N OVAC A N Y S H OW P R E V I E W

Shaping Hospitality’s Next Chapter: A Q&A with Dan Assor on Bringing NoVacancy to London - NOVACANCY NoVacancy is already well-established in Australia – what motivated you to bring the event to London, and what is your long-term vision for this UK edition? NoVacancy has become a catalyst for innovation and connection across the hotel and accommodation industry in Australia, and we felt there was a genuine opportunity to bring that same spirit to the UK. London is one of the world’s most dynamic hospitality markets, yet there hasn’t been a truly comprehensive platform that unites every corner of the accommodation ecosystem, from hotels and serviced apartments to holiday parks, hostels, and resorts. Our long-term vision is to make NoVacancy London the go-to annual meeting place for operators and suppliers to discover, collaborate, and shape the future of the industry together.

What do you aim to offer to hotel , operators and professionals who attend NoVacancy London?

In a market with established hotel trade shows, how will NoVacancy London distinguish itself and address gaps that other events might not be covering?

We want every attendee to walk away inspired, informed, and connected. That means access to world-class speakers, direct conversations with solution providers, and the chance to meet peers facing similar challenges. Whether you’re rethinking your tech stack, looking for design inspiration, or exploring new revenue strategies, NoVacancy London will provide practical takeaways and fresh ideas that you can implement immediately.

We’re building something broader in scope and fresher in energy. NoVacancy is not just about products, it’s about ideas, solutions, and relationships. The event is designed around ten dedicated content tracks, each tackling real operational and commercial challenges, while our exhibitor mix reflects every facet of running an accommodation business. We want visitors to leave with tangible solutions and new partnerships that can transform their businesses.

How will you measure the success of NoVacancy London, in terms of exhibitor ROI, attendee engagement, and long-term impact on the hospitality industry, and what do you hope the hotel sector gains from it?

Your conference agenda highlights themes like technology, sustainability, and design. Which emerging trends or innovations do you most expect to drive conversation among hoteliers at this first London edition?

Success for us goes beyond numbers, it’s about impact. If our exhibitors leave with valuable leads and meaningful relationships, and our visitors tell us they’ve found new solutions and ideas that genuinely help their business, we’ll have achieved our goal. Longer term, we hope NoVacancy London becomes a driving force for innovation and collaboration in UK hospitality, a place where the industry comes together each year to shape its next chapter.

AI and automation will undoubtedly dominate discussion, not as buzzwords, but as practical tools to enhance efficiency, personalise the guest experience, and unlock new revenue. We’re also seeing growing momentum around sustainable operations, from energy management and circular design to waste reduction. And on the design side, the blending of wellness, workspace, and leisure is reshaping what accommodation looks and feels like in 2026 and beyond.

Amanda Oldfield: From Field to Five–Star Sleep — How an Inspirational Leader Is Redefining British Hospitality Comfort - W ROU G H T I RON AND BR ASS BED CO Her philosophy is simple: “If you make something, know where every part of it comes from” — and honour the people behind it.

When Made in Britain announced Amanda Oldfield as the Winner of the 2025 Inspirational Leader of the Year Award, the hospitality world took notice — and for good reason. As founder of Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co., Amanda has not only revived a near-lost British craft but reshaped what premium sleep can mean for boutique hotels, luxury inns, and interior designers seeking authenticity and excellence.

That ethos led her to take the unusual step of becoming a shepherdess herself, forging direct partnerships with British farmers and sourcing wool fleece “one farm at a time.” This isn’t storytelling — it’s traceability that can be verified, from the field to the workshop to the guestroom.

Her win is more than an individual accolade: it signals a shift in how the industry thinks about provenance, craftsmanship, and the value of true British-made sleep experiences.

Why Her Win Matters to the Hospitality Sector A Leader Rewriting the Rules of Craft and Comfort

In an era defined by guest expectations for transparency, wellbeing, and sustainability, Amanda’s leadership aligns seamlessly with the needs of boutique hotels and luxury accommodation providers. Her award validates a model that blends craft integrity, regenerative supply chains, and multigenerational skill — the same values today’s travellers look for in the places they choose to stay.

Amanda co-founded Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co. at 45 — an age when most entrepreneurs are told they’re “too late.” Today, at 67, she leads a team that builds some of Britain’s most meticulously crafted metal beds and hand-made mattresses, proving that leadership grounded in dignity, transparency, and courage has no age limit.

- 18 -

EDITOR’S CHOICE

Where some brands make sustainability claims, Amanda’s work makes them tangible.

Award-Winning Beds & Mattresses Built for Exceptional Guest Experience Boutique hotels increasingly differentiate themselves not by how their rooms look but by how their rooms feel — and sleep now sits at the heart of that competitive landscape. As outlined in the brand’s hospitality guidance, the bed becomes the “silent ambassador” of the room, shaping every guest review, return booking, and brand impression. Amanda’s leadership is directly reflected in the products her team creates:

Her Wool for Welfare initiative turns British wool into a force for social good, supporting local children living in poverty by repurposing fleece for horticultural use.

1. Traceable, Single-Farm, British Wool Mattresses Each mattress is filled with fleece from one named British farm — an unprecedented level of provenance that gives boutique hotels a unique storytelling touchpoint. This isn’t wool blended through bulk supply chains. It’s traceable, pure, and ethically sourced.

For hospitality brands seeking meaningful ESG alignment, her approach offers an authentic model: sustainability that is practical, local, and humancentred.

The Opportunity for Designers & Hotels 2. Naturally Better for Guests Guests benefit not just from authenticity, but from superior sleep science: • Thermoregulation and moisture control • Natural buoyancy and pressure relief • Hypoallergenic, dust-mite-resistant properties • Fire safety without harsh chemical treatments

For interior designers, boutique hotels, and premium B&Bs, Amanda’s win is more than industry news — it’s an invitation. Choosing an award-winning British manufacturer isn’t simply about specifying a bed or mattress. It’s about elevating the guest experience through: • A verified provenance story guests love to share • Superior natural sleep performance • Design continuity and comfort consistency across properties • Stronger sustainability credentials • Products built to last decades, not seasons

This translates into better reviews, fewer complaints, and longer-lasting mattresses. 3. Craftsmanship That Reduces Replacement Cycles Hand side stitching, British-made materials, and an ethos of longevity mean every mattress is built to endure high occupancy. Many models come with guarantees of up to 30 years. For hoteliers focused on lifecycle cost, this is a compelling economic advantage.

And most importantly, it’s about aligning your project with the leadership and values recognised at the highest national level.

“Guests Remember How They Slept” — Amanda’s Legacy in Hospitality

4. Design-Led Iron & Brass Beds Made in Britain Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co. also offers a collection of handcrafted iron and brass frames that bring understated luxury into hospitality spaces. Built in their Norfolk workshop, each bed is designed to withstand commercial turnover without compromising aesthetics. These are not massproduced imports — they’re future heirlooms with quiet, timeless beauty.

In an era where hospitality differentiation is harder than ever, Amanda Oldfield has given the industry something uniquely powerful: the chance to offer guests a night’s sleep grounded in British craft, regenerative farming, and real integrity. Hotels that build this into their rooms don’t just create beautiful spaces — they create unforgettable nights.

A Leader with Impact That Extends Beyond the Business

Amanda’s award also recognises her wider contribution to community and sustainability.

Do Not Disturb: Steaming in Progress - P ROP R ESS Does your hotel have Propress on its radar? If not, it’s time to check Propress MINI, our handheld steamer, into your hotel. The Iron Age is over; there’s no need to clutter your guests’ storage space with a cumbersome iron and board. Established in 1980, Propress is the original steaming brand supplying shops, soft furnishers, hotels, and resorts — removing creases in fabric wherever they appear. Our steamers are the highest-quality, longestlasting, and most reliable on the market. Guests often look to remove creases from clothes when unpacking or after a few days’ stay, especially those travelling for business or individuals attending events where wrinkle-free clothing is important.

In hotels, professional steamers have traditionally been used for housekeeping, banqueting and events, to provide a five-star freshening and anti-creasing touch to staff uniforms, curtains, tablecloths, and chair covers. (Steaming even kills bed bugs and their eggs almost immediately.)

Coupled with its ability to treat delicate materials, the Propress MINI is ready to go in just 45 seconds, making it a match made in heaven for wedding attendees. As the old saying goes: “Steam if you want to go faster!”

Propress MINI can be used on a variety of clothing, from suits to dresses, and even delicate fabrics. It’s so versatile, it can be used vertically, for hanging fabric, or horizontally on bed linen and upholstery.

The Iron Age Is Over • More wardrobe space without an ironing board • Easier to use and more guest friendly • Projects a contemporary image for your hotel • Less damaging to clothes.

Art-Led Digital Displays Transforming Guest Experience in Hospitality - VI EUNI TE As hotels continue to refine how they communicate with guests, many are turning to digital solutions that elevate ambience as much as they improve operational efficiency. Holiday Inn Telford is a standout example, recently replacing printed posters with art-grade digital canvases designed to enhance the guest experience from the moment visitors step inside.

The hotel now uses the displays for a wide range of messaging. “We’ve been able to advertise anything… Christmas promotions, leisure club prices, any sort of general guest information” Coe explains. Staff manage all of this through the Vieunite Pro portal, which Coe describes as “super easy”, adding that it “takes five minutes to show somebody else how to upload digital content”.

The hotel selected Vieunite Pro and the Textura digital canvas to bring a more premium, design-led approach to on-site messaging. The goal was simple: create displays that blend into high-end interiors while giving staff a fast, flexible way to update information remotely.

While the hotel has already reported an uplift in seasonal bookings after installing the canvases, the broader value of Vieunite Pro extends well beyond any single project. Hospitality venues using the platform gain access to a vast curated art library – organised into themed collections – allowing them to enrich ambience with world-class artwork. At the same time, these artled displays create a more receptive environment for promotional messaging, delivering updates and offers in a way that feels integrated, elegant and far more engaging than typical digital signage.

For David Coe, Group Hotels Operations Director at Southwater Event Group, the visual quality was the first major difference. “It’s the clarity of the image… it actually looks like a piece of artwork… it just looks so, so professional”. This artwork-accurate aesthetic allowed the hotel to place screens in high-traffic areas, including washrooms, without disrupting the carefully designed environment.

Hilton Los Angeles Airport Announces $50 Million Guest Room Renovation - HI LTON LA Hilton Los Angeles Airport has embarked on a $50 million renovation of its 1,234-room hotel, located close to the Los Angeles International Airport, SoFi Stadium, Intuit Dome, and The Kia Forum.

SoFi Stadium. As Los Angeles prepares for an overall unprecedented influx of global travel in the coming year and beyond, the hotel’s updated design and proximity to both the airport and major venues will position it as a premier destination for international travelers, business travelers, families, sports fans, concertgoers, and media.

Guest accommodations will be fully refreshed, with all two-double-bed rooms converted to two-queenbed configurations. The refreshed design combines modern minimalism with mid-century influences, emphasizing clean lines, neutral tones, and natural textures. Queen room types will feature warm orange accents for a vibrant touch, while king rooms will incorporate deep teal tones for a refined, calming atmosphere. Each room will include contemporary furnishings, redesigned bathrooms with a standing shower or shower/tub combination, new mattresses, mini-refrigerators, enhanced lighting, and upgraded connectivity with USB and USB-C charging outlets. Accessible rooms will also feature automated curtain controls and other ADA-compliant enhancements.

“It’s a once-in-a-generation moment for Los Angeles; few cities have experienced such a remarkable lineup of global sporting events in consecutive years,” said Jeff Ragonese, general manager, Hilton Los Angeles Airport. “As the world arrives for the FIFA World Cup in 2026, the Super Bowl in 2027, and the Olympic Games in 2028, Hilton Los Angeles Airport stands ready to host guests with refreshed spaces and hospitality that reflect the energy and spirit of this incredible city, and is also worthy of the world’s stage.” Hilton Los Angeles Airport is located at 5711 West Century Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90045. Why Independent Hotels Are Rewriting the Rules of Modern Hospitality - T HE H I GH FI ELD By Andy Lampard, Co-Founder & Co-Owner of The Highfield and Architectural and Interior Design Consultant. Andy and Lindsey Lampard’s work has shaped some of the world’s most iconic luxury destinations. For more than a decade, our industry has been shaped by consolidation. Big brands, big data and even bigger operating systems have dominated the landscape. But the momentum is shifting, and quickly. Across the UK, independent hotels, especially those rooted in rural settings like ours, are outperforming their corporate counterparts in guest loyalty, spend and sentiment. From where I stand, the reason is simple: guests aren’t looking for perfection anymore. They’re looking for presence. They want places that feel alive, not engineered. And independents are uniquely placed to offer that. Walk into a global chain, and the experience is reliably consistent. But consistency has tipped into homogeneity. I’ve lost count of the number of hotels where the lobby, the coffee and even the lighting feel identical, no matter the country or context.

- 26 -

CASE STUDY

Correctness has replaced character. And guests are pushing back. People are actively seeking individuality and authenticity - a change I’ve also experienced along the way, during my work with some of the world’s most iconic luxury destinations. The data backs this up: design-led, independent hotels have grown their market share over the last three years, despite inflationary pressures and rising operating costs. The differentiator isn’t scale. It’s soul. Guests can feel the people behind an independent hotel. They can sense the authorship. At The Highfield, this ethos guides every decision we make. One of the biggest shifts I’ve observed is the rise of what I call humanised design: an approach that prioritises emotional comfort over corporate polish. For us, that means using materials that age naturally, designing lighting that diffuses rather than dazzles, and shaping landscapes that guide the guest experience just as meaningfully as any menu or amenity.

The next phase is integrated sustainability: buildings that heat efficiently, landscapes that regenerate, local supply chains that prioritise provenance, and operations that genuinely reduce waste. True sustainability is something guests feel, not something they’re told to feel.

We’re designing for the nervous system as much as for the eye. People want softness, warmth, atmosphere… spaces that help them exhale. And this aligns with a far bigger cultural change: the mainstreaming of wellness.

The wider forces shaping our industry - climate pressures, wellness culture, design evolution and a backlash against algorithmic standardisation - are pushing hospitality into a new era. And this is where independents have a structural advantage. We can adapt at speed. We can respond overnight to a seasonal ingredient, collaborate with a local maker, or adjust our spaces to reflect cultural shifts. I don’t need a sign-off from a brand guardian in another country to redesign a room or rethink an experience.

Guests aren’t just looking for a change of scenery; they’re looking for renewal. This is where rural hospitality has a genuine advantage. Natural England’s research shows that 87% of people * say time in the countryside improves their wellbeing. The health benefits of outdoor exercise alone are valued at £8.4 billion annually.**

This agility shows up in the guest journey too: hyperlocal menus, personalised touches, evolving interiors, and spaces that feel authored rather than mandated. Hospitality is, at its core, a human business. The places that lead with humanity will be the ones that thrive.

The countryside gives us a head start. Fresh air, natural light, big skies and the psychology of open space are assets that no hotel brand can fabricate. Independent rural hotels are using this advantage to create stays centred on recalibration rather than escape: dawn meadow walks, nature-based programming, repurposed heritage buildings, wildflower meadows and kitchen gardens. These experiences aren’t trends for us; they’re the foundations of how our guests want to live while they’re with us.

If the last era of hospitality was defined by scale, the next will be defined by intimacy. Luxury is becoming quieter, more emotional, more connected to place and story. People want to feel known. They want to step into a space with a heartbeat. The future of hospitality won’t belong to the biggest brands. It will belong to the most human spaces.

Sustainability, too, has moved into a new phase. “Eco-luxury” has become so widespread that it’s now part of the baseline: reclaimed timbers, organic cotton bedding, refillable products. All positive steps, but I think we’re entering a moment of reckoning. Guests are increasingly able to distinguish between meaningful sustainability and what I’d call ecotheatre.

And in that future, independents will be the benchmark rather than the alternative.

This years’ theme is ‘Material Evolution’ and will stress a rethinking of newness and how the industry can make the shift from waste to worth. The theme will encourage exhibitors and visitors alike to celebrate thoughtful design and redefine what it means to be new whilst championing circular systems, material transparency and inventive reuse.

Brewin Design Office Unveils Design for Its First Hotel in Japan: Capella Kyoto - BR E WI N D ESI GN A Contemporary Machiya Shaped by Craft, Culture, and the Poetry of Space

and unexpected. The site’s past is not erased; rather it is reinterpreted. Incorporating reclaimed timber and select artefacts from the former school grounds, the hotel retains a connection to its history, offering an authenticity and sense of continuity unique within Kyoto’s luxury landscape.

Singapore-based Brewin Design Office has crafted the interior design of Capella Kyoto, opening in Spring 2026 in the city’s historic Gion district. Working alongside architects Kengo Kuma and Associates, the design draws on Kyoto’s cultural heritage and Brewin’s contemporary approach to luxury to establish a clear interplay of craft, materiality, and atmosphere. The property presents a modern-day machiya, reflecting the city’s architectural sensibilities through a sequence of considered spaces, expressed alongside a quiet composition of light, texture, and refined detailing.

A Choreographed Arrival Guests enter through a narrow Gion-style passageway lined with shoji screens that soften the sound of a hidden waterfall. The approach is intentionally prolonged — unfolding through a series of gentle intervals that naturally slow one’s pace and heighten awareness of the surroundings. This calibrated progression echoes the neighbourhood’s pattern of discovery, where movement through slender alleyways gives way to moments of quiet reveal. This journey carries a gentle sense of anticipation, culminating in a modern airlock framing a sculptural reimagination of the shimenawa, a sacred rope marking the transition from the everyday and the contemplative.

Capella Kyoto is located in Miyagawa-cho and is built on the grounds of a former elementary school. Steps from Kyoto’s oldest Zen temple, Kenninji, and the historic Kaburenjo Theatre, the property draws on the neighbourhood’s deep cultural lineage, embodying a spirit of learning and artistry, articulated through a contemporary Kyoto vernacular that is both familiar

Beyond this threshold, the hotel opens into a cloistered tsuboniwa courtyard garden, which is the heart of the property. The courtyard integrates a meditative water feature and an open-air performance platform, establishing a spatial calm that guides the entire project and echoes Kyoto’s reverence for nature as architecture’s equal.

and interiors don’t merely frame experiences; they orchestrate a journey of discovery that honours both Kyoto’s rich legacy and the intimate, bespoke hospitality that defines Capella.”

A Curated Dialogue of Art and Architecture Capella Kyoto is the result of a collaboration between Brewin Design Office, Capella Hotel Group, and Kengo Kuma & Associates – a collaboration that brings together architecture, interiors, and hospitality through a shared belief in quiet luxury and cultural continuity.

Craft as a Structure Kyoto’s craftsmanship forms the backbone of the interior design. Rather than using traditional materials as decorative accents, Brewin Design Office employs them as architectural building blocks. Hand-applied earthen plaster walls, carved timber joinery influenced by chõba tansu merchant chests, and authentic shoji panels composed with precision and restraint. Lacquer, bronze, ceramic and handmade washi paper appear throughout, their tactility creating a rhythm of surfaces that reward close observation.

While Kengo Kuma & Associates led the architectural design, Brewin Design Office shaped the interior narrative, from guestrooms and suites to restaurants and the spa, translating the architectural rhythm into a layered, sensory experience that unites proportion, texture, and light.

“Kyoto’s mastery lies in its restraint,” says Robert Cheng, Founder of Brewin Design Office. “Our ambition was to express its invisible qualities – stillness, rhythm, material intelligence – through the language of design rather than decoration.”

“Rather than replicating tradition, we sought to evolve its essence through a contemporary lens,” Cheng explains. “It’s about carrying forward Kyoto’s spirit of discretion and intimacy, not merely referencing its past.”

Guestrooms as Private Retreats

Capella Kyoto’s interiors extend beyond spatial design into a curated dialogue between art and architecture. The hotel houses a permanent art collection featuring contemporary Japanese artists, curated by the property’s full-time Art Curator. This ongoing narrative of renewal is reinforced by the Artist-in-Residence programme, where traditional artisans and modern creatives intersect in the hotel’s public and private spaces.

Guestrooms and suites act as private sanctuaries, centering the Japanese ritual of bathing. Deep stone tubs anchor each room, framed by muted surfaces and tactile finishes that invite slowness and contemplation. The design prioritises sensory quiet — a distilled interpretation of Kyoto’s aesthetic of simplicity. “At Capella Kyoto, every design decision serves a deeper purpose: to slow time, heighten awareness, and create space for cultural immersion that reveals the authentic spirit of place,” says John Blanco, Cluster General Manager, Capella Kyoto. “The architecture

Pastéis de Belém: One of Lisbon’s Most Iconic Bakeries Reimaged by Renowned Designer Gracinha Viterbo - V I T E R BO I N TER I OR D ESI GN Viterbo Interior Design Ateliers was honored to be invited to design a new space for the world-renowned Pastéis de Belém (Portuguese egg tarts), a Lisbon institution since 1837. This new retail area, located beside the original shop, was conceived to complement the historic space and respond to the ever-growing number of visitors who travel from around the world to experience this national treasure. Designed by Gracinha Viterbo, the project reflects her signature balance between timeless elegance and modern sensibility, while honoring the brand’s deep heritage and identity. The new interior evokes the artisanal essence of Portuguese tradition, while introducing a contemporary architectural language that feels both familiar and refreshing. Light oak woods, handmade tiles, and textured lime plaster walls were combined to create a space that feels warm, authentic, and timeless. The lighting concept was carefully developed

to highlight the craftsmanship of the finishes and to evoke the gentle glow of Lisbon’s afternoon light.

This new space also acts as a prelude to what’s to come. In 2026, Viterbo Interior Design Ateliers will lead the full redesign of the flagship store, a project that will reinterpret the brand’s legacy while creating an environment that speaks to a global audience. The forthcoming redesign aims to preserve the charm and authenticity of the original shop while enhancing its functionality, flow, and aesthetic coherence with the new retail space.

The layout was meticulously planned to optimize flow, ensuring visitors can enjoy a smoother experience as they purchase their pastries or coffee while remaining connected to the charm of the original space. The design creates a dialogue between eras — a conversation between the heritage of the past and the creativity of the present.

Blending tradition and modernity, the new space pays tribute to Portuguese craftsmanship through carefully curated materials, bespoke detailing, and an atmosphere that enhances the customer experience, all while safeguarding the essence of one of Portugal’s most beloved cultural landmarks.

Attention to detail defines every corner: bespoke counters and shelving were designed to integrate functionality with beauty, while subtle brass accents add sophistication without overpowering the simplicity of the materials. The brand’s iconic blue and white tones are reinterpreted in contemporary textures and patterns, maintaining the soul of the original while expressing a renewed identity.

Beyond aesthetics, the project celebrates a philosophy deeply rooted in the Viterbo ethos — design as emotion, storytelling, and connection. Every surface and proportion was thought to engage the senses, transforming a visit to Pastéis de Belém into an experience of discovery and belonging. The project reflects the studio’s broader vision: to elevate Portuguese heritage through contemporary craftsmanship and timeless design language.

Rockwell Group Unveils Redesign of W New York – Union Square - ROCK WELL GROUP 25 years on, the studio returns to reimagine the landmark hotel and introduce the next chapter of the W Hotels brand

Living Room Rockwell Group, the award-winning architecture and design practice, has revealed the transformation of W New York – Union Square, celebrating both the 25-year anniversary of the hotel’s opening and the launch of the brand’s new global design direction. Originally launched in 2000 and located within the historic Beaux-Arts Guardian Life Building, W New York – Union Square is a symbol of modern hospitality in New York. Its distinctive four-storey mansard roof links the building to the elegance of French Second Empire and late-19th-century Parisian architecture. For Rockwell Group, the project signifies a homecoming. The studio designed the first W Hotel on Lexington Avenue in 1998, followed by W New

York – Union Square two years later, just steps from its own offices. Now, a quarter of a century on, Rockwell Group has returned to fully reimagine the property as the flagship for a multi-year global rebrand of W Hotels commissioned by Marriott International.

Lobby “W New York – Union Square was a milestone in our history when we first designed it 25 years ago,” says David Rockwell, Founder and President of Rockwell Group. “Revisiting the property today has allowed us to create a design that reflects both the brand’s evolution and the vibrancy of the Union Square neighbourhood. It’s about honouring the past whilst introducing an experience that feels fresh, dynamic, and attuned to a new generation of guests.”

Living Room

Union Square Park, the cultural and social centre of the neighbourhood, inspires the redesign. It is a tale of contrasts – geometric landmarks and contemporary art, historic mansard roofs, and lively farmers’ markets all inform a material and colour palette that changes with the seasons. As guests cross the threshold into the hotel, the arrival area serves as a smooth transition from street to hotel. The energy and bustle of urban life is reflected in the contrasting black and white of the houndstooth fabric banquette, veined marble floors, and a commissioned mural by artist Shantell Martin, whose empowerment-focused pieces make an entryway impact.

A showstopping, asymmetrical, curved feature staircase with polished metal contours features a bespoke rug that appears to flow down the stairs like swirls of paint. Inspired by the Faig Ahmed artwork “Doubts,” the rug uses an abstraction of the hotel’s collective colours, swirling into a larger pool at the check-in area, where it catches the eye; drawing people to the second floor. At the heart of the hotel is the Living Room. Originally a ballroom, the double-height space has been energised with a palette of blue and orange. Marble

The space offers Devoción coffee by day and cocktails by night.

panelling, mother-of-pearl accents, and a mural by Brooklyn-based art collective En Viu celebrating New York’s maritime history. In guestrooms and suites, the colour palette shifts from autumnal warmth to spring freshness, expressed through botanical carpets, ombré wall coverings, and lacquered finishes. Each room is divided into zones for work and leisure, anchored by a bold checkerboard minibar. In the E-Wow suites, ombré drapery and walls gradate from gold to green, creating an atmospheric play of light. Custom artwork continues the hotel’s commitment to showcasing local artists and New York’s cultural vitality.

Seahorse Restaurant On the ground floor of the hotel is Seahorse, a 130seat modern seafood brasserie created in partnership with restaurateur John McDonald and Mercer Street Hospitality. Anchored by a central seafood bar, the restaurant features a zinc bar top, warm wood

From the grand staircase and botanical resin bar to the ombré-lit E-Wow suites, W New York – Union Square reflects the vibrancy of its neighbourhood and the optimism of a new generation of travellers. Rockwell Group’s design serves as both a homecoming and a fresh beginning – a flagship that captures the spirit of New York while charting the future path of W Hotels globally. Floors that Don’t Cost the Earth: Karta Named Global Winner at SBID International Design Awards 2025 - K ARTA For decades, most resilient flooring has relied on plastics and petrochemicals, materials that are carbon intensive to produce and difficult to recycle at end of life. As millions of square metres are fitted globally each year, the environmental cost grows. Karta was founded to offer a better way, and, this year, that mission was recognised internationally. Karta’s Recycled Leather Series has been named Winner in the Product Design: Flooring & Floor Coverings category at the SBID International Design Awards 2025. Judged by industry experts and shaped by a public vote, the award honours products that combine design excellence with meaningful environmental progress.

of real timber built over three decades by Ted Todd and Woodworks. With no recolours and no repeats in 20 boards, these floors preserve the authentic tone, variation, and character of real timber. A plastic-free Karta Plated® topcoat delivers AC5 performance for commercial and residential use.

Each Karta floor begins with circular materials. The Recycled Leather Series diverts leather offcuts from landfill, re-engineering them into a durable, tactile core. A PEFC-certified wood fibre layer makes use of timber offcuts that would otherwise be wasted, while a cork backing, harvested without felling a single tree, provides comfort and removes the need for underlay.

This award recognises that sustainability, performance, and beauty can coexist.

How Contract Furniture Group Helped Redefine a Classic Venue

pieces include Alice and Bergen Lounge Chairs in the Live Lounge and Ambrosia Side Chairs in Brasserie32, each with gold-tipped feet. Marble quartz tabletops, alongside Zeus and Atlas table bases with gold finishes, enhanced the opulence, while casual dining areas incorporated durable laminate tops with Aldeburgh Table Bases.

Moving from Business to Pleasure Located near Windsor, The Runnymede on Thames Hotel and Spa is known for its classic style and picturesque riverside views. In late 2023, Warner Leisure Hotels acquired the site, aiming to transform it from a business-focused venue into a countryside retreat. The multi-million-pound refurbishment began in early 2024 and was completed by late September.

Style with Sustainability A key service was the Refresh, Rejuvenate, Refurbish offering. Many existing furniture pieces were reupholstered and refinished, extending their lifespan. Fixed seating in the Market Kitchen was refreshed to match the new design. Additionally, custom joinery, including lobby desks with marble tops and wall cladding for the Holiday Hub, added a refined touch.

A Study in Form and Function The ambitious transformation included updates to 250 rooms, restaurants, and entertainment spaces. Having previously worked with Warner Leisure Hotels on projects like Heythrop Hall, Contract Furniture Group was initially tasked with refurbishing the bedrooms, including 25 new rooms. However, after delivering an exceptional sample room, the firm expanded its role to include public areas such as Market Kitchen, Brasserie32, and the Live Lounge.

A Grand Reopening The Runnymede Hotel’s reopening in September was a resounding success. Now a stylish adult-only retreat, the transformed venue has received glowing feedback. The collaboration between Warner Leisure Hotels, Virserius Studio, and Contract Furniture Group has created a standout destination, seamlessly blending style, comfort, and functionality.

Collaborating with New York-based Virserius Studio, Contract Furniture Group played a key role in bringing the vision to life over 11 months.

From New Builds to Refurbishments: Creating Spaces that Endure - V I YA R FUR NI TUR E At VIYAR FURNITURE, we take pride in our ability to work seamlessly across different types of projects – from furnishing new developments to revitalising existing interiors. With our own versatile production facilities, we can deliver furnishing and interior solutions of any scale and complexity, fully tailored to each client’s needs. Whether it’s a modern residential complex in London or the restoration of a heritage hotel in Kraków, our focus remains the same: crafting furniture solutions that are functional, elegant, and built to last.

Client: INTEX GROUP SPZ OO Location: Hotel Monika, Kraków, Poland

Furnishing of a residential complex in London, UK

breathing new life into a Kraków landmark. Partnering with INTEX GROUP SPZ OO, VIYAR FURNITURE restored and furnished five floors of the historic hotel, transforming it into a modern hospitality space with 30 fully equipped apartments.

This residential complex project in central London showcases our capability to deliver comprehensive, high-spec furniture solutions in one of the world’s most demanding markets. The building comprises 37 apartments, each with its own unique layout and aesthetic requirements.

Each apartment includes a kitchen, bedroom, and ample storage, designed to offer guests the warmth of home combined with the sophistication of a boutique hotel. Natural colour palettes, ergonomic layouts, and soft lighting create a welcoming atmosphere, while materials were chosen for their strength and resilience – essential in high-traffic environments.

Partnering with MIB Construction LTD, VIYAR FURNITURE handled the full process – from developing furniture concepts and selecting materials to production and coordination of installation.

The project’s interior aesthetic blends timeless charm with contemporary design. We used a mix of materials such as chipboard, metal, and stone, each carefully selected for its texture, tone, and durability. The result is a space that feels both modern and enduring – a reflection of VIYAR FURNITURE’s philosophy that great design should stand the test of time. Across all projects, our approach remains consistent: uniting craftsmanship, advanced production capabilities, and thoughtful design to create interiors and furniture that not only look beautiful but also perform flawlessly for years to come.

Client: MIB Construction LTD Location: London, UK Photography by Alicja Korbinska For this development, we used a variety of reliable materials, from MDF and chipboard to metal and stone elements, combining durability with refined aesthetics. Every piece was designed for long-term comfort and ease of use, with high-quality fittings, soft-close mechanisms, and integrated lighting that enhance both function and everyday experience.

At VIYAR FURNITURE, we bring any interior vision to life – from unique custom pieces to full-scale projects. We don’t believe in limits – only possibilities. Let your ideas take form with us!

Project Spotlight: The NinetyThird by Qatar Airways - o2 Arena After five years of meticulous planning and overcoming pandemic challenges, the latest commercial project by Chaplins Trade - the ‘NinetyThird by Qatar Airways’ Lounge at The O2 is finally live. Tasked with curating a luxurious furniture and fabric collection that complements each room’s unique aesthetic while supporting large-scale events, the Chaplins team, led by Darren Smith, successfully delivered a space offering the “ best seat in the house.” The project, initiated by AEG Europe and designed by Platform Group, sought a consultative furniture supplier to bring the project to life, while meeting durability and fire regulations. Despite the complexity, Darren and those at Chaplins Trade embraced the challenge, collaborating seamlessly with numerous brands. Chaplins’ contribution to the project’s success was attributed to understanding of the project’s essence, access to diverse manufacturers within budget constraints, and effective project management skills. The Chaplins Trade department provides a one-stop solution to trade professionals, giving them access to an enviable roster of products, without the headaches that often come from sourcing from multiple suppliers. Engaging with External Support Could Create More Options - A SSUR ED H OTELS The UK hotel sector, despite resilience through the past 5 years, is now facing ongoing cost challenges amid a difficult winter low season. Government support, staycation demand, and asylum seeker contracts shielded many businesses, but new pressures are emerging.

performance and therefore assessing viability and structuring turnaround or closure plans.

Hotels remain vital to the UK economy, contributing over £90 billion annually and ranking among the top five employers nationwide. Yet smaller, privately owned groups and standalone assets with conventional bank loans are showing strain. Covenant breaches ignored during the pandemic are resurfacing, with many branded or franchised operations also vulnerable.

•

Immediate Expertise & Cost Efficiency. Engaging a third-party brings broader service expertise without the long-term commitments of payroll and contracts. Functions such as finance, bookkeeping, payroll, and HR can often be outsourced at around half the cost of maintaining an internal team, delivering both cash savings and efficiency.

•

Robust forecasting, reporting, and cash flow planning are essential during low demand seasons. Additionally outsourcing finance, payroll, and HR functions will bring fresh perspective and reduce emotional decision making at the reduced cost commitment.

•

Positioning for Acquisition & Exit. Appetite from new acquirers in the sector is evident. Preparing for a medium-term exit ensures value preservation. While this is not an overnight process, clear action against stated objectives and timelines reassures the incumbent funders, builds confidence, and creates valuable optionality.

Key Challenges • • •

Inflationary cost increases across supply lines & Rising payroll costs Volatile revenues and weak consumer spending, limiting pricing power. Hotels returning from government contracts, intensifying competition.

An exit via a sale is often prohibitive, “hope” value set against old trading performance and to clear funding mean that the transactional market remains lethargic

Get in touch for a no obligation meeting. Funders are keen to grow market share, but refinancing will remain tougher. Pandemic era patience is ending, and businesses with losses or underinvestment may struggle to achieve ongoing support.

Where Folklore Breathes Through the Walls: Inside Ardbeg House on Islay - A B ERG H OUSE In the village of Port Ellen on the Isle of Islay, where legends drift through the air like peat smoke, something extraordinary has emerged. A kaleidoscopic fantasia of local folklore and whisky culture, Ardbeg House is Russell Sage’s latest offering in Scottish hospitality design. Fromental, the renowned London-based atelier celebrated for its hand-painted wallcoverings, is delighted to highlight its central role in the design of Ardbeg House. Created in collaboration with Russell Sage Studio, the hotel’s 12 suites and bedrooms are rich in storytelling, folklore, and craftsmanship, with over 24 bespoke Fromental wallcoverings at their heart. A close friend and collaborator of Fromental’s, the company has long admired Russell’s ability to capture the essence of place in every detail. Previous joint projects for Glenmorangie House saw wildlifeinspired wallcoverings climb from walls to ceilings,

- 76 -

CASE STUDY

enveloping guests in the Highland landscape. For The Goring, an array of exotic animals offered tongue in cheek references to founding family members. This time, Russell challenged Fromental’s artists to capture something more elusive - the myths, landscape and elemental forces of Islay across 15 spaces. Russell Sage’s interiors are at once exuberant, eccentric and occasionally surreal. His vision for “luxury with a laugh” at Ardbeg House gave Fromental’s team licence to push boundaries, layering metaphor with sensory details that made the walls themselves essential to the story.

Highlights: Standout Suites The Feis Suite Taking its name from the Gaelic word for festival, the Feis suite features a bespoke rendition of the Ponti wallcovering in Appogia. Multicoloured panels of hand-painted Travertine - a carnivalesque medley of reds, blues, greens, and oranges - splice together in jubilant celebration. The en-suite features a fully custom design that evokes tempestuous Hebridean skies, achieved through digital manipulation of Fromental’s unique saltwood technique. Here, salt draws paint into evocative shapes and textures, printed on metallic silver voile.

The Rebel Suite Crashing around the walls of the Rebel Suite like storm-driven waves, this custom Fromental design originated from an archival tapestry. Replicated through hand-painting and dramatically scaled up, it was printed on gilded paper, creating an abstract interpretation of turbulent waters beating against Islay’s rugged shores.

The Monsters and Beasties Suites Paying tribute to the land and its legends, Russell drew inspiration from the skins of legendary creatures. The Monster Suite features an original mosaic design adapted as a textured effect on gilded paper, evoking crocodile skin - a playful wink to the island’s more fantastical lore. In the Wee Beastie Suite, referencing Robert Burns’ poem “To a Mouse,” a textured snakeskin pattern was scaled up dramatically by 200% and finished with a high-gloss treatment.

The Legend Suite The Legend Suite’s Rockpool wallcovering, initially hand-painted by co-founder, Lizzie Deshayes, pays tribute to the island’s intimate relationship with the sea and the ever-changing moods of coastal waters. Flowing into the bathroom, an inverted iteration of the Willow wallcovering design evokes swaying sea grass, immersing guests in an underwater reverie.

Where contemporary luxury hotels often whisper in hushed tones, Ardbeg House sings - of Russell’s daring vision, of patient craftsmanship and of Islay’s distinctive character. Salt crystals become storm clouds, mosaic fragments become monster skin, and tapestry archives become crashing waves. The result transports guests to another world entirely – one where folklore breathes through the walls and every surface holds a story. In embracing the riotous, the unexpected, the smile-inducing, Ardbeg House proves that luxury needn’t take itself too seriously to take your breath away. Photography credit: Sim Canetty Clarke

Rooted in the wild, this thoughtfully curated collection pairs nourishing plant-based formulas with five evocative fragrances, each designed to enhance daily rituals and elevate guest experiences.

Sweet Pea brings a delicate sweetness, with floral notes that recall sunlit gardens alive with jasmine and butterflies.

Made in the UK with a mindful touch, the vegan formulas are free from SLS, parabens and never tested on animals. Crafted with care and housed in artisan glass bottles, each fragrance in the collection is also available in a refill pouch - a collection as gentle on the planet as it is on your skin.

Each scent carries you across sun-warmed garden paths to salt-kissed shores, into moments of stillness and joy. Let your rituals be wild. Let your hands be beautifully cared for.

Discover five beautifully crafted scents, each one a journey through Cornwall’s natural landscapes.

Bring the wild in.

Bay & Rosemary is fresh and herbal, blending earthy pine with garden-picked herbs. Sea Salt captures the refreshing energy of the Cornish coast, freshly ground sea salt, a stiff onshore breeze and bursts of zesty brightness.

Efficient Labelling Allows You to Focus on Food, Not Faults - BROTH ER UK Brother UK’s trusted labelling solutions have long helped restaurants, hotels, and caterers take control of stock rotation — delivering consistency, compliance, and cost-savings through intuitive technology that’s quick to learn and makes a measurable impact.

pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS) — ensure allergens and ingredients are clearly identified, helping operators meet legal labelling obligations such as Natasha’s Law and protect customers with allergies. Simon Brennan, senior business manager for Specialist Print Solutions at Brother UK, said: “Kitchen teams work fast, under pressure and can’t afford mistakes – especially when it comes to food safety. That’s where our labelling solution comes in.

At the heart of this is Brother’s TD-2D range of professional label printers — compact, versatile, and designed to fit seamlessly into busy kitchen environments. Ideal for everything from crowded prep benches to mobile trolleys. Optional battery packs and carry handles for added flexibility, and selected models support linerless label printing, helping to reduce waste and eliminate non-recyclable backing paper. Built for real-world conditions, the TD-2D range performs reliably even when used with wet hands.

“By replacing handwritten day-dot stickers with a Brother TD-2D device, kitchens can print clear, consistent labels in seconds. It’s a faster, safer way to manage stock rotation, reduce food waste, and stay compliant with Food Standards Agency guidelines — ensuring food safety and quality even when shifts change or service peaks.

Combined with Brother’s partnerships with leading food independent software vendors (ISVs), the solution automates expiry tracking, reduces food waste, and eliminates handwritten errors — all while saving valuable time and improving consistency during peak service periods.

“And because our devices are compact, portable and support linerless printing, they’re built for real kitchen conditions – reducing clutter, cutting waste and keeping staff moving. It’s labelling that chefs can trust, helping them focus on food, not faults.”

In fast-paced hospitality settings with short shelf lives and shifting teams, reliable labelling is essential. Stock rotation solutions help maintain food safety, quality, and compliance, while other labelling solutions — including ingredient and allergen labelling for food

Smarter In-room Entertainment for Modern Hotels - H OT EL TV COM PAN Y Guest expectations have changed. Today, the inroom TV is no longer just a screen for live channels. It is a familiar comfort, a way to unwind after checkin, and increasingly a gateway to streaming, hotel information and brand experience. For hoteliers, that shift brings a simple challenge: how do you deliver a modern, reliable guest experience across every room, without creating extra work for your teams or ripping out existing infrastructure?

minimal disruption during installation, and a system that scales as the property grows. The core offering includes hospitality TVs from leading brands, paired with a managed TV platform that makes content simple to control. Branded welcome screens, guest information, promotional messaging and service highlights can be delivered to every room from one intuitive dashboard. For hotels, this creates a stronger first impression and a practical way to communicate, from breakfast times and spa availability to events, upgrades and seasonal offers.

Hotel TV Company is a UK supplier and systems integrator specialising in hospitality TVs, fully managed hotel TV systems and in-room entertainment. Established in 2009, the business has supported hotels nationwide with projects ranging from single boutique properties to multi-site estates. With more than 16 years in hospitality technology, the team has installed, sold or supported over 100,000 units and serviced more than 15,000 bedrooms, helping hotels modernise their in-room technology while keeping operations smooth day to day.

Beyond the guest-room TV, Hotel TV Company also provides casting solutions, digital signage, TV channel packages and distribution built for reliability. Casting gives guests the freedom to watch their own content on the big screen, while keeping privacy and security front of mind. Digital signage supports front-of-house communication, wayfinding and promotions, helping create a joined-up experience from reception to room. Just as important as the technology is the support behind it. Hotel TV Company designs, installs and supports solutions with long-term performance in mind, offering ongoing assistance to keep systems running smoothly and to help hotels get more value from their investment over time.

What sets a successful install apart is the planning. Every property is different, so Hotel TV Company starts with how the building actually works: the existing cabling, network capacity, distribution method and room layouts. From there, solutions are designed to suit the hotel’s brand, budget and infrastructure, whether the requirement is an IPbased environment, a more traditional RF set-up, or a hybrid approach that supports future upgrades. The goal is always the same: consistent performance,

It supports hotels, including Hilton Hotels, restaurants, bars, and golf clubs nationwide. CardsSafe is also ideal for golf courses, with golf equipment rental in the pro shop and food and bar tabs in the clubhouse.

The CardsSafe system was first installed at Silvermere in Surrey in 2015 to address customer hiring. Additional units were added later, following positive customer feedback. CardsSafe has helped Silvermere securely store their customers’ bank cards while hiring equipment or trialling their facilities. In addition, staff can act quickly if equipment needs fixing or replacing, as incidents can be reported as soon as the customer returns. Dani, manager at Silvermere Golf Course, explains, “CardsSafe has allowed us to safely retain customers’ cards while they trial equipment on the driving range. We can trust CardsSafe and efficiently replace any faulty or lost components.”

CardsSafe has had a long-standing relationship working with the London Golf Club since 2008. One of the UK’s most prestigious golf clubs, LGC boasts 36 holes of Jack Nicklaus-designed championship golf, an awardwinning clubhouse and hospitality facilities. Located in the south-east of England, set across 700 acres of idyllic Kent countryside, just 20 miles from London. Grant Rumbelow, the Food and Beverage Operations Manager, says, “CardsSafe has been a welcome addition to the London Golf Club. We utilise the system in our Golf Shop and Spike Bar and on-course with our Drinks Buggy. With CardsSafe, we can safely store customers’ cards whilst they enjoy their round of golf.”

CardsSafe is ideal for hospitality and leisure businesses. It is a proven and genuine deterrent against dine-and-dash, helps staff upsell, and increases trust between the venue and customers. This is why over 5000 brands utilise the system. The wireless CardsSafe units can sit discreetly behind the bar and work alongside existing POS. In addition, the system does not capture data, so it never breaches GDPR. The tab-keeping system is straightforward to use, so it requires minimal training and helps venues and customers to ensure secure tab-keeping.

The CardsSafe system is designed to securely retain customer credit, debit and ID cards while the cardholder runs a tab or hires a product or service. CardsSafe is also ideal in pro shops, clubhouse bars, and restaurants, allowing the safekeeping of ID or bank cards while customers enjoy the facilities. FIRE & SAFETY

Fire Aware Educators Lead the Way on Fire Safety Compliance - PAUL TUSTI N Experts in a diverse range of hospitality building sector skills in fire safety are becoming the Fire Aware Educators to help guide those in the supply chain trying to find their way around the wave of legislation and compliance currently being introduced.

those with a duty of care should understand this is more than a job, it is a vocation. “We believe there is enough legislation to ensure safety if they are understood and followed. We have specialists who can help guide anyone in the supply chain around some of this new legislation because it can be challenging given its complexity and scale.”

Key changes under the Building Safety Act involve data collection for all information at key stages of construction, while there have been amendments to Approved Document B and new regulations for Residential Evacuation Plans which come into effect in 2026.

The expanding industry body is leading the way by focusing on the moral responsibility of all those working in the fire safety supply chain including designers, developers, asset owners, managers and other stakeholders. It aims to change the culture of the built environment sector by introducing a moral code of conduct via a series of charters designed to influence how member companies behave in upholding their duty of care.

The growing fire safety industry body Fire Aware has a number of specialist members who also act as technical guidance experts for members who need help around the new challenges of legislation. Gavin Skelly, Fire Aware CEO, said members specifically provide training courses relating to fire safety and management relevant for designers, main contractors, domestic trades, material suppliers, building management, hotel and leisure, commercial and private landlords and local authorities.

Fire Aware is a recognised membership body serving the built environment and related sectors with a common aim to work and trade responsibly to all best practice standards in the interests of the safety of the general public.

He said: “At a time of increasing concern for the safety of the public who use our buildings and spaces, the fire safety industry is under increasing scrutiny and
