Breathing New Life Into a Landmark: The Royal Nawaab Pyramid Transformation

- ROYAL NAWAAB PYRAMID -

The iconic Stockport glass pyramid, referred to locally as the 7th wonder of the world stood empty for almost seven years, before its £15M transformation, to create the spectacular Royal Nawaab Pyramid, a world-class banqueting and dining destination.

This ambitious development was led by awardwinning restaurant group Royal Nawaab in collaboration with WDC Creative. Together, they set out to reimagine the 86,000 sq ft structure into an exceptional venue, capable of hosting 2,000

guests for weddings, celebrations, and dining on a grand scale. With a vision to create not just a restaurant, but a true landmark, the interiors were designed to balance luxury with practicality, drawing inspiration from Royal Nawaab’s rich heritage of Indian and Pakistani cuisine. As Europe’s largest restaurant concept of its kind,

the Royal Nawaab Pyramid has recently been shortlisted for the 2025 Brit List Award for Best Bar and Restaurant Design.

Newmor Wallcoverings played a key role in the project, supplying a mix of bespoke designs and stylish standard collections to complement the Pyramid’s bold architecture. Selected for both their aesthetic and performance qualities, the wallcoverings support the operational demands of such a high-capacity venue while creating a luxurious backdrop for unforgettable events.

Rose Campbell, Head of Design and Marketing at Newmor, explains, “We collaborated closely with WDC creative to realise the ambitious transformation of the iconic, long-neglected

Stockport Pyramid, setting a new benchmark for destination dining and events.

As a proud Mancunian, who drives past the Pyramid several times a week, I’ve felt personally invested in this project. WDC and the team at the Royal Nawaab have done a truly exceptional job bringing this building back to life, and the food is amazing!”

Jason West, Managing Director of WDC Creative, added: “As a trusted supplier, Newmor Wallcoverings played a key role in the Royal Nawaab Pyramid project, helping us bring our vision to life. Using both bespoke designs and stylish standard collections, they delivered with speed, agility and unwavering quality. We look forward to continuing our collaboration on future projects, both on land and at sea.”

The final result is a truly magnificent venue, layered with rich materials, bespoke craftsmanship and design-led finishes. It is far more than a regional special events and restaurant space. The Royal Nawaab Pyramid is a destination set to attract visitors from across the UK and beyond to experience exceptional cuisine in one of the North West’s most striking architectural buildings.

Mahboob Hussain, Founder of the Royal Nawaab, shared his thoughts, “The WDC Creative team has done a truly phenomenal job bringing our vision to life at Royal Nawaab Pyramid. Their creativity, attention to detail, and deep understanding of the cultural and emotional atmosphere we wanted to create have surpassed all expectations. But beyond the stunning design, their dedication truly set them apart; ready to help, advise, and support at every stage. We are incredibly proud of the beautiful result; they have not just designed a space; they have crafted an unforgettable experience. We couldn’t be happier with their work.”

Locke De Santa Joana: A Contemporary Hotel Between Memory and Light

In the heart of Lisbon, nestled between archaeological remnants and the vibrant energy of the Portuguese capital, Locke de Santa Joana, designed by studio Uncanny, embodies a contemporary vision of hospitality. Spread across a remarkable 21,706-square-metre site, this 371-room hotel offers an immersive experience where design, local culture, and craftsmanship harmoniously intertwine. Églantine Sicat and Pauline Dellemotte led the artistic direction of the public spaces, as well as the bespoke furniture, overall styling, and art curation for the rooms. This work was carried out in collaboration with studio LRV, responsible for the project’s interior architecture.

A Tribute to Lisbon and Its Craftsmanship

In this sensitive reinterpretation of a historic site, Uncanny has embraced an emotional approach to design, inspired by Lisbon’s unique light. Vibrant colours, tactile materials, bold textures— each element pays homage to the identity of the

building while celebrating the dialogue between past and present. Marble sourced directly from the Estremoz quarries and warm, dark woods flow throughout the spaces. Bespoke furniture, crafted in the Porto region, sits alongside Moroccan artisanal pieces from the Ourika Valley: zellige and wrought-iron tables, straw light fittings, terracotta amphorae…craftsmanship is celebrated here with genuine authenticity. Textiles have been meticulously selected: short-pile velvet, natural

leathers, straw, rattan, and striped outdoor fabrics have been sourced from discerning suppliers including Casamance, Lelièvre, Misia, Dedar, Kvadrat, Nobilis, Camengo, and Yarn Collective.

Eclectic Furniture: Uniting Contemporary Creations and Vintage Pieces

Through this project, Uncanny has created an open aesthetic vocabulary, grounded in the present yet infused with the memory of the place. This is evident in the carefully chosen furniture, featuring pieces from Muuto, Petite Friture, Frama CPH, Popus Edition, Dooq, 101 CPH, alongside a significant selection of restored vintage items. The Listening Bar is a perfect example, with nearly all its furniture sourced from vintage markets in collaboration with Selency.

A Collection of Vibrant and Local Art

Rather than a museum-like approach, Uncanny opted for an artistic curation rooted in Lisbon, collaborating with local artists and artisans. Caroline Vaz created a large-scale tapestry for the Santa Joana Restaurant, while Grau Cerâmica designed wall sculptures and ceramics for the rooms. Azure Art explores concrete through sensitive artworks, and Pareidolla Design introduces an organic dimension with ochre

ceramics. Subtle nods to London appear through works by Anna Beam, adding cosmopolitan touches throughout.

A place imbued with life, poetry and narrative

Locke de Santa Joana is far more than a hotel: it is a contemporary refuge, a place for exploration and contemplation, where every space invites wandering, curiosity, and emotion. Through meticulous attention to materials, textures, objects, and artworks, Uncanny has captured the soul of the site in a vibrant visual narrative, true to the spirit of Locke: a free, sensory lifestyle inspired by local culture.

Your Guests Deserve Award-Winning Sleep

Sleep as a Selling Point: How Traceable British Wool Mattresses Elevate Guest Experience

In hospitality, differentiation lies not only in décor or service, but in the quality of sleep you deliver. A guest’s memory of a hotel often begins and ends with how well — or poorly — they slept. For independent hotels, boutique inns, and premium B&Bs wanting to stand out in a crowded market, the bed itself becomes a silent ambassador.

That’s why Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co. is bringing its award-winning British wool mattresses to the forefront of hospitality innovation — marrying provenance, natural performance, and guest delight.

Provenance and trust behind every fibre

Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co.’s mattresses are built around a powerful narrative of traceability and craftsmanship. Each mattress is filled with fleece from a single named British farm, never blended with bulked supplies. This “one-farm-at-a-time” approach ensures that every mattress carries a verifiable origin—from pasture to workshop— making claims of “traceable wool” more than just marketing rhetoric.

The brand has earned accolades, including the 2024 Made in Britain Award for Supply Chain Excellence, and was shortlisted for the 2025 Wool Innovation Award. Such recognition underscores that they are not simply crafting luxury mattresses, but doing so with excellence in sourcing and transparency.

For a hotelier, that means you can credibly share with your guests where their mattress came from — a growing touchpoint for guests who care about authenticity, sustainability, and ethical supply chains.

Natural wellbeing: why wool works for sleep

The technical performance of wool is a compelling selling point in a hospitality context:

• Thermoregulation & moisture management: Wool naturally wicks moisture away from the body and resists heat retention, helping to

maintain a comfortable microclimate across all seasons.

• Pressure relief and buoyancy: With its handteased layering, wool provides a springy cushioning effect that works in harmony with the mattress springs to relieve pressure points without feeling overly soft or “mushy.”

• Hypoallergenic and hygienic properties: Wool is naturally resistant to dust mites and less hospitable to allergenic organisms, creating a healthier sleep environment.

Fire resistance without harsh chemicals: Wool’s natural flame-retardant properties reduce the need for synthetic chemical treatments—a compelling advantage in hospitality settings often constrained by fire safety requirements.

These attributes aren’t just comfortable features — they translate into fewer guest complaints, lower perceived room humidity, and longer intervals between refurbishment.

Craftsmanship that endures — and impresses

Unlike mass-produced mattresses, each Wrought Iron & Brass mattress is hand-stitched, with authentic hand side stitching that reinforces edge stability and shape retention. In practice, this means guests can sleep confidently across the full width of the bed without “roll-off” or sagging edges — especially important in high-turnover hospitality environments.

Their collections span Natural Comfort, Bedstead, Signature, and the special Sandringham Collection,

allowing hoteliers to scale across budgets while preserving consistency in feel and quality. Each mattress is built to last. The brand offers extended guarantees (some models promising longevity up to 30 years), reflecting confidence in materials and workmanship.

Commercial hospitality advantages & guest delight

From the perspective of a hotel owner or operations manager, these wool mattresses bring measurable benefits:

1. Elevated guest reviews & word-of-mouth - Guests love a night’s sleep that surprises them. Investing in a reputation for exceptional rest can translate directly into higher review scores (TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Google) and repeat bookings.

2. Reduced maintenance and refresh costsBecause wool resists sagging, moisture damage, and microbial degradation, the usable life of a mattress can be extended, reducing replacement cycles and lifecycle costs.

3. Branded storytelling - The provenance story— “your mattress came from the flock at X farm”— gives a rich storytelling hook you can embed in in-room collateral, staff briefings, or digital marketing.

4. Sustainability credentials - Eco-conscious travellers increasingly base choices on sustainability. A mattress that is traceable, natural, biodegradable, and chemical-lite supports a property’s ESG narrative without compromising comfort.

5. Consistency of comfort across propertiesBecause Wrought Iron & Brass offers multiple “feel” levels (1 to 5) rather than ambiguous “soft/ medium/firm,” hotel groups or multi-property operators can standardise a guest experience (for example, always “No. 3 feel”) even across varied room categories.

Implementation best practice

To integrate such premium mattresses into a hospitality setting:

• Pilot a flagship room or suite: Let guests experience and provide direct feedback before rolling it out widely.

• Train front-line staff: Empower staff to speak to the mattress provenance and benefits.

• Include in bedding narrative: Place a card in the room explaining the traceable wool story, natural benefits, and your commitment to guest wellbeing.

Rotate and maintain: While many models are non-turn, rotation is recommended; follow care guidelines to maximise lifespan.

Conclusion

In the competitive world of hospitality, you can differentiate through design, service, or cuisine — but the greatest opportunity often lies beneath the sheets.

Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co.’s traceable British wool mattresses marry authentic provenance, natural wellness performance, and enduring craftsmanship. A guest who wakes refreshed, who remarks on “best night’s sleep ever,” becomes your silent brand ambassador.

For hoteliers who understand that sleep is your most direct service offering, investing in such an extraordinary mattress is not just a capital expense — it’s a strategic upgrade to your guest experience, reputation, and long-term profitability.

Hospitality Trends 2025–2026: Where Experience, Storytelling, and Sensory Design Converge

- ALLIANCE ONLINE -

As 2025 draws to a close, the hospitality industry is turning its gaze toward 2026 with renewed creativity, purpose, and emotional resonance. Alliance has identified three leading trends that go beyond surface-level aesthetics. These movements focus on deeper values, connection, transparency, and immersive experience. From the evolving art of the open kitchen to the serene-meetssocial pairing of Wabi farmhouse and Korean BBQ, and finally to the joyful exuberance of maximalist interiors, each trend shares a common theme: hospitality as theatre, where every detail contributes to a memorable performance.

Open Kitchens, Open Minds

Once considered a novelty, the open kitchen has become a defining feature of modern dining. By allowing guests to see, hear, and interact with chefs at work, it fosters a powerful sense of authenticity

and engagement. In 2026, open kitchens are evolving into strategic storytelling tools, helping venues communicate the journey of their menus. From ingredient sourcing to final plating, it allows them to showcase the craftsmanship behind each dish.

Supporting details matter more than ever. Cookware that blends form and function ensures everything visible on the line contributes to the brand’s aesthetic. Aluminium continues to gain traction for its lightweight durability and sleek appearance. Bronze pans add a stylish contrast to commercial steel backdrops, while Folio’s speckled cookware and bakeware offer a subtle visual twist that elevates the ordinary.

Finishing touches, such as elegant sauce bottles and precision plating tools, enhance the performance. Chefs, now centre stage, must dress the part

with clean whites and tailored aprons to balance professionalism with comfort essential. The kitchen becomes a stage, and every movement, utensil, and ingredient play a role in the narrative.

Wabi Farmhouse Aesthetic & Korean BBQ: A Harmonious Fusion

Two seemingly contrasting trends are finding perfect harmony in the UK dining scene: the tranquil minimalism of the Wabi farmhouse aesthetic and the vibrant sociability of Korean BBQ. Together, they create a compelling balance of energy and calm, offering guests a rich sensory and emotional experience.

Rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the Wabi farmhouse look embraces imperfection, simplicity, and natural beauty. Korean BBQ, by contrast, is a celebration of togetherness, inviting guests to grill, share, and enjoy interactive dining at its most communal. The fusion of these styles results in a dining environment that is both grounded and exciting.

Natural materials anchor the space in earthy authenticity. Soft whites, stone greys, and sage tones establish serenity, while the lively rituals of Korean dining keep the atmosphere vibrant and connected. To fully realise this aesthetic, crockery must reflect the eastern heritage that underpins the trend. Churchill’s Kintsugi and Emerge ranges are ideal, offering elegance and cultural depth. Artis’ Nami Dune adds undulating textures that echo nature’s rhythms, while GenWare’s Olive Wood platters bring warmth and rustic charm to the table.

Maximalist & Whimsical Environments

On the opposite end of the design spectrum, maximalism is making a triumphant return. After years of pared-down minimalism, hospitality spaces are once again embracing colour, texture, and storytelling. Maximalist and whimsical

interiors offer joyful escapism through bold palettes, layered furnishings, and playful, nostalgic details.

Glassware becomes part of the spectacle, mismatched vintage pieces and patterned glasses catch the light and spark conversation. Crockery celebrates individuality with eclectic colours, floral prints, and layered place settings that invite guests to explore. Cutlery gets creative too, mixing finishes like gold, matte black, and iridescent styles for contrast and charm.

Behind the bar, theatrical accessories such as crystal mixing glasses, ornate shakers, sculptural ice buckets, and novelty stirrers transform every pour into performance art. Crockery ranges that accentuate this trend include William Edwards’ Makira selection, which combines eloquent chic with bold, fun colours. Artis’ Boho range turns each plate into a canvas, allowing chefs to present their creations as visual masterpieces.

A Hospitality Future Built on Feeling

As these trends demonstrate, the future of hospitality is not about adhering to a single style, it’s about embracing experience as the new luxury. Guests want to feel seen, inspired, and part of something special. Whether through the transparency of an open kitchen, the sensory fusion of Wabi and Korean BBQ, or the joyful chaos of maximalist design, the goal is to create spaces that resonate emotionally.

Alliance offers a wide range of products to help businesses bring these trends to life.

Comment from Alan Whiteley of Iconic Spa brand Champneys

Iconic spa brand Champneys is among the ‘pioneers’ in a movement adopting more sustainable practices by leading the charge in integrating environmentally-friendly solutions according to the company’s CEO.

The renowned wellness business has invested in reducing its environmental impact by installing state-of-the-art biomass heating system technology at Champneys Forest Mere.

The renewable energy solution at the retreat in Liphook in Hampshire is provided by AMP Clean Energy which has ‘significantly improved’ the efficiency of the retreat’s heating operations while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels.

The biomass system works by using wood pellets to generate energy compared to using traditional heating system which use natural gas or oil, therefore, making it a much cleaner alternative.

Alan Whiteley, CEO at Champneys, insists the move was part of the organisation’s commitment to sustainability across its spa resorts. He said: “Our main aim at Champneys is to create a space where our guests can truly relax and enjoy a wonderful to stay. We also want to lead the way when it comes to introducing sustainable practices which make a difference to the environment.

“We have invested in the biomass heating system at Champneys Forest Mere as it means we’re meeting the energy needs of the resort but also sticking to our goals on sustainability. In essence, Champneys is about offering our guests a fantastic and relaxing experience which is also good for our planet.”

The switch to introduce biomass heating at Champneys Forest Mere could save 641 tonnes of carbon savings per year and reduce their heating expenditure by 20 per cent according to AMP. The installation of biomass heating technology is example of how hospitality businesses such as Champneys are innovating to meet the demands of both eco-conscious guests while reaching their sustainability goals.

The move also highlights how smart building practices - such as using renewable energy sources - can directly reduce operating costs and benefit the environment. For Champneys, however, Mr Whiteley says the integration of the biomass heating at Forest Mere goes hand in hand with the brand’s wellness principles.

“We’re always striving to find that sweet spot between luxury and sustainability and we believe we’ve achieved that at Champneys Forest Mere,” said Mr. Whiteley. “As the hospitality industry evolves, it’s clear that sustainable design and technology will continue play a bigger and bigger role in shaping its future.”

Instant Pattern, Effortless Impact New Designers’ Choice Floors From Amtico

- AMTICO -

British luxury vinyl tile flooring manufacturer Amtico has added nine new floor designs to Designers’ Choice, its ready-to-specify LVT collection specially created by its in-house design team. The new combinations of precision-cut laying patterns and LVT products translate three macro trends – Restorative Spaces, Soft Utilitarian and Nostalgic Reset – into design-led, high-performance floors for commercial projects including hotels, bars and restaurants.

Designers’ Choice is curated by Amtico’s designers, they have combined precision-cut laying patterns with Woods, Stones, Colours and Abstracts from the Signature collection, carefully chosen and influenced by the team’s research into colour, material mix and spatial trends. As Design Manager Sarah Escott

explains, the collection “distils months of research into palettes and combinations that are balanced, beautiful and instantly usable,” with this year’s additions also blending Woods, Stones and Burnished Metals for impactful floors in an easy, off-the-rack solution.

Trends translated for hospitality

Nostalgic Reset channels retro styling with confident geometry and classic material cues, from sculptural semi-circles and oversized checks to black-and-white marble. Restorative Spaces delivers a pared-back calm through quiet stone and oak combinations that support guest wellbeing. Soft Utilitarian introduces tougher, mixed-material statements – including Burnished Metal – that are ideal for zoning social spaces and multifunctional hospitality areas.

Meet the new designs

Nostalgic Reset

• DC633 Lune Small – Packwood Stone with red wine-hued Stucco Roselle; a sculptural semicircle design that is playful yet sophisticated.

• DC630 Check – oversized Tay Oak squares; pair with a gold stripping border for added elegance.

• DC629 Chantilly Weave – bold two-tone Bordeaux Oak and Buxton Oak re-energises a heritage weave, perfect for boutique lounges and bars.

• DC631 Check – classic black and white in statement Bianca Classic Marble and Nero Classic Marble.

• DC635 Small Parquet – a throwback to mixed wood-grain floors across five tones, from cool scandi-inspired Wharncliffe Oak to warm, golden Rotterdam Oak.

Simple to specify – with room to customise

Specifying Designers’ Choice is straightforward: choose the ‘DC’ code and the laying pattern is precision cut in Amtico’s Coventry factory using premium Signature LVT planks and tiles. For projects that need a unique twist, step up to Endless Possibilities – ‘EP’ codes – and keep any DC laying pattern while swapping in products of your choice from Signature. Designs can be previewed instantly using Amtico’s online Room Visualiser, starting with the product or the pattern, with the option to upload a photo or sketch to see the scheme in context.

Built for commercial performance

Amtico Signature LVT features a durable 1mm wear layer, a 20-year commercial warranty and antimicrobial protection against bacteria and viruses. Made-to-order in Coventry, Signature can also be specified as Amtico Safety flooring, which meets the verified EN13845 enhanced slip resistance standard, and it is available with Amtico’s bio-attributed PVC for a lower-carbon option.

Restorative Spaces

• DC637 Large Parquet – five Stones: Waterloo Concrete, Wilmcote Limestone, Ratley Stone, Ilmington Stone and Coombe Stone, for a pared-back, utilitarian feel.

• DC634 Small Parquet – three-Wood blend of Clowes Oak, Buckingham Oak and Wharncliffe Oak to bring biophilic comfort to workplaces and hospitality.

Soft Utilitarian

DC632 Gatsby Square Large – Russet Burnished Metal meets Darley Oak for dramatic contrast; works beautifully as a rug feature or for zoning, with hyper-realistic pearl pigments that create the illusion of weathered metal.

• DC636 Large Parquet – a five-Wood design layering rustic oaks for social, multi-functional spaces such as hospitality and build-to-rent.

From lobby to lounge, all-day dining to boutique bar, Designers’ Choice provides ready-made foundations for impactful hospitality interiors – with the flexibility to tailor when a brand concept demands it. Explore the full collection and the nine new designs at amtico.com/commercial.

In hotels, professional steamers have traditionally been used for housekeeping, banqueting and events, to provide a five-star freshening and anti-creasing touch to staff uniforms, curtains, tablecloths, and chair covers. (Steaming even kills bed bugs and their eggs almost immediately.)

Propress MINI can be used on a variety of clothing, from suits to dresses, and even delicate fabrics. It’s so versatile, it can be used vertically, for hanging fabric, or horizontally on bed linen and upholstery.

Guests often look to remove creases from clothes when unpacking or after a few days’ stay, especially those travelling for business or individuals attending events where wrinkle-free clothing is important.

Coupled with its ability to treat delicate materials, the Propress MINI is ready to go in just 45 seconds, making it a match made in heaven for wedding attendees. As the old saying goes: “Steam if you want to go faster!”

The Iron Age Is Over

Lema Completes Two Outstanding Contract Projects in London: Rosewood The Chancery and Fulham Pier Hotel

- LEMA CONTRACT -

In the vibrant British capital, Lema announces the recent completion of two new hospitality ventures: the all-suite hotel The Chancery Rosewood and the elegant Fulham Pier Hotel, an integral part of the new Fulham FC stadium development.

United by Lema’s sartorial approach and the shared ambition to redefine contemporary hospitality, both projects successfully combine the precision of Made in Italy design within an international context.

Fulham

Pier Hotel: a boutique hotel on the Thames

In the heart of Fulham Riverside, along the banks of the River Thames, the Fulham Pier Hotel rises, an intimate and sophisticated boutique hotel

that marks a new chapter for London’s hospitality scene.

Featuring thirteen individually designed rooms enriched with custom-made furnishings by Lema, the hotel embodies an ethos of personalised and understated luxury. Natural materials, refined colour palettes, and generous windows overlooking the river create warm, harmonious spaces, perfectly in tune with the dynamic energy of Fulham Riverside.

Each space includes complete bedroom and bathroom furnishings, with bespoke doors, panelling, and wardrobes integrated into the hotel’s elegant interiors entirely supplied by Lema. The refined reception counter was also custom-

designed and produced by the Lema Contract Team.

Beyond its rooms, the Fulham Pier Hotel offers a tranquil riverside haven: beautifully designed spaces, cultural and wellness experiences, fine dining, and relaxing moments along the newly developed river promenade. More than just a boutique hotel, it is a new gem on the Thames, where Lema brings the essence of Italian design to life.

The Chancery Rosewood: the modernist icon of Grosvenor Square reborn

From embassy to all-suite luxury hotel, the former US embassy in the heart of Mayfair has reborn as The Chancery Rosewood, with architecture by David Chipperfield and interiors by Joseph Dirand.

For the hotel’s 139 suites, Lema supplied and installed bespoke wardrobes, perfectly aligned with the refined identity of the interiors. Lema was also entrusted with the boiserie and wood panelling across the main three floors, crafted with special wood textures and finishes.

This project marks a major milestone for Lema. The Chancery Rosewood is the brand’s third prestigious commission in Grosvenor Square, following previous collaborations on 30 Grosvenor Square and 1–3 Grosvenor Square, further reinforcing Lema’s deep connection with one of London’s most prestigious addresses.

In addition to its suites, the hotel features eight restaurants and bars, including the first European outpost of Carbone, as well as a spectacular rooftop terrace overlooking the building’s iconic golden eagle. More than a remarkable transformation of

an architectural landmark, the project stands as a testament to Lema’s philosophy: custom-made Made in Italy design, crafted to make even the most extraordinary places feel like home.

Lema Contract: an integrated and international approach

Both projects showcase the strength of the Lema Contract model, which combines the expertise of the Italian headquarters, from production to feasibility studies, with the direct involvement of the UK team, dedicated to design development, on-site installation, and after-sales service.

This synergy ensures quality, functionality, and uniqueness, the core values of Lema’s philosophy: creating sartorial solutions that transform exceptional spaces into places to live and experience, always with the unmistakable touch of authentic Made in Italy. www.lemamobili.com

Why Front-of-House Teams Are Ditching Spray Bottles for Ready-to-Use Wipes

- PDI -

In today’s hospitality landscape, first impressions count. Guests expect visible cleanliness, quick turnarounds, and seamless service. For front-ofhouse teams, traditional spray-and-cloth methods just can’t keep up. That’s why many are switching to ready-to-use sanitising wipes, and not looking back.

Reusable cloths, even when laundered regularly, can harbour bacteria and spread germs. During busy service, it’s easy to lose track of what’s been sanitised. Ready-to-use wipes remove that uncertainty. Each one is fresh, pre-dosed with the right amount of solution, and disposed of after use, minimising crosscontamination and boosting hygiene confidence.

They also save time. Whether you’re resetting tables, wiping menus, or cleaning card machines, wipes are faster and more convenient. No need to juggle bottles and cloths, just grab, wipe, and go. It’s efficient, consistent, and ideal for high-pressure environments.

Introducing Sani Professional – The No.1 Foodservice Wipe Brand

And when it comes to sustainability, there’s no need to compromise. Innovations like Protect 360°

biodegradable sanitising wipes are 100% plastic-free, plant-based, and packaged in recyclable materials, helping venues stay green while staying clean.

“These wipes are thicker, more effective, and even gentle on my skin. No smears, no irritation, and perfect for quick cleans during events when time’s tight,” says Debbi Scobell, Hospitality & Events Coordinator at Forest Green Rovers, the greenest football club in the world.

In a sector where hygiene and perception go hand in hand, ready-to-use wipes help teams deliver visible, effective cleaning, quickly and responsibly.

The Art of Luxury

- SHEPHERD& -

Shepherd& creates interior design for The Shepherd Mayfair, Hotel – a new Mayfair landmark redefining luxury hospitality

Due to open in late 2025, The Shepherd Mayfair, Hotel is a bold new presence in the heart of Mayfair, an 82-key hotel that reinterprets British luxury through a modern lens. From Timothy Shepherd’s previous role as Managing Director at Buckley Gray Yeoman ID, Shepherd& has continued their client relationship with Bain Capital and Orka Investments for The Shepherd Mayfair, Hotel. The design team at Shepherd& was responsible for creating a narrative through intelligent design and the collective work of the design teams at all the practices involved through the architecture, interior design, the visual arts and into the brand creation, working closely with the Hotel Operators on every element to create a personal experience for the guests visiting the hotel and its bars, cafe and restaurant.

Bordering Park Lane and the iconic Shepherd Market, this new hotel pays homage to Mayfair’s layered and cultural history whilst also evolving it for the modern guest, forming a personality entirely of its own. This 18th Century marketplace is considered by many to be a ‘hidden gem’, with the hotel’s original building dating back to the 1970s.

With over thirty years of global design leadership and connections, Timothy Shepherd, Founder and Managing Director of Shepherd&, took the lead on the project alongside architecture & interior design practice Buckley Gray Yeoman, shaping every element of the guest experience with high attention to detail. Supporting Timothy were previous BGY employees and fellow Shepherd&

founders, Marko Gligorov, Sara Rosellini & Freda Shepherd, working with the client team to ensure the continuity of vision and delivery.

“We created and continually developed the narrative of The Shepherd Mayfair, with attention paid to a carefully combined architectural and design approach. We have taken this thought process into specific areas, from the guest experience, culinary offering, to the cocktail bar.” states Timothy Shepherd.

From the moment guests enter the covered walkway that leads from Stanhope Row, they are introduced to a true interpretation of hospitality. Shepherd& has used exceptional storytelling through design to create an elegant aesthetic that is rooted in British design tradition and reflective of the building’s history.

Every element of the interior design, including the curated materials and textures, has been carefully considered and selected. Colour palettes shift from deep, warm tones in shared spaces to refined cooler shades in the guest rooms. Custom details, such as a reimagined banker’s lamp, chess tables and silver trays all add layers of personality and opulence.

Beyond the rooms and suites, The Shepherd Mayfair, Hotel is also home to ‘Teddy’s’, an intimate cocktail bar tucked beneath the hotel. Designed to draw in the late-night crowd, it offers elegant

sophistication and features Liberty archive fabrics paired with hand-picked photography from George McLeod portfolio. ‘Fayre’, the ground floor brasserie, introduces a new culinary space to the neighbourhood with a focus on seasonally inspired dishes, and carefully curated wallcoverings from Adam Ellis Studio, while the lobby café/bar softens the guest arrival experience with loungelike comfort, encouraging pause but also work and, much needed these days, conversation. Once again, the artwork selection plays a key role—bringing the space to life with a curated mix of images, including pieces from Jack English’s archive, bespoke illustrations by John Broadley, and ad-hoc photography created specifically for the Hotel.

Part of the larger development is 36-37 Hertford Street residential apartments that add an extra slice of splendour, privacy, and intrigue to the project. Neighbouring The Shepherd Mayfair hotel, the apartments are within two restored Georgian townhouses designed by 17th-century visionaries Robert Adam and Henry Holland. Buckley Gray Yeoman acted as the base build architect, while the interior design was led by Timothy, the team at Shepherd&, building on the initial concepts by Albion Nord. Comprising one, two and three bedroom apartments, each one embodies a sense of considered luxury and opulence. Residents will also benefit from privileged access to bespoke services provided by The Shepherd Mayfair, ensuring a lifestyle of effortless luxury.

More than a design studio, Shepherd& works as an atelier - drawing upon a trusted network of artisans, makers, photographers, and longstanding collaborators to bring each project to life. A key

partner within this project is Apparatus, whose sculptural lighting and material sensibility added a layer of considered drama and refinement. Another key creative partner, as hinted above, is photographer Jack English, celebrated for his work across film, music, and fashion. His photography collection, selected by Timothy for The Shepherd, is a true reflection of their longstanding creative relationships and George McLeod, fine art photographer of the year, who’s series of recreated classical portraiture brings a modern interpretation to the guest rooms and arrival.

Shepherd& is delivering a hotel that blends design with cultural insight within hospitality, that is both personal and elevated - a hallmark of their design philosophy.

Artful Meaning

- HABITUS DESIGN GROUP -

Samantha Drummond, founder of Habitus Design Group, occupies a unique position in hospitality development. Over the past 30 years, she has delivered interior design and advisory services on projects exceeding US$35 billion. From integrated resorts like Marina Bay Sands in Singapore to restaurants, luxury retail and private residences across Asia and Europe, her work blends scale, storytelling and a reverence for place. Along the way, she has collaborated with world-renowned artists to create deeply resonant interiors. She has also sought out little known local artists to complete her design purpose.

Q: What role does art play in shaping the guest experience?

SD: Thoughtfully chosen art has the power to evoke emotion, shift perception and add layers of meaning. It invites guests to pause, look closer, and engage, not just with the space, but with the culture around them. Art also has an important part to play in wayfinding, especially in large resorts, and in encouraging guests to journey into spaces where they might otherwise not venture.

Q: Do you see art as a finishing touch or a foundational element?

SD: It’s absolutely foundational. My instinct is to create destinations that will be a benchmark in their location, so the design must be original. In my most recent project, Solaire Resort North, the client’s strategy was nothing less than to create a luxury destination that would elevate the local economy and re-energise the potential for local and international tourism in Quezon City, the largest city in Metropolitan Manila. That kind of ambition calls for originality, and art was central.

At Solaire North, we integrated nearly 3,000 original works by Filipino artists, each carefully chosen or commissioned. For me, art is never merely a backdrop; it is part of the architecture of the experience. Too often, art in hospitality is an afterthought: generic abstracts with no story or local resonance. I’m determined to avoid that.

Q: How do you collaborate with artists or consultants when curating art for a project?

SD: Collaboration is at the core of what I do. Take for example, Mangrove, a 30-metre-tall glass

Supper Club Solaire North

installation which undulates upwards through the central atrium of Solaire North. My vision was for a semi-transparent, flowing form that would transform under lighting at night. After an international search I found US glass sculptor, Nikolas Weinstein, and we worked together to turn my concept into something extraordinary: the ‘Wow’ moment, the embodiment of the spirit of innovation and artistry that defines Solaire North and an expression of the overall design narrative as an urban oasis. Significantly, the sculpture also encourages guests to look up and then explore the levels that they glimpse from below.

The broader collection of works at Solaire was curated with art consultancy Tarzeer Pictures. Together, we identified where and what art would complement interior scale, wall finishes and the individual ambience of each space from the informal to the sophisticated and, even, the fantastical. The result is a richly layered collection that includes paintings, printmaking, photography and textiles, all exploring the Philippines’, past, present and future.

Q: How important is sourcing local or culturally specific art in your projects?

SD: It’s essential. Guests today want more than visual appeal; they want meaning and a sense of place. Local art brings authenticity. It roots the

space in its geography and culture; it tells you where you are without needing to spell it out.

At Solaire North, we celebrated Filipino identity at every level. Mangrove that spoke of the importance of the mangrove forests near Manila which are now at risk, ‘Alon’ (meaning wave in Filipino) which is an 11-meter metallic installation by Filipino artist, Bea Valdes, that captures the essence and rhythm of the nearby ocean and hundreds of pieces from basket weavers to textile makers, painters and potters, often emerging talent that had never had such a platform to showcase their work.

For Samantha Drummond, art is not an accessory: it’s a design principle.

From grand installations to finely crafted local pieces, her work shows how thoughtful integration of art can transform interiors into cultural touchstones and experiential destinations.

Roehampton Club Reimagined: A Stylish Reinvention by DLSM Studio

- ROEHAMPTON CLUB -

DLSM Studio is proud to unveil the completion of its latest project: the reimagining of key social and event spaces at the prestigious Roehampton Club in southwest London. Due to complete in August 2025, this £2 million redevelopment sees the transformation of the Members’ Bar, creating a new bistro, four function rooms, garden terrace and adjoining areas, bringing new energy and elegance to one of the UK’s most respected private sports and social clubs.

Originally founded in 1901, Roehampton Club has long been celebrated for its heritage and exceptional offering, with facilities including an 18-hole golf course, tennis, croquet, swimming and state-of-the-art fitness amenities. With over 5,000 Members and a legacy as a sanctuary for leisure and wellbeing, the Club approached DLSM Studio to revitalise a suite of communal spaces to reflect the evolving needs and expectations of its diverse membership.

The Club benefits from 40 hectares of beautiful natural land, influencing DLSM Studio’s design narrative, ‘Moments of Calm, for a Lifetime of

Energy’, taking inspiration from the Club’s verdant setting and historic role as a retreat from city life. The interiors now offer a sophisticated blend of tactile materials, curved forms and biophilic cues allowing the space to transition seamlessly from day to evening use.

The Members’ Bar and Lounge

The Members’ Bar has been reimagined as a warm and uplifting space with Cipollino Verde marble countertops, handmade Spanish ceramic tiles, a ribbed walnut bar front and layered lighting details in antique brass and glass. Comfortable lounge zones surround the main bar, framed by soft seating, upholstered in earthy tones and complimented with elegant timber joinery, creating a relaxed yet refined environment for socialising, working or unwinding.

The Polo Room

The design team have planned for a flexible space that can be used during the day for more intimate functions, member workspace in the day and on selected nights transition to host the popular ‘bistro evenings’. Providing a restaurant setting that creates an elevated and warm ambience with a distinct nod to the Club’s prestigious polo lawns of the past.

The Garden Room Bar

In addition to the main bar, a new Garden Room Bar offers an extension to the Club’s dining and events programme. This space echoes the design language of the main bar but introduces distinct detailing through timber beading and wallpapered ceiling recesses, providing a more intimate setting.

The Function Rooms

The four function rooms have also been completely reconfigured to allow maximum operational flexibility and acoustic performance. Each space is defined by bespoke carpeting inspired by the surrounding landscape, green-painted ceilings to reflect the golf course and verdant views, accentuated by recessed lighting to provide a soft glow in the evenings. Acoustic folding partitions

enable the rooms to be opened up or divided, supporting everything from bridge club matches to large-scale private hire.

The Terrace

The south-facing terrace, now reimagined with warm timber decking, striped awnings and modular planting, brings the countryside into the heart of London. With 79 outdoor covers and the ability to subdivide for private use, the terrace enhances the Club’s year-round hospitality offer while maintaining sensitivity to the local environment through recessed lighting ensuring minimal light spillage.

More than just an outdoor area, the terrace will serve as a vibrant social hub, offering members a setting for everything from casual lunches to elegant private events. This flexible, resort-style space reflects the Club’s commitment to creating exceptional year-round experiences that foster connection, relaxation and enjoyment.

DLSM Studio’s redesign at Roehampton Club marks another milestone in its portfolio of refined, narrative-led spaces. The studio, which works globally across hospitality, lifestyle, leisure and retail environments, continues to bring its signature approach to human-centred, strategic design to some of the UK’s most iconic destinations. At Roehampton Club, the result is a series of spaces that elevate every aspect of the member experience, reinforcing the Club’s reputation as a benchmark for excellence in both sport and hospitality.

A New Creative Landmark: ibis Styles Old Tbilisi Opens With Bold Design by STUDIOSHOO

A vibrant new ibis Styles hotel has opened in the heart of Tbilisi, bringing a fresh burst of colour and creativity to the city’s hospitality scene. Designed by architecture and interiors studio STUDIO SHOO, the hotel blends the playful spirit of the ibis Styles brand with the rich cultural identity of Tbilisi.

The design draws inspiration from stained glass – a visual motif deeply rooted in the city’s architectural heritage, often seen in traditional staircases and carved wooden balconies. “Stained glass is part of Tbilisi’s visual language,” explains Shushana Khachatrian, founder of STUDIO SHOO.

“It’s decorative, expressive and full of individuality – just like the city itself.”

Housed in a beautifully restored building in Old Tbilisi, the hotel retains original features including a castiron spiral staircase, turquoise wooden balconies, and traditional stained-glass windows. Inside, the public areas feature light-toned walls and sculptural forms, punctuated by playful details: a bright yellow lounge seat, plant-filled vases inspired by Georgian design, and a two-level reception desk designed for accessibility.

In the guest rooms, a bespoke carpet inspired by traditional Georgian mosaics sets the tone, complemented by wave-shaped headboards, spherical lamps, and graffiti-style pouffes. A standout feature is the stained-glass window between the bedroom and bathroom – allowing sunlight to cast a vibrant play of colours throughout the space.

Most of the furniture was crafted by Georgian artisans, reinforcing the hotel’s commitment to local craftsmanship. “Our goal was to create a

space that feels both welcoming and distinctly Georgian – a dialogue between guests and the city,” says Khachatrian.

More than just a place to stay, ibis Styles Old Tbilisi offers an immersive way to experience the city’s character – colourful, creative, and full of soul.

Illuminating Montcalm Mayfair

- DERNIER & HAMLYN -

In the heart of Mayfair, the newly reimagined Montcalm Mayfair stands as a celebration of refined British luxury. Tasked with creating bespoke lighting for the hotel’s public spaces, Dernier & Hamlyn brought over a century of craftsmanship to one of London’s most anticipated hospitality openings.

Working in close collaboration with Louise East of Studio Est, the team designed and manufactured a suite of entirely new, one-off pieces for the hotel’s lobby, bar, restaurant and meeting rooms. Each fixture was meticulously engineered to reflect the design narrative – a balance of contemporary elegance and timeless sophistication – while meeting the demanding technical and aesthetic standards of a five-star property.

A defining feature of the project is the restaurant’s striking centrepiece installation. Spanning the ceiling with a sweeping, sculptural form, the piece is composed of hundreds of individually crafted elements, assembled with precision to achieve both visual drama and perfect illumination. The result is a focal point that enhances the space by day and transforms it after dark.

Every piece presented its own challenge. From complex metalwork and custom finishes to specialist glass components, the manufacturing process

combined traditional hand skills with modern production techniques to deliver fixtures that are as robust as they are beautiful.

For Dernier & Hamlyn – established in 1888 and still designing and making in Britain – the Montcalm Mayfair was an opportunity to once again demonstrate how bespoke lighting can shape atmosphere, elevate interiors and express a brand’s identity. The result is a series of unique installations that not only illuminate, but also define, the hotel’s character – ensuring that Montcalm Mayfair’s guests experience a sense of place that is as memorable as it is luxurious.

Capella Taipei Unveils The Glasshouse: A Standalone Tri-level Bar Destination

- CAPELLA TAIPEI -

Along the verdant boulevards of Dunhua North Road, Taipei, The Glasshouse emerges as a sophisticated constellation of three unique bars under one roof, where mixology meets culture with exceptional artistry. Three distinct yet harmoniously connected venues - Tilt, Cooper, and Playback - weave a tapestry of cultural discovery through the language of spirits and music.

The Glasshouse represents an intentional departure from conventional hospitality designa standalone concept positioned within 500 feet of the Capella Taipei hotel that bridges the gap between luxury accommodation and authentic local culture. This groundbreaking approach attracts both international travellers seeking local experiences and residents keen to discover new dimensions of their city’s evolving social landscape.

Connecting tradition and innovation in an unforgettable journey of taste and discovery, Tilt’s curated cocktails transform Taiwan’s local ingredients into liquid love letters to the island’s diverse terroir; Cooper elevates the art of aged spirits and time-tested classics; while Playback offers a multi-sensory experience which blends artisanal Japanese cocktails and dynamic music programming.

“The Glasshouse represents our bold vision to redefine the hospitality landscape of Taiwan,” says Dennis Laubenstein, General Manager, Capella Taipei. “Our ambition was to craft something unprecedented in Asia - a cultural bridge that positions Taiwan at the forefront of the region’s social culture. The Glasshouse elevates Taiwan’s extraordinary bartending artistry while celebrating the rich narratives that are woven throughout our island’s identity.”

Tilt: A celebration of Taiwan’s living landscape

Within Tilt’s 75-seat Art Deco-inspired domain on the street level of The Glasshouse, Taiwan’s remarkable geography finds eloquent expression through both thoughtful design and the island’s most treasured ingredients.

Rich dark walnut, brushed brass accents, and emerald-toned upholstery create an atmosphere of refined warmth that mirrors the island’s natural beauty, while checkered marble floors and softly backlit shelving inspired by old-world apothecaries provide the perfect backdrop for liquid storytelling.

Here, kaoliang - Taiwan’s traditional sorghum spirit - serves as muse, while each handpicked ingredient tells its own story of place. Aromatic roselle from Hualien’s central mountains offers a floral, botanical snapshot of the landscape. The crisp, sun-kissed guava from Kaohsiung brings a sweet, refreshing flavour beloved by locals across Taiwan. Ponkan tangerines from Yunlin burst with vibrant citrus, bright kumquats from Yilan add a lively northern note, and rich cocoa beans from Pingtung’s southern highlands evoke warmth and depth.

At the commanding green stone bar trimmed in brass, a tribute to 1920s cocktail culture’s celebration of luxury and craftsmanship, skilled bartenders transform regional treasures into liquid narratives, each sip revealing new layers of terroir and tradition. Imaginatively-conceived mocktails ensure that every guest can partake in this celebration of place regardless of preference.

Cooper: Celebrating the craftsmen behind every cask

Ascend to the refined refuge of Cooper on second level, where connoisseurs discover a sanctuary dedicated to the profound artistry of aged spirits and masterfully interpreted classics in the style of a European salon. Named in tribute to the craftsmen whose skilled hands shape the world’s finest casks, this intimate venue honours both heritage and innovation with effortless sophistication.

Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the city beyond while polished brass accents and sumptuous deep blue velvet seating create a serene backdrop for quiet contemplation and conversation.

Here, beloved classics receive extraordinary treatment: an Old Fashioned elevated with rare expressions such as High West from Utah’s mountain distillery or the legendary Pappy Van Winkle 15-year, or a perfect Dry Martini finding new expression through six-decade-aged gin. Cooper’s rare collection of aged spirits and exceptional Champagnes creates moments of discovery for those who understand that true luxury lies in the confluence of craft, time, and appreciation.

Playback: A symphony of sound and flavour

In Playback’s intimate 50-seat basement retreat, independent sound meets Japanese flavours in a multi-sensory celebration where music and mixology converge. Inspired by modernist masters such as Jean Prouvé and Pierre Chareau, Playback channels sleek lines, opulent details, and functional beauty with a nostalgic nod to the past. Whether sipping a cocktail at the bar or sinking

into a plush seat near the stage, the venue pulses with live music performances that span genres and eras, from intimate acoustic sets to bold experimental sounds.

Signature creations pay homage to cultural touchstones with remarkable creativity. “Tokyo Drift by Teriyaki Boyz” captures the electric energy of neon-lit Tokyo streets, a cocktail that accelerates like a midnight racer, balancing bold matcha intensity with unexpected creamy textures while “Sake, Tears, Man & Woman by Kawashima Eigo” transforms emotion into liquid form, marrying premium sake with Japanese gin in perfect harmony.

More than cocktails and music, Playback offers a sonic journey where every track, pour, and live performance has been curated to subvert the norm and reward the curious, creating entirely new experiences that bridge musical heritage with contemporary expression.

Tom Browns Restaurant, Nottinghamshire – A Luxury Redesign

- CONTRACT FURNITURE -

Contract Furniture Group was proud to play a key role in the dramatic transformation of Tom Browns, a long-established riverside restaurant in Gunthorpe, Nottinghamshire. Since opening in 1986, it has been a fixture of the local dining scene. In 2022, the venue was acquired by the Reddington Pub Company, known for its strong portfolio of hospitality venues, including the neighbouring Anchor pub. Unlike the family-friendly Anchor, the vision for Tom Browns was to create an adult-only, high-end restaurant serving premium seafood and steak alongside live music.

Following a £1 million investment, we were invited back, having worked with Reddington before, to help realise its luxury concept. Our task was to design, manufacture, and install bespoke fixed seating that would define the space. With a central live music stage, the booth layout was carefully planned to give every guest a clear view while maintaining an intimate, lounge-like feel.

We began with precise site measurements and produced 2D and 3D renderings to visualise the banquette seating. The design embraced a moody, luxe 1970s style, with booths upholstered in rich chocolate brown velvet, framed by baroque oak panelling and finished with a gold kickboard for a touch of glamour. Integrated back-panel lighting enhanced the atmosphere in the low-lit space, perfect for evening dining and entertainment.

The fixed seating, in a mix of corner booths, curved runs, and straight styles, dominated the layout, optimising space and creating defined zones. Only a few standalone tables and chairs were added for flexibility.

To complete the look, we supplied black quartz tabletops paired with table bases from our Titan, Atlas, and Zeus collections, all featuring interchangeable sleeves for customised detailing. Custom glass mirrors behind two elevated curved booths added depth and echoed the retro-glam aesthetic.

The result is a complete reinvention of the former pub into a sophisticated, child-free restaurant that feels both luxurious and welcoming. The combination of bespoke seating, premium finishes, and clever spatial planning has boosted both style and functionality.

Now reopened, Tom Browns has quickly reclaimed its place as a local favourite, proof of how tailored furniture solutions can redefine a venue and elevate the guest experience.

Cult x Batch LDN: Where Design  Meets Modern Retail

- CULT FURNITURE -

Cult Furniture has transformed contemporary menswear brand Batch LDN, to reimagine what a retail space can be blending boutique hospitality with bold, functional design. The result? A confident, lifestyle-driven store experience that looks as sharp as the suits on display.

Retail today is about more than products; it’s about creating immersive environments that reflect a brand’s identity and connect with customers on a deeper level. This ethos is at the heart of the collaboration between Cult Furniture and contemporary menswear label Batch LDN, known for redefining the modern suit.

Tasked with furnishing Batch LDN’s central London space, Cult set out to create an interior that feels as confident and considered as the garments themselves. The result is a design-led, hospitalityinspired environment that invites guests to stay, connect, and engage, not just shop.

Key pieces were selected to enhance both form and function:

Lounge Seating: Soft, sculptural chairs and pouffes invite visitors to relax, encouraging dwell time and supporting a more immersive shopping experience.

Bar Seating: Sleek stools bring structure to Batch LDN’s in-store coffee and bar area, adding a social, laid-back edge to the retail space.

Workspaces: Communal tables encourage creativity and connection, bridging the gap between lifestyle and retail.

As more brands prioritise curated, experience-first spaces, the Cult x Batch LDN partnership offers a blueprint for the future of retail. This is design with intent — where every material, silhouette, and layout choice helps elevate the customer journey.

This collaboration reflects a shared belief in modern, purposeful design. It shows how thoughtful interiors don’t just complement a brand, they amplify it, transforming everyday retail into something far more meaningful.

Shaped by steam, proven by time: Chairs № 14 and № 811

At Ton, tradition is not merely a concept, but a living practice. Chairs № 14 and № 811 are more than just furniture. Created more than a century ago, they are emblems of enduring craftsmanship, continuity and design clarity, and are still produced today with the same respect for material, form and tradition. These two iconic pieces of bentwood furniture have come to define the look of cafés, restaurants, hotels and homes around the world.

Introduced in 1859, Chair № 14 is often referred to as “the chair of chairs”. Its pioneering use of steam-bent wood redefined furniture production, making construction efficient and the form elegantly minimal. Just six pieces of bentwood, ten screws and two bolts create a structure that is strong and functional yet visually light and beautifully proportioned. It’s quiet confidence and universal appeal have made it a global standard, particularly in café culture, where it remains an iconic presence to this day.

The story of Chair № 811 began in 1930 when the architect and designer Josef Hoffmann conceived the idea of combining the precision of bentwood with the softness of cane. The result is a striking

yet subtle chair, with a handwoven seat and backrest that add lightness and tactility, and a frame with refined lines. Hoffmann’s design has proved to be timeless, being equally suited to heritage settings and contemporary interiors.

These models are special not just for their form, but also for the way they are made. Both chairs are still crafted in a factory in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, where wood has been shaped by hand using steam since 1861. In this historic Czech town, generations of artisans have passed down their skills not through instruction manuals but through gestures, rhythm and the deep intuition that comes only with experience.

Bending solid wood into precise, durable curves takes patience and respect for the material. It’s a method that cannot be rushed — and the finished chair shows it. Every arc, every joint and every silhouette tells the story of time, care and mastery.

Yet these icons are far from relics of the past. Today, Chairs № 14 and № 811 are available in a carefully curated range of finishes inspired by Ton’s surroundings, including a deep blue reminiscent of workers’ uniforms, a warm brick red reminiscent of the historic factory buildings and

vibrant greens and yellows drawn from the surrounding nature. These grounded colours bring a subtle modernity to the classic silhouettes of the chairs, enabling them to express a new visual language while honouring their origins.

Their spirit also lives on in modern reinterpretations. Chair № 314, designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune, offers a softer take on No. 14, with a more sculptural design featuring rounded geometry and refined minimalism. Meanwhile, Chair № 822, the contemporary counterpart to № 811, updates Hoffmann’s legacy for the 21st century with improved ergonomics and a wider range of materials.

Some pieces are timeless because they never change. Others are timeless because they adapt. These two chairs are both. Still made. Still relevant. Still inspiring.

HIX 2025 // Europe’s Leading Hotel Design Show Returns

- HIX -

HIX returns to London’s Business Design Centre on 26 & 27 November for two days of talks, installations, parties, and an exhibition of over 150 leading design brands.

Guided by the theme ‘culture clash’, this year’s edition of Europe’s leading hotel design event will bring the hospitality interiors community together for a celebration of the people, projects, products and perspectives shaping the next chapter of hotel interior experiences.

Featuring Expo, Social, Installation and Talks strands, this year’s programme explores the unique power of hotel design to bring people together and broaden horizons all around the world.

THEME // Hotels showcase the best a culture has to offer in one of the most important measures of success – how it looks after others. From the Japanese concept of omotenashi which composes hospitality around care rather than expectation, to the Atithidevo Bhava principles of India that

see guests considered as gods, each continent, country, society and tribe has its own take on what constitutes an exceptional stay. Exploring the intersection of design, heritage and philosophy, this year’s theme of Culture Clash is a platform for hotel design without borders, with the HIX 2025 programme celebrating the diverse range of customs, values, traditions and aesthetics that underpin local and global hospitality cultures alike.

EXPO // The HIX exhibitor community brings together the best European brands working at the cutting edge of hotel interior design. Showcasing a curated edit of over 150 major labels from across the furniture, bathroom, lighting, technology, fabric, surface and decor sectors, the HIX expo is a one-stop-shop for the best new collections and exclusive releases from Hansgrohe, Panaz, Chelsom, Laufen, Marset, Tuuci, Concept Contract and more. Special show-floor features this year include a pop-up concept guestroom exploring

the connection between past and future by Nutro in the Silent Gliss showroom, and a Furniture Fusion stand paying homage to Bob Dylan and the transformative process of creativity.

TALKS // Across two days of panels, presentations and perspectives, HIX Talks explores the future of hospitality design with the people shaping it. Answering the big hospitality design questions, this year’s programme looks to topics including the shifting definitions of luxury, innovations in hotel wellbeing, and the next wave of hospitality tech. Speakers include leading designers and operators from Ennismore, Accor, SH Hotels & Resorts, Conran & Partners, Yotel, OBMI, Maybourne, Space Copenhagen and more. Returning sessions like Studio Confidential will take a look behind the curtain of a leading hospitality designers G.A Group, while a keynote interview with 25Hours

founder Christoph Hoffmann is set explore how the brand shook up hotel culture with a bold new vision.

SOCIAL // HIX guests can experience the expert hospitality of the hotel design community as part of a dedicated social strand featuring parties, receptions, activations and pop-ups across the show floor. Join the fun at stand events hosted by the HIX exhibitor community and rub shoulders with industry leaders at our signature HIX Social Session (26 Nov, 5pm - 8pm) before making new connections at workshops and breakout content all designed to inspire collaboration.

INSTALLATION // Where previous installations have seen HIX host the world’s first mycelium bar, a reimagining of a London architectural icon, and two high-concept ‘rooms with a point of view’, this year’s theme of Culture Clash offers a different perspective (quite literally). Created in collaboration with MKV Design and Luma Mirrors, ‘Reflections’ takes inspiration from the island of Ibiza and the unique social and creative exchanges that characterise its distinct cultural landscape.

Complete with its own talks, bar and soundtrack, this year’s installation is a love letter to island living in the heart of bustling London.

HIX is free to attend, and welcomes designers, architects, operators, developers, investors, owners, project managers, suppliers, general managers and anyone else involved in bringing hotels to life.

Register for your free pass and join Europe’s hospitality design community at London’s Business Design Centre on 26 & 27 November for a true celebration of hotel design and experience.

Quintiesse Showcase at HIX

- ELSTEAD LIGHTING -

Elstead Lighting have been manufacturing and distributing decorative lighting since 1969. They have developed a diverse collection of North American designed product to broaden the UK portfolio, including great brands such as Hinkley, Quoizel and Kichler.

In more recent years the Elstead Lighting Group has developed the Quintiesse Collection, which is a carefully curated, premium brand that seeks to bring together unique and memorable designs from Eurofase, Alora, Arteriors and Currey & Company.

With a constant focus on quality, backed by large stock holding, Elstead supplies interior designers and decorative specifiers in more than fifty countries that require 220-240v fixtures.

Featured is the Benjiro chandelier designed by Ian Thornton for Currey & Company. This Cupertino finish is softened by an off-white shade and is inspired by mid-century modern shapes with a space-aged twist. A large-scale piece ideal for multi drops to create a dramatic lobby or stairwell installation.

For the luxury bathroom space, we feature Alonso wall lights designed by Alora. The brass backplate is paired with a beautiful Alabaster disc and opal glass diffuser to create a unique and timeless product. See this and many more products in the new Quintiesse collection that feature this beautiful natural material.

For a coastal vibe interior, we feature the Luca designed by Lisa McDennon for Hinkley. This bold duo-mount pendant showcases a robust, woven drum shade and is ideal for restaurants or used as a semi-flush in corridors. There is a five light cluster inside to provide plenty of functional light and is offered in a black and tan combination or just in a black finish.

Array Redefines the Sensorial Experience of London’s Claro Restaurant

The interior design project created by DLSM Studio for the new Claro restaurant, in London, aims to generate an atmosphere of comfort and wellbeing that matches its sophisticated gastronomic offering and its auspicious location. The Array pendants, suspended over the main dining space, set the scene with their sculptural presence, which elevates the overall sensual effect.

The exclusive St. James’s neighbourhood in central London sets the tone for the new Claro restaurant, located in the historic Waterloo Place building that was once a bank headquarters. Its elegant façade accommodates a stylish interior, divided into different areas, where DLSM Studio has successfully combined a sophisticated yet intimate design that lives up to the reputation of its architectural location.

The restaurant’s main dining area is particularly remarkable, a double-height space that preserves

original elements of the building, such as the unique ceiling mouldings and the impressive wrought iron balustrade. These elements, combined with the modern interior design finishes, create an elegant and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for savouring the Eastern Mediterranean cuisine prepared by renowned chef Ryan Schmueli.

Upon entry the gaze is drawn upwards towards the ceiling, from which three Array sculptural luminaires appear to float harmoniously. Their grand proportions engage with the architectural space, creating a calming atmosphere that subtly envelops diners.

The design gracefully addresses the spatial challenge posed by DLSM Studio within such as characteristic space thanks to the possibilities of bespoke craftsmanship, especially with regard to the height. The main concept was to interfere as little as possible with space or the dining experience despite its generous proportions. Array manages to bring everything together, providing visual dynamism and sensorial harmony.

The sculptural silhouette designed by Umut Yamac, combines downlight and up-light from its lofty position that envelops the space, simultaneously creating a vibrant and dynamic visual effect that draws in the diners below. Fine threads stretched between aluminium rings define the three suspended volumes, interacting with an ethereal light, reverberating with the architectural context, worthy of this historic London building.

The cylindrical shapes, matching the curves of the large arched windows, together with the soft colour tones, cleverly integrate with the style of the project, where natural materials such as wood, leather, and steel underline the industrial aesthetic of the space, contrasting with the traditional structural elements. The resulting assemblage quietly integrates into the setting; on the contrary, it sculpts a timeless interior that seems to have always been there.

A Warm Welcome From Dusk ‘Til Dawn – Pro Solar Lighting

- LUMENA LIGHTS -

Across the hospitality sector, there’s a growing awareness of the importance of lighting outdoor spaces. It’s about more than just visibility - it’s about atmosphere, safety, and sustainability. Whether it’s a cosy pub garden, a hotel courtyard, or a wedding venue set in the countryside, lighting plays a huge role in how guests feel after dark.

When the sun goes down, the right lighting creates warmth and reassurance. It turns dark corners into inviting spaces and helps people move around safely and confidently. During the winter months, when daylight is in short supply, it can also prevent accidents and make paths, car parks, and outdoor seating areas more accessible for everyone.

For venues aiming to reduce their carbon footprint, solar is the obvious investment - it’s low-maintenance, free to run, and a visible step towards greener operations - something today’s guests increasingly value. Motion sensors and dimming options also help protect local wildlife and keep light levels comfortable for guests.

Different types of lighting can create very different effects: sleek bollards guide guests along paths and around terraces, adding subtle illumination; floodlights provide brighter, wider coverage for larger areas, improving safety and highlighting architectural features; while small marker or spike lights can accentuate planting, signage, or steps, adding depth and character to outdoor spaces. All our solar lighting is designed to perform reliably in the UK’s varied weather conditions, with no need for mains power, trenching, or cabling.

Once installed, they operate automatically all year-round, even through the darkest months, combining practicality with a warm, welcoming ambience.

This autumn, we’re excited to launch our new Cosmic Range, designed especially for hospitality settings. It features solar-powered commercial grade festoon lights plus string / fairy lights. Various coloured, warm and even flame effect options are available. Perfect for terraces, rooftop bars, outdoor seating areas or borders / fences, they add instant ambience to elevate spaces from dusk.

With Lumena Lights, it’s about creating memorable effects from lighting that is built to last for years.

For more information on our Pro Solar range please email sales@lumenalights.com or visit our website at www.lumenalights.com

LiGHT 25 Expands With New Technical Zone, Associations Lounge and Immersive Light Art Installation

LiGHT 25, the UK’s only trade show dedicated exclusively to high-end lighting specification, will return to the Business Design Centre, Islington, London, on 19–20 November 2025.

Following the success of LiGHT 24, which welcomed over 5,500 visitors, this year’s edition will feature an expanded programme of innovation, education, and networking opportunities. Key highlights for 2025 include the introduction of the Technical Zone, the return of the Associations Lounge, and a new large-scale immersive light art installation.

Launched for the first time at LiGHT 25, the Technical Zone will provide a dedicated showcase for brands at the forefront of urban lighting, commercial lighting, control systems, components and OEM, lamps and gear, and emergency lighting. With advanced controls, emergency systems, and components playing an increasingly important role in sustainable and human-centric design, the Technical Zone offers both exhibitors and visitors

a vital platform to exchange expertise and explore the latest developments.

Supported by Studio Due, the Associations Lounge will once again act as a shared hub for leading industry bodies, including the LIA, ILP, SLL and the IALD. Located on the Gallery Level, the lounge will provide visitors and exhibitors with a comfortable environment away from the show floor, complete with complimentary refreshments, networking events, and a dedicated talks programme. It also offers the opportunity to learn more about association initiatives and membership.

Central to the educational element of the show programme is the CPD-accredited [d]arc thoughts talks series in collaboration with Lutron. Curated and moderated by editors of arc and [d] arc magazines alongside guest moderators, the two-day talks programme will bring together global experts to address themes ranging from sustainability and circularity to wellness, health,

and the business of design. Topics are set to include dark skies, inclusive design, multi-sensory environments, data transparency, colour, health and wellbeing. Whether you’re interested in sustainability, technical innovation or the human experience of light, the programme aims to inspire fresh thinking, professional development and meaningful dialogue.

LiGHT 25 will also feature a major new light art installation. Following Frankie Boyle’s acclaimed Intra-Spectrum in 2024, this year sees Speirs Major Light Architecture partner with formalighting to present Re:Vision. Exploring the theme of colour perception across species, Re:Vision uses custom spectral profiles and reimagined Ishihara colour blindness test patterns to reveal the diversity of

visual experience across the natural world. The installation invites visitors to step outside their own perceptual boundaries and reconsider how lighting design can respond to a richly biodiverse and interconnected planet.

LiGHT isn’t just a trade show made up of rows of exhibitors. It’s a chance for designers, engineers, and architects to really immerse themselves in light, learn more about how light shapes the design industry, and make new connections through our varied features.

In addition to these new features, LiGHT 25 will bring together thousands of architects, interior designers, lighting designers, engineers, and specifiers, alongside hundreds of leading architectural and decorative lighting brands. Visitors can also take advantage of networking opportunities throughout the event, including a

late-night drinks party, a networking brunch, and a dedicated co-working space.

LiGHT 25 is a must-visit event for anyone involved in lighting, architecture, interior design, engineering, and beyond. From late-night drinks on the show’s opening night to a networking lunch on day two, visitors will have valuable opportunities to network and connect with peers and industry leaders. With breakout workspaces for on-the-go creativity and productivity, LiGHT 25 offers both inspiration and practicality – the perfect mix for discovering new ideas, strengthening professional relationships, and staying at the forefront of the lighting industry.

Inclusive Hygiene

- TORK-

In the world of luxury hospitality, every detail matters. From the scent in the lobby to the feel of the linen, guests judge every aspect of a facilities’ operation. Yet one crucial element often defines a guest’s lasting impression: the washroom experience.

The new global Tork Insight Survey 2025, reveals that only one in five washrooms meets hygiene expectations in the UK. 24%* of people cited in the survey cite ‘un-hygienic’ as a reason for not using a washroom, with 50%* saying that they have not used a washroom at a venue even though they needed to.

For hotels and venues that pride themselves on perfection, the implications are clear: hygiene isn’t just about cleanliness, it’s about brand integrity and repeat customer. Half of all guests take action after a poor hygiene experience; whether by shortening their stay, avoiding food and drink, or leaving a negative review - all of which are harmful to business.

Tork, an Essity brand and global leader in professional hygiene, is calling for a new era of inclusive hygiene in washrooms considering the visible and invisible barriers faced by many due to a range of individual abilities, needs and circumstances. The survey found that 95%* of people with conditions affecting washroom use aren’t wheelchair users, meaning traditional concepts of “accessibility” often miss the mark. When it comes to hand washing, sensitivities such as arthritis, hygiene concerns and sensory

challenges all demand thoughtful product choice and design.

Further, in the UK, 17%* of those who report a skin condition believe it can be made worse by harsh soaps and poor hygiene. Hotels must be wary of the hygiene products they stock to accommodate the needs of their guests. Tork offers a range of soaps and lotions all of which undergo a strict product safety assessment and are dermatologically tested, and the Tork dispenser development process is the first in the world to be certified according to the Design for All standard (EN 17161).

For luxury hospitality brands, this insight underscores a simple truth: true sophistication means care for every guest, in every detail, including the washroom.

Pattern Revival with Tile of Spain

This year’s Cersaie was an elegant showcase of the newest tile designs from the Spanish tile industry – and patterned tiles were at the forefront. María D Arráez, Director of Tile of Spain UK, and Clara Vicedo, Marketing and Communications Executive at ASCER, share insight on how to style these eyecatching designs.

“For timeless elegance, classic mosaics will never go out of style. Spanish manufacturers produce both contemporary and heritage designs in a selection of colours, styles and sizes which can then be used to create looks which are classic and fresh.

Curved patterns have made a popular comeback in recent years – and tiles are no exception. Think soft arches and circular motifs to add a playful yet refined aesthetic to walls, hallways, bathrooms and kitchens.

Thinking outside the box, Spanish manufacturers have created a selection of designs that combine geometric designs with tactile finishes, especially via raised surfaces – adding a sensory dimension to homes that feels dynamic and luxurious.

For those who love the warmth of wood but want the durability of a porcelain or ceramic tile, woodeffect tiles in a detailed pattern add interest and texture to spaces. Spanish manufacturers combine quality techniques with innovative designs allowing plenty of choice.”

Where Elegance Meets Practicality: Transform Your Hospitality Spaces With Project Floors

When the award-winning, Glasgow-based interior design practice IBDP (Interiors by Dominic Paul) were asked to design the latest high-concept restaurant from the Hunky Dory Group, the result was Zhima, a masterful blend of contemporary luxury and traditional Chinese influences.

Every aspect of the design, from the bespoke artwork and statement lighting to the carefully curated furniture, showcases meticulous attention to detail, creating a cohesive and visually stunning dining experience.

This attention to detail extended, of course, to the choice of floor. The right floor can dramatically impact the feel and functionality of the space. In a restaurant environment, special attention must be paid to the durability and splash resistance of the floor, as well as practicalities with regard to ongoing maintenance.

Ted Todd’s expert team of specification consultants provided tailored wood flooring recommendations, leading IBDP to choose Bourne from Ted Todd’s Project collection. Bourne plays a strong supporting role in Zhima’s striking design, where grandeur, ambience and intimacy combine to create a dining experience that is not only Instagram-worthy, but one which is truly unforgettable, sophisticated and inviting.

Bourne’s deep tones, both dark and warm, accentuate the knots, colour variation and occasional sap that are the hallmarks of this nature grade European Oak floor, and the considerable plank width (190mm) creates a broad canvas upon which to display these alluring characteristics. 14mm thick with a 3mm wear layer, Bourne offers impressive durability. A hardened oil finish that combines a natural look with a subtle sheen, augments that durability while providing highly effective splash-resistance. FSC certification, the environmental gold standard of the timber industry, was the icing on the cake (or ‘the flowers on the brocade’, to use the equivalent Chinese expression).

Ted Todd now welcomes six brand new extra wide floors to their existing Project collection, available for the first time in 220mm wide planks with a 20mm thickness, and generous 6mm wear layer offering unbeatable construction, and greater choice for commercial projects without a significant increase in cost.

These robust engineered floors are now available across popular Project designs Almond, Brindle, Caramel, Calcio, Petworth and Tattenhall- all with the same hardened oil finish as Bourne for added longevity ensuring hospitality interior projects will stand the test of time after heavy footfall and inevitable splashes and spills.

Picasso Digital: The Future-Proof Hotel PMS That Puts You in Control of Bookings and Revenue

- TECHOTEL -

Following the successful roll out of the automated check-in “Mona AI” module, AK Techotel is looking to expand its market share even further with its recently redeveloped Picasso Digital Hotel Property Management System.

The next twelve to eighteen months should be the most exciting period for customers and employees of AK Techotel as more and more revolutionary modules are being developed and released, as Picasso Digital consolidates its position as the future of Hotel Property Management Systems.

Alistair Brown, National Sales Manager of AK Techotel in the UK says “With over 97% of hotel bookings now coming from online platforms, it is vital that the hotel is able to control bookings coming in, availability of rooms going out, whilst also limiting the amount of commission that is being paid”. With Picasso Marketing the hotel can direct traffic to its own website booking engine, paying zero percent commission and control exactly what rates are available, as the website booking is an integral component of the PMS. Alistair Brown continues “The release of the next generation booking engine is being rolled out as we speak, and with Picasso Digital being at the forefront of the development, I for one can’t wait”.

easyHotel Rolls Out Room Key in Apple Wallet

- EASYHOTEL -

The value-brand brings a fully digital check-in experience as guests can now seamlessly and securely unlock their room at easyHotel London City Shoreditch & easyHotel Paris Aubervilliers with a simple tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch

easyHotel guests can now add their room key to Apple Wallet on their iPhone and Apple Watch and simply tap their device to unlock their room and access other hotel spaces. The great value hotel chain, easyHotel, has introduced room key in Apple Wallet at its London City Shoreditch and Paris Aubervilliers hotels, reinforcing its commitment to making travel simpler and more seamless for guests. This innovation also moves easyHotel towards a more low-carbon, low-waste future by reducing reliance on traditional material key cards.

Room keys in Apple Wallet helps deliver a seamless experience from check-in to check-out. Once a room key is added and activated in Apple Wallet, guests can hold their device near the door’s

NFC-enabled lock to seamlessly access key cardprotected areas. With Express Mode, guests don’t need to unlock their device to use their room key in Apple Wallet - they can simply tap and enter. If an iPhone needs to be charged, guests can still use the device to unlock their room or common areas with Power Reserve.

After booking directly with easyHotel online or in-app, guests can add their room key to Apple Wallet. Once added, the room key in Apple Wallet will be updated to let them know when it’s time for check-in. After check-in is complete and a room is ready, the room key in Apple Wallet will be activated.

If an easyHotel guest needs to change rooms, extend their stay, or access late checkout, easyHotel can update their room key in Apple Wallet remotely - no need to visit the front desk. And when it’s time to leave, the room key will be deactivated automatically upon checkout.

The security and privacy of guests are top priorities at easyHotel. Room key in Apple Wallet takes full advantage of the privacy and security features built into iPhone and Apple Watch. When or where a easyHotel guest uses a room key in Apple Wallet is never shared with Apple or stored on Apple servers. If an iPhone or Apple Watch is misplaced, the guest can promptly use the Find My app to help locate it.

This launch was accomplished through a collaboration with Alliants, an expert in guest experience technology and dormakaba, a global leader in smart access control solutions. dormakaba’s digital lock technology and Alliants’ mobile key provisioning platform remove the need entirely for a physical key card, enabling guests to enjoy a fast, efficient, and digital checkin experience.

This latest innovation reflects easyHotel’s brand pillars, which commit to making travel super easy, super value, and super low carbon. As always, great value remains at the core of every stay, ensuring guests get a comfortable, well-located room at an affordable price.

easyHotel has seen a growing demand for digital solutions, which was also highlighted in a easyHotel study. The study revealed that more

than half of guests prefer mobile check-in and check-out. In line with easyHotel’s goals towards making travel as low-carbon friendly as possible, in 2023, easyHotel removed all plastic key cards and introduced FSC-accredited wooden key cards preventing the production of 55,000 plastic key cards annually.

Louis Poisson, Chief Operating Officer at easyHotel, added: “At easyHotel, we strive to make every stay as easy and stress-free as possible for our guests. The introduction of room key in Apple Wallet at our London City Shoreditch and Paris Aubervilliers hotels is a significant step towards an easy, secure and private experience that allows guests to access their rooms seamlessly with just their iPhone or Apple Watch. We’re excited to expand this to more of our hotels in the near future.”

Deter Dine and Dash During the Festive Season

- CARDSSAFE -

To prevent customers from making off without paying this festive season, hold their bank cards securely while they run a tab with CardsSafe.

In 2018, a Barclaycard study found that 1 in 20 customers walked out without paying their food or drink tab, and in the current climate, the numbers are increasing. The hospitality industry has been plagued with dine-and-dash since the cost-ofliving crisis and the pinch on everyone’s wallet. A few bad apples leaving a bar, pub, or restaurant without paying can cost the venue hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds every year.

The UK hospitality industry faces many challenges, even during the lucrative festive season. Hospitality business managers shouldn’t worry about dine-and-dash, either. Too many dine-and-dash cases are reported, but a simple, affordable solution exists. CardsSafe is a deterrent for walkouts because cards are securely stored in lockable units behind the bar.

CardsSafe is a proven and genuine deterrent for walkouts and chargebacks. It helps staff upsell and increases trust between the venue and customers. This is why big brands and independent venues utilise the system, including Young’s Pubs, Hilton Hotels, London Golf Club, Lord’s Cricket Ground, and many independent restaurants and bars.

Trond Rornes, Director of CardsSafe Ltd., told us. “We’ve experienced a significant increase in

enquiries relating to dine-and-dash. Most recently, a chain restaurant business with 50 venues took on our CardsSafe system because of far too many cases of customers making off without payment. We offer a solution to a national problem.”

The wireless CardsSafe units can sit discreetly behind the bar and work alongside existing POS. In addition, the system does not capture data, so it never breaches GDPR. The tab-keeping system is straightforward to use, so it requires minimal training and helps venues and customers to ensure secure tab-keeping.

At just £9.95* + VAT per unit per month rental, CardsSafe really pays for itself.

x1 £120 dine & dash = CardsSafe unit rental cost for one year.

CardsSafe is cost-effective—it pays for itself. Just one £120 walkout or a chargeback is the cost of one unit with ten draws per year. In addition, each hire comes with customer service troubleshooting, free replacement keys, and additional units that can be added at any time.

The question is, can you afford not to have CardsSafe as a part of your business?

*Plus, new customers have a sign-up fee of £39.95 and £9.50 P&P (plus VAT).

How labelling technology can help support customer safety and business reputation

Food outlets and catering providers understand the serious risks of food labelling errors – both to customers’ safety and a business’s reputation. To help prevent future hazards, there have been significant improvements to labelling standards in the industry.

Natasha’s Law, introduced in October 2021, has revolutionised the way food allergens are labelled on Pre-packaged for Direct Sale (PPDS) foods. While it has brought about positive changes, it also presents new challenges for industry workers as they strive to ensure ‘best practices’ are met and legal requirements are followed effectively.

Food outlets offering consumers PPDS food that is made on-site and packaged by the business, such as grab-and-go sandwiches or meals, must comply with Natasha’s Law by clearly displaying the food name, a full list of ingredients, and highlighting any allergens – which could be bolded or in another colour.

Failure to follow such rules could result in substantial fines or even criminal charges. To avoid penalties and maintain customer safety, businesses should implement effective and accurate labelling solutions.

Brother’s labelling solutions for PPDS foods allow food outlets and providers to produce high resolution labels, to help businesses meet

regulations, streamline labelling process and give customers more confidence in their choices.

Café Common Ground is one such business benefitting from Brother’s labelling solutions, after it started offering takeaway PPDS food for the first time. Brother’s TD-4520DN professional network desktop printer and free P-touch Editor software was the perfect solution for printing bespoke labels for ingredients and potential allergens as required by Natasha’s Law. The solution delivered fast, professional, and compliant labels that were easy to use.

Additionally, Brother’s stock rotation solution offers complete flexibility and can be integrated into existing digital services or used as a standalone solution with additional battery packs and touchscreen display units available.

As food labelling requirements continue to evolve, businesses should adopt flexible technology that can produce accurate, legible and cost-effective labels, to keep both customers and businesses safe.

Lamington Group Launches New AI Reception to Support Challenges Facing the Hospitality Sector

- LAMINGTON GROUP -

A new all-in-one, automated reception has been created to help relieve challenges facing the hospitality sector with promises to increase efficiency, support time-poor staff, and deliver a seamless experience for guests.

The industry’s challenges have sparked growing interest in automated solutions, with AI technology being explored as a way to reduce repetitive tasks, provide guests with greater control, and allow staff to focus on high-value interactions.

Developed specifically for hotels, B&Bs, serviced apartments, and hostels, the premise of DreamDesk, recently launched in partnership with Lamington Group, is to support hospitality teams

and address the pain points faced by the industry, by enabling breathing room to focus on the more rewarding and impactful elements of service.

Despite being labour intensive, the hospitality industry is facing a chronic staff shortage. According to UKHospitality, there are around 132,000 vacancies across the sector, 48% above pre-pandemic levels. Properties operated by leaner staff models, such as serviced apartments or aparthotels, are particularly vulnerable, often struggling to maintain a 24-hour reception.

Co-founded by Vieri Balboni and Robert Godwin (CEO of Lamington Group), both with extensive experience in hospitality, DreamDesk transforms

guest communications across voice, chatbot, email, and WhatsApp, automating up to 90% of routine tasks so staff can focus on guests.

Promising to reduce front desk workloads by 60%, DreamDesk’s sole aim is to help claw back valuable hours for staff in the industry. Key features include tailored language and formality to offer consistent tone and branding, multi-property scalability, reporting and analytics, 24/7 automation, PMS/ booking integrations, and the escalation of complex queries to a hotel’s human team.

DreamDesk has already successfully been integrated and is supporting a number of hotels’ challenges including room2 hometels and Lamington Apartments with plans to roll out its services into 50 hotels by the end of the year.

Vieri Balboni, Co-Founder of DreamDesk, said, “We know firsthand how demanding this sector can be and just how much time and effort goes into running a successful hospitality business. Time is always of the essence, staffing costs are notoriously high and guests’ expectations are rising as they expect the very best service each and every time. This is where DreamDesk comes in”.

“Let your staff be physically present and shine out front whilst DreamDesk handles the equally important background noise. We know that operators are still naturally concerned about deploying automated assistants and front desks, however, our case studies show how AI-powered solutions can reliably centre human interactions and relationships. By removing time-consuming and unrewarding routine tasks, hospitality professionals can concentrate on the personal touches that shape the guest experience. “

Lauren Hyde, Reservation Manager at room2 hometels, who have implemented DreamDesk into their guest experience, commented, “Using DreamDesk has enhanced our guest journey and improved efficiency within our Reservations team. The setup was straightforward, and integration was seamless”.

An Effective Approach to a Sustainable Hospitality Chain

GEO GREEN POWER -

In the UK, the hospitality sector is second only to manufacturing for its high energy consumption. This is according to recent analysis from the Office for National Statistics, which analysed the impacts of higher energy costs on UK businesses between 2021 and 2024.

Published in May 2025, this economic analysis showed that since 2022, hospitality businesses –in particular those which mainly offer food and drink services – have been more likely to cut their trading hours to reduce energy costs.

These are troubling circumstances, but the reality is that while energy costs remain high, hospitality businesses can help to reduce this financial burden by shifting towards sustainability.

Here, we’ve taken a closer look at the situation with expert analysis of the sector and useful guidance around the benefits hospitality businesses can achieve by considering renewable energy.

An ‘energy hungry’ sector

To give a clearer understanding of why this sector is being hit particularly hard right now, Kat

Auckland Communications and Projects Director of nationwide renewable energy installers, Geo Green Power has offered these thoughts:

“The hospitality sector is very energy hungry, more so if you’re providing catering. The high gas and electricity use within kitchens also tends to come at peak times and at high intensity. This, alongside the high wholesale costs we’re experiencing right now, is why so many within the sector are feeling the pinch.

“This is of course exacerbated for businesses and hotel chains that operate 24/7, have multiple sites and lots of customers.”

Looking for a sustainable solution?

“Ultimately you will save the most on your bills if you can reduce your energy usage and find a cheaper source. There are ways to reduce energy demand, and many businesses run programmes to switch off appliances, swap lightbulbs to LEDs and use timer switches. These initiatives save money and reduce emissions, and if you electrify your kitchens and heating, you will remove your gas bill entirely.

“Now, a typical response a business owner might offer here – which we’ve encountered before – is that while this will cut your gas consumption, it will skyrocket your electricity bills. Some catering teams may also question how this may affect food prep and cooking. To answer both of these points, it’s about adaptability.

“Firstly, with regards to electric kitchens, there’s a really positive example we saw recently where Ikoyi – a double Michelin star restaurant in London – made the switch to all-electric and the head chef has hugely praised all the subsequent benefits. Since doing this two years ago, they’ve reduced their energy consumption and maintained the high quality of their food with more efficient and controllable cooking processes.

“When it comes to increasing electricity bills, while there’s no getting away from the fact that usage will go up, there are ways to offset this – and this is where solar can help.”

The benefits of solar for the hospitality sector

“Speaking more generally about the industry, we believe there are three main benefits to investing in solar panels.

“The first is that you can simply save on your energy costs. By producing and using your own electricity from a system on your roof or the spare land outside your buildings, you reduce the amount you need to buy from the grid.

“The second is that you protect your business from future energy price increases. This is because your systems will continue to generate that same amount of electricity year after year for upwards of 25 years. You have essentially secured your energy price for that huge quantity of electricity across this length of time.

“Lastly, there are huge emissions savings to be made. Today, consumers are much more environmentally aware and increasingly prefer to support responsible businesses - so what better way to demonstrate a commitment to sustainability?

“We often get asked about the cost of an installation versus the benefits. So as a rule of thumb, after the first five to seven years of using solar panels, you will have paid for your installation, leaving your business free to generate more electricity and keep making savings.

“Another common question is around how demand can be managed after dark. For many businesses, installing solar PV and reducing their daytime grid usage is enough of an incentive. However, there are operations where daytime usage is limited. That’s when we would recommend integrating solar panels with battery storage, so energy generated in the day can be used during these peak nighttime periods.”

A smart investment

“The way the hospitality industry should look at solar is to view it as an investment in sustainability and a strategic step to help safeguard energy security and long-term success.”

If you’re looking to find out more about the benefits of solar or how your hospitality chain or business can become more sustainable, you can contact Geo Green Power here:

Powerful and Versatile Label Printing Technology for Hospitality

- STAR MICRONICS EMEA -

Given the rise in multichannel ordering across hospitality in recent years we are clearly seeing growing demand for customer collection and thirdparty delivery, resulting in the need for labelling products to print permanent and repositionable labels, food orders, clear delivery and takeaway customer order labels as well as bag seals.

With legislation around accurate ingredients and allergy identification for pre-packed food creating additional challenges, labelling products have a range of tasks to perform resulting in the emergence of versatile multifunctional printers that can respond and adapt to any environment and application.

Such printers allow different sizes and types of labels to be printed from one easy-to-use device including variable length food and allergy labels, nutrition information as well as food delivery labels and bag seals from web-based apps or local services. This enables businesses to be flexible and benefit from a futureproof solution that can accommodate a shift from traditional labelling to more future-orientated labelling applications.

In line with growing demand for omnichannel labelling solutions, Star has significantly expanded its Cloud-connected label printer range. These solutions meet the requirements of both traditional labelling applications as well as more diverse and future-orientated food labelling applications, while providing simple set-up and

provisioning of wireless printers to facilitate printing ‘out-of-the-box’.

Multifunctional Labelling Solutions

For businesses that require both food order and label printing solutions, the multi-media Star mCLabel3 can print traditional pre-formatted die cut labels, high adhesive permanent and semipermanent linerless labels media including low adhesive ‘re-stick’ labels from 25mm to 80mm, as well as receipts. These include labels such as permanent food and allergy labels for food storage, customer collection and delivery labels as well as customer orders.

User friendly with paper width detection and simple drop-in loading, different media can be loaded with ease, while jam free operation ensures reliable printing. Star’s Cloud-based free labelling app offers a wide range of pre-designed label templates, whilst the one touch label function allows for storing and printing of up to three label designs which can be printed instantly. And, thanks to its IP22-rated design the printer can be used safely in kitchen environments.

The mC-Label3 benefits from multiple interfaces for local PC, network, tablet and Cloud connectivity. In addition, it includes Bluetooth, Ethernet LAN and USB-C connectivity as well as direct sync and charge with supported tablets, together with hub connectivity to connect a scanner or customer display. Innovative WLAN and Bluetooth setup designed to simplify wireless connectivity ‘out-ofthe-box’, enables users to quickly connect via an auto-generated QR code or via the Star Quick Set Up Utility and be online within less than a minute. For multi-site installations, this provides simple and straightforward provisioning of multiple printers.

For a more compact labelling solution, the multifunctional version of the new Star mC-Label2 printer is ideal where space is limited thanks to its unique front-loading design allowing for easy paper loading and for the printer to fit neatly on or under the counter.

This printer equally boasts the same range of features as mC-Label3 including USB-C with power

delivery for iOS, Android and Windows tablets, USB-A, Ethernet LAN as well as Star CloudPRNT™ Next MQTT technology with additional connectivity options available on the mC-Label2 X4 models.

Despite its compact size at less than 10cm wide, the mC-Label2 can accommodate high-capacity media rolls up to 102mm in diameter, reducing the frequency of paper roll changes. Paper width is fully adjustable from 25mm to 60mm, while the high-resolution 300dpi print head ensures small format text, barcodes and graphics are clear and legible, even in paper saving mode.

Sustainable Label Printing

As popularity grows for sustainable packaging and reusable cups, accurate customer order identification becomes even more critical. Amongst the range of labelling solutions currently available, linerless labels without traditional backing paper offer both eco-friendly properties and operational efficiencies. Linerless media provides low adhesive, repositionable labels that can track an order through the entire preparation process from initial order to delivery, providing the potential for greater order accuracy and efficiency.

For all linerless media, a key benefit is the reduction in waste. With no backing paper to discard, linerless media offers significant paper saving properties with more labels per roll than standard label rolls. In terms of label size, linerless media is available in a range of widths, enabling businesses to create labels for any product type including larger labels for food deliveries to smaller, more compact beverage labels. Equally, variable length linerless labels enable the printing of shorter orders or labels with less information on minimal paper, further promoting efficiency.

Star linerless label printers allow food orders to be printed onto variable length ‘sticky receipts’ which can follow the order through the preparation process and can even be used as the final bag seal with customer pick up order number and / or delivery address.

The expertly designed and compact TSP143IV SK linerless label printer is ideally suited for this application, featuring a fast print speed whilst benefitting from an internal power supply and 4-year warranty as standard. Able to print on 40mm, 58mm or 80mm wide linerless re-stick labels as well as receipts, the TSP143IV SK includes a paper taken sensor to queue multiple orders. The X4 version of the printer connects to USB, Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth, WiFi and includes Star CloudPRNT technology for printing directly from central ordering platforms and websites.

Managed Cloud Label Printing for Real-Time Monitoring and Device Management

Alongside its core CloudPRNT technology, Star’s managed service StarIO.Online enables businesses to print to any CloudPRNT-compatible device with real-time monitoring and centralised control. Running on securely managed Cloud servers, StarIO.Online allows users to reliably track print jobs, barcode scans, new device connections as well as status monitoring of printers, scanners, connected cash drawers and other devices in a single or multi-venue environment. This can prove invaluable for venues in terms of deployment, updates and device management, saving time and reducing costs.

Festive Wine Serves

- LANCHESTER WINES -

Lanchester Wines’ James Dainty shares tips for making your Christmas wine list sparkle.

The festive season is a golden opportunity to refresh your wine list and offer guests something special. It’s a time for celebration, indulgence and, importantly, encouraging customers to trade up from their everyday choices.

A festive wine list doesn’t need to be complicated. Curate selections that suit your guests’ tastes and don’t be afraid to switch things up if something isn’t working. Better still, invite regulars to taste potential additions, this builds loyalty and adds excitement.

Food pairings are key. Rich reds like Amarone pair beautifully with roast beef, while Douro wines such as Vallegre Colheita Tinto offer exceptional value for hearty winter dishes. Pinot Noir from France or Oregon is ideal for duck or goose, and a classic Chablis works wonders with smoked salmon. For a sweet twist, try Vista Alegre Tawny Port with mince pies topped with Stilton, an unexpectedly delicious combination.

Sparkling wine is a must. Trevisana Bio Raboso Frizzante is a chilled, fizzy red bursting with wild berry flavours and subtle spice, perfect for party platters or roast meats. It’s a conversation starter and a brilliant alternative to traditional bubbles.

Don’t forget the classics. A well-chosen Brut Champagne by the glass, or large formats like magnums and jeroboams, can elevate your offering and add theatre to service. Rosé Champagne, now the UK’s second-largest category, is a festive essential.

Include no- and low-alcohol options too. Tommy Bacco Sparkling Non-Alcoholic offers celebratory fizz without the ABV, ideal for inclusive toasts.

Finally, lean into the experiential. Whether it’s a festive wine flight, themed tasting or a wine list that tells a story, these touches help your venue stand out and create memorable moments.

The One-Stop-Shop for Tip-Top Cellars

- CHEMISPHERE & BEER PIPER -

People only buy a second pint based on the quality of the first and a good pint starts with exceptional cellar hygiene and immaculately clean glass ware – that’s where sister companies Chemisphere and Beer Piper are here to help.

Successful pubs, bars and restaurants that pride themselves on maintaining high cellar hygiene standards know that carrying out regular deep cleans on beer lines, overhauling glass ware care, as well as putting in place the correct processes is necessary to keep those customers happy. As the old adage goes, failing to prepare is preparing to fail.

Chemisphere continue educate customers and manufacture their superior products as part of their ongoing mission to raise the bar for quality standards across the industry.

Further cementing Chemisphere as the industry expert on what goes into the perfect pint is the success of their training academy. Brewing industry luminary Allan Stevenson heads up the academy offering courses from one hour Perfect Pint to daylong Masterglass courses for technicians and quality teams. “Allan is one of only a handful of Master Draughtsmen and what he doesn’t know about beer, beer quality and the industry as a whole, isn’t worth knowing!” said Linda Adamson, Marketing Manager at Chemisphere UK.

Everyone agrees that training is massively important in the industry but not everyone is investing in it as they assume it’s expensive. This is not the case at the Chemisphere Training Academy as prices start from as little as £10 per delegate – making it extremely affordable for everyone. They are keeping prices low to further their commitment to raising quality standards across the industry by making top quality training accessible to everyone.

Chemisphere’s sister company, Beer Piper, completes the trio of offerings as the home of a ground-breaking automated beer line cleaning system. Beer Piper are reminding outlets that they’re here to make beer line cleaning simpler, safer, quicker and cheaper.

Their latest, next generation, BP5 machine incorporates all the amazing capabilities of its predecessors as well as a host of new game-changing features. It replicates a traditional manual beer line cleaning sequence: flushing with water, dosing with chemicals, leaving to soak and ending with a final flush of water, while recording and reporting every step to the Beer Piper cloud-based portal.

Jeff Singer, Commercial Director at Beer Piper said “Beer Piper takes care of your line cleaning so you can focus more time and energy on your customers. Not only does it free up your time, it can also save you money by reducing wastage and negating the need to use costly gases. It’s no secret that times are tough and businesses are worried and the hospitality industry is no exception. Identifying new money saving measures is at the forefront of everyone’s minds and this is where Beer Piper can really help.”

The superior quality chemicals used by Beer Piper are manufactured by Chemisphere and ensure lines are immaculate and allow clients to serve the best pints possible.
