North & Elsewhere

THE Belli Community Hall will host its annual Locals Launch Music Night on May 21 featuring Sunny Coast Duo North & Elsewhere. Their songs capture audiences with heartfelt stories of fights for social justice, their own battles with mental health, mother earth and the simple joys of life. Multi award-winning songwriters, sisters Hazel and Roanna released their debut EP Finding Space last November.
Lineage - a Father and Daughter duo, Steve and Emily from Kenilworth, will mix up their set by playing all the best Jazz, Blues and Rock to appease any crowd. A well-rehearsed covers band, Emily’s amazing voice makes every song her own.
The Blue Grass Guys - from Yandina - will perform their dinner slot, with their toe tapping Blue-grass. The feedback from last year was they need a larger spot on the playbill!

The Hillbilly Goats bringing mountain music to Eumundi
FESTIVAL favourites, Golden Fiddle recipients, and four-time ‘Bluegrass’ Golden Guitar finalists, The Hillbilly Goats are bringing their mountain music and harmonies to The Imperial Hotel on Friday May 27.
Featuring banjo, bones, double bass, fiddle, tap dancing, three-part harmonies and stories, The Hillbilly Goats transport you on a journey of the history of mountain music’s evolution into blues, country and bluegrass. These guys aren’t just a band – they’re a show!
The Goats are passionate in their research and delivery of old time traditional folk music, sharing the mountain music that began in the late 1600’s when the Scots Irish immigrants first settled in the Appalachian Mountains of America.
The mountain music story progresses through the Africans bringing the banjo up to the Blue Ridge in the 1860’s, through the evolution into country music (1927), and then bluegrass in the late 1930’s.
In researching music that’s almost lost and rearranging it to record and present to live audiences, The Goats are keeping old folk music alive for future generations. Their musical twist on traditional songs – with big harmonies, a heavy presence of hard fiddle and fast harmonica – have seen them carve their own niche at major festivals nationwide.
Each member is their own character to love. You’ll see Goat Girl running through the crowd rattling the bones; Goat Boy playing three instruments at once (drums with his feet, banjo in hand and harmonica on a brace); while the Giddy Goat dances up a storm - while playing fiddle flat out! Tickets: Pre-sale $25 (+ booking fee) through Oztix. 18+ event. Doors open 7.30pm. The Imperial Hotel’s FREE courtesy bus operates Friday and Saturday nights from 5pm. Phone 0467 414 171 to book.

ROMANTIC ILLUSIONS
PACIFIC Chamber Players second concert series for 2022 is an allRomantic affair featuring works for woodwind and piano. From 1830 – 1900 music had a subjective bent with an emphasis on sound and the expression of one’s feelings. The ensemble’s programme will include works by French, German, and English composers such as the gorgeous Caprice Op 79 and Bassoon Sonata by SaintSaëns, Schumann’s highly expressive Fantasy Pieces Op 73 for clarinet and Elgar’s very English Six Promenades.
The programme will feature mother
and daughter flautists Sharelle and Jazzi Guest performing François Doppler’s Andante and Rondo Op 25. Sharelle has been performing with Pacific Chamber Players since 2005 and it is fantastic to include her daughter who is also a superb Sharelle and Jazzi player. Romantic Illusions will be held 2.30pm Sunday May 15 at Cooroy Memorial Hall. The concert will be preceded by a very informative talk by former ABC producer Nancy Tow at 2pm.
