People can savor many cultures Saturday at Latin Community of Muskogee’s Cinco de Mayo Festival.
Victor Lezama, an organizer, said the festival seeks to reach beyond cultural lines.
“The overall goal is to share our heritage, from Puerto Rican, Mexican, Dominican, Cuban,” Lezama said. “We have such a huge variety of Latin people here in Muskogee. This is a way to celebrate our foods, music and dance in one glorious event.”

The Tulsa Mexican band Los Nuevos Elegidos will perform at the Cinco de Mayo Festival on Saturday at Love-Hatbox Sports Complex.
The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday at Love-Hatbox Sports Complex. It will feature live music, Zumba and Salsa instruction, a soccer tournament, a car show, plus all sorts of foods.
Lezama said each Latin culture has its own features.
“For example, Zumba dancing is more Dominican, islands,” he said. “Salsa is more Puerto Rican, Mexican. Each variety has its

The Hole in the Wall band gets together every Friday night to play a little country and a little rock ‘n’ roll at the Tahlequah Senior Citizens Center. Band members, left to right, are David Filden on guitar, Mel Buckner on drums and Jim Forst on lead vocals.

By Dana Eversole Press correspondent
The atmosphere was light, the music was good and the smiles were contagious at the Tahlequah Senior Citizens Center’s dance.
Jim Forst has been singing and playing with his Hole in the Wall Band for more than 15 years at the Center. He said band members have come and gone, but the fun is still there, along with plenty of dancers.
“I like the people who come to dance,” he said. “I like the atmosphere. It is like
WHAT: Tahlequah Senior Citizens Center’s dance. WHERE: Tahlequah Senior Citizens Center, 230 E. First St. WHEN: Dancing starts at 7 p.m. Fridays and
a family get-together every Friday night.”
Dancing starts at 7 p.m. Fridays, but many individuals get there around 6 p.m. to select a table for their friends and listen to the band warm up. Around 8:30
concludes at 10 p.m., with a break at 8:30 for potluck supper.
COST: $2.50 per person. INFORMATION: (918) 456-0792.
p.m., the band takes a break and everyone lines up for a potluck supper. Dancing begins 30 minutes later and continues until 10 p.m. There are 50 to 70 people every Friday night, organizers said.
“People bring in different dishes, and when the band breaks everyone eats,” said Waunita Duvall.
Duvall, 75, has been dancing about eight months, and the Center is not far from her house. She said she has always liked to dance and while attending an alumni banquet at Sequoyah High School the committee reinstated dancing, so she started dancing.
“I love rock ‘n’ roll music,” she said. “I love the beat, and I love to dance fast.”
The Center sees a lot of regulars every Friday night
like Ferrel Fogleman, who travels the state looking for good dance venues. Fogleman, 76, has been dancing for 10 years.
When he was 28, Fogleman was in a motorcycle accident and was paralyzed all over and he could not talk. He was in the hospital for three years.
“I used to watch the people pass by my room and wondered ‘where are they going?’” “I finally got up and dragged myself to see what was going on,” Fogelman said. What he found was an

exercise room. His doctors said no, but that did not stop him. He began working his body.
“When I was released from the hospital, my wife came and got me and brought me to Oklahoma and dumped me at my parents,” Fogelman said.
“I started walking seven days a week, three miles a day in the rain or snow dragging my right leg with me. At the age of 66 I started dancing.”
He said this changed his life.
“My doctor said walking and dancing were the best things I could do,” he said. “I felt good and then I felt better and better and the doctor told me to keep this up.”
Fogelman dances three to four times a week and said he has met many good friends through his dancing.

“I love to waltz and swing dance,” Fogelman said. “There is a lot of dancing here in Tahlequah. The faster, the better.”
Fogelman collects disability and also manages land and cattle. His met his dance partner and friend Elsie Benson, 81, while attending a dance.
“I have been dancing for 17 years,” said Benson. “I lost my husband, and my sister-in-law kept after me to go with her. I had dance partner, but he passed away. I met Ferrel two years ago, and he danced with me and kept pushing me and we have been dancing ever since.”
Benson said she likes to dance because of the many people she meets, and she likes to keep up with the rhythm and beat of the music.

“I dance the whole time I am at a dance,” she said. “This keeps us young, busy and active.”
Benson also keeps busy with her rent houses, five children and her five grandchildren.
She does alterations for people and has sewn creases in Fogelman’s jeans.
“He like to wear a sparkly belt to every dance,” she said. “He wears a different one every week. He has strong determination to have a better life. When his wife divorced him, he was feeling sorry for himself, but he got up and has been moving ever since.”
Duvall said there are always more women than men with the ratio about 5-to-1. Women will dance with each other on a fast song or line up and do line dancing.
The waterfall is popular at the Center. Men and women line up on opposite sides of the room and meet up and dance once around the room before getting back in line. This way, everyone gets to dance with multiple partners.
Leonard West, 88, retired 30 tears ago as a power lineman or the Grand River Dam Authority. He and his wife danced before she died.
“This is good exercise,” West said. “I like to dance to Bob Wills music.”
Elizabeth Kelly, 93, drives to the dances in Tahlequah every Friday night from Siloam Springs, Ark.
“I love to dance,” Kelly said. “Dancing is my everything.”

own spin, whether it’s a dance or a dish.”
Latin Community President Kenneth Claypool said the festival will feature taco food trucks from Tahlequah and Tulsa. Snow King, a snack hut on Gibson Street, will offer Mexican sodas and other specialties.
Maricruz Yahuitl of Snow King said specialties served at the festival include corn on the cob, corn in a cup, fresh mangoes, strawberries and cream, Mexican chips and fruit cups.
“The fruit cups feature watermelon, cantaloupe, cucumbers, and jicama, a traditional Mexican fruit,” Yahuitl said. “People like to put salt, chili powder and chamoy in it.
Chamoy is a sweet chili sauce.”
Henry Gonzalez will prepare and sell tamales.

Musical groups include Mariachi Tulsa and such Mexican groups as Los Nuevos Elegidos and Orquesta D’Calle.
Claypool said the festival won’t be limited to Latin foods and music.
“The festival isn’t just for Latin people,” he said. “We want to get the Latin culture to the people.”
Claypool said the festival also will feature area favorites such as Mama Tig’s Pizza, Brooks barbecue and Deb’s pineapple
whip. Blues singer Harley Hamm and guitarist Ahna Jennings will perform.
“The festival is for everyone — Latin to Salsa, rock, hip-hop, rhythm and blues — something for everyone,” Claypool said.
The festival begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with a soccer tournament, he said.
Claypool said six teams have signed up so far for the tournament.
The rest of the festivities begin

at noon. Other festivities include a petting zoo, a car show and motorcycle stunts. There also will be inflatable attractions.
Lezama said organizers want to be inclusive.
“We wanted to make it family friendly and community friendly,” Lezama said. “And to make it community friendly, we wanted to include different bands.”

“FIFTY SHADES DARKER”
Anyone who knows E.L. James’ novels is aware the relationship of Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey didn’t end with “Fifty Shades of Grey,” thus this James Foley-directed sequel that returns Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan to the roles. The story reflects what happened before and after “Ana” became a part of Grey’s world, with Kim Basinger as a woman who had much to do with his being who he is – the prelude to a big reversal of interpersonal significance to each other for the couple. Marcia Gay Harden, Luke Grimes, Eloise Mumford and Rita Ora also reprise their roles from the first film, with Bella Heathcote and Eric Johnson (“Rookie Blue”) in the cast as well. The screenplay is by Niall Leonard, author James’ husband. ››› (R and unrated versions: AS, N, P) (Also on Blu-ray and On Demand)
“ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK: SEASON FOUR”
Life certainly doesn’t get any easier for Piper (Taylor Schilling), who finds herself in very direct peril from other Litchfield inmates, in this round of the seriocomic and much-praised – and often quite violent – Netflix series developed and executiveproduced by Jenji Kohan. A new chief of the guards is a factor in Maureen’s (Emily Althaus) amped-up desire to escape, and the populations of new inmates and veterans are integrating, stirring new tensions on top of those already very present. Laverne Cox, Laura Prepon, Blair Brown, Kate Mulgrew and Lori Petty are among others continuing their roles. Season 5 of the show begins streaming in June. DVD extras: “making-of” documentary; cast and crew commentaries; outtakes. ››› (Not rated: AS, P, V) (Also on Blu-ray)

expecting another “Sex and the City” is in for a surprise. In what’s ostensibly a comedy but also has considerable drama, Parker and Thomas Haden Church (“Sideways”) play a couple who – as the title indicates –are in the process of ending their marriage. With the time that a weekly show allows, the effects of their breakup on others around them also are explored, with Molly Shannon, Talia Balsam and actor-playwright Tracy Letts (“Superior Donuts”) also in the cast. The original 1988 movie directed by Garry Marshall remains so popular, many of its fans likely feel it doesn’t need a remake ... but Lifetime went ahead with this recent and reasonably affecting one anyway, casting Idina Menzel and Nia Long in the earlier Bette Midler and Barbara Hershey parts as dissimilar women – a singer and a lawyer – whose lifelong friendship endures its share of hurdles. Given Menzel’s “Frozen” and “Wicked” musical fame, it should come as
little surprise that she belts out the ballad this story is linked to forever, “Wind Beneath My Wings.” ››› (Not rated: AS, P)
“THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO: THE COMPLETE SERIES”
Producer Quinn Martin built his television dynasty on crime shows, and among the most successful was this 1970s ABC drama that teamed someone who already was an Oscar winner with someone who would be: Karl Malden as veteran cop Mike Stone, and Michael Douglas as relative rookie Steve Keller. Robert Wagner helped launch the series by appearing in its pilot episode, and later guests included such then-future stars as Nick Nolte, Tom Selleck and John Ritter. Douglas stayed until the fifth and final season, when he left to pursue his movie career and was succeeded (as a different character) by Richard Hatch. Darleen Carr
made recurring appearances as Stone’s daughter. ››› (Not rated: AS, V)
“MANNIX: THE COMPLETE SERIES”
In an age when superspies such as James Bond and Matt Helm were using all sorts of gadgets to get the job done on the big screen, Joe Mannix was taking care of business simply by using the private-eye basics on television. The recently deceased Mike Connors was a major home-screen star of the 1960s and 1970s in this CBS adventure show (created by “Columbo” mentors Richard Levinson and William Link), which used computers as an investigative element early on, but largely stressed Mannix’s own know-how – not to mention the punches he frequently took from enemies – as he solved a wide variety of mysteries over the program’s eight-season life. ›››

“The Red Shoes” (1948) The timeless battle between love and career gets a workout in this Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale about a young ballet dancer’s (Moira Shearer) pursuit of becoming a prima ballerina. Shearer took her share of bumps and bruises making this film, but it also gained her a husband, as screenwriter Ludovic Kennedy became smitten with her after watching it.
“Singin’ in the Rain” (1952) Catchy tunes and skillful hoofing mark this superb musical that stars Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor, about a silent film company making the difficult transition to “talkies.” No surprise it’s considered in many corners to be one of the greatest musicals of all time.
“Saturday Night Fever” (1977) Known at the time primarily as miscreant teen Vinnie Barbarino on the sitcom “Welcome Back, Kotter,” John Travolta surprised many with his stylish moves in this excellent drama about a Brooklyn teen whose goal in life is to be king of the disco dance floor. For better or worse, this
film became the face of the late-1970s disco craze.
“Flashdance” (1983) Pittsburgh steelworker by day, stripper by night, Alex (Jennifer Beals in a breakthrough role) hopes one day to be a ballet dancer, a goal she pursues throughout this 1980s classic. Heavy on nifty dance moves but light on plot, the film is famous for such cheesy lines as “take your passion and make it happen” and the song “What a Feeling.”
“Footloose” (1984) Kevin Bacon showed some fancy footwork in this solid drama about a city teen who brings rock music and dance to a small Midwestern town where both are illegal. But it wasn’t all him. Five body doubles had to be used in one memorable dance scene where he leaped and flipped in an abandoned warehouse.
“Dirty Dancing” (1987) The chemistry was undeniable between guest Baby (Jennifer Grey) and dance instructor Johnny (Patrick Swayze) in this swinging romancer set at a 1960s Catskills resort and featured the nimble strutting of

Swayze, catchy tunes (including the closer “The Time of My Life”) and the signature line “nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
“Center Stage” (2000) Love triangles, backstabbing, eating disorders – this melodrama about students trying to make it in the grueling world of dance at New York’s American Ballet Academy has it all, including some pretty flashy moves by ballet-trained Zoe Saldana, among others.
“Step Up” (2006) Almost as fun as watching the dancing in this drama about a teen Baltimore troublemaker who falls for the ballet dancer he helps in training, was watching the actors playing them, Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, fall for each other in real life, which was evident throughout. They married three years later.
“Black Swan” (2010) Natalie Portman took home a well-deserved best actress Oscar for her portrayal of a ballerina who loses her mind after winning the lead in “Swan Lake.”

I f “Anne of Green Gables” is a story worth re-reading, it’s also one that producers clearly believe is worth retelling on film ... again and again.
Consider that just six months after a PBS movie took the beloved saga by Lucy Maud Montgomery out for another screen spin, a Netflix series is now doing so, too. Set to begin streaming Friday, May 12, “Anne With an E” – adapted by Emmy-winning coexecutive producer Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad”) – casts IrishCanadian actress Amybeth McNulty as the plucky orphan.
Arriving in late-19thcentury Prince Edward Island, Anne Shirley isn’t the adoptee who’s expected by aged siblings Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (Geraldine James, R.H. Thomson). Still, she soon wins them and their whole community over with her natural spirit.
“I received the book for my ninth birthday from my mum,” the pleasant McNulty (who’s in her mid-teens now) recalls of her own history with the tale, adding that she didn’t envision then that she’d be playing Anne one day, and relatively soon. “Oh, no, not at all,” she confirms. “I was and still am a bookworm, definitely, so it was kind of another book in passing that I just really enjoyed. There wasn’t too much (acting-related) thinking going into it.”
Any casting call for a new “Anne of Green Gables” inherently draws a big field of hopefuls for the main
part. “I was just so honored to even be thought of for the role, for a little girl from Ireland,” says McNulty, whose biggest previous role internationally was as a younger incarnation of the genetically engineered title character in the sci-fi movie “Morgan” last year. “I met some of the other girls (who auditioned to play Anne), and they were all so lovely, it was really nice that it didn’t feel too competition-y. We were all rooting for each other.”
Once she was in front of the cameras, which involved location filming in Prince Edward Island, McNulty felt the responsibility of playing Anne strongly. “At first, when I knew I had the part, I was a bit overwhelmed,” she confirms. “I was thinking, ‘OK, how am I going to play it?’ I never

saw any other adaptations of it, and I was happy that it was just coming from me and Moira. That really took the pressure off.”
Also a stage performer with “The Sound of Music,” “Annie” and “Les Miserables” among her credits, McNulty appreciates that “Anne With an E” (which is just wrapping up its run in the story’s native Canada) deals with themes still relevant today ... among them, prejudice, bullying and equality.
“We’re definitely going into more of the depth of L.M. Montgomery’s writing,” she reflects, “which I think will be really interesting for viewers who will see things that they didn’t expect. They’ll maybe see those things for the first time, or in a new light.”

If there is one thing that Rhea Seehorn loves about being an actor, it’s the ability to tell a story.
“I come from pretty great storytellers in my family because they’re from the South ...,” says the 44-year-old Virginia Beach native, who stars as Albuquerque lawyer and girlfriend of title character Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) Kim Wexler on AMC’s Monday drama “Better Call Saul.” “Anything that was about taking people on a journey and realizing that whether something was outlandishly science fiction or super-realistic drama or old black-and-white sitcoms that I would watch on Nick at Night reruns, it was still about transporting you and making you think about things differently, forcing you to walk in other people’s footsteps.
“And I was just obsessed with that idea and wondering where does Mary Tyler Moore go after she leaves that room, where is she walking and what the rest of her life is like.”
realized woman that has the same palette to choose from as the male characters that you see on television. And I would be remiss to not say that this is one of my favorite roles that I’ve ever had in 20 years.
“So having Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould tell you that you’re the right person to help tell their story is something that – I mean, I cried in the middle of the street the day I got the phone call,” she says, laughing.

But she’s still pinching herself over working on “Saul.”

It’s such a simple idea, it’s hard to believe no one thought of it before.
Take two teams of chefs and turn them loose in a farmers’ market to shop for the freshest ingredients, which they then turn into a gourmet meal to be served to the show’s judges – random market-goers. The winning tandem takes home a $5,000 prize. That’s the premise of the recently premiered Cooking Channel competition series “Farmers’ Market Flip,” airing Thursdays. And its host, Jeff Mahin, thinks setting a culinary competition show amid the energy of a farmers’ market is a stroke of genius.
“It touches on so many great things,” the Los Angeles-based chef, restaurateur and cyclist explains. “You know, you’re outside, you’re at this market and you’re intermingling with people who are going there just to buy food for the week, for the day, and also restaurateurs and chefs. It’s such a great epicenter of culinary creativity.”
For any chef, a visit to the local farmers’ market is a required part of the job. Not only do they find the highest quality meats, fruits and vegetables there, they can also meet the people who produced them and can tell them all about it. They’ll learn where the merchandise came from and whether it is at its peak, and also get a feel for who regularly has the best wares. For this, developing relationships with the farmers is critical.
“All the farmers want to be able to educate,” Mahin says, “so we saw a lot of the chefs (on the show) using ingredients they’ve never used before and taking risks because the farmers said, ‘Hey, this is amazing.’ They were able to taste it right away and then that inspired them to go a different direction or a totally new direction.”

“I’m a cycling coach and I’m reading ‘Finding Flow.’ It’s a really interesting book and the (author, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi) ... he’s sort of the father of the word ‘flow.’ And as I get older and I realize this application with cooking, this idea with flow is really synonymous with cooking in a kitchen or just life in general. In at least one respect, 1967 was a very good year, indeed. Some of the most classic films of that decade, and of all of screen history, were released in that 12-month period. On two consecutive Fridays, May 12 and 19, Turner Classic Movies and host Ben Mankiewicz present 50th-anniversary telecasts of several of 1967’s best ... and even the most casual film fan will recognize them as attractions that have stood the test of time.
The May 12 lineup starts with “The Graduate” – which had a two-day theatrical re-release at the end of April as part of TCM’s “Big Screen Classics” series – and continues with two Sidney Poitier features, “In the Heat of the Night” (which launched last month’s TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood) and “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner.” The war classic “The Dirty Dozen” and Mel Brooks’ comedy “The Producers” round out that first evening.
Then, the May 19 half of the tribute opens with Paul Newman’s “Cool Hand Luke,” followed by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway as gangsters “Bonnie and Clyde” and Lee Marvin in the gritty revenge drama “Point Blank.” Star turns by two actresses, Catherine Deneuve in Luis Bunuel’s “Belle de Jour” and Audrey Hepburn in “Wait Until Dark,” wrap up the salute to ’67.
“It’s terrific,” Mankiewicz says of gathering so many films that he’s introduced separately on TCM into one year-representing collection. “It’s one thing to say it’s the 50th anniversary of ‘The

Netflix takes a stab at Lucy Maud Montgomery’s oft-told story “Anne of Green Gables” with this series that drops Friday and stars Irish-Canadian actress Amybeth McNulty in the title role of the orphan whose plucky spirit wins over her adopted family and the community in her 1890s Prince Edward Island, Canada, town. Graduate’ or ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ or ‘Bonnie and Clyde,’ and another thing to realize what a significant, seminal year that was in American cinema.”
Mankiewicz is particularly pleased to include “In the Heat of the Night,” given the racially themed murder mystery’s relevance to the recent Classic Film Festival.
“That was just a thrilling, really exciting night,” he recalls, “to be backstage with (producer) Walter Mirisch, (director) Norman Jewison, Sidney Poitier, (co-star) Lee Grant and (composer) Quincy Jones. You’re running around, taking photos, worrying about what you’re going to say – and you hope you get a moment of, ‘Holy moly!’ It was great ... and emotional, too. They knew it was special, and it was an honor to be a part of it.”
Similarly, Mankiewicz is glad to introduce “Bonnie and Clyde” again, having conducted a lengthy and recently televised interview with Dunaway at last year’s Classic Film Festival.
“From 1967 to 1976, starting with – for her sake – ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ and ending with ‘Network,’ I think there’s no more important 10 years in the history of movies, at least in America,” Mankiewicz says. “There are plenty of other significant 10-year periods, but to me, those are the best movies and the most exciting time. And she’s on both ends of it, and that’s not an accident. She played a critical role in making that era matter.”

“Get Me Roger Stone,” www.netflix.com/title/80114666
Though Donald Trump’s election as the 45th president came as a surprise to just about everyone, one man who wasn’t shocked was his long-time friend, confidant and adviser Roger Stone. This documentary profiles the veteran political operative and his influence on the history of the Republican Party and, indeed, the nation from the 1970s and Watergate through the present. Drops Friday.

The Chicago Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship run was certainly a team effort orchestrated by manager Joe Maddon. But signing veteran and switch-hitting second baseman Ben Zobrist may have been the icing on the cake, in terms of what the Cubs needed to advance in the playoffs. Zobrist and the Cubs will host the New York Yankees to close out an interleague series Sunday, May 7 on ESPN.
Zobrist came to the Cubs and reunited with Maddon, his former manager, prior to the 2016 season bringing a wealth of playoff experience. He spent nine seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays under Maddon which included a trip to the World Series in 2008 and playoff appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2013. Tampa basically sold the farm after the 2014 season, with Maddon heading for Chicago and Zobrist being traded to Oakland. After suffering an early-season injury in 2015, Ben Zobrist was again traded, this time to the eventual World Series Champion Kansas City Royals where he made a significant impact.
A free agent after the 2015 season, Zobrist signed a fouryear deal with the Cubs and had yet another productive season – continuing, as he has throughout his career, to be a solid defensive player and among the league leaders in on-base-percentage; certainly one of baseball’s more bluecollar statistics. His efforts led to a third All-Star Game appearance and a World Series MVP award. Not bad for a player approaching his 36th birthday and finding himself as a role-player on a team that can trot out all-stars at several positions.

THURSDAY
7:30 p.m. on KJRH Superstore
A cloud of a different kind — and a really, really big one — impacts Cloud 9 and its workers as the show’s second season ends with “Tornado.” From that title, it’s easy to anticipate what weather to expect, though it’s also stormy inside the store as Glenn (Mark McKinney) has to make decisions on layoffs and Jonah (Ben Feldman) has loose ends to tie up with Amy (America Ferrera). Mateo (Nico Santos) makes a surprising move to try to save his job.
FRIDAY
8 p.m. on KQCW Reign
Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) launches her biggest offensive against Mary (Adelaide Kane) to date in the new episode “Dead of Night,” staging a coup as Mary and Darnley (Will Kemp) debate how to overtake England. At the same time, Elizabeth grapples with personal concerns involving Gideon (Ben Geurens).
SATURDAY

Saturday Night Live
Though Chris Pine currently is promoting his role as Steve Trevor in the upcoming “Wonder Woman” movie, don’t be surprised if a “Star Trek”themed sketch is part of the humor in his debut as a guest host of this program. It’s one of the show’s telecasts to be aired live in every time zone, so West Coast viewers will see what happens exactly when it occurs on the East Coast.
SUNDAY
8 p.m. on KTUL
The Last 100 Days of Diana
Martin Bashir, the former “Nightline” co-anchor who conducted a very personal interview with Princess Diana two years before her 1997 death, is the host of this new special focusing on the last summer of her life. The concentration isn’t on the fatal car accident in a Paris tunnel, but rather on two post-divorce romances she had. Interviewees including Paul Burrell, who was Diana’s butler, offer insight into her mindset during that pre-tragedy period.
MONDAY
9 p.m. on KJRH The Wall
Before its full-fledged return in June, this competition series offers a new episode to get viewers reacquainted with it. As teammates respond to questions correctly or not, the cash value of the answer is added to or deducted from their winnings — signaled by balls colored green (for “right”) or red (for “wrong”). More than $12 million is available to the players in any given episode.
TUESDAY
7:30 p.m. on KTUL American Housewife
Tiffani Thiessen guest stars as a book editor who lends Greg (Diedrich Bader) a professional hand, then spends an evening out with him and Katie (Katy Mixon), in the new episode “Dude, Where’s My Napkin?”. Angela (Carly Hughes) isn’t happy about it, because of her own connection to the woman, and feels particularly betrayed by Katie.
WEDNESDAY
8 p.m. on KOTV Criminal Minds
Cast members including Paget Brewster have proven that no one necessarily is gone forever when they leave this show ... and someone else also confirms it as the drama ends its 12th season with “Red Light.” Founding co-star Shemar Moore, whose exit came as a surprise last year, returns as his alter ego Derek Morgan helps his former BAU colleagues — and those who have joined the team — pursue a lead on enemy Mr. Scratch. Jane Lynch reprises her guest role.

Picking your favorite episode from your favorite show is like being asked to appoint your favorite child. They each have their merits. They often have their own respective flaws. But we love them all the same.
So when the Screener staff sat down to pick out our collective five favorite episodes of HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” something rather surprising happened – we agreed. At least, for the most part.
“Blackwater,” “The Rains of Castamere” and “Mother’s Mercy,” in no particular order, rang out from the masses as consensus selections. Some fought for “Baelor,” while others suggested the “Battle of the Bastards” deserved a seat at the table.
We offer up the arguments from four different staff “Thrones” fans, each lobbying for their top-of-the-mountain, ultimate episode to sit on the proverbial Iron Throne of our list, as the greatest “Game of Thrones” episode of all time.
‘Blackwater’ Season 2, Episode 9
“Blackwater” accounts for a lot of firsts: It stays with a single location, King’s Landing; it set the tradition for every season’s ninth episode as a battle and setpiece; it all but ends the Baratheon/Lannister conflict; and never looking up from the fog of war, it celebrates Tyrion (Peter Dinklage)’s tactical skills. The city defends itself with a wildfire trap, a guerrilla takeover from under the city itself, and is finally secured with Tywin (Charles Dance)’s arrival.
It’s also the first, practically only, chance to see Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) as she really is: Neither engaging in shady contests of will with her kin, nor lying – to herself or others. “Blackwater” is a notable peek at the once and future Queen of all Westeros, as she simply (and drunkenly) explains herself, in an episode-length monologue that takes her from the Red Keep to the Iron Throne itself.
Executioner standing by to make sure nobody in the Keep ends up hostages or worse, Cersei’s getting ready for suicide and looking for a puppy to kick – but Sansa sits mesmerized, as Cersei explains everything from rape culture to the finer points of theology. Later, in the Great Hall, Cersei tells her youngest son his last bedtime story: The Lion cub, beset and abused by Stags and Wolves, who is ready to rule them all ... And beloved by his fierce mother.

Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen
Emilia Clarke as and Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister and Peter as Lannister
These add up to the truth about Cersei: Something only we will ever get to see. As Cersei prepares for death, it’s a rare glimpse from the inside: Bitter, hilarious and heartbreaking. “Blackwater” is loved for the battle, but it’s the nasty truths Cersei spills in the Red Keep – intimate, useful, abhorrent – that mark the true beginning of Sansa’s education, and set the tone for everything that follows.
- Jacob Clifton ‘Hardhome’
Season 5, Episode 8
Everyone knows that the final few episodes of “Game of Thrones” seasons are when stuff gets real, and “Hardhome” stayed true to pattern.
Season 5 was a spectacular letdown of a season, focusing on all the wrong things and somehow lacking the punch of previous years. By the time fans got to “Hardhome,” they’d pretty much given up on the season entirely. Then Jon Snow’s epic 30-minute battle scene with the White Walkers and wights collectively blew our minds and renewed our faith in “Game of Thrones” entirely.
We can still hear the “gasp!” heard round the world when we all realized Jon’s Valyrian steel sword could actually destroy White Walkers.
When you factor in Daenerys and Tyrion’s first, tense meeting – finally! – you’ve got a near perfect episode full of
action, suspense, and the telltale power struggles “Game of Thrones” is best known for.
- Lindsay MacDonald ‘Baelor’
Season 1, Episode 9
Everything changed.
Through the first eight episodes, we had seen guts and gore and plenty of drama, but it wasn’t until the righteous Eddard Stark found his head on the literal chopping block that non-book readers realized one very important lesson about HBO’s “Game of Thrones” – there were no sacred cows in GRRM’s mystical realm.
At this point in the inaugural season, Sean Bean was still by and large the main star in a cast of soon-to-be-household-names-just-not-yets. Certainly there would be a last second reprieve for the show’s leading man, the good leader of the North?
Nope. Down came the blade, off went his head and the tone for the series was etched in stone.
Not to be overlooked, “Baelor” was also the episode where Catelyn Stark brokered a fateful deal with Walder Frey, exchanging House Frey’s support in the Starks’ battle against the Lannisters, for Robb and Arya Stark’s eventual hands in marriage to Frey offspring. Of course, Robb would later marry Talisa Maegyr, angering Lord Frey and fueling the events that unfolded in Season 3, Episode 9’s “The Rains of Castamere” – aka, The Red Wedding.
- Eric Anderson
‘The Rains of Castamere’ Season 3, Episode 9
After getting tired of roaming the halls of Hogwarts, Argus Filch decided to head to the Riverlands where he became a dastardly king and lived in a castle. Then, he got very mad because his kid wasn’t able to marry a Stark, so he had a whole bunch of people killed, including Hermione Granger’s mother. Getting bored, yet again, with castles, magic and death, the man moved to New York City and changed his name to Abraham. He currently kills vampires for a living.
- Aaron Pruner (Disclaimer: In case you didn’t notice, Aaron doesn’t watch much ‘Game of Thrones’ but as a Harry Potter fan, you can imagine his surprise when we showed him The Red Wedding.) Answers:
