Car club hosts Cruise Night and car show

Vintage ‘Vettes, street rods and muscle cars’ on display in downtown Muskogee

Your car can join vintage ‘Vettes, street rods and muscle cars’ during a Friday cruise through downtown Muskogee.

The Cruis’n Angels Car Club Downtown Cruise night runs 6 to 10 p.m. Friday along Broadway.

The cruise could be a preview of the 18th annual Cruis’n Angels & BancFirst Car Show, all day Saturday at the Phoenix Plaza parking lot.

Cruis’n Angels President Gary Thomson said people don’t need a fancy car to join Friday’s cruise.

“Jump right in,” Thomson said.

Cruisers meet on Broadway, go up 12th Street to Shawnee Bypass, then back on Main Street to Broadway. They then can hang out on Broadway, where there will be inflatable bounce houses,

Thomson is no stranger to cruising downtown Muskogee. He said he must have put in 100 miles a night cruising up and down Okmulgee Avenue while growing up.

He currently cruises in a 1972 El Camino, which he has had for 16 years.

parking lot, Second and Court streets. REGISTRATION: $20, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The red El Camino, with dual white racing stripes, has the sleek, broad hood of a Chevelle. It eases into a handy truck bed behind the one-seat cab.

Thomson said he has made a few modifications over the years. They include a new radio and more horsepower.

Award-winning Cherokee Village from the 1700s shares history

Village reflects Cherokee lifestyle and is replicated ‘as best as it can be’ from that era

PARK HILL — Visitors this summer to the Cherokee Heritage Center will find themselves back in time when they visit the Diligwa, the award-winning Cherokee Village from the 1700s.

“The village is busy all year long, but the summer visitors come and enjoy what it offers and spend more time outdoors because of the nice weather,” said Tonia Weavel, interim executive

director of the Cherokee Heritage Center.

Weavel said the village reflects Cherokee lifestyle from the early 1700s and is replicated as best as it can be from that era.

“The village reflects the structures from that period, and the guided tours are given by Cherokee citizens. The village opened in 2013.

“The outdoor living exhibit provides guests with an enhanced experience of authentic Cherokee life and history,” Weavel said. “Dilig-

wa is a name derivative of Tellico, a village in the east that was once the principal Cherokee town and is now underwater. Tellico was the Cherokee Nation capital and center of commerce before the emergence of Echota in Monroe County, Tennessee.”

The village features 19 wattle and daub structures, 14 interpretive stations and a detailed historic landscape on four acres of land adjacent to the Cherokee Heritage Center.

“Visitors can wit-

ness daily life as they are guided through the interpretive stations where crafts are demonstrated, stories are told and Cherokee way of life are explained,” Weavel said.

She said the village includes eight residential sites, each with a Cherokee summer house and winter house, a corn crib, a kitchen garden and additional landscaping. The public complex consists of the primary council house and summer council pavilion overlooking a large plaza that served as the center of community activity. In addition, two recreation areas featuring a marble field and stickball field showcase the Cherokee games that are still played today.

“The eight stations provide a look at daily life in the village,” Weavel said. “I would encourage individuals or groups to book early to visit the village.”

Weavel said Adams Corner, which depicts the 1890s Cherokee lifestyle, has interactive staff this season for the first time.

Weavel said in the main

building of the Cherokee Heritage Center the exhibit “Return from Exile” is on display until August. This traveling exhibit showcases the works of Southeastern artists, many of them Cherokee citizens.

“This exhibit is fabulous,” said Weavel. “It is worth a drive to Tahlequah to see,”

Weavel said the Cherokee Heritage Center has been the staple of Cherokee culture and history for more than 40 years.

“We have had many international visitors and the center has become a global destination for many,” Weavel said. “There is still a high interest in Cherokee culture and people. We are the site that shares this with the world.”

She said the community has embraced the Cherokee Heritage Center, and so many people have worked with the village, tours and the drama when it was open.

“Many people have spent their summers here and have spread the word about the Center and all that it has to offer,” Weavel said.

“T-Bucket” is almost entirely modifications. He said he and his wife, Jackie, built the car.

Tripp said he put a 327 Chevrolet engine in the Ford Model T body.

That ramped the horsepower from 20 to 490, Tripp said.

He added suspension, carburetors and side mufflers that weren’t even dreamed about in the 1920s. Yellow flames shoot across the maroon body.

“The only time we really cruise is down at Sonic on Saturday nights,” Tripp said. “Occasionally, we go down to the lake.”

Car owners like Tripp will be on hand to show off their cars Saturday at the car show.

Show coordinator Lila Bell said about 120 to 140 cars could be shown, weather permitting.

Souped up T-Buckets and smooth ‘70s Chevys are among the vehicles at the 18th annual Cruis’n Angel’s & BancFirst Car Show.

The show is Saturday at Phoenix Plaza, Second and Court streets.

Bell said participants welcome the move to the Phoenix Plaza parking lot.

“Most of the participants love the shade from the covered parking and the shade from the trees,” Bell said.

The top five entrants win a trophy and $100, she said.

Top three winners in each class get $100, $50 or $25.

Competition classes include 1900s, original and modified; 2000 and later, original and modified; Corvettes; trucks; motorcycles; convertibles and Rat Rods.

Bell said Rat Rods are like Mater, the junky truck from the “Cars” cartoon.

“They have old nostalgic stuff,” Bell said. “They’re not all classic and shiny cars. Sometimes they’re just an old farm truck.”

There also will be a specialty class, Bell said.

“One guy has a hearse in the special interest class,” she said.

People can register through noon Saturday.

Registration and sponsorship proceeds benefit the Good Shepherd Clinic.

Fox looks to sci-fi, fantasy this fall; MacFarlane in space

Clip of ‘The Orville’ shown to advertisers had distinct tongue-in-cheek ‘Galaxy Quest’ tone

NEW YORK (AP) — The Fox network is calling on superpowers and Seth MacFarlane to boost ratings this fall.

“The Orville,” a new space adventure starring and produced by MacFarlane, is set 400 years in the future and follows the adventures of an exploratory spaceship.

“This is Seth’s passion project,” Dana Walden, Fox Television Group chairman and CEO, said Monday in a teleconference detailing the 2017-18 schedule for the network that’s No. 4 among total viewers.

The multitalented MacFarlane, who contributes the animated comedy “Family Guy” to Fox, is a science buff who brought the documentary “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” to the network in 2014.

A clip of “The Orville” shown at Fox’s presentation to advertisers had a distinct tongue-in-cheek “Galaxy Quest” tone.

Also debuting this fall is “The Gifted,” about a suburban couple who discovers their children have mutant powers. Stephen Moyer (“True Blood”) and Amy Acker (“Person of Interest”) will star in the drama that Walden called “big, cinematic and commercial” and is Fox’s first with the Marvel factory.

Comedy will get the fantasy and sci-fi touch at Fox with “Ghosted.” The sitcom about two partners exploring unexplained phenomena in Los Angeles stars Craig

Freshman series set for Fox’s midseason: — “9-1-1,” described as a “fast-paced exploration” of the lives and careers of first responders including police, paramedics and firefighters.

Angela Bassett stars in the drama from prolific producer Ryan Murphy (“Feud”).

— “The Resident, a drama starring Matt Czuchry (“The Good Wife”) and Emily VanCamp (“Revenge”), will focus on three doctors and a nurse as it reveals “what really happens, both good and bad,” at American hospitals.

for another limited run if the producers are so inclined, she added.

KELLY’S RETURN

Megyn Kelly made her NBC debut Monday onstage at Radio City Music Hall, telling a crowd of advertisers at the network’s schedule presentation that she’ll debut her Sunday newsmagazine in June and start in the 9 a.m. hour of “Today” in September. There were no details from the former Fox News Channel star but, she said, “I’m psyched.”

IS THIS US?

Robinson of “The Office” and Adam Scott of “Parks and Recreation.”

Continuing the theme is “The X-Files,” the onetime Fox staple that will make its second appearance as an “event series” with a 10-episode midseason run starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Fox will have music as well, with returning series “Empire” and “Star” and the live musicals “Rent” and “A Christmas Story.”

But it won’t have “American Idol,” which ended its run on Fox in 2016 and is being revived next year by ABC. Walden said Fox was interested in bringing back the show in 2020 with changes for a new generation of viewers but couldn’t

reach an agreement with producer FremantleMedia.

“It feels bad knowing it’s coming back on another network,” she said. But Fox felt it would be “extremely fraudulent” recycling the show so soon after what was billed as its farewell season, and in light of how sharply its ratings had dropped from its once-stellar No. 1 position.

Walden and fellow Fox Television Group chair and CEO Gary Newman emphasized their effort to use established shows to support newer shows, such as the pairing of “Lucifer” and “The Gifted” on Monday and “Empire” and “Star” on Thursday.

“New Girl” is getting another season, its last,

but others that aren’t so lucky include canceled shows “Pitch,” ‘’Rosewood,” ‘’Scream Queens,” ‘’Sleepy Hollow,” ‘’Son of Zorn,” ‘’APB” and “Making History.”

Like NBC, which announced its fall schedule Sunday, Fox is holding back several new series for midseason. It’s another indication that the once entrenched September-to-May network schedule has given way to efforts to reduce repeats amid increased competition from cable and streaming. Other broadcast networks will present their upcoming program lineups to advertisers in New York this week.

— “LA to Vegas” from executive producers including Will Ferrell and Steve Levitan (“Modern Family”). Fox describes it as a workplace comedy about an airline crew and the “eccentric passengers” who fly to Las Vegas weekly in the hope of becoming winners. Dylan McDermott stars.

MAYBE, MAYBE NOT

Fox was happy with “24: Legacy,” the follow-up to its successful “24,” the executives said. With star Corey Hawkins on Broadway in “Six Degrees of Separation,” its return couldn’t be considered for fall but its future remains under discussion. “Prison Break: Resurrection” was intended as a special, one-season return and no more episodes are in the works, Walden said. But Fox “loved” what aired earlier this year and would consider it

NBC showed advertisers a tearjerker video of “This is Us” cast members surprising fans who testified on camera about how much the show meant to them. NBC was happy to boast about the success of its freshman season. In a standup routine, Seth Meyers noted the show hit a ratings milestone that NBC hadn’t seen in more than a decade.

“So maybe it should be ‘This is Unlike Us,’” Meyers joked.

ODD ONE OUT

As a veteran in the TV business, Matthew Perry knows how to read the tea leaves. On April 10, the actor noted on Twitter that his face on the stage door to CBS’ “The Odd Couple” had been painted over with green paint. “I think it’s safe to assume we have been cancelled,” he tweeted.

On Monday, his premonition came true.

Tulsa actress balances Hollywood, high school

Her latest movie, ‘Dig Two Graves’, is opening before she graduates Bishop Kelly High School

TULSA (AP) — Samantha Isler’s life is one of maintaining a balance in all things.

Learning about this young woman’s movie-making might make you think “high-profile and Hollywood” — but she’s all about low-profile and Tulsa.

Her latest movie, “Dig Two Graves,” is opening in theaters — a couple of weeks before she graduates from Bishop Kelley High School.

She’ll have another movie — appearing in the directing debut of Aaron Sorkin and playing a young version of Jessica Chastain’s character — that’s being pegged for awards-season this fall, at a time when she’ll be a freshman in college.

She’ll tell you that what she really enjoys is attending a game at her school or going out to eat with her family or walking around downtown Tulsa.

But attending the Cannes Film Festival in France or meeting Meryl Streep, well, those aren’t bad either.

“That was just so insane,” Isler said of her January evening at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where she and her co-stars were

nominated for “Outstanding Cast Performance” in the acclaimed “Captain Fantastic.”

In the film, she played one of six children being raised in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest by their father, played by Viggo Mortensen, who was nominated for a best-actor Oscar — and who served as photographer for her and Streep at the SAG event.

“That’s the best photo ever,” Isler told the Tulsa World (http://bit. ly/2psjHSw ). “I just honestly told her how much I loved her, and I started crying almost immediately.

“I was able to stop and have an actual conversation with her, and I told her that she’s my hero as an actress and in how she uses her platforms to stand up for what she believes in.”

But that’s one night in Hollywood, and Isler’s life is in Tulsa, where she treasures time with her family and friends and where she knows she made the right call to stay, rather than move to California for even more acting opportunities. Her performances, professionalism and a keen eye for choosing thought-provoking material have made it possible for opportunities to continue coming her way no matter where she lives.

“When I first started acting, I

didn’t expect anything, and I was discovered by a manager here in Oklahoma and started getting roles and auditions,” Isler said. “But I’m all about Tulsa because all my family is here and I genuinely love it here.

“I couldn’t imagine leaving for acting ... My family is my life, and education is an important part. It’s been the best decision I’ve made regarding my ideas about a career. I was born and raised here, and I have grandparents who moved here for me and my sister.”

Her roles, ranging from playing the daughter of Sean Hayes on a sitcom to a patient on “Grey’s Anatomy,” have given her a glimpse of other young actors who made the move to Hollywood.

“I meet aspiring actors, and I see how they have given up things like education, and I come home and it’s so nice being around all these really humble people who have dreams of being a doctor or a good soccer player and not worrying about how famous they are,” Isler said.

“Every day I know I made the right decision, coming back home to normal life.”

Her latest movie, “Dig Two Graves,” is being released four years after it was filmed and short-

ly after she had first made “Home Run,” a 2013 faith-based sports drama shot in Okmulgee when she was 14.

“It was kind of a crazy ride for (“Dig Two Graves”), and we thought it might not come out beyond some film festivals,” Isler said. “But then a distributor got involved, and it’s now in select theaters and on iTunes, and I’m really proud of that film.”

Her first starring role came in this supernatural suspense thriller in which a young girl is given a brutal choice that could result in bringing her brother back to life — if she will agree to someone else taking his place.

“I really enjoyed the character, Jake, because she’s a tomboy, and she’s strong-willed and fearless, and her priorities are very different than most 14-year-olds in movies these days,” Isler said.

“She’s dealing with loss, and with making a hard decision, and in films and TV shows too often a girl this age is complaining about school and guys and is very stereotypical.”

The role offered new challenges, like gutting a deer (“That wasn’t too bad at all”) and acting in a water tank for an underwater scene.

“That was one of the scariest

things I’ve done in my life, going 12 feet under, and strapped in with scuba experts with me, and then I hear ‘action’ and drop the breathing apparatus ... It was crazy and my mother was scared to death,” Isler recalled.

“That makes it hard to stay in character, but it all worked out.”

Most things are working out for Isler these days, and she’s making plans for a fun summer: traveling that includes rafting, hiking and going to the beach, taking in some concerts and just generally being in the outdoors.

But not before graduation, as well as talking to a Circle Cinema audience with her “Dig Two Graves” director in tow to answer questions about the film and about her acting experiences.

“I think it’s nice to be able to do this, to let people know about the movie,” Isler said. “I’ve done these and found it interesting how much people really do care about a movie and how much they want to know how we feel about the movie.

“I think that’s really nice, and, of course, it’s nice that I’ll probably have many friends and family in the theater.”

Because family, and Tulsa, are what really matter to this young talent.

‘Twin Peaks’ promises new mystery and fresh coffee

V ery simply put, welcome back to “Twin Peaks.”

The Pacific Northwest town known for slain beauty queens and mighty fine cups of Joe is open for business again, in television terms, after 26 years. Following some budget-related debate as to his involvement, series mentor David Lynch ultimately agreed to be all-in as director and (with fellow “Twin Peaks” creator and executive producer Mark Frost) co-writer of Showtime’s 18-part revival of the cult-classic mystery that begins Sunday, May 21.

Much of the principal cast of the original 199091 ABC show is back, too.

Kyle MacLachlan returns as FBI agent Dale Cooper, with Sheryl Lee, Madchen Amick, James Marshall,

Dana Ashbrook, Peggy Lipton, Wendy Robie, Ray Wise, Grace Zabriskie, Russ Tamblyn, Richard Beymer, Kimmy Robertson, Everett McGill and David Duchovny; with several co-stars who passed away after filming their scenes – Miguel Ferrer, Warren Frost and “Log Lady” Catherine E. Coulson –also appearing again. (The most prominent absentee is sheriff Harry S. Truman’s portrayer, Michael Ontkean, who retired from acting several years ago.)

Even composer Angelo Badalamenti is participating again, but for being an enduring phenomenon, the original “Twin Peaks” lasted only 30 episodes. “I see it as a film,” the notoriously secretive Lynch says, of what viewers should expect from the new version made again in part in Washington

State, “and a film in parts is what people (should) experience. It was a joyful, fantastic trip with this great crew and great cast. This word ‘expect’ is a magical word, and people expect things ... and their expectations are met, hopefully, when they see the thing.”

Among the notable actors joining “Twin Peaks” for its new run are Lynch-movie veterans Laura Dern, Naomi Watts and Robert Forster as well as Ashley Judd, Tim Roth, Amanda Seyfried, Jim Belushi, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Matthew Lillard, Ernie Hudson, Monica Bellucci, Richard Chamberlain and music’s Trent Reznor and Eddie Vedder. The casting also extends to such classic-TV faces as Lauren Tewes (“The Love Boat”)

and Grant Goodeve (“Eight Is Enough”).

Though the actors are restricted from giving much detail – actually, make that “virtually any detail” – on the plot of the revisited “Twin Peaks” or the development of their characters, MacLachlan reflects on the unique place Lynch has had in his career (also encompassing “Blue Velvet,” which starred Dern as well).

“We worked together the very first time on ‘Dune’ in 1983,” the actor recalls. “I had never been in front of a camera before. Fresh out of training school, I didn’t really know anything of film acting. And we just had a shorthand, for lack of a better word, in terms of when he wanted me to think of something or try something different or whatever.”

No matter how many other dating shows there have been, Andy Cohen deems this a perfect time for “Love Connection” to make a comeback.

The host of Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” among his many other ventures both behind and in front of the cameras, presides over Fox’s new version of the show –originally hosted in syndication by Chuck Woolery from 1983 to 1994 – starting Thursday, May 25. The update holds to the original premise of sending a man or woman on blind dates, then bringing the parties in to report to Cohen and a studio audience on how those encounters went.

“It’s about universal themes,” Cohen reflects, “attraction and first dates and human behavior and etiquette. Certainly, we talk about a lot of awkward situations that can happen. Some people wound up really connecting, and some people wound up really not being able to stand each other, and it’s really fun hearing the stories of their journeys.”

Reaffirming that “I love to ask awkward questions,” Cohen believes “Love Connection” is “the perfect fit for me. I was a big fan of the original, and I used to watch it growing up with my parents. That’s the other thing I love: I think this show will resonate with people of all ages, and Fox is really committed to diversity, so we’ve got gay couples and interracial couples. You’re going to see a little bit of everything.”

Cohen is taking “Watch What Happens Live” from its usual New York base to Los Angeles the same week “Love Connection”

premieres. He notes both shows suit his professional aims since moving from the programming side (he still executive-produces Bravo’s “Real Housewives” shows) to being an on-air personality.

“I love interviewing people,” he says. “I’m an author, I’m a latenight host, I host reunion shows and I have my (SiriusXM) radio channel, and this format is the one thing I’ve been wanting to do.”

Spend Memorial Day weekend with your grill and Food Network

With the holiday weekend just around the corner, many Americans will no doubt be firing up their grills for some serious duty over the three days. And Food Network has some suggestions on what to put on it.

Its two-day “Grilling/BBQ Weekend” kicks off the morning of Saturday, May 27, with so-themed episodes of “Pioneer Woman,” “The Kitchen” and “Valerie’s Home Cooking,” the last of which sees host Valerie Bertinelli engaging in “All Day Grilling” – starting with a breakfast of grilled French toast with apple berry compote and apple mascarpone cream.

That’s right, French toast on the grill.

“This all came about,” Bertinelli explains, “because my friends ... came over last summer and they grilled an entire breakfast on our grill. And it was so impressive I was like, ‘OK, that’s it. You have now challenged me ... to a grilling episode all day. And I want you to come over here and I am going to grill you breakfast, lunch and dinner.’ So I was coming up with all these different recipes and it’s just different ways that you can use your grill and not dirty your whole house.”

In addition to the French toast, the menu also consists of a lunch of a grilled shrimp and radicchio salad with honey balsamic vinaigrette, followed by a dinner of grilled lamb meatball flatbread with grilled tomato sauce, washed down with a grilled citrus spiked lemonade.

If you’re looking for something different to grill this holiday weekend, why not try lettuce? Bertinelli has long been a proponent of grilling the leafy greens but as with anything cooked over fire, there is a technique. The head should be cut in halves or quarters, seasoned and brushed or sprayed with oil (as should the grill surface). When done you shouldn’t be too hasty in pulling it off the grill, lest the leaves rip. And don’t be alarmed when the lettuce wilts. That, she says, is what should happen.

“Grilling for me is very close to roasting and I prefer all my vegetables roasted, so I think it’s a very similar

flavor,” she says. “It adds that smokiness and it brings out and intensifies the flavor of any of your vegetables, so that’s what I love about it. The radicchio, it kind of takes away a little bit of the bitterness but still keeps that enough so that it’s still flavorful. And the romaine, it just gives it even more flavor.”

What book are you currently reading?

“I’m currently reading ‘The Underground Railroad’ and it’s just brutal. It’s amazingly good and I have to put it down a lot because it’s just so brutal and so heartrending. ... I would suggest everybody read it so that you’re reminded of the cruelty and that we need to stop being so cruel to one another.”

Cazzie David, Larry’s 23-year-old daughter, proves she has a few of her dad’s comedy chops as creator and star of this series that follows the adventures of Remi, an anxiety-ridden, self-absorbed New York misanthrope who is overly concerned with her image on Instagram, Snapchat and other social media. Basically, she’s a female Larry David for the millennial generation.

The end of “Downton Abbey” likely upset its stars, but in one case, the actress in question became downright lethal.

Of course, that was only on film. Joanne Froggatt immediately followed her run as the globally popular drama’s Anna by playing a serial poisoner in Victorian England in “Dark Angel.” The true tale makes its “Masterpiece” debut as a single-episode offering of the PBS anthology Sunday, May 21 (check local listings).

During the mid-19th century, Mary Ann Cotton’s modus operandi was to serve tea laced with arsenic as her means for murder ... largely covered up by the similar symptoms that resulted from two raging illnesses of the era, cholera and typhoid fever. She sometimes took chances by taking out insurance policies on her targets, but her charm and magnetism succeeded, and would give her eventual notoriety as a female forerunner of Jack the Ripper.

Reteamed with “Downton Abbey” director Brian Percival on the project – which writer

Gwyneth Hughes (“The Girl”) developed from a book by criminologist David Wilson – Froggatt reflects, “People kept saying to me, what did I want to do after ‘Downton’?

I jokingly kept saying, ‘Oh, I don’t know. Something completely different. Play a murderer or something.’

“And then this script came along, and I thought, ‘I’ve got to put my money where my mouth is, because someone has just handed it to me on a plate.’ So, it was an easy decision to make in terms of what I wanted to do as an actress.”

Working with co-stars including Alun Armstrong and Laura Morgan, Froggatt dove immediately into grasping Cotton’s psyche: “I wanted to know what happened to her. She starts out as a normal workingclass woman of that time period, and she suffered the loss of four of her children through natural causes. She has just come home with her husband at the start of the story to try and make a fresh start, and find some security back in her family home, in

her village where she grew up. Things sort of escalate from there, really. She loses another child. They have to move so her husband can find work, and he loses his job because of an injury. He can’t afford to feed the family, and her story starts off as a story of desperation.”

Stressing that she isn’t trying to justify Cotton’s eventually deadly actions, Froggatt explains that the woman “spiraled into a darker and darker place, a place of deeper mental-health issues.

“I did a lot of research on her. I read the book by David Wilson that we referenced for the project, and I also read quite a lot about the differences between female serial killers and male serial killers. It was very strange reading on the train; I always got really strange looks from people. And then, I looked at some newspaper articles and reminded myself of the era, where we were socially and where we were as females in that time period and that social setting. It was a really fascinating story to try and portray.”

“Becoming Bond,” www.hulu.com/becoming-bond

This documentary/docudrama hybrid that debuted at the South by Southwest Film Festival in March tells the story of George Lazenby, the Australian auto mechanic who with no acting experience landed the role of James Bond for a single film, 1969’s “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” Lazenby himself appears in interviews with actors including Jeff Garlin and Jake Johnson taking on various roles in re-enactments.

Garcia seeks third AT&T Byron Nelson title

Riding high on the heels of winning his first Major PGA event, Sergio Garcia is poised for a repeat performance at the AT&T Byron Nelson, which culminates Sunday, May 21 on CBS. Garcia, of course, joined a rather elite fraternity of his peers by donning the coveted green jacket after his Masters Tournament victory a month ago.

He’s not only defending last year’s title at the Byron Nelson, he’s also the 2008 recipient of the Byron Nelson award, given to the golfer with the lowest average through 50 rounds. The Masters victory was his tenth PGA Tour win over a career that includes several close calls at other Majors. Garcia has finished tied for second twice each at The Open Championship (2007, 2014) and the PGA Championship (1999, 2008). He also finished tied for third at the U.S. Open in 2005. Saying he was due to win a Major may be an understatement.

Garcia has been consistent throughout his career, but has more PGA Tour wins early on than in recent years. His success on the European PGA Tour has been just the opposite, with some wins as of late. He’s also had success on the Asian Tour and has been a regular participant with the European team in the Ryder Cup. Last year was not his first win at the Byron Nelson either; he also won here in 2004 and thus is among only a handful of multiple winners of this event. A third time would certainly be a charm.

The Blacklist

The drama’s fourth-season finale, “Mr. Kaplan,” expectedly centers largely on recurring cast member Susan Blommaert’s character — whose use of an extremely experienced thief (guest star Aldis Hodge, “Underground”) attracts the attention of Red (James Spader), who’s trying to protect his network of criminal contacts. The task force faces danger when Gale (Enrique Murciano) breaks protocol. The conclusion of the story follows immediately. Megan Boone also stars

American Masters

Starting what this series is calling a “Chefs Flight” of biographies of cuisine legends, the new documentary “James Beard: America’s First Foodie” recalls the late Oregon native who earned the designation “Dean of American Cookery.” An early proponent of the farm-to-table concept, Beard was an author and columnist as well as television’s first major cooking-show host. Martha Stewart, Ted Allen and Wolfgang

Puck are among those who discuss his influence.

SATURDAY

7 p.m. on HBO Movie: The Wizard of Lies

ABC got there first with its two-night 2016 TV movie “Madoff,” starring Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss as corrupt financier Bernie Madoff, but this new HBO chronicle of the Ponzi scheme that shook the world has its own rewards and a different Oscar champ in the central role: Robert De Niro, also an executive producer on the film. Michelle Pfeiffer plays Bernie’s innocent wife, Ruth, in a cast that also includes Alessandro Nivola, Hank Azaria, Lily Rabe and Kristen Connolly. Barry Levinson directs.

2017 Billboard Music Awards

Many top artists again take the stage — as performers, presenters or both — as the annual ceremony is presented from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. One star who’s been a staple of that city for a number of years through her “residency” show, Celine Dion, is slated to perform. So are Bruno Mars, Camila Cabello, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Florida Georgia Line, Imagine Dragons, John Legend, Lorde and Nicki Minaj. Cher performs and also receives the Icon Award.

The Bachelorette

Even before Nick Viall withheld the rose that sent her packing from the most recent edition of “The Bachelor,” it was known that Rachel Lindsay would do the choosing in the 13th round of this series — and her turn in the driver’s seat begins here. This time, a more-than-everbefore 31 bachelors are in the initial field to try to win this bachelorette’s heart ... and the tears may not flow

yet, but just wait. Chris Harrison has his traditional role as host.

TUESDAY

9 p.m. on KOED Frontline

This series has done several examinations of Donald Trump’s ascent to the American presidency, and the new episode “Bannon’s War” approaches the subject from a different angle — that of his chief strategist Stephen Bannon, who has courted controversy before and since being appointed to the post. Formerly a major player behind Breitbart News, he also has been a filmmaker and an advocate for positions that have earned him criticism from certain groups.

WEDNESDAY

7 p.m. on KOTV Survivor

The “Game Changers” edition of the competition certainly has lived up to that title, with some developments making headlines — but the group of returning players knows every season of the game must end, as do the series’ fans, and the two-hour season finale arrives here. One of the remaining contestants will outwit, outplay and outlast the others and win the $1 million grand prize. Immediately afterward, Jeff Probst holds to tradition by hosting a reunion special.

SIX ‘BREAKING BAD’ REMINDERS OF SAUL GOODMAN’S CRIMINAL FUTURE

As we continue to watch Jimmy McGill’s world unfold on Season 3 of “Better Call Saul,” airing Mondays on AMC, it’s hard not to reflect on the criminal lawyer alterego that Walt (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse (Aaron Paul) ended up partnering with in “Breaking Bad,” Saul Goodman.

The spinoff’s proven enlightening and portentous, as we’ve watched Jimmy’s backstory unfold: his “Breaking Bad” descent into the criminal underworld is coming ... but we’re not quite there yet.

From Jimmy to Saul to Gene (his future Cinnabon general manager persona), this journey still has a slew of ups and downs coming. Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Here are six “Breaking Bad” reminders of Jimmy McGill’s criminal fate.

“Better Call Saul” (Season 2, Episode 8)

Saul’s crimes: Stalking & criminal conspiracy

Bob Odenkirk’s iconic character first entered the “Breaking Bad” story in Season 2. Once Jesse’s associate Badger gets arrested for dealing Walt’s blue meth, Saul Goodman comes to the young man’s rescue.

By the episode’s end, Badger’s DEA problem goes away – Saul sets up a patsy to take the fall as Heisenberg, putting Walt and Jesse in the clear. Goodman then coerces the two to hire him as their lawyer, guaranteeing him a cut in their meth-cooking business.

“Mandala” (Season 2, Episode 11)

Saul’s crimes: Incitement, money laundering & criminal conspiracy

“Mandala” finds Saul hooking Walt and Jesse up with a “cautious, low-profile” businessman interested in buying a large amount of their product. “You’re sitting on a gold mine,” Saul tells the two in reference to their 38 pounds of blue meth.

And that mysterious investor? Gustavo Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) eventually comes into view – setting the events in motion that will ultimately lead to the crumbling of Walt’s drug empire.

“Phoenix” (Season 2, Episode 12)

Saul’s crimes: Money laundering & criminal conspiracy

“Phoenix” finds Goodman using an unexpected avenue to launder Walt and Jesse’s copious amounts of cash: Walt Jr.’s (R.J. Mitte) website, SaveWalterWhite.com, originally created to raise money for Walter’s cancer treatment. Saul’s plan works, and the crew disguise their drug money as thoughtful donations to the cause.

Later in the episode, Jesse’s girlfriend Jane dies of a heroin overdose – right in front of Walt – which leads Saul’s fixer Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) to enter the story in the following episode, “ABQ.”

“Caballo Sin Nombre” (Season 3, Episode 2)

Crimes: Incitement, real estate fraud, extortion, blackmail, illegal surveillance, stalking & criminal conspiracy

If ever there’s an episode of “Breaking Bad” that perfectly showcases Saul Goodman’s versatility, it’s “Caballo Sin Nombre.” After Walt’s divorce, Goodman pounces on the opportunity to talk the man into cooking meth again. He also comes to Jesse’s rescue, purchasing the Pinkmans’ house at half its selling price – identifying the building’s former meth lab as a negative mark against the property’s value.

Adding insult to injury, Saul sends Mike to bug the White household – adding illegal surveillance to his growing list of skills.

“Sunset” (Season 3, Episode 6)

Crimes: Impersonating a police officer, falsely reporting an accident & criminal conspiracy

In “Sunset,” Walt’s DEA agent brother-in-law Hank (Dean Norris) tracks Jesse back to the duo’s RV meth lab – and unbeknownst to Hank, Walt is right on the other side of the door.

With nowhere else to turn, Mr. White makes a frantic call to Saul for help – prompting Goodman’s secretary to pose as a police officer in a phone call to Hank. Thinking his wife Marie (Betsy Brandt) suffered a car accident, Hank quickly leaves the scene.

“Granite State” (Season 5, Episode 15)

Saul’s crimes: Criminal conspiracy

Saul Goodman makes one final appearance in “Breaking Bad” – in the penultimate episode, “Granite State.” It’s here that we see a bit of Jimmy McGill seep through the criminal lawyer’s manipulative exterior.

Waiting for relocation and a new “low profile” identity, Goodman tells Walt their partnership is over. The character’s final scene paves the way for Saul Goodman’s transformation into Gene, mild-mannered manager of a Cinnabon store – presumably located somewhere in Nebraska.
