles and be hands-on,” says Ida Lunde, a mother of two in Oslo. “Feeding is seen as something you do together.”
BIBS bottles, with their minimalist aesthetic, ergonomic shape and dishwashersafe design, help make that shared role feel smooth and stress-free.
Functional and beautiful
Scandi parents favour baby gear that’s as beautiful as it is practical. Think soft tones, clean lines and products that don’t scream ‘baby’.
“For me, it wasn’t just about function – it had to look right in our home,” says Ida. “I wanted something I didn’t mind leaving on the kitchen counter.”
With timeless hues and design-led details, BIBS baby bottles reflect the Nordic love of calm, quality, and products that quietly support family life.

Your Family, Your Bottle
No two families are the same, so why should their bottles be?
TOUGH When times are
How play therapy could help your family through difficult periods
Parenting is not easy at the best of times. Sometimes help from outside our families, from a trained therapist, is what is needed. This may be in order to make sense of di cult feelings, to understand and help develop relationships, or to come to grips with things that have happened that at the moment are holding us or our children back.
Early trauma, illness, bereavement, a new addition to the family, or parental separation, can all be examples of times that put strains on parent and child relationships or how a child is feeling.
Play therapists* are trained to work specifically with children. They use art and play materials in their work with children and families, as the primary means of expression. This is because talking about problems can be hard for children.A child may not have the words to describe how they are feeling, or why they are behaving as they do. A child may not be able to recognise what they find di cult or
explain it to someone if asked. Play therapy provides the expertise and time to do this through play. We can then reflect on the artwork or play together and come to understand what issues were expressed through the process.
The mental health of 72% of children improves after play therapy. This increases to 82% for those with higher needs at the time of referral. (playtherapyuk, April 2025)
“The mental health of 72% of children improves after play therapy.”

W-Wellness personalised consulation
Reviewed by CARLY GLENDINNING
Motherhood, moving house, and the start of perimenopause have all had me feeling a little o -balance. From hormonal fluctuations, to tired skin, I had a general sense that my body needed a reset. So when W-Wellness, a personalised wellbeing platform, o ered me a consultation with one of their nutritional therapists, I booked in straightaway. The lovely Erin took time to listen as I outlined my wellbeing concerns. What impressed me most was her holistic and evidence-based approach. Erin suggested some key areas to explore further with
my GP, explaining how functional nutrition can work hand-in-hand with conventional medicine. She also recommended two supplements to help support my goals: Nuchido Time+, a cuttingedge NAD booster designed to support cellular energy and healthy ageing, and Ancient + Brave’s Collagen, known for its benefits to skin, hair and joints. I came away a tailored plan I could realistically follow. W-Wellness is an excellent resource for any new mum seeking expert, personalised support, not just for postpartum recovery, but for long-term wellbeing too. £50; w-wellness.co.uk
DrMediSpa EMSELLA Pelvic Floor Treatment
Reviewed by CARLY GLENDINNING
I’m four years post-partum, and thanks to yoga and Pilates I can happily do a star jump without issue. However, my pelvic floor still isn’t quite as strong as it was pre-birth. If you’re not very good at keeping up with your Kegels (like me), then there is another option. I visited DrMediSpa’s stylish Knightsbridge clinic to try the genius EMSELLA Pelvic Floor Treatment. “This is one of our highest satisfaction procedures”, my therapist told me as she showed me into the treatment room. Each 28 minute session is the equivalent of 11,000 pelvic floor tenses, and most people book in for a course of six treatments. The HIFEM procedure is completely noninvasive and there’s no downtime. All I had to do was centre myself on the chair as the electromagnetic technology stimulated my pelvic floor muscles. It feels a little strange, but not painful at all and the time passed quickly as I chatted to my lovely therapist. After just one treatment, I’ve had no leaks (hooray!) and I’d 100% recommend EMSELLA to any new mamas su ering post-vaginal birth. drmedispa.com

LIVING SPACES
Where the sea whispers style... a Dubai life designed by BEYOND
Some places don’t just transform the view, they reset the rhythm of life.
Coastal calm. Refined design. Space to breathe. In Dubai’s most inspiring enclaves, BEYOND Developments is creating more than homes. It is shaping living experiences where elegance, nature, and emotion converge.
Along Dubai’s coastline, where the sea meets the sky and mornings begin with light shimmering across the water, a new kind of lifestyle unfolds. Here, waterfront living goes beyond location. It’s a feeling. A sense of stillness and space. A place where home is not just where you live, but how you live.
DESIGN THAT LIVES AND BREATHES
BEYOND projects are composed with purpose. Each one blends proportion, light, and character, turning physical form into lived experience.
Our 8 million square foot Dubai Maritime City
is a destination in itself, one where urban energy and natural beauty meet. With a curated forest, a vibrant waterfront promenade, and residences shaped around how people actually live, the plan reflects BEYOND’s commitment to crafting communities that evolve with market needs.
ARCHITECTURAL ICONS BY THE WATER
• The Mural is a 36-storey sculptural icon in Dubai Maritime City. It o ers panoramic views of the water and skyline, while its sky terraces, wellness spaces, and co-working lounges elevate the everyday into something extraordinary.
• Sensia brings a sense of timeless coastal beauty, blending Art Deco curves with lush gardens and horizon-edge pools. Every detail, from open-air dining spaces to its graceful façade, is designed to soften and soothe.
• Orise expresses calm through fluid lines, expansive terraces, and tranquil interiors. Whether a penthouse or

• Saria brings a bold presence to the Marina promenade, with wraparound balconies and cinematic interiors designed to capture natural light.

Dubai has matured into a global lifestyle capital. It o ers more than infrastructure and year-round sun. What defines it now is harmony, a rare blend of cultural richness, stability, and progressive design thinking.
The city continues to lead globally, o ering zero income tax, Golden Visa pathways, and visionary urban governance.
Ranked among the world’s top-performing prime residential markets, Dubai has seen growing interest from UK buyers seeking portfolio diversification, second homes, or permanent relocation.
With direct flights from London, top international schools, and worldclass healthcare, Dubai is more than a smart investment. It is a meaningful choice for those imagining where to live, grow, or retire.
A LIFESTYLE DESIGNED WITH INTENTION
At the heart of this vision is BEYOND, a real estate brand born in Dubai with a bold perspective on coastal living. By combining artistry with a human-centric approach, BEYOND is redefining how spaces feel, function, and inspire.
Every project is shaped by five principles: iconic locations, sculptural design, immersive greenery, thoughtful planning, and elevated experiences. The result is a collection of communities that feel personal and global at once, timeless in form, soulful in energy, and built for belonging.
Our presence extends to global cultural platforms that reflect our values. As the O cial Real Estate Partner of Ascot and Royal Ascot, and through strategic collaborations with the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards, BEYOND is engaging with the world’s most prestigious events. These partnerships reflect our bold vision to create spaces and stories that move the world forward, where design, performance, and human experience intersect.
This is more than real estate. It is an invitation to live with intention. To wake up by the sea and move through beautifully composed spaces. With much more on the horizon, BEYOND continues to expand its coastal footprint with the same guiding vision.
Because when life moves with the tide, everything finds its natural rhythm.
SKY HIGH
The vertical village redefining luxury living in the heart of Kensington – a bold new chapter in London’s residential evolution
Introducing 100 Kensington - a landmark £500 million vertical village that will redefine the West London skyline, the only development of its kind in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Creating 462 new homes, including 276 market sale residences, this visionary scheme is being delivered by leading developers SevenCapital and MARK Capital Management. Together they are redefining modern urban living, blending history, design excellence and community, into a truly exceptional address.
Set on a 1.7-hectare site that was once part of Oliver Cromwell’s hunting grounds and later Prince Albert’s 'Albertopolis' vision, the area will now be transformed into a thriving, dynamic residential quarter just minutes from Holland Park, Kensington High Street and London’s Museum Quarter.
The masterplan for 100 Kensington was created by John McAslan & Partners, with detailed design by Corstorphine & Wright, harmonising seven buildings into a stunning new urban oasis. The architecture draws upon Kensington’s rich Victorian and Edwardian traditions, while embracing contemporary modernity, forming a striking new architectural gateway to Kensington.
At its heart is a 29-storey tower, the tallest residential structure in the borough, accompanied by six other meticulously crafted buildings bisected by a linear central garden, with further roof gardens and terraces.
The residences at 100 Kensington are designed for discerning occupants, with Conran & Partners curating interior concepts
inspired by local culture and heritage. Ranging from 540 sq. ft. to 1,776 sq. ft. these thoughtfully crafted homes o er a variety of layouts, from studio apartments to expansive three-bedroom duplex penthouses.
Buyers can expect meticulous attention to detail: herringbone timber floors, co ered ceilings with feature lighting, and dual-aspect reception rooms that open onto Juliet or step-out balconies. Full-height windows bathe each space in natural light, revealing sweeping views of the London skyline.
Kitchens provide a refined take on the classic shaker style, featuring Caesarstone worktops, luxury appliances and bespoke timber veneer cabinetry. In select apartments, utility rooms add a level of convenience rarely found in central London developments.
Principal bedrooms continue the theme of luxury, o ering plush carpeting, custom-
“Blending history, design excellence and community into an exceptional address”
built wardrobes, and ensuite bathrooms that rival five-star hotels with large-format marble e ect porcelain tiles, rainfall showers and bespoke vanity units. Every inch designed for both form and function.
Residents enter the self-contained vertical village through a soaring seven-metre-high lobby on the third-level podium, ensuring enhanced privacy and security. Here, concierge services and a stylish residents’ lounge set the tone for the experience that lies ahead.
The stunning central linear garden, 173 metres long and 18 metres wide, acts as the green heart of 100 Kensington in addition to being a space in which residents can relax and engage. Created by award-winning landscape architects IDP, the garden includes pathways, ornamental planting, sculpture by artist David Harber, and seasonal flower displays.
Elevated amenities are a key hallmark of the scheme. A glass-walled pavilion accommodates up to 60 guests for cinema screenings or private events, while a wellness-focused leisure centre provides a gym, 20-metre swimming pool, and fitness studios, all available to residents.
The central tower showcases a stone-like façade with chamfered windows for solar shading, Juliet balconies and perforated aluminium panels for natural ventilation.
The three mansion buildings echo historical Kensington residences with brick facades, stone banding and inset balconies, while the stepped façade buildings fronting Beckford Close bring variation and rhythm to the streetscape.
100 Kensington will also deliver a meaningful contribution to the local community, providing 186 a ordable homes, including family-
sized townhouses. High-quality design and workmanship throughout the development and integration of tenures, supports a genuinely inclusive urban community. Situated within a 10-minute walk of Earl’s Court, West Kensington, and Kensington Olympia stations, 100 Kensington o ers enviable connectivity. Cultural institutions like the V&A, Natural History Museum, and Science Museum are moments away, while a range of retail and dining locations are all within easy access. From the vibrancy of buzzing Kensington High Street and South Kensington to the luxury fashion and fine dining of Knightsbridge, residents are spoilt for choice. Potential residents can immerse themselves in 100 Kensington and experience fine apartment living, by visiting the 100 Kensington marketing suite at Kensington High Street. Visitors will find a tabletop model that sets out the scheme clearly, supported by an interactive digital presentation that allows visitors to admire not only the layout out and design, but also the views. A full-scale show apartment is also available to view, replicating the exact finishes and design details of the completed market sale apartments.
