SALARY: £13.26 - £14.13 PER HOUR

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB PURPOSE

• To work as part of a team to provide high-quality care and education for children of Pre-Prep age.

• To support children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development in a safe and stimulating environment

• Supervise the children during indoor activities and outdoor play, including break times and mealtimes.

• Ensure that high standards are set and maintained in relation to health and safety and hygiene.

• Maintain effective working relationships with staff and parents.

• Carry out health and safety checks as required to ensure the environment is tidy, safe, clean and secure for children, staff, parents/carers and visitors.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating activities that promote children’s learning and development.

• Provide compassionate care for children, supporting their curiosity and independence.

• Maintain records of children’s development and learning journeys, sharing information with parents/guardians.

• Prepare snacks and drinks, encouraging healthy eating habits.

• Adhere to all safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality policies.

• Work collaboratively with colleagues, contributing ideas and supporting a positive team environment.

• Attend training, staff meetings, and events as required.

• Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as required by management

PERSON SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

• A relevant qualification in Early Years Care and Education (e.g. Level 3 Diploma in Childcare, or equivalent as per the Minimum Standards for Childminding and Daycare for Children under age 12 in Northern Ireland).

• Understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) or equivalent local framework.

• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.

• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA

• Experience working in a Preschool or Early Years setting.

• First Aid certificate.

• Paediatric First Aid Training.

• Additional training in safeguarding, special educational needs, or food hygiene.

The College reserves the right to use any or all of the desirable criteria and to enhance any or all of the essential and/or desirable criteria as the interviewing panel sees fit in short listing for interview.

Appointment to this position is subject to the successful candidate undertaking a criminal records check through Access NI and to this check being clear of any offences which might affect appointment to this post. The College’s decision on what is acceptable arising from this check is final. The cost of this check is £32.00 and the successful candidate will be required to pay the school for this service.
