Week of July 10 - 16, 2016

Rami Malek stars in the Season 2 premiere of “Mr. Robot” Wednesday on USA Network.

‘Mr. Robot’ tackles the mechanics of a second season

T o risk understatement, no other television series –past or present – is like “Mr. Robot.”

The complexity and unpredictability of the USA Network series’ first season earned it many fans, and a Peabody Award plus two Golden Globes for best television drama and co-star Christian Slater. It reboots both literally and figuratively as Season 2 begins with two episodes and a live (in the East) after-show Wednesday, July 13, with Rami Malek returning as technologically immersed loner Elliot ... who has become the main nemesis of a “change the world”bent hacker team and its figurehead, known as Mr. Robot and played by Slater.

“I think the whole show has been about Elliot’s emotional journey,” says creator and executive producer Sam Esmail, “and I really wanted to focus on that (in the first season) and make it less about the plot. And so for me, the

headline for Season 2 is, how do these two guys reconcile? How does Elliot reconcile the fact that he’s just become aware that he’s seeing this fantasy (of Slater’s character, who evidently exists only in his mind)? That’s the struggle that is going to kind of take over in Season 2.”

As for other creative twists that frequently have stunned “Mr. Robot” followers, Esmail maintains, “I’m not interested in ‘gotcha’ moments or trying to shock the audience –even though it happens. But I think it really happens because, first of all, Rami brilliantly plays Elliot in a way that draws you into his psyche, so you’re learning it with him. As long as that’s organic, as long as that feels real, then I think the twists will come from there.”

Movie veteran Slater made several earlier runs at television series (“My Own Worst Enemy,” “Mind Games,” “Breaking In”), and he recalls his initial take on “Mr. Robot”

vividly: “I read the pilot, and I had questions about it. I thought, ‘Wow. This is very interesting,’ and it certainly was subject matter that I hadn’t really seen tackled in this way before. And I thought the Mr. Robot character was very mysterious, and I remember, I said to my agent, ‘Do you think that guy is really there?’ And my agent was like, ‘Oh, come on. They would never do that. The show is called ”Mr. Robot.“ It would be crazy.’ ”

However, Slater’s hunch was confirmed by his first meeting with Esmail, who laid out the entire premise at Slater’s request. Malek reports he also knew from the start, adding that when production on Season 2 began, “Enough was shared with me. I mean, with this character, I have to prepare for anything at any given moment ... so I go through kind of every direction as to what possibly happened to someone like this because, in his head, you never know what has happened.

duo and where their relationship might be headed in the future.

‘Lucifer’s’ Lauren German talks Chloe & Lucifer in Season 2

It seems like forever since the “Lucifer” hiatus began, and unfortunately we’ve still got a long way to go before everyone’s favorite devil returns to Fox in the fall.

Luckily, Lauren German and Tom Ellis have decided to indulge fans of Chloe and Lucifer in a little discussion about this awesome crime-fighting

As far as the pair’s romantic relationship, we’ll have to keep waiting to see if “Lucifer” goes for more of a slow burn, but we may be getting at least one answer about their dynamic. According to German, Chloe will realize just who Lucifer really is and accept that he’s quite literally the devil – eventually.

“I think we’ll finally get to a point where it’s just going to be inevitable,” German says. “I’ll think we’ll go there.”

Here’s hoping we “get there” sometime in Season 2. While it’s believable that she wouldn’t learn the truth in the fast-paced 13 episodes of Season 1, it’s stretching the premise a little far to keep her in the dark for two whole seasons.

For more “Lucifer” news and the full interview with German and Ellis, check out “DC All Access” at DCComics.com

“Lucifer” returns to Fox Sept. 19, 2016.

And I think having to trace back and discover the truth ultimately makes him more complex to play, just trying to decipher what he’s actually seen and where he’s actually been. That kind of haunts me as a human being, having to do that.”

Grace Gummer (“Extant”) joins “Mr, Robot” as an FBI agent, with Carly Chaikin and Portia Doubleday among other returning cast members. Even if a viewer feels certain about what’s up with any of them at any given moment in the show, that’s not a bet that should be placed easily per Esmail, who’s also directing the entire second season.

“This series is filling in the blanks of the past and the present and even the future,” he explains, “and it’s almost like we keep stepping back. You know, you are this close to the painting. You take a step back, and then another, and you see more of it. I think that’s how I’m approaching every season.”

Anyone who likes their grilling with a side dish of engineering would do well to check out “Man Fire Food.”

In the half-hour series, now in its second season Tuesdays on Cooking Channel, host Roger Mooking travels the country to check out some of the impressive, inventive and sometimes downright odd contraptions that people come up with in their efforts to put naked flame to meat.

“I’m always surprised every time I go to a new location,” Mooking says, “how people find new ways of cooking over a fire. Some people do these really makeshift rigs with really inexpensive tools and stuff that they can get a hardware store. Other people are like engineers and they’re crafting these steel monoliths. It blows my mind and it’s hard to say what’s more ingenious, the monoliths or the makeshift stuff. They just all take so much ingenuity, man. They all amaze me.”

From outdoor rotisseries and ovens fashioned from steel troughs to brick-and-steel-grate barbecues and pots over wood fires, Mooking has seen the inventions and tasted the meals they produced. As chef, restaurateur and lifelong barbecue enthusiast, Mooking is clearly in his glory as he meets their inventors and swaps notes.

In Tuesday’s episode, he heads to the Florida Panhandle to meet a man and woman who create a pulled pork burger on Texas toast with pork pulled by a power drill with an attachment.

“It’s very efficient,” he says. “The only thing is you’ve got to make sure you don’t overwork it. So it happens really quickly, you do it while it’s hot and the meat’s really hot. You don’t have to mix it too much because then it starts to get sticky. So just really quickly pull like four pork shoulders in about six seconds.”

What book are you currently reading?

“I’m not reading any books right now. I mean, I’ve got so much work to do I don’t have time to read books (laughs).”

What did you have for dinner last night?

“Last night for dinner I had a gem lettuce salad and I had some chicken livers, like chicken nuggets with chicken livers. And I had some mussels.”

What is your next project?

“Oh my gosh, I don’t even know where to start (laughs). I’ve got a lot of projects and I’m a bit of a busybody, so there’s so many projects on the go. And I don’t like to talk about projects until they’re released because ... I believe you have to build up pressure so I like to build up the pressure. And when you release it the pressure’s released. So there’s lots on the go, lots of stuff we’re working on.”

When was the last vacation you took, where and why?

“The last vacation I took was Barcelona and that was in August last year. ... The food was spectacular, really, really good. Me and my wife pick vacations based on where I know we can get good food and where we can roam around and just get lost. So that’s a good town to do that.”

ALYSON HANNIGAN

OF ‘PENN & TELLER: FOOL US’ WEDNESDAY ON THE CW

‘Doc & Darryl’ tells a story of addiction and redemption

They were two of the brightest stars New York City had seen since Mantle and Mays.

One, a right-handed power pitcher with a 95 mph fastball and a curve that regularly flummoxed opposing batters. The other, a tall, angular left-handed slugger who drew comparisons to Ted Williams and Willie McCovey.

Together, they were supposed to lead the New York Mets to multiple playoff and World Series appearances during the 1980s and then one day wind up in the Hall of Fame. But it was not to be for Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawberry, the subjects of the “30 for 30” documentary “Doc & Darryl,” premiering Thursday, July 14, on ESPN.

The hourlong film from Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio tells the story of two young men whose stellar playing careers were derailed in their prime by substance abuse issues. It catches up with the now clean and sober 50-ish ex-athletes at a Queens diner, where they look back on their careers and their struggles with drink and drugs, and talk about what their lives have been like since.

“I think that they both are able to look back on their careers with a great deal of pride for what they did do,” Bonfiglio says. “I think Darryl says in the film to Doc that everybody focuses on we didn’t do but what about what we did accomplish? And I think that some of their downturns and darker times tended to overshadow what they did accomplish on the field.”

The two men recall the Mets’ championship season of 1986 and the parade down the Canyon of Heroes celebrating their come-from-behind World Series victory over the Boston Red Sox. Jon Stewart, a lifelong Mets fan, also shares his memory of that team and these two special players.

Strawberry eventually would find his way out of addiction through religion, while Gooden found his salvation in rehab. And even though they broke many a Mets fan’s heart, they still loom as iconic figures in the big city.

“These guys are still beloved for what they meant to the city, to the franchise and they’re iconic players and people,” Bonflglio says. “And the sense that I’ve gotten is that there’s still a tremendous amount of love and support for these guys from the fans although it has been up and down over the years. But I think now since their playing days are long gone, I think people tend to remember the good times more so than the bad.”

Tony Robbins of “Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru” on Netflix

“My wife and my family and I tend to binge-watch series; we watched eight years’ worth of ‘24’ over three years. We like ‘The Killing’ and things like ‘Making a Murderer,’ and we just watched ‘The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.’ And we like to watch movies, romantic comedies and actionadventures.”

Were you surprised to get the offer to become the new host of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us”?

It pretty much was just a little gift. It was a wonderful phone call to get, because it’s a completely new arena for me. It also came at a time where my oldest daughter has become very interested in magic, so it was great timing for me as a mom. It shoots in Las Vegas, and it was when my kids were in spring break.

Though your Willow on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” knew more than a bit about magic, do you?

I really like that I don’t. I’m still sort of at the same level my seven-year-old is, where I’m like, “Wow! That’s so cool!” Now I have a little bit more of an understanding, but I also want to believe that it just is magic – and when you watch Penn & Teller, you really do believe that. There’s no trickery involved.

To prepare for your new job, did you watch earlier “Fool Us” episodes?

I did, yes. I’m a huge fan of Jonathan Ross (the show’s original host), so really, the most intimidating part of this was knowing how brilliant he is and that I’m going to be completely different than him. It’s definitely a shift, and I’m not trying to be Jonathan Ross; I would fail miserably at that.

I was just looking at it as, “I’m going to bring my perspective,” and I’m like the majority of the audience. I’m sitting there doing, “What? How did they do that?” Also, it’s a little bit of a boys’ club, even though there are some female magicians ... and I think it’s good to have my perspective of asking the “girly” questions.

Nia Long of “Uncle Buck” on ABC

“We’re still in Season 1 of ‘Ray Donovan’ because I love that show but I usually fall asleep before my fiancé and I can sit down to watch it. But that’s like our guilty pleasure. ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ is on our DVR. ‘Power’ is on our DVR. ... You know what I’m a sucker for? I love ‘Dateline.’ Like I am obsessed with any shows about murder mysteries and criminals and sex trafficking and documentaries. Like I have a whole other section of all of that type of television as well.”

Kevin Burkhardt of “MLB on Fox Pregame”

“Well I record a lot of sporting events (laughs). Right now, I have a couple of shows on History channel. I have this show called ‘Alone.’ I have a show called ‘Barbarians.’ And then the show ‘Chopped’ on Food Network. It’s funny, we started recording ‘Chopped Jr.’ now. They have a kids show and my son loves it. So I would say those. Other than sports, I think that’s what I have on there right now.”

Alyson Hannigan of ‘Penn & Teller: Fool Us“ on The CW

“I like to record the ‘Amazing Races’ and the ‘Survivors.’ I watch ‘Survivor’ while I’m having a snack, because I’m like, ‘They’re suffering and I’m not.’ It’s awful, but you just get to appreciate it.”

There’s little doubt that Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta will be part of the National League squad when the 87th Major League Baseball AllStar game airs Tuesday, July 12, on Fox. In all likelihood, Arrieta who was snubbed last season, will be the starting pitcher.

The 2015 Cy Young Award winner who won 22 games in 2015 picked right up this season where he left off. A one-run loss in early June ended a 20-game regular season winning streak for Arrieta that dated back to last season. Among those wins was his second career no-hitter; an April 21 blowout win over the Cincinnati Reds. Arrieta recorded his tenth win of the season in June and is on pace for back-to-back 20 win seasons. Another Cy Young Award remains a strong possibility.

Should Arietta be named the starter in San Diego’s Petco Park, which will host the All-Star game, his teammates could look very familiar. The Cubs are off to one of the best starts in baseball history and could trot out All-stars at several positions. This could quite possibly include their entire infield of Anthony Rizzo (1B), Ben Zobrist (2B), Kris Bryant (3B), Addison Russell (SS) along with outfielder Dexter Fowler. Not to be overlooked is fellow Cubs pitcher Jon Lester.

The Cubs should continue to be a team to watch during the second half of the season. For now, fans will likely get a good look at why they’re one of baseball’s best. And it starts with their pitching ace.

TEAMS: Baltimore Orioles (2010–2013); Chicago Cubs (2013–present)

POSITION: Starting pitcher NO.: 49

Checking in with KEVIN BURKHARDT

Net Picks

“Stranger Things,” www.netflix.com/title/80057281

Dropping Friday, this drama series stars Winona Ryder as a 1980s Indiana mother whose son vanishes into thin air under suspicious circumstances. Her subsequent investigation reveals a series of mysteries involving top-secret government experiments, supernatural forces and a mysterious little girl. Matthew Modine (“Full Metal Jacket”), Cara Buono (“Let Me In”) and David Harbour (“The Newsroom”) also star.

Like a lot of sportscasters, Kevin Burkhardt paid his dues doing things like freelancing and calling high-school sporting events. But his road to Fox and hosting its MLB pregame show took him to an unlikely stop: selling Chevrolets at a dealership in his native New Jersey.

It was 2003 and Burkhardt was having trouble finding regular work as a broadcaster, so he opened the Sunday paper’s jobs section and blindly put his finger on an ad, which turned out to be for auto sales. But what started out as a job selling new cars turned into an education in selling himself.

“I think the biggest lesson was you don’t get what you don’t ask for ...,” says the 42-year-old Bloomfield product, who on Tuesday, July 12, will host the pregame show for Fox’s coverage of the 2016 MLB All-Star Game from Petco Park in San Diego. “And I think sometimes you’re so worried, especially about hurting people’s feelings and stepping the wrong way or people thinking a certain image of you. And then it was basically ... what’s the worst that can happen if I call and say, ‘Hey listen, I think you should hire me. You need to watch my stuff’? And so I did that.

“So it was a really good life lesson and I learned about myself. I learned about asking for things I wanted. I learned about negotiating and just dealing with people. I mean, you don’t deal with people any more than that job, I don’t think. So I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

These days, Burkhardt looks at his duties at Fox, which also include calling play-by-play on NFL games in the fall, as his dream job, his reward for persistence, perseverance and a little selling of himself.

“To think that right now I get to sit at the World Series and host shows and get to call these high-end NFL playoff games, it’s still a pinch-me thing,” he says. “... This is always what I’ve wanted to do.”

“Full Movie Here,” www.youtube.com/ watch?vkqEvNds5rgI

It’s no secret that Hollywood has a serious gender discrimination problem, something New York City filmmakers Andrea Lee Christensen and Toni-Marie Gallardo took aim at with this hilarious new series in which famous male-oriented movies are reimagined with women as the leads. The first episode takes on “There Will Be Blood,” where a high-society vampire attends a party not realizing she needed to bring her own blood.

“Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru,” www.netflix. com/title/80102204

Dropping Friday, this Netflix original documentary takes viewers behind the scenes of author and world-renowned life coach Tony Robbins’ annual “Date With Destiny,” an intensive six-day, six-night seminar in which he pushes its 2,500 participants past their limits to examine their true identity, core emotions, intimate relationships and the driving force behind their actions. The film provides an unvarnished look at the controversial event, its attendees and Robbins himself.

“Jericho,” https:// acorn.tv/franchise/jericho

British series website Acorn comes forth with this new Western that stars Jessica Raine (“Call the Midwife”) as a widowed mother of two who is forced to start a new life in the rugged Yorkshire town of Jericho. Though she is able to find a new home, she must also provide lodging for the rowdy rail workers passing through, one of whom could be trouble. Clarke Peters (“The Wire”), Sophie Thompson (“Detectorists”) and Jeany Spark (“Wallander”) also star.

SUNDAY

7 p.m. on KOED

Dancing on the Edge

An engagement for the band on England’s BBC Radio, facilitated by the patronage of Lady Cremone (Jacqueline Bisset) and the Prince of Wales, could mean big things for the musicians’ future in “Episode 3.” Louis (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is alarmed to see Jessie’s (Angel Coulby) condition in the aftermath of an attack. Julian (Tom Hughes) receives a mysterious message from Masterson (John Goodman). Janet Montgomery, Matthew Goode and Anthony Head also star.

7:30 p.m. on KOKI

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Jake (Andy Samberg) may end up playing midwife at Thanksgiving when he watches over the pregnant wife of Terry (Terry Crews), who’s sent on a case with Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz), in “Ava.” The expectant mother’s water breaks, amping up the frenzy at the precinct that’s already been generated by an Internet outage. Holt (Andre Braugher) has an unexpected encounter. Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”) guest stars.

8 p.m. on AMC Preacher

The internal conflict that is quite literally threatening to tear Jesse (Dominic Cooper) apart drives him to dubious and infuriating actions that both endanger and alienate everyone closest to him in a new episode called “He Gone.” Meanwhile, in big picture terms, flashbacks finally reveal the true root of all the guilt this character feels. Ruth Negga, Joseph Gilgun, W. Earl Brown, Lucy Griffiths and Ian Colletti also star.

MONDAY

7 p.m. on KJRH American Ninja Warrior With this series being on an NBC Universal-owned network, it’s little surprise a new “Los Angeles Finals” episode

originates from the famed New York Street on the backlot at Universal Studios. The top 30 finalists from the Los Angeles Qualifier face challenges including the Salmon Ladder, the Wedge, the Helix Hang and the Invisible Ladder. For viewers, there may be extra fun in trying to identify buildings and which movies and television shows they’ve been used in.

7 p.m. on KOKI

So You Think You Can Dance

The competition shifts to its live (in the Eastern half of the country) phase with the new episode “The Next Generation: Top 10 Perform,” indicating how many contestants are left in the journey to be named the season’s champ. Each of the remaining contenders is paired with an All-Star to try to earn the approval of judges Paula Abdul, Jason Derulo and Nigel Lythgoe — and the votes of viewers. Cat Deeley continues as the host.

7 p.m. on ESPN

2016 Home Run Derby

This year’s Home Run Derby takes place at Petco Park in San Diego, where some of the game’s top power hitters will take aim at the stadium’s spacious dimensions. Last year in Cincinnati, then-Red Todd Frazier became the first player since Chicago Cub Ryne Sandberg in 1990 to win the Derby in his home park by outhomering Dodgers rookie Joc Pederson in the final round.

9 p.m. on KJRH

Running Wild With Bear Grylls

She’s faced the challenges of the dance floor (“Dancing With the Stars”), a live television musical (“Grease: Live”) and movie acting (“Footloose”), but Julianne Hough tackles a series of fresh tasks as the first celebrity to submit to the Grylls brand of outdoor adventure as this show starts its third season. She joins him in Africa, where they encounter an elephant pack, big cats and a snake. And for extra hurdles, there are steep cliffs and waterfalls.

9:01 p.m. on KTUL Mistresses

A surprising revelation by Alec (guest star Ed Quinn) has a major effect on Karen (Yunjin Kim) in the new episode “What Happens in Vegas.” April and Marc’s (Rochelle Aytes, Rob Mayes) disagreement over raising Lucy (guest star Corinne Massiah) threatens to have a lasting impact. Kate (Tabrett Bethell) is surprised by a new romantic interest’s connection to Joss and Harry (Jes Macallan, Brett Tucker) — who

have other concerns involving their impending marriage.

TUESDAY

7 p.m. on KOKI

2016 MLB All-Star Game

Baseball’s best — as determined by a fan vote — turn out at Petco Park in San Diego for the 2016 All-Star Game. The National League, which holds a 43-41-2 edge in All-Star play, lost to the American League in last year’s contest 6-3 at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. At this writing, expected starters included Anthony Rizzo of the Chicago Cubs, Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles and Bryce Harper of the Washington Nationals.

8 p.m. on TNT Animal Kingdom

Given how most of the young male members of this family make a living, you might think flunking a drug test could fall into the category of a minor sin, but when that happens to oldest son Pope (Shawn Hatosy), it’s a very big deal that leave Smurf (Ellen Barkin) fighting to hold her clan together in the new “Child Care.” Meanwhile, Baz (Scott Speedman) convinces his brothers to rob a house (again, arguably worse than that drug test thing) as part of his plan, and J (Finn Cole) faces a moral dilemma. Jake Weary also stars.

9 p.m. on AMC

Feed the Beast

In a new episode called “Tabula Rasa,” the desperately cashstrapped Dion (Jim Sturgess) confronts the bleak prospect of a beautiful restaurant with no customers and reluctantly decides to seek help from his former mentor. Meanwhile, Tommy (David Schwimmer) has a startling epiphany. Michael Gladis also stars.

WEDNESDAY

7 p.m. on KTUL

The 2016 ESPYs

A highlight of summer programming for many years, ESPN’s honors mark their second year on ABC — and their 24th year overall. John Cena hosts the event, saluting ath-

letes from various disciplines on particular accomplishments (best team, best moment, etc.), with many celebrities helping to deliver the tributes. Several of the awards are reserved for extraordinary achievements, including the Arthur Ashe Courage Award and the Jimmy V (Valvano) Perseverance Award.

8 p.m. on KOKI Wayward Pines

After one of the Abbies gets away, Theo and Hassler (Jason Patric, Tim Griffin) set out after the fugitive in the new episode “Pass Judgment.” Rebecca (Nimrat Kaur) has to decide whether to own up to her condition to a concerned Xander (Josh Helman). Information about Kerry (Kacey Rohl) floors Jason (Tom Stevens). Toby Jones continues his role as Pilchner. Djimon Hounsou and Hope Davis also star.

9 p.m. on FX Tyrant

In the new episode “Cockroach,” Sammy (Noah Silver) embarks on a high-risk relationship, while Barry (Adam Rayner) discovers his hold over Abuddin is tenuous at best. Ihab (Alexander Karim) finds an outlet for his hunger to get revenge. Molly (Jennifer Finnigan) makes what is supposed to be a routine visit to a military hospital, but things go badly awry, pointing toward terrible consequences for the future of the country. Fares Fares also stars.

9:01 p.m. on USA Mr. Robot

Arguably the most strikingly original TV show of 2015, this Golden Globe- and Peabody Award-winning drama introduced viewers to Elliot (Rami Malek), a brilliant but unstable and drug-addicted computer Hacker who fell in with a band of techno-anarchists in Season 1. In the season finale, Elliot made the head-spinning discovery that his mentor, played by Christian Slater, apparently exists only in Elliot’s mind. Look for that relationship to be further explored in Season 2, which begins tonight with two back-to-back episodes.

THURSDAY

7 p.m. on KTUL BattleBots

Vernon Davis, who was a member of the Denver Broncos when they won Super Bowl 50, is a guest judge for the new episode “Shake, Battle, and Roll: The Round of 32 Part 2,” as the 32 teams still in the competition put their robots up to do the indicated battling. The heat is on the judges, who also include Fon Davis and

Jessica Chobot, since they have to determine a winner if there’s no knockout in one of the three-minute bouts. Samantha Ponder is the host.

8 p.m. on KOKI Home Free

Even if you think you’ve mastered something, others’ expectations also can move to a new level — which is what the contestants find in the new episode “Push the Limits.” Host Mike Holmes makes more demands on them as the home construction continues, adding to the challenge of performing well enough to remain in the competition. Tim Tebow is the co-host.

9 p.m. on KJRH Aquarius

Manson (Gethin Anthony) and his followers receive something welcome and something not in the new episode “Piggies.” Hodiak’s (David Duchovny) pursuit of a homicide clue leads him to hurdles that force him to revise his approach. A shootout between radicals and police officers impacts the marriage of Shafe and Kristin (Grey Damon, Milauna Jackson). Grace (Michela McManus) tries to steer Emma’s (Emma Dumont) future. Claire Holt also stars.

FRIDAY

8 p.m. on SYFY Killjoys

When was the last time our team of edgy young heroes was dispatched on a mission that didn’t go wrong? That certainly doesn’t seem to be in the cards for “Shaft,” a new episode that sees Dutch, John, D’avin (Hannah John-Kamen, Aaron Ashmore, Luke Macfarlane) and their pals struggling to adjust to unexpected complications during a rescue mission to the Badlands, where they run into an unforeseen enemy hiding in a supposedly abandoned mine.

9 p.m. on FOOD Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives

A multi-generational family eatery in Los Angeles brings in the authentic flavors of New Orleans with such customer fa-

vorites as gumbo and etouffee in the new episode “Creole, Cold Cuts and Crepes.” In Minneapolis, Guy Fieri samples sandwiches stacked with vegan turkey, vegan cheese and Italian meat-free “meats,” then moves on to Maui, Hawaii, for a visit to a red-hot noodle spot that specializes in ramen and totally off-the-chain Vietnamese crepes.

9 p.m. on SYFY Dark Matter

If there’s one thing the characters on this show should have learned by now, it’s that trying to fly under the radar and keep a low profile almost never works for them. Sure enough, a new episode called “I’ve Seen the Other Side of You” finds the crew trying to lay low on the Raza, but an insidious computer glitch unexpectedly causes them to turn against one another. Marc Bendavid, Jodelle Ferland, Melissa O’Neil and Anthony Lemke star.

SATURDAY

7 a.m. on NBCSN 2016 Tour de France

Sprinters who conserved themselves during yesterday’s time trial will likely be on the attack today on the 208.5-km route from Montélimar to Villars-lesDombes Parc des Oiseaux in Stage 14 of the 2016 Tour de France. Of particular concern are the strong head winds riders could encounter in the final straight, which has been known to blunt any breakaway attempts.

8 p.m. on AMC Hell on Wheels

The historical drama reaches its penultimate episode, “Railroad Men,” as the race to finish the transcontinental railroad project comes down to a matter of inches to decide the winner. The tight competition compels everyone to contemplate what exactly reaching the end of the line will mean, both on terms of their present and the longterm future that looms ahead of them. Anson Mount and Colm Meaney star.

Late Night with Seth Meyers

Today is the one-year anniversary of Donald Trump’s announcement that he would run for president. It’s hard to believe it was only one year ago that Democrats were worried about Jeb Bush.

A Georgia man is facing charges after he tried to enter a Waffle House completely naked. Ugh. Can you imagine? Walking into a Waffle House barefoot?

In a new poll, 35% of Americans say they think Donald Trump will be elected president in November. They also said, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to finish packing.”

The Tonight Show

Starring Jimmy Fallon

Mark Zuckerberg is celebrating his first Father’s Day this Sunday. Mark can be the one dad who’s actually excited to get a boring sweatshirt and a mousepad.

Some male celebrities, like Kanye West and Justin Bieber, are wearing ripped jeans that cost up to $900. Or as dads with only one old pair of jeans put it, “Well, look who’s just as cool as Kanye Bieber.”

A naked restaurant is opening in Japan next month, but apparently they’re banning customers who

are overweight, over 60-yearsold, or have tattoos. They said the last thing they want at their naked restaurant is a bunch of weirdos.

The Late Show With Stephen Colbert

Last night, the last primary was held in Washington, D.C. The primaries being over reminds me what my brother used to say when I was a kid: “I’m going to keep punching you in the face but it will feel so good when it’s over.”

The Late Late Show With James Corden

Microsoft has purchased a networking website LinkedIn for $26.2 billion. For those of you who don’t know, LinkedIn is a website that helps you find a job. Although, I guess none of you know since you are watching a TV show in the middle of the night on a Thursday. So you probably don’t have a job.

Jimmy Kimmel Live

The DNC accused Russian hackers of stealing its opposition research on Trump, and Trump is accusing the DNC of leaking it. Accusing the other party of leaking it is like accusing McDonald’s of leaking McNuggets.

Trump said much of the information is false. And if people want to read hundreds of pages of false information about him, they should go to his Twitter page where he writes it himself.

Conan O’Brien

Donald Trump says, if elected, he is willing to “accept” a visit by Kim Jong Un. Kim Jong Un said, “No, thanks, that guy’s crazy.”

One year ago today, Donald Trump announced he was running for president as he rode down an escalator. And our country’s been going down that escalator ever since.
