“I love my countr y and I am a very patriotic person,” the “Road Less Traveled” singer states. “Every year for the Fourth, my boyfriend and I dress up and tr y to one-up our outfits from the year before, so for us to be there (in Washington) for the Fourth of July will be crazy. Though I will not be performing in a crazy outfit.”

On “Celebrity Family Feud” as well as syndicated weekday “Family Feud,” you often get opinionated about the answers the contestants give. Did you ever have doubts about doing that?

It’s ver y natural for me, but it’s kind of new people if they haven’t seen it. When you’re game-show host, you’re not supposed to react or be partisan in any way; you can’t show favoritism toward one side or the other or judgmental. Well, I’m all of that.

I judge and comment on the answers and an answer’s ridiculous. And I think what’s made “Family Feud” successful is that I was the first who really said what I thought people watching at home were thinking.

You have so much else going on, including your syndicated weekday talk show other primetime shows – “Little Big Shots,” “Showtime at the Apollo,” etc. – does production of “Celebrity Family Feud” into your schedule comfortably?

No! It’s not comfortable at all, but that’s the about success. If you want to be successful, going to have to operate outside your comfor zone. I understand that, so what I’ve learned to do is to get comfortable being uncomfortable.

It’s uncomfortable taping six days a week, and sometimes seven, being “on” all the time. I’m

A: It was “Miss Match,” an NBC comedy-drama that aired in the fall of 2003. The “Clueless” star played an attorney who became a matchmaker ... though, in the tradition of such tales, her own love life was nothing to write home about. Lake Bell, James Roday (“Psych”), Nathan Fillion (“Castle’) and Ryan O’Neal also were in the cast of the show, whose producers included ”Sex and the City“ mentor Darren Star

At this writing, initial conversations were being had between ABC and production company Carsey-Werner about continuing the stor y of the Conners with the other cast members. One point to be resolved was whether Roseanne Barr would profit from such a show, even without her presence, since she was credited as the partial creator of the relaunch (“based on a character created by ”) that was canceled after her now-infamous tweet that ultimately brought the high-rated “Roseanne” to an end.

One possibility being explored was renaming the central family might seem trivial on the surface, but it has a lot to do with idea ownership. A new version reportedly would be centered on the character Darlene, played by Sara Gilbert, who had a lot to do with the second coming of “Roseanne” after she posed the motion of a revival to receptive fellow star John Goodman when he appeared with her on CBS’ “The Talk.”

Haggis, elk hear t on the menu in Season 12 of ‘Bizarre Foods’

Probably one of the most misunderstood traditional dishes is haggis.

Originating in Scotland around 500 years ago, it’s made from ground sheep heart, lungs and liver, mixed with oats, suet, onions and various spices and cooked in the animal’s stomach.

The description of it makes many Americans recoil in horror but the taste is quite similar to meatloaf And probably a whole lot better for you than hot dogs, another comestible made from animal byproduct.

One of the stops for Andrew Zimmern in Season 12 of his Tuesday Travel Channel series “Bizarre Foods” takes him to Stirling, Scotland, to try haggis made from deer, which he found more to his liking than the mutton version.

“It’s got a milder flavor,” he says. “Mutton haggis has a very distinct barnyard-y flavor that some people absolutely love and adore and others are like, ‘Wow, that’s a little too barnyard-y for me.’ But the deer version is so excellent, and when it’s done right with pinhead oats, especially pinhead oats that are toasted before they’re mixed with the meat and liquid and put into the stomach, is such an amazing product.”

The new season, which gets underway July 3, also takes the host, restaurateur, chef and author to locations here and abroad to check out the Camino de Santiago trail in Spain; the moonshine highway in North Carolina; Bastogne, Belgium, one of the sites of the Battle of the Bulge during World War II; and Hawaii, to hunt ram.

In Tuesday’s season opener, Zimmern rides the last 200 miles of the Pony Express in California and dines on boiled elk heart, a dish he says is best when slowcooked.

“Hearts are kind of like clams,” he explains. “You know, you either fly a clam through a warm kitchen – in other words cook it just to the point of being done – or you chop it up and cook it for a long, long time like in a chowder where it can become soft and tender once again. It’s the same thing with heart. If you cook it well done, it’s tough and dry. If you cut it and braise it for a long time, it tends to fall apart like pot roast and is quite delicious.”

“I’m actually finally getting around to Jim Comey’s book (‘A Higher Loyalty’). I’m almost finished with it.”

What did you have for dinner last night?

“I had a hamachi crudo, I had a grilled ribeye with sunchokes and local asparagus and ramps, and for dessert a rhubarb clafoutis. It was dynamite.”

When was your last vacation, where and why? “I just took off five days and went to Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, and puttered around the lake in a boat with my son. ”

Host Andrew Zimmern follows some of the most iconic routes in history in Season 20 of his hit culinary series. In the season premiere, Zimmern rides the last 200 miles of the old Pony Express Trail, to its endpoint in Sacramento, Calif.
