When I can, I’ll cook for my family or give my daughter a bath, because that lets you stay grounded and connected.”
While TV veteran Marti Noxon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “UnREAL”) was very involved in adapting “Sharp Objects,” some of the teleplay was written by original author Flynn. “Nobody understands Camille as much as Gillian,” Adams allows, “ so she was the best resource for me. She had a great point of view, but at the same time, she gave us the liberty to create something on our own. That’s got to be a tricky balance for an author, but she empowered me to just play Camille, and I was really grateful for that.”

Q: We’ve been watching “Home & Family” for several years, and it seems as if co-host Mark Steines has vanished from it with little or no explanation. What happened?

Science and fine dining meet county fair cuisine in Cooking Channel’s ‘Carnival
Kings’
Richie Farina is a Michelin-starred chef who earned his stripes at Chicago’s Moto, a groundbreaking molecular gastronomy restaurant known for creating high-tech dishes and incorporating elements such as carbonated fruit, edible paper and liquid nitrogen into its fare.
Such outside-the-box thinking is Farina’s strong suit, so when the opportunity arose for him to host Cooking Channel’s “Carnival Kings,” he jumped.
The series, which premieres with the first of eight half-hour episodes Thursday, July 12, takes Farina to county fairs in California, Nevada and Arizona, where he attempts to re-create imaginative, outrageous and oversized carnival dishes using his scientific approach in cook-offs with the chefs who created them.
In the opener, he visits the Pima County Fair in Tucson, Ariz., and tries his hand at making a bacon-wrapped duck breast slider with caramel apple slaw
“I make a rainbow-colored slaw,” Farina explains. “Essentially, you can take red cabbage and when you play with the alkalinity scale and the acidity scale – say you take something like baking soda and add it to cabbage juice, it turns blue.” If you take acid and add it to the cabbage juice, it turns pink. So being able to use natural food coloring, for lack of a better term. And also blue isn’t a natural thing you see in food, so being able to have very distinctive, not-normally-seen colors in food but have it be done in a natural way rather than just adding food dye to something (is fun).”

“The last one I read was ‘Ready Player One’ in preparation for the movie.”
What did you have for dinner last night?
“What I had for dinner last night were five Oreos, probably about a handful of Pringles and two hot dogs that I microwaved. It was about 2:30 in the morning and I was ready to go to bed (laughs).”
What is your next project?
“I am doing some consulting. I’m hoping to open a museum in Chicago It’s going to be called the Museum of Wonder and there are a couple of food installations within it, kind of approaching it with art. So I’m kind of doing that and also a few projects of things I’ve been doing in the past of multi-sensory dining. So incorporating all five senses – visuals, smells, touch and taste and all these things into a dining project.”
When was your last vacation, where and why? “The last vacation I actually took was when me and my wife got engaged, and that was 2013 and that was Walt Disney World.”
