Back to bankers: Fintech fat cats travel the world in fourth season on HBO
Money makes the world go ‘round. We all know the phrase, but now more than ever, wealth — and the wealth gap — has become a central part of our social and political discourse. In a world where billionaires run everything from marathons to entire countries, there exists, for better or for worse, a cultural obsession with “the haves,” and television remains the perfect medium to explore extreme money-making ventures from the comfort of one’s own couch.
This new year, HBO’s hit financial business drama “Industry” begins its fourth season. Don’t miss your chance to buy in when it premieres Sunday, Jan. 11, on HBO and HBO Max.
Following the success of other top-rated business series such as “Suits,” “Billions” and “Succession,” “Industry” follows a group of upand-coming bankers and financial traders who are hoping to make it big and land the job of a lifetime following another major catastrophe: the 2008 recession. Counting Myha’la (“Leave the World Behind,” 2023), Sagar Radia (“The Good Karma Hospital”), Marisa Abela (“Back to Black,” 2024) and Ken Leung (“Lost”) among the main cast, “Industry” has seen significant growth in viewership since it released its third season in September 2024.
“For three seasons, ‘Industry’ has been unflinching in its examination of ambition and class, solidifying itself as a marquee HBO drama,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice-president of HBO Programming and head of HBO drama series and films, wrote in a statement to the media. “Under Mickey [Down] and Konrad [Kay]’s [both of “Hoff the Record”] singular vision, this twisted, thrilling look at London finance has redefined the contemporary workplace show.
“We’re so excited that viewers and critics have recognized Season 3 as bigger and better than ever, buoyed by sublime performances from our unparalleled cast.”
For those who may not recall, Season 3 ended as (spoilers!) Rishi (Radia) defaulted on his debts to some seedy loan sharks and his wife (Emily Barber, “MobLand”) was murdered in return. As Rishi faced the life-altering consequences of his pecuniary choices, Yasmin (Abela) accepted a proposal from old money Lumi CEO Henry Muck (Kit Harington, “Game of Thrones”), further solidifying her rise in status by association. Harper (Myha’la), meanwhile, was also on the rise in the Season 3 finale, thanks to her funds secured by Robert’s (Harry Lawtey, “Joker: Folie a Deux,” 2024) godfather, Otto (Roger Barclay, “The Bay”), and her ambition to tackle the American market from her native New York.
Robert, too, is stateside, having left the U.K. after one final tryst with Yasmin. And, given that he has now settled in a cushy Silicon Valley job out west, Deadline has confirmed that Lawtey’s character will not be returning for Season 4. Myha’la, Abela, Harington, Radia, Leung and Barclay are all returning, however, as are Miriam Petche (“The Worst Witch”) and Andrew Havill (“The King’s Speech,” 2010).
As for what the future of the series has in store for fans of the show, writer-creators Down and Kay told Elle that they have “broadened the canvas again,” claiming that the eight-episode season “should make for the most compulsively watchable week-to-week viewing experience we’ve presented since we first aired.”
In the same Elle exclusive interview, the pair noted that the new plot points have “slotted seamlessly into the ‘Industry’ universe” and “made it feel richer than ever.”
Be sure to invest in Season 4 of “Industry” when it premieres Sunday, Jan. 11, on HBO and HBO Max.

“The Night Manager” - Season 2 (Jan. 11)
Making its much-anticipated return a decade after it first aired, the star-studded, action-packed drama, based on John le Carré’s novel, follows soldier-turned-hotel manager Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston). In this new season, the drama catches up with Pine — now living as Alex Goodwin, a low-level MI6 officer running a quiet surveillance unit in London — who is thrust back into the world of espionage when an old foe reappears, leading Pine to an encounter with a new opponent: Colombian businessman Teddy Dos Santos (Diego Calva). Camila Morrone co-stars.

“Tell Me Lies” - Season 3 (Jan. 13)
The new season of this drama series follows Lucy Albright (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen DeMarco (Jackson White) as they’ve rekindled their tumultuous romance in time for spring semester at Baird College. While they promise things will be different this time, past indiscretions hinder their best intentions, and Lucy finds herself embroiled in a controversy she wants nothing to do with.
“Love Through a Prism” - Season 1 (Jan.
15)
In early-1900s London, a Japanese student who arrives to study art finds herself in the same orbit as a talented young aristocrat. This new anime series follows a cross-cultural romance, unfolding within one of the city’s most respected art academies. Atsumi Tanezaki, Koki Uchiyama, Yuki Kaji, Megumi Han, Yohei Azakami, Shogo Sakata, Sumire Uesaka, Akari Kito, Hochu Otsuka, Yuhko Kaida and Junichi Suwabe voice star.
‘That Thing You Do!’ is Tom Hanks’ thing
With two Oscars as best actor to his name, Tom Hanks could write whatever ticket he wanted for himself in Hollywood by the time he wrote and directed “That Thing You Do!,” his hugely entertaining 1996 comedy about a 1960s pop-music group that ABC shows Sunday, Jan. 11. He also co-stars as a savvy talent agent who becomes the manager of The Wonders, a band that has local Pennsylvania success thanks largely to a replacement drummer (played by Tom Everett Scott) who raises the group’s presence by giving their music a different beat, very literally.
Johnathon Schaech, Steve Zahn and Ethan Embry play the other Wonders, with Liv Tyler as the girlfriend of the band’s resident songwriter (Schaech) — and the result of all of their efforts is a nostalgic and genuinely fun confection with a soundtrack that has endured by cleverly mirroring familiar ‘60s hits. Also notable in the cast is Charlize Theron, in an early role as the drummer’s love interest, who eventually finds that she prefers a hunky dentist to her musically inclined beau.
“Pole to Pole with Will Smith” (Jan. 14)
Five years in the making, this exciting new docuseries follows Will Smith across all seven continents, taking him from the icefields of Antarctica to the jungles of the Amazon, the mountains of the Himalayas, the deserts of Africa, the islands of the Pacific and the icebergs of the Arctic. Inspired by his late mentor to explore life’s big questions, Will throws himself into incredible challenges for 100 days: skiing to the South Pole, catching a giant anaconda, milking a venomous tarantula, climbing mountains, and diving under the ice of the North Pole.

“The King of Queens” (Cozi TV, daily): Kevin James had appeared on friend Ray Romano’s series “Everybody Loves Raymond” before landing his own CBS sitcom, which had a healthy nine-season run (1998-2007). He plays amiable delivery man Doug, who frequently engages in loving bickering with wife Carrie (Leah Remini), whose father Arthur (Jerry Stiller) resides in the basement of the couple’s home and shares his daughter’s penchant for highly opinionated comments. Victor Williams and Patton Oswalt also are among the cast members.
“Stand by Me” (Turner Classic Movies, Friday, Jan. 17): Director Rob Reiner’s wonderful 1986 take on a Stephen King novella recalls an adventure shared by several young friends on Labor Day weekend in 1959, when they searched for the body of another boy. The trek takes plenty of unexpected turns that place the quartet — played by Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Jerry O’Connell — in the company of some very colorful, and frequently threatening, people. Richard Dreyfuss narrates the story as the adult incarnation of Wheaton’s character; Kiefer Sutherland and John Cusack also appear.

“A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (HBO Max — Jan. 18, Series Premiere)
A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

Djokovic enters Australian Open balancing legacy and expectations
After much anticipation, the 2026 Australian Open has arrived. Melbourne Park hosts the first tennis Grand Slam of the season from Jan. 12 to Feb. 1, as the world’s best arrive in Melbourne, Australia, looking to set the tone for the year ahead. Fans can follow their favorite players every match and serve, with full coverage on ESPN.
Every season, the Australian Open marks the start of a new Grand Slam season with young and rising stars eager to make a statement and veterans looking to keep their place in the sport. Among those veterans is world No. 4-ranked Novak Djokovic, who will be chasing his 11th AO victory.
The 38-year-old tennis legend enters the tournament with high expectations that simply refuse to fade away. Concluding his 2025 campaign, Djokovic reached all four major semifinals last season, finishing the year with two titles and a 39-11 record, capturing his 100th and 101st ATP singles title to make him one of the players to beat heading into Melbourne.
Despite Djokovic remaining one of the tournament’s most consistent players, the field is surrounded by youthful talent as world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz and world No. 2 Jannik Sinner enter as the early favorites. Plus, Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz and Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime all remain capable of making their mark in the tournament with strong serving and physical play.
Health remains the one factor that could impact Djokovic’s ability to perform at an elite level, and considering the depth of the men’s game, no match is guaranteed. With the game’s young top talents able to derail a favorite on any given day, Djokovic’s early-round work will be critical to preserving his energy throughout the tournament and as the season progresses.
Fans won’t want to miss any of the action as the 2026 Australian Open begins Jan. 12, and runs through to Feb. 1, in Melbourne, Australia, with full coverage broadcast live on ESPN.

He had his first role as a series regular in the syndicated “Team Knight Rider” (1997-98), then was a co-star of the then-CW and UPN’s “Roswell” (1999-2002) and ABC’s “Revenge” (2011-15).

“Shooting in sequence allows every moment to build on each other. Big open set, no marks on the floor, two cameras, no dolly, no dolly track, no lights, no flags, no C-stands. Everything is preset. So, we come in and we rehearse and then we shoot, and we have a freedom to move that I have never experienced before working with a camera. So, it feels more like doing a play.” - Noah Wyle of “The Pitt” in an interview with “PBS NewsHour.”
“People responded to ‘Industry’ spreading its wings in season three and having greater ambitions. And I think that’s even more true of season four. It still feels like ‘Industry,’ but it also feels like the most high-camp, crazy villain origin story of all time. ...I respect the fact that when [‘Industry’ creators] Mickey [Down] and Konrad [Kay] make a move in the show, they stick by it.” - Marisa Abela of “Industry” speaking with AV Club.
“In 10 years, I would like to be just wrapping up ‘The Rookie,’ maybe handing it off to someone else. Then, spend a soft retirement visiting ‘The Rookie’ and dabbling in four to seven ‘Rookie’ spinoff series that are still going and very, very popular.” - Nathan Fillion of “The Rookie” in an interview with People.
