Nikakis Award

‘The Nikakis Benchmark Award, ’ named after the late Nick Nikakis, is the most prestigious award at the State Awards for Excellence, recognising an individual or organisation who by their sustained performance and commitment, serve as an inspiration to all in the industry.

The recipient of the 2025 Nikakis Benchmark Award Bill Perry, publican of The London Tavern Hotel, was chosen for his ability to adapt with the times while never losing the soul of his pub, for quietly mentoring others, giving back without fanfare, and consistently delivering excellence in both business and community

Beyond the recognition itself, Bill Perry’s achievement embodies everything we aim to celebrate: resilience, integrity, innovation, and community spirit. His leadership at The London Tavern exemplifies the kind of role model our sector needs. It gives us all cause to reflect on what it means to run a pub with heart and motivates us to lift one another up, just as Bill has done across his many years in this industry
