JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE

To assist the line manager in the development of ICT within the school and ensure that all computer systems and peripheral devices are fully functional to meet the needs of the school.

RESPONSIBLE TO

ICT Supervisor

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration of Network Systems, assist the ICT Supervisor with:

• Planning, design, specification and installation, including upgrading of all school managed network systems.

• Managing the structured cabled environment of any school managed network.

• Baseline system support and application support on any school managed system.

• Contact with outside agencies as necessary.

• Liaising with managed service provider as required on changes to the Managed Network infrastructure.

Provision and Maintenance of ICT Facilities and Resources, assist the ICT Supervisor with:

• Ensuring bookable resources such as iPad trolleys and chrome book trolleys are located in the right place at the right time.

• Ensuring that all systems are fully functional to meet the needs of the school.

• Daily care and maintenance of all computer systems and their environments.

• Installing hardware and software as appropriate.

• Carrying out repairs to equipment, where appropriate, within the competence of the employee.

• Organising the repair of equipment either on site or with agencies as appropriate.

• Liaising with the managed service provider on the maintenance of the Managed Network infrastructure.

• Replenishment of paper and toner as required in all printers

• Ensuring system security on school managed systems.

Management of all Online Communication Services, assist the ICT Supervisor with:

• Developing and maintaining existing ICT systems.

• Setting up and maintaining appropriate E-mail, Intranet and Internet facilities as required either on school managed systems or the Managed Network infrastructure.

Curricular Assistance, assist the ICT Supervisor with:

• Participating in planning and delivery of relevant induction and training sessions.

• Assisting staff and pupils with hardware and software problems arising from the use of ICT equipment within the classroom.

• Giving advice to the ICT co-ordinator to plan for future ICT advances.

• Setting up standalone computer systems for specific teaching / training situations and functions within the school.

• Assisting with the provision of INSET either in a large group or single tutorial mode.

• Setting up internet and conferencing facilities for specific teaching and / or training situations.

Records and Administration, assist the ICT Supervisor with:

• Keeping an inventory of all hardware, software and consumables.

• Complying with the requirements of the Data Protection Act and Copyright laws.

• Contacting outside agencies (on school’s behalf) concerning ICT facilities and developments within the school.

The post holder will be expected to maintain an awareness of ICT development in order to ensure the currency of ICT services within the school.

Other Duties

• Such other duties as may be assigned within the level of the post.

• Overtime may be required from time to time depending on school events.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• Recognised qualification in ICT or related subject at A Level or equivalent.

• Experience of the routine maintenance of ICT equipment.

• Ability to work effectively and flexibly within a team with a flexible can-do approach, self motivation, resilience and willingness to adapt to the changing needs and priorities within the College.

• Experience in using, installing and configuring MS Windows operating systems and application software.

• Experience in using, installing and configuring iOS and OS Applemac operating systems and application software.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

• Good knowledge of health and safety issues as they relate to the duties of an ICT Technician.

• Experience of working with MDM managing iPads and Mac Mini.

• Knowledge of configuring Chrome Books.

• Experience of working with a Mobile Device Management system eg Merarki.

• Knowledge of Promethean ActivPanels – setup and configuration.

• A minimum of 2 years C2K managed network experience (within the last five years).

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate undertaking a criminal records check through Access NI and to this check being clear of any offences which might affect appointment to this post. The College’s decision on what is acceptable arising from this check is final. The cost of this check is £32.00 and the successful candidate will be required to pay the school for this service.
