EARLY - MID 1900s
LATE 1900s
1930 The Thirroul Township started on the west side of the railway line. The retention of the village vibe attracted tourists again.
1987 Railway line from Sydney to Thirroul was electrified. It became a major train stop on the Illawarra line. and became a popular commuter belt suburb. This led to dramatic increase in housing prices with upcoming restaurants and fancy cafes.
1947 Lower coast road renamed Lawrence Hargrave Drive after Australian Pioneer and encoraged development along its coridoor.
TODAY 2021 The LHG drive ends in Thirroul and promotes tourism on a large scale
FUTURE Proposed redevelopment of the town centre precint, including the Thirroul Plaza. Two NSW Government proposals seek to increase traffic flow/ease congestion by removing street parking. Both have been met with opposition from business community and resident groups
