Maths: This half term, the topics we will be covering are fractions, area and perimeter and statistics. The children will be looking at how to work with fractions when we add, subtract, multiply or divide them and applying their knowledge to real life situations. They will also be exploring the measurements of 2D and 3D shapes and exploring ways to display statistics.
English: In the first two weeks of this half term, the children will be exploring a range of information texts and using these to write their own persuasive arguments. Following this, the children will be using ‘Super Sleuth’ to write a crime/detective fiction text and an explanation piece.
Science: This half term, we will be looking at the circulatory system. During this unit, the children will look at the circulatory system as a whole before taking a closer look at the roles of blood and the heart within the system. We will then look at oxygenated and de-oxygenated blood before finishing the unit with a heart dissection!
Year 6 - Spring 2/Half-term 4
Computing: This half term, we will be beginning a unit on blogging. During this unit children will learn all about what a blog is and look at examples of popular blogs. They will then create their own blog with a link to World War One.
RE: This half term, the children will be taking part in a Christianity unit with a focus on Jesus. The big question they will be answering at the end of this unit will be ‘Why do Christians believe Good Friday is ‘good’?
PE: This half term, we will be moving on to a net and wall unit of PE. The children will be exploring a variety of net and wall games and looking closely at the skills required to play these.
History: This half term sees the continuation of our World War One topic. Our big question for this unit of work will be ‘Was the First World War a great war?’. During this unit we will be looking at what started the war, what life was like for soldiers on the Western front and for the people back at home, advancements, how animals were used during the war and finish by looking at the end of the war and what happened in the months/years afterwards.
Music: This half term, children will be singing a rock style song. They will also be looking at musical notes and how to read these.
Year 6 - Spring 2/Half-term 4
Spanish: The children will be learning about music and opinions. They will be identifying music genres in Spanish and giving their opinions on these as well as extending their vocabulary to discuss things they like/don’t like.
PSHE: This half term, PSHE will be centred around keeping healthy. The children will explore different ways they can keep their bodies and minds healthy as they get older and also explore some of the substances that can damage their bodies and lead to unhealthy lives.
Art: This half term, Year Six will be exploring the wonderful work of Banksy! We will be using a mixture of painting and stencils to create our very own Banksy inspired art work.
