The Alpina Gstaad

Uncover the stories that reveal our unwavering commitment to excellence and creating exceptional experiences.

GM Nadine Friedli infuses her musical passion into our dynamic music programme of jazz, swing, and pop from an international line-up of talents. Pull back the curtain at the revamped pool area by MuzaLab and the new restaurants Monti and Martin Göschel, designed by Jakob Sprenger to feel authentically Alpine in a contemporary way.

The Swiss Alps also inspired our new playground, their chalet-style towers and locallysourced wood mirroring traditional architecture. Head of Engineering Hugo Egli takes you behind the scenes of the hotel’s most essential, and little-known, departments. The entire staff tirelessly works to ensure each guest has an unforgettable stay, as recognised by the esteemed awards that we are grateful to have received in 2025.

MEET

“THE IDEA WAS TO BALANCE TRADITION WITH A CLEAN CONTEMPORARY SENSIBILITY BY USING WARM WOOD TONES AND HANDCRAFTED DETAILS.”
JAKOB SPRENGER & ANTONIA CRESPI

ELEVATING THE ART OF ALPINE DESIGN

A cool design duo redefines chalet style at the new Monti and Martin Göschel restaurants, a delicious blend of cozy details, contemporary lines, and handcrafted design.

The antique wooden rafters feel as rooted in Alpine aesthetics as the surrounding trees. The plush mohair banquettes are as luxurious as the five-star setting in Gstaad. The customised woven carpet embodies the region’s traditional craftsmanship. At The Alpina Gstaad’s two new restaurants — the convivial Monti and Michelin-starred Martin Göschel – the hotel’s relaxed yet distinctly refined design is elevated to great heights. Intriguingly, the two restaurants are housed in one shared space, a unique challenge for the design team to create a dialogue between the different personalities of each place. Fittingly, there are two creative forces behind the project: architect Jakob Sprenger and designer Antonia Crespi of Casa Gstaad design studio. Their instant chemistry sparked a creative alchemy that can be seen, and felt, throughout the restaurants, which brim with emotional warmth, design prowess, and a harmonious flow.

Alpine authenticity without clichés

Sprenger drew inspiration from the “raw, rugged beauty of the Swiss Alps and the deep cultural roots of Gstaad. The idea was to balance tradition with a clean contemporary sensibility by using warm wood tones, natural textures, and handcrafted details.” For Monti, in particular, he wanted to create something that felt “authentically Alpine, but not in a cliché or old-fashioned way.” As the designer of Aesop boutiques, Sprenger is adept at creating discerning, wood-centric spaces that feel utterly approachable. While Sprenger brings his architectural strength into the spatial design and flow, Crespi contributes her expertise in artistic direction and

exceptional eye for detail, from the art on the walls to the heritage Puiforcat silverware. In the spirit of Alpine craftsmanship, everything is custom made. Sustainability is also an important ingredient, with pure wool carpets, regionally sourced wood, and furniture crafted within a 200-kilometre radius.

The peak of craftsmanship

With hand-carved wooden legs which resemble skis of yesteryear, the chairs are blanketed in a nubby ivory fabric reminiscent of powdery snow. Equally luxurious and cozy, the banquettes are draped in Maharam mohair, “the most stunning on the market,” confirms Crespi. Even the room dividers elevate the art of concealing. Made of woven bronze sheets redolent of basket weaving, they separate the spaces in an elegant, discreet way. So beautiful you want to touch them, you can almost see the artisans deftly bending the metal into these exquisite screens.

One of the most eye-catching features is the Tree of Life carpet, inspired by the Swiss decoupage papercutting technique, Scherenschnitt. Foxes, deer and other Gstaad fauna frolic among alpine herbs, twigs and flowers. Utterly unique, the menagerie unfurls across the entire floor, a textural allegory for

The Alpina Gstaad’s signature style of comfortable luxe. The showstopper? A four-metre-long buffet table crafted from layered bronze and fibreglass, with curves that echo the flowing rivers and mountain ridges of the Swiss Alps. Like the multifaceted space, this stunning centrepiece plays many roles, topped with tempting homemade pastries at breakfast to being the stage for the sommelier’s station and local cheeses by night.

A floor-to-ceiling window seamlessly connects Monti and Martin Göschel to The Alpina Terrace where the “incredible mountain views take centre stage,” says Sprenger. With the same understated elegance, diners relax on a curved banquette as they soak up the Alpine panoramas. The solid ivory quartzite bar has become an après-ski hotspot for all of Gstaad.

A natural creative chemistry

Two creatives can sometimes equate to too many cooks in the kitchen. The opposite was the case with Sprenger and Crespi’s collaboration. “It was an intuitive process. I shaped the space, set the rhythm and tone, and Antonia added emotional depth, layering in richness through details and storytelling,” shares Sprenger, continuing “she didn’t just decorate we curated an experience together.” Crespi adds, “We really complemented each other, it was an organic flow when choosing fabrics and details or revising plans.” Though they had never previously worked together, the connection was immediate, as natural as their surroundings of the Swiss Alps. They became huge fans of each other, enthusing: “he is the talent, an incredible architect,” and “she has a gift for connecting design with feelings.” They even became close friends along the way, “a bond that brought even more warmth and meaning to the project,” says Sprenger.

In harmony with all

The design duo was tasked with upholding The Alpina Gstaad’s clearly defined aesthetic: discreet refinement that is anything but flashy — and deeply rooted in place. They leaned into this vision by creating an intimate space that is grounded, yet elevated. The moment you enter, you can “feel the high quality of the materials, the textural details, and the emotional warmth,” says Sprenger.

The new restaurants are in harmony with the hotel’s existing layout, the flow from the lobby as organic as the Saane River that weaves through the village below. Like a fine wine at a gourmet dinner, it was essential that the interior design pairs well with the food. “Chef Martin Göschel’s cuisine is all about precision, seasonality, and letting ingredients shine. The design mirrors that,” explains Sprenger. “It doesn’t distract or overpower. Instead, it sets the stage, a warm beautiful backdrop that enhances flavour.” For example, at Monti, the convivial dining style – shared plates and tableside-carved meats –is elevated in its chic setting. At Martin Göschel, the chef’s eponymous 1-Michelin-Star restaurant, he sources regional ingredients, celebrating Switzerland’s culinary heritage while strengthening community. Crespi and Sprenger also support locals by hiring Gstaad-based ChaletBau Matti, the benchmark of Swiss chalet architecture, to supply antique wood sourced from the nearby hills. The icing on the cake? The new restaurants are also home to The Alpina Gstaad’s gourmet breakfast buffet. Giving guests more hours in the day to savour their delicious design.

A DISCREET REFINEMENT THAT IS ANYTHING BUT FLASHY.

MAKE A SPLASH

Inge Moore and Nathan Hutchins, Muza Lab’s famed design duo behind The Alpina Gstaad, share the backstory of their summer 2025 pool revamp.

Besides the pool, cream chaise loungers glow like winter snow. The matching parasols mirror the Alpine peaks in the distance. The stone and wood bar evokes the surrounding mountains and forests. “The pool is encompassed by one of the most stunning landscapes in the world,” says Inge and Nathan. “It was important to us that the design didn’t compete with that.”

Hence why they chose natural materials - wood, stone, and woven textures — that feel right at home for the pool terrace redesign. “The handcrafted loungers are teak, chosen for its warmth and durability, paired with pale ivory fabrics that keep the palette light,” they explain. “From textured marble and sculptural planters to leather-trimmed stools, every element adds tactility, comfort, and a connection to the landscape.”

“We wanted the pool to blend with the natural beauty of the gardens around it,” say the designers. “The greenery and the landscape guide the design, rather than overpower it,” like the new pool bar they crafted in green stone. Its wood lattice ceiling is etched with the hotel’s logo, adding the personal touch for which Muza Lab is known.

Inge and Nathan designed The Alpina Gstaad 15 years ago. “This project is very close to our hearts. Returning has been a special experience for us.” This long-standing collaboration speaks to, “the kind of relationships we always strive to build with projects, with owners, and the people who we work alongside.”

The new pool terrace echoes Muza Lab’s design approach for the hotel’s interiors. “It merges craftsmanship and intricate details, for a space that feels both modern and connected to its Alpine surroundings.” Experience it for yourself as you sip refreshing cocktails by the pool with views of the soaring summits.

MUSIC TO OUR EARS

Thoughtfully curated by The Alpina Gstaad’s GM Nadine Friedli, our music programme offers a melodious soundtrack to your stay.

“It was a warm summer evening, the sun was setting behind the mountains, and Bastian Baker stood with his guitar intimately close to the guests. There was no big stage, no barriers just music and emotion. You could feel the atmosphere change as soon as he started to play.”

Nadine Friedli’s words make you wish you had been at the concert. As you can tell from her enthusiasm, The Alpina Gstaad’s General Manager is a music fan. She’s the inspiration behind the hotel’s music programme, a dynamic mix of soulful jazz, upbeat swing, and acoustic music from an international line-up of talented musicians and bands. Throughout 2025, the exclusive guest performances have animated the Alpina Lounge and the panoramic terrace.

Music that moves you

“Music has always been an essential part of my life,” explains Nadine, who grew up listening to a variety of genres. “I particularly appreciate artists who combine authenticity with emotion, like Bastian Baker. For me, music is more than entertainment; it’s an experience that connects people and creates unforgettable moments.”

This was the inspiration behind the music program. “We want our guests to experience something that moves and surprises them whether it is a sunset performance on our terrace, or an intimate jazz night in the bar,” shares Nadine. The celebration of art and culture is a distinguishing feature of The Alpina Gstaad, so “the music is curated to enhance the atmosphere of the hotel.”

A global lineup

“Our guests come from all corners of the globe and bring diverse musical tastes,” explains Nadine. “That’s why an international line-up is essential but we always make sure to include a strong Swiss presence.” In addition to Bastian Baker, Luke Burr enchanted guests. DJ Antoine and Armando kicked off 2025 on an energetic note, with a house set that guests could not resist dancing to. In the summer, the U.S. artist and Grammy winner Will Gittens lit up the stage. “Known for his mix of pop, R&B, and reggae, the singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist captivated the audience with his soulful voice and dynamic stage presence,” recounts Nadine, smiling about the memorable performance.

Two jazz groups made The Alpina Gstaad swing: the dapper musicians from The Art Society brought vintage charm while the Swiss group Jamin Heaven seduced with their smooth saxophone and grooving stand-up bass. “An avid follower of the music scene, I personally choose the artists for their high quality and authenticity, reaching out directly to them,” explains Nadine. “Securing popular musicians like Bastian and Will can take patience and dedicationbut it’s worth the effort.”

The highlights of your stay

This blend of global names and local talent makes the music programme truly unique. Nadine shares, “We were overwhelmed by the wonderful feedback. Some said these moments were among the highlights of their stay. For me, that’s the essence of true luxury intimacy, emotion, and authenticity.”

PLAY TIME

Set in the storybook backdrop of the Swiss Alps, our brand-new playground is a joyful escape that invites kids of all ages to let their imagination run wild in the great outdoors.

Our youngest guests are invited to embark on a new adventure! Near the pool and restaurants, our brandnew playground is nestled in our verdant gardens, surrounded by the soaring mountains and fragrant pine trees that inspired its design. Children can test their mountaineering skills on climbing walls, whoosh down a curvy slide, soar high in the sky on swings, traverse the fun suspension bridge, and play Swiss explorers on the delightful towers. We delve into the details with Roger Kilchör, the co-owner of Gstaad-based Feller Gartenbau who built the innovative playground with authentic charm.

Inspired by the Alps

The playground took inspiration from The Alpina Gstaad’s design, which was heavily influenced by traditional Swiss architecture and the spectacular Alpine surroundings. Crafted with artisan wood in neutral tones, “the unique play tower beautifully blends into the breathtaking mountain landscape and the hotel’s towers,” says Roger Kilchör. The playground’s highlight is a suspension bridge, where kids can imagine great adventures - like traversing lofty mountain passes and sky-high

glaciers. Roger explains how the bridge inspired the playground’s slogan, “From Alpina to Peak,” which is “a nod to the thrilling ‘Peak to Peak’ bridge at the nearby Glacier 3000 resort that spans two summits.”

100% Swiss

The custom playground was entirely designed and built in Switzerland. To honour the spectacular forests that surround The Alpina Gstaad, “the playground is made of Swiss pine and larch wood, making it completely local and sustainable,” says Roger. Parents will appreciate the innovative surface that protects young adventurers when they fall. “In addition to being attractive and easy to care for, this new material, Granulat Premium, meets the highest technical, aesthetic, and ecological standards.” What’s more, the fully permeable material allows rainwater to seep back into the ground, reflecting The Alpina Gstaad’s commitment to environmentally friendly initiatives.

All-ages fun

Children of all ages will find endless fun on the playground. The play tower requires a higher level of skill, so it is best for kids over 3 years old. The swing is suitable for everyone — from toddlers to adults. Equally conscientious that parents and caregivers also have a good time, the playground has wooden benches and a parasol for relaxing while your little ones scamper about.

THE PLAYGROUND’S HIGHLIGHT IS A SUSPENSION BRIDGE, WHERE KIDS CAN IMAGINE GREAT ADVENTURES.

WITH HUGO EGLI
“THE ALPINA GSTAAD IS A GREAT EMPLOYER BECAUSE THEY MAKE ME FEEL AT HOME.”

INNER WORKINGS

Head of Engineering Hugo Egli takes us behind the scenes at one of the hotel’s most essential, and little-known, departments.

Can you describe your role as Head of the Engineering Department?

I am responsible for maintenance, repairs, planning, and security at The Alpina Gstaad. One of the most important aspects of my job is being able to efficiently interconnect these different areas to align with the hotel’s standards of excellence. I always say: as a technical director, you can do everything — but nothing perfectly.

How many people work with you and how do you collaborate with the other hotel departments?

We are a team of five employees who keep the hotel running all year round with a 24-hour on-call service. We work very closely with all departments, like with Food & Beverage to repair kitchen appliances or with Housekeeping who notify us if anything is out of order like scratched walls.

What do you like about working at The Alpina Gstaad?

You never know what to expect. Every day is different despite the routine. The Alpina Gstaad is a great employer because they make me feel at home.

Can you tell us about how you navigated a unique experience?

One guest requested a four-metre-high Christmas tree in his suite. The tree could only be flown in by helicopter. It felt unsustainable to book a flight just for this, so I asked a helicopter company if they had any test flights scheduled. They did, so the pilot was able to transport the tree directly to the guest’s balcony - and got paid for it.

Most of engineering’s role is behind the scenes. What makes it so key to the hotel’s functionality? Although the hotel’s technical side is not visible to our guests, that does not diminish its importance. It is essential that all the installations – like air conditioning, heating, and water filtration systems — operate flawlessly so that our guests enjoy a seamless stay.

You are organising workshops for this winter. Why would our guests want to join them?

Going behind the scenes of a 5-star hotel is quite interesting. Our workshops will give our guests the opportunity to gain insight into how The Alpina Gstaad operates by discovering our technology and innovations. The participants will surely marvel at how much space is needed in non-guest areas to operate such an esteemed hotel.

How does the Engineering Department support The Alpina Gstaad’s environmental initiatives?

We have been EarthCheck certified for many years. Sustainability in five-star hospitality is not easy, but we owe it to our environment to find the best possible solutions. For example, we have a large power generator in case there is a power outage. I am required to run it once a month, but this felt wasteful to me. So, I negotiated an agreement with our electricity provider to perform this test run. This is more efficient and eco-friendly, plus we receive compensation in return.

A YEAR OF

AWARDS

The hotel’s commitment to sustainability is also key, certified annually by EarthCheck for its environmental and social responsibility - and the first Swiss company to receive Gold Certification.

Bilanz Housekeeper of the Year

When leading Swiss business magazine, Bilanz, surveyed 200 hotel experts to determine which employees were the best in Switzerland, it was no surprise when Daniela Probost won 2025 Housekeeper of the Year. A true accolade since only 11 hotel employees were awarded. The head housekeeper at The Alpina Gstaad has worked here since its opening in 2012. In addition to knowing the hotel inside and out, she knows the regular guests as if they were family - and by name, of course. Daniela’s speciality is the details: a guest’s favourite flower, whether they prefer privacy or conversation, and other individual desires. With her watchful eye, she ensures the rooms and bathrooms are meticulously maintained.

A testament to Daniela’s passion and commitment? She founded the Alpina Housekeeping Academy, an inclusive initiative that teaches professional skills to those without formal hotel training, an important step to meet the growing demand for highly qualified hotel staff. Given The Alpina Gstaad’s dedication to our employees — the backbone of our world-class service — we are unbelievably proud of Daniela’s award. “This recognition is not only well-earned but an inspiration to us all,” Nadine Friedli says with pride. “Thank you, Daniela, for raising the standard.”

A collaborative new project by to.org, Regenerate Kakuma will give refugees a much-deserved place to heal, realise their potential, and achieve their dreams.

In northern Kenya, Rita “De Yogi” Brown leads heartening yoga and meditation sessions while Abubakar Rugamba teaches the transformative power of weightlifting. The setting is unexpected, one of the world’s largest refugee settlements that sprawls over 50 square kilometres (a third of the size of Washington, D.C.) Seeing the permanent smiles that light up Rita and Abubakar’s faces, you would never fathom the immense challenges they have endured as refugees here. Kakuma — which stems from the Swahili word for “nowhere” — feels like a city, teeming with 285,000 refugees displaced by war, climate-related conflict, and economic crises. Up to 47% of its inhabitants suffer from trauma and PTSD. A visionary collaboration is striving to help them heal and thrive.

The philanthropic Regenerate Kakuma project will provide a wellness and fitness facility that is rooted in Regenerative Wellness, a holistic approach that both heals and aids people in realising their potential. “We believe in creating spaces and opportunities to improve mental and physical well-being, enabling trauma reduction, self-development, and social cohesion,” explains Nachson Mimran, co-founder of The Alpina Gstaad and to.org — the organisation that created the Regenerate Kakuma Collective to realise the project. “To.org is built around the fundamental belief, that in order to heal the world, we must take a creative approach and incubate the relationships and talent that make the world a better place.” What sparked the idea for Regenerate Kakuma?

Nachson has always been “struck by how refugee camps have so little permanent infrastructure despite existing for decades. If you provide something

practical and inspiring, it enables others to build their existing talent.” In December 2023, to.org launched the Bidi Bidi Performing Arts Centre in the Ugandan refugee settlement of the same name. After witnessing the positive impact of this vibrant hub, they wanted to build on the idea. Why a wellness and fitness facility? Kakuma has been a sports incubator, with numerous athletes competing at prominent international sports events including the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This athletic prowess fuelled the project’s concept. The spark was Rita and Abubakar.

“We are more than our refugee status”

The remarkable pair founded Easy FitGang, a community-based organisation that promotes mental well-being through physical fitness. “Movement is medicine,” says Rita, with Abubakar

adding, “Working out helped me heal from trauma and PTSD.” Part of to.org’s global network of Creative Activists, Rita and Abubakar are beacons of resilience, overcoming the hardships of their own journeys to galvanize the 2000 young people who participate in activities that include yoga, hiking, aerobics, and sports competitions.

“One of my biggest inspirations is to show the world that I am more than my refugee status,” shares Rita. “This should not lead to limited thinking. When I am looked down on because of this, I am even more determined to prove others wrong.”

Rita’s perseverance has been her strong suit since childhood, arriving in Kakuma with her twin sister at age 7, both orphaned by war. Bolstered by a strong educational background — degrees in social work and business administration — she cultivated her yoga expertise at the Africa Yoga Project, a nonprofit that makes yoga and well-being accessible to all.

A proud single mother, Rita is beloved as a mentor and teacher. Her philosophy centres on “every experience, whether positive or challenging, can be harnessed to inspire growth.” Rita’s own path to self-acceptance makes her an inspiring role model to others. “With support and belief in oneself, anyone can overcome adversity and create a new path forward. I encourage people to identify their strengths rather than dwell on their struggle.”

A child soldier in Burundi at just 8 years old, Abubakar was a teenager when he arrived in Kakuma with his family. “I turned to my childhood passion, football, to overcome the trauma,” he explains.

“Physical activity helped me heal. I was sure it could work for others.” Many of the young participants at Easy FitGang suffer from depression and trauma.

“Our activities not only support and improve mental health - they also help promote a peaceful existence in our community of over 19 nationalities,” says Abubakar. Basketball tournaments reinforce these bonds and the power of teamwork. Abubakar is more than his impressive physique. Educated in community development and social work

— and currently working on a degree in sustainable development — the bright twenty-eight-year-old contributes to and co-authors reports with prominent stakeholders like Amnesty International and Oxford University. Abubakar is also all heart, a loving caregiver to his family and an indefatigable cheerleader to all he encounters at Easy FitGang, like one Congolese dancer who felt such a sense of belonging he became one of their trainers.

The power of collaboration

For a long time, Rita, Abubakar, and Easy FitGang’s other partner, Tabitha, have longed for better infrastructure. “Imagine the progress and healing we could create with better facilities!” Abubakar enthuses. The Kakuma Olympians Perina Nakang and Cindy Ngamba have given them hope to pursue their dreams regardless of the challenges. After members of to.org joined yoga and meditation classes, “Nachson asked us how he could help our community. We knew we had found the perfect partner to collaborate on expanding our project,” explains Rita. In addition to to.org, Rita, and Abubakar, the Kakuma Regenerate Collective is comprised of architects, designers, other Creative Activists, and Kakuma community leaders. Regenerative Kakuma will have a well-equipped gym and outdoor sports facilities, where teamwork, stress management,

and community engagement will be instilled alongside athletics. The Meditation Hall and serene courtyards will provide nurturing spaces for reflection and mindfulness. Since well-being is intrinsically linked to one’s surrounding environment, the project will include an agroforestry system and market gardens that provide fresh produce and teach agricultural skills and traditions. In line with the project’s vision to extend beyond the physical structure, these agricultural elements will foster connection with the community and its food sources. “There are four fundamental pillars that every thriving society needs: places where we can Think, Play, Create, and Regenerate,” explains Nachson. This philosophy, which drives to.org, is at the crux of Regenerate Kakuma. One space to support thousands to heal, gather, and thrive, contributing to a sustainable future. “We would like to invite the world to stand and support us in our incredible journey,” says Abubakar.

TRANSFORMATION

Founded by world-renowned yoga teacher, Yogeswari, AZAHAR Foundation cultivates transformation and healing in post-conflict communities through education in mind-body practices

Do you believe in the transformative potential of yoga beyond the mat? This is the seed from which the AZAHAR Foundation blossomed. Working in post-conflict communities across the globe, the organization’s mission is to promote a culture of peace through disciplines that are as diverse as the people they work with — including yoga, the arts, non-violent communication, women’s empowerment and trauma healing. With the world currently being torn apart by injustices, AZAHAR’s mission to galvanise communities is more essential than ever. AZAHAR’s initiatives have engendered favourable outcomes. In Rwanda, AZAHAR has offered traumainformed yoga for more than 200 elderly genocide survivors, restoring dignity and social connection. In Cambodia, the yoga-teacher-training program has had such a positive impact that a 75-hour foundational training will be offered in March 2026. AZAHAR works with young people and women from post-conflict and underserved communities particularly in Cambodia, Rwanda, and more recently, Ukraine. Most of the participants are orphans, survivors of violence, or living in conditions of economic hardship. “We aim to uncover hidden talents and equip them with tools for healing, leadership, and sustainable livelihoods,” explains

founder Yogeswari. Thanks to her internationally acclaimed teachings, the Senior Jivamukti Yoga teacher has been able to build a global network of collaborators, including The Alpina Gstaad.

Sowing the seeds for impact

Yogeswari’s lifelong journey has woven through spirituality, peacebuilding, and the arts, the fabric of the AZAHAR Foundation. Growing up in Switzerland in a multilingual family that travelled the world, Yogeswari developed a deep respect for different cultures. A trip to Israel during the Arab Israeli War in 1973 sparked her lifelong commitment to peace and understanding. After diving into multicultural dance traditions in New York while leading a performance company, Yogeswari gained a clear insight during a vision quest in the Native American tradition: “My life’s work would centre on spirituality and the arts, especially in service of women and marginalised communities.” She nourished her mission by training in Jivamukti Yoga. Yogeswari was deeply influenced by the Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, who urged individuals to become “antidotes to violence.” Meeting Israeli and Palestinian youth at his Plum Village retreat in France crystallised her calling.

“I wanted to bring healing to communities torn apart by conflict.” She taught yoga to former guerrilla soldiers in Colombia, restoring their sense of purpose to better reintegrate into society. This first mission laid the groundwork for AZAHAR.

Transformation without borders

The foundation’s yoga and arts programmes are more than vocational training — they are a means of breaking cycles of trauma and poverty and promoting cross-cultural exchange. Supporting personal transformation and economic empowerment helps build the foundations for peaceful, thriving communities. With AZAHAR’s methodology, meaningful change begins at the local level, through steady, long-term, relationship-driven engagement. In Cambodia, AZAHAR’s programmes provide new paths for young people who “lack exposure to career options and don’t recognize their own potential,” shares Yogeswari. The Peace Camp retreat introduces youth to disciplines like yoga and non-violent communication to spark self-inquiry, creativity, and group cohesion. At the Center for Peace, Yoga & Arts, newly trained teachers develop the confidence to earn a living, an essential step in “closing the loop between training and sustainable employment.” Following the programmes’ success in Cambodia, AZAHAR now partners with local NGOs in Rwanda

to bring yoga to genocide survivors, orphaned adolescents, and women rebuilding their lives. Their Community Wellness Hub in Kigali offers free classes to the public — over 300 people benefitted from donation-based classes in 2024. Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, AZAHAR supported two Ukrainian students in their Jivamukti Yoga teacher training. They now host free trauma-informed teacher training retreats for their compatriots who work with war-torn communities.

When collaboration sparks positive change

Since 2021, The Alpina Gstaad has been proud to partner with AZAHAR. In addition to hosting AZAHAR’s annual fundraising workshop, the hotel is home to a Jivamukti Yoga workshop each winter that is paired with meaningful storytelling about AZAHAR’s impact. This unique opportunity “allows guests to connect deeply to themselves and with a cause that supports peace and transformation in post-conflict communities,” enthuses Yogeswari. This partnership is strengthened by The Alpina Gstaad and AZAHAR’s shared commitment to wellness, social impact, and conscious living.

"THE AZAHAR'S IMPACT ALLOWS GUESTS TO CONNECT DEEPLY TO THEMSELVES."

GIVEN THE INCREASING CONFLICT AND DISPLACEMENT AROUND THE WORLD, THE FOUNDATION’S TOOLS ARE ESSENTIAL.

Nastasia Bach, a beloved Jivamukti Yoga teacher who is partly based in Switzerland, is the bridge between the two entities. In line with AZAHAR’s mission, her studies on the Cambodian genocide inspired her to a life to impact the world with healing.

Essential tools for a just society

Since AZAHAR began in 2008, its work has become more aligned than ever with evolving societal views. Yogeswari shares how “trauma-informed yoga has moved from the margins into mainstream recognition. Evidence shows its positive impacts on the nervous system, brain function and mental health.” Given the increasing conflict and displacement around the world, the foundation’s tools are not just relevant, but essential. Yogeswari’s vision for a just society begins with inner transformation. Without healing from the inside out, “we will continue to repeat cycles of violence, exploitation, and division,” she stresses. Yoga and meditation have the power to interrupt these patterns and shed light on the “unconscious impulses of anger, jealousy, greed, and fear that fuel conflict.”

Believing that these disciplines are vital tools for peace, Yogeswari envisions a world where “people recognise their shared humanity, where differences are honoured rather than feared.”

Joining the movement for a better future

In addition to Yogeswari, AZAHAR’s efforts are carried out by Executive Director Sundas Waheed and a core team of yoga teachers. Boards of Directors in the United States, Switzerland, and Cambodia provide indispensable support for their programmes, which continue to flourish in their partner countries.

This year, AZAHAR will host its first high-impact fundraising retreat in Morocco, La Palmeraie Awakening, to support its vocational programmes and peacebuilding efforts worldwide. The foundation is also expanding their online presence to connect their global community and reach those who cannot join in person. All are welcome to join AZAHAR’s incredible efforts: donors, yoga practitioners, educators, organizations… anyone who believes in the power of healing and peacebuilding. For in person participation, join an event, volunteer, or collaborate collectively (for example, with your yoga studio or NGO.)

No matter where you are, you can donate to fund training and outreach. Word of mouth is also a powerful tool, whether sharing our story using social media or hosting a fundraiser as The Alpina Gstaad is proud to do.

THE TASTES OF SUMMER

Chef Martin Göschel lit up the panoramic terrace with festive barbecues and pizza parties all summer long.

Summer is the prime season for al fresco dining. When summer hits, the sun-kissed days and balmy evenings are ideal for gathering outdoors. This time of year is a holiday for many, so conviviality is an essential ingredient, amplified by the fresh air after being cooped up indoors. To make the most of summer, The Alpina Gstaad offered two festive get-togethers from June to September in 2025.

On Friday and Saturday nights, chefs handcrafted pizzas in a pizza truck on the terrace. Bathed in the beautiful light of golden hour, guests tucked into airy Neapolitan and crisp Roman-style pizzas. Every Sunday afternoon, the outdoor terrace lit up with churrasco-style barbecues. People savoured a generous selection of grilled delights and rustic sides. It was hard to resist the tantalising scent of wood-fired pizzas and grilled meats - as well as the breathtaking backdrop of Gstaad’s mountain view.

Fed by travels and childhood memories

“I have always loved the idea of bringing people together around simple but deeply satisfying food,” says Chef Martin Göschel, Executive Chef at The Alpina Gstaad. “Pizza and grilled meats are universal in that sense — they spark joy, community, and a relaxed atmosphere.” The German chef’s first

memory of pizza goes back to childhood. “Sharing them at a small family-owned pizzeria was a real treat. As for churrasco, I associate it with my travels in South America, where I experienced the conviviality of long barbecues and generous sharing plates. Both have a certain magic for bringing people closer.”

Irresistible menus

The pizza parties served a mix of classic and creative toppings: a traditional favourite, Margherita, with buffalo mozzarella; a spicy salami; and a vegetarian pizza with seasonal vegetables. Guests got an education in regional pizza styles with each bite. They could choose from thinner, crispier Roman pizza or Neapolitan pizza. The latter is “soft and has a chewy crust since it is baked at very high heat for just 90 seconds,” says Chef Göschel.

“We baked the pizzas in a special wood-fired oven, which gave us the perfect texture - airy, lightly charred, and flavourful.” To further indulge the guests, as is The Alpina Gstaad way, every pizza was made to order so they could enjoy them piping hot from the oven. “We had an Italian pizzaiolo on our team to infuse authenticity and savoir-faire into the soirée.”

The grill took centre stage at the churrasco lunches. Marinated in various herbs and spices, succulent beef, lamb, pork ribs, and chicken tickled the guests

“WE BAKED THE PIZZAS IN A SPECIAL WOODFIRED OVEN, WHICH GAVE US THE PERFECT TEXTURE.”

taste buds. Classic sides included a buffet of corn on the cob, roasted potatoes, grilled vegetables, fresh tomato salad and chimichurri, the Argentinian parsley and garlic sauce that gives grilled food zing. “The idea was to keep the menu authentic yet with our Alpina touch,” explains Chef Göschel. In addition to classic charcoal, he used wood from local beech, which gives a steady heat and a subtle smoky flavour that beautifully enhances the meat.

Locavore and more

Chef Göschel is fiercely committed to sourcing local ingredients. Since his arrival at The Alpina Gstaad in 2017, he has fostered close relationships with farmers, cheesemakers, ranchers, and more to celebrate Swiss culinary heritage. These connections also nourish the local supply chain, minimising transport to support the sustainability efforts that the hotel champions.

For these summer events, Chef Göschel collaborated with farmers who raise lamb and Simmental heritage beef. The chicken came from the Swiss regions of Gruyère and Appenzell. Fresh vegetables were sourced from Daniel von Siebenthal’s farm just down the valley — picked just an hour before they were delivered! For the pizza, the chef used buffalo mozzarella and San Marzano tomatoes from Italy “because for pizza, they are unmatched.”

Connecting to Swiss culinary heritage and customs

When we ask the chef if grilled meats are traditional in the Alps, he responds with a resounding “Absolutely!” He explains how grilling has a long tradition, particularly in the summer on the Alpine pastures. “Farmers grill sausages or cuts of meat directly over the fire.” While churrasco is a South American style, “the spirit of communal grilling exists in Swiss culture as well. It was really beautiful to bring these traditions together.”

As for pizza, it is beloved across Switzerland, particularly since the south of the country is bordered by Italy. Chef Göschel explains how pizza is part of everyday life here. “Every family has a favourite pizzeria, and children grow up with it. For us, it was incredibly important to make it authentic but also to highlight local products.”

The excellence of fine dining infused in casual fare

One of the key highlights of The Alpina Gstaad is its culinary excellence. The chef defines this as “respecting the ingredients, implementing precision techniques, and creating a great experience for the guest.” This is not just limited to fine dining at

the hotel. “Even in a casual setting, we made sure to use the best ingredients, to grill and bake with care, and to have a service that was both warm and professional. We infused these evenings with the same passion and standards we bring to our restaurant Martin Göschel, in a more relaxed and festive style.”

Five-star feedback

The chef’s favourite part of the pizza nights and churrasco lunches was “seeing how relaxed and happy everyone was, friends sharing plates of grilled meat, and guests staying longer than they had planned to soak up the convivial atmosphere.” “The feedback was fantastic,” he smiles. “Many guests told us it felt like being on holiday somewhere in the Mediterranean, right here in the Alps.”

Given the events’ success, The Alpina Gstaad is hoping to bring them back in 2026. “We are already discussing how to make them even better next summer,” says the ever-dedicated chef. It is too early to confirm the exact dates. Check social media or the hotel’s website for updates.

“IT FEELS LIKE BEING ON HOLIDAY SOMEWHERE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN, RIGHT HERE IN THE ALPS.”

MILAN MEETS GSTAAD

At our exclusive summer pop-up with Sant Ambroeus, the legendary hotspot curated a delicious dialogue between the Swiss Alps and Italy’s fashion capital.

Guests savour vitello tonnato, twirl tagliatelle in fresh tomato sauce, and raise their glasses with classic Italian cocktails. The scene is straight out of Italy. Yet, if you zoom out, the chalet-style antique wooden rafters in the dining room’s ceiling are pure Switzerland.

This snapshot comes from the 2025 Sant Ambroeus pop-up at The Alpina Gstaad. The hotel was delighted to welcome the Milanese legend for its very first residence in Switzerland from 25th July to 17th August. Renowned for its timeless elegance and fantastic cuisine, Sant Ambroeus took guests on a gastronomic voyage through Italian cuisine beneath the stunning backdrop of the Swiss Alps.

“Gstaad’s Alpine luxury and natural splendour inspired us to embrace a sense of refinement that feels both elevated and effortless,” shares Cosimo Gheradini, the Director of Operations at Sant Ambroeus. “The Swiss tradition of excellence in hospitality — discreet, precise, and warm — influenced how we shaped this experience, blending Sant Ambroeus’ Italian elegance with the serene beauty of the mountains.”

Sant Ambroeus has been the epitome of Milanese hospitality for 90 years. Just as fine wine improves with age, the café has grown into a globally beloved institution. In 1936, two pastry chefs opened Sant Ambroeus across from the illustrious opera house, Teatro La Scala. Named for the patron saint of Milan, the duo’s pasticceria and confetteria was an instant hit among the Milanese cognoscenti. The cafe’s loyal following planted the seed for Sant Ambroeus’ expansion in the second half of the 20th century, first at home then across the Atlantic to New York City and other cities.

Iacopo Falai, Culinary Director SA Hospitality Group
“THE SWISS TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE IN HOSPITALITY

INFLUENCED

HOW WE SHAPED THIS EXPERIENCE.”

“Unlike our permanent locations in New York, Aspen, or Palm Beach, the Gstaad residency was conceived as a dialogue with Switzerland itself," recounts Cosimo. “It wasn’t about transplanting Sant Ambroeus, but about tailoring it to Alpine life — intimate, reflective of nature, and infused with the Swiss sense of precision and elegance.” Cosimo also points out that since many of Sant Ambroeus' American clients come to Gstaad for the summer, they wanted to “create a familiar sense of home for them, wherever they are. The result was a one-of-a-kind experience that could only have existed in Gstaad.”

The residency unfolded at The Alpina Gstaad’s restaurants Monti and Martin Göschel. Their modern, cosy wood tones added Alpine charm to the Sant Ambroeus aesthetic. “We brought our own touches so that guests felt like they were stepping into one of our cafes,” says Cosimo. The tables were adorned with their Ginori plates, flower vases, in-house olive oil, menus in their trademark pink, and even a hostess desk with their logo.

“More than the décor, what truly defined the experience was our hospitality: the warmth of our service and the comforting culinary approach that has always been at the heart of Sant Ambroeus,” shares Cosimo.

A TOAST TO SWISS TERROIR

Julien Dutruy, the co-owner of Les Frères Dutruy, shares the story behind the exclusive Alpina Wine cuvée and his award-winning, 108-year-old winery.

When a family has been part of the wine industry since 1917, it might be hard for the next generation not to follow suit. Those roots run deep, especially when your great-grandfather opened the first grapevine nursery in Switzerland. “There is a virus in my family,” smiles Julien Dutruy, who co-owns Les Frères Dutruy winery with his brother, Christian. Growing up, work and family were intertwined, with family meals filled with conversations ranging from assemblages to weather reports. When the brothers began working at 15, their father, Jean-Jacques, sent them to the famed terraced vineyards of Lavaux. They toiled 50 hours a week for a hands-on education. “It was hard… almost like military service,” shares Julien. Eager to gain experience worldwide, Christian worked in California and South Africa while Julien went to Bordeaux, Bourgogne, and New Zealand. “I was immersed in Old World oenology and my brother in the free spirit of the New World,” says Julien.

Turning over a new leaf

In 2005, Christian and Julien took over the family business at the ripe young age of 25. “Our parents prepared the land for us so that we could flourish.”

The ambitious brothers wanted to infuse their own personality into the winery. Changing the name to Les Frères Dutruy, they dramatically lowered the production output to achieve the quality needed to craft high-end wines. After being certified organic, they also began using biodynamic principles to honour their vines and their land. These efforts have been recognised throughout the industry, including winning Swiss Winery of the Year in 2017 — and four more times in the past decade — at the Gala des Vins Suisses. The brothers also revitalised the grapevine nursery business, which Christian brilliantly helms, while Julien manages the winemaking, viniculture, and sales. As Switzerland’s second-largest nursery, they boast grafts from over 150 grape varieties. Consequently, the brothers are often sought out by Swiss winemakers for advice on what to plant, enriching encounters for everyone’s savoir-faire. Collaboration is a central ingredient to Les Frères Dutruy, making them the perfect partner for Alpina Wine - the signature cuvée of The Alpina Gstaad.

An unparalleled pairing

In 2015, Eric Favre, The Alpina Gstaad’s former General Manager, met Julien at a hotel soirée. A fan of Les Frères Dutruy wine, Favre wanted to create a unique vintage that exemplified the hotel’s made-to-measure ethos that is centred on giving clients exceptional experiences. Julien was honoured

Christian and Julien Dutruy.
“ALPINA WINE IS ONE OF THE BEST CUVÉES WE’VE EVER MADE.”

AFTER BEING CERTIFIED ORGANIC, THEY ALSO BEGAN USING BIODYNAMIC PRINCIPLES TO HONOUR THEIR VINES AND THEIR LAND.

to be approached, a true compliment coming from such a distinguished hotel. “The Alpina Gstaad gives you the privileged feeling of being in a very intimate place,” he said, continuing how “the staff instantly made him feel at home” as they do with every client. Alpina Wine is crafted in collaboration. Since the first sommelier, Pierfranco Lavra, members of The Alpina Gstaad’s wine team have come to the Les Frères Dutruy winery to blend the unique cuvées together, a beautiful interaction infused with the spirit of sharing. Bottled in August 2025, the 2024 vintage will be available in 2026. You can savour the 2023 cuvée at The Alpina Gstaad’s restaurants or bring a bottle home to prolong the pleasure of your stay — and share a privileged taste of Swiss terroir with your loved ones.

Tasting Swiss terroir

Instead of using Switzerland’s most abundant grape, Chasselas, the white 2023 Alpina Wine is an exclusive assemblage of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. The floral elegance of the former marries with the exotic fruit of the latter to create a gastronomic wine that is equally lovely for an apéritif or a gourmet meal. For the red Alpina Wine, The Alpina Gstaad sommeliers desired a more full-bodied wine than the Gamays for which the brothers are known. The blend of Gamaret, a Swiss variety with spicy, Syrah-like notes, Pinot Noir, and Merlot is wonderfully supple, well-balanced, and generous, an ideal pairing with meats after a day on the slopes. Both terroir-driven wines are crafted from grapes sourced from vineyards in La Côte, between the Jura Mountains and Lake Geneva - the largest lake in Europe. The climate around Lake Geneva is ideal for growing grapes, with a wide variety of terroirs thanks to the formation of the Rhône glacier 10,000 years ago. Benefiting from a microclimate and a specific sandstone, molasse, Julien tells us how their “small grape bunches are aromatic and concentrated,” resulting

in their refined wines. Les Frères Dutruy also operate vineyards in limestone-rich Lavaux, whose UNESCO-designated terraced vineyards date back to Benedictine monks in the 11th century.

The luxury of local

“Alpina Wine is one of the best cuvées we’ve ever made,” shares Julien, proud to give The Alpina Gstaad’s international clientele a window into Switzerland’s winemaking prowess. Switzerland has 15,000 hectares of grapevines, the same as Alsace. “Only two percent of Swiss wine is exported, with the best bottles often staying within our borders,” he explains. You can order Burgundies or Barolos at any fine-dining establishment. Drinking Swiss wine is special, its flavours and aromas the perfect pairing to the country’s terroir-driven gastronomy. And sipping Alpina Wine is as rare an indulgence as staying at The Alpina Gstaad. “Locally made products are true luxury,” says Julien, a philosophy that the hotel also embraces. Let’s drink to that.

Swiss Wine Valais

A photographic journey through the lens of Gérard-Philippe Mabillard.

In the world of photography, there are projects that transcend mere visuals, capturing the essence of shared moments and human connection. Gérard-Philippe Mabillard’s photography book, “The Stars’ Share”, is one such profound work. Published by teNeues, this book, which features 162 stunning black-and-white portraits of luminaries from cinema, music, sports, and gastronomy, amongst others, is much more than an artistic endeavour. It stands as a testament to friendship, shared moments, and the power of photography as a vehicle for meaningful storytelling, with all profits from the book donated to support a greater cause.

At the heart of this project lies the concept of the wine glass — a symbol of unity and camaraderie. Each photograph is tied to a moment in which the subjects hold a glass, symbolising the connections made over time, much like the cherished memories Mabillard recalls from his childhood. As he reflects on evenings spent with his family, sipping wine under a canopy of stars, this simple yet profound image became the cornerstone of his project, infusing each photograph with layers of nostalgia, intimacy, and shared humanity.

“As a boy, I’d watch my father and grandfather raise their glasses with friends, a symbol of joy and friendship as they celebrated together with a bottle of Petite Arvine or Humagne Rouge,” Mabillard recalls. “Eyes would meet over raised glasses under

the infinite glow of the stars. There were bursts of laughter and stories shared — so many sparks of life, floating on the warm currents of a summer’s eve.”

These moments of joy and unity found their way into Mabillard’s photographic work, and as he explains, “The Stars’ Share is an echo of those scenes I remember so vividly, like a fragrance from the ephemeral years of the past.” Each portrait he captures is imbued with this sense of fleeting yet eternal moments, whether it’s cinema stars like actors Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem, a reputed singer-songwriter like Beth Ditto, or a sports legend like ski racer Franz Klammer. These images aren’t simply posed — they are lived moments, encounters frozen in time, and shared through the lens of an artist who treasures connection above all.

Beyond its artistic scope, "The Stars' Share" transcends the realm of photography, with all profits donated to the Fondation Moi pour Toit, a Swiss charity supporting disadvantaged children in Pereira, Colombia. Founded in 1987, the foundation has provided shelter, education, and care to over 10,000 children.

Through this partnership, Mabillard highlights how art can drive real-world change, focusing attention on the futures being shaped by the foundation’s efforts.

Ultimately, "The Stars’ Share" is more than a photography book. It is a celebration of life, an ode to shared moments, and a visual tribute to those fleeting instants of joy and connection that leave a lasting impression. Through his lens, Gérard-Philippe Mabillard invites us to reflect on the beauty of human interaction, reminding us that, just as the stars shine for everyone, so too do these moments of connection belong to us all.

72 Living La Dolce Vita

LA DOLCE VITA

A hit event of the summer, the Bvlgari aperitivo infused the Swiss Alps with Roman flair at convivial soirées that brimmed with laid-back elegance.

Dressed in fashionable frocks accessorised with exquisite bracelets and high-end handbags, partygoers clinked glasses of Campari cocktails. They nibbled on bruschetta, prosciutto, and other Italian delights to the tune of intimate musicians. The scene was straight out of an Italian fashion magazine. Yet the chalet-dotted mountains were pure Switzerland.

From 21st July to 24th August, The Alpina Gstaad was lavished with the La Dolce Vita lifestyle at a beautifully curated aperitivo by Bvlgari. Each Thursday evening at The Alpina Lounge and Terrace, the soirées welcomed clients of the hotel and the luxury Italian brand to celebrate summer together in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere — a true reflection of Bvlgari and The Alpina Gstaad’s spirit.

The perfect pairing

The aperitivo was born from Bvlgari’s desire to bring their La Dolce Vita lifestyle to the Swiss Alps. “Gstaad, with its unique balance of sophistication, exclusivity and understated elegance, offered the perfect setting,” explains Valerie Kaplan, Senior Marketing & Communication Manager of Bvlgari Switzerland.

“GSTAAD,

WITH ITS UNIQUE BALANCE OF SOPHISTICATION, EXCLUSIVITY AND UNDERSTATED ELEGANCE, OFFERED THE PERFECT SETTING.”

“WE CONSIDERED VALUES THAT TRULY RESONATE WITH OUR MAISON: ELEGANCE, AUTHENTICITY, AND DISCREET LUXURY.”

“Partnering with The Alpina Gstaad, we created a series of refined aperitivo evenings that combined Italian conviviality with the serene beauty of the Alps.”

To bring the event to life, Bvlgari produced short teaser videos with local talents from the Bvlgari Swiss Alliance — a selective collective of talented, authentic, and influential individuals that embody the Maison’s spirit in Switzerland. “This added a personal touch, a way to connect guests to Bvlgari in a lively and engaging way,” says Valerie, reflecting Bvlgari's desire to create memorable moments for its exclusive clients — and those of The Alpina Gstaad.

Artistic flair

Beloved by luxury fashion houses and private clients, the brilliant fashion illustrator Anne Blachut added her signature style to the soirée. Live sketching with coloured pencils, she deftly created drawings for guests, including portraits, stylish outfits, and Bvlgari's emblematic jewellery and accessories like the iconic Serpenti bracelet. Guests not only got the chance to witness creativity up close, they left with magnificent mementos to celebrate the evening. Inspired by the straw hats donned in the sun-kissed Italian Riviera, the Bvlgari Aperitivo offered guests their own handembroidered hat. Guests could choose their own inspiration, such as their name or “La Dolce Vita.”

Music to their ears

Guests were serenaded by soulful live music, providing a sophisticated soundtrack for their listening pleasure. The swing jazz duo, Emilia Rose Duet, enchanted the crowd with their blend of Italian hits and snazzy interpretations of pop songs.

Fittingly from the Rhône-Alps region that borders Switzerland and Italy, the equally gorgeous and talented Emillie Collomb and Melanie Lianes were the perfect ambassadors for this chic soirée.

The Jazzy Brothers captivated the crowd with their original songs. Pianist Nando Santana tickled the ivories with panache while saxophonist Ismael K wowed with his impressive improvisation.

Bvlgari

Born magnificent, reborn through time. Bvlgari’s Eternally Iconic series spotlights the journey of reinvention in its timeless collections.

Rooted in Roman grandeur, the Eternally Iconic collection embodies Bvlgari’s timeless journey of reinvention. Instantly recognisable icons are reinterpreted with visionary design and masterful craftsmanship, reflecting individuality while remaining unmistakably Bvlgari. Since 1948, Serpenti has symbolized transformation, evolving from a coiling watch into a captivating collection where the snake’s sinuous curves are reimagined with artistry and innovation.

The pioneering Tubogas technique has made a glorious return with Bvlgari Tubogas. Inspired by the tubes that transported pressurised gas in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the motif’s avant-garde twist has been elevated from a Bvlgari signature to a new brand icon. Weaving past and present with innovation and craftsmanship into a versatile collection of gold mastery. Inspired by Rome’s iconic octagonal architecture, Octo redefines watch design with a perfect balance of form and function, Italian style, and Swiss precision.

The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Saga celebrates over a decade of record-breaking ultra-thin watchmaking. Since 2014, it has set multiple world records, from the thinnest manual tourbillon and automatic watch to the thinnest perpetual calendar, culminating in the Octo Finissimo Ultra Tourbillon, just 1.85 mm thin, pushing the boundaries of horological innovation.

B.zero1 was born in 1999, the spellbinding marriage of the Roman epigraphy in Bvlgari’s logo with the industrial lines of the Tubogas spiral. Its unmistakable shape is a platform for boundless experimentation

that is rewriting the rules of jewellery design. Its countless variations of form and materials illustrate Bvlgari’s steadfast dedication to visionary innovation that defies trends.

Divas’ Dream captures the luminous essence of Bvlgari’s birthplace, Rome, celebrating the timeless elegance of the modern woman. Inspired by fanshaped mosaics in Roman baths, its iconic design symbolizes balance, joyful femininity and refinement.

HEALING

ACROSS THE AGES

To highlight the Six Senses spa's unique blend of innovation and tradition, the new director Claire Martin shares two emblematic treatments: JetPeel™ facials and sound therapy.

The Six Senses Spa mirrors The Alpina Gstaad’s mix of the modern and historic by bridging innovative therapies with traditional Eastern practices. The spa expert guides clients in selecting the best treatments for their needs, to be enjoyed in spacious tranquility in the indulgent 2'000 sq-metre space.

More than skin deep

The verdant valleys and mountains that rise around Gstaad are a testament that water is truly the source of life. And of beauty, as witnessed in a new revolution in skincare. JetpeelTM is a non-invasive treatment that hydrates, sculpts, and cleanses without needles. Instead, high-speed hydroporation infuses the skin with a wealth of anti-aging and skin-boosting ingredients, like hyaluronic acid for hydration to the botanical Brightening Complex that returns skin to its natural glow. “From the very first session, our clients notice a smoother, firmer, and more radiant complexion,” says Claire.

From aerospace to anti-aging

How has JetPeel™ revolutionised how spas are cosmetically removing signs of aging? Derived from

aerospace engineering, hydroporation features a highly precise, supersonic jet stream of microdroplets that deeply cleanse, exfoliate, and permeate the skin with beneficial serums. This results in an enhanced absorption of active ingredients that supports regeneration while reducing impurities and redness. Modeled after a laser beam, JetPeel™ is remarkably pain-free with no downtime.

Elevate your complexion

JetPeel™ offers a range of revitalising benefits that turn back the clock, reducing fine lines and wrinkles while minimising pores. Ever so gentle and non-invasive, these nourishing facials are suitable for all skin types, including people with acne and pigmentation issues. Numerous clinical studies by top university hospitals have scientifically confirmed the deep effectiveness and efficacy of JetPeel™.

An Alpine antidote

How does JetPeel™ rejuvenate skin that has been damaged by exposure to outdoor elements in the Alps? Claire explains, “The high-pressure aerosol intensely hydrates cold- and wind-weathered skin and exfoliates your face to remove dead skin cells.” Like a magic wand for your skin, this innovative hydroporation treatment deeply cleans, unclogs pores and stimulates circulation, for a healthy, natural glow.

“PROVIDING A PATHWAY TO YOUR TRUE LIMITLESS NATURE.”

Of sound mind

The familiar beat of your favourite love song, the ethereal chords of a church organ, the “om” hummed in yoga class. Sounds can really move us, and sound healing harnesses this power in a deeper way to improve your physical and mental well-being.

Singing bowls produce sacred sounds that reverberate in your innermost self, “Providing a pathway to your true limitless nature,” Claire enthuses. Transformative and transcendent, sound healing can be experienced alone or with loved ones.

A treasured collection

The Six Senses Spa boasts an exclusive collection of over 40 different instruments. Like The Alpina Gstaad’s discerning clientele, “They come from many continents — Asia, Africa, Europe, South America — to create a unique sensorial meditation,” explains Claire. It is truly rare to have such a variety of instruments, plus masters like Claire and Head Therapist Antonis Sarris leading the sound healing sessions.

Resonating benefits

Singing bowl meditation offers a range of potential benefits for both physical and mental well-being. Participants experience reduced stress and anxiety, improved sleep quality and mood, and pain relief. The vibrations quiet the mind and expand your consciousness to improve concentration. Some believe the benefits are linked to the bowls’ capacity to stimulate the production of positive hormones, alter brainwave patterns, and resonate with the body’s energy field.

From ancient to innovative

Rooted in ancient traditions, singing bowl meditation is undergoing modern innovation through scientific exploration and creative applications. Research is increasingly validating the positive effects of singing bowl sound therapy on physiological and psychological well-being. Innovative methods include designing specialized bowls for specific body areas, integrating with other wellness practices like yoga, and exploring how sound frequencies impact brain activity.

WITH ANTONIS SARRIS

“I BELIEVE EVERY PERSON IS UNIQUE... MY WORK AT THE SPA IS NOT JUST A PROFESSION — IT 'S A WAY OF LIFE.”

A WORLD-CLASS SANCTUARY OF WELLBEING

Go deep into the ethos of the Six Senses Spa and discover how Head Therapist Antonis Sarris harnesses over 20 years of experience in this unique haven of healing.

Indulge your senses while optimising your health at our exclusive Six Senses spa. Developed by expert practitioners, our wide range of spa services provide a rejuvenating balance of high-touch holistic therapies and high-tech biohacking.

How does the Six Senses Spa give our guests at The Alpina Gstaad a tailor-made experience?

I believe every person is unique. We must have a clear understanding of their constitution, experiences, and needs to achieve better results. This is why our guest journey begins with an in-depth lifestyle consultation. They can also opt for a Wellness Screening in which we identify their state of wellness by measuring dozens of biomarkers. This fast analysis enables us to design a tailor-made treatment or multi-day program that is in perfect alignment with each guest.

Can you elaborate on the unique nature of the spa that blends a wide range of treatments?

The spa’s singularity is its synergy between traditional and Western evidence-based treatments and technology. This includes Tibetan healing and Hyper Max Oxygen training to boost cellular health. We complement our services with wellness practices like Energy and Sound healing and Yoga, Tai Chi, and meditation classes.

Can you explain your approach and how the guests benefit from your two decades of experience?

After experiencing difficulties at a young age that inspired me to heal myself, I now have dedicated my life to healing others. My work at the spa is not just a profession — it is a way of life. Guests benefit from the

expertise of a highly experienced practitioner, gaining exceptional results that extend beyond their visit. It has always been a privilege and a pleasure for me to help people rebalance and optimise their physical and mental well-being. My guests can truly feel this gratitude and enjoyment.

Tell us about what makes the spa a holistic retreat. Our approach begins with conscientious hospitality and empathy to better understand the interconnections between a guest’s body, emotional state, and social conditions. For example, we conduct a wellness consultation before and at their arrival to customise their integrative program, including specialised culinary experiences, spa treatments, and classes. Consequently, our guests receive care in an authentic, personalised way.

How is the spa embracing the latest trends in innovation?

At the forefront of spa innovation, we excel in biohacking — a set of methods and devices that optimise physical and mental health and well-being. Guests achieve maximum results within minutes, including full-body cryotherapy to increase blood flow or a Hyper Max oxygen chamber to improve your body’s oxygen purity.

In what way does the spa mirror The Alpina Gstaad’s dedication to the highest standards of sustainability?

We set measurable goals, like reducing consumption and inventory, eliminating single-use plastics, and implementing best practices for waste.

LET IT SNOW

Much more than lessons, Ski School Rougemont offers tailor-made experiences to enjoy Gstaad’s winter wonderland to the fullest.

Picture yourself slicing through pristine powder.

Getting tips on your technique from a pro skier. Sledding down trails with the wind in your hair. Snowshoeing to a cozy alpine hut. Ski School Rougemont is more than a ski school. A few hours or a full day with their staff feels like spending time with a friend or a personalised guide.

“Our philosophy goes beyond teaching skiing or even sports in general,” shares Managing Director Lorenz Bach. “We aim to always create unforgettable experiences that go beyond the ordinary.”

Near The Alpina Gstaad, the ski school’s professional and engaging instructors speak over five languages, perfect for putting the hotel’s multilingual clientele at ease. In addition to premium ski lessons, they offer a wealth of winter activities, from snow tubing to cross-country skiing. Ski School Rougemont's five-star service takes care of all the details — like rentals, passes, and pickup — so you can concentrate on having fun.

Elevate your skiing

For more advanced skiers, the instructors analyse your technique to customise a lesson to improve your weaknesses. Group lessons are available for children to learn in a fun setting. Beyond lessons, ski guides show adept skiers the mountains’ most snow-sure pistes. Adrenaline junkies love heli-skiing adventures that offer birds-eye views. For “earn your turns” skiers, take a backcountry hike for a rewarding descent in fresh powder. Curious about ski racing? Beginners and advanced racers get slalom tips — from a former world-class champion if you wish!

“OUR PHILOSOPHY GOES BEYOND TEACHING SKIING OR EVEN SPORTS IN GENERAL.”

Snow play

Some of the loveliest groomed cross-country runs weave through Gstaad. Glide through majestic forests surrounded by awe-inspiring mountains. Trails range from easygoing to a full-body workout. Head out on a snowshoeing adventure, choosing between leisurely strolls and heart-pumping summit ascents. Indulge in a full moon outing or fondue in a cozy restaurant for a special moment. Family-friendly activities include snow tubing, ski biking, and sledding. For the latter, take advantage of groomed pistes that are off limits to skiers. Test your balance at the ice-skating rink in the centre of Gstaad, where you can learn to skate or hone your hockey skills.

Chaletbau Matti

Master artisans of the Alps, Chaletbau Matti seamlessly blends tradition with modern elegance, creating timeless Alpine retreats that exude sophistication.

Nestled in the heart of Gstaad, Chaletbau Matti is a name synonymous with luxury, craftsmanship, and tradition in chalet construction. Established in 1941 by Jakob Matti, the company has grown from a small carpentry workshop in Saanen to a leading force in luxury chalet design and construction, with over 125 employees today. The firm’s dedication to blending ancestral expertise with modern innovation has earned it an international reputation. More than just building homes, Chaletbau Matti is about creating a lifestyle that harmonises with the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps. The company's projects, which include over 250 chalets in Gstaad and residences across Europe, are testaments to their commitment to excellence. Each project is approached with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that every chalet is not only a home to feel safe in but a work of art to be proud of.

One of the unique aspects of Chaletbau Matti is its dedication to using antique wood, a practice that started around 1980. This approach not only adds character and history to the chalets but also aligns with sustainable practices by reusing and repurposing materials. The company’s projects are therefore integral to the cultural and visual identity of Gstaad, honoring the stunning Alpine surroundings while offering unparalleled luxury.

Today, still under the leadership of the Matti family, the company continues to evolve, adapting to the changing needs of clients and the challenges of modern construction. Their commitment to sustainability, innovation, and maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship ensures that Chaletbau Matti will remain at the forefront of luxury chalet construction for generations to come — continuously turning your dreams into reality.

Jaggi

JAGGI brings together tradition, craftsmanship, and modern design to create unique projects that reflect the beauty of the Swiss Alps.

For decades, JAGGI has been a cornerstone of Gstaad’s architectural landscape, expertly blending heritage, innovation, and artistry. Led by a talented trio — Elisabeth Wampfler, Urs Kunz, and Klaus Breuninger — the firm approaches each project like a jigsaw puzzle, carefully piecing together client wishes, materials, and design elements to create something truly unique. Whether it’s The Alpina Gstaad or the newly constructed Gstaad Airport, JAGGI’s portfolio is a testament to their expertise. They’ve not only shaped the local architectural scene but have also taken their signature Swiss precision to international projects, from a villa in Frankfurt to a finca in Mallorca. These projects illustrate the trust clients place in JAGGI’s ability to deliver on their vision, no matter where they are located.

The team’s strength lies in their collaborative approach. Wampfler leads architecture, Breuninger handles interior design, and Kunz oversees planning and construction. Together with their team, they ensure that each client’s vision is fully realised, no matter the scale of the project. They are just as comfortable developing an entire hotel or luxury chalet as they are handling a small bathroom renovation. The most recent challenge is the new construction of the Le Rosey school campus that just started. Together with the world known architects of Snohetta a new landmark is being created in the heart of Gstaad. Aesthetics, technical solutions and logistics are once more in demand. This project, like many others, highlights their ability to seamlessly blend different styles while maintaining a cohesive overall aesthetic, and to successfully bring projects to fruition. JAGGI’s work thrives on creativity and precision, delivering thoughtful solutions tailored to the unique needs of each client. With every project, JAGGI continues to turn concepts into architectural realities, ensuring that each structure is as distinctive and refined as the vision behind it.

A lot can happen in a year.

Zbären

As experts in design, manufacturing, and Swiss craftsmanship, Zbären Kreativküchen AG has perfected the recipe for one-of-a-kind kitchen design.

Set in the heart of the Swiss Alps, Zbären has been elevating the art of customised kitchens for over 75 years. By expertly managing each step — design, manufacturing, and installation — the 3rd generation family business creates one-of-a-kind kitchens that perfectly harmonises with each clients’ needs and desires. Since 2006, brothers Benjamin and Matthias have continued their family’s tradition while setting new standards in kitchen design. Bespoke goes beyond with Zbären Kreativküchen, as witnessed by this madeto-measure wine cabinet. Often wine is stored out of sight. The client wanted his wine to be showcased in the dining room. After a personalised consultation with the client — a Zbären signature that ensures every design is as unique as the individual — Benjamin designed a wine cabinet from exquisite walnut. With sophisticated lighting reminiscent of art galleries, racks beautifully display an array of bottles, custom-made shelves present elegant wooden wine boxes, and sparkling glasses are easily within reach for entertaining.

The result? A spectacular built-in that makes the dining room shine. “Wine storage is more complicated than kitchen cabinets because they are so technical,” explains Benjamin. Traditional wine refrigerators are made from metal to maintain temperature control. Benjamin’s biggest challenge was to do so with wood and facilitate the constant air flow while keeping it invisible. "As cabinet makers, we are used to finding solutions.” So his team created a hidden aeration system, in line with Zbären’s expertise in blending beauty and function. The cabinet’s glass doors were also tinted to prevent sunlight damage. This striking combination of handcrafted wood and innovation is emblematic of Zbären’s design prowess. Proudly based in the artisan-rich Swiss Alps, the nimble company works on projects near and far and from the city to the countryside — crafting dream kitchens for discerning clients.

CHAMPIONING COMMUNITY

Frank Müller, organiser of The Alpina Cup, sheds light on the highlight of Gstaad’s winter sport season.

What is The Alpina Cup and its raison d’être?

Created to foster connections between international and local students, The Alpina Cup features thrilling ski races, hockey games, and a convivial dinner and awards ceremony. The participants include the private elite academy Institut Le Rosey, the local Gymnasium school in Gstaad, the Saanenland Hockey Club, and The Alpina Gstaad.

How did this annual event arrive at the starting gate?

When the hotel opened in 2012, The Alpina Gstaad’s former director, Niklaus Leuenberger, was eager to find ways to better connect with the Gstaad community. When he reached out to me, I suggested strengthening the ties between the local institutions and population with a friendly competition and dinner. These events would both boost the hotel’s engagement as well as create a dialogue between the local and international schools that had previously had little contact. Thus, the Alpina Cup was born.

How did you get involved with The Alpina Cup?

Since I came up with the concept, it was only fitting that Mr. Leuenberger asked me to organise The Alpina Cup alongside teachers and headmasters from the schools. As a passionate former hockey player and coach, I know how sports is an empowering vehicle for camaraderie and connection. As a local business owner — newspaper publishing, marketing, and communications — I knew the event would perfectly align with the region’s high standing as a winter sports capital.

How does The Alpina Gstaad support this popular winter event?

The Alpina has sponsored the entire event since its inception, including dinner and hospitality during the ice hockey game in the centre of Gstaad. Think of the hotel as the spark that has ignited kindled meaningful friendships between the schools that extend throughout the year.

In what ways has The Alpina Cup benefited the Gstaad-Saanenland region?

You can truly feel that this popular event has had a positive effect on the relationship between Saanenland, The Alpina Gstaad, and the Institut Le Rosey. The Alpina Cup has not only significantly increased awareness of the region but has reinforced The Alpina Gstaad’s reputation as an essential member of the community. Plus, the schools maintain their bond throughout the year — like organising a football tournament. Everyone is a winner.

What motivates the participants each year?

Even after the 12th edition, the institutions and individuals are highly motivated. They are galvanised by The Alpina Cup’s exhilarating races and matches that help form and nurture relationships. The students are particularly excited to vie for the trophies in a friendly yet competitive way. The trophies are cowbells, a tribute to the beloved Swiss Alpine cows that make our cheese so special.

La Ferme Saint-Amour

A haven for winter nights, festive dinners, and unforgettable evenings, La Ferme Saint-Amour radiates an irresistible spirit of chic conviviality.

In a candlelit glow pierced with neon red, guests savour gourmet creations as a sequin-clad singer croons at the piano. Champagne corks pop, glasses clink, and laughter fills the air — these dazzling winter nights embody the restaurant’s credo: “life is the most beautiful celebration.” Born in the Alps and now present across four exclusive ski resorts in France and Switzerland, La Ferme Saint-Amour celebrates the Alpine art of living in all its splendour. The recipe for its success — gourmet cuisine, a glamorous setting, polished service, and a festive atmosphere — carries the bold motto: EAT, LOVE & PARTY. The newest outpost opened in December 2024 in Gstaad, the discreet luxury haven for international celebrities. Nestled in the former hotspot Chlosterli, the venue blends chalet cosiness with cosmopolitan glamour: wooden walls and snow-white cushions meet sequins and red neon, creating a unique balance of intimacy and spectacle. At the helm of the kitchen, Michelin-starred chef Éric Frechon crafts contemporary, generous dishes designed to please everyone. From indulgent plates of Wagyu beef, foie gras, and black truffles, to comforting share-style dishes like braised leg of lamb, his cuisine combines refinement and conviviality with local accents. Prestigious cuvées flow as dapper waiters set

the pace, while bartenders shake playful cocktails. DJs, pianists, and live singers infuse the restaurant with an irresistible energy, turning each evening into a celebration. Behind this joyful temple of gastronomy and festivity stands Annie Famose, the Olympic ski champion turned hospitality pioneer. Today, her family-run Group counts over 45 emblematic establishments across mountains and seaside destinations. With La Ferme Saint-Amour, she channels her love of the Alps into an exuberant, glamorous homage to winter nights.

Maze Art Gstaad

From February 19 to 22, 2026, MAZE Art Gstaad returns to the heart of the village, inside the iconic Festival-Zelt. Experience museum-quality art— from Brueghel to Magritte, Severini, and Hollowell— in the Alps’ most exclusive cultural fair.

Now in its third edition, the fair has quickly established itself as one of the most refined cultural rendezvous in the Alps, offering an intimate setting where collectors, connoisseurs, and art lovers encounter masterpieces spanning centuries. Unlike the vast scale of urban fairs, MAZE cultivates exclusivity: only forty hand-picked participants gather to present exceptional works

across modern and contemporary art, Old Masters, photography, design, sculpture, and jewelry. Each gallery is chosen for its ability to bring museumquality treasures to the mountains. Among this year’s treasures is a vibrant trilogy by American artist Loie Hollowell, whose Pressure in Red (2024), Pressure in Yellow (2025), and Pressure in Blue (2025), shown by Pace Gallery, immerse viewers in a symphony of color and energy. From De Jonckheere, visitors can marvel at two masterpieces rarely seen outside museums: Pieter Brueghel the Younger’s The Preaching of Saint John the Baptist (1620), alive with narrative detail, and René Magritte’s enigmatic L’Échelle du feu (1934), a Surrealist invitation to dream. Completing this exceptional trio, Landau Fine Art presents Gino Severini’s Danzatrice (1915–1916), a dazzling Futurist celebration of rhythm and movement. More than an art fair, MAZE Art Gstaad is a journey through time, creativity, and excellence. Amidst snow-covered peaks and the elegance of Gstaad, it offers a rare chance to experience masterpieces in an atmosphere as exclusive as the works themselves.

BACK IN THE DAY

A conversation with writer and local nonagenarian Anton Ruesch, who takes us back to the Gstaad of yesteryear in his intimate book, Gstaader Geschichten.

“I had the good fortune to spend my childhood in beautiful Saanenland, in Gstaad, to be precise. Everything was much simpler then.” These opening lines of Gstaader Geschichten (Stories from Gstaad) set the scene for 1930s-1950s Gstaad, the period of author Anton Ruesch’s childhood. The book’s subtitle, Candidly Told, foreshadows how each tale is shared in an intimate way. Like a grandfather does with his grandkids with wit, wistfulness, and a wink. Written in 2000, the latest edition was translated into English in 2020, so that Gstaad’s current visitors and residents from across the globe can delight in these stories. The Alpina Gstaad has gone a step further, putting Stories from Gstaad in every room, inviting guests to discover the history of this enchanting village. Ever committed to supporting local artisans and strengthening community ties, The Alpina Gstaad is honoured to highlight Anton’s words.

A second chapter

Anton became a writer later in life, telling us, “I began by writing short stories about my father’s death, such as Herrmanns Asche, where I explored what to do with the ashes and the urn. Later, I wrote a family chronicle about my second wife’s family.” He humbly adds, “That is really the extent of my writing background.”

THIS SIMPLER WAY OF LIFE MADE IT “WONDERFUL TO BE A CHILD HERE”.

Yet, these books offered ways for Anton to explore the themes of history, family, and memoir that would continue in Stories from Gstaad. “When I retired, I suddenly had more time on my hands. I was a bit bored, and wanted to keep myself busy,” winks the 90-year-old. “So I started writing these stories.”

“Most of them are drawn from my own memories and knowledge," says Anton, since much of his family are deceased. “I also spoke with many people from the region, but unfortunately many have since passed away.” In an interview with the local newspaper, Gstaad Life, Anton shares how he was transported back in time with the historical photos and anecdotes.

“I even imagined myself wandering around the Gstaad of yore as the stories progressed.”

Growing up in Gstaad

When we ask Anton what it was like to grow up in Gstaad, he replies, “The whole village was our playground back then there were hardly any cars.” This simpler way of life made it “wonderful to be a child here.” In Stories from Gstaad, Anton pens how “Gstaad already had the qualities and charm of a renowned international spa town,” known as kurort in German. The difference between then and now is scale. One funny anecdote Anton shares is when his Gstaad roots were put into question. After applying for an international birth certificate, he was informed that his place of birth was in fact Saanen. “I was told that Gstaad is officially not a place!”

Gstaad

Technically, Gstaad is part of the Saanen municipality. But the proud Gstaader was flabbergasted that his village is not formally recognised.

The Times They Are A-Changin’

An entire chapter is devoted to how Gstaad has changed. “Only 5% of the hotels of that era have stayed the same. Most have been rebuilt or renovated,” says Anton. Only the Rössli and the Olden, two traditional wooden guesthouses from the 19th century the oldest in Gstaad remain. We ask Anton if he feels Gstaad was “better” back then. “Well, I’m 90 years old, so from my perspective, yes, it was better.” He continues, “Everyone in Gstaad knew each other and you knew everything about your neighbours. The village feels much quieter in the evenings because life is centred more around the hotels.” The Alpina Gstaad hopes to rekindle these ties between the hotel and village by sharing Stories from Gstaad.
